The Source of Spree Compulsion Work

HELLO! Oh my goddess. So much information in the first episode alone. And in the clips and trailers. Where even to begin!

I think the thing that stuck out the most for me during our RI rewatch was Tally’s lucid dream at the end and what it provides for a) the military history of this timeline and b) the source of the Spree’s compulsion magic. Disclaimer; I am certain these thoughts have been chatted about here on Tumblr, Twitter, and Discord. I apologize if I do not properly credit people but with so many convos going around, things have been swept up in the storm. But I wanted to highlight some thoughts to share with the world. So these are my interpretations but shoutout to those who have made these associations before me, I always encourage people to write their thoughts and share them with all of us. (And feel free to @ me or send any my way so I know of them please!).

Specifically, though not yet mentioned in the show, Eliot reveals in interviews that the flashback is from a “dirty colonial war” about 25 years prior to when the show takes place. So… this would then be during the Proxy wars (ongoing) but before the rise of the Spree. So are colonial wars “Proxy wars”? Is it a resistance to previously sovereign people to being conscripts if America colonizes, forced into service? Keep notepads out, ears and eyes ready.

Next, and perhaps the most important: The contained compulsion sound work of the Spree was/is Military canon.

In the flashback we see Alder, biddies, and Co. getting attacked by giant insects, controlled by the colonials.

apologies for the horrible quality. iTunes gimme my HD when? (still won’t let me buy my season pass). They’re helpless against them until a soldier smashes a bottle which releases work that causes the colonials to stop controlling the insects and start attacking themselves. It’s the exact same effect the Spree attacks had on civilians.

Now, military canon had to come from somewhere. It is entirely possible that the Spree learned this work from the same source the Military learned it from, or, a different source. BUT this flashback makes it seem as though Eliot is hinting that this work more likely came from a Military deserter as witches (in America at least) only learn military canon work AFTER they take the oath. Military canon is kept under lock and key otherwise.

I think of this scene and flashback as a: Alder is Dumbledore looking through his memories in the pensive for clues about horcruxes sort of deal. She’s searching her memories for the leak. The source of the Spree to try and route it out from the inside. 25 years ago… that may be too early to be Willa (though we don’t know her exact age). Is it someone else? Are they still in the military?

Petra as head of intelligence may just, well, have access to intelligence collected by spies, but it definitely seemed like a perfect coincidence that she found out about the Belgium attack by the Camarilla EXACTLY at the same time Willa reveals this to Scylla.

Now... this was BEFORE Anacostia cast the Fetch to creep on Scylla and Willa... A favorite theory floating around since last season? Since Petra was Willa’s CO on her last drop... did she help Willa defect? Did Petra help Willa fake her death so she could become a Spree operative behind Alder’s back? Perhaps Petra was behind the leak of the Military canon magic to the Spree and Alder is searching through her memories to make the connection? What do you guys think?

Tbh, sometimes I think about "Who is the real Identity V mascot ?" Most peeps will answer with "It's Emma" but I will answer with "It's that fuckingly handsome seer named Eli Clark"

Why you ask ? Because I'm tired of buying so many merch of him aka the birbboi aka Eli fucking Clark 😭😭😭 This is the struggle of being an Eli Clark's simp 😭

Like for real. This year, he had so fucking many merchandise (not to mention his Conan crossover skins and his new other skins). Why not somebody else ? WHY NOT EMMA ?! SHE'S THE MASCOT OF IDV ! Tbh not just Eli, but everyone from team ANNE aka Aesop, Naib, Norton, and Eli or team VALE aka Victor, Andrew, Luca, and Edgar is the one who always getting so many new merchandises. From cafe's collab to limited series. My question is, why it's always those guys ? :'D Just because they superly attractive doesn't mean that the other are not 'buyable' (also we (ANNE and VALE simps) need rest for wasting money for our so-much-attractive-man main)

Ahhhh thank you so much!

The two apps I use are vapoursynth to cut and resize and photoshop cc 2017! So I am going to break down some of my tips and where you can learn more. There are many ways to make your gifs hd, this is just one of many and how I like to do it.

Sourcing Videos

So finding a high quality video for your gif is half the work. In terms of live performance gifs like my Megan thee Stallion set or a Kpop live set, I will go for a .ts file which pulls directly from the broadcast. Usually if I am making a larger gif that;s 540px, I try to stick with 1080 and above. If I am making 268px gifs I can do 720, maybe a 480.

For western media, particularly performances and stuff, I go use ncurban or sharemania (you can create a free account i use a burner email). For korean media, reference this masterlist resource, its a fantastic overview even if you aren’t a kpop fan that goes into other videosourcing tips. and I use dramaday to download my kdramas and youtube for cdramas.

VapourSynth

I use Vapoursynth, which helps clip and resize my clips without losing a lot of quality. If you have an older laptop without much ram, it can take a long time.

Tutorial on How to use Vapoursynth to Make Gifs

Tips: I just use the KNMCL and Finesharp functions to sharpen and denoise, and the trick is to adjust based on the file you have. I usually preview and mess with the setting until I get it to where I like it.

Also don’t use vapoursynth with large .mkv files, you can convert it to .mp4 which is friendlier with VS using Avidemux and the tutorial for that is here. It’s simple and doesn’t take too long.

Photoshop 2017

There are versions you can download out there. I used this one.

Really here, there isn’t much I do outside of coloring and editing if I’m making more of a gfx.

Other Resources/Tips

There was a challenge some other friends and I participated in around showing our gifmaking process and there are some videos of our processes you can find and learn from here(dingyuxi), here(seongwu), here(joonie) here(gimme-a-chocolate), and here(mine). You can slow them down since they’re sped up versions.

My tag content creation will have basically resources, templates, and tutorials. Resources like @itsphotoshop or @completeresources all have some great tutorials that I use all the time, not just for gifmaking but other things too.

This is all just technical info but really, like any other discipline or practice or skill, practice at it and dont expect your first time to be the best because you’re always going to improve and learn. I’m always open as a resource and there are some great content creators on here who share their knowledge as well. I learned a lot from creators and friends on here like @joonie, @lavenderbyun @nthonystark @seongwu and many others, so if you can find a community or a group of friends, that is so helpful.

QUESTION OF THE DAY #12: What is your opinion on theatre bootlegs? Spill as much or as little tea as you want.

MY ANSWER: it would be incredibly hypocritical of me to say there’s nothing good about them. i discovered a couple of my all time favorite shows through bootlegs, and when i was a high school/college-aged theatre nerd stuck in the midwest (which i still am, just a bit older now), they brought me a lot of comfort that i could relive my favorite shows again. that said, i can understand POVs re: they weren’t filmed with consent from the actors. however, actors who are speaking out against them need to realize that mainstream theatre needs to be made more accessible in one way or another for poor, disabled, and international theatre fans. tldr: bootlegs aren’t going to go away if celebrities disavow them, but theatre might be able to become more accessible if more of them talk on THAT instead of how evil bootlegs are.

SUMMARY OF ANSWERS: out of 41 responses: 21 were an enthusiastic heck yeah, 13 weren’t as enthusiastic but still along the lines of yeah i support them, 3 answers were like eh i can see both sides i guess/leaning towards no, and 4 people outright said nah bootlegs are not the answer. It's essentially documenting theatre, and ensuring generations to come will be able to experience what could have been so fleeting. They maintain a community, and as long as NFT dates, masters, and general spread of bootlegs are respected then there really can be no problem. It's just a way to immortalize the art!

Because artists deserve to be paid for their work, and there are a whole host of copywriter issues that come with the mass production of a show. In addition though, I understand the anger you feel at not getting to see a show live, however there are so many resources available to help people get the idea of their favorite show even if they never see it. Honestly Wikipedia is my favorite resource, as often that has a full synopsis of the show. I’ll read that and then listen to the recording a bunch so I can understand the story and imagine what it may look like. A lot of shows put clips on YouTube, the Macy’s parade, the Tony Awards, NBC does a whole broadway week, there are so many ways that you can get glimpses into these shows without resorting to bootlegs (which at this point are still illegal) I’m not a supporter of the “theater must be seen live” idea. While I LOVE live theater (and as a performer I like feeding off an audience) but I’ve see shows with just proshots or just the movie version and they are still just as good. Unfortunately I think the only way we’re are going to make theater more accessible to audiences is through time. Bootlegs I think only make people less inclined to record shows and mass produce them. There are a whole lot of legal things that go into that as well. What I can say is what I’ve done. Read up on the show, watch all the clips you can, sometimes scripts are posted online maybe read those, listen to the album, look at pictures. It SUCKS that theater is exclusive, but bootlegs are not the solution.

Well I’m finally moving up in the world. Just received Steven Slate Drums Platinum a few days ago and I’ve barely left the studio since. Man, what a difference it makes in the sound quality! But, in order to use it, I needed a new DAW… So Reaper was the winner! Two new pieces of software to learn, so I’ve been messing around with them all day. My first project using the two is shown here. It’s pretty rough… gimme a break, this is my first go with it. More to come!

How did we get here? Who knows? Honestly, what we should focus on is not how we got here, but instead, what we will do with the time we are given.
