Earlier today I was watching another video about basic training, and they mentioned that the reason why they shave all the recruits' heads is to remove their individuality. This is supposed to help unify them into a unit.
It got me thinking about how Repliforce would go about making all their soldiers more uniform. Unlike humans, reploids can come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes, which complicates things. First you have your humanoids. Some seem to conform more to X's template, but then you've got Humanoids who are skinny, fat, short, or REALLY tall (like Colonel). However, it's still very feasible to tailor a uniform for a humanoid (unless they're a rare case where their armor is fused to their body). However, some reploids take up more or less space than others, which could disrupt a typical marching formation.
Animaloids deviate the most from X's template, and can have very unusually-shaped endoskeletons. Their armor is also usually not supposed to come off, and sometimes trying to fit them into a uniform can mess with their design. According to what I've seen in canon though, it seems like the most Repliforce does is give them a hat and engrave their emblem somewhere on their body.
There's also another type of reploid, but you usually only see them as people's OCs in the fandom. They have a mix of humanoid and animaloid characteristics. You could probably fit most of them into a uniform so long as their endoskeleton isn't too unusual. Still, they really stick out in a group of either humanoids or animaloids.
I think that the solution to this problem would be to group these more unconventional reploids into their own units. Like... you'd have your usual male/female-only units, but you'd also have things like animaloid-only units, or Extra-Large or Extra-Small units. I think that ideally you'd want to be able to make a unit of only one 'species' of animaloid, but getting that many of a specific kind to sign up doesn't seem likely. (Good luck getting an Anteater-only unit...) On top of that, the people who design animaloids can all have wildly different interpretations of the same creature, so even that doesn't really fix the issue.
...Eh, I'm sure Repliforce has figured something out. 🤷‍♀️
I also just realized... since female reploids can't get pregnant and can easily be upgraded to be just as strong as males, it might actually be possible to make a mixed-gender unit work. Still... I'm not 100% sure that's a good idea. There could be other factors I haven't considered, so I'll think on it for a while.

Find the Word Tag!
I was tagged by @eccaiia and @aohendo with the words surprise, compete, value, coffee, curl, cold, bright, clean, sell, and reach
surprise (life friends & friendship ends) (this part is actually still basically canon)
"Rakad confessed," Lathaz says. "What?" I yell, surprised by the volume, "I'll talk to him, there must be a mistake, I'll figure this out. Where is he?" "He's in prison. In the diplomat's cell“
compete (life friends & friendship ends)
"Wait, how does it work that we're the Oranth team, anyway? We're all pretty much exiled from Oranth," I say. "No-one in Oranth would compete in that stupid tournament, and since Rikan controls Oranth, everyone in Oranth is a Rikanian citizan, so citizanship isn't a good measure. Since we were born in Oranth that counts as good enough" Edur says.
value(able) (life friends & friendship ends)
I walk to my room, put on the outfit. It's as complicated to put on as possible, while still allowing great movement when I'm wearing it. It is so fancy though, the entire coat is a rich blue, which according to Lirok is the hardest dye to get, and most valuable. Even the undershirt manages to be fancy, with a fancy pattern. It's going to be hidden by my coat.
coffee
not found. in the excerpt for "compete," Edur calls the country Rikan, while I usually call it Rakan. this is because Rakan's language is weird and vowels are more for like connotation? Edur is basically saying he thinks of Rakan as unimportant, or small by using the "i" instead of the nuetral "a"
curl(y) (Dragonless)
 “Curly hair has something to do with Radno luck, right?” Rina asked. “Yes, it shows exaggerated, um, chance. With my hair this curly I have ten percent exaggerated chance. I also have like thirty percent bad luck so it is not a good combination. That is a good part of why I’m scared for dragonriding class. I’m surprised you knew about that - Rina, right? - most people here know about Radno luck, but don’t know the hair thing.” “I’m studying the weird magics, trying to make a unifying theory. What were the ten percent and thirty percent things you talked about?” she asked. “Those were rough numbers, ten percent means only around ten percent of people with Radno luck have luck as wild as mine or wilder. One hundred percent chance would mean your chance is more consistent than everyone else, and zero percent is wilder luck than anyone else. For luck one hundred is the most lucky, with zero the least. I got tested because my mom was worried with my curly hair, and had like eight percent chance and thirty-two percent luck.”
bright
not found. in the above excerpt, they talk about curly hair and luck. but, the other axis (lucky-unlucky) has to do with hair being bioluminescent (lucky) or photosynthetic (unlucky). either way, it deals with magic energy, either turning magic energy to light or the other way around.
clean (some short story i tried to write)
The bell rings, finally I can be done with that stupid discussion. I run home, jumping on tree stumps and boulders from the glaciars. I jump over the fence into our yard. The house is covered with debris. I sneak through the back door so my mom doesn’t notice me. “Oh, hi Threna,” Gerald, my cousin says. “Aunt Hellen says it’s your turn to clean up. This stuff’s from Florida, I saw a sign.”
sell (life friends & friendship ends)
I stand at the pile of embroidered coats, looking at the one I embroidered with huge jackalope antlers. Mom told me it wouldn't sell. I thought if it did, it would cement my brand, but that doesn't matter anymore. If I hadn't wasted that coat. It was a cheap coat, though.
reach (The Search for Ezra)
“Oh, you’re an Imperial?” Sabine says, I nod and she continues,  “I have bad news for you. The Empire’s collapsed.” I drop the datastick. “Collapsed? How? The Empire was the most powerful government ever to be in the galaxy. They even reached out to wild space.”
I'll tag @rainstorminsilver @randis-ramblings @kyofsonder @houndsofcorduff @junypr-camus and an Open Tag!
with the words: write, wrong, wrestle, wrist, and wrap

I’m remembering that you like NDRV3 now, which assumably means you also like DR in general??? Hence what I like to refer to as- The Three Hopes AU! Because I don’t have a better name, and we were shafted when they didn’t let Kaede be a protagonist and get called a symbol of Hope (yes I’m still bitter). Also this gets kinda dark- Which is fair, I think, it’s DR- But it’s probably coming dangerously close to that Yandere Mariharem AU of yours.
So! Here, the casts of DR1, SDR2, and NDRV3 are combined in one Killing Game, turning them into a 48 person group and therefore upping the amount of killings in that timespan- Assumably, the NDRV3 group becomes another class that attends Hope’s Peak. Like in canon, however, everyone has their memories wiped, so they don’t actually remember being classmates or friends.
Since so many people are participating in the Killing Game, there are some modified rules and patterns- There are more trials (anywhere from 9 to 15, depending on how you’d like to play things), and the number of survivors would also escalate, though it still feels like very few in comparison to how many people started (again, anywhere from 9 to 15, probably- They’re solid numbers, I can’t help it).
Also as a result of so many people, three groups end up forming- Initially, they were formed before the Killing Game was announced, and each faction would be headed by one of the protagonists (Makoto, Hajime, and Kaede). There’d be sixteen people per group, just to keep it even, and different people from each class would be in different groups. I’m still torn on why the factions would form, though- Either they’re formed by the students themselves, just to keep track of everyone, and Monokuma just rolls with it, or maybe the Mastermind splits them up? Either way, it’s against the rules to attack people in your faction, because that just seems like something Monokuma would do to get more despair.
Here’s where it gets... Darker. See, I feel like the large groups, and the splits, when combined with the isolation and the motives and the fact that some of the people there aren’t exactly stable, would... Ah. Become a bit fanatical, when it comes to what they might come to see as a figurehead for their group. It isn’t an immediate things, to be clear- It’s brought about through a lot of stress and desperation and the need to cling to something, more than anything.
Which. Basically makes Kaede, Hajime, and Makoto the targets of a bunch of platonic and/or romantic yanderes, I suppose- Depending on what you ship, or just what you think is interesting. Whoops? Either way, Monokuma isn’t above using them for motives (IE- Someone kill someone else or your leaders will all die).
Moving on, though- Here’s what I have for the factions so far! I have reasons for each person, if you’re interested, though a lot of them I haven’t sorted yet.

... This got long. I am so, so sorry- Super interested in hearing your opinion, though, so I couldn’t help it. Thanks for responding, if you decide to!!!
This sounds like a really cool idea. We love the yanderes and dark here!
The first thing that kinda worries me is the large cast. This is 48 characters to develop and, with three protagonists, you’d be constantly be switching between point’s of view. Of course, protagonists don’t have to be the same as point of view characters, so you could switch the PoV each chapter? Just to give each character some screen time.
I’m curious about why factions exist rather than how they’re formed. It’s really weird that there are three separate leaders when everyone should be unified by the goal of escaping. Perhaps the mastermind chose them? Maybe only the group leaders can officially vote at trials; like, the group will decide who they want to vote for and the leader is supposed to choose what the majority wants?
(I think the game Zero Time Dilemma does something similar to this? Three groups that have a leader and the leader needs to choose to kill another team or not).
How long a would this killing game last? assuming there’s a trial every 5 days, that’s 45 to 75 days!
What’s the motive behind the killing game? is it the same as DR1, where someone just wants the world to witness Hope’s Peak suffer?
Team opinion time:
A bit curious who the mastermind is if Junko is on Makoto’s team.
I was a bit confused as to why you put Komaeda on Kaede’s team, but thinking about it, it makes sense. She is the only protag with a real talent after all, since Hajime doesn’t know his.
Put Byakuya on either Kaede or Hajime’s team--he’s the type to try and overthrow the leader, and those too would actually stand up against Togami (which would make for a great “falling into yandere” moment for him).
Assuming members choose their teams,  Fuyuhiko could go to Kaede’s team bc she looks kinda like his sister and that makes him want to protect her.
You could do a star crossed lovers thing, where two members of a canon-ish couple are on two different teams. This forces them to confront the feelings they have for their partner and their leader.
Mikan should be on Makoto’s team. He’s really nice and caring, which would bring out her obsessiveness quickly.
***************
Anyway, this sounds really cool! Tag me when you write it? ;)

WIP Wednesday-Vampire Knight
I wrote on this quite sometime ago, was cruising my files and stumbled across it. Read through it, tweaked it, started writing on it again but got distracted because I’m a Gemini with the attention span of a peanut. My favorite characters in Vampire Knight are Kaien Cross and Takuma Ichijo. No idea why. Just the way it is. This is a Kaien Cross story. Massive liberties taken with creator’s world and backstories, I’m sure, but I’ve done a little bit of tweaking here and there to make it a bit more ‘canon-compliant’. The title is The Vampire Without Fangs and it’s an origin story essentially. It’s set during the series arc (sort of) but this snippet is from Kaien’s past (totally made up). It is slash with an original character, mainly because shipping him with anyone else is weird? He’s as old as some vampires so everyone’s a child to him. This is actually from mid-way in the story thus far and from Kaien’s vampire lover’s point of view.
Autumn leaves swirled through the trees as Reya watched with no little interest the sandy-haired hunter worked his way through the undergrowth with surprising agility. There was something otherworldly about this one, like a human child trying to play grown-up games. The hunter silently pulled the razor-sharp long sword from its scabbard, the metal gleaming in the dull light filtering through the tree branches.
Reya longed to tell the hunter he was wasting his time. Most of the little pack of Level E vampires were dead at Reya’s own hand, or rather fang. He’d been hungrier than usual for some reason. However, Reya had no intention of garnering the attention of the Hunter Association. The fewer people who knew of a progenitor’s existence, the better off said progenitor would be.
Also less harassed by the so-called Vampire Senate and their Kuran puppet ruler.
There was a growling hiss, fallen twigs and leaves rustled with quick movements and Reya noted that the hunter disposed of one vampire already. Sand fell to the ground.
“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,” whispered the hunter with no emotion.
Reya’s interest was further peaked. It was a strange thing to say. He watched the hunter kill the remaining two vampires in quick succession, repeating the same mantra as their dusty remains settled to the earth.
“You can come down, vampire, I know you’re up there,” called the hunter, turning in Reya’s direction and looking up right where he sat crouched on a tree limb.
“Impressive instincts, hunter,” approved Reya, leaping from his perch and landing expertly on his feet. He bowed formally, politely. “I am Reya and –“
“I don’t care. Fight or die or stand there and die. Either way, die.” The hunter rushed forward, sword raised and Reya nimbly dodged away. The hunter froze for half a heartbeat and then lowered his sword. “You are not one of them.”
Reya smiled. “Indeed, no. In fact, I just finished consuming my fill on them when you arrived.”
The hunter looked around with a frown. “I thought there should have been more,” he noted, as if interested despite himself.
He looked at Reya squarely and the vampire felt as if someone punched him in the gut.
The hunter was more than handsome, he was exquisite. Pain and loneliness shone from within, his brown eyes more golden than earthy and his features were fine and aristocratic in make. Sandy brown hair pulled back in a queue was tugged by the slight breeze. His long body and delicate-looking stature was misleading of his actual strength. If he’d been female, the term ‘elfin’ might have been applied to him.
The sword raised once more and Reya was brought from his reverie. “And it’s the hunters’ job to hunt vampires, not yours.”
“There was no hunt with these fools,” scoffed Reya, flicking a dismissive hand at the sandy remains scattered here and there. “I was hungry and I needed to eat. I frown on consuming the local human populace. That leaves rats or vampires. I assure you, vampires are less trouble than catching a rat. They taste better as well.”
The hunter’s confusion increased, if his furrowed brow was any indication.
Reya stepped forward, bypassing the sword point and grasped the hunter’s other wrist gently, bowing over the man’s hand in gentlemanly fashion as if he were a courtier and the hunter a fine lady. “Might I have the pleasure of your name, hunter?”
The hunter became flustered and drew away nervously. “Kaien Cross.”
Reya gave a start and then chuckled. “One of the famous Cross clan hunters! I have not met one of your bloodline in many generations.”
Cross’ features darkened. “You won’t meet another ever again,” he stated grimly. “I am the last and it will stay that way.”
There was bitterness there but something else nudged at the vampire, something that Reya couldn’t quite put his finger on. He dismissed the feeling for a moment and surveyed his wary companion. “I mean you no harm, you have my assurances.”
There was a distant roll of thunder but no clouds lined the sky.
“I see the battle has recommenced.” Cross sheathed his sword and nodded brusquely to Reya. “If you will excuse me, I have to return to my post.”
“Who are the French shelling now?” Reya asked with a frown.
“It’s mutual shelling,” the hunter told him grimly. “The Austrians aren’t giving up without a fight.” Cross looked at his vampire companion. “Do you not know where you are?” he asked incredulously.
“A mountain looks like a mountain, a river looks like a river and a sheep meadow looks like a sheep meadow,” philosophized Reya with a negligent shrug. “After thousands of years, one area looks the same as any other and the political borders of countries shift enough that it matters little.”
Cross waved a hand in the direction of continued cannon bombardment. “Austerlitz will fall soon and Empereur Napoleon will only have the British and Russians to worry about before unifying Europe under his command.”
Reya snorted derisively. “I wish the little general the best of luck. He is going to need it. Even the might of Rome failed and Julius Caesar, I assure you, was taller, prettier and more charismatic than Bonaparte shall ever dream of being.”
Cross’ honey-colored eyes narrowed in disapproval. His back stiffened and his lips thinned. Obviously he disagreed with Reya’s assessment of Napoleon’s skills and odds of success. “Vive l’Empereur,” he murmured stubbornly.
“I prefer Viva Espana but it is probably a touchy subject. Hunter Kaien Cross, until we meet again.” Reya bowed formally to his companion one more time. “And I assure you, we will meet again, I shall make certain of it.”
Cross scowled at him and shook his head. “It will be a battle to the death then.”
Reya looked amused. “Will it? I would prefer a battle of another sort but if not, that is a battle I would like to-“
There was shouting in French and German, followed by a close barrage of musket fire nearly drowning out agonized screams.
“Damn!” growled Cross and he put his sword at the ready.
“Fool, sharp as it is, it will do you little good against a musket ball,” snapped Reya and jerked Kaien to him before leaping into the air and into the highest tree top.
The hunter started to struggle but both of them stilled at German voices speaking low, muttering about the sounds of a fight they swore came from this direction. For twenty minutes, soldiers in Austrian uniforms searched the wooded area, never once looking into the treetops where two men watched them from above.
Once the Austrians moved away, both men relaxed. “That could have been unfortunate for you,” noted Reya casually, regretfully releasing the handsome armful from his grip. The hunter turned his scowling features from the ground to the vampire next to him. “What do you look like when you smile, I wonder?” The scowl increased. “I shall have to find out at a later date then.”
“You’ll be dust,” snapped Kaien, leaping from their branch perch and landing nimbly on the ground. “I must report back. Au revoir.”
Reya watched the hunter disappear toward the French lines. There was more to this hunter than met the eye.
Hunters normally stayed out of the politics and machinations of humanity and vampire alike, content only to hunt their prey as needed and stand on the sidelines. This hunter seemed to be up to his winsome neck in the French revolts and it’s following regime.
His interest peaked by the oddity of Kaien Cross, Reya decided he had nothing better to do so he followed the hunter home, so to speak.

We only have 3/10 books of the series so far ... but what do you think about a Stormlight Archive AU for the 5+ headcanons?
Oh my goodness yes if there’s one thing I am absolutely certain about it’s Brandon Sanderson novels always make great Voltron Crossover AU’s. This is  longer than 5 for sure, so I’m putting in a cut because it’s Long and I Can’t Stop Myself.
I hope all 2 people who understand this enjoy it
Highprince Alfor is one of the ten Alethi highprinces leading an assault on the Shattered Plains, alongside several others, including Highprinces Zarkon, Blaytz, and Gyrgan. Trigel is also a leading force behind her own army and the Dalterion princedom, but due to the gendred nature of Alethkar and war and combat being considered a man’s profession, she is basically the power behind the highprince’s throne but uses a male figurehead to do the actual warring.
Highprince Alfor is considered rather...unfashionable and perhaps a little scandalous for an Alethi highprince.
Although like many of his countrymen he is brash enough to rush into battle sometimes without thinking, or considering overall strategy, he also does not fit the Alethi mold completely. He fights alongside his men despite having a shardblade and shardplate, rather than letting them be cannon fodder before he takes on the weakened enemies for the final kills.
He’s been witnessed treating darkeyes with respect and camaraderie, even as a brightlord and a highprince.
And perhaps most scandalous of all, there are rumors that he can read, despite it being a distinctly female skill, and that he finds interests in other female areas of study like sciences.
As a result he’s something of a joke amongst many of the other highprinces, although he remains good friends with Blaytz, Gyrgan and Trigel.
He and Zarkon used to be good friends and once worked together to unify a great deal of the land into modern Alethkar, but have grown apart after Alfor found Zarkon growing too bloodthirsty even for an Alethi highprince.
Alfor’s daughter, Brightlady Allura, is much like her father.
Refusing to conform completely to Alethi practice, she does not hesitate to speak her mind about the foolishness of continuing the battle on the Shattered Plains for more than ten years. The games for the gemhearts are ridiculous in her opinion; they should strike quickly and efficiently as a full military force to actually win the battle. Her thoughts on military strategy are often disregarded, as it is not considered a female practice, although Alfor respects her intelligence when it comes to military combat considerably.
Allura has of course mastered most feminine arts required of her as a Brightlady, including fashion, arts (though she is somewhat lacking here), sciences (her favorite), scholarship, history, music, language, writing, and logic, and she scribes for her father personally. But there are rumors that, like her father, she scandalously disregards Vorin tradition and actually trains in weapons in her spare time, behind closed doors. And not even lighteyed weapons like swords! She trains with common darkeyed things like spears! Allura maintains perfect poise and composure in public, but even so, by now the rumors surrounding House Altea make more than one person regard them like they have no head.
When intrigue in the warcamps grows stronger and strange things begin happening, Allura begins to attract the attention of certain...otherworldly, conceptual beings.
Realistically speaking, Allura’s Voltron powers would suggest she would be either an Edgedancer or a Truthwatcher, since either one has access to the surge of Progression, which grants healing and growth powers. Of those, Truthwatcher would probably match more, as it also grants illusion and sometimes future sight, and its spren appears like a shaft or glimmer of light.
That said, I also adore the idea of Allura being a Bondsmith because can you just fucking imagine her bonding the Stormfather, forming spiritual connections with others, literally doing what she does in canon by bonding large groups into a cohesive whole for one united purpose, and also fucking refueling everyone with Stormlight/Quintessence when they’re on empty like the badass woman she is.
Like seriously just look at the bondsmith ideals. “I will unite instead of divide. I will bring men together.” “I will take responsibility for what I have done. If I must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” Allura as bondsmith, yes plz.
I like to reforge a little of a story when I do these AU crossovers but honestly, Kaladin’s story is a near perfect match for what I’d do with Shiro, anyway.
Shiro originally joins the army so he has opportunity to leave his little farming village. Although most assume his Calling is that of a soldier, which is a perfectly respectable male Calling, what he actually wants to do is explore and see the world beyond his village. Joining the army will let him see other places and earn enough spheres to travel on his own once his enlistment is up.
Unfortunately he is captured in a border skirmish and through increasing bouts of bad luck, ends up as a slave in House Daibazaal’s army. Bridge FourFivebecauseofthelionsgetit is not a great place to be and most people end up as canon fodder during the battles for the gemhearts.
Despite things looking really, really bad, Shiro is still determined to get out of this situation. Alive. With as many people as possible. Running is no good; the soldiers keep a good eye on the slaves. Nobody gives a damn about them; they’re just bridge slaves destined to be used as bait during the gemheart strikes. But Shiro has a way about him of encouraging people to do their best. He looks out for his fellow bridge crew even if they don’t care much about him in return, at first. People just feel like they can live through something if he’s leading them. They trust him. More and more slaves rally to his call and listen to his orders. They start calling him their Champion. Not everyone makes it every time, but more survive than anticipated. A sense of camaraderie starts to form. And even though it would be really easy to give up and abandon them all, or just stop caring every time somebody dies, Shiro doesn’t let himself.
Because of his actions, Shiro starts attracting honorspren, and eventually bonds to one. Because Shiro needs to fly, damn it, and I can’t see him being a Skybreaker; they’re a little too Law and Order levels of paladin. Shiro is definitely a Windrunner. Just look at those oaths! “I will protect those who cannot protect themselves” is literally what he does in canon against Myzax. “I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.” Shiro’s done this too in canon; he’s worked with people who had previously been enemies or protected characters that have clearly irritated him.
Keith is originally an orphan who ended up joining the army mostly so he wouldn’t starve to death. He originally is recruited as a page/runner, but in a particularly bad border skirmish he ends up getting put on the front lines, despite having very little training with spears.
(He does actually have some weapons training, with swords and knives, but he’s a darkeyes, so nobody is supposed to know that. ‘Don’t tell anyone you know how to do this,’ his mother and father repeatedly told him, while he was still alive. ‘They will wonder what rules you broke and you will get in trouble. Don’t ever trust a lighteyes).
Keith is positive he’s going to die that day, but Shiro actually saves his life on the battlefield. Afterwards, Shiro looks out for him for the six months or so they’re both in the same army together. It’s the first time anybody has ever cared about Keith at all since his parents died and he grows incredibly loyal to Shiro because of it.
When Shiro is captured Keith is devastated and basically tries to go AWOL. He’s caught and reprimanded repeatedly but keeps trying to run, until he’s eventually stripped of rank and cast into slavery. He’s a rebellious slave even then, constantly trying to run, and not worth the time of most slavers, so he eventually gets shipped out to the Shattered Plains where he won’t be able to escape and will probably die as fodder anyway
This ends up working out well for Keith, as he ends up stuck in Bridge Five where the lowest of the low slaves go, and finds Shiro again. He’s immediately OK with it. Bridge Five is awful but he trusts Shiro and he’ll do whatever is needed to support him. Keith is one of Shiro’s first real supporters on Bridge Five and the one that not-so-subtly encourages/forces others to listen to Shiro as well, or at least tries. Shiro usually tells him to back off a little because a team can’t be forced. But others do see that loyalty and that protection and learn to trust Shiro in part because they observe Keith.
Keith also has a secret he hasn’t even told Shiro, at least not right away: Keith owns a Shardblade. It used to be his mother’s (again, very strange for a woman), but when she disappeared the blade was left behind, bond broken. His father took it up, but made Keith promise to bond it and showed him how, in the event that his father died. Keith did as ordered when his father died, hiding the blade away inside his soul before any lighteyes could take it, but he’s very careful to never, ever reveal that he has one.
Keith doesn’t trust lighteyes at all and is extremely suspicious of them
He actually is the first to recognize the strange things happening around Shiro may, just maybe, be because of Surgebinding. His mother used to tell stories, whenever she showed him her knife, of the Knights Radiant and the old powers they had. He thought they were just stories, but when Shiro starts unconsciously doing these things, he tells Shiro about the knife and starts trying to help him figure out what’s going on.
Once Shiro’s ideals and his strength with his honorspren gets strong enough that the rest of Bridge Five starts developing Windrunner squires in his presence, Keith struggles to come to terms with the fact that he appears untouched by Shiro’s abilities. An Honorspren is a lot to live up to and Keith is afraid he can’t do it. Especially when, as time passes, every time he summons his shardblade he swears he hears screaming...
I would love it if Keith actually gets a similar storyline to Adolin instead, wherein he actually starts to awaken the spren in his inherited shardblade and bonds with whatever type that is instead. Because the knife feels like an extension of him and a partner. It’s the reason other honorspren wouldn’t try to bond with him, though, and the reason he can’t inherit Shiro’s powers when around him. (This would also be a nod to Keith struggling to live up to Shiro as a leader and forming his own way of doing things in canon)
Lance also inadvertently ends up on Bridge Five
Like many lowborn darkeyes, Lance had romantic dreams of going to battle, defeating a shardbearer, and getting to rise to nobility as he became a lighteyes through the shard bond. He planned to take good care of his family after that and never have to work a farm again. So he joins House Daibazaal’s army, for his region.
This didn’t work out out in practice as it turns out shardbearers are terrifying on the field and nobody in their right mind could ever take one down. Lance is suddenly brought to terms with his own morality and tries to desert. Unfortunately he gets caught and ends up as a slave on the Shattered Plains, shunted into Bridge Five. Where people go to die, basically, so he’s terrified.
That’s when he meets Shiro, who he looks up to almost right away. Because Shiro is just good at taking care of everyone on Bridge Five, and makes him feel like maybe, just maybe, he could live through this and see his family again.
That’s also when he meets Keith who he hates because what is this guy’s deal he’s a jerk. (But they do eventually learn to get along)
Lance is forced to come to grips with his own initial cowardice and he initially hates himself for it. He resolves to be stronger and do better, especially with a role model like Shiro to look up to. Even if they’re in the absolute pit of humanity they don’t have to act like it. They can still do their best. He’s also a little jealous of Keith at first, who never seems to be scared of anything even down here as a bridge slave, which sparks his rivalry with him to start.
When Shiro starts developing powers and the rest of Bridge Five starts inheriting dregs of them as squires, Lance is also seemingly incapable of getting those powers. It’s actually one of the ways he manages to bond better with Keith, when they both commiserate over being unable to do what Shiro can even though they’re both trying so hard in their own ways.
In actuality Lance is just destined to bond with a different kind of spren, but he has to realize who he really is first and what his Ideals actually are before he can recognize that or be recognized by a spren in turn.
I kind of like the idea of him being an Edgedancer, but Willshapers are described as having a “love of adventure, novelty, or oddity" and that they are "capricious, frustrating, and unreliable,” which could also match Lance. Although it’s hard to say since we haven’t seen their powers in action yet soooo...maybe it wouldn’t be a good match.
Pidge is another one that has a lot of parallels to Shallan to the point when half the story is going to be the same despite my best efforts, really
Pidge used to be a dutiful daughter and acted as the scribe for her father and brother, who did a lot of exploration and traveling work. However they mysteriously disappear in one of the cities, at the same time a lot of other people start to go missing
Pidge, alarmed but suspicious, starts doing more research and starts finding some frightening details that are curiously relevant between the disappearances and some terrifying lore from old stories.
No one believes her but she is convinced that a lot of weird things happening indicate some seriously dangerous turn of events with some very dark and evil beings. She even begins to suspect the battle at the Shattered Plains might not be what it seems; in fact, it might be a distraction from the real purpose.
She determines to head for the Shattered Plains. That seems to be the heart of everything, based on her research. One way or another, going there will help her find her brother and father again, and she can warn people there that dangerous things are coming.
People aren’t willing to believe her (or her newfound friend, Hunk) when she goes there at first, especially because she’s lowborn. However, Brightlady Allura takes a keen interest in what she has to say and gives her a place to stay, and Highprince Alfor takes her seriously.
While digging into the darker things and researching into some very unsettling information, Pidge attracts the wrong sort of crowd with the Ghostbloods.
She also attracts a spren of her own, and honestly I can’t see her being anything other than a Lightweaver like Shallan, because c’mon. Illusions? The ability to restructure things into other things? Pidge spends half her time in canon pretending to be somebody else, sneaking around, and messing around with science. This is absolutely up her alley. Lightweaving also commonly gifts an extraordinary memory or aptitude for precise details, which Pidge has displayed in spades.
Hunk has always had an interest in distinctly ‘female’ skills and pursuits, like cooking, sciences, and general academia, while he never shown particular interest in more masculine pursuits, like politics or combat. As such, Hunk eventually choses to join the Ardentia, which traditionally grants its members a genderless position in society and the right to pursue skills traditional to both genders.
Hunk isn’t actually all that religious--he just really wanted to learn cooking (and to be able to try sweet female foods as much as spicy male foods), and to study sciences. He also enjoys reading and writing and just learning in general.
Hunk is originally content just working at the temples and getting to learn cooking and to study to his heart’s content in his spare time. It’s a nice, safe, easy life and he gets to enjoy it.
Unfortunately once a young woman named Pidge starts entering the temples asking some very dangerous, on-the-edge-of-blasphemy questions about the Unmade and general theological debate, and insinuating some dangerous things about the war in the Shattered Plains, things start to get less comfortable.
Despite everything Hunk can see Pidge has some good points. She’s sharp, good at logic and makes for decent conversation about all sorts of topics. Her arguments aren’t unfounded even if they are uncomfortable. When she points out that this could be dangerous for all of Roshar, including his family and anyone he might ever care about, he grudgingly agrees to help her try to make her case. So he travels to the Shattered Plains with her.
Once on the Shattered Plains he ends up becoming an ardent specifically tied to House Altea, so he’s under their protection, since some of the edge-of-blasphemy questions he asks (or supports Pidge on) get him in a bit of trouble with the order. It’s okay though, everyone else here is so scandalous or unconventional he feels like he fits right in.
The full team does eventually meet up in the middle of a battle and Bridge Five does eventually join House Altea, though I have no idea under what circumstances. It’s honestly hard to top Kaladin’s rescue in The Way of Kings.

The ending to XV is still a robbery until they change it to something more sensible. There’s insufficient proof that the world is actually alright after Noctis sacrifices himself, and they took time to show that Noctis had plans to unify the different empires for peacetime. He was taken away before putting those plans in action and proving himself as a leader. What we have now is a half-assed MMO in Comrades and some token cutscenes in the Retcon Edition, but that doesn’t change that the main game's ending only covers the bare minimum (the dawn comes back). It says nothing about people or politics or anything about the WORLD the game and its side material have supposedly been trying to build.
Comrades expects us to believe that the people formed some kind of competent defense system plus governing body to lead them through ten years, that they could just keep using after Noctis died, just because they put it there and it exists in some form “in canon” and told us that’s how things were going.
That ignores the fact that it was only months/weeks before Chapter 13 that Insomnia was destroyed and upwards of thousands of people were displaced from their homes with no functional currency to use in the outside world. They were completely uprooted from their ‘advanced’ lifestyle-- a lifestyle which included their reliance on orphans of war and refugees from towns that Insomnia had abandoned in the first place (see: Galahd), a lifestyle that enabled the natives of the crown city to shamelessly treat those exact same refugees like second-class citizens while exploiting their labor-- the Kingsglaive were the ones giving their lives to defend Insomnia and they are mostly made of refugees that are all aware that Regis was using them for his own ends and they wouldn’t have betrayed him if they didn’t think that way. The natives were complicit, and those people needed to then adjust to a life multiple steps down from their usual standards, to live in areas where no one uses cellphones or has cellphone service to begin with, they have shitty cars that break down too often, and a nighttime stroll can kill them.
Insomnians are fucking coddled and wouldn’t be magically cured of it by having their home blown up, is what I’m saying here. There would still realistically be tension between them and the residents of neighboring towns that a) live under the heel of Niflheim, b) resent Insomnia and Regis, or c) they don’t think Niflheim is doing anything wrong ( it takes until Comrades for an NPC to say they don’t trust the radio. ) And then, how well would anyone handle it if they tried to get settled into another place like Lestallum or Galdin or migrated to Altissia for asylum and Altissia got fucked by Leviathan, Lestallum had a daemon infestation incident in its very own power plant, and Galdin eventually became uninhabitable from daemons? There’s at least one (1) unlucky person that’s survived all that nonsense and seen every home they’ve tried to make destroyed or compromised. That’s got to be bad for health and identity.
Even then, whatever didn’t belong to Insomnia belonged to Niflheim, even if it gave the impression of independence. Regis and Iedolas are definitely dead. Did the Altissian lady survive the ten years? She could be useful. Other than her, who else is savvy enough to lead people? There was Noctis, yeah, but no one in the world mentions having waited for Noctis or believed in his return without having actually known him. Does the general public even know why the world went dark? Would anyone believe that Ardyn was responsible for it? The Chancellor of Niflheim? The guy no one knew? The guy that no one respected? Ardyn played himself off as a nobody with connections. No one would believe he's a Lucis Caelum, the history books say he’s Izunia ( his maiden name before being blessed by the gods, I suppose ) and that doesn't sound like it was something that was ever publicized during the ten years of darkness even though Ignis and Talcott somehow found out in unexplained records that were somehow as legible then as they were 2000 years ago because I dunno, linguistic drift doesn’t exist in their world or something.
So there’s the people and the politics, what’s up with their infrastructure? Like I said, Lestallum’s been harvesting power from the meteor shards and somehow for some reason in this city that’s meant to be safe from daemons, they get a daemon infestation anyway right inside the power plant and it took Holly by surprise meaning... maybe, just maybe, the meteor has the parasitic Starscourge in it. And they’re still using its power for all their stuff. Does anyone in their world understand that at all? That’s like if the Lifestream were directly causing Geostigma and ShinRa still kept using Mako energy post-Advent Children, or if they still kept experimenting on people with Jenova Cells. It’s incredibly dumb.
More so since there are no professional medics or even hospitals in this world. Noctis almost died against Leviathan and instead of being someplace where his vitals are monitored and nurses tend to him, he’s sleeping it off in a bedroom. Nearly drowning is something you can just sleep through, apparently. There’s no medical care to speak of outside of the Oracle, which is baffling, since everyone in-universe should know that “healing items” don’t work, and post-Chapter 13, magic barely exists outside of the MarySueGlaives in Comrades.
What this means is the Starscourge would’ve fucked people over significantly. I can't imagine there's many children left after the ten years. They tend to be the most susceptible when epidemics happen. Them, the elderly, and refugees which there’d be a lot of. And I don’t think the Scourge would magically miss any important people like engineers and whatnot so a fair amount of them must have gone too. Just in general, anyone with connections put other people in danger by contact; it’s Starscourge that’s killing people, but the infected still have some amount of coherence left immediately after turning daemon ( see: Ravus, Iedolas, etc ), which would be ‘human enough’ to affect those that care for them. Sadly for them, only the Oracle can heal the Scourge, so they’re all as good as dead.  the Scourge is explicitly described as "Plasmodium malariae" and "insect-borne", so... mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are transmitting this disease ( if it's not the "miasma" the infected exude in their later stages ) and considering how easily it proliferated throughout Eos, no one invented repellent or breathing masks. Either that or people don't keep themselves clean.
And yeah. Healing items don’t work. "Items like potions and elixirs gain their healing power from Noctis's growing ability", otherwise potions are merely energy drinks. The flavor text for other items are the same way, so everyone is fucked if another meteor drops. Peep this:
Antidote: "A refreshing herbal drink that takes on curative properties by way of Noctis's powers." Phoenix Downs: "A talisman that takes on miraculous properties ..." Mega-Phoenix: "An elite energy drink transmuted into a miraculous plume..."/"A consecrated talisman that takes on miraculous properties..." Potion: "An energy drink that takes on healing properties..." Hi-Potion: "A high-end energy drink that takes on healing properties..." Elixir and Hi-Elixir: "A legendary energy drink that takes on superior restorative properties..." Megalixir: "The ultimate energy drink that takes on supreme restorative properties..."
So in other words, those items every shopkeeper sells are silly trinkets, luck charms, energy drinks, and no normal person who's ever bought those has had their life saved by one in their entire, presumably short thereafter, life. Yet they’re regularly sold everywhere. The only person whose "regular consumables" were known to actually help and have magical properties was Kimya, an elderly woman who... what was that... ah yes, got demonized by her sister Ezma/Izania for being a witch, and was cast out, even though Kimya's potions by her own admission were "very special", could "Repel the daemons, [strengthen] the Oracle’s blessing," and were used at havens. Izania exiled her sister to the forest, to practice her "witchcraft" alone, and made the forest off-limits. Not to mention the ten years of darkness after Luna and Ravus died meant there was no one to renew the spells on any campground havens around Eos. Lestallum is a WYSIWYG affair. Comrades tries to “make this better” by setting her up in Lestallum to imply she was no longer demonized and free to do her witch things, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that as far as the main game is concerned, she stopped existing past her sidequest.
Dino wanted to become a jeweler and create accessories. Accessories have flavor text that suggest their properties are real and not magical/imbued by  Noctis. Dino is turned into a daemon by the end of the timeskip. That he shows up in Comrades doesn’t change that it’s his clothes in Galdin Quay around the area he used to sit around in.
Sania had knowledge of what the Scourge was and with that knowledge would come how best to prevent its spread. Sania died/became a daemon by the end of he timeskip and her research was abandoned in a diner.
Point is, the original game's ending is a more "fake happy" ending than Verse 2. Verse 2 at least looks like it leads into further development for the characters and the chance things will go the way Noctis wants, with the most helpful non-Oracle people being present to use their knowledge and expertise. Verse 1 is an ending that only looks good on paper and addresses just one (1) concern of the plot at the expense of everything else. Noctis is dead, Luna is dead, Ravus is dead, none of the Bros are happy, all ( if not most ) of the world leaders are gone, the lead researcher on the Scourge died, the “local witch” didn’t survive, the jeweler is gone and so is the reporter with lore about the world, there's no magic, and that’s not getting into the fact that there are specific Scourge-infested dungeons that only open at night ( which are also difficult to access and optional for Noctis to get rid of ) and just... in the end who the hell is gonna care about some boy that fishes and strikes JJBA poses? He was fucking around Eos on a road trip, planting carrots, catching frogs, and finding abandoned weaponry in caves while ( and after ) his country got invaded, Titan shook the earth, and the Imperials were shooting innocent people. But look, his posse took a photo in front of a Magitek dropship!
I mean, we could make the case that Prompto's photos help cement that Noctis was a real person and not a puppet that those in power could ideologically castrate post-mortem and put words in his mouth to support whatever agenda they would try to push using his imagery, but that requires, like, Noctis to even be important in the public eye and have had a more political presence than a bedside confession to Prompto and a speech to a handful of people in the Retcon Edition. It also helps if anyone aside from his four friends and a bunch of nobodies actually heard him speak to begin with. He's really easy to misquote and put words into when no one gave him a voice. It’d be even better if he were actually alive. People interpreting his wish for Eos with their own biases of who he was as a person and how best he’d want things done isn’t the same thing as him doing it himself and proving his character.

Got tagged in this big long Describe Yr OC Meme by @chameleonspell because they love to make me suffer as they have suffered, toil as they have toiled. I am more merciful, which is why I am tagging no-one. (Also cos chameleonspell tagged most of everyone I’d’ve tagged anyway.)
GENERAL
Name: Simra Hishkari. Alias(es): Sim. Harmless. Flintfingers. “Hey, greyling…” Lonya, to his mum, but not for a while thank fuck. Gender: Cis male. Age: That depends where you’re reading, doesn’t it? Uhhh. He’s 11 in chapter one of part one, poking his nose around Senvalis’ shop and bothering the poor mer for paper. And now in part three, he’s recently endured his twenty-fourth birthday. Place of birth: Chiming Row, The Rigs, The Grey Quarter of Windhelm, Eastmarch, Skyrim. Spoken languages: Native Level Grey Quarter Dunmeri Patois. Fluent Marchspeak. A flexible range of Tamrielics, from the sort of versatile trade-tonguey Imperial Tamrielic you’ll hear at the docks of any major city, to something like the closest thing Skyrim has to a unifying language: an archaic version of Tamrielic with enough in common with all Skyrim’s dialects that it’s at least mutually intelligible for most people. Fluent House Dunmeris, with a few dialectic oddities picked up and understood. Relatively fluent Velothis. Some Riftspeak. Can curse a bit in Jel. Sexual orientation: Insert a withering stare and a question as to why it’s your fucking business. Practically speaking, bisexual. As in, he’s been attracted to men, women, and in the words of the warrior-poet Fred Durst, people who just don’t give a fuck. He doesn’t really have the terminology to parse that out in his own words though. Probably thinks of sexuality more in terms of activity than identity. Occupation: Murderhobo. Uhhh. I mean…freelancer. Currently, anyway. That is to say, sellsword, bounty-hunter, scavenger. Formerly? Semi-pro urchin. Carrier of heavy things on the Windhelm docks. Soldier-of-fortune. Prayer-scriv. Storyteller and sort-of-kind-of-sheriff at one point. Basically like a literal  accountant at another point too. Moral support to more qualified goatherds. Fireman — like, literally, a man who makes fires happen. Quartermaster’s assistant. Caravan guard. Itinerant herder and spokesperson of certain itinerant wisewomen. Bootleg performer of certain Temple rites and duties.
(This is long, so more under the cut.)
APPEARANCE
Eye colour: A reddish shade of amber or an ambery shade of red. Hair colour: Cinder-white. Height: About 5’10” (178 cm or s0). Scars: Oh god I literally have a fucking like reference sheet to keep track of all these. His Velothi harrowmarks: a hornlike curl out from the corner of his left eye, and a tapering line underscored for half its length with a series of dots, curving from the right edge of his mouth up towards his ear. A deep stiff scar through the left side of his lips, diagonal, from near his nostril to the beginning of his chin. A shallow horizontal scar across the side of his throat. A ragged starburst of scar tissue, in the muscle between neck and shoulder, just above his right collarbone and again at the back of his neck, from taking an arrow and having it pushed out. A flat diagonal stab-wound, on the left side of his ribs. A torn right earlobe. A straight raised scar up the back of his ribcage, on the left. A series of silver lines on the outermost three fingers of his right hand, where the joints meet the knuckles, and lightning-scar-looking traces following from those fingers over the front and back of his hand. And a plethora of tiny nicks and burns, mostly concentrated on his forearms and hands. Does a twice-broken nose count? Overweight: Nope. Underweight: At several points in his life, yeah.
FAVOURITE
Colour: Sea colours and shades of bronze. In clothes? Leather tones, slate greys, off-whites, neutral gloomy blues, details and decals in reds, silvers, copper, brass. Doesn’t tend to wear pure blacks or whites, or any particularly saturated colour — they spoil too easy. Hair colour: Statistics suggest red, though he’d be quick to insist it’s just coincidence, not, like, a fucking Thing or anything. Eye colour: Not red. Light-coloured eyes are weird and novel. Music genre: Weirdly he doesn’t enjoy music with lyrics all that much. (In canon, anyway — he’d feel differently in a modern AU or whatever.) Finds it distracting. They can be interesting, of course, but it’s not something that makes him happy hearing it. He likes stringed instruments with an emphasis on drones or echoes and silence. Things like the Tamrielic equivalent of qanun, koto, morin khuur, etc. Side note, but in modern AUs he’s definitely the sort of person who’s physically incapable of doing anything as mundane as laundry or tidying without putting a podcast on first. Movie genre: This is AU stuff, but yeah, he might talk a big game about being into Deep Penetrating Drama and so on, but he’d most often find himself watching the feature length equivalent of all you can eat hi-octane junk food buffets. Fighty action movies, particularly with an emphasis on melee combat. Finds revenge narratives particularly rewarding. Only genres he really considers himself a buff on though are samurai cinema and westerns. He’ll yammer at length about Anti-Westerns too if you get him started. (Don’t.) TV show: Hates the idea of having to watch anything live at a particular time. Fuck letting something as petty as TV schedule and section his life. Will gladly on-demand binge on historical drama, gritty travel documentaries, and twisty-turny political and intriguey thrillers. Doesn’t like cooking shows. Doesn’t want personality with his foodporn. He’d rather wait for the book to come out. Food: The Platonic ideal of Simra food is basically like soft starchy silky carbs with something sharp and heavily spiced on top. Rice porridge and preshta-jan, maybe with a raw egg stirred in while it’s hot. Fresh soft panbreads used to mop up redspiced mutton. Meat still feels like too much of a luxury to have often though, and he has a lot of feelings about vegetables. Pickled carrots, cucumbers, turnips, greens, green tomatoes, soft or crisp, spiced or just salty. Yams roasted in embers, smashed open, drizzled with spiced honey. Dried fruit is a particular pleasure as well, with a special place in his heart for persimmons and figs. Drink: Black tea of any sort – Nordic pine-smoked, Dunmeri fermented, light or dark, toasted or not – taken with sugar or honey. Alcohol of any sort felt like a luxury to be taken whenever luck offers it, back when he was a little younger. He’s got preferences these days, though whether he sticks to them is debatable and down to circumstance. He likes red and dark beers, biscuity flavours in the former, bittersweet in the latter. Hasn’t had either in a good few years though, and mazte compares oddly, to him — too starchy and sour. He once drank some Colovian grape brandy before he realised it was expensive enough that he really should have just sold it, and liked that well enough. He’s had actual grape wine once or twice and liked the idea of being the sort of person who liked it. He doesn’t especially like sujamma except in some freak cases – almondy and subtle vanilla-y wood flavours in that one bottle that one time – but he’ll drink it anyway because at least of all the quietly awful things Morrowind might offer you to drink, you have to drink less of it to know you’ve drunk it. He can’t remember if he liked mezga better or whether he was just less fussy back then. Book: Ideally he would have a larger foundation for reference than he does, but he doesn’t. Still, his basis for comparison has grown a little since he first learnt to read and first got covetous of books, so he does at least have some preferences. He’ll still hoard up and devour literally any book he can, good or bad, because books are expensive and serious business – even the cheap ones – but there are some where he’ll fall into impressed absorbed silence and others where he’ll complain the entire time. He has a thing for treatises on use of one sort of blade or another, not because he really enjoys reading them, or really because they’re very useful. Mostly they’re awfully written and opaque to the point of being very unhelpful. But that puts a sense of the arcane around them, doesn’t it? If something’s hard to read, it must be hiding something worth knowing. Simra reads, trawls, lives in hope that one day that assumption will prove right, but really the issue is that if you never check you’ll never know. Back in Suran he read a lot of pre-Red Year devotional poetry from back during the time of the Tribunal. That and poetry the old Temple couldn’t or didn’t censor and so decided was devotional even if it wasn’t. A lot of that was just wankery – tongue twisters for the brain, either thematically or in terms of its showy prosody – but you’d occasionally get the odd scrap of lyric that was just effortlessly well-turned. There was a third era Dunmeri poetess called Anthiss for instance, the printing of whose work the Temple officially banned which only stoked its popularity. It was only after she died – mysteriously, it’s worth noting – that the Temple lifted the ban and claimed all her work had been religious allegory all along, revealing a conflicted but truly faithful sole. Simra’s pretty sure that, no, she was just writing about her girlfriend the entire god damn time. Between that and tracts on philosophy, interpretation of scripture, hagiography…he enjoyed reading it all but in retrospect couldn’t say he liked all of it. At the heart of what he really enjoys unreservedly in books is escapism. Travel narratives – little holidays for the brain – they’re what put a glint in his eyes and a lightness in his heart without really having to try much.
HAVE THEY
Passed university: Nope, nor has he had any formal education of any kind, yet. Given my headcanons about the state of the Mage’s Guild, for instance, in the 4th Era, and other Imperial institutes of higher learning there aren’t quite as many opportunities for that sort of thing as there used to be. Not in the parts of the world Simra’s kept to so far, anyway. Had sex: Currently, not in a while.   Had sex in public: Define public… The tonghouse of the Dyer’s End Few wasn’t a premises as rich in privacy as it could’ve been, but I’m inclined to say no. Gotten pregnant: Please no. Kissed a boy: Yes. Kissed a girl: Yes. Gotten tattoos: Do scarifications count? If so, yes, facial ones. Gotten piercings: Six in his left ear. Mer have more cartilage than humans. One through the lobe of his right ear too, but that doesn’t really count as a piercing anymore — just a tear. Had a broken heart: Don’t ask. Been in love: Something like that. Stayed up for more than 24 hours: Here’s where he laughs in your face and says “twenty-four?” and kisses his teeth for two minutes.
ARE THEY
A virgin: Covered this. A cuddler: There’ve been times. Sometimes being close to someone’s all you want to fill your head with, your time with, your world with, and all you can do is do that. Not many times though. They’re more anomalies than anything else. Prolonged touching, or lengthy physical intimacy — he’s pretty averse. A kisser: Mouth-on-mouthy kissing makes him nervous. Half his lips don’t really work right and he gets very conscious of it. Makes him feel ugly, clumsy, exposed. Scared easily: Terrified, yes. He doesn’t exactly keep a level head on him all that easily. Jealous easily: Statistics would suggest yes. Worth noting thought that this is less in terms of seeing everyone as someone his lover might leave him for and so being possessive and shitty and more like he feels left out easily, left behind easily, and if he sees someone he cares about sharing some sort of positive experience with someone else, he’ll feel a sense of abandonment and sadness about it. It’s not an angry or suspicious feeling so much as a melancholy self-effacing one. Trustworthy: In what sense, exactly? Depends who you are, what you’ve done to deserve Simra’s trust or respect, what the circumstances in both your lives and their mutual conjunctions are, what there is to be gained from breaking your trust, or what there is to be lost by keeping it or sticking with you. Depends how strong Simra is at this point in his life. Uhhhh…this number of variables probably suggest that, Simra is not inherently a trustworthy person by nature. But that doesn’t mean he’s never loyal, or faithful, or worth putting your trust in. Dominant: Uhhhhh. Submissive: Fuckin uhhhhhh. In love: Right now? Fuck off. Single: And ready to mingle. (God can you even imagine.)
RANDOM QUESTIONS
Have they harmed themselves: Not with anything sharp. Thought of suicide: Yes. Attempted suicide: Comments on my fic suggest that a lot of what he does, accidentally or by choose, basically constitute attempts to die. Thing is though, Simra’s pretty much more terrified of dying than of anything else. Any attempts at straightforward suicide would be impulsive cries for help or lashings-out against feeling particularly helpless. The goal wouldn’t be dying. Wanted to kill someone: Wanting to sounds way more personal than he really wants to have to deal with. Appreciating the reasons for having had to do so? Fine. (Yes, yes, yes, but funny how the people he’s really wanted to kill are for the most part still alive.) Ride a horse: He regrets to inform you that, yes, he has ride a horse. Have/had a job: We’ve covered this. Have any fears: Ghosts and bones, yes. Death, or more accurately, ceasing to be alive and existent. Being maimed; no longer being whole. Blindness, deafness, muteness. He has a pretty primal flight-or-fight response to the idea of being caught out in any sort of lie. Oh, and he’s not fond of dogs.
FAMILY
Sibling(s): Yes, Soraya. Does she still count? Parents: Sambidal Dunsamsi Hishkari nas Mabudani nas Zainab, his babu, Windhelm dockworker and former adventurer. Ishar Dunsamsi Hishkari nas Nem nas Zainab, his ammu, Grey Quarter spellwright, seller of medicines, and former adventurer. Children: No. Pets: No. A cat might be good, but he’d get terrified of it deciding to abandon him, and would take it very personally if it was ever gone for very long.

FIRST OF ALL DONT!! EVER!!! APOLOGIZE FOR THIS!!! I LOVE THIS SOSOSOOS MUCH HOLY SHIT ANON ARE U PART OF INTSYS COZ HOOOOOOOLY MOTHERFUKCIGNG SHIT!!!!
Hey, sorry but I saw the stuff about the AU where Berkut grew up in Ram Village and I got WAY too into thinking about him as a playable unit and his role in this AU so I went and actually came up with a character sheet for him. Several of the quotes are borrowed from the cut dialogue options video for Berkut. Hope you enjoy! And I apologize for the length. As I said before, I got WAY too into this…
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Berkut
Alm’s cousin who grew up with him in Ram Village. Unlike his canon counterpart, this AU’s Berkut, having been raised in the small village, does not have a prejudice for peasants. That being said, Berkut still grows up with a great deal of pride in himself, a somewhat aggravating level of arrogance and confidence in his own abilities and strength, and an unshakable belief that he is destined for greatness once he grows up and is able to leave the village to make something of himself. His personality didn’t make him very popular when he was younger, however the love and loyalty shared between him and his cousin helped to smooth things over and within a few years everyone in the village was used to Berkut’s personality, knowing he really didn’t mean any harm. Much like Alm, Berkut grew up unaware of his noble lineage, but he wears a ring that Mycen gave him that used to belong to Berkut’s mother (the Keepsake Ring from canon, only in this AU it can only be equipped by Berkut). While Berkut does love his cousin, he is no stranger to bouts of competitiveness and jealousy when it comes to him. In the war, these negative emotions give him more insecurities as Alm is the one chosen to lead the Deliverance, as Alm shows more skills and natural ability as a leader, as it becomes clearer that Alm is the one destined for greatness, further aggravated by the reveal of Alm’s true lineage. But it’s not all negative, as Berkut grows into a fine, reliable soldier in the Deliverance. Alm admires his cousin and makes it clear that he wants Berkut by his side to help all of Valentia in the future. And he even finds love in a Rigelian Saint named Rinea, the daughter of an impoverished noble house who, despite her dislike of battle, joins the Deliverance in hope of finding a way to provide relief for her household. Despite this, Berkut’s growing insecurities make him a prime target for manipulation by the Duma Faithful and possession by Duma himself. And all this comes to a head when the Deliverance must fight against Berkut, either to end him or save him.
  Starting Class: Cavalier
Berkut’s one of a handful of people in Ram Village who owns a horse. It’s only natural he’d be a Cavalier, having been set on it since hearing of Mycen’s own adventures when he was young. His horse is a tame and gentle one, although poor Alm’s hair would disagree with that notion.
  Supports: Alm, Rinea
Berkut’s supports with Alm bring up their competitive nature as well as their mutual admiration, with supports C and B also hinting at Berkut’s growing insecurities. Berkut’s supports with Rinea have Rinea growing less shy and speaking her mind more around Berkut, while Berkut himself trusts her enough to be more open about himself. The A support for both Alm’s conversation and Rinea’s isn’t available until after Berkut’s plot arc is finished, which brings a close to his character arc involving them.
  Battle Against Berkut
Like I said earlier, as a result of both Duma and the Faithful, Berkut finds himself manipulated and possessed, against his former comrades. However, unlike his canon self, this AU’s Berkut hasn’t fully surrendered to Duma. Alm and Rinea try to get through to him and promise to free him from his possession. The battle, if you wish to save Berkut, is simple: rout the enemy (made up of a bunch of Arcanists and a cantor and a Duma Faitful member probably) without killing Berkut. And it’s not like Berkut can be killed in one shot, no his stats and the extra goodies that his possession give him make sure of that. And, to showcase that he IS fighting his possession, his AI will only attack every other turn. Furthermore, his AI does halved damage against either Alm or Rinea. If you successfully rout the enemy while keeping Berkut alive, Alm and Rinea will beg him once more to come to his senses, and their words plus the death of the other enemies is enough for him to break free and land the death blow against the Duma Faithful member. He is, of course, apologetic and guilt-ridden concerning his actions and everything that happened, and I would imagine Alm and Rinea manage to get through to him that they’re happy to have him back. Alm is glad to have his beloved cousin back once more and makes it clear that no matter how strong Alm gets, he’ll always be counting on Berkut. And it would be after this event that Berkut and Rinea get a relationship upgrade. On the other hand, if you go and rout the enemy and also kill off Berkut, of course Alm and Rinea are both horrified, they didn’t want to kill him, they didn’t mean for this to happen. Berkut says there’s nothing to forgive, that it was his fault in the first place for letting his jealousy drive him so far. Berkut wishes them and the rest of his comrades good luck I the future battles, he knows they are strong enough to finish things and free Valentia. He gives Rinea his mother’s ring, having planned on using it to propose after the war (the Keepsake Ring would only be able to be equipped by Rinea form this moment forth). Of course, Alm and Rinea don’t take the death well. In this case, certain dialogue and events in future moments would be changed if Berkut died compared to if he lived. I’d try to write pre and post battle dialogue for this event, especially the special dialogue regarding Alm and Rinea versus Berkut, but I can’t settle on just how I would want it to be like, so I leave that much up to your imagination!
  Endings
Berkut Ending (If Rinea Survived)
“Despite having lived in Zofia his whole life, Berkut made a home for himself in Rigel following the war. His cousin appointed him as an advisor and asked for his assistance in helping to unify Valentia from the Rigelian side. Berkut’s efforts endeared him to Rigel’s people, making him quite beloved, despite his somewhat harsh nature. Berkut married Rinea soon after King Alm’s coronation, much to the disappointment of Berkut’s many admirers, the pair building a happy life for themselves and their children in the years after.”
  Berkut Ending (If Rinea Died)
“Following the war, the loss of his love wearing deep on his soul, Berkut never truly settled down in either Zofia or Rigel. Worrying for his cousin, King Alm appointed Berkut as an advisor for Rigel, hoping the position would provide some stability. Berkut took to his work rather well, easing concerns and dealing with tension from rebel groups, becoming a well-respected figure throughout Valentia. However, anyone who knew him would agree that they had rarely seen any other man surrounded by so many people yet look so lonely.”
  Rinea Ending (If Berkut Survived)
“Lady Rinea’s hard work in the war paid off for her family, her noble house saved from total ruin. This brought much more attention to Rinea than she was ever used to, and she never did grow to feel fully comfortable among the other nobility. Rinea found herself most at peace in her beloved, quiet garden, beside her dear husband, Berkut. They made a warm family for themselves in Rigel and lived out the rest of their lives in happiness.”
  Rinea Ending (If Berkut Died)
“Despite her efforts in the war bringing her formerly impoverished house much prestige, Lady Rinea became even more withdrawn than ever, rarely interacting with the public except when absolutely necessary. If there was anyone she did seem to regularly speak with, it was King Alm himself. The pair could be spotted now and then, sometimes in deep conversation and other times silent, helping each other to grieve over their shared loss and becoming dear friends in the process.”
Darkness, Light, Balance
WTF is the Force even? Canon is so vague about it you could pretty much claim anything you want and that’s what I’m about to do. For the sake of my own sanity, I have created a unified theory of the Force. Make of it what you will. Share it, it comment upon it, tear it to shreds, or borrow from it if you like.
WTF is the Force
The Force contains multitudes. Literally. It is made up of the energy of every thing that has ever lived. The Living Force is made up of the energy of currently living beings. The Universal Force is made up of those beings which have died and become one with it. Unless they have mastered some crazy Force technique, beings who have become one with the Universal Force do not retain their memories, personality, etc.
Because it is made up of the energy of living beings, the emotional state of said beings can color the Force. Beings who are strong in the Force, i.e. those with a  lot of midichlorians in their system, are both more susceptible to the emotions within the Force and can color it more strongly with their own emotions. How long these emotions linger in the Force is determined by the strength and duration of the emotion and as well as who is experiencing it. Strong emotions experienced by a large number of people or by a powerful Force user(s) will effect a place for a long time. The cave on Dagobah, for example, is so fill of fear and malevolence because some really bad shit happened there.
Force Sensitives and Force Users
There are beings out there with a natural affinity for the Force called Force Sensitives. This is due to the high concentration of midichlorians within their bodies. People with a mild Force sensitivity may be more intuitive, more empathic and luckier (although not necessarily good luck). People with a stronger Force sensitivity may have all of the above, plus prophetic visions, telekinesis, and the ability to sway others.
With training, a Force sensitive can become a Force user, i.e. someone who deliberately interacts with the Force in order to achieve a specific outcome. Force users can do all sorts of cool shit like telekinesis, healing, mind control, lightening, and whatever other skills the plot demands.
Force Religions
There are a bunch of Force religions. Each of them has different beliefs and interacts with the Force in different ways. Some of them (like the Jedi and the Sith) can only be practiced by Force sensitives because using the Force is an essential component of the religion. Others, like the Church of the Force and the Guardians of the Wihls, seem to be open to anyone regardless of Force sensitivity.
The Jedi seek to interact with the Force without emotion. This way they can draw on the Force while minimizing their impact upon it. Ideally, they don’t color or warp the Force around them, but simply allow it to flow through them unchanged. They also try to minimize contact with those parts of the Force which have already been effected by the emotions of others, which does make a certain amount of sense when you think about it. For Force sensitives, emotions are highly contagious, so reducing contact with outside emotions helps them keep their own in check. The problem is that this greatly reduces the amount of Force they can access because ordinary beings regularly color it with love, joy, hate, fear, etc. just by going about their daily lives.
The Sith, on the other hand, seek to interact with the Force through the prism of a specific emotion or set of emotions. Every time they use the Force, they color it with this specific emotion. This amplifies their emotions and feeds them back to them exponentially. After a while, it also starts to effect the emotions of those around them in what is essentially an endless feedback loop. It grants them more power, because there’s more of their personally-flavored Force around for them to draw on, but it also makes it way harder for them to stop feeling whatever their preferred emotion is. If that emotion is an unpleasant one (hate, anger, fear, sadness) it can suck for them and everyone around them.
The Dark Side, the Light Side
According to Legends, the Sith grew out of the Jedi, which explains why they use the same basic dichotomy when discussing the Force. Other Force religions and Force users either don’t use this same dichotomy, or seek to use both the Dark and the Light.
So, what is the Dark, and what is the Light? The Light Side is the Force uncolored by emotion. Presumably, since dead people don’t experience a lot of emotion, it is mostly made up of the Universal Force, with some especially chill bits of the Living Force. Maybe from plants or something. The Dark Side, on the other hand, is the Force which has been colored by strong emotion. It is largely comprised by the Living Force, and possibly the angstier portions of the Universal Force like people who were murdered or whatever.
Neither side is inherently good or bad, but they both have certain benefits and draw backs. Using the Dark Side grants you better access to the Living Force; gives you greater (and more subtle) influence over living beings; prevents Jedi and other exclusively Light Side-users from using the Force around you; and gives you an expanding energy source. It also makes it much harder for you to control your emotions; can cause temporary psychosis; or can cause or exacerbate a mood disorder. Light Side users, on the other hand, are better able to maintain control of their emotions (theoretically anyway) and remain focused and clear headed. Unfortunately, they must maintain a certain amount of physical and emotional distance from other beings to avoid being caught up in their emotions.
My Oracion Seis Re- write
Okay he guys, Rhapsode here with another arc that is getting a big redo and this is how I’m going to do. Hope you enjoy so lets go!:
After the whole guild war, everyone is recovering.
Lucy still has her moment with her father and beating up Naked Mummy.
Lucy says she beat them up and Freed comments that Laxus ran into Zato of Naked Mummy
The guild gets emergency word from the council of the now discovered dark guild system. Everyone is at first shocked that dark guilds are unifying but Gray says it makes sense, what would a fallen guild do if it's no longer aligned in the legal system.
Erza remembers what Ikaruga said in Tower of Heaven about Death's Head Caucus being the strongest subsidiary guild under Grimoire Heart. They make comments like Ghoul Spirit and Eisenwald serving under Oracion Seis. Lucy even commenting that Erigor was never captured.
Makarov reveals that the reason this information is being shared is Fairy Tail has been personally asked to handle the Oracion Seis, who Rune Knights have found where they are currently operating. While the council doesn't like Fairy Tail they do acknowledge Fact Tail has the highest S-Class mages in the country.
On the way Erza, Natsu, Gray, and Lucy are preparing themselves. Lucy questions if this is S-Class level then why is she coming. Erza smiles saying they're a team now and they can't go on missions without each other. Erza even comments saying she has faith in Lucy's strength. But also coming with team Natsu is Mirajane.
Gray is at first curious and Mira reminds him that she is the only other S-class with Mystogan gone off who knows where and Laxus being excommunicated. Erza however has a look of worry when hearing Mira is coming.
Natsu asks why Gajeel isn't joining and Mira mentions that Gajeel hasn't fully recovered from the fight with Laxus unlike Natsu.
Gray is curious about the other guilds joining who were hand picked like them. Mira says it's Lamia Scale for having the only other wizard saint in Fiore. (As Jose has been expelled and Makarov's heart condition from Fantasia is still being looked at. The other, Blue Pegasus, has been chosen for their magic arsenal.
They make it outside the worth woodsea where Blue Pegasus has set up the "Blue Pegasus mobile base". The Trimen still flirt with all the girls and go through all that, but then Lyon arrives.
Gray is curious why and it turns out while Jura was the wizard saint picked by the council and Lyon is his plus one.
Natsu says they can start but Hibiki says they have to wait as they are receiving help from neighboring country, Seven.
People are curious and Hibiki explains that the Worth Woodsea crosses the border between Fiore and Seven. The location of where what the OS are looking for is unknown and both countries have been called to order. Wendy and Carla arrive saying she is the only sent representative of Seven.
Lyon is skeptical but Jura says that Seven is a much magically weaker country. Wendy says out of all the mages in Seven, she is magically the strongest but she can't fight.
Hibiki gives the low down on the situation explaining some of the analyzed Oracion Seis which is only Cobra, Hoteye, and Brain. Hibiki even saying Brain is the former head of the Bureau of Magical Development that use to be associated with the magic council until it was destroyed and the magic council refused to re make it as it they came to the decision it was inhumanly run and it's benefits were not worth the pain it caused.
Hibiki also reveals that what they want is Nirvana, a super magic made by the Nirvits. Ichiya shows off Christina, and reveals how they'll use it.
It then goes similar to canon, everyone running off to find the Seis, Jura gets stabbed, then Christina is destroyed, they engaged the Oracion Seis while Wendy hides, the alliance gets curb stomped. The only one fully holding their own is Mira and Erza.
Erza takes Cobra who breaks off some of her heart kruez armor and she gets bitten. (Yes I know she got bitten when in the flight armor but it is so stupid that she is in a jungle bikini and gets bitten. I will let her use her flight armor but she'll re quip into her normal armor which is broken and then bitten)
Everyone is terrified for a moment and Wendy comes out from hiding and Brain recognizes her. And calls her the Sky maiden. Brain has crossed all over Ishgar and he heard of the little sky maiden who lived in the palace of Seven. He grabs Wendy and Happy because he tries to help her. Brain says he'll be gentle and puts the two to sleep.
Natsu runs after them but Brain blasts him and is ready to activate dark rondo, Mira in satan soul uses her darkness magic to counter it.
Everyone is recovering, Lyon questions why they might have taken Wendy. Carla who's panicked reveals that Wendy is an incredibly strong healing magic. Eve says that they didn't even scratch the OS so why would they need a healer.
While they are conversing Lucy sees Erza in pain. Erza is clutching her arm and Lucy is concerned and Jura shows up saying that Erza is suffering a horrible infection. Jura is still injured from his abdomen stabbed.
Erza hears this and wants to not be a detriment and wants her arm cut off. Lyon tries but Gray says he won't let him. Gray reasons that if Wendy is a strong healer then they can use her to heal Erza. Lyon says that's impossible as the don't know where the Seis are so they'd be gambling on this.
Hibiki however activates archive saying he'll locate Wendy giving them a good chance of finding her in time. Natsu and Carla volunteer to go there and save Wendy as well as Erza. Ren stops him saying if only 1 could beat him around he can't fight all 6. Mira volunteers to assist Natsu as with Satan soul she can fly as well as being S-class.
Hibiki downloads the contents into Natsu, Carla, and Mira. They also form a second plan, if they can't beat the Seis then they can destroy Nirvana before they get their hands on it. They split up to cover other areas of worth woodsea as Gray and Lyon head north, Eve and Ren go west, and Jura takes east with Ichiya. Lucy saying behind to protect Hibiki.
In air, Natsu is dead set on saving Happy, Erza, and Wendy. Mira even jokingly saying Natsu used to be really scared of Erza. Natsu's fist clenches saying that is in the past, after all they've been through they're a team now and if anyone on his team was in a life or death struggle he'd do whatever it takes to save them. Even saying that they'd do the same for him. Mira smiles how much of a man of convictions Natsu has become.
We cut to a small flash back of young Wendy recently losing Grandeeney but then meeting Mystogan. Mystogan looked after Wendy and she was happy with him like her older brother. Over a year of them together, Mystogan doesn't want to grow to attached to Wendy as he fears he'll transfer his burdens onto her. He tells Wendy he is leaving and he's leaving her with the king of Seven so hopefully they can find an adoptive family for her.
The flash back ends when Wendy awakens at a small base controlled by the Oracion Seis, this base also once used by the Nirvits as a village, they interrogate Wendy. The other Seis (minus Racer who's on reconnaissance) are confused why Brain captured her.
Brain then says the Nirvit people originated from Seven and after sealing Nirvana returned there. Wendy living in the royal palace of Seven would most likely have information on where to find Nirvana. This abandoned village has been the only clue that their getting close to Nirvana.
Wendy cries saying she doesn't know anything. Happy tells Brain to leave her alone but Brain just kicks him. Brain sighs thinking Wendy doesn't know a thing, he then smiles asking Wendy to join the Oracion Seis.
Wendy's confused and Brain says like the other Seis he detected strong magic potential in her that he hasn't felt since he first met Jellal. Brain says Wendy's magic ability is limitless and under his guidance he can make her greater than Jellal or the other Seis.
Wendy questions why he'd offer that, he wants to hurt people with Nirvana. But Brain says he wishes to use Nirvana for good.
Brain made a dark guild as he is free from the over sight of the magic council. He says that the magic council is corrupt, lording their power over the magic world, but avoid being questioned under the guise of legality. Brain says the council only cares about the power of authority over the magic world and not the growth of magic itself. Brain saying how after losing the bureau, they wouldn't re build it as they feared the discovery of magic that they can't control.
Wendy doesn't fully doubt Brain. Seven has low magic population and never bothers with them. Brain is manipulating Wendy to try and join him, Brain is taking advantage of her being from Seven and so young.
Brain states that with Nirvana he'll wipe the slate clean and make a new magic government. One devoted to magic and there would be no label of dark or light guild. Wendy is honestly shaken by this and is thinking things over.
They're interrupted by Racer who says that the alliance has gone off in three directions in search of Nirvana. Brain tells Racer to sick the sub guilds on the alliance, as well as ordering Cobra, Angel, and Hoteye to find Nirvana.
They leave with only Midnight staying because he's asleep. And Wendy is left to ponder. Brain though, confident he's convinced her. We cut around as other dark guilds attack other groups. Naked Mummy attacks Lucy and Hibiki. Naked Mummy remembers Lucy from love & luck and want payback. While Hibiki says he'll assist, Lucy says his job is to monitor and her's is to protect Erza and him. Gray and Lyon easily wipe out a group but don't work together, Gray does notice Lyon using two hands. Ren and Eve fight some others. Jura and Ichiya take another guild easily however Ichiya says Jura's wound is still fresh and it may slow him down. Jura says that the pain perfume did more damage and this stab he'll live through. Ichiya is knocked off a ledge and Jura rushes after Ichiya.
Cut to the base and Brain asks Wendy but before Wendy says anything there is a flash back of her in the palace of Seven and she sees a painting of a city and it's titled Nirvana. The king of Seven, Roubaul, says that Nirvana is an evil that should never be unleashed.
Flash back ends and Wendy yells no. Brain says it's a pity as he wanted to cultivate her but now she must die. Natsu bursts in with Mira ready to grab Wendy. Brain tries to fire off an attack but Mira blasts him before he can and Brain's knocked back. Midnight shifts a little looking like he may wake up.
Natsu and Mira try to move but Racer returns and kicks Natsu. Natsu wants to fight but Carla says that this isn't worth it. So they all flee. Racer chases after them.
Cut to Lucy finishing off Naked Mummy and Hibiki says Natsu has Wendy but they're now pursued by a OS. Hibiki transmits this info to Gray as he and Lyon are closest to Natsu's location.
Cut to Racer hunting them down and trying to take them out. Gray intercepts and he and Racer begin to fight. Using this time Natsu's group escape Natsu saying he owes Gray.
They fight, Gray saying Racer is pretty damn slow. Racer is pissed off saying for him how fast you are is what your life depended on.
Racer explains he came from the country of Sin. In Sin there was a place called Zanne (Italian for fangs) where families who couldn't afford to raise more children would abandon them. In this cove was a horde of monsters but young Sawyer survived as he always ran away.
Brain, who was traveling with a young Erik, found Sawyer and offered to take him away from this place. Racer never stayed went back to Sin or looked for his family but that didn't matter to him.
Gray snickers saying that Racer may run from his hardships, Gray was able to stand up to his. Racer engaged attacks but is stopped by Lyon.
The fight goes the same with Racer trying to bomb them but Lyon tackles him over a cliff.
Cut to Brain being visibly scared one of his tattoos are gone. He then yells loud enough for Cobra to hear that they should split up and kill the alliance. Angel is a little puzzled why Brain would want them to be that extreme for people they already beat a just role with it.
Cut to Natsu's group being blown out of the air. They think it's a Seis but it's just Erigor who after avoiding capture worked as an Oracion Seis enforcer.
Natsu wants to fight but Mira reminds him about time. Mira says she'll handle it. Happy says he already beat this guy once and doesn't have to do it again. Natsu takes Wendy and leaves.
Cut to Lucy making small talk with Hibiki. Hibiki revealing he had a girlfriend who died and he was upset he couldn't be there for her.
A wounded Gray shows up but it turns out to be Gemini who has Gray's appearance and memories.
Angel appears saying she's come to not only knock out the alliance strategist but also kill Erza in her wounded state. Lucy yells she'll protect them. Angel is quite surprised that Lucy is a celestial wizard, as it's an incredibly rare magic that actually didn't come from Ishgar.
Lucy questions where Angel got the golden keys and she said they were family heirlooms passed down to her.
A flash back shows Angel came from Pearl Town in the country of Joya. Her parents had died in an accident and Angel and her younger sister were too young to support themselves so they were going to be dragged away for foster care. At the door of their house Brain knocked and they mistook him for being with the foster agency. Angel just then thought he was a beger with two sons.
Brain not only felt her magic power but also saw her keys offered to teach her magic. After listening to her whining he promised her, if she joined him then he would make it so the world would become her little bubble that she controls.
Angel agreed though her younger sister crying telling her not to leave. Angel over the years developing her holier than you, superior to you attitude.
The fight is the same but Angel reveals what Nirvana is, it's a magic that was once used to take away the darkness of people. Take away their hatred, their greed, their negativity etc. But it also can work in reverse and Brain plans to use it to take away the light of the magic council system, corrupting it and effectively toppling the legal system and with Nirvana, make a new magic world.
Natsu returns and sees Urano Metria. He comments saying Lucy looked awesome. The two exchange smiles.
Wendy heals Erza and at the same time Brain loses another tattoo. Now sweating bullets, Brain says that he needs to summon Midnight. He wakes him up ordering Midnight to slaughter the alliance.
Cut to real Gray in search of Lyon's corpse he runs into Jura who's looking for Ichiya. Jura asks where Lyon is and Gray tells him the story and Jura starts crying. Gray asks why Jura brought Lyon and Jura wipes his tears saying he saw Lyon trying to set himself on the right path and potentially Lyon wouldn't just become a great wizard but possibly the next master of Lamia Scale maybe even a saint.
Jura senses Hoteye and fires rock pillars at him. Hoteye and Jura have a back and forth of solid rock vs liquid ground. Hoteye says he's the better man but Jura says a battle is won by those with greater morales and Hoteye has none meaning he's nowhere close to being a "better man".
Hoteye is enraged by this and uses his secondary form of magic, polygon magic, to use parts of his body as weapons. (Okay here's something I want to mention Richard doesn't have his heavens eye meaning he's not really called "Hoteye". With his polygon magic I was going to change his name to reflect that, so something along the lines of Block. It's a work in progress)
Richard thinks he can't be beat now and yells at Jura to call him the better man. Jura however creates a storm of rocks to knock away the polygons then make an iron rock pillar to propel himself forward and punch Hoteye in the face.
Jura repeats his saying about morals and Richard starts to cry. Both Gray and Jura are surprised and Richard talks about the tower of heaven.
He and his brother Wally were slaves and while Wally would be assertive to the guards, Richard was more submissive and followed their orders. Wally was frustrated with him calling Richard weak.
When Brain came to the Tower he stayed for about a year and trained Jellal. After the training was over, Brain selected Richard and Macbeth. Richard left the tower thinking this was a random choice, but Brain said he chose Richard for his high potential magic and Richard took that to heart and decided to reinvent himself into a great man his brother could look up to, someone who's rich and powerful.
Jura says that isn't greatness. Money can't make a great man and using power to disrupt the world of magic isn't the right way to use magic.
Richard cries saying he's scum and wants to die now. Gray tells him no and that it's never to late to set yourself on the right path. This even causes Gray to have a thought about Lyon and sacrificing himself for Gray.
Richard agrees to help them but just then cuts to Midnight cutting down Ren and Eve.
Back with Lucy and Natsu, they're catching Erza up and they say they need to find Nirvana but then Cobra finds it and releases it.
We cut around to see several reactions, one of them being Mira who just defeated Erigor, Ichiya getting swept into the release, Brain who now is smiling and cackling while walking towards Nirvana, and finally the pillar of light can be seen from the palace of Seven and Roubaul sees it saying it's time for him to pay for his sin.
A guard in Seven says what does he mean and Roubaul says it’s time to impliment the plan for his death and people to take over when he passes.
Natsu, Lucy, Wendy and Erza set out for the pillar, Natsu and Wendy using their exceeds, Erza using Black wing armor, and Lucy riding Taurus to make it to the top of Nirvana. Mira goes Satan soul to fly up and Jura makes a pillar to act as a bridge.
Hibiki stays behind to try and find the Christina wreak.
On Nirvana, Natsu shows up and fights Cobra. The midair battle separates him from all of the others and Lucy sets out to find him, Erza tagging along too.
The girls meet up with Jura's group, as well as Mira, and state they need to move. Midnight shows up and knocks them around. Lucy, Wendy, and Gray go to find Natsu. Jura, Mira, and Erza to find Brain.
Richard and Midnight having a back and forth about living in the tower.
Cut to Natsu fighting Cobra. Cobra reveals the second generation dragon slayer powers. Brain from afar watches this saying that in his research he found that while the origin of Dragon Slaying magic is unknown, the creation of dragon lacrima was simple to gain power of a dragon without fear of becoming a dragon.
Cobra thinks about how he met Brain in Desierto. The country is pretty much barren desert but Brain having recently lost his position, walked through the Desierto's longest stretch of desert, called the dried oasis, saying he's running out of time.
Young Cobra tries to mug Brain in the desert but Brain beats him back. Brain wants out of Desierto and wants Cobra to show him but the child refuses. Brain senses Cobra's magic potential decides to bribe him. Brain offers to give the dragon lacrima that he saved from the Bureau to Cobra in exchange of him joining him and getting out of Desierto.
Cobra was Brain's student and loved the time he spent with him. He considered Brain his father. In the present Cobra says why he can't let down Brain. Natsu says he's got his own dad he wouldn't want to let down.
While this happens in the Worth woodsea Hibiki finds Christina and is also found by Lyon who survived the explosion. They get to work trying to figure out how to get Christina up and running.
Back on Nirvana, Natsu beats Cobra. Brain almost has no more tattoos and finds Cobra. He shoots him after calling him worthless. Cobra passing out after saying dad.
Natsu is saved by Erza, Mira, and Jura. Mira asks how Brain could do that to someone who considered family and Brain remarks he's now pass the point of caring.
Lucy's group arrives and grabs Natsu, Wendy going to heal him. Mira engages Brain. Mira tries to fight darkness on darkness but Satan soul runs out. Erza feared this would happen as Mira is only now using magic again and she's not at full mastery again. Jura steps in beating Brain, but all the fighting plus his abdomen wound finally makes him fall. Jura isn't dead but he's over exerted himself.
Midnight finishes off Richard and comes across this. Erza fights Midnight and it goes the same way in canon.
Zero awakens blasting away Erza, Mira, and Jura. Zero now goes to the center chamber of Nirvana and orders it to head to Seven.
Zero reveals he wants only destruction. But is slowed when the fixed Christina shoots a leg of Nirvana. Hibiki downloads the info about the lacrima to those on Nirvana. Gray, Lucy, Natsu, Erza, Mira, Ichiya, and Wendy, all split to find and destroy them.
Lucy, Natsu, and Happy go to the central lacrima together and find Zero. In the central chamber Lucy comments on it being hard to breathe and Zero says it's due to the high level of ethernano inside this chamber that comes from the pulsating lacrima.
Zero says Brain wanted to use the Nirvana to corrupt and turn others into pawns but Brain also feared Zero so he thought he could use Nirvana to remove him.
But know Zero has a new plan, he reveals that the Nirvit only absorbed Darkness of people and feared trying to sacrifice it with giving up others “light”. So they seled it. Zero says “what would happen if a magic fueled by nothing but emotions of darkness were to be used offensively.
The power of a darkness charged Nirvana could just destroy anything, Natsu and Lucy work together but Natsu is knocked into a wall.
Natsu recalls the feeling Tower of Heaven when jellal filled the tower with magic.
Natsu notices the torches in the chamber, golden from being enriched with ethernano and eats them. Causing Dragon Force.
Zero decides to use dark genesis on Natsu. Lucy saying no, but happy shows he stole Angel’s keys like he did with Everlue. Lucy uses Gemini to copy Zero and while he’s not strong enough to fight Zero, he has access to Zero’s magic and opens genesis zero.
Natsu comes out and crushes Zero through the central Lacrima. Nirvana falling right at the door step of the Seven’s capital.
They recover from the fight, Hoteye turning himself in with the OS and Wendy introduces them to Roubaul. Roubaul looked after Wendy when Mystogan left her.
Roubaul reveals that he was the chief of the Nirvit and he made Nirvana. He tried to force peace but realized it was wrong, but he still choose to not balance the light and dark as a people with no war seemed better to him.
He sealed Nirvana and the seal used also was attached to his life force, so as long as Nirvana existed he existed.
The newly made Nirvit people migrated to what was now Seven and built a new home. Roubaul watching the progress still felt this was all thanks to perverting others and taking their darkness.
Now Nirvana is gone, he passes and wishes Wendy to go out andlive in the world of magic.
Wendy wants to come to Fairy tail as she not only wants to become more involved in the world of magic but also the time she spent with them felt the same as her time with Mystogan and then She hugs Natsu.
So that’s the OS arc. Please leave any thought or comments and know all constructive criticism is encouraged.
RP Forum
sandrock
Good luck! I hope you have a lot of fun. Suggestion: If you make some TnC RP friends, see if they'd like to start an RP group with one unified canon/plot. It'll feel a little more like you're used to. c:
Thanks!  I haven’t actually found ANY active TnC RP blogs so far, though I’m definitely hoping that they exist.  Like, maybe if I build it, they will come.  XD
I have kind of a personal fantasy about creating another RP forum for Nitro+CHiRAL RPers using a similar format to my old one.  The advantage is basically that everything is extremely organized and intuitive, and you can get some really fun ongoing interactions with a bunch of people that you would never be able to do one on one... like... for example....
Tae’s out of town, Christmas party at Aoba’s house!  Koujaku brings the sake.  Clear shows up in drag, Koujaku and Mizuki both try to cover their nosebleeds when he carelessly bends over, Noiz spikes the punch, Mizuki notices but Clear gets totally drunk and tries to get Mink to join in the fun and stop weaving little beaded hair bands by lap dancing.  ViTri show up with the cake and like 40 presents that are all for Aoba, then the Alphas show up and demand everyone join them in a karaoke contest, which quickly devolves into a stripping contest, Ren discourages Aoba from joining in but of course he does anyway... and drags Ren along with him for a double act (Ren requests that it please be something other than “Who Let the Dogs Out”)... Mizuki tries to get Clear to sober up but winds up making out with him in the broom closet instead, which of course Noiz has pseudobunny filming and projecting out to the main TV, etc etc etc.  Many minds = nonstop shenanigans. THEN if you bring in the other N+C characters, of course Konoe is joining the karayoke contest, Rai can bitch about the stupid kids with Mink, Asato cheers excitedly for Konoe even before the song starts, Bardo heads to the kitchen to make a few snacks since the only things anyone’s had to eat all evening is cake (SO MUCH CAKE) and alcohol.  The issue of WTF we’re going to do with all this cake is naturally solved when Makoto shows up.  Rin cartwheels in with his camera and makes everyone pose for pictures before demanding he be included in the karayoke, Shiki shows up with Rin but doesn’t see Akira anywhere, but after throwing Noiz up against a wall, he’s intrigued that the only thing the german has to say in response is “more.”  So he drags Noiz upstairs to entertain him for the evening.  Noiz is totally cool with this, but STILL has pseudobunny secretly film it and project it out to the living room, because WHY NOT.  Koujaku is jealous and doesn’t know why, so he grabs some more sake and chats up Mizuki, who’s a little preoccupied with Clear at the moment.  The Alphas get to talking with Rin and agree that indeed, older brothers are pretty much the worst thing ever.  Aoba’s trying to figure out why Youji’s just cowering in a corner but is getting so little out of him verbally that he’s considering using scrap just to get him to loosen up.  And so on and so forth forever and ever.  Anything goes. We had a few muns join our forums who were originally from Tumblr over the years, and my experience has been that they’re able to catch on and jump right into threads pretty much instantly.  (I think I’ve figured out a good solution to having multiple muns playing the same muse, which is the only issue I see relevant to the N+C fandom that I’ve never had come up before, LOL).  But I follow several different Clear RPers, for example, so they would either have to pick different threads to be in or come up with some reason why there would be multiple Clears in a thread (which may be plausable for him, since he’s an android).  Same with Aoba and his split personalities.
Anyway, it’s just kind of a fantasy right now... but if there was ever enough interest, I’d be happy to set up a forum for us to try it out.  I have some good fail-safe icebreaker threads that ought to work for just about any cast.  But as it is, I’m still pretty much no one in this fandom, so I have no way of knowing how many folks would want to check something like this out and try something new.
inFAMOUS Verse Pit. Conduit!Pit
Basics
Name: Pit Regis Steelland III Date of birth: May 6th, 1996 Place of birth: Seattle, Washington Age: 20 Age taken to Curdun Cay: 13 Powers: Earth manipulation (all things made from the earth, including Sand, Metal, and Magma ), Enhanced strength, Durability, Rapid healing, immune to electricity. Hair color: Black Eye color: Blue Build: When he was younger he was chubby. Years spent in Curdun Cay he’s lost a lot of weight. Almost malnourished. Weapon: His fists and his powers. outfit: Curdun Cay jumpsuit. Weakness: Very bad temper, fits of rage, willing to hurt people that get in his way, trust issues.
Months after the events in the second inFAMOUS game happened. Curdun Cay was formed to lock away all Conduits called ‘Bio-terrorists’ due to what happened with ‘The Beast’. Little did the people know, but Curdun Cay was meant to ‘protect’ the Conduits instead of harm them. Though.. That was subjective. At least that’s what the head of the D.U.P. The Department of Unified Protection. Brooke Augustine believed. What better way to keep the humans without powers from lynching and killing the people with powers.
Pit Steelland. Age thirteen. Was born to a middle class family. His first thirteen years of life went normally. He went to school, shopping, playing with friends. Everything a normal child did. That was until.. Pit suddenly awakened as a conduit. His powers coming months after the formation of Curdun Cay and the D.U.P.
He moved rocks, dirt, sand, everything related to the earth with his mind. He thought it was amazing. He thought he’d become a hero and be able to help people with his powers. Like his parents taught him. No reason to ever hurt anyone when he could help everyone.
That was.. Until his parents saw him playing with the rocks. He showed them his powers and instead of being congratulated and welcomed with open arms. His parents screamed. They ran inside. Pit attempted to follow only to be greeted with a gun to his face. His father.. Pulled a gun on him and called him a monster and to stay away from them. His mother was on the phone. Calling the D.U.P.
Soon.. Brooke appeared. Along with D.U.P soldiers. Brooke tried to encase him in concrete, but.. As an earth conduit he was basically able to control her powers too. It frightened Augustine to the point her soldiers immediately tackled him and cuffed him. Making sure he wouldn’t use his powers anymore by using the special cuffs to inhibit his powers. As he was dragged away he begged for his parents to forgive him for having powers. He wanted everything to go back to normal, and for him to never have these powers.
Once at Curdun Cay. Pit was put in his cell. While there Pit was freed from his cuffs, since there was no point with his powers relating to earth. The cell he was in was metal.. If he practiced enough with his powers he probably could break out, but he was still a novice. Him breaking free of Augustine’s concrete was really just sheer dumb luck. Though it would be a lot easier to learn if given time, and well.. Pit would have nothing but time for as long as he was going to be in here.
As he resided in his cell Augustine came to visit after a week of him just mindlessly making toys out of some objects in his cell. Showing how much of a child he still was. When he met Augustine again. She had an offer for him.
“Let me train you to fight, and you’ll be welcomed with open arms.. You will be able to protect yourself and other conduits.”
Pit thought about it for a bit. It.. Was a nice offer.. Protect himself and people like him? Though.. What about normal humans? When Pit asked Augustine told him about how he wouldn’t ever be accepted by them and how he was going to stay in Curdun Cay forever anyways.
Pit then remembered. He didn’t want to fight.. He just wanted to protect everyone. He never wanted to learn anything violent. He was taught to never fight and always help.. This was taught to him by his grandparents and his parents..
When he told Augustine that. She sighed. “Looks like we have to do this the hard way..” Was all she said.
Soon Pit was dragged to a ‘special’ room designated for people that were ‘uncooperative’. As Pit was strapped in.. A switch was flipped and.. Nothing happened. Pit learned through this.. That he was unable to be shocked. Being in a constant state of grounded since he was now basically earth. Augustine took note of that and Pit soon enough was put back into the power inhibiting cuffs and was shocked again. This time it worked. Very well.
Pit screamed in agony as he was electrocuted. Though of course not till he died. IT was all just trying to ‘convince’ Pit to join her. Pit refused. For a thirteen year old his resolve was true. He wouldn’t change. He wanted to make his grandparents proud and.. The people he used to look at as his parents proud too. This went on for hours until Augustine decided enough was enough for the day.
He was thrown into his cell and was left on the ground. Crying his eyes out from the experience he just had. He hoped it was just a one time thing. That wasn’t the case. For a long time Pit would deal with torture from Augustine and the members of the D.U.P.
After a year of pain and torture. Pit was forced to go into an arena. Augustine wanted to show the conduits that were coming in she was the top dog, and told everyone about Pit’s power and how he ‘used’ to be able to beat her, but now with her training she could prevent him from doing that. So she would show everyone.
What she didn’t know is while Pit was in her presence. He was able to understand her powers since she tended to use them on him as part of the torture. Saying her famous catch phrase “I’m told that hurts”.
What she also didn’t know is.. That year of long, painful torture. Let him break.. Not in the way she wanted though. He wanted her dead. He wanted to personally end Augustine’s life with his hands along with his parents. Anyone who stood in his way would also be killed. Pit kept quite, he didn’t want her to know. After all if she did this day wouldn’t have came.
Augustine prepared a concrete attack and he immediately used it to bring her close. Within seconds he began to choke her, his hands turning to stone as his grip began to crush her neck. His dream was about to be achieved, until a sniper shot Pit with a tranquilizer shot. Making him pass out.
When Pit woke up he was in a small room, with four walls. This place was made just for him. ‘The Hole’. From the day he entered he would live here for six whole years. With many different types of torture. Including starvation and dehydration. As to name some of the torture methods Pit had to endure. As punishment for trying to kill Augustine as well as to try and convince him to join her.
Of course this didn’t work, and only made his anger for her grow. All this anger he felt, and the constant torture gave him some anger management problems. On days where Pit wasn’t tortured and was questioned on why he never joined he tended to lash out in pure anger. Saying he wanted Augustine’s head and to destroy all of the D.U.P. though this only would be used as the D.U.P’s ‘proof’ that conduits needed to be put here.
Pit’s bursts of anger from the constant harassment and torture would be put on display for people that needed proof about how ‘bad’ conduits are.
This would continue on for years.. During his time he got to meet a few conduits that Augustine wanted him to meet. So she could show what would happen to them if they disagreed with her and her ‘plans’.
He met Fetch, Eugene, and Hank. During the meetings they asked a few questions. Fetch asked a bit about what he did to get in ‘The Hole’. Which he told her all about, giving quite vivid detail about how it was nice to see the Augustine’s life slowly disappear. Eugene asked him if he had any games he liked, and Pit told him about what he played years ago. As for Hank. Hank asked a question that would show just how angry Pit was and how badly a smiling thirteen year old child was turned into a nineteen year old man filled with pure rage.
Hank asked if he could do one thing. What would he do?
Pit replied by bashing against the door with such force he had to be electrocuted to incapacitate him. Though he said it loud enough it would hopefully send a chill down Augustine’s spine.
“I WANNA KILL BROOK AUGUSTINE!”
When the events of inFAMOUS: Second son took place hear heard about the three people that were being moved. He knew he wouldn’t have been qualified. Though when he heard from D.U.P. officers that Augustine left Curdun Cay after Hank, Fetch, and Eugene escaped.
Though this made Pit smile. He knew it was all Augustine’s plan and it would back fire. So he waited. Letting time tick away..
Canon ending (Good Karma Delsin).
The D.U.P. is exposed and Augustine is arrested for the crimes she did on the conduits like him. Delsin makes sure to free him first after hearing all the stories from the other conduits.
Pit comes out and stares into the light of day for the first time in seven years. Pit asks Delsin all that happened and hears Augustine is in jail. Pit ‘accepts’ that and says that she is getting what she deserves in a way.. Though he still wishes he could have ended her life. Then he asks if his parents are still alive. After a bit of research he learns and attempts to kill them.
Though before Pit can take out all his pain and anger on them Delsin stops him and plays a bunch of messages that were sent to Curdun Cay. Messages from his parents asking if they could have their son back. Saying they made a mistake. To the point  they blocked their number.
This calmed Pit down and he forgave his parents. Though he needed a month away from them before he would decide if he went back to them or not. In the end Pit went back.
As a result Pit would go to anger management and counseling for all the suffering that happened. He also got back a bit of his weight he lost. Least to the point his build is similar to Delsin’s.
He is an ally of Delsin and gladly helps when Delsin calls. Same with Eugene and Fetch.
Non-Canon (Evil Delsin)
Pit is freed and Delsin takes his powers. Though after Pit’s powers are taken Delsin learns all about his past and his seven years of pain. Pit also then asks what happened to Augustine. When he tells Pit he killed her. Pit goes into a fit of rage and proceeds to show his powers for the first time ever to anyone. Powers that show even though he hasn’t trained he is a force to be reckoned with.
He defeats a weakened Delsin due to absorbing Pit’s powers. Fetch with blast of earth that sends her into a wall hard enough to knock her out, and Eugene with a massive stone fist that took out his avatar form ‘He Who Dwells’.
As everyone is knocked out Pit proceeds to find his parents and murders them with his powers. Fight the police for a bit and then disappear. Killing ten police officers and his parents.
He then goes into hiding.
Pit’s build becomes more muscular as he proceeds to get stronger and stronger with his powers and his body. He plans to kill Delsin for taking Augustine’s life.
As Pit puts it.
“She was my kill, and no one else had the right to kill her other than me.”
TAGGED BY: Instead of admitting openly that I tagged myself I’m gonna credit the indirect tag to @deathvow
TAGGING: Free for the taking!
—    BASICS.
▸     IS    YOUR    MUSE    TALL    /    SHORT    /    AVERAGE ?
In canon, Darwin is 175 cm tall, or about 5′9″. For an adult male of European descent, that’s basically right at average.
▸      ARE    THEY    OKAY    WITH    THEIR    HEIGHT ?
His mother was a sickly and small waif of a woman, and Darwin went through periods where he wouldn’t eat for days on end due to poverty as a child. He considers himself lucky he managed to even get this tall.
▸      WHAT’S    THEIR    HAIR    LIKE ?
Soft and effortlessly shiny, but a bit on the unpredictable side.
▸     DO    THEY    SPEND    A    LOT    OF    TIME    ON    THEIR    HAIR     /    GROOMING ?
Oh, the time he spent trying to control that cowlick before realizing it was useless...but now, not so much. Bathing and basic grooming are a necessity, especially when one spends time training and getting all sweaty, but Darwin doesn’t require a whole lot.
▸      DOES   YOUR   MUSE   CARE   ABOUT   THEIR   APPEARANCE   /   WHAT    OTHERS    THINK ?
He does, to a reasonable extent. Growing up, he didn’t have clothes that could even really be considered presentable until he started getting hand-me-downs from Orlando. He also takes good care of his fighting gear before heading into battle, finding that making his sword and armor shine gives him a bit of a confidence boost.
—    PREFERENCES.
▸     INDOORS    OR    OUTDOORS ?  He likes them both. He can spend time lost in his own thoughts in a quiet room or a spacious outdoor area.
▸     RAIN    OR    SUNSHINE ?  He usually prefers sunshine because there’s more to do. In his younger days, he spent a lot of time reading exciting stories, and playing less active games with Orlando or Marie when it rained, but he could actually act out those stories outdoors with his friends on sunny days. Rain also decreases visibility in battle and can lead to slips and falls..
▸     FOREST    OR    BEACH ?  He spent entire days outside in the woods behind the Crichton family home playing with Orlando and Marie until they were exhausted but happy. He’s never been to a beach, but the forest is special to him from so many memories.
▸     PRECIOUS    METALS    OR    GEMS ?  Gems tend to offer better stat boosts for speed and luck...
▸     FLOWERS    OR    PERFUMES ?  Flowers.
▸     PERSONALITY    OR    APPEARANCE ? Many of his fellow mercenaries are rough around the edges but good people who share a sense of pride and brotherhood fighting to represent the strength of their country. Personality is key as far as he’s concerned.
▸     BEING    ALONE    OR    BEING    IN    A    CROWD ?  Being alone. If he’s in a crowd, he usually prefers to have someone he knows with him. Crowds make him anxious.
▸     ORDER    OR    ANARCHY ?  Order. He’s seen when places fall into anarchy and lawlessness, and there’s nothing but bloodshed and senseless violence. There needs to be an order to things.
▸     PAINFUL    TRUTHS    OR    WHITE    LIES ?  He’s known his fair share of painful truths. He believes honesty is the best policy, but that doesn’t make the truth hurt any less at times.
▸     SCIENCE    OR    MAGIC ?  Magic and science have close ties in Ornia, with magic being a source of power and technological advancement. It fascinates him, since he has a naturally curious mind. That, and one certain magic user has unquestionably gained his favor.
▸     PEACE    OR    CONFLICT ?  Peace. Though conflict does grant him an income, that doesn’t mean he enjoys it.
▸     NIGHT    OR    DAY ?  Day. The bad memories and nightmares tend to show up at night.
▸     DUSK    OR    DAWN ?  He’s not a morning person by any means, so he’d almost certainly choose dusk.
▸     WARMTH    OR    COLD ?  Warmth. He spent too many of Ornia’s winter nights outside as a very young orphanage runaway. Nowadays, he doesn’t mind the cold quite as much since he knows he’ll have a warm house to return to.
▸     MANY   ACQUAINTANCES    OR    A    FEW    CLOSE    FRIENDS ?  He’s not socially inclined, and his closest friends mean the world to him. He would take them over every person on the planet wanting to be his friend.
▸     READING    OR    PLAYING    A    GAME ?  Both. He’s always liked reading stories about adventure and heroism, getting lost in them easily, but it’s definitely amusing to see Orlando get furiously angry over losing a chess game to his “little brother.” Darwin can only hope to beat Marie someday.
—    QUESTIONNAIRE.
▸      WHAT    ARE    SOME    OF    YOUR    MUSE’S    BAD    HABITS ?
He’s not great about sharing his feelings and his worries even with the people he trusts, and it drives them crazy when they know something’s wrong and want to help. He just fears being a burden to those who have made him feel so accepted and loved. His tendency to bottle things up also leads to sudden outbursts of anger when under duress, and he always feels awful after doing that.
▸      HAS    YOUR    MUSE    LOST    ANYONE    CLOSE    TO    THEM ?      HOW    HAS    IT    AFFECTED    THEM ?
Yes. His parents both died when he was five years old, though he was only close to his mother. His mother passed away first after her fragile health began to decline rapidly, and his father died several months after because of a relapse into substance abuse. Years later, Orlando and Marie’s parents passed away unexpectedly, and that affected him on multiple levels. He had become fond of Mr. and Mrs. Crichton himself, but to watch Orlando and Marie experience the same unbearable pain as he had felt wrong and unfair. They had helped him out of such a dark place, and it didn’t seem like such kind people ought to have to suffer such a great loss.
Once he followed Orlando into the life of a mercenary, he saw much more death. It didn’t get any easier. And throughout the events of CR2, he witnesses deaths of allies as they tried to fight off monsters, and deaths that he had no choice but to inflict. Each death is harder than the one before it.
▸      WHAT    ARE    SOME    FOND    MEMORIES    YOUR    MUSE    HAS ?
He tries not to let the memories of his loving mother fade with time, though it gets harder. For the most part, his happiest memories involve Orlando and Marie. They used to play together as children, calling themselves “The Unholy Trinity of Ornia” and having a great time. Even as they got older and playing pretend lost its appeal, his relationship with Orlando turned from a best friend relationship to that of brothers. Marie used to have to take drastic measures in order to put a stop to their prank wars. She wasn’t without her own mischievous streak, however, and she and Darwin would have wild pillow fights when he stayed over at their house, and she always managed to embarrass both of the boys when they had scary storytelling contests. She always managed to have them jumping out of their skin after delving into some old anthology of chilling tales in the name of victory. Those memories are only found in retrospect...back when they were actually occurring, Darwin was petrified.
▸     IS    IT    EASY    FOR    YOUR    MUSE    TO    KILL ?
Not even a little. When he was recruited to the Ornian Guard at fifteen, he thought it would be easier to kill since he’d already experienced so much death, and since he was fighting to protect the people he cared about. The abundance of loss in his young life only made it that much harder, and it got to the point where he became so lost in regard to his purpose that he almost forgot why he took up the sword in the first place. Even after the game ends and he regains his sense of direction, killing isn’t easy...but he know that it’s necessary in his line of work. As long as he can be merciful and avoid senseless, unnecessary killing, and he can be sure that he protected his fellow mercenaries, eventually returning home to the people he loves, then he can keep his head held high.
▸      WHAT’S    IT    LIKE    WHEN    YOUR    MUSE    BREAKS    DOWN ?
Not many people see Darwin break down, because he keeps a sturdy and imposing wall around his heart. However, this ice-covered brick wall protects a warm and vulnerable heart that feels things very deeply, from anyone who can potentially cause him too much pain if he lets them in. He is shown as a man who cries when appropriate, and in the company of those he trusts...or if he’s under extreme emotional duress (such as when he cries in front of Lessica for the first time). His tears are so heartbreaking to behold that they can bring about a sense of melancholy in others, and because of his tendency to bottle things up, there are times when it’s hard for him to stop crying once he starts.
▸      IS    YOUR    MUSE    CAPABLE    OF    TRUSTING    SOMEONE    WITH    THEIR    LIFE ?
He has to be, what with his line of work. The Ornian Guard is a group of unified mercenaries, so he has to rely on others to watch his back and let others do the same for him if need be. Darwin adapted to this perhaps a bit more slowly than your typical merc, due to the massive trust issues left over from his troubled past, as well as being a reserved and independent person in general. Still, he learned eventually for the sake of survival.
▸      WHAT’S    YOUR    MUSE    LIKE    WHEN    THEY’RE    IN    LOVE ?
It’s unexplored territory for him...but he’s always been fond of exploring, and he’s eager to explore this. While he may not always say what’s on his mind in regard to his own worries, he will never hesitate to let his partner know she is loved. Whether by light squeezes of the hand or sweet kisses, by taking care of household chores, or saying “I love you” outright, it is always apparent. His eyes are more focused than ever before in battle, as what he has to return to once he goes home is of dual importance, but during his free time, he stares ahead, longing to hold her again. He is attentive and affectionate during intimacy, his utter devotion driving him to satisfy them both. Even as time goes on, the passion and attraction never fades, but the loyalty, affection, and companionship stays ever strong. He owes her that, and so much more than he can ever hope to give.
The Secret of BOOM! Box’s Success: Diverse, Hopeful Comics
Imprints are a tricky thing in comic book publishing. Pay attention to the industry long enough, and you’ll see plenty that come and go after an initial burst — or some stick around but noticeably divert from its original vision.
BOOM! Studios launched BOOM! Box in December 2013 with “The Midas Flesh” #1, from the team of writer Ryan North and artists Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb. a href=”/tag/lumberjanes”>”Lumberjanes,” from Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis and Brooke Allen, followed a few months later, and soon became the line’s breakout hit. The stated goal of BOOM! Box upon its initial announcement was to “push the envelope with experimental content from some of the brightest, forward-thinking creators in comics today,” and the books have remained consistent with that initial promise, with a robust line of original series from the Los Angeles-based publisher.
EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW: “Lumberjanes” #37
Now, with “Lumberjanes” entering its fourth year later this month with issue #37, and John Allison, Max Sarin and Liz Fleming’s “Giant Days” hitting the issue #25 milestone this week — fairly lengthy runs in the relaunch-happy comics market — CBR talked in-depth with BOOM! Box founding editor (and “Lumberjanes” co-creator and co-writer) Shannon Watters and BOOM! Studios editor Dafna Pleban (editor of “Lumberjanes” and “Goldie Vance”) about the importance of providing “joyful, gleeful comics” targeted at a diverse audience, along with a look at the recently debuted “Coady and the Creepies” from Liz Prince and Amanda Kirk, and the May-debuting “Misfit City” by the writing team of Kiwi Smiith & Kurt Lustgarten, and artist Naomi Franquiz. Plus, CBR has the first look inside “Lumberjanes” #37, by Watters & Kat Leyh, and artist Ayme Sotuyo.
CBR: Shannon, Dafna, to start out, BOOM! Box has been around now for almost three and a half years, and a lot of imprints have come and gone in less time than that. Even BOOM! has had some trouble getting them to stick, but this one has. For both of you, from your perspectives, what do you see as what BOOM! Box has provided to the comics medium that was needed?
Shannon Watters: What we strive to do with BOOM! Box is provide really joyful, gleeful comics. Specifically, joyful, gleeful comics that are targeted not just at folks that are looking to show up and get the same old things that they’ve always gotten. It’s a perspective that I think a lot of folks in indie comics, especially webcomics, have been trying to put forward for years and years, and all we’re doing is attempting to amplify that for the mainstream comic book market.
Dafna Pleban: I think it also helps that it was, by accident or design — and I think it’s a little bit of both — a bit of counter-programming to what was happening in the stores at the time. I think we got really good momentum with KaBOOM!, and the “Adventure Time” comics, that showed there was an audience that is looking for something that is all-ages in a sense that anyone could read it, but not necessarily dumbed-down as if it’s only for kids. I think over time, other companies — IDW as well, and DC and Marvel — have been seeing that there’s an audience for people who want to be able to share this with anyone, not just people who are up to the last 20 years of canon.
That started bringing in enough people to take a chance on something like BOOM! Box, which was a bit older than all-ages, also more different kinds of readers, like women and teens — a more diverse audience that doesn’t necessarily find a work that speaks to them in the mainstream space. I think we kind of lucked out. There’s good stories to tell, there’s stories that haven’t been told a thousand times, and there was an audience that was already coming in for all this other good work that we and other publishers were doing, that were ready to try something new.
I’m sure you’ve experienced it on your end — there are some great books that get overlooked all the time, and everything about them works. The artist works, the writers work, what they’re trying to tell works. I can’t count — I think my favorite one recently was “Omega Men.” You look at Tom King, and he blew up right after that, and it’s not that it wasn’t good — it was amazing. It just hit at a point where people weren’t paying attention. And I think that book’s going to live on in trade. It’s weird to equate “Omega Men,” which is really dark and more adult-oriented, with “Lumberjanes,” but I think it’s a fair comparison to make. To some degree, we were really helped by people noticing at the right time, and telling their friends.
Watters: I said this a lot when we were getting the imprint off the ground: We wanted it to be kind of a clubhouse for everybody. We wanted it to be the cool kids’ clubhouse that everybody could join. We wanted everybody to be a part of it. That continues to be a guiding principle today.
“Giant Days” #25 cover by Max Sarin.
Certainly my guess is a big reason these books have been successful is that they’re appealing to an audience that is growing, but has often been underserved by mainstream comics. Is that a deliberate focus with the line?
Watters: Absolutely, 100 percent. There are a million places in this town where you can be a sad boy telling a sad boy story. That’s fine.
Pleban: I’m probably reading a lot of those!
Watters: That is the “mainstream.” We all have been raging against the machine re: the New York Times Best-Seller list taking their graphic novel list out of commission. It is a damn shame, because it was such a valuable tool for telling everybody the truth, which is the books that people are reading are by women and marginalized creators, and telling stories that are not about straight white men. Literally, the biggest contingent of people reading comics today are young women. Raina [Telgemeier] has been at the top of the New York Times Best-Seller list for how long? Years. Dominating. Multiple books.
What we’re talking about, we refer to direct market comic books as the “mainstream” comic book market, but that’s nonsense. It is not the mainstream market. It’s not. We are making the kind of books that serve the people that should have been served there for the last 10 years, and were not.
Pleban: The last time publishers remembered female readers exist was manga — 10 years [ago] is actually the last time a huge amount of women were welcomed into comic shops; comic shops started stocking manga. I think we have this cultural forgetfulness that women read comics and make comics, because at the end of the day, if you don’t make your space welcoming, if you stop offering the content, they’re not going to show up. I think BOOM! Box is tapping into an audience that’s hungry, and has been reading comics for ages.
I think you see that kind of genre reflected in the tone of BOOM! Box books. They tend to have the kind of — I call them “extreme swings of emotion” — that manga popularized. It helps give that whimsy to a medium that has been a bit navel gaze-y and serious for a couple years now.
Watters: Couple? Couple of years? Sure. Just a handful.
We’re approaching creators and doing the comics that we like, as queer women in 2017. Ask us about our agenda in comics. We could talk forever!
“Misfit City” #1 cover by Naomi Franquiz.
The New York Times Best-Seller list was such a good reality check to people in the direct market bubble. And in three and a half years of BOOM! Box, if you look back at the announcement of the line back in 2013, it’s striking to me that it seems like it’s remained very consistent — it’s grown, expanded, but that general mission statement appears to still be very much defining what a BOOM! Box release is. In what ways do you see the line as evolving, experiencing important growth, in that time?
Watters: I think as far as the mission statement, [it] has always been “make gleeful comics for everybody.” But I do think we’re narrowed our focus tonally to the kinds of comics we want to be making. Generally, they feature lady protagonists kicking ass in a variety positive ways. But that feels very derivative to reduce it to that.
It’s hopeful to write stories that exist in that space, because it gives you strength. Because the real world is not like that, it gives you strength to read stories about people who are living in that world, and who are able to tell their stories in that safe space. I think it’s very valuable and very important. We’re going to continue to refine our mission statement, and continue to get better at things that are goals for us, in line with our mission statement. It’s been quite a lovely few years, and I’m very happy with how it’s gone.
For whatever reason, I feel like hopeful stories are uniquely important in 2017.
Watters: No kidding. No flippin’ kidding. It’s hard times to make hopeful stories. Thank goodness this train is already on the track.
Pleban: We tend, for the longest time, to tell limited runs. BOOM! Box has most of our longest-running books, outside of “Adventure Time.” “Lumberjanes” is about to pass year four.
Watters: 36 issues. And it’s sold something like 800,000 units in single [issues].
“Giant Days” is going into its third year, and “Lumberjanes” is going into in its fourth year, which is massive, that there’s a market for that out there. They’re being sustained.
Pleban: “Goldie [Vance]” is going into its second.
Watters: It’s amazing.
Pleban: It’s rare for a lot of independent publishers to have ongoing, universe stuff, and we feel comfortable in that space.
Watters: I think BOOM! Box has always been this way, but has developed even more so over time; a very character-driven imprint. I have a unified theory of character in monthly comic books: Nobody comes back month after month for super-duper involved plots. You have all these big companies with these amazing characters that have been developed over years and years and years, and they just drown them in these over-complicated events and plots.
The reason that people come back to something every week, or even why somebody watches a television show every week, or comes back month after month for a comic book, is because they like spending time with these characters. That’s the thing we really feel strongly about at BOOM! Box. It matters less what Jo and April and Molly and Mal and Ripley are doing every month, because you enjoy hanging out with them.
“Coady and the Creepies” #1 cover by Kat Leyh.
BOOM! Box has had big hits like “Lumberjanes” and “Giant Days,” and also “Goldie Vance” and “Jonesy” as newer successes, but at the same time, it’s not easy for any new concepts — let alone an imprint that’s solely new concepts. What are some of the challenges you’ve experienced with the line? We talked about how some series appear to have everything going for them, but don’t find the audience they merit.
Watters: Obviously, any new series runs that risk. We try to engineer series that sell themselves. But obviously not every series is going to find a foothold or an audience that it deserves. However, I always feel like those series are learning experiences for both me and the creative teams, and if they touch someone the way that our mission statement wants people to be touched by our books — if somebody is affected or inspired by a series, and has discovered it because it was out through BOOM! Box, then it’s worth it. It is building a brand in a different way. Maybe we didn’t have a ton of readers on a series, but that reader who showed up feels seen and understood that they don’t in a lot of other contexts at a comic book shop, and that’s somebody who is going to come back. That is somebody who is going to come back for the next series, and the next series, as long as we’re doing our jobs right.
Launching a new series is always a challenge; always a gamble. But what I hope is that each series that we do continues to find a foothold — a very strong foothold — with some readers, and those readers trust us to be making content that feels true and relevant to them, and they’ll be back for the next one.
It’s always going to be a challenge. Every single part of it is a challenge. Comic book publishing is a horrible racket, and it’s always a challenge — but overcoming that challenge is a matter of self-examination, and learning from those experiences, and trusting that if you do honest, high-quality work, you will have touched someone and they will give you another shot.
Pleban: Also anxiety.
Watters: So much anxiety.
Pleban: I think what Shannon was able to do with BOOM! Box — BOOM! Box was Shannon’s baby, let’s be clear about that — is that it comes from such a specific point of view, and it’s an unconscious specific point of view. You can sometimes see when someone’s trying to tap into a zeitgeist, and it feels a little constructed, and it feels a little planned. I think what was helped with BOOM! Box is, Shannon just innately responds to people speaking their truth — which sounds like a collection of phrases, but it’s true. I think “Lumberjanes” is a very clear example of that. It helps that Shannon co-created it, but I can’t count on how many years Shannon talked my ear off about “Baby-Sitters Club” and I could care less, but then I see what she responded to in “Baby-Sitters Club” unconsciously filtered into something like “Lumberjanes,” and it makes 100 percent sense. I think every single book there you can tell comes from a place of, “This person has that story to tell, whether they realize it or not.”
On that subject, in the three-plus year history of BOOM! Box, are there specific titles that maybe readers didn’t check out as much as they should have, and should go back and take a look at?
Watters: I felt like Jake Lawrence’s “Teen Dog” should have gotten a zillion eyeballs on it. That’s the most lovely, honest, beautiful little book. It was very much a passion project for me, bringing that on to the imprint. I feel like if it launched at BOOM! Box today, it would have a much higher readership than it did. Same with “Help Us, Great Warrior.” Those are just two very intensely emotional honest and true and kind and powerful comics that I wish more people had checked out.
Let’s wrap by taking a look at the newer books coming out this year — Liz Prince has a new series from the line.
Watters: Yeah! We’ve got “Backstagers,” which has been just such a lovely book for us. Again, just people telling their truth, like James [Tynion IV] and Rian [Sygh] just telling their truth. “Jonesy” is wrapping, Sam [Humphries] and Caitlin [Rose Boyle] kicking butt on that.
We’ve got the new Liz Prince series, “Coady and the Creepies.” It’s such a pleasure. It’s one of those things, you don’t expect it until it comes together. It’s kind of a punk rock — if you know Liz’s earlier work, you’re going to love this. It’s very much her sensibility. It’s “Josie and the Pussycats” meets “Scott Pilgrim” meets all of Liz’s work over the years. It’s supernatural punk rockers trying to complete a pin quest, but one of them is a ghost. It’s just so fun and funny, and beautiful, and again, you just read it, and you’re like, “I love these characters. I just want to hang out with them. Let’s hang out every month.”
Then we’ve got “Misfit City” coming out in May. It’s going to be real good. If you’re a fan of very classic ’90s teen movies, you’ll really respond, I think, to this one. “SLAM!” is continuing, that’s just lovely as heck. I love girl friendships — I could just watch girls be friends all day long. As we’ve talked at length about, “Giant Days,” “Lumberjanes” and “Goldie Vance,” but I’m so proud of my little corner of the publishing world. I’m happy that people keep showing up for it. I really appreciate it.
“Giant Days” #25 is on sale this Wednesday, April 5. “Lumberjanes” #37 is scheduled for release on April 26.
