I just saw a good omens analysis that made me think. So after the confession Crowley doesn't just leave, he stays outside the bookshop and outside the Bentley to look at Aziraphale leaving because he wants to see him getting away to fully believe what is happening and to show Aziraphale what he is losing right? WRONG
You see, we have seen Crowley getting upset a bunch of times both in season 1 and 2, and what does he do when he's upset? He leaves
We can go off together scene in season 1, he gets upset with Aziraphale and he leaves
I'm getting my stuff and I'm leaving scene in season 1, he gets in his Bentley and leaves
He finds out about Gabriel, he gets very upset and leaves
At the end of season 2 he's the most upset and hurt he's ever been so it would make sense for him to leave, to run in a way, to avoid further suffering. After all Crowley has always done this, he drinks to avoid suffering for example...so why does he stand there?...but then Aziraphale turns and looks at him and suddenly it's clear. In a way yes, Crowley is there because he is, to quote the book, an optimist and some part of him wanted to believe that Aziraphale could have changed his mind at the last second but I think it goes deeper than that.
He is not there to make Aziraphale question his decision, because he already tried that...he is there to reassure him, he is there because he wants him to know that when heaven will eventually turn out to be far from good he will be there for Aziraphale. He hates to see him go, and he hates to basically see what has happened to him happening to Aziraphale...but he can't help but to love him, to be there for him and to forgive his naivety because ultimately that's also what he loves him for.
Do you really think that after denying himself Aziraphale for 6000 years he could hate him for him not wanting to run away together? Crowley knows he goes too fast for Aziraphale and most of all, even though he doesn't respect heaven, he respects Aziraphale. He would never force him to do something he doesn't want to do, he loves him too much to do that. That is why the kiss was as powerful as it was, because for the first time Crowley was, in a way, selfish. Even though they both love each other and they both want each other, the kiss clearly showed who was ready for it and who was not. Crowley did that as a last resort because he knows deep down that Aziraphale wants him as well, but he also knew it was not the right time. The man was desperate and tired of heaven taking Aziraphale away from him...but even after all of that he stands there because he will always be there for Aziraphale no matter what. That hint of doubt in Aziraphale's eyes when he turns around to look at him just before leaving is all he needs because he knows him, and has seen this happening before...and even though he's hurt, he would never leave Aziraphale. Imagine the scene without Crowley: Aziraphale looks back and he doesn't see him and probably thinks "he left me, I made the right decision"...but no, he sees Crowley, standing there, not leaving even in that moment and that is what will, ultimately, bring Aziraphale back.
How? Well, we will have to wait and see I guess

*SPOILERS AHEAD*
So I’ve been seeing a lot of people talk about how big of a mistake Aziraphale made in the finale and how badly they feel for Crowley (instead of feeling bad for BOTH of them). And honestly? I don’t understand the perspective that Crowley getting his heart broken in episode 6 has to mean that Aziraphale was totally naive and wrong and that it’ll take Crowley a lot of time to forgive him, or that Aziraphale’s ending in season 2 wasn’t just as heartbreaking as Crowley’s.
Think about everything we know about Aziraphale, who has never once been power-hungry and— following season 1— no longer cares what Heaven thinks (he even told the Metratron that he didn’t want to go back to Heaven when first approached). Aziraphale only left because he sees angels like Muriel, who definitively have good in them despite everything, or even Gabriel who somehow figured out how to fall in love and find something that mattered more to him than the supposed ‘morality’ of Heaven. Aziraphale sees that spark, that potential of Heaven to be turned into what it should have always been, and he thinks that he can do it because he’s seen proof of angels who can get away from Heaven’s influence, a list that includes himself.
Not to mention THAT look he gave Metatron after he brought up the Second Coming, a look that (at least from where I’m sitting) was a definite steeling of nerves and his own way of saying “Okay, time to take this thing down from the inside”. He was NOT saying that Crowley should reform himself for Heaven, or even that they should go back because he missed Heaven. He was asking Crowley to go with him because he loves him and wants him by his side— and because he knows that Crowley has experience in being there for angels who slowly deviate from Heaven.
Aziraphale wants what he’s always wanted— to keep helping everyone he possibly can, without stopping to do what he really wants and just stay in his beloved bookshop with the love of his life. Because he never prioritizes what it is he wants when he could be helping others instead. That’s just who he is, which is what makes him so selfless and wonderful but also so sad in that he never just…lets himself be happy. And the Crowley that we all know would never hate or have lingering fury toward him for that. What Aziraphale is doing, although heartbreaking to people like me who just want the Husbands to have their little cottage in the South Downs, is actually really brave, AND just as worthy of the sympathy and heartbreak that many fans are feeling for Crowley.
EDIT: Also, as sad/problematic it may be to abandon your life and partner, it’s just as problematic to turn a blind eye to the oppression and injustice of Heaven that, by all means, you have the ability and voice to try to do something about in pursuit of prioritizing what you want. So if we’re going to be mad at Aziraphale, we have to be mad at Crowley, too (and I’ll be disappointed if hypothetical-season-3 paints the narrative that Aziraphale is the only one in the wrong here). Personally, I’m all for not being mad at anybody. I completely understand both of their choices, and I just want them to reconcile and be compassionate to what the other is going through.

Book Crowley and Aziraphale watch The Final Fifteen:
(Thank you for the idea @sapphic-bats! This is kind of a part 2 so here’s the link to part 1)
Aziraphale: Ok, so where do we stopped?
Crowley: I think there’s only fifteen minutes left. I heard that people call it The Final Fifteen.
Aziraphale: Must be important.
Crowley: *pressing play* I really don’t know why there’s a need for the capital letter. They’re just fifteen minutes. What could be so important about fifteen minutes?
After some time…
*Crowley puts on his sunglasses*
Aziraphale: Are you crying, my dear?
Crowley: No.
Aziraphale:
Crowley:
Aziraphale:
Crowley: Maybe.
Aziraphale: *hugging him* Awww, don’t worry. I’d never leave you.
Crowley: If you ever say that to me, I’ll… I won’t be responsible for my actions.
Aziraphale: *taking off his glasses* It’s alright. You’re my friend. I’d forgive you no matter what.
Crowley:
Aziraphale:
Crowley:
Aziraphale: Crowley…
Crowley: Leave.
Aziraphale: What?
Crowley: Leave!
Aziraphale: But…
Crowley: *slamming the door* Out!
Aziraphale: *through the keyhole* Crowley, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that.
Crowley: And don’t ever come back!

alright here’s my controversial opinion no one asked for: the ending of good omens season 2 was actually really good and it feels like a solid ending. i know they’re working on getting season 3 approved but there’s just something so final about aziraphale being the one to leave crowley

Season 2 episode 6 missing scene
Ok this is what I think happened
"You idiot."
Aziraphal was finally listening to him.
"We could have been ... us"
No response came. The angel turned away to hide his face.
Crowley couldn't bear to see the anguish. He closed the gap between them and pulled Aziraphale towards him by the collar. Their lips met violently and Crowley maintained a tight grip. Through his dark lenses he could see the shock in his angel's eyes. Crowley closed his eyes and waited and hoped. The face beneath his softened and relaxed. He felt hands on his back, stroking his wings and wrapped around his waist. Tears rolled down his cheeks. The unforgivable demon was being kissed gently by an angel. He let go of the collar and slid his hands beneath Angel's coat to the silk back of his waistcoat and pulled their bodies closer.
The bookshop clocks announced the half hour.  Aziraphale abruptly broke away and and nervously glanced to the right.
"The Metatron. He's out there. Oh Crowley, you're in terrible danger. He knows everything. I need you to listen to me. Properly!"
Crowley snapped his fingers and time stopped for every being outside the bookshop.
They both took a step back. Aziraphale nervously paced on the spot, fidgety hands not knowing what to do.
"He's got the Book of Life. He can edit it and if I don't go back to Heaven with him to help he will erase you from existence."
Crowley took off his shades.
"What does he want with you Angel"
"I don't know. Gabriel ..Beelzibub,  you,  me. Its not part of the plan.
Crowley, "This Metatron,  claims to be the voice of God. We both know God has got her own voice. We've heard it. Something wrong. Something is REALLY  WRONG.. agghh sorry I can't maintain this for much longer."
Crowley fell to his knees with the effort of keeping them out of time.
Aziraphale,  "I'll  go back to heaven with him. Find out what he wants."
Crowley,  " I can't go with you. I'm not that angel anymore  and I don't want to be. Maybe, maybe. Ugh you wouldn't like it
Aziraphale,  "What?"
"Well I could, err, do a little, err (whispers) demonic possession.
"What? NO! How?
"I'm  not sure. I've never done it before. Didn't seem, well, right. But if you let me put a tiny bit of my essence within you, I can be with you. We can be one."
Aziraphale grasped Crowley by his lapels and pulled him to his feet. "I'm going to trust you." He said. "What do we do?"
"OK we do the kiss thing again, I'll do the transfer, restart time and as I believe a wise man once said "Vavoom" You'll  have  to be outraged and send me on my way."
"Ready?"

Something is definitely happening to Aziraphale in the elevator. I mean, come on. Look at his expressions. He would never make such expressions. Not to talk about the creepy smile he made, too. He wasn't smiling with his eyes, and we all know that Michael Sheen is an awesome actor and can smile with this eyes, so, in that scene, he decided to NOT do it ON PURPOSE.

Omg ew a terrible thought crossed my mind. Do you think Crowley had the courage to kiss Aziraphale because he is afraid it could have been the last chance to do so? What if he did it because he is scared Heaven is gonna wipe Aziraphale's memory just like they wanted to do with Gabriel, like...does Crowley interpret this as the final goodbye, the end to their story...????
I don't think you understand I think I understand a lot better than you do
...oh my god, he thinks he is not only losing Aziraphale but their history together...I need to sit down

Say it with me now,
Crowley is the one who left, not Aziraphale.
Aziraphale wanted Crowley to go with him, not because he wanted to return to Heaven, not because he’s traumatized and being gaslit into going back to his abusers, and not because he’s naive. He wanted to go back because he knows exactly how toxic Heaven is and if he ran away with Crowley instead of trying to dismantle that hierarchal structure of abuse, he would be a bystander. He would be choosing his own comfort above everyone else’s in the world and he WOULD NOT BE THE PERSON WHO CROWLEY FELL IN LOVE WITH!!!
What Aziraphale is doing does not make him a fool. It doesn’t make him a bad person and it DEFINITELY doesn’t give s3-era Crowley any right to reject/be furious with him given that Aziraphale asked, even BEGGED Crowley to go with him. Together. so they could help make sure no one else has to go through the trauma they both did. Crowley’s choice, while understandable, was the selfish one (especially because he got angry and made it seem like Aziraphale was going back for power, like he was an “idiot”, instead of understanding and explaining he couldn’t go with him but that that doesn’t make Aziraphale’s choice any less valid). Aziraphale was the one brave enough to risk his safety and eternal happiness because he knew it was the right thing to do. And he wasn’t the one to walk away from their relationship— Crowley was. So before we start hating on Aziraphale maybe we should reconsider what made us (and Crowley!) fall in love with him in the first place.

Credits
I don’t think we talk about the end of good omens enough. I mean we all talk about the closing scene but we NEVER talk about the CREDITS. Crowley driving away in silence like absolute silence for the FIRST TIME. And Aziraphale awkwardly standing in the lift up to heaven and the credits roll and it’s the two off them next to eachother. I mean who ever designed that well done good fellow but you have CRUSHED ME in ways I didn’t know I COULD be crushed
