Legendary tree deities (16)
Hākuturi – The avian people, the guardians of the forest
In Māori mythology, the hākuturi are guardians of the forest. They are responsible for guarding the forest, and to avenge any desecration of its sacredness. When Rātā cut down a tree without first making the proper incantations and rituals, the hākuturi rebuked him by re-erecting the tree. When he showed remorse, they felled the tree again and made it into a canoe for him in a single night, which was name Tuirangi. The hākuturi seem to have been regarded as birds or birdlike. Some believe that hākturi the children of Tāne (Ref), god of the forest and ancestor of birds.

Ogopogo Brewing Hakuturi DDH Hazy Double IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. Lots of really bright tropical fruit notes here in a very thick and creamy body. Really pushes the boundaries of this style and has a ton to like -- nice complex hop profile, quite drinkable, and some juicy sweetness throughout the body, but remains well-balanced.

In Māori mythology, the hākuturi are guardian spirits of the forest. They are often said to appear as birds, or at least resemble birds, and some call them the children of Tāne, the god of birds and the forest.
The hākuturi diligently protect the forest, and will avenge any damage or degradation done to their sacred home. One famous tale tells how Rātā, the grandson of Tāwhaki, cut down a tree, only for the hākuturi to put it up again. When Rātā showed remorse, the hākuturi felled the tree once again and made it into a canoe for him.

SAER MADDOX / 949 YEARS OLD / CARPENTER / FERNCOMBE
FULL NAME:
Saer Maddox
BIRTHDAY:
15 August, 1068
SPECIES:
He is a Te-Tini and Ponaturi but all he has of the Ponaturi is a bad attitude and dark black eyes when he wants them.
AREA OF RESIDENCE:
He doesn’t live in a house since it burnt down, but he lives in the rubble of the blackened house in the forest and is often seen wandering aimlessly with soot from the house covering him, which adds more to the idea that he is a demon.
BIOGRAPHY: (tw:  death, murder)
Saer was born to a Ponaturi and a Te-Tini faerie in 1068, he doesn’t know his exact birthday but he knows “it was somewhere in late spring.” He doesn’t remember much of growing up, but he remembered that his parents didn’t ever let he or his siblings go without anything they needed. They were the wealthiest in the village in terms of what they had, they had enough for each of their children to have their own room, but often they would all sleep in the same room to huddle up and keep warm. The first of their children was killed when the cold got into her lungs and she passed slowly and painfully while the Patu were nowhere to be seen, because they were, at that point, fighting with his parents over some dispute about land. After this, they repaired what had been broken between them and the peace was once again restored to the village. Saer however was not one for this, and the dark traits that he picked up from his parents began to pull through, he spent a lot of time harming people who he saw as friends, like it was the only way he knew to show some kind of affection.
Saer needed to get away from his home at twelve, so he went and built himself a small hut in the middle of the forest, the rest of his siblings had mostly moved away, but he was the one that went furthest away from their family. He became very quiet and worked on feeding himself every day, fighting away those who came before him and tried to take what he had. Slowly though, he began to open his hut to people who needed it, however this was full of a darker idea, he quite often captured women with the intention of sleeping with them whether with or without permission. He started to see himself as some kind of god, but the more and more he let women in, the more he found himself growing fond of certain ones, and finally he let himself love someone, mostly vowing off other women in favor of one who seemed just as dark and depraved as he was. They would often lure people to their hut in order to harm them or kill them. Saer and Lilith were a law unto themselves.
After awhile of doing this the elders intervened, they couldn’t keep doing what they were, and the pair of them fell into some kind of depression, they began to take it out on each other, harming themselves with each other and finding ways to cause the other pain while laughing about it. One day it was taken too far and Lilith passed away from the injuries he had caused, he hated knowing that he was the cause of what had become of Lilith. He fell into one of the deepest depressions that he had felt in a long time, he became a shadow of himself and he went back home, where his mother nursed him back to health and his father spent a lot of time confused as to why he even needed to come back home. But his mother insisted that he was in much more need of her love because when he was young he didn’t have as much of it, and she was sure that was why he turned out the way he had so far.
By the time he left his family he was thirty years old and ready to do something different, he needed to get away from his home, far away, he took off on a trek, walking throughout the land and finding out more about himself, remembering who he was and what exactly he had done, unfortunately he found more questions than answers and ended up getting even darker than he had done when he was with Lilith, now the further he wandered, the more people he found to kill, the deaths of people around him invited all of his demons to take him over, he was a serial killer already and his body count was only ever growing despite Saer trying to remember who he was in the good times, all he could think about was all of the bad.
Once again he found himself coming home, but home was full of pain and heartbreak, he came home to find a band of rogue supernaturals had killed almost everyone in the village he once called home, however one thing changed him, amongst the rubble of what was once his home he found the same eyes staring back at him, a very new baby sister had somehow avoided all of the carnage of what had happened and it made him feel so much lighter than he had in a long time. Beside her was a note explaining that she was his sister and her name was Lylywyn and he needed to take care of her, because they didn’t know if they would survive, however she had a spell cast over her from a far more powerful fae and she was protected from whatever had befallen the family.
He spent a long time trying to rebuild what had been broken about his personality and for years he spent time teaching his little sister all that she would ever need to know, he felt like for once since Lilith he was turning into what he should have been. Lylywyn had been the best thing that  had happened to him and he stood firm beside that belief, he very quickly became one of the ones that replaced the elders as he was proving himself to be very good at remembering how to be a faerie that looked after those of his kind. He would fight any supernatural that tried to get in and do the same thing that had happened before, he became known for being fiercely protective of anyone in the village and would often be seen fighting off those who came too close.
Years went by, new colonies were formed, New Zealand was born, people began settling into different places and he still fought off those who came too close or settled too much. He still wouldn’t let anything happen. By this time he was over eight hundred and he and his sister had been living happily. Things had changed people were making new settlements, there were new kinds of technology, and along with that came new heartache, he had fallen for a European woman who came to settle in their town during the gold rush, her parents approved of their union, but when he confessed to her what he was she didn’t understand, instead of letting him explain it to her, she ran, falling in love with, and marrying another who was in the gold boom. A few years later he heard about her death in a mine when she was taking food to her husband and the mine collapsed, he started going to her grave each year on the anniversary of her death.
Over the years Saer became a little more distant, sticking to he and his sister, living in the home she now shared with her husband and their children. He wanted to remember what love felt like and he fell in love once more, with a woman who was the direct opposite of him, the mixture she had was Patu and Pake. They were married and conceived their first child in the same year, 1877 marked the year the very first Mataku was born, the pair of them knew almost immediately that something was different with this child, she wasn’t the same, they didn’t share the same bond with her, and the more children they had, they all turned out very similar, with different adaptations of light within them.
Years passed again and by the time he was nine hundred and thirty he had fifty children, all of them were the beginning of a different species. More people with the mix they had began having children, and the Mataku had begun having their own children, and after years, the species were that of their own.
A few months ago, when he was making the trip to his beloved European woman’s grave to once again talk to her about what had happened since the year before he found himself hurting, struck with the need to get home. By the time he got there his forest was ablaze, his sister, wife, brother-in-law and few of his and his sister’s children had perished in the blaze, the darkness he had felt for so long came screaming back to the forefront of his mind, and he remembered once again why he never let himself fall in love or be happy for so long.
PERSONALITY:
Saer has a very dark personality to begin with, if he was to describe his personality in modern terms he would say bi-polar, but without the quick turn around, he will have days or months when something will be a happy day, but his dark times can last months, if not years, though certain things can bring him back from that precipice of falling into the darkness. He can remember the times when he was happy and that’s very much was drives some of his anger because he wants to be happy but thinks the happiness he used to have is very much unattainable.
He doesn’t value human life very much and is always one to say that the humans are to blame for almost everything. He prefers to be alone but often finds himself growing attached to certain people especially if they are of his species, however some of the darker angrier supernaturals he finds himself avoiding for the most part, not wanting to be left in the same situation when his sister was so cruelly taken from him.
Saer is unique in that if he focuses in on a conversation hard enough he can see black smoke billowing around someone who is lying, but he has to focus in when he wants to see it, he cannot be speaking in a conversation and see it, but he still tries to hold a decent conversation anyway.

I've been really interested in Weta lately and I've been trying to find folk stories or mythology that involves it. I don't know if it doesn't exist or maybe it's because I only know english but can't find anything. I know they're from New Zealand so I was hoping that you might know something
In answering this I’m going to assume you mean the insects and not the visual effects and design companies, though both are cool. If not, this answer is going to be super weird.
Honestly, I have no idea about this stuff off the top of my head, and also only speak English, though you got me curious so I did a bit of a google.
I managed to find a few stories involving insects (they are here) though weta aren’t always specifically mentioned. It turns out that Whiro, the god of the underwold, had a great army of birds and insects, which does specifically include weta. However, in a conflict with his brother Tane, the god of the forest, Tane kidnapped his army of creatures, and took them down to earth to live among the rivers and forests.
The insects and birds were then charged with protecting the forests and making sure the proper customs were followed, and the land and trees were given the respect that deserve.
There is a story of a man named Rata who, upon chopping down a tree to create a canoe, failed to recite the proper words beforehand. Therefore, when he left for the day, the creatures raised the tree up once more. The following day he felled the tree once more, and once more  ‘Te Tini o Hakuturi’ (which refers to the insects birds and woodland sprites) raised the tree up.
Rata became angry and accused them of meddling in his work. They replied, asking him what right he had to fell a forest god? He was then so overcome with shame he fled back to his village. Te Tini o Hakuturi said that because he had shown remorse, they would build him a beautiful Waka.
Basically, it’s a story about the importance of respect and conducting oneself properly.
Thank you for this ask, it gave me a lovely excuse to dive into some these stories I haven’t had reason to read since I was a little kid.
This was super long and rambly, I’m sorry, but I hope it was at least somewhat useful.

Who is the Weakest and who is the most Powerful?
Here are all my common (so not unique or boss monsters) monsters collected in groups, but the catch this time is that they are collected from weakest (of each group) to strongest/most dangerous of each group.
So for example in the human group the Buckrider is the weakest member, the Raktabija is the most dangerous and powerful. It is very messy and many monsters probably must be switched around, but it is VERY hard to come up with just the right order of least powerful -> most powerful! The strongest and weakest are mostly correct, I made sure of that!

Camping Trip Event || Tramping
Hey, so like, there’s an ancient magical kingdom up in the woods.
Tumblr media
Which, if you pay any attention in my damn lectures you’d probably know about already. But seeing as you’re all blank-faced let me explain.
Lore
Very few know when this Kingdom came into existence - rumors stretch anywhere from a couple thousand years ago back to the very beginning of our planet. There is only one person who knows for sure, the Queen, and she’s not coughing up any answers.
Most people believe that the Kingdom was created from what we’d probably call the ‘refugees’ of the magical world, a mish-mash of different species that couldn’t fit in anywhere else, banding together to create a community where they would be able to thrive.
Tumblr media
However, the officially documented history of the Kingdom only begins at the tide of the War - y’know, the one your Headmistress and like...I fought in. Hoards of faeries, pakepakeha, and even your occasional te-tini-o-hakuturi, defended our cause and our rights; creating the world that you lot are lucky to be living in today.
About the Folk
As much as they would prefer to be called “Pakepakeha” they probably won’t slit your throats if you call them “Faeries”.
Tumblr media
Standing at a modest stature of about two to three feet, with an incredibly slight figure to match, they don’t exactly stand out. It most certainly does not help that their skin is very much camouflaged, ranging from the faintest hues of pale green to the richest shades of golden brown. Each pakepakeha is different, but it should be noted that the majority of them tend to take on a rather pale complexion, similar to that of bone.
Their wing-span isn’t particularly large either, appearing to be similar to that of your common butterfly - although each wing is unique. The pakepakeha pride themselves in their wings. Even though they may be gorgeous do not touch their wings. They will not enjoy that.
About the Queen
The Queen of the Pakepakeha is a mysterious woman, who definitely stands out in a crowd.
Tumblr media
No one really knows anything about her, other than the fact that she’s not from any race that we’ve seen before. Even I’ve never come across someone or just something that looks anything like her.
In comparison to the majority of her subjects, the Queen is massive, towering over even humans at a height of seven feet tall. Everything about her is exaggerated and regal - from her hugely pointed cheekbones, knee-length hair swathed in perpetually blooming flowers, to her ginormous wings which measure up to about the same length as her height.

hakuturi
Alex landed with a soft thump onto the ground. One of less graceful landings after teleporting. She stood up and brushed herself off, subconsciously checking the charm around her neck while she let out a large yawn. The small circle of string was once again around her neck and warm, indicating that it was recently in use.
As she looked around, however, she noticed something was... off. This wasn't her destination, or at least not one she had planed. Her arms dropped and she looked around in more detail. This is probably what she got for trying to go home while tired...

TANE KAITANGATA / 176 YEARS OLD / HUNTER/TRADER/HEALER  / FERNCOMBE
FULL NAME:
Tane Mahuta Kaitangata
BIRTHDAY:
29 May 1840
SPECIES:
Faerie - Te-Tini-O-Hakuturi
AREA OF RESIDENCE:
Ferncombe, in an impossibly old cabin just a few steps into the forest. It is within a line of sight to Tallulah Saxton’s cabin, but there is enough distance between the two to offer privacy.
OCCUPATION:
Tane is self-employed, and makes a living selling or trading food and other goods that he hunts, gathers, or grows at his home on the edge of the forest. He’s also something of a healer and apothecary, using a combination of his own magic and tinctures made from wild plants to treat sickness and injury. He trusts only himself to do this work as many others who set foot in the forest tend to disrespect the rules of his people.
BIOGRAPHY:
It was 1840 when a few (misguided) Maori tribes signed the Treaty of Waitangi, making New Zealand a part of the British Empire and opening the door to colonists who had previously been poking around the island, upsetting the faeries and other native races. Chief among the opposition to this new agreement were Tane’s own parents, a pair of fierce and ancient Te-Tini-O-Hakuturi that were known for their rather savage tactics of chasing off colonists and other humans from their sacred forest. Years earlier, they had enthusiastically participated in an incident against European sailors of the ship Boyd, in which 60 or 70 colonists were killed and eaten. And since then, they had been known to all as the Kaitangatas, the man-eaters, a name which they also bestowed upon their only son, born not long after the signing of the Treaty in 1840.
Tane was raised as a fearsome warrior, bound to protect their sacred forest and kill on sight any foolish colonist that dared set foot inside. And for a while, he knew no better. He and his parents guarded their territory for years alongside many other Te-Tini. And while they weren’t in the regular practice of eating people, their notorious surname reminded colonists and other supernaturals alike that they were not to be trifled with. But the colonists continued to come, and in larger and larger numbers. His parents continued to violently oppose the efforts of the colonists, fighting against them in the New Zealand Wars from about 1845 until their deaths in 1864. Tane was still relatively young when it happened, and he was on the battlefield with them when they were killed by musket fire from a line of European troops. Being pretty gravely injured himself, he chose to retreat to the forest among a group of other Te-Tini, who then tended to each other’s wounds. He still bears scars from this battle.
It was in this group that he found a sort of second family, a resolute community of fighters determined to drive the Europeans out by any means necessary. But from them he also learned of kindness, gentleness, and mercy. He developed his healing abilities, defended those too weak to fight, supported orphans and others who could not easily fight or gather food for themselves, and he found that he was much happier. Even with the encroaching threat of the colonists, he found peace in communion with his fellow Te-Tini, and even some other supernatural creatures that they worked with. He became extremely warm in this period, and the blood soaked into his name, Kaitangata, began to steep away into the surrounding waters. Eventually, the colonists won. And countless numbers of his kin, both Te-Tini and otherwise, had fallen under their oppressive fists. But rather than continue to fight a losing battle, Tane decided to defend what was most important to him- the forest. For years, he lived in the house of his family just at the edge of it. He watched the colonists, and chased away anyone who came too near. The particularly troublesome ones he disposed of, when he had to. But Tane was no longer a man who went out seeking blood. His time communing with other faeries, especially his own people, had attuned him to the abundant nurturing and healing energies of his forest. And he wanted to do right by his land- to be a caretake rather than just a soldier. To sow good seeds, encourage the growth of strong trees, and pull out the suffocating weeds when they threatened to choke out that natural beauty and abundance of his forest.
After a time, Tane found himself more or less alone after many of his treasured second family of Te-Tini were killed or scared away in other skirmishes. But all the while he remained in his house in the forest, a vigilant guard to her safekeeping. As the years passed, he grew more understanding, more adaptive to the new world as it grew. Humans continued to come (for they couldn’t be called colonists anymore, that time had long passed), and while he could never truly accept or trust them he did reach a kind of understanding with them. Many he would guide through the woods if they were ever lost, making sure that they followed the sacred rules of his people, and of the forest herself. He trapped game for them, and told them which plants to eat, and made them medicines; and in this way, he grew to be tolerant of them. He still prefers the company of any other supernatural creature to that of a human, reasoning that even the darkest and foulest among them at least have natural claim to the land. But he is Tane the Man-Eater no more.
In early 1960, Tane came across a Mataku girl gravely injured in his woods. He had felt her, bleeding into the moss and the fingerling streams of the forest, and had felt a stirring need to find her, which he did just in time to prevent her death. With his healing magic, he stopped her bleeding and closed her grievous wounds; and he carried her back to his own home to look after her. She slept for what seemed like ages, and he studied her. Already, he could feel the Greyness of her seeping into her skin like cold water, chilling her. He wasn’t certain she would ever be warm again, and for this reason he pitied her. He could see her slow march towards Blackness playing out before him already, and he knew the fate of those who ventured too far. But he was surprised to find when she awoke that there was a brightness to her still. She reminded him of dappled sunlight streaming through the trees of his forest, playing on the water of shallow creeks, dancing in his eyes. She loved the forest almost as much as he did, and as she took her time recovering, he began to fall in love with her. She never spoke of the attack that left her near death in his forest, and in fact whenever the subject was approached she became cold and sad again, all light and mirth gone from her, like a flower wilting. He quickly learned to avoid the subject. He taught her everything he knew, as these things were taught to him by his own tribe- how to hunt and forage, how to mix medicines, how to hide and defend herself when she needed to. She wanted to learn everything. And that was how he came to understand her inevitable approach to Blackness. There was nothing she didn’t want to learn, even when it came to the magics of forbidden elements. And although it frightened him to watch, his love for her stayed his hand and his tongue on the subject.
They were together for years, but she didn’t respond to his feelings for her until their very last together. It was early 1969 when they finally made love for the first time, and he promised to guard her forever, as fiercely as he defended his forest. Whatever had come after her before, he said, stood no chance against him, or his love for her. He had mistaken the dark sadness in her eyes then for something else, had assumed it was her memories hurting her, and not his words. But for whatever reason, she was gone only months later, without a word. It ruined him at first. He went looking for her in the woods, and even returned to the place he had found her, where all manner of flowers had sprung up from the hollow her body had made on the forest floor all those years ago… But he did not find her, and eventually a day came to pass when he realized if he kept looking for her, he would never stop looking. And he had no way of knowing if she even wanted to be found by him, or if he would even like what he found of her. So, he returned to his cabin and mended his broken heart the only way he could, by living as if nothing had changed.
But the forest and his people would always need defending. More recently, there was a young Te-Tini-O-Hakuturi couple he had known since they were themselves babes, who had a child and moved into a house close to his own at the edge of the forest. They were a joy to watch and to be close to, and he often communed with them as he did his people many years ago in the midst of war. They were special to him as any close family member would be… and then all of a sudden their lives were snuffed out in one awful night; their child left parentless. Tane had gone to the Elder Council himself and asked if he could have her, raise her close to her parents’ home and in the ways of the oldest Te-Tini. But, for whatever reason, he was denied. One Elder in particular told him that Suppression was the way they had always done things, and that it was how they would continue to be done. And this Elder himself came to collect the child, Suppressed her, and sent her off to a family in Australia in need of a daughter. Tane was devastated by this development, but he agreed to keep watch over her family’s house in the hope that she would one day return to it, and to her legacy, which he was determined to teach her. As it turned out, he didn’t have to wait too long, at least not by his standards…
When Tallulah Saxton first returned to Echo Valley, Tane at first thought he was imagining things. But his heart and his Te-Tini blood told him otherwise. She had found her way back somehow, despite knowing nothing of this place or her real family. He was so overjoyed, he had to stop himself from going to her immediately and telling her everything. But as old as he was he knew that these things could not be forced. So, since then, he has been biding his time, waiting for her to come to him, or for a more appropriate time to approach her. He can’t wait to share everything he knows with her, and make her a Te-Tini of his ilk; strong, fearsome, and protective of their forest, and yet also merciful to the weak and injured, and nurturing of all growing things.
PERSONALITY:
There is a part of Tane still deeply rooted in the old ways of his tribe. The Te-Tini have always been known as proud and fearsome defenders of their sacred forest, and it is no different with him. He carries with him every day the legacy of blood his parents fought so hard for. And while he is no longer a vicious man himself, he certainly can be made that way again. He has grown sympathetic to travelers and other foolish humans who mistakenly wander into the woods, but those who disrespect or desecrate his home will see little mercy. These days, he tends to give people the benefit of the doubt- he will help anyone he comes across that is in need of it, but the moment their behavior turns sour he has no trouble punishing them in whatever way he sees fit. He has burned and blinded those who refused to respect the ancient ways, and some he has even killed. But this he saves for the most offensive among them, and he uses their bodies to feed the forest they insulted. He can be easy to anger, but as he has fashioned himself into a kind of mentor for others, he tries to be patient and understanding, especially to other supernaturals he shares this island with as a rightful inhabitant. He has the least patience for humans, and he isn’t afraid to show it.
In general, he speaks little or not at all to humans, and in a gruff voice when he absolutely must. He’s known in town among the humans he trades with as a sort of an old curmudgeon (they don’t know just how old he is of course), perhaps a bit crazy, and a wild man- he doesn’t rely on any modern technologies, and for the most part he doesn’t need or want them. He’s content to live undisturbed in his little cabin on the edge of the forest. To other faeries, especially Te-Tini, he is warm and welcoming. His gruff voice booms with mirth, and he often cooks for guests, which he greatly enjoys. He could likely cook in a restaurant if he had a mind to, but he prefers the more intimate company of his own family, in his own home. His food is quite good, and he would never disrespect the plants and animals sacrificed to make it by tainting the meal with any unworthy ingredients, or poisons. This makes his food some of the safest to accept from a stranger, likely on the entire island. Even unwelcome guests or humans recovered from the forest may wake up to the delectable, savory smells of his food on their doorstep, or at the side of their bed if they’re recovering in his house. He understands that people need food, and he does his best to provide it so that others won’t disrespect his forest by going about getting it in the wrong way.
Unlike many other faeries, Tane doesn’t mind the presence or company of other supernaturals. Having once loved a Mataku girl, he bears no ill will towards them, although he does of course avoid dealing with the Black ones if he can. He prefers the company of Merfolk and Selkies to Sirens or Kelpies, but will aid or commune with any of them, as he considers them as much a part of this land as his own people. He gets along with any kind of faerie, but prefers the company of his own people the Te-Tini, above all else. He quite enjoys interacting with the Patupaiarehe, the Air folk, but sometimes doesn’t get along well with the Pakepakeha and the Ponaturi. Still, he makes an effort to commune with any and all that need his help, even people he doesn’t like personally. He’s the type of man who will grumble and complain about how stupid you were to break your arm, all the while mending it for you with no expectation of gratitude or recompense.
And due to his age, he tends not to take what the Elder Council has to say too seriously. He knows the rules, and he follows them, for the most part- he doesn’t expose his magic or his true nature to humans, he protects his forest, he deals with other supernaturals politely and helps them when they require it. For all else, he expects to be left alone and not have his business meddled in. He may still harbor some resentment towards them for Suppressing that Te-Tini girl all those years ago… but she’s back now, and he’s going to make the most of her return to empower not only her, but their people at large. He wants to see the land return to the Fair Folk who were always meant to rule it. Right now, he can live peacefully with the humans, but the glory of those old days his parents fought for still glows deep inside him, and he wants more than anything to do right by them, and by his tribe, the Te-Tini-O-Hakuturi.

"Pheonix! Pheonix, where the hell did you go off to?" Aster shouted through some shrubbery. She was on a walk with her pet hedgehog when it suddenly got startled and ran into some bushes. She had been crawling around for a while, but her pet was nowhere to be found. She rose to her feet scanning the area around her closely when a small figure flashed into her vision on the opposite side of a large field in front of an ancient mansion. She squinted at the object, seeing pointy quills shaking on tiny feet dashing around. She ran after it towards the unnerving estate. An odd sense came to her, she blinked and when she opened her eyes she was in the middle of a total jungle. Her eyes bulged out at the tropical plants and trees, it felt as if she was in another world. She heard a small scurry and used her powers to push away some of the leaves and plants at her feet. "Pheonix! There you are, princess!" She reached down and picked her off the ground. "I feel like we shouldn't be here, how should we get out?" she asked, looking around the dense growth.

A couple more new/updated creatures from my lists and some small descriptions.
Acheri (Hindu) – I use these Hindu creatures as faeries which bring and spread plagues and other diseases, they have the special ability to enhance any disease, making creatures even more sick when they are around.
Buruburu (Japanese) – You only encounter Buruburu ghosts when you flee from a battle. These spirits of cowardice will hunt down any creature which behaves cowardly.
Cerastes, Sierpa (N-American) – Bigger, more poisonous variants of the Cerastes, these desert horrors resemble giant rattlesnakes which rattle will cause exhaustion and which poison will cause extreme thirst in its victims, the thirst can become so bad that a victim will drink Its own blood out of pure desperation.
Tumblr media
Codrille, Taniniver (Israel) – When a Codrille dies it will automatically raise as a terrible undead dragon, the vile diseases inside a Codrille will cause the corpse to auto-resurrect. Taniniver are the favorite aerial mounts of powerful undead and they are also wanted by the Horseman of Pestilence.
Tumblr media
Dodomeki (Japanese) – Cursed human thieves, these mostly female creatures have arms which are covered in eyes, both a curse and a blessing the eyes serve the sneaky nature of the Dodomeki right as they gain all-around vision. Dodomeki are still humans, but they have better reflexes, can move silently and have eyes growing randomly around their bodies. Some think that they gain one eye for each item they steal, but this isn’t known as a fact.
Tumblr media
Gegenees, Futsunushi (Japanese) – When an Oni spirit enters and corrupts a Gegenees, the result will be a Futsunushi. These resemble six armed giants with demonic features, and unlike the normal Gegenees which mostly use their fists in combat, the Futsunushi uses exotic and magical weapons. They dance into combat, being able to dance around the battlefield as a force of destruction. They have the magical ability to enhance any weapon they touch, giving them magical properties. Their aura’s will also empower melee attacks of other allied monsters.
Tumblr media
Gu (Chinese) – Bizarre elementals, Gu are poison/venom/toxic elementals created from the poison of many types of creatures. They are very hard to kill as they will poison everything that touches them and they are made from only liquid poison and venom. They are not very intelligent though and are mostly controlled by the creatures that created them, mostly Vish Kanya.
Hannya (Japanese) – Animated Masks which want to find a suitable host so they can take over their lives. Hannya are very envious and vain though, and often attack other pretty humans/humanoids with their new found bodies. In the game you have to defeat a Hannya twice, you first have to beat the corrupted human body, then the mask which tries to possess your party members.
Tumblr media
Hannya, Menreiki (Japanese) – A swarm of animated masks which all resemble some type of expression/emotion, these swarms want to be worn by humanoids or monsters so they can “bless” these hosts with their given emotion. This can be good or bad, but it is mostly bad as the masks don’t take no for an answer. They mostly want to create a theater-play with their hosts. I’m not really sure yet how this plays out in the game itself.
Harpy, Lechuza (Mexican) – I changed Lechuza around, now they are owl-like harpies which can transform into the form of ugly (feather-wearing) old crones or into giant owls. Lechuza are the hags of avians/birds, they can summon all types of avian-beasts to serve them and also enhance the abilities of the avians so they become more powerful. They can also use the spell silence.
Hongaek, Bisha Ga Tsuku (Japanese) – Bisha Ga Tsuku are now mist and ice elementals. They are mist creatures which capture victims in their cold foggy bodies and freeze their victims to death, after this they devour their souls. The souls of their victims can be seen inside the cold mist, trying to get out.
Jba Fofi, Pasuk (African) – Small, magical spiders which often serve magic-users as familiars. They spit poisonous, sticky silk-balls at their victims and can cast various spells.
Tumblr media
Krojemanchen (Luxemburg) – These bizarre water bogey’s can teleport though any source of water, appearing from wells, lakes, streams, the sea or inside somebody’s bathtub. They appear as green-skinned old men with dirty beards made from sea-plants.
Kurage Hinotama, Sandewan (African) – These brightly colored red jellyfish horrors hover over land. They drain all the blood of their victims or from corpses. Often, too much blood is drained from a victim and then the Sandewan leaves a trail of blood behind it which other carnivorous creatures will follow until they become the next victim of the bloody jellyfish.
Tumblr media
Malebete (French) – Magical fey bears which mostly hunt for other fey-creatures, they hate beauty and are probably created/corrupted by hags which often share this hate. Malebete can turn into a statue-form and drain beauty/charisma around them. In the game these horrid bears will do extra damage to most fey-creatures, nymphs and gnomes, but they will do less damage to hags, bogey’s and trolls, though those are also fey.
Tumblr media
Marmajor (Spanish) – These are horrifying, large and evil bogey’s which use the corpses of humanoids (mostly children) as marionette-like puppets to lure new victims into their claws. Their backs are full of corpses and puppets, and they use the sinews of their victims as strings. Even other evil creatures evade these monstrosities.
Tumblr media
Motelo Mama, Usilosimapundu (African) – The biggest creature in the game, Usilosimapundu are gigantic tortoise-like creatures made mostly from the earth itself. They can lay dormant for centuries before some earthquake or disturbance wakes them from their slumber and they go on a rampage. Some scholars call these beings living natural disasters.
Musimon, Wether (M-European) – The giant ram-creatures called Musimon are very attractive for a parasitic worm called Furia. Furia will animate the corpses of Musimon after they are killed or when they die into undead monstrosities, these new born undead rams are called Wether. While from a distance the Wether looks like a normal Musimon, from close range you spot its undead nature and the Furia-worms which seems to crawl from the huge wounds in its head. Wether are very violent and aggressive creatures, attacking anything in sight spare for other undead, for which they often serve as mounts or living battering rams.
Nishi (Bengali) – These bizarre sound elementals are invisible, they are creatures created from nothing but sound and melodies. Very hard to destroy, the Nishi can become any sound they heard and also control their own volumes. A Nishi is born from the final screech of a dying person. Nishi’s work much like Will o Wisps, but instead of light they use sounds to lure victims into dangerous area’s or situations from which they can’t easily escape.
Oread, Orco Mamman (Argentinean) – Beautiful, golden haired nymphs which silvery skins glitter in the sun’s rays. Orco Mamman are the elemental nymphs of metals, they even have weak magnetic abilities to help them in combat. Orco Mamman are friendly with most dragon species and are often found guarding or hoarding a dragons treasures. I’m going a bit for the model of Grendels Mother in the Beowulf animated movie, played by Angelina Jolie.
Tumblr media
Osakoburi (Japanese) – Still animated Helmets in my project, but they no long possess their victims, instead they want to be worn by other creatures to give the creatures boosts in strength, creatures that wear an Osakoburi become much more powerful.
Tumblr media
Phoenix, Hakuturi (Australian) – These green phoenix variants can re-grow plants and speed up the growth of plants and nature. Where Hakuturi live the forests are full of plants with almost no paths. Cutting down plants will infuriate a Hakuturi and after they re-grow their plants they will attack the one responsible. When killed the Hakuturi will reincarnate into a small patch of forest, seeds will grow in this newly grown forest from which new Hakuturi spawn.
Poltergeist, Isogashi (Japanese) – Bizarre, hyperactive spirits which will possess the bodies of random creatures and make them work till they die. Isogashi in my project can possess both enemies and your own heroes. The speed of a possessed victim is increased, but every time a possessed creature attacks they will be exhausted and gain damage, so the blessing eventually becomes a curse. Isogashi are the spirits from people who died during work or with many tasks left unfinished, they are related to the Poltergeist.
Tumblr media
Sakabashira (Japanese) – One of the most bizarre Tsukumogami. Sakabashira appear as obelisks or pillars with a single upside-down stone head on it. They are created when a magic-user dies next to a obelisk, and his/her spirit will corrupt the obelisk. These creatures have many bizarre abilities, like electric aura’s, chain lightings and the ability to attract spirits to its location and turn spirits temporary corporeal so they can attack victims physically for as long as they are next to the Sakabashira.
Shadhawar, Amdusias (Demonology) – Very beautiful and magical unicorns related to the much smaller Shadhawars. Amdusias are named after a Demon Lord, but they look very differently. Amdusias use their magical horns to control the sounds around them, turning them louder or making them disappear into nothing, they have many bizarre powers over sound. Their aura’s also create random sounds, making it very hard for other creatures to be around them for long. Amdusias are fiendish Unicorns which mostly reside in the Abyss.
Skinwalker, Nanaue (N-American) – These are much like other skinwalkers, but instead of wearing an animal-pelt they have a sharks-maw on their backs. They automatically transform into the forms of sharks when they submerge in water.
Tumblr media
Sphinx, Lammasu (Sumerian) – While many people would think of the Lammasu as holy, kind beings, the truth is somewhat more complicated. Lammasu adore, serve and worship mostly themselves and view themselves as god-like beings. They rarely attack first and are very friendly towards creatures which give them offerings and which pray to them, but they are extremely hostile towards beings which don’t treat them with the respect they think they deserve. Lammasu talk mostly about themselves and their many deeds, this often gets annoying pretty fast for folks which aren’t interested in serving them. Lammasu appear as male sphinxes and their hair is always worn in impossible complicated styles.
Tumblr media
Squonk (Fearsome Critter) – Created from the tears of creatures with loads of self pity, these bizarre water elementals are literally drowning themselves in sadness and self pity. Like the Raiju these elementals can take solid forms, in the case of the Squonk however this is a very ugly form, combining the parts of mostly very ugly creatures such as pigs, they are always found crying over something. While not hostile, they can be very annoying and often drag other creatures into their world of sadness and pity.
Tamanous (N-American) – Human cannibals which feed on the flesh of extremely evil individuals may be cursed into the forms of a Tamanous. They appear mostly human, but their blood is much like tar, they can spit black tar at their victims and enemies, and they leak tar from their feet, leaving tarry footprints. Their sweat is also like this sticky tarry substance, they use this to create cocoons around their victims so they can’t easily escape.
Tanuki, Azeban (N-American) – Related to the Tanuki, these small humanoid raccoons love to steal things from their victims and then sell it again to others. When you beat a Azeban in combat they will open their shops for you (on the battlefield) and offer you their wares. You can choose to buy something from them or to kill them, you won’t get their wares for free when you kill them though...
Tumblr media
Terra-Cotta, Dogu (Japanese) – Small clay statues, these function as bad-status-effect magnets, if you want to curse, or lower the stats of enemies and there is a Dogu on the battle-screen, they will absorb all the nasty effects (not poison though) into themselves, keeping all other monsters immune to such stat-lowering effects until the Dogu is destroyed. When destroyed the Dogu will release random stat-lowering effects onto your heroes.
Tiyanak, Myling (Finnish) – Undead tots, who at first don’t appear to be undead, until they trick you into piggyback games, then they will crush their victims by increasing their own gravity. Mylings have the power to increase or decrease their own gravity, turning extremely heavy or very light so they can float.
Tumblr media
Uay-Cot (Mayan) – Bizarre bogey’s which live inside the walls of old houses, castles or other buildings and which pull their victims into the walls so they can feed on them. Very little information is known about them and they should be avoided at all cost.
Urcututo (Peru) – Large magical owls which mostly serve as familiars to Lechuza or other magic-using creatures. They enhance the magical abilities of their masters.
Urcututo, Penchapechi (Bengali) – Giant owl monsters which can become incorporeal at will, shifting between their fleshy forms and their ghostly form at a blink of the eyes. They are masters in hunting and stalking, ignoring any obstacle in their ways and becoming corporeal when they are behind their prey. They can also turn the victims/allies they hold in their claws incorporeal and tear out souls/spirits from their victims.
Ushabti (Egyptian) – Often found near tombs and graves, these protective stony golems are often decorated like the pharaohs or important people which corpse they protect. Like a iron maiden they can open up their stony bodies and crush a victim to pulp.
Yamabiko (Japanese) – While these creatures look cute and innocent they have powerful magical abilities over sound. Yamabiko can copy any sound-based abilities and magic used against it and then use it against their enemies. They are the embodiment of echo.
Yamabiko, Mimick (M-European) – Related to the Yamabiko, but instead of sound the Mimick copies the physical abilities of their enemies and use their own abilities against them.
Yeti, Yowie (Australian) – Very feral relatives of the Yeti, the yowie is covered in wild, stinky red hairs. They are humanoid marsupials and they carry their young inside special pouches located on their bellies. Yowie are born aggressive and attack victims with stones or sticks from the safely of their parents pouch. These creatures also have an awful stench hanging around them, which will sicken most creatures that smell it.
Yeti, Genderuwo (Indonesian) – Another species of Yeti/Sasquatch, the Genderuwo are extremely big (think King Kong) and powerful. They keep humans as toys and often don’t even realize their toys are actually living things which have feelings and pain. When they are done playing or when they accidently kill their “toys” they often eat them or throw them away for scavengers to devour.
Zlatorog, Bocanach (Irish) – While most Zlatorog are calm and neutral creatures, the Bocanach is always evil. These black mountain goats have huge silver horns, hooves and tails and around their necks they have magical lanterns in which they harvest the souls of their victims. Bocanach often appear on battlefields, collecting the souls of the dying, they are attracted to misery, war and death. Like their Zlatorog cousins, the Bocanachs blood will spawn flowers, in the case of the Bocanach though, this blood will spawn poisonous purple flowers which cause hatred and anger into anyone which smells them.
Zmey, Azi Dahaka (Persian) – Related to the Zmey, but instead of being based on the 7 sins, the Azi Dahaka are more based on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, each of their three heads hold their own apocalypse power, one of their heads is about war, one of death and one of famine. Their blood will spawn diseased vermin and when you are finally being able to bring down a Azi Dahaka their corpse will spawn swarms of stinging, biting and crawling bugs and insects. Azi Dahaka serve ALL Horsemen of the Apocalypse equally, they are among their favorite minions.
Zombie, Gaki (Japanese) – Spawn from very greedy and gluttonous people, the Gaki are cursed into undead forms, looking horrifying and pathetic at the same time, yet being very much feared by most other creatures for their appetites. When there isn’t prey available the Gaki feeds on dirt, earth or even stones. Gaki can’t touch treasures and when they do they will burn themselves with horrid pain. Their bloated bellies often explode, but then magically repair themselves again only to explode when they are full again.
Tumblr media
Zombie, Lagahoo (Caribbean) – A strange zombie variant with a giant magical coffin on its back from which all kinds of arms try to escape. These zombies summon other undead from their coffins, which only stops when they are destroyed.

Zombie, Legion (Demonology) – A very dangerous form of zombie, the Legion is a living army of zombies, all crawling onto and over each other so they look like they are a single being. While they are created from an entire army of corpses they all share one hive mind. When they talk it is very disturbing, as every corpse that makes up its form talks at the same time, becoming a choir of voices.

Tallulah’s Biological Parents - Kea and Rawiri
  Kea Mārama Kaiwhakaora -- { Miriama Smith }
Kea ;; an intelligent, bold mountain parrot, she was named for Paikea. Mārama ;;  light of the world. Kaiwhakaora ;; savior, healer.
  Rawiri Nikau Kaihao --  { Pana Hema Taylor }
Rawiri ;; father’s name, “David”. Nikau ;; palm tree native to NZ, a tree his parents loved. Kaihao ;; fisherman.
Kea and Rawiri grew up together. They were told by the Fae Elders they were to eventually marry. At first, Kea was entirely against this idea, not wanting to have any thing to do with an arranged marriage, but obviously, they ended up being fond of each other.. since they had a child before they were married. Rawiri was always chasing her, pulling her hair. Kea always telling him to leave her alone, seek refuge at Tane’s. When he finally did, she realized she didn’t want him to. She would sit by the docks, watching him and his father with the other men bring in the fish while she drew pictures of herbs and plants to remind her what did what. Or studying for more learning under Tane. They were both very close to him.
It wasn’t long before they were in a committed relationship, and completely inseparable. Kea and Rawiri were both very young when they had Tallie- eighteen and twenty, respectively, and not married. Kea’s parents were not kind to the idea of having a child out of wedlock (not typical wedlock, but more of a faerie bonding ceremony). Rawiri’s were a bit more “shit happens, but this means commitment, so remember that.” They grew to be happy for the couple, because their happiness was obvious all through the forest.
Kea and Rawiri were both extremely passionate people. Did everything with every ounce of everything they had. Kea (named for Paikea), was a healer and enjoyed making many different tinctures and salves. She was descended from a settler Pakepakeha, and many a Te-Tini-O-Hakuturi native. Rawiri came from a very long line of Te-Tini-O-Hakuturi. He had inherited his father’s boat, and worked as fishermen with the other men, who were much like a family to him, even after his father passed. He was a man of hustle, always getting whatever job he could do to put food on the table, or get Kea anything she’d ever wanted. Though, all she ever wanted was him. Kea worked on perfecting her salves, selling them along the bay, and spending quite a bit of time painting.
They were the epitome of a happy couple- excited to be a happy family, despite not being much above the poverty line. They were also both fiercely protective of the forest, and hoped to pass on their love to their baby. The two of them were near inseparable. When they had Tallulah they were exceedingly protective of her. Even in the barely a week they were alive with her. When Rawiri told Kea that he was going to leave to protect the forest, she refused to let him go on his own. In a moment of selfishness, she told him they could leave a spell to protect their baby, and go together. They did use a spell to keep Tal safe, and left to protect their forest. Tallulah wasn’t even given a name before her parents were killed defending the forest from fire.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Victor asked as he helped his sister climb over the fence. The twin had decided to take a late night tour of a nearby place that screamed Luigi's Mansion.

"Of course!" Once Tori was on the other side, she was able to open the gate open for him. "Allen came here a few days ago, I'm almost certain. We need to get to the bottom of him wondering off and this is the best place to start!"
