"Komochi" Data 🍡 (OFFSPRING)

Title: CHILD MOCHI DATA

Mochi (moe-chee) is a traditional Japanese dessert that has a firm yet pliant texture -- the artist is comparing Mr. Data's pale cheeks to this. Mochi is made by pounding and molding sweet rice. Data is metaphorically being pushed and pulled.

ADMIRAL HAFTEL: "Children should be educated at appropriate institutions."

LAL: "I want to stay here with my Dad."

🎵: from the original artist, @hokuru, the title has a double significance -- "komochi" [koe-moe-chee] also means "having children" or "little mochi".

🍊 IDOL HANDS: for New Year's, a very important holiday in Japan, it's common to make/display piles of mochi (often topped/decorated with citrus) -- sort of like a snowman in Western culture -- the smaller mochi are known as "komochi" (the large one is kasane).

New Anya Jenkins headcanon:

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street opened on Broadway in 1979 and Anya went to see it with Hallie and D'Hoffryn and other vengeance demons. They all loved the plot (revenge! vengeance!) except for the ending - they lose interest when it has morals attached. Though Anya thinks it's realistic that women who get involved with men will end up paying for it in the end.

Just, think about it!! A man (Sweeney Todd) gets revenge on the people who had him wrongfully imprisoned so they could steal his wife and child from him?? Vengeance demons would be all over that!!!!!!

The man's downstairs neighbor (Mrs. Lovett) who is completely in love with him (and decided to save NOT his child but his shiny expensive razors and keep them for YEARS after he was imprisoned) + when Sweeney starts killing she's like "well, with the price of meat what it is and you needing some way to dispose of the bodies, I suppose I could use this to benefit my pie shop" and then she gets rich off this murder/cannibalism scheme you know who would absolutely love that????

Vengeance Demon Anya Jenkins, that's who!!!!!

Mrs. Lovett is Anya's favorite character and after Anya loses her vengeance powers and suddenly she's falling in love with Xander and taking dangerous risks to be around him and the Scoobies and now she has to afford things and she understands why Mrs. Lovett would be down with vengeance not just for vengeance's sake but for the sake of love (and money, don't forget money). And after Xander leaves her at the altar, when Anya can finally form a coherent thought again, she finds her Sweeney Todd VHS and rewatches it because this fictional character would understand what she's going through and if Xander was going to break her heart, well, at least he didn't throw her into an oven (but also Anya kinda wishes he had because that would probably hurt less)

i had this conversation with chloe & hallie last night but to me the thing that qualifies a character as a “rogue” in batcomics is:

1. if they’re a recurring villain or antagonist

2. if that antagonism/villainy outweighs their heroism in the eyes of the narrative

3. if the other known rogues would be willing to work with them and/or they’re willing to work with the other known rogues

4. if the narrative treats them like a fellow rogue

characters like talia al ghul and jason todd can be antagonistic, but they’re much more complex than that. it’s made a point to distinguish them from batman villains in multiple ways despite association with villains in talia’s case (because the conflict between her loyalty to her father and her version of his vision and other desires and morals is one of the cruxes of her character) or actions in jason’s. and thus i do not consider them rogues. characters like anarky, who are antagonistic to batman but have been called heroes, fought alongside heroes multiple times, helped people more than harmed them, and make it a point to distinguish themselves from the rogues (to the point of attempting to kill them) are not rogues. azbats, who was both a protagonist and an antagonist in the knightfall saga, actively opposed bruce and others, but even with all that he did in that regard would still not be considered a rogue or a villain due to all of the nuances there bc it takes more than just “opposed to batman sometimes” to be a real member of his rogues gallery.

“Hallie?”

“What do you want now?” She sighed sadly, the truth was that I wanted to die! Loretta had removed the hex, I was completely broken, everything that I had done while Tomas was at the wheel...they were all hitting me at once and all I wanted was Hallie, I just needed her to make it better!

“Hallie baby please, I need you...”

“I told you, I’m done with you! You’re not my Shawnie, my Shawnie is dead!”

“No, Hals! I’ve done things, horrible things, but it wasn’t me!”

“What do you mean it wasn’t you? I saw you, all over her, writhing on that bed over there! It was you alright, it wasn’t my Shawnie, because you’re not him, you’re a monster!” She wasn’t the first person to call me that, Elena had said the exact same thing when I killed Todd in front of her. But hearing Hallie say it was like a knife to my heart.

“No, Hallie please don’t say that...”

“You may walk like him and talk like him, but you’re not him! My Shawnie was sweet, gentle, caring...he was so loving! He’d never look at another woman, nevermind kiss her and bite her, drink her blood and tell her how much he wanted her! Punch his hand through another vampire’s chest because he was jealous!” Oh shit, she saw that too?

“Have you any idea how much that killed me? Seeing you with someone else? And worse, enjoying it?”

“Yes!” I whispered, “I had to watch you with Grayson, remember?”

“I never...”

“Yes you did, before our fight, you kissed him right in front of me...and you smiled! If that was revenge, then you got it, you got it believe me!” She looked at me silently, unsure of what to make of me, “Hallie, I messed up, but I wasn’t in control! Grayson hexed me...”

“It doesn’t matter, what’s done is done!” She replied miserably, “When you touch me, you make my skin crawl!”

“No, Hallie please! Please say you’ll forgive me! If you don’t I might as well be dead!” I felt her warm bump against my cheek as I grovelled for her forgiveness, hoping that she would, that we could be together at last...but she just stood there, silent and in shock!
