Rewatched “The Price” last night for about the millionth time, and two things are stuck in my head today. One just a minor aesthetic quibble, and the other made my heart grow three sizes. 

If I’d been doing hair and makeup for this episode, I think I’d have thrown some medium-brown contact lenses on Devinoni Ral. Not black like Troi and the full Betazoids, but Matt McCoy’s baby blues just don’t feel right. Also, it would have made him look less the same “type” as Riker.

Speaking of Riker, in the scene where Picard is bragging to Mendoza about Will’s poker skills? The pride in his voice and in his face. And the smile Riker gives in response? That is probably more positive reinforcement than Kyle Motherfucking Riker ever gave his son in his entire life, and anybody who wants to tell me it’s “unrealistic” for Will to have stayed on the Enterprise as long as he did can go stuff their functional relationships with their fathers where the suns don’t shine.

Evolution was so good.

I love how we finally got a wesley centric episode again and it has so much character stuff! For the first time we can very clearly see his insecurities about being a teenage prodigy who everybody expects so much from.

Wesley is literally a seventeen year old who places his entire self worth in the adults around him respecting him and seeing him as equal. He works himself to exhaustion with constantly being on the bridge in dangerous situations, doing school work and being a teenager all at the same time. And then his mom was away from him for an entire year too.

I like how they kinda contrasted him with Stubbs as who he could become if he kept going like that. Stubbs sees himself in wesley and in some ways it's very accurate with how fixated he is on his project because he worked on it his entire life and would now rather die that give it up.

We probably won't get any more character insight in this direction bc tng is still episodic but it was still a great way to start off the season and i love the character development they went for since the first season.

Watching tng really reinforces just how obsessive and codependant the tos triunvirate is. Picard and beverly clearly have history, but unless she has business there, she's never on the bridge, and riker never beams down with picard, is always one or the other on the bridge. Even deanna, despite being picard's other support, does her thing. Meanwhile, jim was dragging bones and spock, the two most senior officers after him and scotty, on every new, unknown and potentially dangerous planet. Like, we been knew but it's fun to have the confirmation

Im re-watching Star Trek Picard...season 3 episode 7...im cackling over how savage lore is, for example:

Data- I apologise for the outburst captain, I'm not in complete control of this body nor-*splits to Lore*

Lore- nor am I in complete control over my revulsion at your ancient face!

And another example...

Lore- Did the tree move? Or did the apple just fall far from it? When you're constantly subjected to these... Self righteous, self proclaimed heros, spewing their mortality as if vomit, were somehow virtuous, then sometimes dear... A little bend...a little arch...a little antagonising flare is required.

Personally, I think we need more Lore content because IM LAPPING THIS SHIT UP!!!! BUT IM RAVENOUS I NEED MORE!!!
