The whole plot of the show got kicked off because Dipper chose that one specific tree to hang the sign on

I want to know how Dipper got Journal 3 back from in the chair after Grunkle Stan sat down in it

Soos is so based all the time

I honestly love how Mabel can be so upbeat and kind and bubbly but when she needs to she can be rough and assertive about what she wants

How the hell did Dipper miss the hand falling off when he was originally recording it?????

The rock that looks like a face rock scene is what working in customer service is like

The golf cart looks cgi but it blends in so well with the art style

Gnomes have a societal structure like bees I guess?

Dipper knows it’s important to wear your seatbelt

Mabel is actually so smart and clever she’s cooler than I remember

They take the time to establish that Grunkle Stan can be a good guy when he wants to which is important right before he goes behind the vending machine and is acting sus

Yeah it never hit me back then how sus it was that Grunkle Stan had a secret staircase behind the vending machine with a secret code and stuff

This episode does an amazing job at setting up the atmosphere and tone and what’s to come next and compared to the unaired pilot the pacing is a lot better because it has more time

Happy birthday to one of the best shows ever.

Gravity Falls.

Man, does time fly by.

I remember when this came out, and I first saw the commercials advertising this show.

2012 for me personally brought me a lot of fandoms and shows/media that I hold dear to my heart after all these years.

Gravity Falls is one of them.

Even though it only had 2 seasons, its story and premise has pulled in so many people and made this show even more successful.

I'm glad that it got a proper ending, and we got to see the story of 2 sets of twins surrounded by weirdness.

I understand what Rick Riordan and Alex Hirsch mean about a fictional character never actually aging and I do get how comforting and sweet that can be but tbh there's also such a nice warm and cozy feeling at "calculating" how old your fave would be if they were real? Making them cute "happy x birthday!" edits. Maybe even going out of your way to bake/buy a cake for the event and put on candles of the exact aged theyd be in theory. Growing up and feeling that nostalgia but knowing that in a sense, they grew up with you too. Thinking back to when they were a teen/kid not just in canon but in irl years too. That bittersweet feeling of "no matter how much time passes, no matter how far we grow from the kids/teens consuming a story about a fictional kid/teen, we'll always have a bit our child self inside and we'll always be a little connected to these stories." Idk idk im emoing rn🥺💕🫂

one of the most meaningful parts of gravity falls was having a positive brother and sister sibling relationship being depicted on screen in a disney channel cartoon. disney channel was like. renowned for its sibling rivalry shows where the brother and sister were constantly hating each other.

me and my own younger brother were always super pissed at those depictions, since we were (and still are) very close, and while we have our arguments like any siblings do, our relationship has always been pretty positive. both of us are neurodivergent and while we are polar opposites, we practically read each other’s minds and have too many inside jokes to count. we’ve cried to each other, ranted to each other, and struggled together, and he’s one of my best friends.

the first time i watched gravity falls was in 2015 at a friend’s house, my first episodes being legend of the gobblewonker & the time traveler’s pig. witnessing dipper and mabel being a perfect encapsulation of me and my brother, and mirroring our own personalities so well, i was floored! when i came home from that party, i immediately went to my brother and geeked out- “dude, there’s a show that basically has you and me as the main characters!”

this spawned our mutual love for gravity falls and subsequent hyperfixation with the lore, and a profound appreciation of alex hirsch’s love letter to his childhood. our whole family got into it, we convinced our parents and our cousins and our uncle to watch it, my brother and i got our best friends into it, and we even hosted a “farewell gravity falls” party the day the last episode aired.

gravity falls still is so important to me not only as a cornerstone of my fandom experience, but as a piece of media that depicted an earnest celebration of dipper and mabel’s bond as they approached adolescence, and seeing me and my brother’s experience be so aptly represented made a lasting positive impact on me.
