Every TAZ Live One-Shot (no previous knowledge of Lore required)
if you've ever thought "hm, the adventure zone seems interesting, but i don't feel like committing to catching up on multiple long campaigns right now", good news! this is a list of all the live eps that take place in their own universes (or in the case of "the ballad of bigfoot", is kind of a spinoff of amnesty but is completely understandable without having listened to amnesty & contains no major spoilers).
the links are to apple podcasts bc that's what i use but you can also find them on the maximum fun website, spotify, etc
Hootenanny: a country-themed space opera. a space opry, you might say
the ballad of bigfoot: an amnesty story: the game system for this one is called "Oh, Dang! Bigfoot Stole My Car With My Friend's Birthday Present Inside". technically bigfoot is a recurring character in the amnesty arc but this ep is like, barely related to that at ALL
dadlands: brennan lee mulligan GMs a "post-apocalyptic dad-based survival sim" and it's actually even funnier than it sounds.
dadlands 2: into the corn hole: it's dadlands again, but this time with 100% more backyard games.
holiday brawl: the goal in this game system is to kick santa claus's ass. yeah
just us: superheroes try to maintain their secret identities at a company picnic.
just us (the sequel): those same superheroes are now trying to hide their identities at a convention. this one is somehow more wild than the previous one
spirit breakers: the year is 1899, and spookington manor (which is definitely not the house from the classic board game clue) is being haunted by a mysterious beast. who ya gonna call? the spirit breakers! and also another ghosthunting group that DEFINITELY isn't a knockoff version of the scooby-doo gang. special guest aabria iyengar is an absolute delight
spirit breakers (san jose edition): an entirely new set of ghost hunters (so you dont even need to listen to the other spirit breakers ep for this one) investigates hauntings at the winchester mystery house (still DEFINITELY not a clue board), and special guest aabria iyengar returns to try and seduce one of the winchester boys. no, not those winchesters. sandy, deacon, and deacon's husband casual are completely original characters, copyright 2023 by travis mcelroy
the adventure bone: three dead adventurers are reanimated as skeletons and tasked with preventing an ancient and deadly beast from rising again...in the middle of a resort full of rich people on vacation.

His Queen Pt16
The usual group and I have been shipped to the British museum where Ahk's parents are said to be. We're hopping they will be able to help us. Originally it was only meant to be, Ahk and I but the others felt we needed help with this task. We have just woken up from our sleep and hear a knock. Ahk opens up the door reviling Larry and Nicky
"How we doing?" Larry asks
"All clear" I respond
"All right, let's go"
"Larry, the others felt, perhaps, we could use some help"
"The others?"
"Our friends" I smile at Larry
"Lawrence, I couldn't sit idly by. Our very survival is at stake" Teddy pops out a crate
"All right. Hey, Teddy. Good. Good man to have in a crisis" the Atills pops up "Attila. Okay, a little muscle" the Sacagawea
"Hi, Larry" she sheepishly says
"That is a deceptively large box" I nod in agreement
"Obviously, we came along, too. You know you'd be lost without us, Gigantor" Jed and Octavius show up in Attilas hat. Then Dexter comes out
"Are you serious? and the monkey. All right, basically everyone"
"Dada" Laaa yells
"Oh no, no. No possible benefit whatsoever"
"He really wanted to come" I shrug. Laa looks at Nicky confused
"Yeah, this is my son... my actual son, Nicky. Nicky, this is Laaa"
"He's just tracking me"
"So, Lawrence what's the plan of attack" Teddy asks
"We need to get to the Egyptian wing, find Ahk's father... and hopefully get the tablet fixed. All of us" Laaa starts to eat the packing peanuts "Laaa, that's not for eating. That's not food. Don't... You know what? I got a job for you. Come on, come on. Come on" Laaa and Larry walk over to a door "I want you to stay here and watch this door, okay? Make sure nobody comes in or out. Okay? Good. You're gonna be a guard, just like me. All right. No. Come here. Stay here... and put your hands on the door. Good, stay. Stay! Good. That's right. You stay here. Stay here. Stay. Right. No. Stay. Stay. Stay. Look there. Good. Stay. No. Good. Stay. No. Stay. Stay! Don't... Don't move. Don't move. No. Good. Okay" Larry finally comes back over to us "okay, listen up, guys. This place is waking up for the first time... and we have no idea what's out there, so stay together, all right" we begin walking down a hallway that's dark.
We then walk into a room full of statues, some missing limbs and crawling on the floor
"What kind of haunted hootenanny is this, boys?" Jed whispers
"We're all finding this super creepy, right" Nicky now states
"They're just a little freaked out"
"First time we came alive it took some getting used to" Teddy speaks
"Hey, there. Just heading to Egypt. Come on. This way" we walk down another dark hallway. I take Ahk's free hand in mine and he squeezes it in a comforting manner "hear that?"
"Hear what?" Nicky frowns as a dinosaur walks in front of us
"That"
"We'll just be down here if anyone needs us" Jed whispers
"We're not scared. It's just more comfortable" Oct now whispers and they slide into Attila's hat
"Lawrence... I think it's safe to say that we're in a bit of trouble"
I know how to handle this guy. You mind?" Larry takes a horn from a hog that hung on the wall
"Dad, what are you doing?"
"How do you think I tamed your pal Rexy. Hi, there. I bet you're not so mean, are you? I bet you're not so mean. No, you're just a little puppy, right? your just a little puppy who wants to play. You want to play? want to play fetch? yeah? you want to play with this bone? yeah. Here you go. Go fetch. Go fetch" Larry throws the bone and at first the dinosaur chances it, but it then snaps in half
"Lawrence?" Teddy says
"Yeah?"
"May I suggest a different plan? run!" Teddy yells as the dinosaur raws. We run into a room
"Close it, close it!" Teddy tells us the close the door
"Okay. I think we're... get back!" the dinosaur breaks down the door "everybody, get back! all right. You don't want to fetch. Fetch on this" Larry hits it with a stick which does nothing, but out from the shadows comes a shiny man
"Need some help? move" the man fights the dinosaur who swishes it's tail and Attila gets knocked down
"Attila, you okay?"
"Here hold this" the man gives Larry a sword that's heavy. The man hits the dinosaur and it runs off
"That was actually very cool" Nicky looks in amazement
"Sir Lancelot, at your service" the man takes his hat off
"Thank you. That was amazing"
"Theodore Roosevelt... President of the United States of America" Lancelot and Teddy shake hands
"I have no idea what that means"
"I'm Larry, and this is my son, Nick"
"You have a noble face, Nick"
"Thanks" Nicky says confused. I look at Ahk confused and he shrugs
"Thanks for the help"
"Now, you... You remind me of a man I once knew at Camelot"
"Really? one of the Knights of the Round Table?"
"No, Erik"
"Erik?"
"Our fool. He was the funniest fool I ever met. He was so good, he didn't even have to do anything. He could just walk into a room and you'd laugh. You have what he had. The gift. You could be a fool"
"I don't know about that"
"Oh, come on, of course you could! we get you one of those hats with the funny little dangly bells"
"Dangly bells?" Lancelot starts to laugh and imitates what he believes Larry just sounded like
"Larry, the tablet"
"Yeah so we've got to get going, so..." but before we can leave Lancelot looks off into the distance
"Camelot. Someday, I shall return to its mighty towers... to King Arthur... and Queen Guinevere. Sweet... beauteous Guinevere. But I'm sworn not to until I have completed my quest. I must find the Holy Grail"
"The what?" I frown
"Well, good luck with that. And thanks for the help again. We got to get to Egypt, so we'll see you"
"I will lead you"
"No, it's okay"
"Halt, Dangly Bells. There is strange magic in the air, and dangerous beasts are afoot. It is the duty of a true knight... to protect and care for those in need. We're off"
"I guess he's coming with us" Larry says looking back at me and Ahk
"Larry" Attila tells us that Jed and Octavius have fallen somewhere while we were running and now we don't know where they are.

Cirque du Hollow  → PLOT DROP
Trigger Warnings: Discussions of poisoning, illness (including symptoms) and coma-like states.
-
Life won’t be the same in Redwood Hollow.
Halloween night falls, and the town are more than ready to put last year’s event behind them. The circus is in town, and so far, it has gone off without a hitch. No signs of terror or turmoil, save for on the faces of those who weren’t quite brave enough for the haunted house. Or the clowns. There is something to be said for a true circus clown on All Hallow’s Eve.
But, I digress. The October festivities went as plainly as they had in previous years, ignoring last year’s hiccup with Alice Little. Ignoring the Valentine’s tragedies. Ignoring Adam’s sudden illness at the Hollow Hootenanny.
Until...
Yes, there is always an until.
It began with a single call to the ambulance service, after a carnival goer collapsed, just outside the big top. It was at first assumed that they fainted from the heat. After the long, hot summer, October seems to be quite mild this year. They did not wake up from their faint, and were taken by ambulance to Redwood Hollow Hospital.
Not 10 minutes later, there was another, at the other end of the carnival, near the bars and snack vans. They had been seen in an apparent drunken stupor before they collapsed. Medical staff on scene called a second ambulance when they were unresponsive to attempts at waking them up.
If it had just been two, it might have been a coincidence. Big events like this have first aid bays for a reason, after all. But it was strange.
Without any apparent link, a number of attendees suddenly became either ill, or appeared to be drunk out of nowhere. Within 15 to 30 minutes of these strange symptoms appearing, those affected would also fall into a faint, and become unresponsive to attempts to wake them all.
Medical staff have arrived at the scene, as have the RHPD, but so far they have been unable to find a link between the cases. They advise all attendees to be vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
OOC Information
Welcome to our next big plot drop! Some important things to note, about how your characters may interact with this plot drop:
The plot drop is happening In Character on October 31st, but you may react to it now, pretending that we are actually already in Monday. (Time is fake, y’know?)
A batch of Pepsi syrup has been spiked at one of the drink vendors, unbeknownst to the staff. It has been spiked with Mr. Borovsky’s potion.
The potion only works to give memories back to its intended victim (in the same way that Alice, Adam, Cass and Cyrus have gotten theirs back). The player in question has been messaged already.
If the potion is given to anyone who it is not intended for, then the memory restoring qualities will not work.
For you, this means that any character who has accidentally taken the spiked Pepsi/ potion will fall unconscious within 15 to 30 minutes of taking it, and be comatose for 2 weeks in character.
During this 15/30 minutes they may develop severe dizziness, tremors, nausea and an extremely high temperature, appearing either unwell or drunk before passing out.
When they wake, they will suffer confusion and temporary memory loss for up to a month. Their memory long term may also be affected, but not severely. (We aren’t talking Dory in the long term.) They will not regain the memories of their past life at this stage.
It is your choice whether your character is directly affected by this plot drop, or if they have simply fallen witness to it.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!
All threads must be trigger warning tagged with poisoning tw along with any other tags you feel are appropriate such as those I have used in the tags for this post. Remember to also tag them with event tag #happiestevent8

A WORD FROM HEADMAGE CROWLEY.
Hello, my dear students and staff! You may have all begun to notice the hectism of orientation season soon toning down into a dull buzz. Students and faculty have now begun to adjust themselves into the new school year, yet the talk of the hootenanny seems to still make its rounds in chatter. It gladdens me to know that our hootenanny has resonated deeply in everyone’s hearts and left a lasting impression: I will take it upon myself to host one for the next year as well! Although, we can certainly do away with the sudden appearance of rogue geese— Ahem!
The points of our eight dormitories have been tallied!  I am delighted to announce that the winners of this month’s house activity is… Ignihyde! My, who would have expected Heartslabyul to be dethroned so early in the race? Please be sure to wish them congratulations and let this be motivation to work even harder next month!
BULLETIN BOARD.
Warning: Restricted Area!  The main western hall leading to the alchemy labs have now been marked off as restricted! Rumors among students claim that the hall has become haunted… Should one breach into the area, they will find themselves pelted by flying dodgeballs. Guess you gotta find a new route to the alchemy labs, huh? For the more daring however, feel free to cross the warning tape and discover the horrors that await– Careful not to get a concussion!
Woe, Babies be Upon Ye!  It first began with an ear-splintering cry that resonated across campus. Then, they arrived. The infant simulators. For humanities and social science classes, ‘tis the season of baby! Distressed students can be seen across campus carrying screeching infant dolls as part of an exam. The dolls are magically infused; there’s no use trying to turn them off! Should someone be audacious enough to abandon their poor baby, beware! If left unattended for a period of time, the baby will hunt you down.
Treasure Hunt at Scarabia?! Legend tells of a treasure room in the bowels of the Scarabia dorm. It promises gold, wonders from all over the world and, maybe, even a genie? That's what Scarabia Student B said when he mapped the route for you. This isn't the treasure room! But, your mischief's accidentally triggered the alarm and campus authorities are on their way. Quick, try to escape!
I'm your Venus! As part of your responsibilities in taking care of the greenhouse, you have to feed Night Raven University's famous venus fly trap, Audrey. What no one told you about the plant, however, is that it's about ten feet tall and that its roots never apparently skip leg day. Start running.
BIRTHDAY COLUMN.
Birthday celebrations are an honored tradition at Night Raven University. The following students and faculty have upcoming birthdays:
Student and Faculty Birthdays: Atticus ‘Jinx’ Anluan (August 8th), Ortho Shroud (August 14th), Riddle Rosehearts (August 24th)
Please give your peers your sincerest birthday greetings… and be sure not to leave their respective dormitories and offices in a mess.
Headmage Crowley
HOUSEKEEPING.
Reminder: Follow everyone on our masterlist! It’s required as per this directory’s guidelines to follow everyone on our masterlist. You can find a quick follow list of our members here.
July’s feedback form is now live! This month’s feedback poll included questions in regards to which canon event(s) you would like to see be hosted at Night Raven University. We’ve also included a poll for most wanted oc concepts and canon characters you’d like to see at NRU! Click here for the feedback survey.

[Mysterious Risotto]
confusion was clear on dear queen's features, frowned brows staring down at very haunting mass of what he barely could tell it was risotto ... maybe. he was starting to doubt his own sight on the matter --wait, was that a fluorescent mushroom ?! " uh. when did this appear on the table. "
let's get hootin'!
"...I think one of the Savanaclaw students forgot it here? That really tall guy over there, with the blond tail." Deuce's befuddled gesture eventually lands on one of the students who had ran up to join the rest of the crowd on the dance floor. "Oh wow, um, I didn't know Professor Amos could dance like that." He didn't think people's joints could bend like that either without breaking a bone. Yikes.
In the end, however, Deuce's curiosity gets the better of him and he leans in to inspect the rather peculiar-looking dish. It's barely been touched; a sign that there were in fact students attending the university with some of their survival instinct intact, even if it's been somewhat impaired. The smart idea would likely have been to avoid the dish altogether—but then again, Deuce had never claimed to be the sharpest spade in the shed.
And he's just so terribly, terribly curious about what such a bizarre-looking food would taste like... The mushrooms themselves don't look too peculiar (he thinks, at least) and as he continues to gaze at the food he can't help but feel...compelled, so to speak. Compelled to try a bite of it, just a one little nibble.
After all, he thinks, perhaps a bit naively, it was just a purple risotto, right? So against what would have been the better judgement, Deuce ferries a spoonful of risotto into his mouth...only to be surprised by the rich, savory flavor that almost seems to explode onto his tongue.
Shocked didn't even being to cover the spectrum of emotions that held Deuce in an affectionate chokehold. If he were a more erudite type, he had a feeling that even if he had run the gamut of appropriate synonyms to describe how he felt with that one bite, it wouldn't have mattered. Words weren't enough to convey how much he enjoyed this oddly colored risotto, so he would simply have to show it instead!
Newly resolved, he straightens abruptly and turns to face the Pomefiore senior with fervor in those sharp teal eyes, earnest intent lining his frame. "Schoenheit—!!" He begins, but as he opens his mouth to speak a fuzzy sort of darkness peppers his vision; his jaw goes slack in silenced surprise, and suddenly he is no longer at Night Raven University's First Annual Hootenanny.
Instead, he is standing in the living area of a modest little townhouse. It's neatly furnished, if clearly lived-in, and familiar. The architectural style of the interior design is something he would have described as being 'carefree and whimsical', in a way that should not but somehow clearly does manage to function properly. It's a familiar aesthetic, because it is the same sort of common style that was found in the Heartslabyul dorm.
Breathing in introduces the scent of roses to him, sweet in a way that only dried blooms achieved best. From behind him, somewhere outside the house, he can hear the sounds of a party, muted by the walls. From a different part of the house, however, Deuce can hear a woman's voice humming gently to a song that only she could hear. And just like the furniture, just like the roses, that too is familiar.
Warmth creeps into his chest like a vice, and he turns down the hall that he knows will lead into the kitchen, because he knows this house like how he knows who that voice belongs to.
"Hey Mom, need any help?" Deuce asks, before pressing a kiss to her cheek the way he has done since he was a child. She's shorter than he remembers her being, the last time he saw her, but he abandons the thought as quickly as it comes. She laughs, but says yes.
"It's just the cake that's left to bring out, but sure, you can carry it out for me." His mom explains, gesturing a hand towards the simple two-tiered cake that she had just placed onto the carrying tray. "Maybe I should have agreed to let that baker friend of yours take care of the cake this year after all. Then I wouldn't have had to clean all those dishes."
"I'll let him know next time, then." He says, before carefully picking up the cake. "Okay, I think I got it... Can you get that for me?" He asks, once they've reached the backdoor, though she's already pulling it open for him by the time he's finished speaking.
The party he had heard earlier turns out to have been located right in their own garden. It's a small gathering, because there simply is not a lot of open space in the Spade household. Not that Deuce had ever bothered to bring any guests home in his youth in the first place, he remembers.
He...can't quite make out any of their guests' faces, which is disturbing, but something in his gut tells him that he knows these people even if he can't quite place them, and Deuce has always found some value in trusting his gut. With that settled, he lets the matter go for the most part and makes the join the rest of the party, but his mother stops him before he gets through the doorway. When he turns to ask why, he finds that he can't speak.
"I'm proud of you, Deuce." She says, her matching teal eyes soft with a mother's love. "You're not quite there yet, but I know that one day, you'll get to where you want to be. So don't give up. When that happens, then you can come and join the rest of us here." Her hand brushes against his cheek fondly, and it feels like a goodbye but less of a bye forever and more of a see you soon. All the same, he doesn't want to leave.
But when he blinks, he’s suddenly back at the table with the mysterious purple risotto, and Housewarden Schoenheit is looking at him with an expression that says that he's about to give up on trying to reach wherever it was that Deuce's head had flown off to.
It's...jarring, actually. Because Deuce doesn't even know where he went just then, and doesn't even know where to start with explaining what he just saw. Not that something like that would stop him from trying, of course. But, well...
(It's hard to explain something like that when Deuce starts crying as soon as he starts to speak, y'know?)

Album Review: Tim O’Brien - Cup of Sugar
Somewhat of a departure, yet still close to home, Cup of Sugar finds Tim O’Brien on both sides of the fence where the grass is blue and greener.
It’s also - for the first time in his decades-long career - an album of all original songs.
Primarily a bluegrass musician, O’Brien, who wrote or co-wrote the 13 tracks, strays far from his chosen genre - drums, keys and pedal steel are all part of the mix alongside banjo, fiddle, mandolin and guitar. He swings New Orleans style on the drudgery-is-better-than-death, workingman’s blues of “The Pay’s a Lot Better Too” and goes out to the country with his wife, Jan Fabricius, with whom he duets on the marriage-as-malaise ballad “She Can’t, He Won’t and They’ll Never.”
But all’s not doom and gloom around this Cup of Sugar and O’Brien turns to the animal kingdom for comical analogies as he explores ecology on the funky “Bear;” avoids the bait of heartbreak on the swaggering “Thinkin’ Like a Fish” and chronicles the passage of time on “Little Lamb, Little Lamb.”
I was young once/but I won’t be young again/you wouldn’t understand/little lamb little lamb, he sings.
Bluegrass aficionados get their fill, too, as Del McCoury lends his high lonesome to the sonic hootenanny that is “Let the Horses Run” and the ghost of John Hartford haunts the fiddle-centric “Diddleye Day.”
Grade card: Tim O’Brien - Cup of Sugar - B+

Thank Y’all!
Tumblr media
Thank you to everyone who attended the Haunted Hootenanny! I’d like to give a few special thank-you’s to some folks that made this event possible.
First off, @glitchphil and @lynaeclarke. You two are my officers for a reason, and you outdid yourselves both with Bottle Blastin’ and Tombstone Tales. @glitchphil, you spearheaded the advertisements and the Hootenanny posters, an invaluable job. @lynaeclarke, you helped cap off the night with some badass, spooky tales and made sure no one felt left out! That means a lot.
Next up, all our artists: @hinahinagray, @kottkrig, @itsjustbeek . Y’all outdid yourselves. You brought our event to the next level with them posters, and I can’t thank you enough. I’m jealous of y’all’s talent, and I’m so glad y’all are in the guild.
@hinahinagray, the fireworks show was absolutely amazing, and I couldn’t have asked for better security! Thank you for holding down the fort despite the EXTREMELY large crowd for our first-ever event and spearheading our first art poster! We couldn’t have done it without you!
@ms-winford for coordinating things with the Bloated Rat and even mostly taking over help for catering and getting folks what they need. You’re a lifesaver, and I’m blessed to have you as deputy!
@itsjustbeek again for the playlist composed of absolute fire. Everyone yelling when the screaming part in Big Enough came on both times was the highlight of my night.
@rimeshard for operating the Auspicious Accoutrements and helping out on the fireworks! I’m glad to have you in the guild. You serve as an inspiration to our menus and helped bring our market game to the next level ever since we saw you at ToA!
Our folks at the @howlingowl-wra deserve some recognition! @belillinafireseeker has been an absolute dream to work with, and I couldn’t have asked for better folks serving the living. We will absolutely see to havin’ y’all come out again sooner or later at our next one!
The Bloated Rat has been a pleasure to work with! @nytmareinks, @ms-winford, @alchemicalglow absolutely killed it tonight, and I couldn’t ask for better folks for the undead!
@fence-macabre: Listen. Back when I made the Fence around February of this year, I had no idea we’d be doing something that attracted 70+ in one spot. Each day, I’m humbled to have the pleasure of leading y’all. You are all treasures in your own right, and I’m so proud of all of you.
And lastly...

Four of Six
The night sky was still  overcast, but even so, a few stars pushed through the haze as the rain waned. Khaeris looked up, catching the last few drops on her cheeks. She couldn't help smiling, feeling them slide down and drop onto her damp dress. Coming out of the barn and back into the open air was refreshing. The barn had been cozy and warm with all the folks inside, sweet with the scent of hay, that musty smell of lofts and stalls. Outside though... Outside, the fresh scent of rain swept away the cobwebs from her spirit. The breeze was chilly and she got gooseflesh on her arms where her dress didn't cover. The susurrus of the voices still in the barn and the shuffling of feet and jackets being pulled on was comforting. They had all been right. It felt good to be somewhere else. She was going to need to look for other stars and nightskies than Silvermoon. She needed t o travel, her soul called for it. And she was ready to answer. She found a hill where she could look over the waning party and review her memories of the night to share. The smile in her voice was clear as she left the message for Pollux, though Meryn's comment about the war being over and wasn't Pollux home now had sent a single prickle of irritation though her. He wasn't home. So it was messages and photos, still. "Hi, hon. Tonight I went to a party in Silverpine, of all places. A 'hootenanny'. Apparently I should have worn plaid and suspenders. It was in a field and, just as Meryn said, I have hay in all sorts of places. t was a good time. I saw Meryn, Dicenne, Valarin--LOTS of folks! There were people from all over the world there. Junarra rode in on a donkey. I entered a shooting contest--got four out of my six targets with a revolver. I don't know if you'd be proud or disappointed in that number. Ha! Miss you."
