Who is the little spoon? In this cruel world, it is snuggle or be snuggled. Though I wouldn't say "spooning" is the right term for their situation so much as "Luna makes herself comfortable, and there they stay". Like so.

Who sings in the shower? Luna, often forgetting that motels have thin walls. Enjoy the show while you can, Nyx.

Who plays pranks on the other? I wouldn't say they play a lot of pranks, so much as Nyx is just a very mischievous person, and brings out Luna's inner gremlin.

Who is the one who listens to pop music? To be honest, I think Luna has had a lot of fun with the radios in their various stolen vehicles. Some people would search for gil or weapons - Luna pries through their music collection.

Who brings the other a random cup of joe? Nyx makes the food and Luna makes the drinks. It's a balanced partnership. She likes to try different teas that they find.

Who picks the cheesy movies for date night? I could see them channel-surfing and landing on whatever seems the least boring, since goodness knows they're going to chat through the whole thing anyway. Between them, these two do Not have the focus for an entire movie.

Who is more likely to feed the other in public? Once while they were on the road, they had to go undercover as a couple for Reasons. Nyx played it up a great deal, just because it's fun to watch Luna squirm.

Who gives the other random little compliments? Nyx probably gives more by sheer volume, but Luna is the most direct. Once she gets over her hangups, ofc.

Who is always stealing food from the other’s plate? Nyx does it then dares her to take it back so she will come closer and he can steal a kiss. It's very smooth and all, but after a while, it might just be easier if they share a plate.

Who is more likely to let the other borrow their car? Nyx drives, period. Unless they need to make a quick getaway, because Luna drives like the laws of physics don't apply to her.

Who makes the list before they go grocery shopping? Nyx makes the list, partly because he knows better what they'll need, and partly because he knows Luna will inevitably get distracted looking at interesting things she's found. ("Nyx, look! It's candy but it's shaped like little chocobos! Isn't that novel?") (He always leaves room in the budget for her because she's too cute to say no to.)

Who makes sure the other takes their meds when sick? Oh, they're both stubborn when they're sick, but at least Luna will allow her injuries to be tended before charging back into battle. They could fund their entire journey if Luna had a gil for every time Nyx pretended to be fine, it's just a scratch Luna, don't worry about it - and she had to calmly explain that one does not build an immunity to gunfire or stab wounds.

Who watches sports and has to teach the other the rules? Luna has no idea what's going on, no matter how many times Nyx explains it, but she's glad he seems so excited. Conversely, she's dragged him along to a few live Tenebraean sporting events, but they're all hopelessly complex and look more like performances than athletics anyway.

Who pulls the other to their feet for a dance in the living room? They're both the type to do this. Once, Nyx pretended he didn't know how to dance just so Luna would "teach" him and he'd get to hold her and also mess with her at the same time, the sly dog.

Who has to keep reminding the other to hurry or they’ll be late? I wouldn't say either of them are inclined to be regularly tardy. But if they don't want to be there, they will complain to each other the entire event and talk so much shit.

Who is the one most likely to get a tattoo with the other’s name? Ok this is actually an interesting one - because of royal protocol and public image and whatnot, I don't see Luna as the type to get inked in any way, shape or form usually. However, those small tattoos are an important part of Galahdian culture, presumably marking something about the person or their life events. So I could imagine her getting something as part of a major event in their lives as per tradition, as a way of embracing his culture. Nyx, obviously, has no qualms with cultural tattoos, and there's probably something traditional for commitment, so. It's all very sweet, they're doing their best trying to bring their worlds together.

Hi! I have another hypothetical question for the Kingdomverse? cast: if they were all suddenly thrust into a modern-day(or even futuristic) type of world, with cars, computers, etc., how would they react, and how fast would they adapt?

Oh that's interesting! Their world is more visually different than anything to a modern world, so that would be the most jarring thing for all of them. Their world does have a lot of modern amenities due to magic, and there's even an entire city where some modern things exist, like vehicles, (Though that is a floating city that none of our main cast have actually visited... I was actually debating making that Edgar's home!), so I think that once they adjusted they would get used to some things pretty quick.

The main issues would be in modern social situations. Nightmare and Dream would need to adjust to not being royalty anymore, (Which would be easier for Nightmare honestly), Killer and Cross would need to tone down the protectiveness (Especially Cross), Red and Edge would need to be... less intimidating...

Horror would probably take it the worst, he'd be a panicking mess. Everything is so much louder in a modern world. Dust would need to stick to Horror's side to keep him from having a full-on breakdown or from running off into the nearest forest.

Ink would need to be kept on a leash to stop him from running off to explore. Error would probably handle the change alright at first. Nightmare and Error would be the two leaders in this scenario actually, having taken the adjustment the easiest. They'd be the ones finding a place to have all of them stay, gathering information, and acquiring funds.

Nightmare would probably manage to wiggle his way into some higher social circles purely because of his air of superiority he seems to have. You know how some people will just let you into places if you're confident enough? That's Nightmare.

Dust would also be sent out to gather information. He's an assassin, sneaking around and observing things is one of his specialties. (Killer would be left with Horror during this time of course).

The change would be confusing for all of them, but the Kings would keep everyone together, and only when everyone has taken the change well enough would anyone consider branching off from the group. (Red and Edge would probably be the first ones to try going out on their own, if at all)

The Kings would try to find out how they got there and how to get back home. They have a kingdom to care for! Dream leads that search with Blue, Cross and Ink, while Nightmare, Dust, Comic and Error secure their lives in the modern world.

Blue (When he's not helping the king) and Pyrus take an interest in the police force, while Lust and Ardor would try to pursue different carriers than what they're used to. Ardor would try to work in a flower shop, and Lust would probably try working at a café or a regular bar rather than at a brothel- sorry, strip club as they're called here.

Stretch would be sticking close to Blue through the whole thing. Reaper disappeared shortly after they arrived, and he came back to speak with Nightmare briefly before settling back at Geno's side. Reaper was the one who found them a place to stay.

Reaper seems to regularly disappear from the group, and he always comes back with something for Geno. Geno feels a lot better that he came to this world with Reaper. Reaper doesn't really involve himself with any big decisions unless it effects Geno.

Boyfriend cheats on me with my step sibling so I get him kicked out and destroy his relationship with his parents

When I was around 17 I started dating a guy (19), I'll call him "Jake" for the sake of this post. Also age of consent where I live is 16 so nothing illegal happening here. We got on well, spent a lot of time together and cared for each other a lot. We even started talking about living together once we both moved out. We were a perfectly happy couple.

Or so I thought.

You see, after we'd been dating for a few months, something in Jake changed. He was getting a lot more distant. Whenever he was with me he'd be checking his phone constantly. we stopped spending as much time together and he started to get really funny about public affection, regarding things like hand holding and stuff. He also seemed to start caring less and less about my feelings. I used to have a bit of a thing for humiliation in the bedroom, nothing too far and we'd spoken about what Jake should and shouldn't say, but he started to get more and more degrading. He'd tell me how no one would ever love me and would pick on my insecurities, I actually broke down crying a few times when this happened. To give him a bit of credit, the first few times he did stop everything he was doing and apologise/cuddle with me until I felt better but eventually that stopped too and he just began rolling his eyes and telling me to grow up. He was like a completely different person.

The insults started to seep into our everyday life. He'd pick on my appearance a lot, bring up my family (I was dealing with a lot of family issues at the time), bring up the fact that I slept around before we started dating (a sort of rebellion caused by the family issues) etc. If got upset by it he'd just leave the room and let me cry by myself. I started to feel like it was my fault our relationship was falling apart, maybe I just wasn't good enough for him.

I knew deep down that he was cheating on me and that was confirmed when I got a message from a guy, "David", on Facebook telling me that he'd been sleeping with Jake. He apologised profusely and told me that he broke things off with Jake as soon as he found out he had a boyfriend. I couldn't be mad at David, it wasn't his fault. We spoke for hours and I reassured David that it wasn't his fault and that he'd done nothing wrong. David also helped me to stop making excuses for Jake's attitude and the way he'd been acting. He was a godsend.

The thing that truly broke me happened not too long after the cheating was discovered. We'd been arguing a hell of a lot more. Then he decided to do something absolutely unforgivable. You see, I had a stained relationship with my father for years. He'd cheat on my mother constantly and eventually, he settled down and had kids with a girl he'd been seeing behind her back. He did try to have some sort of relationship with me till I was about 13/14 ish and then decided that he didn't love me as much as his other kids and we stopped any and all contact. It broke me and it still hurts to think about to this day. Anyway, Jake went out of his way to find on of my step siblings online and slept with them. He bragged about it the next day and my step sibling actually posted online about what had happened and I received a bunch of messages from their friends telling me how I had deserved it. This was probably the lowest point in my life and I hated myself, partly for allowing it to happen and partly because I had started to believe what they were saying.

My only solace during this time was David (I didn't want to burden my friends with my problems and David was one of the only people who knew, first hand what Jake was like). We spoke for a few weeks and eventually talk turned to revenge. I had tried calling things off a couple of months prior due to Jake's awful behaviour but he started with the apologies and telling me he didn't mean it, he'd never do it again. He even spoke to some of my family members who, unknowingly, pressured me to get back together with him as we were "such a sweet couple". I hadn't wanted to tell them the real reason that we'd broken up so I kept the details pretty vague,though I'm pretty sure some of them had seen my step siblings post and knew why I didn't want to be with him.

After weeks of talking and planning, I had finally had enough and decided to do something about it.

My father wasn't exactly a rich man but he worked a pretty well paying job and earned enough money to live fairly comfortably. He had begun spreading rumours around when I was younger (during a custody battle with my mother) that he had set up a trust fund for me and that there was enough money there to get me set up in my own place when I was 18, plus a bit extra. I knew that this was absolute bullshit, he tried to get out of paying child support all the time, of course he'd never set up a trust fund for me. However, Jake didn't.

We'd never spoken about it a lot but he'd heard the rumours and I'd just always say what I told you folks, my father was an appalling parent who grudged paying my mother child support so why the hell would he set up a trust fund. But Jake wouldn't listen, he even did his own research into the type of job my father worked and came up with an estimate of how much he thought my father was earning. Though, to his credit, he did drop the subject whenever I asked him to, for a while anyways.

I decided to use this to my advantage. Jake and I were still dating though I avoided him at any chance I got. Until one night where I sat him down and told him that since I'd be turning eighteen in a couple of weeks, I'd started thinking about us getting our own place. With the trust fund my father had set up for me. He immediately cheered up at this and honestly I think that night was the first time in months that he'd said anything nice to me when we weren't in public or with friends/family. This very nearly made me want to call the whole thing off but I spoke with David later that night and he reminded me that Jake would go back to his usual degrading attitude in no time.

We started looking at flats, though Jake was "kind enough" to let me have the final say and handle the paperwork (because how could he possibly go out and cheat on me if he had to sort out the paperwork for a flat). I was a little surprised by this to be very honest as I'd always thought that he'd want his name on the paperwork and everything so I couldn't kick him out. But by this point he'd slept with my step sibling, degraded me, smashed my self confidence to pieces and cheated on me regularly, I think by now he thought that I wouldn't kick him out no matter what he did.

Anyways, I started taking up extra shifts at work to try and save enough money to actually move out. Not with Jake though, oh no. I was moving in with my friend, Emma. We had both been thinking about moving out for a while anyways and though, why not just be roommates. We found a cute little one bedroom flat that was close to our college and work and started getting stuff sorted to move in. I also didn't want to bring any trouble to my mothers door if Jake started kicking up a fuss, Emma had no issues with clawing the face off him if need be and told me not to worry about him coming to our front door.

Then came the next part of the plan. I waited till a week or so before Jake and I were supposedly moving into our own flat and stole his phone for a few minutes. He'd stopped caring about leaving his phone unattended and would sometimes flat out brag about how lucky he was to be able to sleep with whoever he wanted and come home to "a little bitch" who'd make him dinner. So that day when he went for a shower, he wasn't all too bothered about taking his phone with him. Perfect.

I went onto his phone, deleted my number from his contacts and changed the name of his mm's contact as mine.

Pleased, I went to the kitchen, smashed one of the plates (it was my mother's but it was a cheap one from a local shop and I did replace it as soon as possible). I just needed a reason for him to get pissed off. An, oh boy, did he get pissed off.

His first reaction was to text me, calling me all the disgusting names under the sun. Except it wasn't me he'd texted, it was his mum. I'd texted her in advance and told her that I hoped she'd forgive me but she had to see what her son was really like. She'd never tried to defend him as much as she just hadn't known quite how bad his behaviour was. She'd actually called him out a couple of times where he'd slipped up and been harsh with me when she was there.

She. Went. Apeshit.

I never found out exactly how their argument went as she phoned him to scream at him and call him out for his shitty behaviour, finally seeing how horrible her son was. It didn't help that she'd been sent screenshots of some of the times where he'd admitted to cheating. She was absolutely disgusted by her sons behaviour and phoned me to apologise on Jake's behalf. It wasn't her fault though, he's old enough to know how to act like a damn adult. He wound up telling his mum essentially that her opinion didn't matter as he'd be moving in with me anyways.

Needless to say when he called me on Facebook (after I deleted my number from his phone) I took some satisfaction in telling him that we weren't moving in together, that the trust fund wasn't real (I'd already told him that in the past, he just refused to listen) and that I'd moved in with Emma. I was called all the sluts and whores under the sun, his voice sort of turned into white noise after a while. I told him we were over and hung up. Blocked him on everything.

He had to run back to his mum and dad, his tail between his legs, and they took him back for a little while. Though after a bit, the arguments became too much and his parents kicked him out, he stayed with a couple of friends for a few months before he managed to get his own place. His parents, especially his mother, have not been the same with him since. I still talk to his mum on occasion.

Lastly, David and I took the liberty of sending screenshots of Jake's abuse to as many of the people he'd been hooking up with as possible. A couple of sleepless nights were spent trying to track people down on Facebook. Part of it was to get back at Jake but most of it was just to make sure that none of them got roped into a full on relationship with him and had to deal with all the crap I'd gone through.

So there it is, my little story of pro revenge. I know this is really long so there's a tldr below. I wasn't ever planning on posting my story but I was scrolling through Facebook the other day and one of Jake's new accounts popped up on the People You May Now section. After talking with Emma about it, she suggested posting it here, I hope it fits in this subreddit. Bye :)

Ah, the royal couple of Mortal Kombat apart from Sub-Zero/Scorpion. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything Liutana-centric, so let’s get into it:

Who cries when someone dies in a movie – If the hero’s lover, family member or best friend dies, then it’s Liu Kang who cries; if it’s like a motherly figure, a star-crossed couple or a child who dies, then it’s Kitana. Either way, expect one of them to have tissues tucked away in their pockets.

Who wears the ugly holiday garb – Only Kitana manages to look decently stunning in those ugly sweaters; Liu-liu just gets laughed at by Kung Lao and Johnny Cage.

Who pays for the meals – Who needs to pay for meals when you’re the queen of Outworld/Edenia, and you’ve got a five-star personal chef on hand to make the meals for you and your man? However, if they do dine out, expect Liu Kang to offer to pay for their meals, or at least split the costs. Also, Liu-liu seems to be the type who buys good quality food from a shop (after saving up his stipends), takes Kitana to the countryside and prepares a lovely picnic for her.

Who slams the oven door and who plays the trombone – Oh no, Kitana would never. She won’t stand for that kind of nonsense in her house palace (“Attempt to do so, dear Liu Kang, and you may find yourself being fed to a tree in the Living Forest” “Sounds less painful than being forced to watch one of Johnny’s abysmal films”).

Who brings home stray animals – Most likely Liu Kang, who takes pity on these animals roaming around on the streets, starving and unloved and in need of a home. It’s a soft side that Kitana enjoys seeing, and she’s more than willing to help Liu-liu take care of the animal in question and help find a home for it.

Who leaves the bathroom door open – Admittedly, Liu Kang has done it a few times (due to his being used to living on his own before shacking up with Kitana). It surprises Kitana every time and perhaps makes her a little excited if he’s just stepped out of the shower …

Who tells the ‘dad jokes’ – It’s more like Liu-liu attempting to explain to Kitana what “dad jokes” are, and failing miserably. She just laughs at him anyway.

Who wants kids more – They’re in no particular rush to have children; when they’re ready and willing, they’ll go for it. Liu-liu would enjoy playing with them and teaching them valuable life lessons, while Kitana is eager to give them the best lives possible, and both would go to the ends of Earthrealm and Outworld combined to protect their children.

Who travels more – *Disregards their revenant status and MK11′s plot for five seconds* As the ruler of Outworld or an independent Edenia, Kitana regularly travels between realms and various regions to maintain relations, trade, etc. Liu-liu is most likely assisting Raiden at the Sky Temple or the elder monks at the Wu Shi Academy.

Who spends more cash – Kitana. Hers is a lifestyle that is maintained by a lot of coins. However, you can expect her to give away large portions of her personal funds to underprivileged persons or services that go towards aiding her people.

Who buys the things in infomercials – “Liu Kang, is it true that this appliance can chop onions for you? And that this product can transform vegetables into noodles?” Seriously, Kitana is a real-life Ariel when it comes to infomercial gadgets and thingamabobs from Earthrealm. Poor Liu-liu can barely get her to change her mind about buying these damn things.

Who draws in the dust on their cars – If for some odd reason that Kitana has a car, then goodness knows she’s not going to get that thing dusty. Same with Liu Kang – he’s not about that riding-dirty life.

Who starts the snowball fights – Imagine Liu Kang teaching Kitana how to make snowballs; five minutes later, Kitana’s the one launching the snowballs and starting an all-out war. Any snowballs thrown at her, she’ll slice ‘em with her fans. She’ll most likely win the fight, too.

Who throws away the directions to things – Neither. They do things by the bloody book. They’re not like Johnny Cage who tries and fails to improvise.

Who puts up holiday decor – Liu Kang. To celebrate Chinese holidays and occasions, he’ll put up decorations and ornaments like they did back at the academy. Kitana would naturally lend a hand, learning about the significance of these decorations/ornaments, the holidays/occasions being celebrated, and growing closer to the Shaolin monk in the process.

Who is more likely to forget to bathe – Neither. They’ve been taught to keep themselves clean. Unless an exhausted Liu-liu forgets to bathe after an intense training session, then expect Kitana to throw him – clothes and all – into a big ol’ bath.

Who gets more obsessed about things – Maintaining order and decorum, as well as sustaining their relationship, is extremely important to them both. If it comes down to running the realm and making sure everything goes smoothly, then it’s Kitana; Liu Kang will most likely be thingy about upholding honour, morals and values.

Who sings in the shower more often – Probably Liu Kang, though he’ll deny it despite leaving the bathroom door wide open for Kitana to hear … and see.

Al Capone was busted for tax evasion. Leona Helmsley was, too. But gangsters and entitled millionaires aren’t the only ones who hold something back from the tax man. Each year, Americans of all stripes underpay the IRS by hundreds of billions, aided by the fact that the agency lacks the resources to catch all the cheaters.

Recently, tax dodging has found a new champion: liberal state governments fighting back against the Republicans’ far-reaching tax reforms, which seem to hit a number of blue states particularly hard. New Jersey and California want to reclassify certain state and local taxes as tax-exempt charitable donations, while New York might swap the state’s income tax for a deductible payroll tax, among other ideas under consideration. There’s little doubt about the underlying goal of these potential changes, nicely summarized by Connecticut’s state revenue commissioner when he called his state’s plan a “bit of payback for what I think was the utter disregard of the Congress for the impact of this on states like Connecticut.”

Republicans, for their part, have long blessed other ways of avoiding paying taxes. When Hillary Clinton challenged then-candidate Donald Trump during the first presidential debate for not paying income taxes, he responded: “That makes me smart.” And by cutting funding for audits and enforcement, his party has made it easier for people and companies to fudge their returns.

The bipartisan flirtation with avoiding taxes, through both legal and illegal means, threatens a tax system that is already bringing in historically low levels of revenue and that pays for everything from social security to military preparedness. Three foes in particular are enabling tax dodgers, making their ploys more common and more damaging: reduced support for the IRS, new incentives for people to become cheaters and widening partisan distrust.

Foe No. 1: A weakened IRS

There may be no purer example of D.C. dysfunction than the effort to underfund the IRS. That’s because the IRS isn’t like other agencies; when you cut its funding, you actually lose money.

Every dollar devoted to the IRS budget generates four to five dollars in new revenue, according to statements and congressional testimony from former IRS chief John Koskinen. That’s because a portion of each dollar goes to paying auditors, updating computer tracking systems and otherwise expanding the agency’s ability to collect unreported money from taxpayers.

While this argument may sound self-serving coming from the head of the IRS, recent history seems to confirm Koskinen’s view. IRS funding has been cut substantially in recent years, from over $13 billion in 2010 to roughly $11 billion in 2016.1 And those cuts have set off a chain reaction of underenforcement and undercollection — including a 30 percent cut in “key enforcement occupations,” which has translated into fewer audits.

Specifically, that $2.2 billion funding cut between 2010 and 2016 coincided with an $8.6 billion decline in revenue from audits and investigations.

What’s more, this figure may actually understate the real losses because audits also have spillover effects. After being audited, tax filers tend to change their behavior, increasing compliance to avoid future investigations, according to a study conducted in Denmark. Recent research has also found that when businesses are visited directly by the IRS, other firms who use the same tax preparer also pay slightly more in taxes. With fewer IRS agents taking to the field, these indirect benefits don’t accrue.

Foe No. 2: Small businesses cheat, and tax reform fosters them

Tax evasion isn’t for everyone. Salaried workers who get regular paychecks and a W-2 form have fewer opportunities for it. The IRS simply knows too much about their pay, having gotten regular updates from their employer — not to mention regular payments via withholding.

Instead, the biggest cheaters are the ones for whom it’s easiest. And that tends to be on the business side, with an outsize role for smaller and less bureaucratic outfits — particularly small shops with single owners, self-employed freelance consultants and other independent contractors.

In these businesses (whose owners are generally referred to as “sole proprietors” or “nonfarm proprietors”), the people earning the income are the same ones who decide what information to share with the IRS. There is no third party — an employer or investment manager — to pass those details along in a non-self-interested way. And while the owner-workers are still expected to report every dollar they get from clients, along with a fair accounting of appropriate deductions, that doesn’t always happen.

The effect can be dramatic. The IRS regularly performs a “tax gap” analysis — comparing tax filings against census and other third-party data to estimate underreported and missing income. In 2008-2010, the most recent period for which the IRS has published this analysis, nonfarm proprietors underreported their taxable incomes by an average of 64 percent. And while they accounted for around 15 percent of all individual income tax returns, they were responsible for nearly 30 percent of all underreported dollars.2

Looking ahead, there’s reason to fear that the new tax bill will only make the situation worse. Among its key provisions is a sizable tax break for these sole proprietorships and other so-called “pass-through” businesses (non-corporate businesses whose profits are distributed among owners and recorded as a form of personal income).

This tax advantage functions as a kind of incentive, encouraging more people to file as sole proprietors in order to claim the new deduction. That in of itself is entirely legal, and in some cases could spur entrepreneurship as people jump at the lower-cost chance to start their own small businesses. But it would also mean more people moving from the well-regulated world of paystubs to the tax-evasion-rich world of self-reporting, providing easier paths to tax cheating for more people. Some workers could even use creative accounting to pretend that they are independent contractors in order to take advantage of such opportunities.

Foe No. 3: Partisanship

Norms matter, too, when it comes to tax evasion. Comparative studies of different tax systems have found that people are more likely to pay when they have faith in their government — and the overall fairness of its tax system.

This is a two-part problem for the United States. First, residents don’t have much faith in the U.S. government: Polls show that levels of trust hover around 20 percent, close to historic lows. Second, rising partisanship makes this trust problem harder to solve, because it means that whoever takes office will face opposition from a stalwart and sizable population of distrusting voters loyal to the other party.

The U.S. tax system hangs in the balance. A recent working paper from a team of university and government economists found that tax evasion is indeed wired — like a light switch — to the partisan outcome of presidential elections. The results suggest that when George W. Bush claimed the presidency in 2000, people in heavily Republican counties became more tax-compliant and suddenly started revealing more of their income to the IRS; ditto for heavily Democratic counties after Barack Obama’s election.3

And what was the source of this extra income, hidden from view until a friendly president assumed the Oval Office? Using proprietary data from the IRS, the researchers were able to show that more income was suddenly reported from those same under-inspected sources, including sole proprietors and other pass-through businesses.

Also, while you might expect these swings between Democratic and Republican tax evasion to balance out over time, that’s not guaranteed. If polarization continues to increase, it could be that each election produces a new level of evasion as ever more people on each side look to hide income from presidents they distrust.

One crucial piece of information is still missing in all this: How much are people currently concealing, year in and year out? The IRS makes that calculation as part of its “tax gap” reports, but that means that the most recent data, from 2008-2010, reflects a time when funding cuts were only beginning and the new Republican tax bill was barely a glimmer in the eye of current House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Even in 2008-2010, the share of taxable income being secreted from view was at its highest level since the mid-1980s, at 18.3 percent, although the IRS attributes part of this increase to technical changes in how it creates its estimates. Only the IRS knows for sure whether people have continued to hide more money from tax collectors since then, but apart from a few preliminary calls from legislators for extra funding to help the IRS oversee the latest tax reform package, there has been no effort to stop it. Quite the contrary, the foes of tax compliance have only gathered strength.

They have proved invaluable in the current pandemic where face-to-face contact should be avoided. The user can still receive the service they need without anyone’s health being in danger, so the video service is actually saving lives.

Furthermore, in the recent lockdowns it was exactly video services that provided a financial lifeline to thousands of people. For example, in a family of a plumber and a teacher, the plumber is completely unable to work during a lockdown. The teacher though can still offer private lessons online and this allows them to keep paying the bills.

For users, the rise of online services means that we have far more options to choose from than before. You no longer need your fitness instructor to live in your neighbourhood – as long as they are not 9 time zones away, their service is yours to grab. We now move between countries more than ever before, and while you can’t always be close to your favourite hairdresser, your trusted doctor is still there for you.

City authorities also welcome the rise of online services as they are reducing the traffic burden on their streets and the CO2 emissions that we all have to pay for. According to a Carbon Trust study, during the COVID lockdown, carbon emissions from fuel consumption fell by 41% in the UK. How much of that is due to online services we still don’t know. But as they gain more popularity, they may well be one key to curbing our carbon footprint.

How popular are online services exactly?

Online services are just starting to gain global popularity. The most developed type of online service is telemedicine (a.k.a. telehealth). In 2019 the telemedicine market amounted to $45bn and is expected to grow to more than $175bn in the next 6 years.

The main chunk of telehealth service seems to be online GP consultations. This is a ray of hope in the fight against medical care shortages around the world. However, they still have a lot of untapped potential to show. According to the American Medical Association, until recently only about 15% of GPs in the US used telemedicine tools regularly. The pandemic however has changed that and today, the number of inpatient visits has gone down significantly. As of May 2020, 85% of practices in the UK were offering online consultations.

Other online services also saw a massive rise in popularity in the days of the pandemic. British fitness influencer Joe Wicks became the nation’s favourite PE teacher in no time. His daily YouTube workout streams averaged about 800,000 views per session and he now has about 2.56 million followers.

Lockdown even created new ways for us to have fun. Since gatherings were only happening via video conferencing, people started hiring gig entertainers to bring a special effect to their event. Entertainers perform in Zoom parties organised by companies for their employees or by friends as a special birthday celebration. These are also really convenient for groups of people who are at a long-distance from each other and have long struggled to effectively socialize.

Lainey Gossip just gave everyone something to think about.

That said, focusing on just that one part of Angela Levy’s article, based on nearly a year of observing of Harry and speaking to him regularly, might be unfair. To be fair, perhaps the counterpoint to that ill-worded statement about no one wanting to be king or queen and preferring to be “normal” and “ordinary” is to consider how Harry’s privilege, while advantageous almost all the time, actually failed him in one big way – when Princess Diana died:

“My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television,” he tells Newsweek . His face hardens. “I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today.”

Harry was asked to do that, officially, by the family. Unofficially, though, if we are honest, he was compelled to do it by the public. The world felt so personally invested in Diana’s passing, it was almost as though we demanded to see our collective grief personified and performed by two boys, 15 and 12, who’d just lost their mother. Let’s not pretend that we didn’t want those close-ups of Harry’s card, “Mummy”, his handwriting unmistakably childlike, placed on the bed of flowers that sat atop her coffin. Let’s not pretend that the sight of them, walking with their heads down during the procession, didn’t comfort us in some way when, really, who would have needed more comforting? During that tragedy, their inherited duty required them to indulge our need to participate in their personal loss. William and Harry weren’t the ones who were entitled in that situation. Weren’t we the ones who felt entitled?

Lainey’s right. Wasn’t it the public that was angry at The Queen for not comforting them? Instead The Queen staying at Balmoral, with her grandsons—who had just lost their mother.

When Diana died, the public acted like they lost a close relative. When in reality, they didn’t personally know Diana. And yet, her two sons, unfortunately, had to play a public role in the immediate aftermath of her death.

So, is Prince Harry’s version of a “normal” life a little skewed? Yes.

Like Lainey said, where Prince Harry, personally, getting groceries is something “ordinary” and “normal”. Where everyone else is concerned, it is a part of our day-to-day life. It is a task. A chore. We need to go grocery shopping because we have no one else who would do it for us.

Also, I would much rather have Prince Harry’s personal, honest and candid interviews. I prefer that over the carefully, impersonal crafted statements that The Cambridges (really just Kate Middleton) give.

Prince Harry’s greatest asset is that he doesn’t allow himself to be a robot. He shows us that he is human. And like every human he is fallible. So, why is it that the media, and general public (well mainly media/press) want perfection? Yet, at the same time say they “love” Prince Harry because he is human.

When the media/press seemingly gets “perfection” they complain about it? They’re too boring. There is not life to them, no spontaneity. They seem out-of-touch. They are robotic, stuffy, vapid, grand…

People can’t have it both ways. Yes, the British Monarchy is funded by the British taxpayer. However, that does not give the taxpayer the right to say what types of personality the members of the Monarchy should have.

What you see with Harry, is what you get. I for one wouldn’t have it any other way. Perfection is overrated. It is unattainable. It isn’t real. Prince Harry is real. Shouldn’t that be enough?
