after being on the hellscape that is Twitter and reading hot take after hot take now I literally want to write an miniature essay about HoTD and character resemblance to Greek mythology figures and how Helaena being a dreamer in the show is—while not from the source material and an ability that could have reasonably been given to another character—an intentional detail meant to both further flesh out the Greens AND illustrate their incompetence as a family unit + their ideologically conservative ties that mimic right-wing propaganda. In this essay I will—

I know people like to say that Helaena is like Cassandra, but Daemon is the real Cassandra of the show. My guy was calling out everyone's bullshit since episode 1, if they had listened to him the Dance could have been avoided. But he is Cassandra, therefore no one did.

"Cot recreated the image of a woman who was breaking and deciding if she would take her own life. Hence the alternate title Pause for Thought. Ophelia was not mentally sound by the end of Hamlet and you can see that in the eyes of Cot’s Ophelia, unlike Millais and Cabanel’s."

haunt me, girlies | hunt me, girlies - the babes of (they say i killed you, haunt me then)
Wylla Karstark - wife to Prince Aemond and Princess of House Targaryen. She hails from Karhold in the far reaches of the North. If you tell her something she doesn't like, she will bite you, and call you the most scathing insult you've ever heard in your life.
Helaena Targaryen - Queen of the Seven Kingdoms and wife to King Aegon II Targaryen. She hails from King's Landing. While known as pleasant and dreamy, she will absolutely let a spider loose in your bed if you fuck with her. And probably feed you to her dragon.
Abrogail Strong - The king's mistress and Lady of Harrenhal. She hails from Harrenhal in the Riverlands, though she has spent her life in King's Landing. She has perfected the "I can't believe you just had the audacity to say that to me" look and will wither you with a glance.
Allana Tyrell - Mistress of Whispers to Aemond Targaryen and wife of Lord Durran Morrigen (and secret girlfriend of Roslyn Blackwood). She hails from Highgarden in the Reach. She will know everything she needs to know about you in the span of five minutes, judge you for it, and have no qualms about using it to ruin your life if you mess with her or her friends. Don't let that face fool you.
Roslyn Blackwood - lady to Princess Wylla (and secret girlfriend of Allana Tyrell). She hails from Raventree Hall in the Riverlands and has never forgotten that Northern magic flows in her veins. She'll lure you in with that sweet demeanor and then sic her girlfriend on you if you act up. She also talks shit about you in Old Tongue.
Cassandra Baratheon - (sort of) heir to Storm's End. She hails from Storm's End in the Stormlands. "Ours Is The Fury" was written with Cassandra in mind. Secrets are her currency and she is not afraid to straight up murder a child.
Jemma Lannister - lady to Queen Helaena. She hails from Casterly Rock in the Westerlands and don't think for one second she isn't proto-Cersei. She has no qualms about assisting her bestie in child murder.
Lysa Fossoway - lady to Queen Helaena. She hails from Cider Hall in the Reach. Though unassuming, she schemes with the best of them, and again, does not shy away from of child murder or any other number of girl code war crimes.

It all goes back and back…to our mothers and fathers and theirs before them. We are puppets dancing on the strings of those who came before us, and one day our own children will take up our strings and dance in our steads. — A Storm of Swords

“Up there on that roof there sits a chorus — it never leaves. They sing in harmony, but the song is harsh, predicting doom.
Drinking human blood has made them bold — they dance in celebration through the house.

Your daily reminder that we were robbed of the Four Storms - Cassandra, Maris, Ellyn, & Floris Baratheon - and witnessing their dynamic by how they interacted with Aemond and Lucerys.
You hear me, ROBBED.

some bonus Helaena POV from this week's chapter. Also Floris Baratheon is my favorite of all time. She's aged up here (she should technically be like, 8 years old, I bumped her up to 10 for Plot Reasons)
She felt Cassandra’s eyes fall on her critically, not unlike other ladies at court. Helaena had grown used to their gazes and the fact she did not fit the mold of a princess. She was not vibrant the way stories of her elder sister painted her - The Realm’s Delight, laughing and shining and riding and dancing. Helaena was quiet, far preferring the solitude of the garden to being in crowds but she made every effort to be nice, to be friendly, and while she’d never heard a whisper about some perceived cruelty, Helaena felt as if she couldn’t quite get it. The way Cassandra Baratheon looked at her, a golden necklace made up of antlers, that even a good week in a carriage could not take away how utterly put together she looked. How much of a princess she looked. ‘Sharp and soothing,’ Helaena thought. ‘The mint winds and chokes like ivy. The children can’t breathe, it’s bursting from their mouths.’ She blinked, shifting, and her shoulder brushed against Aemond’s where he was a warm presence beside her. His mouth was pressed in his usual stern expression but at her movement, he lifted a hand to touch between her shoulder blades. Helaena straightened, a smile soft on her face. She did not need a crown or a herald to announce her place. “It is our pleasure to welcome you both to King’s Landing. I hope that your journey wasn’t too difficult,” Helaena said, pushing past the urge to scream nonsense and make scary faces at them both to send them running all the way back to Storm’s End. “We saw a bear!” Floris exclaimed with bright excitement. “Didn’t we, Cass? It was huge! I thought the guards were going to kill it but they managed to chase it-”
