Cannot emphasize enough how much I, as a fan artist and fan-designer/crafter, appreciate it when authors give characters convenient symbols to represent them by. It opens up vastly broader avenues of craft and art making.

Can we confirm that Zeus loves his virgin daughters more than he loves even his own wife?
Artemis got gifted with a bow made from Hephestious. Athena got to hold his thunder. Artemis recieved the 20 Nymphs and sea daughters and some light powers. Athena was held to a higher standard of war than Ares.
They were both granted the title of eternal virgins.

Decided to do my own theoi tree this year inspired by @thepastelpriestess so here are the ornaments I found for my tree.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Poseidon Demeter and Ares
Athena and Dionysus
Apollo and Artemis
Hephestis Aphrodite and Hermes (I added wings to a shoe ornament and love how it looks)
Hestia Persephone and Hades (I repainted a sugar skull for Hades I like it better)
I also plan to get something for Hecate as soon as possible

Queen’s Thief fandom, I need HELP. Having re-read The Thief for the second time, this time with the assistance of the lovely new map in Thick As Thieves, I am more confused about geography than ever.
The thing that’s bothering me the most is this: where the hECK is the river fortress that they escape from, and what side of what river are they on at any given point as they head towards Eddis?
First of all, as far as I can tell, Gen&co. were captured at the base of the mountains, a few hours from Kahlia, and that they were then transported in carts for quite a while to the prison, which sits in the middle of the Seperchia (pg. 239). They cross a bridge into town, but we don’t know which side of the river the town is on.
Let me marshal the textual evidence in chapters 11 and 12, cross-checking everything with the map:
pg. 242-3 - “The river is running the wrong way.” “We haven’t been following the river downstream toward the pass. We’ve been going upstream.” “We were on the far side of the dystopia from the Sea of Olives.” “As far as the magus knew, there might be no bridges at all before the dystopia ran into the foot of the mountains, where we would be trapped.” Okay, so the magus thought they were following the Seperchia northwest towards Sounis, when in fact it seems they are following the Aracthus northeast toward the Hephestial Mountains and the capital of Eddis. So I’m guessing the prison must have been right at the point where the Aracthus and the Seperchia meet?? There is some ambiguity as to which side of the river they’re on.
pg. 244 - “’We could hide in the dystopia for a while,’ suggested Sophos. ‘We could cross it and go back through the Sea of Olives.’ ... ‘We couldn’t get across the Aracthus.’” Okay, so now it seems to be implied that they are on the far side of the Aracthus from the dystopia and Sea of Olives--the east side, which is also the side of the river that the capital of Eddis is on, according to the map.
pg. 247 - “We were rising above the river; the bank grew steeper until it was dropping straight down...To the left of the trail the stones were piled even higher.” Weirdly, this seems to imply that the river is to their right, which would mean that they were walking north along the west bank of the Aracthus.
pg. 249 - “’There’s a bridge.’” Okay, so since they seem to be on the west bank of the Aracthus--in which case there’s no good reason why they couldn’t have just cut back west across the dystopia to the Sea of Olives, but whatever--they are now trying to cross to the east bank.
pg. 250 - “All of the water of the Seperchia had to squeeze between these banks.” Whoa what?? Where did the Seperchia come from? What part of the Seperchia could they possibly be walking upstream along if they are walking north towards the mountains along the east edge of the dystopia?
pg. 252 - “The Seperchia nearly dragged him down.” Okay so this is apparently the Seperchia, in which case I have no idea where on the map we are at the moment. I’m just going to ignore that and pretend it’s the Aracthus for the time being because that makes a lot more geographical sense.
pg. 253 - “We had left the dystopia behind on the far side of the river.” Great, this supports the theory that they were on the west bank of the Aracthus and have now crossed to the east bank.
pg. 254 - I’m not going to bother with quotes, but they’re definitely still heading upstream and also north towards the mountains.
pg. 255-6 - “The river ran beside us through a chasm...Its far bank was a cliff face that lifted straight up to the shoulders of the mountains...Our road ended in a bridge, and without discussion we started across it.” “There was a ledge on the far side of the bridge. At the back of it a squat tower defended a gate that closed off a cleft in the cliff face.” So now I’m super confused again. Did they cross back to the west bank of the river?
pg. 258 - “As the horses crossed under the gate, I saw carved griffons overhead...I dreamt of rock walls moving past on either side and heard in my sleep the crashing of the ponies’ hooves as they climbed teh stone roadway that ran up the cleft in the mountains, cut by the Aracthus before its path had changed. When we reached the palace...” So so so! They cross the river on a stone bridge that leads to a gate in the cliff, then they continue through the gate and through the cleft in the cliff straight to the Eddisian palace. Based on previous evidence, it seems like they are moving west at this point. Again, this makes no sense based on the map, as the capital city of Eddis is supposed to be east of the Aracthus, and to the west they should run straight into the Sacred Mountain.
???
One possible solution to the conundrum is that the map is wrong, and the Seperchia, like the Aracthus, actually flows south from Eddis (from some point just east of the capital city) before turning southwest to flow through Attolia and then back up to Sounis in the northwest. They’ve been following the Seperchia north along the east edge of the dystopia this whole time, first along the west bank, then the east bank, and finally crossing back to the west bank as they enter Eddis. The Aracthus runs parallel to the Seperchia at this point but is farther west, flowing through the dystopia, and runs into the Seperchia when the larger river turns southwest. I can’t remember if this contradicts any geographical information we’re given elsewhere in the book or series.
I’m somewhat new here, so if this is a Known Problem in the fandom, sorry to dredge up old issues again. If I’m reading something wrong and someone can explain what’s going on here, please help me out!

This started as me drawing random objects and morphed into a conglomeration of various queen’s thief special objects. See captions for labels/explanations.

Dear @meganwhalenturner, (and Queen’s Thief fan friends!)
I am finally giving in to the lure of entering the contest despite the fact that collecting ARCs is hazardous to my bookshelves’ health when I insist on buying the published book, as well.
These yarns are my form of fanart. The top is “Parade of Sashes”:
"That waistband doesn't go with that coat." "As you have already noted, I was late." ...his coat was yellow, and so was the waistband, but the shades were not the same. "My attendants have triumphed this morning in their quest to make me look foolish." ..."Perhaps if you did not order your clothes in colors that would suit a canary?"
The second is my Costis yarn, maybe one of my top favorites despite it’s modest appearance. The white wool had this great texture that lent itself to a homespun look (if you pardon the meta) and if you look close there’s some brassy gold for buckles and what-have-you. Also some tiny bits of royal purples and blues.
Soldier-farmboy Costis with hidden officer qualities...am I stretching this too far?
The last is “Journey of Secrets”, unsatisfactorily titled, but cunningly crafted to match the river landscape of the Aracthus temple in The Thief--including streaks of jet with hairline cracks of white in it.
"This is it," he said. "This is what?" I asked. "This is where you earn your reputation." I looked around at the empty rock and river and the sandy soil under my feet. As far as I could see, there was nothing to steal, nothing at all.
So excited to have a new book coming in my birthmonth!
(and some may remember a collaboration I did with a friend from Sounis with this yarn: Spring in the Hephestial Mountains which was made into a shawl that had a sort of landscape pattern that does not show up well in this photo but was cool!)
It’s been a while since I did a yarn for the series. Hmmmmmmm.
