a thought occurred to me last night.

when it comes to the two being harmed, if it's reparable damage, Hannibal doesn't exactly go out of his way to prevent it.

and i had an idea about, sometime post fall, if someone dangerous was interrogating one to find out where the other is. and how, at that point, Will would probably go through some amount of torture before giving that information up, and then he'd hope that Hannibal can handle himself fine enough to deal with it, because surely he can, right?

and upon thinking that, i realized the same could not be said the other way around.

Hannibal will put Will's life in danger if he thinks Will can handle it. he'll send someone his way, or send him someone's way, and he won't even consider Will getting hurt. the incident with Tobias didn't fix that, because he then sent Randall Tier to Will's house.

so i'm just imagining Will, injured and bloody and beaten, likely needing another while of recovery, finding out that the man tending to his wounds allowed it to happen without hesitation. they asked, he told. it was easy for him.

and i picture Will laying there, unable to do much on his own and very much in need of recovery, completely silent as Hannibal mends the wounds and watches their healing, silent to the point Hannibal probably thinks he's gone nonverbal because surely Will wouldn't just choose not to speak to him. not now, not after everything. but all Will can think of is how he probably would've gone through some amount of pain before giving up Hannibal's location, and the sting of the realization that it's not the same vice versa makes his fresh wounds ache.

at that point, he wants nothing more than to leave their little house, and he's still debating if he'd come back. but for now, he'll settle on silence, on listening to the way his emotions make him too nauseous to eat properly. for now, he'll settle for forcing the man to worry about him.

clearly he wasn't worried before.

Hannibal hugging Abigail was healing for him as well. And I think we are not talking enough about the Hannibal-Abigail parallel.

They both started committing murders from a young age (please watch Hannibal Rising if you didn't) and they were both orphaned from a young age (this is something Will mentioned too).

Abigail starts killing because of her dad's influence while Hannibal starts killing to get revenge for what was done to his sister so essentially both of them learnt they had a certain affinity for murder because of a family member whom they loved until the very end.

I think that Hannibal sees Mischa in Abigail but I also think he sees himself in Abigail. His young self at least. When she says she is a monster and he hugs her, he tells her she is not a monster because he knows real monsters. Real monsters were those who killed and ate his sister.

He then says "you're a victim" and that is why I'm saying that hug was healing. He is telling this to Abigail but this is also true about his young self as well. He was a victim too. He is the produce of nature (quoting Will now: they left him to die but he didn't) but he is also the consequence of the horrible thing that was done to him. And he sees the same thing in Abigail.

I'm very happy they had that little moment and I'm not surprised they bonded so well, their trauma was something Will could understand a lot better later in the series.
