HOLY HONEY SHROOMS!!!

The campus was absolutely COVERED in honey mushrooms after the weekend's rain!!! I found over 40 clusters across 3 separate sites and I didn't even search the whole grounds. I was wondering when my fungal classmates were going to pop up and say hi!

I was squatting in the mud and climbing over short retaining walls like a madman and I'm sure people were questioning my sanity but who cares. This was an amazing day! Far from the only species I found so I'll be posting more later!

It's Armillaria tabescens season! Ringless Honey Mushrooms, one of my favorite wild edible mushrooms. Collected this load today, going back tomorrow for more. There were about half a dozen little baby bunches coming up in the same locale.

Never eat a wild food that you are not 120% sure of. I've been foraging for 20 years.

The rain did not disappoint! My first time seeing honey mushrooms! I was so excited to find these little clusters.

I almost brought some home but they were absolutely full of these tiny bugs and I was scared they might infest my basket. Realistically, I could have just stuck it in the freezer to get rid of them but I was being paranoid about my new basket. 😅

I need to line it properly then maybe I'll chill.
