thinking about finarfin time loop/generally how elves might percieve a time loop fic possibility again

it's again that time of the year when i see these gorgeous american amusement or theme parks have high quality and budget halloween decorations and scare actors and i'm filled with jealousy, yearning, etc.

I do believe intrusive thoughts come in various genres and shades.

There's violent ones. There's taboo ones. There's impulsive ones (because yes, it has enough overlap with violent/dangerous thoughts to make those be potentially another, if milder, form of them. L'appel du vide IS still uncomfortable, even if you have full awareness of it happening.)

I think ITs can be associated with trauma - like flashbulbs of What Happened.

I think some ITs can be tinged by grief, too. Thoughts that don't help one be compassionate to oneself. The should/could/woulds that haunt and threaten to take away your joy and precious energy. Despite rationally knowing that what is done is done. You did the best you could with the information you had at the time. There's no use in excoriating yourself over it.

It's trite to tag this with Remus. But that last part kinda inspired me to write this and contemplate on the whole gamut of ITs Remus could produce. Just using the guy as a reflection/expression tool (like lots of SaSi fans already do.)

I’m so mad I just watched the first episode of Hornblower. Only now! After finishing my dissertation! When my dissertation topic was literally the portrayal of epilepsy in film and television

#I’m FUMING #the guy who got cut loose? I think he’s dead (better fucking not be btw but he’s got exposure and dehydration to deal with + a head injury) #that’s a seizure! those were seizures! #and it’s implied he gets them fairly regularly???? #I know what a seizure looks and sounds like THAT was a seizure #I’m so mad. the show NEVER came up when I was looking for seizures on screen (in fiction) #I’m so mad because A- that could have added SO SO much to my paper! epilepsy/seizures in a historical WAR drama?!?? #and it’s NOT the main focus???? #and B- I missed the valid opportunity to watch the show lol #also C - it was a surprisingly GOOD portrayal! like holy fuck?? #I have had to sift through DECADES of film and TV representations of epilepsy/seizures #and most of it is. it’s really bad. they get so much wrong or just straight up dehumanise the character #I’ve seen a lot and there’s soooo many details that are just WRONG. #and yeah were both seizures scenes in Hornblower perfect? nah but they were clearly better than other ones #for example YOU DONT HIT SOMEONE ON THE HEAD WITH A TILLER HANDLE WHEN HES SEIZING #so if he didn’t die from THAT then it’s definitely starvation/exposure #holy shit actually thinking about it that character has got to wake up in a horror story #last thing he’ll remember is being on the launch boat with the crew and the NEXT is waking up in THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN ALONE #that’s scary #I’ve had so many seizures and tha. #that’s scary. even if you’re not loved from where it began it’s TERRIFYING #there was so much there I could have talked about!!!! Comic work is currently stalled, because I’ve come to realise I have zero (visual) horror movie literacy, because I hate watching media.. but I’m also very picky about what horror comics I find decent, and all of the ones that I generally use as sources pull from a lot of cinema traditions.

So slowly grinding through some movies, so that I can actually understand the references that they’re using (and that I’m pulling on in turn). Key word “slowly”, lol.

#found a couple of textbooks that break down horror cinema tradition by decade #and one that extensively covers the way through which masks have been used since the 1970's #in horror movies and the purpose of them - key shots - reoccuring themes #and the manifestation of those themes! so I am going to scour over those #because textbooks and academia are way easier #but it's still worthwhile to try and see the movies in motions - or at least clips of the key moments! #worthwhile and fucking tedious :') #d. draw
