A continuation of the thoughts from my post about AU fanfiction as modern Commedia Dell'arte - here's the sides as vaguely Commedia-esque masks. Presenting: the archetypal cast of Commedia dell'lati!

IL PRINCIPE, the prince, a more thoughtful descendant of the swaggering Il Capitano archetype. He's often seen with his distinctive red sash, and occasionally a bladed weapon. Il Principe is prideful, sometimes to a fault, and deeply romantic.

PADRE, the father, representing family values and an apparent moral compass. Often played as somewhat naive or foolish - sometimes portrayed at hiding something more devious beneath that, depending on the show and situation. He's recognizable by his fondness for wordplay, and his cheerful attitude.

INSEGNANTE, the teacher, the unlistened-to voice of reason, the provider of exposition. His misunderstandings of common metaphorical phrases are frequently the source of comic relief. It's a common plot point for him to be pushed to his limit and snap, revealing genuine emotion behind his mask of impenetrable reason.

INQUIETO, the restless one - the devil's advocate, quick to voice the negatives of a situation and recommend doing something, anything else. Often takes the role of 'jerk with a heart of gold' - frequently is the recipient of misfortune. A key part of his character is his sharp wit and sarcasm against every other member of the cast.

IL SERPENTE, the snake, is cunning and deceptive by nature. He will often emerge onto the stage in the guise of another character, having stolen their mask offstage. The inevitable reveal where he produces his true mask and slots it onto his face is always met with delighted applause. Il Serpente was originally often depicted as the villain of many productions and still sometimes is, although many recent shows have taken to treating him in a much more sympathetic light.

Finally, IL DUCO, the duke - the brother and mirrored counterpart of Il Principe. Some shows choose to tone down his original conception as a graphic and grotesque provider of foul language in order to make him easier to portray, or easier to sympathize with. Other shows turn up the crassness all the way, and make him downright villainous in nature. Il Duco is, chronologically, the most recent addition to the archetypes, but has quickly found his way into being a beloved and fascinating part of many performances.

One of the things separating the more modern Commedia dell'lati from its predecessor, Commedia dell'arte, is its willingness to play with character dynamics. The plots and settings are never certain from one show to the next, and neither are the relationships between the characters. Il Serpente and Inquieto could be in a committed relationship on one stage, and at each other's throats fighting to the death on another - although, it should be noted, the two are never mutually exclusive. Sometimes the morality of characters are black-and-white, sometimes it's all in strokes of grey, but it's all in the name of exploring new aspects of these beloved familiar archetypes.

Everything's fluid when it comes to Commedia dell'lati - but always recognizable, however distant.

But despite thinking Green Lantern showed up, she still says "Hal Jordan was going to show us some magic card tricks, weren't you, Hal?" despite like calling it lame compared to Green Lantern earlier it's just so sdlfkgjnsfgkhsnfghsfghfhdfgh

And then she almost lost interest in Green Lantern cos he wasn't hot enough like she's the funniest ever

thinking further on my response and i do think CDDs can be a spectrum more than clear cut diagnostic criteria. like just in general. like just from what ive observed & what im reading (currently working on the haunted self!) i think theres a lot of overlap in symptoms between DID, OSDD, and even C-PTSD & BPD, which makes it harder to draw a line on whether certain presentations count as one disorder or another

it's an added layer of difficulty that theres so many different ways CDDs can present. i feel like every system i meet and every system i read about has its own unique ways of presenting, which im assuming is because it's a complex series of adaptations to very specific stimuli & circumstances. but like the variance in peoples' lived experiences makes it hard to make blanket statements about systems (or even like, alter archetypes, for example)

like theres just so many ways a system can look. some people know about their alters as early they can remember & experienced them as imaginary friends or voices. some people go 20, 30+ years without realizing theyre a system at all. theres polyfrag systems with layers upon layers of subsystems and complicated inner workings. theres people whose alters have only a passing awareness of each other. and so on. Individuals might share a diagnostic label, but there might be little overlap in how they experience being a system

anyways This is a lot of rambling that's straying into different territories.. sorry my mind may not be all here LOL

at it's core we are all experiencing various levels of structural dissociation ... unity 🤝

It's important to me that Steph (Stephanie Brown) is hot. Like drop dead gorgeous bombshell BUT you wouldn't know it because she spends 99% of the time wearing her ex-boyfriend's sweatpants and a sports bra she's been stretching out since she first got boobs and nothing else. Hair up in a bun on top of her head that she actually made like 3 days ago and refuses to redo, so she just keeps tightening it. She puts effort in like 1 day out of every year for a Justice League party and people are too swept up in how beautiful she is to notice that she's tipping an entire tray of chicken wings into her clutch (zatanna made it bottomless for her as a favor). Also she knows she's hot and is incredibly confident in it and has told Dick to his face that she's the prettiest one in the family but it's nice that he puts in such an effort anyway. She always volunteers for any mission that requires flirting because "I'm everyone's type" so of course she'll succeed. However she also thinks it's funny when she overhears people playing fuck marry kill with the batgirls and they choose to kill her, so, you know. She contains multitudes.

                                         Mugetsu + Bankai Transformation

Headcanon:  5 of ???

          So after the first Quincy Invasion,  Tensa Zangetsu has broken,  which led Ichigo to the Zero Division with the others to find a way to fix it,  but also get some training done before the Quincies inevitably attacked again,  and he was in no shape to fight without his Bankai.  After suffering the revelation of Old Man Zangetsu being the manifestation of his Quincy powers,  and his Hollow being the True Zangetsu,  Ichigo was at a loss physically and emotionally.  It was a betrayal of everything he’d come to know as a Shinigami, and In order to become stronger,  he had to overcome these feelings,  and quickly.   Ichigo forgave Old Man Zangetsu,  and still wanted to fight by his side,  as his partner.  But also,  he wanted to accept and conquer the Hollow powers within his as well,  the same powers that had kept him alive all throughout the toughest battles,  the same powers that saved his life countless times.

          When reforging Zangetsu,  Ichigo did not take the route of separating his powers further by forging two Zangetsu blades,  but instead forged a single Zangetsu that combined every ounce of his power,  one that would quell all power struggles his spirits and himself could start.  This was peace within himself,  after learning all there is to know about his past,  and moving forward with complete and utter calm.  This Zangetsu would resemble the one he is seen using after the 10 year timeskip.

          After mastering the multiple swelling powers within him,  Ichigo began training with both Zangetsu’s,  once again in the combined form Tensa and Zangetsu used during his Dongai training.  With his Hollow, Quincy, Fullbring, and Shinigami powers fused into one entity,  into one Zangetsu,  the doubts of what each other wanted to protect finally cleared and ready to move forward,  they began teaching him how to control Mugetsu in a proper manner,  one that wouldn’t strip him of all power after usage.  It wouldn’t be as strong,  but it would still pack a hell of a punch against any enemy.  

          Once mastered to an extent,  Ichigo was about to combine the Mugetsu power,  as well as his Fullbring and Quincy power,  with his Bankai form.  This would alter his Bankai’s form,  turning Tensa Zangetsu into a Javelin like spear.  The armor from his Complete Fullbring would adorn his body,  covering shoulders and torso.  Finally,  the long black hair and piercing crimson eyes would complete the form.  This Tensa Zangetsu can also be used as a Quincy weapon,  firing Black Getsuga Arrows in rapid succession.  This form gives him a boost in every aspect of fighting,  and allows him to use the Mugetsu Stream,  a lesser version of the attack that incapacitated Sosuke Aizen.

          This transformation is the extent of Ichigo’s power as a Shinigami,  Hollow,  Fullbringer   and Quincy.  Instead of fractioning himself further with two Zangetsu’s,  he’s chosen the path of making his powers one complete entity,  and leaning completely into the form that reminds him most of Zangetsu.
