Meet our Dunk & Egg! ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’ Casts Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell in Lead Roles
Tumblr media
The “Game of Thrones” prequel series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” has found its leads.
The HBO series is based around the characters Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, featured in the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” books written by George R.R. Martin. Peter Claffey has been cast as Dunk, while Dexter Sol Ansell has been cast as Egg.
Variety exclusively reported the show was in development in 2021, with HBO ordering it to series in 2023. The official logline states, “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Claffey), and his diminutive squire, Egg (Ansell). Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
Martin and Ira Parker are writers and executive producers on the show. Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw also executive produce.
Claffey is a former Connacht Rugby player and actor whose past credits include the Apple TV+ series “Bad Sisters” from Sharon Horgan and the BBC Three horror comedy series “Wrecked.” Ansell made his acting debut at four years old in the ITV series “Emmerdale.” He has since starred in shows like “The Midwich Cuckoos” and “Hullraisers” and appeared in the prequel film “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.”
Martin has published three novellas in the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” series to date: “The Hedge Knight” in 1998, “The Sworn Sword” in 2003 and “The Mystery Knight” in 2010. The three novellas were then collected and published together as “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in 2015.
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is the second “Game of Thrones” prequel to be greenlit to date. The other, “House of the Dragon,” debuted its first season in 2022 with the second season set to premiere on June 16. “House of the Dragon” proved incredibly popular with audiences and was renewed less than a week after it premiered. In terms of the timeline of the world created by Martin, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” takes place roughly 100 years after the events of “House of the Dragon.”

A Very Merry Chris-Moose
Inspired by ‘One Man’s Trash’ by @greenandhazy, one of my all time favourite ChrisMas fics.
Tumblr media
I always picture this version of Thomas as ‘Love Life’ era RJC. And the Chris is of course from Hullraisers (no moustache though!).
They’ve been together a few years by this point. Chris’s rainbow pinboard is now crammed full of their favourite photos (including the cat!). Two new editions this year - an invite to Evie’s Christmas party, and a card Thomas HAD to get Chris.

Happy Birthday Emun Elliott the Scottish theatre, film and television actor.
Born in Edinburgh n 28th November 1983 as Emun Mohammadi, and brought up in Portobello, and Duddingston, his father is of Persian descent. Emun was educated at George Heriot’s School before going on to Aberdeen University and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Elliots first break was appearing in an episode of Monarch of the Glen in 2005, we then saw him in the Scottish Cop sitcom, Feel the Force.
In 2009 Elliott starred in a TV mini-series called “Paradox” in which the lab he works at as a physicist is named ‘Prometheus’ and he has a “chance’ to change the future because he has insight to the future. In Elliott’s real future. Three years later, he would star in Ridley Scott’s film named 'Prometheus’ as a character named  Chance, Mark Bonnar also starred in the series.
One off appearances in Inspector George Gently and Vera were followed up with Game of Thrones, where he played the character Marillion in four episodes. He was then in the Glasgow Drama series, Lip Service on BBC Three and another sitcom Threesome. His biggest role to date was arguably in the BBC period drama, The Paradise, where he played John Moray, the shop’s owner. We saw him in the 2017 series Trust Me, which was set in his home town Edinburgh and starred Jodie Whittaker. Elliot also cropped up in the latest Kingsmen movie last year.
Emun appeared in the dark comedy drama Guilt an excellent series, where he again teamed up with Mark Bonnar. Fresh Meat and Gary: Tank Commander star Greg McHugh, the lovely Phyllis Logan, featured in the second series, the third and final season is being filmed in Scotland just now, and should be on our screens next year.
The past year Emun showed up in the sitcom  Hullraisers and a British indie film, Phea. Emun has a few irons in the fire as well as Guilt,  Walking to Paris, I mentioned last year is still in post production, but a trailer was released in the spring, The Peter Greenaway film, set in the early 1900s, the story takes place when Brancusi was 27-year-old and follows his 18-month trek from Bucharest to Paris to reach the metropolis of world culture.  Northern Comfort is also in post production and co-stars the excellent Timothy Spall. He is also filming  The Gold a TV Series with fellow Scot  Jack Lowden, the BBC drama will  tell the story of the Brink's-Mat robbery.  And finally one I am really looking forward to is a prequel, a Paramount+ series called Sexy Beast, it  will track the origin story of the Gal Dove, originally played brilliantly by Ben Kingsley.

Casting news about Dunk & Egg.
Peter Claffey (Bad Sisters) and Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) have landed the two lead roles in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the next Thrones spinoff series to follow House of the Dragon, Entertainment Weekly can exclusively report. The prequel is based on author George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas and is set about a century before the events of Game of Thrones. Claffey will star as "Dunk," a.k.a. Ser Duncan the Tall, a young, naïve, and courageous knight; and Ansell will star as "Egg," the nickname for Duncan's diminutive squire. [ ... ] Claffey, a former Connacht Rugby player in Ireland, made his stage debut at Dublin's Abbey Theatre in A Whistle in the Dark by Tom Murphy. He was seen in 2022's Bad Sisters and Wreck, and he's set to star opposite Cillian Murphy in Small Things Like These and to appear in season 3 of Vikings: Valhalla. Ansell, now 9 years old, started his acting career at the age of 4 on ITV's 2019 show Emmerdale. His credits include Sky's thriller series The Midwich Cuckoos and Netflix's comedy film Christmas on Mistletoe Farm, but he more recently portrayed a younger Coriolanus Snow in last year's The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Ansell also has roles lined up in The Moor, Channel 4's Hullraisers, and Robin and The Hood.
I think that Art Parkinson was just 9 when he was chosen to portray Rickon Stark. Though Rickon was not really that major a character throughout GoT.
As one of the title characters, Dexter Sol Ansell will probably be in every episode. So I'm wondering if this will be an ASoIaF equivalent of a kids program.
