the sound of the soft pitter pattering of the rain against your apartment window, along the occasional thunder rumble, filled the background noises while you laid in bed, wrapped in your comforter as you tried to calm yourself down from the podcast you had just watched. lately you’d been on a true crime kick, indulging in at least three episodes per night, sometimes even more. the last few you’d watched, though, had really shaken you up. the fact that there was a massive thunderstorm rolling through los angeles right now wasn’t helping either.

your room lit up from the flash of lightening, followed by a large crash of thunder that practically shook your whole building. you wrapped the covers around you tighter, as if the fabric would somehow protect you. you reached for your phone on the night stand next to you, scrolling through your recent phone calls until you landed on the familiar name. the phone rang twice before the sound of your boyfriends voice flooded your ears though the phone speaker.

“hey love, what’s going on? you good?” matt spoke, his voice sounding as if he just woke up.

“sorry, did i wake you? it’s nothing really..” you started, instantly feeling bad. you were an adult, you could sleep alone for the night.

“no no, you’re good. what’s up?” matt assured you.

“i watched a scary true crime podcast,” you admitted, laughing a bit at yourself, “can i sleep at your place tonight?”

“of course, i’m on my way right now,” he replied, the sound of him shuffling around and grabbing his keys could be heard from his end of the line.

as he promised, not even ten minutes later, matt was parked outside your apartment complex, keeping you on the phone until he saw you come outside. upon entering the car, he pulled you into his embrace, burying his face in your hair while kissing your temple. “you alright baby?” he asked you, pulling away to meet your eyes.

you nodded, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek while you buckled yourself into the passenger seat. “i am now, thanks again for coming.”

“anything for my girl.” matt smiled, placing the car into drive and bringing you back to his house.

when the two of you arrived at matt’s shared apartment, he quietly let you both in, trying not to wake up his brothers as they were sound asleep. you made your way back into matt’s bedroom, changing into a pair of his boxers and an oversized tee as he insisted you needed a new set of pajamas because the ones you were wearing had gotten a little damp from the rain. you slipped underneath his silk sheets, waiting for your boyfriend to join you in bed. sure enough, you heard the door creak open as you were met with the sight of the brunette haired boy. he padded his way over to the bed, laying down and pulling you into his chest as his hand went up to rub your back underneath your shirt.

“you feeling better sweetheart?” matt asked you, tilting his head down to get a better look at you as your tired eyes looked up to meet his gaze.

“yeah,” you replied, feeling bad about how childish you were acting over this, “could you maybe turn the tv on before we go to bed?”

“of course baby.” matt told you, leaning forward slightly as he reached for the remote, scrolling through netflix until he stopped at your favorite, ten things i hate about you. he clicked play, setting the volume low as he re-situated himself so you were snuggled into his body as your head lay in the crook of his neck. he began toying with the ends of your hair, pressing soft kisses to your head every so often, whispering sweet nothings to you.

you were barely twenty minutes into the movie, and your eyelids began to feel heavier and heavier with each blink. soon enough, your soft snores echoed throughout the room as you fell asleep entangled with matt, the podcast episode now long gone in your mind.

I love it when an aspect or overall theme leads a reader to discuss something and it gets a bit more personal and chatty. Fire Island and Sweet Dreams and Flying Machines led to comments in which people shared their memories and feelings about the AIDS crisis and about 9/11 respectively. I guess it makes it seem like the fic has a bit more 'social impact' in a way. It's quite amazing when that happens.

Anywho, I'm a firm believer in Butch Sevika, but then @sevikasleftpussyflap showed me this fanart of Sevika (and Jinx) in an evening gown and I have seen the light.

Gonna throw more close ups under the cut and some rambling about design because I am a fashion and character design nerd!

Also tagging @sxpphicfxiry for what I hope are obvious reasons.

So, while I LOVE the look she's wearing in the fanart I linked above, I wanted to design something that had more call back to her outfit in Arcane -specifically her cape/cloak bc red/maroon is such a gorgeous color on her, and because I thought it'd be a color nod to her original outfit design.

I also changed up her hairstyle because I thought it'd be fun and fitting for presumably what is a formal event.

I also wanted to add some body jewelry -in keeping with the theme from the linked fanart-because I love the contrast of Sevika's overall build and demeanor with the delicate, fragile chains. I went with gold because I thought it'd flatter her skin tone nicely, and because her cloak in the show has gold accents iirc.

I landed on the diamond/rhombus design by accident (which you see in the clasps of the jewelry and the structure of the hair piece and her "rings"). My main goal was having something that looked like a matched set because she deserves something nice -and because I also LIVE for Sugar Baby!Sevika where she has a wealthy Piltover GF to dote on her. If I were to do something like this again, I'd probably try to design something that infers her character more -possibly something gear shaped that would allude to her arm. But, for something I was just trying to whack out quick for my own satisfaction, I'm pleased with the results.

I kept the choker look she has going from Arcane because I think it looks fabulous on her, and the ring piece she's wearing -in my mind-can also function as brass knuckles because I love jewelry that is also functional to the character's role in the story. And also because I think Sevika would like/invest in fancy brass knuckles so that if she has to beat someone up at a ritzy gala, she can.

God I hope that you can click on the picture and it'll show you the whole thing or that the cropping is only in the post creation bc I actually put effort in on the shoes fUCKING DAMMIT.

This is mostly to show detail on the thigh jewelry and also LEG (mady, you're welcome).

All in all, I'm pleased with how this came out! I used markers for most of the piece -the dress, cloak, her body and hair, and the leather bands on the jewelry pieces are all marker. The trim on the dress and cloak, along with the base for the chains are done in colored pencil; I also warmed up her skin with some blended down colored pencil bc the tone of the markers were looking a little gray to my eye. I used a metallic gold gel pen to add some shine to certain parts of the jewelry, but that wasn't flashy enough, so I used some gold acrylic paint and white acrylic paint to add highlights to her jewelry.

I think I need to do this again. I've got an idea for a gear-themed look -in terms of jewelry-that I'd pair a blue dress in bc I think she'd look gorgeous with blue. Also @sevikasleftpussyflap mentioned a look of Sevika wearing a tight, skimpy body con dress and now it lives rent free in my head.

I did this piece over I think about a week? I wanna say it took between 3-5 hours in total.

i hope this doesn't come off too weird given that we're strangers, but i wanted to say that piano's story is so deeply beautiful and touching to me and i really think you have a gift for art and storytelling of all forms. i started following you for your music after listening to shapes for the first time, then started making my own songs on beepbox because you inspired me to do so, and now i've fallen in love with the characters and worlds you've created—ner's story especially really, really spoke to me as a closeted trans person who was raised christian. i just want you to know that your art has reached people, and inspired them, and comforted them, and i wanted to thank you sincerely for that. and, i hope this doesn't make all this seem like a self-plug or anything, but it would really mean a lot to me if you'd listen to some of my music on my art blog, seravee—you really are a huge inspiration to me as an artist. thank you so much, i hope you never stop making art and telling stories 💜

I missed the part where Shadow Play took place over a few days and Macky is so stupid for going “you again? You must be my biggest fan” like SIR. He is the ONLY person coming to comfort binge popcorn and cry at an empty theatre while you repeat the same hero and warrior story like how are not tired and like, is MK ok bc this is unhealthy copism inflicting that depressing af story he kept internalizing on himself by coming back here. What was the goal telling that story over to no audience anyways lmao, okay safe enough hobby, but the lack of reaction to MK mentioning the LBD but THEN saying something is coming 👀 “good to see there is some potential” the “you’re just a bit too much like him” for a revived guy who just had a trauma flashback he’s way too dang chill, but oh the genuine FEAR when not mayor shows up, I hear macaques (as in the animal) smile to show fear, matches his personality fine but sometimes that breaks too and oof, and noooo his lantern. That’s like his only belonging, I personally love lanterns culturally, so wahh hope he gets it back it’s like that one fic where he also loved it a bunch and didn’t know where to hide it bc he thought the others wouldn’t like him keeping it.

ok there is some great art made by @llumetesdellums that perfectly encapsulate Shadow Play because yeah, MK is literally just obsessively rewatching this play (mood) where he sees himself as swk's shadow and warrior and unable to keep up, and the play just enables it because it is told in favor of the Warrior, who feels scorned and neglected by the Hero. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND!!! you have the hilarity of MK coming to this show everyday, every hour, eery showing and Macky just....goes on with the show 💀💀💀

like, on one hand, yeah, Macky had set the production times and (in my opinion) is a monkey of the arts™️. like yes, sure, this play was made with ulterior motives, but who is he to say no to more showings 😂 like on a story standpoint, MK's crisis is very emotional and tugs at your heartstrings because we've all (maybe) have been in his position of feeling second best and not good enough. but when you place yourself as a third party or Macky, you just see a guy obsessively coming to a show that clearly affects him negatively and nobody is stopping him

it's so hilarious from that end but also i just love this episode so much. and YEAH macky playing off MK's attendance like that is like, bitch you can just end the charade, you have the power!!! 😂 my guy

and then when it comes to Macky's own emotional feelings, i personally always see him as someone who's "cool" persona is his shield. fake it til you make it! if they think you're unfazed then nobody will ask questions, which Macky actually doesn't want MK to ask question that pertain to the specifics of his relationship with swk.

literally every answer he gives MK boils down to "he hurt me, i'm mad about it and feel incredibly betrayed, so don't repeat history". personally i don't think Macky can talk about the specifics bc it is still raw to him. a memory like a shish kabobed eye is pretty visceral, ya know? talking about it means reliving it, and Macky would rather be annoying vague and negative than do that.

#fun fact! the fanart i shared was a huge inspiration for ch3 of frayed strings bc i was hitting a block on it #so thanks llumetesdellums <3 you don't know me probably but your artwork greatly inspired me to keep writing Macky :D #macky's trauma is so fascinating to me #and it's interesting how lmk keeps that story under implication (and by interesting i mean i am chewing their walls bc i WANT IN!) #according to the legends: the Six Eared Macaval dies #he is killed by swk #however there are adaptations and stories that play on the idea that Macky lives #that they did fight but Macky got away still breathing (tho beaten to a pulp) #OR #there are stories where Macky DID die but was able to come back for reasons #and lmk STILL KEEPS THAT ANSWER UP IN THE AIR AND I WANNA KNOW #🎶CAN YOU SHOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW ME!🎶 #but the cool thing is lmk adds a wholelot of other issues bt swk & macky that even if macky lived there's still a LOT of bad blood #but yeah #lmk #asks #lmk six eared macaque
