How about some Yandere Hercules, Thor, Ares, Lu Bu, Rudra, Hades, Qin Shi Huang and Apollo x Hiyori Reader (Leodonis’ Daughter) where she just straight up BITCH SLAPS Apollo for insulting her father
She refuses to back down or bow her head for forgiveness because “I’m a Spartan’s Daughter, I will never back down! Especially when I know I’m Right!”
Underneath her cold, flirtatious and ‘vain’ exterior is a brave, compassionate and selfless woman who cares deeply for others, as she would manipulate any cruel and evil Gods, Humans and Demons with her irresistible beauty for their valuables and power until they have nothing left and give it all up to the people to live better lives
She loves and admires her Father deeply, and won’t tolerate anyone disrespecting him, as she has a high moral code, as her father was a brave and strong man (As she’s a total Daddy’s Girl, even showing her childish and tomboy side when he’s around *As she also tried to drop kick him, one of the moves he taught her for self defense, which he’ll laugh about since he’s glad she can at least defend herself*)
Leodonis is also on the floor cackling after hearing his daughter slap the hell out of Apollo (As her hand print is clear for everyone to see on his face)
-Leonidas couldn’t breathe, death was fast approaching as he held his stomach, never had his abs hurt like this before, even after years of intense workout or even getting stabbed.
-Before him stood a glorious scene, his daughter, who looked like an angel, delicate and soft, was standing over Apollo, who had just got bitch slapped right across the teeth, “I am a daughter of Sparta, worm, and if you insult it’s king, you insult me. And nobody insults Sparta.”
-Apollo was bringing it on himself technically, as the others around you could vouch for, as Apollo was trying to flirt with you, telling you how beautiful you looked and that he couldn’t understand how someone so crash and vulgar could be the father of such an angel.
-You were normally very level-headed and calm, but your papa was your soft spot, even if you would deny it, acting shy about it, you wouldn’t hesitate to throw hands to defend your papa, even though he could do it himself.
-You were known as quite the heartbreaker around Valhalla, but your targets were always cruel people, cruel gods and humans, and you would use your looks and never-ending charm to get in a good position with them, only to rob them blind.
-Many called you a villain and many tried to get you arrested for your crimes, but there were many more who would defend you, as everything you stole, goods, money, food, clothes, and you would always give it to those who needed it but didn’t have it, mainly because those you stole from had taken it or horded it, not distributing it like they were told to do.
-When the investigation was launched, you were actually thanked by so many high ranking gods for finding these thieves, who were punished instead. Many begged you for mercy, but you were cold and unforgiving, “I have no mercy to give to those who deserve none.”
-Many thought your icy nature was alluring, wanting to get to know you in a romantic sense, but in a serious romance, not your typical ones.
-You were always hesitant on making an actual relationship with someone, as you were afraid they would find out about your past exploits and what you’ve done, and you didn’t want to be deemed a loose woman.
-Leonidas would defend you, even if you told him you didn’t need his him, kicking his butt with your foot, telling him to leave, only to make him laugh while others would see your slight tomboy side.
-However, there were times like this where you easily showed your papa and anyone around you, that you were indeed a daughter of Sparta, and the daughter of the king, and you were not to be underestimated by any means.
-Many around were in shock, stunned with wide eyes but at the same time, they were admiring you, you took no disrespect and you slapped a god to the floor, not caring in the slightest that it was done in front of witnesses.
-Holy moly that was HOT!! He couldn’t believe his eyes to watch Apollo flirting with you, the object of his own affections, and then insult your father, and the next thing the sound of a slap is ringing around and Apollo is on the ground, a pulsing red imprint of a hand on his cheek as he lay twitching on the ground. Immediately approached you, asking if you were okay, taking your hand in his own, holding it gently; he was careful because he didn’t want a matching handprint on his own face. You felt your face warm as he held your hand so gently, massaging the palm gently, making sure you didn’t hurt yourself while praising you for making it look so easy. Leonidas couldn’t help but grin, seeing you acting so shy with soft affection, you were so cute!
-Ares, Hades, Hercules, and Qin Shi Huang
-Was in awe, seeing you dispatch a god so easily and with just a slap across the face. It made him curious on how hard you actually hit Apollo. It also made him curious on how strong you actually were; it wasn’t everyday where a woman could drop a god with one hit. Picked you up when you started getting a little feistier then you probably needed to be, wanting to yell at Apollo some more, and they were worried that Leonidas really was going to die from laughing so hard. He was surprised when you went silent, being held princess style before your face immediately went red and you started to push on his face, demanding to be let down. This was an unexpected but enjoyable surprise, seeing you so shy from being treated like a maiden. Leonidas couldn’t help but grin, wiping the tears from his eyes, he knew you could handle yourself, but if you came to him, he had no issues putting someone in their place.
            -Lu Bu, Rudra, and Thor
-Stars in his eyes, birds circling his head, and ringing in his ears were all he could recall. He had been speaking to you but had realized, after you disciplined him, that he must have said something rude to you. Could see you glaring down at him, chewing him out but couldn’t hear anything but ringing. You were the whole package, beauty and strength, just like him, and he knew, being a daughter of Sparta, you could handle yourself, you were just like him! He couldn’t help but smile up at you as he became more coherent, hearing Leonidas nearby laughing loudly as well as many others laughing at his misfortune. Apollo beamed up at you, adoration in his eyes as he had never met a woman like you before, “Marry me!” Everyone went silent, completely stunned by the question, however it was your reaction that got more attention as you immediately flushed, holding your cheeks, “What are you saying?! Did I scramble your brains?!” before rushing to your father who was now standing, moving to hide behind him, however, seeing you so shy made Apollo fall even more in love. Now he just needed to convince Leonidas.
-Apollo

YESSSSS let's go!!!!
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?*
so there's the obvious one (rnhru) but i also vaguely feel this way about rei/gisa. HEAR ME OUT. it's not that it's bad. i understand where it comes from, i like totally get it. i just never felt as much of the chemistry there as others did, mostly bc i think nagisa doesn't get quite enough character moments. i have loved what the fandom has done with the two of them, tho!!
Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*
in general for SURE, but i got RLY into free super late in the game, so the ship wars were over. i did have someone who was like. the backseat driver when i first got into the show, and i wasn't so good at standing up for myself or my opinions back then, so for a long time i was a huge hiyo/iku hater. this has since changed, bc i deeply adore how fucked up they both are LMAO.
Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?*
^^^ as stated above, hiyo/iku!!!!!!!!!! catherine's love of hiyori and all the meta analysis of hiyo/iku as parallels to mako/haru were some of my favorites, and really helped me move past the bias my ex-friend had instilled in me about the pairing.
Most disliked character(s)? Why?
i'm gonna be so real, i don't rly like ai as a character; i found him vaguely annoying and he doesn't really amount to anything or add to the plot other than being the wet paper bag rin steps on a bunch in the beginning of the show... his parallel with nagisa isn't very strong, and i just like. idk. that's about as far as my dislike goes for characters in this series LOL
Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
makoto deserves to bottom you fools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like sure he could top!!!!! i'm sure everybody assumes he does!!!!!! but //grabs you by the shoulders// the way he whines haru's name in canon tells me everything i need to know!!!!!!!! (this is a silly opinion but listen, it's a desert out here for the girlies who don't like dom top makoto or worse, SUB bottom haru (worst. hated take. disgusting. haru can bottom but he is not submissive))
What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
honestly, these days it's pretty great!! the echoes of the ship wars and the obsession with who's ship is more canon annoy me tho. canon has no bearing on whether the ship is good. shipping is about extrapolation. i don't really care which ship is "more" canon. it's not a competition, and people getting obsessed with it are obnoxious. like what u like!! it's ur right!!

Playing a game with Aira.
Your in the lobby of ES, with aira. You two have nothing better to do but look at the idols that come and exit the lobby with snacks to eat while to pass time.
Suddenly an idea flash In your head.
MC: hey wanna play a 'i spot an Idol?'
Aira: Ara?! Is this an idol version of that game? Hehe, I wanted to play this for a while too!
MC: but instead of how they look like. We will say a fact about them. Or something well known canon about them. For others to guess who they are.
Aira: L-O-V-E-L-Y! I'm a certified idol fanatic! So I have high chances of winning! Hehe! 🥹💕
MC:the person with the less correct guess gets to follow a command of the winner.
Aira: 👀 I see. Very good price.
MC: no it don't include getting autograph photo from idols that could be said to be a limited edition one.
Aira: 😱😢😳 I totally did not plan to ask for that!
MC: yeah sure you don't. 😪
Aira: I really don't I swear. 🥹👉👈
MC: mk. Around one. I'll go first.
You look around the lobby and saw someone.
MC: I spot an idol who vandalism more than street artist does.
Aira: oh! Oh! It's Leo Tsukinaga! +1 for aira! How L-O-V-E-L-Y!
He seems really hype about this. You nodded and put it on the notepad.
Aira:... Ahmm... Let's see...
He look around the lobby.
Aira: I... Spot an idol who's always in top 1 to 3 as famous good looking idol!
you stared at him and to the new comer, Rei Sakama.
MC: rei Sakama. +1 for me then.
Aira: aww. But where tie now! Ok your turn!
You stared at the new group of people that come into the lobby.
MC: I spot an idol who kidnap and obsess with another idol.
Aira: aiyo? Who's this....??? Is this a gossip I did not hear about?!
He don't seems to know who your talking about but you stared at the idol you spoke about, who acted like a normal refine person. Truly ya cannot judge a book by its cover.
MC: that'd for you to discover on your own. +1 for me.
aira: NAURRR. 😩 I mean it's not a bad thing I learn a new fact... Ok my turn now then. I spot an idol who shoot a drone...
You stare at aira, you remember that broken drone that yet reported by someone. It's supposed to be for a live.
MC: man, you really want to win. I don't want to guess who that was because I need to make a report about that person if I did.
Aira: aiyo?! Is this a way for me to win? 😩😳🥹 +1 for me. Ok it's your turn now.
You stared a certain direction. You wonder if you should let aira win or not.
MC: I spot an idol who is a sus amongus... Wait nvm. I'll change that. His glaring at me. I spot an idol who love bread.
Aira question who your first certain directed too but answer the question meant for this round. Soon the two of you have made it to 10th round, you decided to let aira win or else you going to let out someone dark secret idol have to win the silly game.
Aira won with 2 points difference.
Aira: yeye! I won!
MC: ok what do you want. Aira suddenly froze and shyly stare at you and to the empty lobby at the twilight time of day.
Aira: can I... Can I...
MC: =_= can you what. Speak up now. I can't give it to you if your not saying it.
Aira: a- a... Kis-- I mean. Er... 😩😳😭 💦
MC:... Aiyo? 👀
Aira: ... 😳🥹
MC: sure. Here's an album a trap for you with a sign of hiyori and jun. You want to say the live with a fake kissing right? You pull out an extra album.
Aira stared at you as he accept the album. He seems to be frozen in place.
Aira: thanks but that's not what I mean--
MC: I know lol.
You laugh at his reaction before you kiss his cheeks before he can react you already left to throw the trash from the food you just eaten in the pass hours. Aira went to follow you as you two went to listen to the album you give him, he did ask if he could have the album and you said yes. He happily hugs you for that rare album.

Chapter 101 thoughts
I found this chapter to be kinda uneventful (which is great for me seeing as I'm still reeling from the last two), but I still have a few things I wanted to talk about. Spoilers under the cut.
It seems like Kazuma has calmed down and shaken off GGS for the time being, but I don't think we're totally out of the woods yet. His numerous death flags aside, he got smacked at the end of a pretty big chapter. Not only was it the 100th, it was the start of the final arc. Plus Mizuchi said she meant business when she got him, which also means...She wasn't aiming to kill when she attacked heaven? Even though she's covered in blood from that? She put her hand through a whole guy.
I think Kazuma's bought himself some time, so while I'm less worried I'm not ready to be optimistic about his future. Because in thinking about it, more occurs to me: Whatever happens to Kazuma at the end of the series may likely indirectly affect Yukine and Nana, as well. They're all hafuri, they're all nora, they've all been hit by GGS. If Yato has to unname Kazuma to save his life, what will happen if trash dad revokes the name of Hagusa? The name Yato gave Yukine is cracked through, so it follows he'd also have to release Yukine to save him. If Nana isn't impervious to GGS like we previously assumed, Bishamon would have to unname her to save her life.
For now, it's kind of looking like the three of them will all share the same fate, whether that's a good or bad thing. I can't explain it, really, but they're all pretty similar to one another and all going through the same thing. In any case, I'm 99.9% confident Yukine won't be dying (again) in this series as it would serve no purpose, narratively or otherwise, so with any luck neither will Kazuma :^)
Anyway, considering trash dad's reaction to Mizuchi implying she was holding back, can't wait for him to find out she's been getting the Hiyori Therapy Treatment. I'm sure he's going to be thrilled to hear that. Kick his ass, girl.
"This has been quite a day" "And it's about to get worse" reminded me that the events of the last, like...15 chapters have all been happening in a single day, and probably the rest of the series will continue to happen on this day. Oh, boy. That makes me exhausted to think about. Everyone needs a nice, long nap. Even trash dad! But his can be in hell <3
Speaking of, more Father backstory crumbs, and they're just as confusing as the last few times. It looks like Kaya was someone who helped heal him after he nearly died, and he returned the favor to the rest of the village after coming back from Yomi, so they all started worshipping him.
I guess the thing that's confusing me is that this story is being told by someone who (a) wasn't there for any of the events he's describing and (b) views Father in a much more positive light than the rest of the cast. How do we know that this is true, and not just what Father has made them believe?
I know we're all pointing and laughing at bald Father but I really do wonder why he didn't have hair. Did he shave it because of his faith? Yet it doesn't seem like he really believes in Buddhism, despite dressing the part. Maybe it was just a way to make himself seem harmless/trustworthy, yet he seemed to have dropped the disguise at some point anyhow because he was shown with a full head of hair in Yomi.
Anyway, Take has finally grown bored of listening and wants to hit things with his sword. (Relatable.) I think either he will be physically stopped, by Ebisu or the gravekeeper, or his attack will trigger some kind of booby trap. They're in a very weird, liminal space, and I would not at all be surprised if Father had something in place to prevent people from killing him once they found it--after all, a previous incarnation of Ebisu visited there and died.
I also wonder if Father could be alerted to someone trying to attack his grave and make his way there. Guess we'll see!

hiii i love your hcs so much 🥺 can i request platonic hcs of nazuna, nagisa, ibara & mitsuru playing around with a younger sibling reader? thank you in advance! 🥺❤️
» helloooo!! tysm, anon, im glad to hear that! also wow-za, what's with all the sibling hcs these days, huh? /nm ☆
Tumblr media
prompt: playing around with your older sibling
character(s): nazuna nito, nagisa ran, ibara saegusa, mitsuru tenma
pairing(s): N/A, platonic w/ gn!reader
warnings: N/A, fluff
Tumblr media Tumblr media
☆ — NAZUNA NiTO !!
nazuna's idea of 'playing around' centers mostly around playing video games with him. one that he has really been into ever since you two were little is the sims and he hasn't stopped playing it ever since. you always get to watch in amazement as he creates perfect replicas of you and himself and then does all kinds of crazy shenanigans with those little characters.
if you're going out somewhere, though, nazuna also has a lot of activities you two could do! he keeps a lot of the toys from your childhood, so stuff like frisbees, various sports balls and even hula hoops are practically on hand at any given moment. it's like a kindergarten gym closet inside your house.
nazuna may not look like it, but he can definitely be aggressive when he's playing competitively. this is especially proven true when he nearly tackled you down a hill when you two were playing some makeshift version of football. in the end, you ended up with a bruise or two, but he swore he would make up for it. (he bought you ice cream everyday for a week)
he doesn't really play any kind of rpg or competitive games by himself, but you should know sitting down with him and battling it out in a pvp game will end in your total demise. he isn't exactly a gamer by any means, so it's almost impressive how you can hand him any game and he'll learn it almost immediately.
also, he's known to give in almost instantly if he notices you're sad about losing. sometimes he'll even mess up on purpose, even if he knows you'll notice, just so you can win.
Tumblr media
☆ — NAGiSA RAN !!
nagisa is a strange case when it comes to playing around with you, because he's so invested in his own thing that it's pretty much impossible to tear him away from it. he'll continue to tell you “i'll be there in a second” and then continue his own hobby for another hour.
if you really insist on hanging out with him, you'll probably end up watching some kind of documentary related to gemstones or rocks, or he's going to sit you down just to talk about the things he likes. of course, you get a turn too! that new show you watched last week? he's all ears, tell him about it!
okay, you're really pushing your luck when you're making him go outside, but since he's your brother, he doesn't complain too much. actually, he ends up quite enjoying your trips to shopping centers, even though he doesn't seem thrilled about it any time you bring it up. he always finds something of interest, though, and one time he bought a bunch of little crystals and made you a bracelet out of them. “they remind me of you” or something of the sort.
actually, on that note, while he would rather not be known for it, nagisa is pretty good at making little jewelry items like that. you and hiyori are the only ones that get to own them, but he's made some for other people too, just refuses to gift them. sometimes, if you somehow manage to catch him when he's making them, you two do it together. in the end, there's probably ten bracelets on each of your arms.
Tumblr media
☆ — iBARA SAEGUSA !!
ibara "i don't have time for games" saegusa.
well, until you start getting annoying, that is. ibara never lashes out at you, but it's very clear when he reaches a limit with being asked to "hang out". getting him to abandon whatever he's doing is difficult, but he's more likely to agree if he's already having a bad day. for you, it's easy to tell, because he starts groaning a lot and is significantly slower whenever doing anything. it's almost as if he's half asleep..
you usually take him out to a café or maybe even a diner whenever you notice he's stressing out. it's not so much playing around, but his snarky personality immediately returns when he's finally relaxed. he enjoys picking on you and, don't tell anyone, but he often ruffles up your hair and pinches your cheek if he thinks your reactions to his teasing are 'cute'. again, you can't tell anyone, remember?
the only way to get ibara involved in games that involve him moving around a lot is if you steal his glasses. yes, he knows you'll just give them back if he doesn't engage, but it seems as though every time you do it, his first instinct is to get up and start chasing you. it's difficult to see, you know? just give them back!
honestly, he's willing to do anything you ask for if it entertains you, especially whenever you catch him in one of those moods where he doesn't feel like working. even if you want to do something outlandish like going to disneyland, he's still more likely to agree than the average person.
Tumblr media
☆ — MiTSURU TENMA !!
if you want misturu's attention, you have to get it his way or you won't be able to get it at all.
as a hyperactive guy, he's always finding new ways to entertain himself with “only the things nature has provided him”.. and you find out what that means when you two end up going to a forest and he catches a fish with his bare hands, before releasing it into the water after showing off his catch to you. “pretty cool, right?”
he's the type of person who would run around, jump on rocks and climb on trees, so make sure to keep up! oh well, but if you can't, he'll always stop to help you. mitsuru loves helping you, and especially loves the feeling of being the older brother! he wants to protect you and take care of you, so make sure you tell him whenever you're in need of anything.
if you really insist on doing something inside rather than outside, then you'll probably either be making a mess out of the kitchen or playing sports indoors. you can't get mitsuru to sit down for a second, so stuff like puzzles are completely off the table. but at least you always have fun baking with him! although everything ends up a mess, at least you can forget your worries for a little while.
if you're really lucky you might be able to play video games or board games with him. it's super rare for him to finish the game with you, but he's actually pretty good when he gets invested in it. the problem? he often finds it boring if there's very little happening, so you have to keep his attention on the game the whole time.

hi this is so self indulgent but Hear me out please god .. y'know how hiyori is someone aira likes a lot since he's a famous idol- did you read the hiyori fs 3* story because i strongly recommend it it's so silly- and hiyori also acts kind of maternal to kohaku ( seen in secret service, plus umm a hiyori 4* i think ? it's called idol talk and machifuwa translated it ) ? consider hiyori knowing about kohaai's feelings for one another and being like a little gossip central .. aira will be like "tomoe senpai could you ask sazanami senpai what kohakun likes" and hiyori will just be like . ehehe sure thing airachan <3 and the same in reverse .. kohaku will be like Hey hiyori senpai . could ya ask tatsumi senpai what kinda things lovehan likes when you see him at your next flavor meeting . i love the idea of everyone in ensquare beinf like . inseparable because they all have ties
OH do u mean the story where aira buys a bunch of CDs to get the chance to talk to hiyori more??? i think that story is so silly and adorable hnghgh it also shows the extent of much aira truly loves idols so i love that story to death… it’s just super silly because aira sees hiyori often as well because they’re both in pretty5, but aira makes a very clear distinction between his life as an idol and his life as an idol fan and so despite having several opportunities to see hiyori, he’s still supporting him as loveswan, the idol fan… him being so supportive of idols and being so engaged in idol fan culture is one of the many reasons why i love aira, but that’s a separate rant that has nothing to do with hiyori and kohaai hghhgh sorry for getting sidetracked at the mention of aira
hiyori being the unexpected connection between aira and kohaku sounds so fun actually… the thing that comes to mind first is pretty5, since both aira and hiyori are in pretty5 and i think pretty5 getting involved in their members’ drama is pretty characteristic of them (see: arashi’s pretty5 story, it’s a really good story for reasons that deserve a proper rant of it’s own). pretty5 meetings are basically fun hangouts for pretty people, and they totally gossip at their meetings and talk about all sorts of stuff. and y’know, aira having a ‘close’ friendship with kohaku could totally come up during one of pretty5’s meetings. i could totally see hiyori (and subsequently the rest of pretty5 as well) getting involved with aira’s love life haha.
admittedly, i’m less familiar with hiyori’s relationship with kohaku but i read the idol story you mentioned just now and i can see what you mean with hiyori knowing about kohaai. it would be so silly… i support you and ur self-indulgent goal of hiyori being aware of kohaai being kohaai

Hypothetical question: if the Heroine Tarumono anime would have had Ascana, do you think it would have been based off of the novels? Also, do you think it would have had a different turn out?
Hm. That's a good question.
To be honest?? I think they would have changed it up a bit. Like maybe instead of meeting him at an Ft4 concert, she would head to a library to try to study and Asuka would help her, instead of the scene where Aizou and Yujiro help her out of literally nowhere. This would also be the case most likely since Nagisa wanted to take Hiyori to an Ft4 concert and going twice would be repetitive.
This would cause her to go back to tell him about her good grade and the general events of the novel would follow. She talks about books with him, thinks he's princely, the boys help her, etc etc....
And it would be the same after that. With Hiyori being rejected and all that.
Now, Nagisa's introduction...it would probably be different. Hiyori, after the HeroineDev novel, doesn't think that she's a heroine still. So Nagisa's words would probably be further cemented in her mind as the truth. After all, despite looking cute, Asuka still rejected her. (Granted it was because he was aiming to be an idol, but still. Rejection is rejection)
So upon hearing that he wanted to come to Tokyo and take her to the concert, she would be more unsure than ever.
New scene: She admits all of this to lxl, and points out that Asuka rejected her, so he was probably right.
Now, instead of telling Hiyori that her clothes are ugly and she needs to throw them out, or turning OOC like they did in the anime, they would probably say something along the lines of not to let (other girls) dictate how she feels about herself, and probably give the same spiel about their Juliettas or something.
Hiyori then comes to the decision herself that she wants to try again, and instead of repeating a shopping montage, they'd go through her closet at home and put her together there.
Then the rest would follow as the anime says.
Of course, a lot of time should have passed since the Asuka incident, so...I would imagine it's been a few months at least.
Hiyori at first wants to accept, because a heroine would have a boyfriend, right? But...she wonders what she expected from Asuka back then, and it's because of that experience that she realizes that she can still be a heroine even though she's single. She'd been desperate back then, but she gets it now.
It would then follow normally, with her rejecting Nagisa but then attending the same uni as him. Probably dating him in the future too. (Or that's what I assume based on the MVs lol)
In this case, she can put the experience with Asuka to use, and prove that every experience is a learning one. It isn't just cut and dry; everything that she's gone through, the heartbreak, lipxlip helping her, has lead to this moment, of her realizing that she was wrong about being a heroine simply because she would have had a princely boyfriend.
She is a heroine.
........At least, if I was staff, that's how I would have written it. Idk. I could be totally wrong.

Season: Summer
Proofreading: 310mc (JP)
Translation: Bella & hyenahunt
Natsume: No. I didn't want to press the issue unless you wanted to tell ME. You told me on stage you wanted to smile and be happy with ME… So I decided I'd believe in YOU, and that I'd wait until you were ready to TALK.
Tumblr media
[Location: Seisou Hall Common Room]
Natsume: Sora.
Sora: Master~... Did... Arashi-oneesan tell you everything?
Natsume: No. I didn't want to press the issue unless you wanted to tell ME.
You told me on stage you wanted to smile and be happy with ME… So I decided I'd believe in YOU, and that I'd wait until you were ready to TALK.
Sora: …...
Arashi: My my… Sora-chan, I know I’m the one who made us promise about this, but say, maybe it's about time we told everyone what's up?
Hiyori: A promise you made?
Arashi: Yep. I didn't think it'd turn out to be such a big deal, though… It was totally careless of me. Sorry, Sora-chan.
Sora: Arashi-oneesan didn't do anything wrong! Sora's the one who didn't do this properly.
Having to lie to his precious Master was really… really painful for Sora.
Tumblr media

It was just a little thing, yanno~? Sora thought if he just left it alone, the crows might find it and give it a hard time.
But if Sora picked it up… It would've been safe from any danger, but then it'd be separated from its family.

So Sora decided to reunite the kitten with its family.
Arashi: That's right. Did you know? Stray cats are awfully sensitive creatures.

I wrote this just cause I noticed, I wasn’t the only one thinking about this happening. Tagging @rinmatsuokatrash, I know it’s not exactly what you wanted and I’m not a writer, but I know you were thinking about it, too <3  And yeah, I totally agree with "with how oblivious Rin is I feel like Haru could literally ask him to be his boyfriend, and somehow Rin would still misunderstand” post (he already told him to call, right to his face and he was still like “I really want to call him, but should I tho?” I was like “Nevermind, Einstein” lmao). But I honestly think that at one point a long time ago Rin thought that the possibilty of his feelings being requited was zero, and now he just idiotically thinks that Haru’s “I’m totally in love” face when he looks at him is meant for a tree behind him aparently *smh*
Here the link to AO3.
Just Be With Me.
Rin accidentally finds out what Hiyori said to Haru (cause I've been fucking dreaming about this since 3x04 lol). Which leads to an unexpected turn of events.
Set after arcades, but doesn't fit the canon timeline, since it's also set after Rinharu reunion and Haru isn't at camp.
______
They were on their way out of the arcades, when Rin overheard Kisumi and Asahi actively arguing about something.
"He has some good qualities!"
Asahi only shrugged angrily.
"He’s an asshole!"
They were clearly still deep into the argument, that Kisumi has started with Sousuke about that Hiyori guy. Rin just shook his head, smiling. Pink haired boy was almost laying on Asahi's shoulder, while he was talking.
"He’s not that bad."
"You weren’t there. And you didn’t see Haru’s face when he said that. And he still didn’t even apologize. That asshole clearly knew, what he was saying. Haru looked miserable for days, he didn't even listen much, when I said that it was total bullshit. If it wasn’t for Nao-se.."
Rin found himself beside them, without even realizing it.
"What did he say?"
Asahi immediately lost his train of thought, startled by sudden interruption, and Rin tried to pull himself back, noticing that his tone was too harsh.
"Sorry..."
"It’s okay."
"What did he say? To Haru?"
Kisumi's face lit up with a grin, his eyes stopped on Rin's face, as if trying to find out if his guess is true, which Rin didn’t quite get and decided to ignore.
Asahi shrugged again.
"He said that everyone who swims with him ends up getting hurt, I just don’t get why Haru reacted like that. It’s a complete bullshit, that doesn’t make any sense."
Rin's blood went cold. He thought he hurt you, so he quit swimming.... Rei's voice resounded inside of his head. It felt like many years ago and at the same time like yesterday. To Rin it didn’t make any sense either, at a time. But he knew that Haru felt differently... Still? But he thought they cleared this up already. Rin frantically tried to replay all the events from that day. He clearly remembered saying to Rei that he never blamed Haru for anything that happened, but he just realized that he actually never said anything about it to Haru himself. But there was no way he could still feel that way. That felt surreal. Why? Rin's brain completely short-circuted.
He suddenly felt someone touching his shoulder.
"You okay?" Asahi was looking at him worriedly.
Rin shook his head, trying to get back to reality.
"Yeah, I’m... fine. Hiyo.." He turned around to look at the doors.
"They already left." There were clear hints of disappointment in Kisumi's voice.
Rin turned to Sousuke.
"You guys go without me. I need to..."
Sousuke just shook his head smiling and lightly waving.
"Go, Romeo."
Rin didn’t even hear him, already turning another way. It wouldn’t be the first time him and Haru unexpectedly needed to talk in the middle of the night. The only thing that Rin could think of right now is that he wouldn’t be able to sleep without talking to him after hearing that.
***
Haru was staring at Rin with wide eyes in the doorway, his hand froze on the doorknob. The pure shock in his gaze was quickly replaced with a flick of something that Rin couldn't quite identify, but what made him blush for some reason as he averted his eyes and awkwardly noticed.
"You shouldn't just open doors like that. It's not Iwatobi, you know. It's Tokyo."
When he raised his head again, Haru's face was already back to its usual unreadable self.
"Did something happen?" his voice was full of worry.
Rin shook his head. It was late and he didn't even know how to explain why he was here now.
"I.. I just needed to talk to you."
Haru just stepped out of the doorway, silently inviting Rin in.
"Actually we met Kisumi and other guys, when I was visiting Sousuke and I accidentally overheard them talking."
The door closed with too much force. When Haruka turned to Rin, his eyes were almost glossy.
"What is it?" His voice was tired now, no trace of the glint in his gaze, from when he saw him at the door. He looked as if he was expecting Rin to bring him mackerel, but got celery instead.
"I've heard about Hiyori."
Haruka rubbed his eyes, sighing. Honestly, this was the last thing that was on his mind.
"Do we really have to do this right now?" He snapped.
Rin furrowed his brows.
"You’re angry. Why are you angry?"
Haru took a deep breath. Seeing Rin's genuine concern made him feel embarrassed about his outburst.
"Sorry, I just.." His voice was barely a whisper. "It's because I thought you came here for another reason."
Red eyes got filled with confusion.
"What? Why would I come here?"
Haru chuckled bitterly.
"Of course. Why would you? You can go home, Rin. I’m okay now, promise. I forgot about what he said a long time ago."
"You're lying!"
"What's it to you, Rin?"
"Because it is about us! And I just want to know, why you let him think it was true!" Rin raised his voice, as he felt the anger filling him. Because that asshole was given the much wanted satisfaction of seeing Haru hurt. Because Haru was hurt and couldn't say anything back. Because he wasn't there with him. Because that asshole used him to hurt Haru. His Haru.
Rin tried to calm himself down.
"Did you think I lied, when I said that swimming with you was the only surprise I needed from that stupid party? Or when I said that without you I don't even see the point of this?"
Haru's eyes softened. He raised his hand for a moment as if he wanted to touch Rin, but then dropped it.
"No. I didn't. It's just..."
Haruka stopped for a moment. He honestly didn't know how to say this without it leading to him telling things he shouldn't. Rin's voice brought him back from his thoughts.
"Talk to me, please."
Haru felt himself giving up, catching the warm look in red eyes.
"I can't get this out of my head, you know." He said weakly. "A thirteen year old you sitting on the pool tiles and crying, because of me."
Rin winced. God, how many times since he grew up, he wanted to relive that moment and do everything differently. He looked into Haru's eyes, desperately trying to put everything he felt in these words.
"Never because of you. I swear, never once the thought of blaming you for anyhing has crossed my mind, Ha..."
"I know. Rei told me. I know you weren't. But I thought it was me. For four years I thought, I was the reason for that, and it just.. I can't get it out of my head. Just the thought makes my stomach turn and I can't sleep and I still can't get used to this."
The last time Rin heard Haruka talk this much was when he was yelling at him on that bench. Haru took a deep breath to calm his voice and smiled sadly.
"I think, I've felt like this just three times in my entire life, and I still don't know how to deal with this."
Rin watched him carefully, before asking, "W.. What made you feel like this the second time?"
Haruka eyes drifted, like he was reliving something. I don’t have to swim with you ever again. Ever. His voice was distant when he simply answered.
"You."
Rin swallowed hard, feeling like he was about to puke and already dreading hearing the next answer.
"And.. and the third?"
Haru's face flinched, as if he was in pain, his voice was barely a whisper, when he finally said, "Can we not do this, please? It’s humiliating."
Rin lowered his gaze to the floor, unable to meet the bright blues.
"I’m sorry. I..."
But Haru interupted him as soon as he started to speak.
"I didn't mean it like that.." His voice was much clearer now and yet sounded so much softer, that it made it made Rin raise his eyes again. "What do you have to be sorry for? It’s my problem, not yours. Besides..."
He froze for a moment, as if considering, if he should finish the next phrase. The second of the vulnerability in his eyes was immediately replaced with determination, as he looked right into Rin's eyes.
"...if I got to pick the happiest moments in my life, they’re all about you, too."
Rin felt like his heart actually stopped for a moment. There's no way Haru meant it like that. He cleared his throat.
"Don't, don't just say things like that so easy."
"E..easy?" Haru looked at Rin for a long time, his gaze still unreadable. "I just said the truth."
Rin let out a quiet chuckle, that meant to be sarcastic, but turned out sad.
"Right, sorry."
For a second he thought, that he saw Haru's face turning ever more pale.
"Right, sorry?!" Behind the irritation in his voice, two words were filled with so much hurt that Rin felt his blood going cold. "Well, don't be, it’s not your fault, you don’t feel the same."
Rin froze. It can't be. But there's no way those words can be interpreted any different. No, there's no way he heard this right.
"Haru... you’re killing me, it can’t..." Rin ran his shaky fingers through his hair. "But you can't be. In love with me?"
No, with Gou sarcastically remarked Haru in his mind. He couldn’t believe that this absurd idea of him being with his sister somehow has crossed Rin's mind already three times in his lifetime, but not once he would think about him being Haru's second half.
"Go home, Rin."
"You didn’t answer my question."
"I don’t think it’s fair Rin. I think, I’ve said enough already."
"Will you please look at me?"
Hearing a shaky voice, Haru lifted his head only to meet eyes, that were staring at him so intently that he suddenly forgot how to breathe. He honestly just felt very tired. Of everything. And of this stupid constant pretending.
"I love you" Haru’s voice was very soft and quiet, but his eyes were full of challenge. "That's what you wanted to hear, right?"
"It’s not funny."
Haruka’s eyes grew a bit wide, when he suddenly swallowed and turned away, before saying, "Can you please leave, Rin?"
The barely heard shudder in his voice by the end of the phrase felt like a bucket of cold water. Suddenly Rin was shaken back to reality. Cause Haru would never joke about something like that.
Haru was in love with him? Haru... the one that made his heart an absolute unrecoverable mess throughout all these years... the one he wanted so badly, it hurt sometimes, wanted him back? Rin never even allowed himself to think about this possibility. He forced himself to take a shaky breath.
"You’re serious.. you’re actually serious."
The relief that filled his heart at this moment was so sudden, that he felt his eyes become watery. He never even realized that this feeling he tried to keep as deeply buried as possible was weighting down on him so much. It's like there was a constant hurt inside of him that he got used to living with, that has finally stopped. Rin needed to touch him. He caught Haru near the door, grabbing his wrist and forcing him to turn around, only to find himself eye to eye with a dreary blue gaze. Rin's hand traced Haruka's cheek, catching the wet trail and just like that the pain in his heart was back again. He made him cry. He never saw Haru cry. Rin buried his face in Haru's neck and felt a shaky hand on his hair.
"It's okay, Rin. Really. I'm gonna be fine..."
Only then Rin realized that he didn't even say anything. Was he.. was Haru just comforting him after thinking that he was rejected? Rin felt tears falling down on Haru's neck, when he pulled him closer, wrapping his arms tightly around the slender figure.
"I love you." Rin breathed out in a wet warm skin. He let his hand trace Haru's neck and felt the body in his arms tense. He forced himself to raise his head a stared straight into the disbelieving blue eyes. "I love you."
His mouth crushed into a slightly opened lips with such fervor, that the fingers in his hair harshly gripped the red strands. Haru's body shuddered in his arms as if was holding his breath for too long. His other hand trailed down Rin's stomach, until it found the way under his shirt and his arms got wrapped around the hot naked skin. Closer, he needed him as closer as possible. When Rin's teeth slightly grazed Haru's lower lip, he let out such a sinful moan, that Rin started to shake. Haru... Haru was so warm, no, he was buring in his arms. His legs quivered, when he felt Haru's tongue licking it's way past his lips. As if sensing that, Haru grabbed Rin's shirt and pulled him, while taking two steps back until his back hit the door. They pulled back for a second, taking a breath and catching each others eyes, still so close that their noses were touching.
Haru's hand found it's way behind Rin's ear, brushing the sensitive skin. "I've missed you. I’ve missed you so much."
Rin kissed the tip of Haruka's nose, his cheekbone, the corner of his mouth, thumb gently stroking over red swallen lips.
"Feels like I'm dreaming."
Haru let out a little laugh, but it still sounded almost painful.
"Stupid.." He breathed out into Rin's mouth, pinching his earlobe.
Rin's eyes slowly traced Haru's face and he felt himself blush. Haruka was just an absolutely beautiful mess. His eyes were still glazed with unshed tears, but were shining so brightly, that Rin found it hard to look away. He looked... he looked so breathtakenly happy, that Rin felt his chest clench.
"I'm sorry, I made you wait for so long."
Haruka's fingers under Rin's shirt thoughtlessly went up and down his ribs, making Rin shiver.
"Maybe... maybe now is better." His eyes drifted for a second. "I'm not sure, I could've let you go to another continent after that."
Rin laughed breathlessly, suddenly felling very shy.
"You want to... Will you go out with me?"
Haruka's eyes glinted.
"No."
Rin visibly flinched, his arm slightly loosened his grip around Haru.
"N..no? Sorry, I didn’t mean to assume that..."
"No, stupid" Haru's eyes softened. "Just... be with me. I.. I really need you to just be with me. So... skip the dates, okay?"
Rin's head dropped to Haru's shoulder, as he tightly wrapped himself around him, hiding his face. He can really stay with him, for as long as he wanted. He felt the lump in his throat, as tears of relief soaked Haru's shirt, when he barely whispered, "Deal."
Haru was still holding him in his arms, when he suddenly softly chuckled, making Rin raise his head.
"What?"
Haru's hand cupped Rin's cheek, brushing the soft skin.
"Just thought for a second, that maybe, we should thank Hiyori next time we see him."
Rin eyes flashed, when he angrily mumbled under his breath, "Sure, right after I punch him in the face."
Haruka chuckled again, wrapping his arms around Rin's neck and lightly brushing their lips together.
"Deal."

First of all i want to give a shout out to @ayumiko for letting me use her amazing gifs in my writing! I mean just look at them! Be sure to go check out her stuff <3 (the middle gif’s credit goes to @atticwraith)
Overlooked | Ikuya Kirishima x Reader
Anon asked: Hi! Can I request an Ikuya x reader? Maybe a reader who’s really outgoing and stuff, kind of like the total opposite of him. At first he’s kind of annoyed by them, but then he slowly warms up and actually misses them when they’re out sick from school. He goes and visits and things go from there! As a fic writer myself, I thank you so much for providing for fandoms! You’re doing amazing.
A/n: sorry if the ending is a bit tacky, I didn’t know exactly how to end it off
Genre: a bit angsty? fluff at the end
Word count: ~2k this ones a bit long
“Catch up with you guys later ok?” You waved your teammates goodbye as soon as you had spotted a familiar head of deep sea green hair.
“Hey Ikuya!” He turned around and was met with your big smile, nodding in response. You quickly made your way over to him before noticing a third party.
“Oh, hello to you too Hiyori.” Your smile was returned with a little wave of his own. Teeth clenched, because we know he’s internally screaming
“First name basis huh?” Hiyori asked tartly, however a smile still present on his features.
“No need to be so uptight! We’ve all been given a name for a reason, so we can be called by it! By the way we’ve all been acquainted long enough.” You nudged Hiyori slightly in return, glancing at Ikuya, who just cared about making it to class on time. “Which is why I’m constantly telling you two to also call me (f/n)!”
“Hmmm.” Hiyori gave you a closed eyed smile before picking up the pace to catch up with his friend. I’m telling’ ya, internal screaming.
“Hey you two! Wait up!”
Students shuffled into the classroom, you took your usual seat next to Ikuya. You were taking notes when something had caught your eye. “Woah! You’re a really good artist Ikuya!” You leaned in next to him, pointing at the little doodles on the edge of his paper. Instinctively, the boy grabbed his notebook, blocking it from your view.
“T-They’re nothing.” He stated simply and went back to writing, this time with a protective arm shielding his work.
“...you could just take the compliment you know..” you muttered looking away. You felt a tap on your shoulder, making your eyes light up, only to find that it was just another classmate asking for help. You sighed and leaned over behind Ikuya to try and explain the problem.
The bell rang not too soon after. You and Ikuya began gathering your things, fingers brushing slightly in the process. You had managed to stumble out a sorry, but found that the boy was already halfway out the door; oblivious to you, with a small dust of pink hinted on his cheeks.
The next few days were the same, school work, friends, volleyball (yes you play volleyball k? I was watching haikyuu. I couldn’t help it), more volleyball, and failed attempts at a conversation with Ikuya.
“Hey Ikuya! Check it out! There’s a new cafe that’s opened nearby, some friends and I are gonna go check it out, you wanna come?”
“No, sorry I’ve got plans.”
Each day made your heart sink even more, along with the pile of stress, schoolwork and volleyball weighing on your shoulders. Nevertheless, you put on the same bright smile, known to everyone around you, and kept on.
“(L/n)?” Your face lit up at the sound of the familiar voice to your right, “...my eraser rolled over, can you reach it?”
“Huh? Yeah sure!” You gave him a smile and bent down, holding your hand out slightly before something struck you.
Why? Why do I feel like I need his attention? Why am I so pathetic? The realization was like a stab, penetrating deeper and deeper.
“(L/n)?.....(l/n)?....are you okay?”
You broke out of your trance and reached for the eraser, “S-sorry.” You placed the eraser in Ikuya’s hand, who was now looking at you with slight concern. You were silent after that, paying mind to your own work, failing to notice the boy next to you glance at you with worry.
The rest of the day consisted of you dwelling in your own thoughts, ignoring the calls of your friends and teammates. Skipping practice, you went straight home and sprawled out on your bed. Picking up your nearby volleyball, spreading your fingers into a setting position, you began gently tossing the ball up and down with hundreds of thoughts beginning to cloud your brain. Ikuya was never one to hide his annoyance, you knew that. But maybe you did talk too much, and maybe some of your friendships were forced. Were you trying too hard? Were people, unlike Ikuya, hiding their annoyance? Your insecurities that you thought you had left long behind, came flooding back. You shut your eyes tightly, thinking that would make the thoughts go away, as you drifted off into a deep sleep.
You woke up to the sound of your alarm pounding at your head, and made your way to the bathroom. Leaning over the sink, you took a good look at yourself in the mirror. The thoughts of last night still swirling in your head, making it feel like it was going to explode. Suddenly you felt something rise at the back of your throat, as you scrambled towards the the toilet and let it all out. The throbbing sensation on your right side became more prominent, the lights around you making it worse.
A couple of hours later, you thought you had heard your phone ring. Quite a few times actually. Great to know people care about me, you thought sarcastically. You decided to stay home with all the lights off and the blinds tightly shut, every movement or thought pulsating your head further. You couldn’t remember exactly when, but you had eventually passed out on the couch, failing to hear the sound of your front door opening.
“(L/n)?....” Ikuya had suspected something was up with you these past couple of days. Although the facade you had built around you might have fooled another, you had been around to constantly bug, not that he really minded deep down, for Ikuya to realize you were acting different.
“(L/n)!” Ikuya panicked, his eyes adjusting to the dark space, to catch a glimpse of a limp silhouette passed out on the couch. He quickly came to your side, checking to make sure you were okay.
H-huh? You slowly began to wake to a hovering dark figure with amber eyes looking over you in concern. Ikuya?
Ikuya quickly backed away, face flushed and glad it was dark, once he had realized you were awake. You however, took a moment to just stare at him, headache or whatever forgotten.
Am I hallucinating? Why is Ikuya here?
“....you weren’t at school and your friends were saying how you weren’t answering any of their calls....you’ve been acting weird for the past couple of days....so I came to check on you...” Even in the dark, you could see the glimmer of his cat-like eyes.
Wait? He noticed?
“I also brought you the notes you all the notes and assignments you missed...your captain was pretty pissed off too...” He moved forward, hesitantly resting his hand on your forehead before moving to his bag to take out his notebook and some other papers. “You don’t feel all that warm...are you sure you’re not just skipping?”
Has he always been this talkative?
He stopped and turned expectantly, waiting for your reply. Before you could even think about opening your mouth, another surge of pain made its way, with you clenching the right side of your head in pain.
“M-migraine...” you managed to barely get out. Instantly, Ikuya was at your side, crouched down, back facing towards you.
“We should probably get you somewhere you can actually relax first.” He kept his pink-tinted face forward, waiting for you to climb onto his back, which you did without complaints. You warily pointed a finger in the direction of your bedroom, as he slowly made his way and rested you gently on the bed, before awkwardly standing off to the side. You pointed with your eyes, still in pain, to the edge of your mattress. After a few minutes of silence, you began to make sense of your situation.
“Why’d you come here Ikuya....?” You propped yourself against your pillows, head hung low to hide the blush creeping up your neck and cheeks.
Ikuya was silent for a bit before whispering ever so slightly, “You were more quiet than usual for the past week....I got worried....”
You were barely able to catch the last part as your eyes widened, before lowering back your gaze. “Shouldn’t you be relieved though? I’m not being annoying or a nuisance to you...”
Ikuya’s head shot up as he suddenly lunged towards you. “I don’t-,” before composing himself, “I don’t think you’re annoying...I actually like when you talk to me...” again, the last part barely above a whisper.
“Ikuya...” Another tinge pain shot up throughout the side of your head, as you let out a small whimper.
“D-do you need some medicine?! Where’s your cabinet?!” You let out a giggle, before it turned into full blown laughter, headache completely forgotten. Ikuya looked at you confused while you wiped the corners of your eyes. There was something about your disheveled, humorous state, that made Ikuya feel a complexity of emotions suddenly stir inside of him. Soon, and he had no idea why, he started to laugh along with you. You paused and took in his image, the feelings in your own heart becoming more evident.
“....here I was thinking you hated my guts...” you murmured softly, shaking your head, but then instantly regretting it. “But, I already took some medicine not too long ago.” You paused again, but this time more seriously. Despite the painful state you were currently in, you still couldn’t ignore the gut feeling in your stomach.
“Ikuya...you are aware right?” Ikuya was now also looking directly at you. “...aware how I feel about you...” He froze, wide-eyed and eyebrows raised. He could no longer deny the growing feeling in his heart either. He blushed and looked away,
“...I feel the same way about you too (f/n)...for a while now...”
He said it softly, but you were just able to catch the last part as your eyes were now bulging out of your sockets. He caught a glimpse of your expression before suddenly backing away, as if he had said something wrong.
“W-what is it! W-why are you looking at me like that.”
“That’s the first....first time you ever called me by my first name...”
And for a while now? Maybe you really were oblivious.
By the look on his face, he had just realized this as well, but crossed his arms anyways, avoiding eye contact.
“It is your name you know...of course I would call you by it...” Your body moved before you had time to process what you were doing, and soon your cool hands met warm, as Ikuya gently sat back down, face now red, but still avoiding your gaze. Just as you were about to say something, a familiar sensation danced it’s way back, as you squeezed your eyes shut, removing your hands from Ikuya’s to clutch onto your head.
“Here lie down...” you obeyed, bracing for the next wave of pain, only to be met with slender fingers running through your locks, massaging in place once they had found their destination. You relaxed under Ikuya’s touch, eyelids becoming heavy.
Ikuya smiled to himself, scooting closer and watching your brows slowly unknit, as you drifted off into a peaceful slumber. ~

sou n shin oneshot i did (spoilers)?
i dont ship these two, i just had this idea! n well i wasn’t sure on how to end it,, but anyway enjoy. feedback appreciated!
Timid. That’s the best way you could describe someone like Shin Tsukimi. And it’s not a rare adjective as well — he’d have to say that almost everyone he came across had used that word in his presence. Frankly, if this was a few years ago, he wouldn’t have minded — but as he went on in years and his self esteem shrank with each life step, it seemed like more of a derogatory word nowadays. Although he knew he couldn’t do anything about it, he still complained. He wished he was more.
More like him. Sitting next to him in class, his gaze cast ahead towards the teacher rambling on about something to do with digestive systems, Sou was practically Shins polar opposite — tall, proper posture, upbeat and friendly — it was everything Shin wished he was. And though sometimes Sous eyes seemed to burn a hole into his own (more often than not), Shin felt a sort of pride knowing he could call him his friend. Someone big and dependable like him was good to keep around, right? It didn’t matter how many times he made Shin tremble with fear, he was his friend. They were best friends.
Lost in these types of thoughts, he seemed to snap to attention once the teacher had finished his sentence and was now going on about final reminders. He would’ve panicked for have not had taken notes, but it was the last period and Shin felt exhausted from the information he had retained over the day. Surely he could just study up with the textbook to get up to speed! Nothing to worry about, right?
As anxiety seemed to bite at his thoughts, the bell gave its usual ring and the sound of people pushing chairs against the squeaky floor and chatter distracted him from the thoughts. He wasn’t looking, but he could feel Sous stare piercing through him.
“Well, that was a rather boring session if I do say so!” His chipper tone brought Shin to look at him, bearing his usual bright grin. Shin nodded in agreement.
“I think I was too tired to pay attention, haha.” He remarked, pushing in his chair and shrugging on his bag. Sou tutted in disapproval, giving Shin a poke on the arm with a small giggle.
“My, my, you seem to get exhausted so easily. That’s not a good thing! Perhaps it’s because you’re quite scrawny, hm?” Sou spoke in a lighthearted tone, and Shin gave a small laugh (although it was a biting remark).
The two headed out the door, a firm hand placed on Shins shoulder so that the petite boy wouldn’t get lost in the sea of college students. Once they had made their way out, the hand was removed (much to Shins relief) and they were walking down their usual path.
“So! Any plans for tonight, Shin?” Sou broke the silence, casting a friendly glance downwards towards Shin. Shin gave a shrug in response.
“I dunno. Probably same as always. And you?”
“No need to worry about me!” came Sous reply, now staring ahead at the upcoming gates. “How about you try something new? Maybe hit the gym — you could use the exercise.”
“U-uh.. Maybe another time.” Shin dodged the question nervously, eyes now on the ground. “Besides, I have to walk home tonight. The buses aren’t coming, I think.”
“How unfortunate! Well, I wish you luck in your endeavour.” encouraged the taller man, the conversation coming to a close as they reached the place where they would part. “Be seeing you!”
“Yeah... see you, Hiyori.” Shin replied, giving a friendly wave as he turned his back on him and began walking. He anticipated the worst — exercise was definitely not his strong suit, and his home was a ways away. Plus the exhaustion of today was still lingering — life just seemed to never favour him. Heaving a sigh, he continued trekking on, eyes casted towards the ground.
Until he came into contact with something — man, had he not learned his lesson from  his first encounter with Sou? However, he managed to stay upright this time — which was a plus.
“Oh, so- sor—“
“Oh hey look!! It’s the tiny green twink!”
His blood ran cold as he glanced up at the man. Shin couldn’t remember his name, but his cold piercing gold glare and muscle bound arms, he could tell that this was bad news. Behind the man, there were two other men similarly built — strong jawed and buff builds.
“Wow, we managed to catch him without his boyfriend, haha!” The dark-haired one piped up, advancing towards Shin. Already trembling and fearing the worst, Shin took a step back with terror, eyes stuck on the man infront.
“Rare occurrence, really.” Spoke the red-head that Shin had so callously bumped into. The burly man bent down to Shins height with a mocking grin. “You deaf there, gay boy? Wanna use your words?”
“U- um- he’s— hes not my boyfriend.” Shin managed to heave out, his breathing coming in shakily and unsteadily. He was greeted by laughter — cruel, mocking laughter, one which Shin had wished he’d never have to endure. And yet here he stood, legs shaking underneath the unsettling air.
“Yeah, right, you cling onto him like some lost puppy. Get outta here.” the blonde one  laughed, taking his place on the right of Shin. “He must find you so cute! How is he in bed?”
Shins eyes widened at the lewd remark, both in fear and disgust. He wanted to bite back with his own comment, but his throat was clogged and he was too focussed on trying to keep the tears out of his eyes. He wasn’t weak, he wasn’t a pushover; this wasn’t going to break him.
“Pfft, cat got your tongue?” The ginger mused (obviously the leader of the pack). “Come on, answer him. Does it feel good?”
Words didn’t come at all. Shins mind was a mess of panicked thoughts and no response came to his lips.
The blonde ones expression morphed into one of annoyance. “Oi, it isn’t a little disrespectful to ignore someone. Come on, you freak, answer me!” He growled, placing his hands on Shins shoulders and shoving him back.
Shin fell over with ease, landing on his behind. He took no time scrambling to get back up, but his head was spinning. His hands seemed to be closing in on themselves involuntarily, and his cheeks were made aware of the hot tears now spilling down, dropping onto the floor.
He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t think, he couldn’t do anything but let the tears fall and hope that this situation would be over.
Out of the corner of his eye, he could see a green-haired boy throw a punch at his bullies. He couldn’t hear anything — his ears were ringing quite loud. Shutting his eyes with fear, he brought his knees to his chest and tried to breathe.
Pain, all he felt was pain, burning, searing pain, make it stop, please, stop—
“Shin.”
With a trembling jaw and sore eyes, Shin perked up to be met with familiar, piercing eyes. Though, accompanied by them, was a bloody gash on his cheek, and his smile was faltered.
Sou giggled. “My word, you’re awful at defending yourself. Your old pal had to come and save you!” He mused, smiling. Shin didn’t have the energy to smile back at all — something that usually came easy to him seemed like such a difficult task.
Sou stood up with a small sigh and offered his hand for Shin to take. Still in a daze, Shin took the hand and stood up, almost immediately falling into Sous chest.
“Did they hurt you?” Came Sous voice, his tone much more hushed than usual. They? Who’s they? As Shin scrambled his brain, the only thing that came to mind were piercing gold eyes. And something about that thought brought tears back to Shins eyes — though they felt all too familiar in this setting.
“There, there. You’re totally fine now.” Sou mumbled, welcoming Shins trembling shoulders and embracing him. Shin cried softly into the taller boys chest — there was a feeling of absolute terror still lingering, making his heart clench and palms sweaty. Beyond anything, though, he was exhausted — it was everything he could do to not let his knees cave in and fall to the ground. Sou seemed to take note of this as he put a firm hand on the back of Shin's head. The two stayed like that for a few minutes, not daring to move. It seemed... deathly silent. The sun was beginning to set - how long had Shin been immobile? Where were the people that had started to harass him? Did they leave after Sou had defended him? Why did they leave? Sou was certainly quite scary, but he wasn't built as strongly. ... Did they feel the same as Shin did? The paralyzing fear that seemed to plague him daily, whenever he looked into Sou's eyes? Confused, he let Sou take his hand and lead him out of the small alleyway, and before long they had arrived at Shin's house. Shin seemed to be in a daze as he did his nightly chores and climbed into bed, passing out as soon as his head hit the pillow. And the next day, when the teacher had announced that there were two students absent because they were hospitalized, Shin paid no mind. All he could think of were the bright blue eyes of his close, good friend. Just how dangerous was Sou Hiyori?

@kurisus tagged me to pick 4 songs I’ve had on repeat lately and it sounds super fun to do so why not! Btw I added two of the songs on your list and already had the Eden song, he’s been a favorite for years. Wonderful taste in music c:
1. IB4U by Her Bright Skies: So this song originally came out in 2012 but they did a harder version of it for a re-release in 2020 and it made me love the song all over again. (The original softer version is called I’ll Be For You). When I heard the re-release, which btw was a surprise because the band separated a few years back, I was instantly hit with Noragami feels from the lyrics. I thought it fell in pretty good with the current arc following Yukine, Hiyori and Yato. “Underneath it all we’re just the same you and I.” (Yukine & Yato) “I’ll be the flowers that they place on your casket.” (Hiyori placing flowers on the fridge) “I’ll be the love that we knew would never last.” (Yatori Obvi) “I’ll be the moon when the last sun is setting.” (Yato). Not only that but I actually won a contest years back when the band was still consistently making music where they sent me a hand written lyric sheet and it was this song. Have it framed and everything. They also sing a bit in their native language (Swedish) which I think was really cool as well. Also it’s just a good fucking jam.
2. Ice Melts by Megosh: This song is really old but I just recently stumbled upon it. The melody is so catchy, the lyrics are so fun to sing and the little story it tells is just really cool. For the longest time i played this on repeat in my car and would sing it on the way to work, the second verse is definitely my favorite to roll off the tongue.
3. Strangers by Biosphere: okay so listen, I’ve actually been obsessed with this song for 2 years. Its that good. I love love love rapping the main part of the song and I love the mix of languages as well. It took me so many times to get the lyrics down as well as the timing. I’m usually not one to like rap songs but this one is so fun to go along with specially when you’re stuck in an hour long traffic jam. But if anyone asked me right now to rap this word for word, I totally could. I actually remember being so proud that I got it down perfectly that I went up to my manager at the time and asked if I could rap to her. She laughed her ass off but fully enjoyed the song and seeing me have fun. But no, I can’t sing the beginning Korean part. I can try but I definitely butcher the pronunciations.
4. Ippiki Ookami - Yuki Akira: If you didn’t know I listen to a lot of Japanese songs and not just ones I find from anime, just ones I happen to find when venturing out on Spotify. Most of the time I have no idea what they’re saying unless I look up the lyrics but a lot of the time i find myself liking music just for the sound and not specifically for the lyrics. This one just has an amazing melody, voice, rhythm, fucking everything man. I love how you can hear the raw emotion in her voice in some of the verses and I strive to find that in songs.
I think I’ll tag @shinkimiope @swatato @asin-ka and @butterflies---instead if you guys feel like it of course c:

Red Strings Cannot Be Broken
@yatoriweek2020 Soulmates prompt. Gomen, gomen, it’s totally rushed and I since I suck at action scenes, fair warning it’s minimized as much as possible lol and I can’t help but think angst when I write this ship ;-; Aged up, Hiyori is 19. Total idk canon divergence.
Tumblr media
Just as Yato, Bishamon and their Shinki’s reach the scene, Father cackles and drives a katana through Hiyori’s corporeal body. “You’re all such gullible idiots! She was always your weakness son. Three years we’ve done this dance and I was always one step ahead.”
The young woman stumbles backwards and collapses, holding onto her stomach. A reddish stain forming, seeping through the fabric and growing in diameter every second that passes by.
“So now what are ya gonna do?” the grinning sorcerer questions. “For betraying me, I will take away everything you love!”
“You sonofabitch!” The stray god screams and makes a move to rush forward.
“There’s no hope for her, see.” The man points the sword back at the dying girl with a menacing smiles. “Poor girl, if only she hadn’t met you.”
“Yato,” Bishamon yells as she takes off towards Father. “You get to Hiyori!”
A battle ensues between the goddess of war and the sorcerer as Yato rushes to the young girls side. He picks her up, cradling her body in tears. “Hiyori, don’t die on me, please!” But it really was too late, for her breathing had ceased and he could find no pulse. “Fuck!!!”
“Yato what are we gonna do?!” Yukine shakes him. “W-We can’t let her just die!” The poor boy was still in agony over his time of betraying the stray god and now the guilt of losing Hiyori was slowly taking hold. Nora stays quiet, hugging to the boy to keep him from doing anything rash.
“There’s only one thing I can think of…” the man mumbles. As the fight around them escalates, the pair watch a puffkine appear above the body.
Reading off his master, Yukine’s eyes widen. “I-Is that a good idea?!”
“I don’t know.” Her soul didn’t appear as an ayakashi, so that was a promising sign. Yato places her body back on the ground and stands before the floating spirit. There was no way to know for sure what would happen and no time to think it through. Performing his spell, he turns her into a regalia, but instead of giving her his family name of ne, keeps the human name Hiyori and makes her vessel name Majoki.
They watch as the woman they knew as Hiyori manifests, standing before them. “W-Where am I?” She questions the trio. “Who are you?”
Yato grabs hold of her by the arms to keep her from turning around and seeing her body too soon. He smiles. “I know this must be confusing right now, but I just want to tell you before it’s too late…” he leans his forehead against hers and closes his eyes. “I love you Hiyori. Soon I pray, it’ll all make sense again, but just remember I love you.” He whispers something the others two couldn’t hear, then pulls away and kisses her hand before releasing them.
He then turns to his Shinki. “Nora, make her see,” is all he quietly says, indicating to the girl to break the seal of the Gods greatest secret.
“But Yato, that might destroy her.”
“I pray it won’t. Please keep her safe for me Nora.” He places a final kiss on Hiyori’s confused cheek. “Come Sekki, we must finish Father right here and now before he does any more damage.”
Yukine transforms into a sword and the pair rush off to assist Bishamon. The boy asks Yato what he’d told Hiyori before they’d left and the God simply answered with, ‘remember me.’ But there was no time to question further. They needed to focus for Father was as skilled as any of them and a powerful sorcerer that could conjure and control ayakashi to attack them. This would be a fight to the death, either theirs or his.
Nora pulls Hiyori away behind some trees, and away from the current fighting. She hesitates for a moment unsure of exactly how to accomplish her task. As Chiki, she could wield the liberation spell that broke the secret, but without it, she would have to trigger it. The strange part was, normally telling a Shinki their true name would do just that, but Yato had given the woman back her real name and it didn’t do anything. Hiyori just appeared to have no memories of her past life.
“Do you have any idea who I am?” Nora questions, but receives a ‘no’. “How about Yato, the one who just spoke to you?” Again, the woman pauses, then shakes her head slowly no. “Yukine? The boy?” Nothing.
“That man… that man said he loves me. He sounds sincere, but I don’t remember anything. Were we in a relationship?”
“Sort of. You’ve been together for I think 3 years now. Inseparable, and you loved him too.”
“I did?”
Nora nods her head. “You… you died trying to save him.”
Hiyori’s eyes widen at those words. She was dead?! “I’m dead?!” Her hands fly up to her head, palms flattened against the sides as a suddenly whirling sound rustles in her brain. The noise grew, a myriad of voices, images hurtling through her mind so quickly, she couldn’t process what was happening to her. “No, no, no!”
The young girl grabs hold of the woman’s arms to keep her steady as she starts to shake uncontrollably. “Your name really is Hiyori. Hiyori Iki. You saved the god Yato once from getting hit by a bus and it turned you into a hanyou. After that you two became inseparable. You were with him when you found Yukine.”
“I don’t understand any of this!” Tears pour down the woman’s face. She was utterly confused at what this girl was telling her and yet somehow knew it was all true. How did she know it was true?!
It was a good sign to Nora that Hiyori wasn’t transforming into an ayakashi yet, but as the woman’s mind fought to unlock the secrets of her life, the pain appeared to be excruciating and the risks of being consumed were great. When she herself had learned the truth about her life, for some strange reason it never affected her and that was why she could wield liberation. Yukine too surprisingly had come through the process without completely breaking down.
“Over time, you and Yato grew closer and closer, and you helped him a lot. I believe it’s because of you that he’s completely changed for the better. You and Yukine are his family. Father, the guy they’re fighting now, he’s trying to destroy it all and he killed you because he knew your death could kill Yato too. But the only way to bring you back in a way, was to turn you into a regalia. That gives a lost spirit purpose again.”
Hiyori wanted to scream and run away. This was madness. A god, spirits, bringing back people from the dead?!! She could hear the battle raging just out of her sightline. And this girl. “Who are you then?”
“I’m Nora, one of Yato’s regalia like you. He calls me his little sister. We used to work for Father in the old days but we’ve both been betrayed by him. Yato realized it sooner than I did, but that man was only using us to wage his war with the Gods of Heaven.”
Great now Gods of Heaven as in plural. Hiyori’s head was spinning, and she felt like throwing up. “I love you Hiyori. Soon I pray, it’ll all make sense again.” Is what the man had said and even though her brain was not comprehending everything going on, her heart was telling her to remember it all... To remember... Hiyori gasps, “Remember me…”
A sharp pain shoots through her head, so she cradles it in her hands from the sudden spike. ‘Remember me…’ Hiyori cries out once and her vision goes black.
Hiyori Iki, 19 years old. Born to Sayuri and Takamasa Iki, brother of Masaomi, and born on June 28th. Everything about her life flashes as images in her minds eye. How she’d met Yato at the age of 16 through a near-death experience. Becoming a hanyou, The Far Side, the Gods, everything was rushing back in the blink of an eye.
As quickly as it began, it ended, and a final memory paused like on a movie screen. It was an image of Kofuku holding up the matching making tablets… ‘I— remember…’ Her feelings for Yato had started long before the god of poverty had interceded, but perhaps, that goddesses intervention truly sealed their bond eternally in a red string of fate? ‘That’s right…’ she’s starting to put the connections together. Learning who she really was should have driven her insane. It hurt, but…
Hiyori’s eyes open and finds herself lying on the ground with Nora kneeling beside her.
“Oh, thank the Kami’s you’re back,” the girl breathed out a sigh of relief. “I didn’t know what was going on, you just suddenly collapsed again.”
“Thank you, Nora,” she sits ups slowly. “I-I remember who am.”
A strange, invigorating energy was thrumming inside of Hiyori and she wondered if this is what the weapon aspect of a Shinki felt like. But Yukine had never mentioned feeling an odd sensation, and even weirder, she didn’t sense a regular weapon in her soul. The name Yato had given her was not of a normal tool but matched her abilities even while she was still alive.
She turns to Nora, “I need to help Yato. We need to help Yato.”
“There’s nothing we can do unless he calls for us,” the young girl replies. “And he probably wouldn’t want you anywhere near the fighting.”
Hiyori lifts up her hands and focuses on them, reaching deep within her very essence and feeling the energy burning inside of her. Nora watches in fascination and downright amazed surprise when they begin to glow. She’d become the perfect weapon to defeat a sorcerer.
“I don’t care what Yato thinks,” the woman steels her resolve. “He needs my help.”
With Nora following close behind, Hiyori rushes over to where the Gods were fighting. They see others had joined in the battle. Kofuku & Daikoku. Tenjin, Ebisu, and several others that Father had not yet brought to their knees. Amaterasu and Heaven’s army had already suffered devastating losses prior to this event, and this fight with his son, was Father’s last obstacle. The two girls stand at the top of a hill surveying the battle, and when Yato senses them he turns to look.
That lapse in focus also catches Father’s attention. He breaks away from one attack and rushes towards Yato.
“Call my name now!!” Hiyori screams to the stray God.
He hadn’t planned on letting Hiyori anywhere near this fight, but overwhelming energy flooding off his Shinki was something he’d never heard of or felt in his life. Without another second of hesitation, he screams, “Majoki!!”
The flash of light from the vessels transformation was not only blinding but sent out a wave of energy that sent Father flying backwards from the shockwave. Even the other Gods stopped what they were doing in confusion. No new weapon manifested in Yato’s hand, only a red tasseled cord wrapped loosely around his neck.
Whatever miko abilities Hiyori had in life were now amplified ten-fold as a Shinki. Her connection to Yato and their love for one another transcended death because of their tied fate and as his regalia turned her into his strongest weapon against this kind of foe. How do you fight a sorcerer? With sorcery.
“Whoa what the hell powers does she have now?!” Yato hears Yukine asking him in his mind. “Even I can feel her!”
“Y-Yeah, even I’m surprised,” the God answers back. It all felt a little strange because it was so different than any other Shinki he’s ever had. Hiyori’s powers didn’t flow from a tool… Yato became the tool.
“Bind his powers Yato. He is nothing without his magic.”
“But how?! That’s a Shinki’s ability not a Gods.”
“You shall wield us,” she responds in his mind with no hesitation. “All you need to do is strike Father once and I will send the power through Sekki. Once he’s wounded my magic will seep through to affect the spell. Then you all attack for he will be a mere human.”
“We can do this Yato,” Yukine responds as well. “As a team.”
“No,” the God breathes out with a smirk, “as a family. Hiki!!!” He pulls his third vessel into the fray.
“Yato what are you thinking, three of us will sap a lot of your energy,” Nora scolds the God.
“Well then we better make this quick!”
“Guys!” He screams at the other Gods. “Let’s back him into a corner fast! I got a plan!”
After being thrown back, Father scrambled to his feet ready to take on the next challenger. With Yato’s call of collaboration, God after God along with their Shinki’s levy a multitude of attacks at the sorcerer forcing him into a defensive. There’s just too many things coming at him to counter. He tries to call ayakashi’s to his aid, but they are either killed off quickly or Hiyori and Nora combine their energies to control the spirits.
Finally, the constant barrage is taking a huge toll on the sorcerer and everyone can sense it. The male is using a significant amount of energy to fight back, and it’s rapidly depleting. A solid blow from Bishamon sends him hurtling into the trunk of a tree. He hits his back hard against it and falls straight down. Then, before he can get to his feet, Yato sweeps in with two solid strikes by Chiki and Sekki, cutting a deep gash over the sorcerers torso.
Father screams in searing pain as he feels the burn of Hiyori’s magic soak into his flesh. “No! No! No! this cannot be!!” It travels outward from the wound until it encompasses his entire body, binding his magic, and sapping any ability beyond a physical confrontation. He sinks to the ground, clutching to his chest and abdomen, in agony. “That bitch!”
“Oi,” Yato narrows his eyes and puts the blade of Sekki to the man’s throat, “don’t call her a bitch just because she out classed you.” It was starting to dawn on the stray God that his meeting Hiyori truly had a purpose.
The man grits his teeth as adrenaline from pain and anger fires through his nerves. “Fuck you!!”
“Tch. You thought you knew me, us so well that you thought you could manipulate things. But you never did old man. Your hate ends now.”
At that moment, the war goddess grabs the fallen sorcerer by the fabric of his yukata and yanks him to his feet. “Heaven has rendered their full judgement upon you. Amaterasu will make your death a painful one I’m sure.” With the help of some of Heaven’s soldiers, the mortally wounded sorcerer is flown away to receive his divine punishment.
Yato releases his Shinki’s and collapses from exhaustion. Thank the Kami’s it was over because he wasn’t sure how much longer he would have lasted. There would be a lot of explaining to do but it could wait. First things first.
“Yukine, Nora, could you two wait for me at Kofuku’s?” the stray god requests of his regalia. “I need to talk to Hiyori.”
“Don’t do anything else crazy!” Yukine shakes his finger, scolding the man.
“Come on,” Nora pushes at her friend. “I doubt she’d let him.”
Once the pair is leaving, he turns back to the woman sitting patiently beside him. “Hiyori…” he felt guilty that he wasn’t able to save her life, and now wasn’t sure what to say. “I’m sorry I failed you.
“I don’t blame you,” she takes his hand. “It was my fault for getting in the way.”
“But Father was right, if only you’d never met me… o-or if I’d cut your ties sooner, you’d still be alive.”
“Yato, listen to me.” She cups his cheeks in her hands and holds his gaze. “Do not blame yourself for any of this. I made my choices and you honored my wish. Am I sad that my family won’t be able to see me anymore, of course? They’ll be heart broken, but we both know this was the only way to make my final wish come true because no matter what,” her voice softens into a smile, “I love you too.”

Yatori Week Day 2- Reunion/Fate
@yatoriweek2020
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/25401826/chapters/61657333
Fanfic: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13648502/1/Yatori-Week-2020
If Yato had to pick a point in his life he would rather forget, it was high school. Looking back, high school did nothing for him. He went right into work after he graduated, and his failing grades only served as fuel for his father's rage. He didn't make friends, save for Kazuma, and he was generally disliked by the entire student body for causing trouble and being all around frightening. It was a dark time for Yato all around and despite the fact that he knows better now and he's changed, didn't mean he felt the need to prove it to people who never cared.
There was really no reason for him to go to his highschool reunion. Kazuma said he would be there, with that vicious high-school sweetheart of his, but confessed he would understand if Yato didn't want to go. Not that Yato wasn't proud of his life now, he was finally safe and living fairly comfortably. And it was safe to assume his classmates had changed too, not that they were ever particularly mean to him.
Despite all that, Yato found himself standing just outside the door to the gymnasium, waiting for Kazuma to show up with the witch as his date. He looked down at himself, Kazuma had lent him a clean button-up and shoes, something Yato's son scoffed at when he showed them. Yato was embarrassed to admit his kid helped tie his tie, insisting on using the cologne of his choice that he would apply himself. Originally, his kid picked out a darker outfit, a mature version of the clothes Yato used to wear so everyone could see he was still a badass and "not a total embarrassment" as his kid so lovingly put it.
"I don't see what's wrong with wearing mostly black," his son shrugged as Yato buttoned up his shirt, "it's not like you're a pillar of the community now."
"Come on, Yukine. I'm a much better person now, trust me," Yato looked at the teen, "Besides, if they're dumb enough to think that then who am I to correct them." He grinned as Yukine scoffed again and rolled his eyes, keeping the smile as his kid eyed the navy strip of cloth. What was he thinking? Adopting a teenager with such sass.
"Seriously?" Yukine had asked when Yato wrapped the tie around his neck.
"Yes, seriously," Yato said back, scowling at the snake he tried to wrangle. Yukine stepped forward.
"Is this to piss off Bishamon? Because you promised Kazuma you would stop picking fights with his girlfriend." Yukine reminded his dad as he searched how to tie a tie.
"No it's not to piss off the skank," Yato said, squirming as the real reason began to bubble up his throat.
"Then why the charade? Kazuma already knows what you're like and it's not like he cares what his former-student council members think of you."
"Hiyori's gonna be there," Yato muttered with a red face.
"Hiyori?" Yukine parroted, "Who's Hiyori?" When his kid looked up and saw his face, his fingers stopped and his eyes grew big with understanding.
Who's Hiyori? That was the golden question. Hiyori Iki was, well, a normal girl. In highschool she didn't stand out too much; she had average grades and slightly above average looks. She hung out with two other girls in a group of three as most people do and she was never involved in any clubs or activities. In class she sat normally, with normal appliances, and raised her hand and answered questions just as any other student. How did Yato know all this? Because he was in love with her. A love that turned him into a bit of a stalker in highschool, another one of his awkward quirks.
Their lockers were put next to each other when they started freshman year and remained that way until graduation. Being the closet romantic that he was, Yato thought it was fate, and quickly fell head-over-heels with the pretty girl. The reason might have been because she extended the olive branch first, introducing herself confidently and shaking his hand without reservation. But either way, Yato talked to her every chance he got, going to his locker between every period even when he knew he wasn't going to class. He helped fix her locker and other things now and again too. On the rare occasion they shared a class, he made sure to have a folder and get there in time to walk with her. Once their second year rolled around, Yato had mastered memorizing when she would go to her locker and spreading it out so she wouldn't get suspicious. He was also a master of making her laugh once a day.
But that was it. He never confessed or anything grand, never hung out with her away from their lockers. So it was ridiculous that he could safely say he was in love with her. What was even more ridiculous was that she was the main reason he came to tonight. Not because he planned on talking to her, no, no, no. If all went as planned she would have no idea he even came. But he had to see her, because he still thought about her from time to time and hearing about her made him blush like an adolescent. He came today to see if it was still love. If he was truly hopeless and was cursed to be hung up on someone who probably didn't even remember him.
"Not that I'm going to talk to her if it is," Yato muttered to himself. He nearly leaped out of his skin when the metal door unlocked and creaked open. This door was in the back of the gym, under a single lightbulb where no one would see, but clearly he should have hid somewhere else.
"Yato?" Kazuma's brown head poked around the door.
"You scared me," Yato sighed but gave his friend a smile.
"I knew you'd be here," Kazuma said as he looked Yato up and down. This was where Yato would go to smoke while he played hooky, but he kicked the habit long ago and wiggled his empty fingers at Kazuma to prove it.
"How was your trip, man?" Yato held out his hand for Kazuma to take it, pulling him in.
"It was good!" Kazuma said in the hug while they patted backs, "she, uh. She said yes." Kazuma spoke like a sigh only to gurgle out a noise when Yato pushed him back by his shoulders.
"You're engaged!" Yato exulated, "Congratulations!"
"Thank-you-Ya-to," Kazuma tried to speak while Yato shook him back and forth. Air was forced out of his lungs as Yato stopped him and instead threw his arm around Kazuma's neck.
"I didn't think you had it in ya," Yato smirked at his friend who only sighed.
"There's no way I would have been able to do it without you," Kazuma's doubt was evident, even in his happiest moment. Yato brushed it off like always.
"Oh please, I supported you but I certainly wasn't in the Bahamas with you. Not that I don't want to know everything." This got Kazuma to laugh as he shrugged off Yato's arm.
"I'll only tell you about it if you come in," he watched Yato grimace and lean back against the wall, "they have drinks."
"Like alcohol?" Yato challenged.
"Yes, alcohol." Kazuma was already DD for his fiance, might as well watch Yato since they were cut from the same cloth. Yato made a noise of debate, looking at the ground so he didn't see Kazuma's look of pity.
"She's not here yet." Kazuma said.
"She's not?" Yato shot up, "Is she coming?" His voice held desperation. He didn't even acknowledge the fact Kazuma already figured out his plan for being here, or even who "she" was. Not that it was hard.
"No, she's not. But it's still kinda early and there's enough people in there where she wont see you when she comes." Kazuma spit out a laugh when Yato visibly relaxed. Happier than ever, Yato followed his friend inside.
The gym was decorated in white and blue ribbons and balloons. White table cloths lined the walls with cushioned chairs while the center was left open for dancing and mingling. A DJ was pumping out music towards the back while a long refreshment table lined the opposite wall. As Kazuma led him to the drinks, Yato scanned the faces of the crowd, recognizing maybe a quarter of them but hardly coming up with any names. When they neared the drinks, Yato spotted a familiar blonde head and groaned audibly.
"Be nice," Kazuma tried, but it was too late. Miss Fiance turned to smile at her significant other only to see the bane of her existence next to him.
"You're here?" Bishamon growled at Yato who scowled back. She was over-dressed as always, not only wearing a gown but also having a full-on hair due while decked-out in jewelry. She's lucky Kazuma wore a tux to match.
"Yeah, I used to be a student here."
"Hardly." She crossed her arms as Kazuma stepped between them and put in an order. Despite her previous irritation, Bishamon was more than happy to tell the story of their vacation while clinging to her lover's arm. It was clear she was trying to make Yato jealous while showing off her engagement ring, so he took great pleasure in informing her he helped pick it out.
"So, how's Yukine?" Kazuma quickly while Bishamon glared daggers at the both of them.
"He's good," Yato could talk about his kid for hours, "school's going good and his team's on track to the championship."
"That's great!" Kazuma cheered. Bishamon stating her compliment too.
"Yeah, he's really excited and I can't wait take more pictures- oh fuck." Yato's voice died immediately.
"I hope you don't talk like that in front Yukine!" Bishamon gasped. Kazuma jumped to calm down another argument- knowing how territorial his friend was about his child- only for Yato to be frozen in what looked to be shock. With a prediction in mind, Kazuma looked towards the main entrance and locked on to "she."
"What the hell's wrong with you?" Bishamon deadpanned only for her fiance to tap her arm.
"Miss Iki's here," he subtly informed her, pointing to the woman in question. Bishamon's face whipped to the man in front of her doing a wax-statue impression.
"You're still into her?" Her shrill question when unheard as Yato fell into tunnel vision.
The room stopped, the world stopped, any other existence in the room blurred into nothing leaving only Hiyori Iki. All sounds and flashing lights faded leaving only his hammering heart and the angelic lighting that seemed to surround her. Her dress was burgundy, hugging her sides nicely and stopping mid-thigh. In highschool her hair was rather long, brushing just above her waist, but tonight she had it in a bun while strands framed her face.
"Fuck, Kazuma," Yato swallowed, "It's love. I'm in love."
She walked through the cheesy balloon entrance with a wide smile, looking at the gym in awe and nostalgia. He pitied his past self for never seeing the woman with black heels on, knowing the image would stay with him forever. Next to her was one of her two friends and their boyfriend, the same one from highschool. They chatted for a bit before the third best friend made her appearance for a hug, an unfamiliar young man in tow.
"She came alone," Kazuma said, happy but surprised. Yato swallowed thickly at the thought, eye raking the woman up and down as he admired her change from cute teen to beautiful woman. What the hell? Was it not enough for the puberty truck to hit her once, it had to go in reverse and hit her again after graduation?
"No, she didn't," Bishamon asked as someone stepped through the door and made his way towards Hiyori. It only took one second for Yato to plummet from cloud nine as recognition crawled through his chest, dark and green.
"Fujisaki," Yato growled at the same time as Bishamon. He was the head of the newspaper who tended to write mean gossip rags about the people he didn't like. Yato and Bishamon were some of those people.
"Well hold on, just cause he's with them doesn't mean they're together," Kazuma urged, "They could have just met in the parking lot!" His explanation fell on deaf ears as his love and his friend glared at the poor guy who happens to stand much too close to Hiyori.
Yato was having trouble getting his body under control, his heart and stomach kept doing somersaults while sweat everywhere. He felt the other two give him looks of pity, Kazuma reaching out to tap Yato's shoulder. Jolting out of his trance, Yato's face whipped to them- the intensity of his expression causing them to flinch- he then looked to the drink in his hand. He wasn't sure what Kazuma gave him, but it smelled strong enough, so Yato chugged the entire plastic cup.
"Oh my," Bishamon winced at him while he chugged.
"Y-Yato please, the food hasn't been served yet," Kazuma reached to stop him, but the empty cup was crushed like it was a rave and tossed in the trash.
"You have to talk to her," Yato insisted to Bishamon. Her brows shot to her forehead before she scoffed.
"I am not talking you up to Hiyori. Especially if you plan on getting wasted."
"No! No I am not talking to her," Yato said, horrified, "I just want to know how she is." He twiddled his fingers as Bishamon regarded him.
"You mean you want me to find out if she's single."
"I want to know if she's happy." Yato spoke to the floor. He missed the looks they gave him as he watched his thumbs to a dance. Out of a new habit, Yato raked his gaze over the growing crowd. He spotted Hiyori taking a seat at the table with her friends, Fujisaki pushing in her chair before sitting next to her.
"Fine," Bishamon shrugged, pulling Yato out of his scowl.
"Viina?" Kazuma questioned his fiancé as she crossed her arms.
"What? Hiyori and I got along great, I quite like her. I was planning on talking to her anyway," Bishamon said with a shrug. With a flick of hair over her shoulder, Bishamon stalked her walk across the floor like she owned it. The boys watched her go, Yato chugging only half his cup while Kazuma sent smirks at his former classmates while wiggling his ring finger.
Hiyori must have felt some sweaty, former-delinquent staring at her cause those gorgeous eyes turned to him. Yato felt his muscles lock up again as the world became irrelevant once again. This time was worse, much worse, but so much better. Her eyes were still the same as they were years ago, big and brown. It was clear she recognized him, but Yato couldn't tell if that made him scared or elated. He didn't know what to do, he couldn't remember how normal people responded with his brain short-circuiting. Just as he had half a mind to wave, Hiyori sent a smile that pierced his heart like an arrow. Yato was left gaping like a fish while another girl grabbed Hiyori's attention and the moment was gone.
"Let's get a table," Kazuma put a hand on Yato's shoulder and led him towards a table barley in sight of Miss Iki.
Dinner was served but Yato spent most of the time drooling over Hiyori while she chatted. Bishamon had been able to talk with Hiyori before dinner was handed out. She came back saying Hiyori was doing very well as a strong, independent woman. Much to Yato's utter delight. Feeling like he accomplished something, Yato tried to leave before the food, but Kazuma convinced him to stay with drinks.
Now, Yato was left alone at an empty table, flicking his phone open and closed as Kazuma waltzed his tispy fiance across the floor. At some point the lights were turned down low as colorful spotlights danced across the former students. Opening his phone again, Yato looked at the last handful of text messages to his kid. Yukine gave his congratulations when Yato told him about the engagement, and informed Yato that he was fine staying over a friend's house. The kid tried to convince his dad to send a picture of the woman in question, only to be firmly shut down. Apparently that meant the kid was ignoring him now, so Yato was left alone. As usual.
With a sigh, Yato pushed his chair out and braced himself as his vision swam. It was hard to focus on how many cups were scattered around the table, and how many were his, but once he could manage his balance, Yato slinked along the wall. He moved through the darkened room unnoticed like a ghost. He didn't go to any school dances but he imagined this is what would have happened. Especially with Hiyori being swept across the floor by her definitely-date Fujisaki.
Not in any state to drive home, Yato let himself wander around the empty school, loosening his tie and unbuttoning the top of his shirt. The rest of the building was much cooler, lights mostly turned off and hallways empty. Yato passed by his favorite room, the art room, and took a glance at the newspaper to see it cover much lighter topics.
Head much more clear, Yato found himself coming up to a very familiar area: his locker. He let himself stand in front of it, noticing it lacked his graffiti but was pretty much the same. Out of habit he looked to his right, Hiyori's former locker just as normal. He let his fingers run over the cool metal, giving it a shake to see his fix-job still working.
"I don't know why he didn't show up, mom! He said he would fix it!" Hiyori's voice echoed from behind Yato, scaring him out of his wits. He panicked as her heels clipped closer and closer from the hallway just behind him, their lockers were a little off to the right of the opening so he could still try to leave before she came. He could still run away.
"I'm still at my reunion so I have to find someone to fix it tomorrow. I'm sorry, mother." Hiyori's disappointed voice stopped Yato in his tracks. When they were younger, Yato would never talk about his family, so he tended to steer clear of those types of conversations, even with Hiyori. On the off time she would talk about her home life, it was usually about her mother.
"Okay. Yeah, okay. Yes, I love you too. Bye," Hiyori hung up and stopped walking. Her face was one of pleasant surprise. Yato was in the same stance he often was while he waited for her. For a moment, she was in a school uniform with a backpack on her shoulder and the boy in front of her was leaning up against the locker with a black jacket and piercings. She blinked and it was gone, instead stood a filled-out young man, in an outfit very different from what he normally wears. It almost made her laugh.
"Hey," Yato greeted quietly.
"Yato," Hiyori breathed like a sigh, already feeling herself smile. Yato grinned back, and although the smile wasn't nearly as sharp as it used to be, the action lit up his blue eyes all the same.
"How have you been?" Yato asked with pink cheeks, "What brings you all the way out here?"
"I've been good and I can ask you the same question," Hiyori stopped directly in front of him, "All thought I remember you saying you don't like crowds and I figured you might come here. To tell you the truth, I wanted to come here too." Hiyori let her eyes fall to their lockers, "Must be fate!" She flashed him a dazzling smile, sending his heart soaring. It hit hard that she remembered he hated crowds and that she wanted to come here too. Did she notice he left? While she was dancing with him?
Yato put on a smile too, a real one that had Hiyori stall for a moment. They shared a laugh together, Hiyori leaning up against her locker next to him. It took a couple moments to get it together, their giddy smiles and breathy laughter starting up everytime they looked at each other.
"So-"
"-How-"
"-Ah-"
"-No-"
"-You first-"
"-I insist-" Their words kept overlapping, Yato and Hiyori laughing harder and harder each time they tried to out-wit each other. At some point during their laughter, they ended up leaning against each other.
"So, are you a big time doctor yet?" Yato said after he caught his breath.
"No, not yet. I'm still in medical school," she looked up at him, "What about you?"
"Oh, I'm a handyman." Yato spoke as confidently as he could, fighting the insignificance he felt.
"Really? You are?" Hiyori sounded happy, not at all under the impression he was jobless. God he loved her.
"Yeah," he said, embarrassed, "after highschool I tried to work several different jobs all the time, as well as doing little fixing jobs around town. Turns out I'm a jack-of-all-trades and word spread. So I'm my own little business." Yato beamed when she gave a little cheer. She was always able to make him feel good about himself, something that always seemed impossible.
"Can you do roofs?" Hiyori asked, excited.
"Sure can!" Yato reached into his pocket for a business card out of habit, only to remember he had none. But before he could say anything, Hiyori stopped him.
"Oh! Um. I can just put in your number," she held up her phone, "If that's okay?"
"Ye-Yeah! Yeah! That's fine! Great even," Yato cursed himself as he fumbled out his phone. Flipping it open, Yato couldn't help the utter thrill of getting her number, only to stop when she let out a weird sound.
"What's wrong?" Yato looked up from his phone.
"Uh, who's that?" Hiyori was staring at his wallpaper with a funny expression. Specifically, a blonde teenage boy in a school uniform with an angry blush. Millions of possible assumptions flew through his mind, all of them having Yato sputtering.
"He's my son!" Yato blurted out, confusing the pretty woman further, "I mean, I adopted him when he was 10- he's 14 now- so he knows I'm not his biological dad! But, uh, yeah, that's my kid. His name is Yukine." Yato prayed that cleared up any misunderstandings, tilting his phone so Hiyori could get a better look. He knows having a son isn't something young, single women look for- it's something he's come to understand from experience- and as much as Hiyori will always hold his heart, the kid comes first.
"He's," Hiyori looked up at him, "so cute!" Her smile grew along with Yato's who laughed.
"Isn't he though? But despite his good looks, he's got a spit-fire personality!"
"Well, he sounds like your son," Hiyori smiled. The way Yato spoke about his kid, with such adoration and admiration, was heartwarming. Her complement wasn't missed by Yato, who choked off and sported a blush similar to the boy in the photo. The only difference was: Yato's face held such bone-deep relief. For some reason, it hurt Hiyori, but she pushed it aside to examine later.
"Okay! Just let me know when and were," Yato said as he typed in her number, "we can talk about price later too."
"Sounds great!" Hiyori bit her lip as she looked up at him, heat spread across her cheeks. They were bent together in a darkened school hallway, talking and smiling at each other as if they were gossiping. Just like they used too. The only difference was the distant smell of alcohol coming from the both of them.
"So," Yato scratched the back of his neck, "are you going to be there?" He tried, eyes widening as her face grew red. Maybe it was the alcohol but Yato was feeling brave. Hiyori was too.
"Well, I can be," Hiyori spoke softly, eyes flickering from his to the floor and back again.
"Not that you have too! If you don't want to, obviously!" Yato said, seeming to remember himself or the situation.
"No, no! I want to!" Hiyori insisted, just as flustered. He misread her tone but her assurance calmed him down and he gave an awkward smile.
"Cool."
"Cool." Hiyori took a deep breath and leaned back against her locker, Yato did the same. A charged quiet filled the hall as bass pulsed from somewhere to in the school. The DJ's quiet announcement echoed that there was a half hour left in the night and Yato- for once- didn't want to leave the school.
Even though he would be seeing her in the future, there was something special about tonight that Yato never wanted it to end. He desperately tried to think of something to say. He wanted to ask her about her school, her future plans, what was the deal with Fujisaki, and how many kids she wanted to have. Part of the DJ's announcement came to mind and he began working up the courage.
"So um," Hiyori spoke suddenly, "you said you adopted Yukine?"
"Yeah," Yato felt his heart droop.
"Can I ask why?" Hiyori turned to look at Yato as he stared straight ahead. He's never told anyone about it before, barely gave Kazuma any details, and the idea of telling Hiyori was tempting. Back in highschool, she often commented on the amount of injuries he always had, thinking it came from picking fights. But the thought of his kid, a former neighbor of the apartment Yato ran away too, was too much to describe.
"That's a story for another day," Yato sighed. A frown tugged at his lips when she hummed an acknowledgement with a look of such disappointment. He mentioned the kid wasn't his biological child, so he wondered the reason.
"So," Hiyori started again. Her eyes searched the tiles for what to say as she worried about her lower lip with her teeth. Yato watched the action as he waited.
"Does anyone else help you take care of him?" She tried, words choppy and unsure. The questioning look Hiyori gave him, embarrassed and brimming with curiosity, startled another laugh out of him. He was relieved, delighted in fact, that she was asking. Or trying too. If only she knew he struggles.
"I'm single," Yato stated after he caught his breath, snorting when she looked caught, the red of her skin stretching to her collar bones.
"O-oh! Right," Hiyori smiled, laughing it off as best she could. Yato smiled with her, his happiness dimming a bit.
"What about you? I never pegged you as a Fujisaki girl?"
"I'm not!" She spoke with such conviction it surprised the both of them. She immediately tried to backtrack, waving her hands while Yato looked at her with great interest.
"We talked a little bit after graduation but that didn't amount to anything. Then, after they sent out the invitations for the reunion, he messaged me and asked if we could go together. I agreed to meet him here, since I was already going with my friend, and that's about it," she sighed, "he's trying, but I, uh," Hiyori tampered off and Yato made a noise of understanding.
"I see."
"Yeah." They both looked towards the ceiling, Yato trying and failing to damper the massive grin on his face. To make matters better, the heavy beat from down the hall softened to something sweeter, just as the DJ announced. Kicking himself off the lockers, Yato stood in front of her and extended a hand. He had always been one to ride his luck out till the bitter end and now was the perfect time to throw caution to the wind.
"Since he's not your date, may I have this dance?" Yato nodded his head in the direction of the gym, watching Hiyori look and listen for a moment before showing him one of her breathtaking smiles.
"I thought you'd never ask," she took his hand and laughed when he tugged her forward. Hiyori once slipped to him that her mother enrolled her in manners classes, something he often teased her about. Meanwhile Yato had worked as a cleaner at a dance studio a couple years ago and picked up a couple things. He said as much.
"What a coincidence," Hiyori hummed with a teasing quirk of the brows.
"Must be fate," Yato teased back, weaving some affection in his tone that had Hiyori smiling softly. They danced through one more song before the music cut out entirely, the DJ announcing his departure. Even so, they drifted into a sway.
"We should probably go," Hiyori hummed.
"Yeah," Yato agred. The night had been long and exciting, the adrenaline and starting to take its toll. Their swaying slowed into a lull and eventually to a stop. For a couple sweet moments, neither of them moved, until a piercing noise startled them apart.
Hiyori babbled our apologies as she pulled out her phone while Yato insisted it was fine. He watched her open some messages and tap away. Glancing over his shoulder, he wondered if he should just say his goodbyes and leave but she spoke up.
"Sorry about that, my friends are looking for me," Hiyori said.
"No that's fine! I mean you did kinda go missing," Yato's joke didn't go over too well so he soldiered past it, "it's fine. It's time to go anyway." He thumbed over his shoulder awkwardly, scuffing his feet as she bit her lip again. He stopped scotting away from her when she didn't move, face troubled with disappointment.
"I'm really sorry, I don't have to- I mean I-" she stepped forward and Yato felt happiness spread through his veins.
"It's fine, really," he gave her a reassuring smile, "I'm going to see you soon anyway. This isn't goodbye." It was true, now that they were reunited he wasn't going to run away. Not again.
"That's right! I'll text you!" Hiyori perked you, sharing his giddy smile. Unfortunately, their cars were parked in different places, so this is where they had to separate. Turning away, Yato tried to message his aching cheeks and debated how long he should wait to contact her.
"Yato!" She called from down the hall. He turned, not bothering to hide the grin still stuck on his face. She shared his expression, if not a bit more embarrassed.
"Listen, um, my brother has kids the same age as Yukine. So, if you wanted to bring him," Hiyori paused as her face softened, "I'd love to meet him." It was impossible to miss the way Yato's body filled with joy. Relief and hope made his eyes hot as he wanted to laugh and cry. How did he ever manage to walk away from someone who lifted the weights off his heart so easily.
"Oh he'll be there," Yato beamed, "I'm sure he'll love to meet you too." With a final wave and wide smiles, the two walked away with warmth and excitement filling them to the brim. Separating for now, and looking forward to the next time they meet.

The first time Rio kidnaps Shin Tsukimi, it’s total chance. He wasn’t being taken seriously as a villain! Keiji would always stop him with a hearty laugh, clearly remembering the silly freshman Rio from high school who could never manage to get along with anyone. He hasn’t been making a large enough impact with petty crime. He needs to go big! Go bold, go home!
So, he stages a large bank heist. He doesn’t need the money, but he does need the publicity. And sure enough, news reporters dole out in the dozens, bracing up against the barriers the police have set up around the bank. Rio surveys the scene again. Okay, so maybe there’s like... three. Good enough. Time to make his move.
He needs someone young, someone cute and pretty to send the town into a tizzy. He plasters a bright grin mask over his face as he leers down at the crowd, a pair of green heads catching his attention. Why the hell is their hair green?
He shakes off the distracting thought and shoots his grappling hook at one of the beams stretching over the front of the bank. It hooks, thankfully (god how mortifying would it have been if he’d missed). Rio rugs at the line to test its security before standing straight, smiling and waving down at reporters below.
And he jumps, the line growing taut and locking in as he arcs down. Someone in his audience gasps and several people point as he descends. Rio spins, just out of pure exhilaration.
Rio awards himself 25 style points.
He touches down, his legs hardly feeling the jarring impact of the concrete and releases the line as he folds into a roll, popping up into a sprint towards the two green haired reporters. Police shout around him as he approaches the police barrier, but a stern glare as he approaches has them hesitating. The taller of the two reporters- with his long, stringy hair pulled into a thin ponytail- hardly flinches. His bright, cold eyes flash warily as Rio approaches, fist clenching more tightly around his microphone. He feels something sinister crawl down his spine and he promptly decides this is not the one. The city would probably relish this slimy loser being taken off their hands. Can’t have that.
But the baby-faced cameraman behind him, with his powder-blue hair and his cozy jacket and beanie? The way he flinches back, jostling the camera on his shoulder? With his soft blue eyes that light up with recognition? That’s the kind of stuff that would have the city in an uproar if Rio were to snap him up.
Rio grins under his mask, skidding to a stop right before the two, so close he bumps the barrier. He pauses, letting the steel-eyed reporter eye him over. The cameraman behind him seems to hesitate, gaze shifting between the two before he hefts his camera higher and angles himself to catch both Rio and the reporter in the shot. Rio aims a happy wave at the camera. The reporter seems to take a breath to steel himself before smiling widely and lifting his microphone.
“I’m Sou Hiyori with ASUNARO News. Can I ask…” He hesitates and Rio rolls his eyes. “Who are you?”
“The name’s Rio Ranger, doll,” he drawls, a flicker of irritation curling in his stomach. He braces his palms over the barrier, leaning in with a sneer. Not that they can see it under his mask. Maybe he should consider a costume redesign. “Shouldn’t you know that if you’re a reporter? I’m not exactly new in town.”
“Maybe you’re not as big a name in this town as you believe then,” Hiyori returns with a smirk. Rio’s grateful for the grinning mask covering his lower face, since the scowl that that twists his lips certainly wouldn’t do anything for his popularity. The cameraman visibly flinches back in fear at the reporter’s words.
“You’re just horrendously underinformed.” Rio casts a glance around, scanning the area to make sure stupid Keiji hadn’t shown up early to crash the party. He’d set a few false leads around town to keep him busy, but certainly not for long.
“So, what do you have planned here?” Hiyori’s words cut through his straying attention, drawing his gaze once more.
“A robbery, naturally.” Rio sighs, lifting his hand to his head as he fakes exasperation. His gaze slides over, looking beyond the camera to lock eyes with the man behind it. He tenses, his grip tightening on the camera. “But that hero of yours will come soon, so… I’m also going to need a hostage.”
Hiyori cocks his head, the microphone dipping a little as his smile turns plastic. “…A hostage, huh? Me?”
Rio tosses his head a back with a laugh. “How presumptuous! I was going to leave it to a majority vote!”
He doesn’t want Hiyori, obviously, but he did write a whole-ass script and by God he was going to stick to it. He has a image to uphold! Or… create, as it may be.
“A vote?” Hiyori’s voice drips with sarcasm as he scoffs and rolls his eyes. “Of course, villainy runs on democracy.”
“Oh, what a snappy political statement.” Rio straightens, gesturing to the other two men. “Anyway, it’s up to you two! I’ll take either you, or your cute little cameraman here!”
“You want Shin?” Hiyori laughs a little, completely ignoring how the cameraman- Shin, apparently, what a cute name- frowns at him. The reporter grins lazily at Rio. “And what if we say no?”
He really doesn’t like this guy.
Bored, Rio pulls a small trigger from a pouch at his waist and presses the bright red button.
The front of the bank behind them explodes outwards, sending debris cascading down around them. Fire rolls toward them in a plume before curling up, smoke quickly filling the air. The ground shakes- Shin falls, the camera rolling to the ground beside him. Hiyori- the bastard- only stumbles back a step, his arm raised to shield his face.
The building shudders but remains standing. Good. It was easy to figure out where to plant the low-grade explosives to seal in his threat, but the building had to stay up for his grand getaway. Everything seems to be going to plan so far. Fantastic!
He laughs, stooping down by Shin, who looks up at him with wide, frightened blue eyes. The bright orange of the flames flick across Shin’s face. He holds up a hand, as if warding Rio off. Adorable.
Rio rolls his eyes and scoops up the camera, easily holding the heavy news camera at arm’s length to catch both himself and Hiyori in the shot.
“Answer enough?”
Hiyori grits his teeth and glowers at Rio. “I suppose.”
“Glad to hear it!” Rio bobs in place, glancing between the reporting duo. “So? Who’ll it be? Sou Hiyori or Shin…?”
He trails off with the question, raising his eyebrows imploringly at the man- who still hasn’t lifted himself off the ground. Shin grips his scarf tightly, mumbling into it. Even if the fire hadn’t been roaring behind him, he doubts he would have heard him. Rio leans in, cupping his hand around his ear. Shin flinches back before visibly taking a moment to gather himself and lean in.
“Tsukimi. Sh-Shin Tsukimi.”
“Adorable.” Rio pops back up, the camera teetering preciously in his hand. Shin’s face pinches and he makes an aborted movement, as if to catch it if it falls. “Okay! Sou Hiyori or Shin Tsukimi? Which of you will be sacrificed to my villainous plans!”
Hiyori takes a quick glance down at Shin and back to Rio. “Is anyone going to get hurt?”
“Nope!” He pops the p, but it’s muffled under his mask. “Well… Unless your hero makes things difficult for me. Or whoever comes with me decides he wants to fight back. Just don’t be a pain and you’ll be fine!”
Hiyori grits his teeth and takes a step back. Shin looks back over his shoulder in disbelief. Hiyori gives Rio a disgusted glare that he then turns on Shin. “I’ll make sure you don’t lose your job.”
“What?!” Shin shouts, gaping up at Hiyori. “I have a little sister to take care of, asshole!” he turns his glare on Rio. “I have a little sister!”
“Unfortunate.” Grinning, Rio shrugs and turns back to Hiyori. “You saying I should take him?”
“Yeah.” Hiyori nods. “I have people who need me.”
“I have a-!”
“A little sister, yes, you talk about her all the time.” Hiyori huffs. Ranger watches, fascinated, as a strange shift comes over Hiyori. The reporter’s face softens, and he kneels beside Shin, whose scowl deepens. “I’ll make sure she’s taken care of. But I have many many people who rely on me. I can easily add your sister to those I protect. But you understand that I have to be there to do that, right?”
Shin clicks his tongue and looks away, raising a hand to grip anxiously at his beanie. “…You promise Kanna will be taken care of.”
“Of course.” Hiyori shares a soft smile with Shin and holds out his hand. Scowling, Shin takes his hand and allows himself to be pulled to his feet. Hiyori reaches out to grip Shin’s upper arms, squeezing reassuringly. Then, almost teasingly, he adds, “Who knows? She may even be better off.”
Shin looks stricken as Hiyori drops his hold, wiping his own palms on his scarf. The two turn towards Rio, whose unamused expression has grown more and more impatient. “Well? You ready?”
He holds out his free gloved hand, wiggling his fingers enticingly. Shin squares his shoulders and ducks under the police barrier, reaching for his hand. He hesitates, shaking fingers hovering over Rio’s palm. Huffing, Rio snags his hand and pulls him snug against his side. Shin cringes away. The villain (supervillain) shoves the camera into his arms. “Hold onto that for me, would ya?”
Shin blinks down at the camera shoved against his chest. “What? Why?”
“Because I need both hands to make sure I don’t drop you.”
“Wait wait drop me? What do you mean, drop me?” Rio takes out his grappling hook again, ignoring Shin’s rising panic shrilling against his ear as he aims it towards the flaming building. “Wait, in there? You’re like a-a robot or something right? You know humans like… burn right?”
Rio laughs. “Stop worrying. You might sweat a little, but I’ll get you through this.”
“Rio Ranger!” A deep voice barks out behind them. Rio tenses, shooting a glare over his shoulder. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
Keiji Shinogi, local superhuman and city hero, rockets down the street towards them, looking more enraged than Rio has ever seen him. Finally.
Shin perks up in Rio’s grasp, making a lunge for the police barrier. “Help!”
The android huffs and tightens his grip around his hostage, muttering about cooperation as he shoots the hook. “Time to go then!”
“Don’t you dare- hnk!” Shin gags as the hook catches and reels them in, choking on his words as Rio’s grip hooks into his stomach. He shrieks, tucking his face in against the crook of Rio’s neck as they zip through the air and into the flames. Rio can’t imagine the cameraman is feeling too well, surrounded by fire with his neck swathed in that deep blue scarf. He shrugs and dashes deeper into the bank, ignoring Shin as he begins to mutter under his breath.
“Safalin!” He shouts, struggling to be heard over the roar of the flames. The building shudders as Keiji shoves open the doors to the bank. Rio hisses, scooping Shin over his shoulder and bolting towards where he planned for his getaway vehicle to be. He hears the camera clatter to the ground behind them.
“Ranger!” Something on the other side of the room shimmers and a bright orange vehicle pops into existence. A bright green head hangs out the window, the blue ribbons on Safalin’s arms fluttering as she waves. “Over here!”
“I know over there, dammit, I planned for you to be there!” He shouts back.
Safalin draws back, scooting into the driver’s seat as Rio pops the door open and tosses his baggage in. Shin grunts as he bounces across the seats, blankly looking down at his wrists when Safalin reaches over and claps a pair of handcuffs on him. “I-I’m sorry, just a precaution…”
“Ranger, if you leave with that hostage things will not go well for-“
Ranger slams the door closed behind him. “Get going!”
Safalin nods and flips a few levers. The car lifts, bobbing the engines adjust for the weight of the car as tilts towards the ceiling. Shin flinches back into the seat.
“Please tell me you’re not about to try to fly through that.”
“Alright.” Rio lowers his mask, grinning down at Shin. Shin frowns up at him. “But you might want to hold on to something.”
They do, actually, fly through the ceiling. Rio climbs onto his knees to stare through the back window. Keiji stands under the hole the vehicle’s made, glowering up at them as they escape.
“Look at him, Saf, look!” Rio points over the back seat, laughing.
Safalin obediently checks the review mirror. “I say you left quite an impression!”
Rio settles back into the seat, kicking his legs up on the dash despite Safalin’s frown. He nudges Shin with an elbow. “No way they can ignore this!”
Shin stares steadily out the window, refusing to acknowledge his captor. Rio rolls his eyes.
He can sulk if he wants. The hostage isn’t even important in the long run.
It’s the response that counts.
