Natsume: You didn't sleep a wink last night. Why not go and grab a few now? Natori [sparkling]: I'm just fine. It takes more than sleep deprivation to dull my dazzling self, so don't you worry your fussy little head. Natsume [concerned]: Nonsense like that is exactly what someone suffering from sleep deprivation would say! Sensei: Oh really? Has he been sleep-deprived every day of his life?
so i've been watching the natsume dub -
#sensei referring to matoba as the 'pirate-princess-tightrope-walker'????? PLSSSS#sensei to natsume about matoba: your wussy little punches won't do jack#also yes sensei he probably has been sleep-deprived every day of his life. this man is a dumpster fire#thanks to qserasera (thank you qserasera!!!) i've been revisiting the natori and matoba episodes#i had started a rewatch earlier this year but got sidetracked early in season 2 so i'm picking up from there#so to refresh my memory i read through the episode summaries i had written for season 1/early season 2#and got SO EMOTIONAL??? just from reading the summaries? what the fuck???#me earlier today: i can't reread le petit prince right now because my heart can't take it#also me: tra la la let's see what natsume is going to do to pulverize my soul into powder today#natsume's book of friends#natsume yuujinchou#natori shuuichi#my posts#anyway i probably would never have tried the dub except that someone put some clips of english dub matoba on here#and i was OBSESSED with the voice acting???#i'm so glad i decided to try it because so many of the line readings are just delightful#natsume and sensei's bickering especially#i don't love madara's youkai voice. and i like the japanese voice playing touko a lot better than the english voice#but it's nice to be able to listen and like do the dishes at the same time! i love subs but you can't really multitask#i guess since this is the dub i should be calling him master not sensei but i'm too used to sensei#i must say though that i'm really enjoying natsume calling him 'master kitty cat' in full earnestness#i don't speak japanese so i wasn't getting the full effect from 'nyanko-sensei'#i get now why tanuma was so embarrassed

Ford pines for headcanons?
YES FUCKCING YES GIRL!!!!!!!! LETS A GO !
A (Realisitic): lovessssss doodling on paper. has an affinity for eyes (;]), swirlies, scribbles, and creatures. whatever he can get his damned hands on he will doodle on it and he will do it happily. my boy's an artist ❤️❤️
B (Not Realistic But Funny): honestly in canon ford's probably into music too much but i can see him being an period music fan. abba, queen (teehee), freetwood mac, david bowie, etc. that's just his VIBE to me, not in the crowley way but in his own strong inks and cigarette smoke way. i associate thoss things with him as well as anythinf existing before 1982 with him alot if u didnt know. i still see something and go "ford missed this 😔" or "ford didn't miss this! 😁" in a sad or happy tone at least once a day /srs. oh i love this guy
C (Heart-Crushing): this kinda collides with D but im keeping it in that category. soul crushing? ford never knowing what to hope for in regards to stan on the other side. whenever he has time to think about it, he isnt sure whether to imagine him in his house or dead in a ditch, and the mystyer honestly scares him more than he'd like to admit. ford kinda treats it like schrodinger's cat in a way--as long as he never confirms, it could really be anything, and that absolves him of any potential guilt. so. (also: that he celebrates holidays out in the multiverse too, when possible. makeshift menoras, pastries in substitute of bday cakes, lighting sticks during new years. just for the sense of grounding. ALSO alsohe's spent at least 3 birthdays in a prison cell or very hurt. so. yeah)
D (Unrealistic but FUCK CANON): has always stuggled with addiction, especially with antidepressants or alcohol. thus sort of snowballs into a whole "if this makes me feel good i cannot have for more than needed" but still ends upgrappling with it anyway. he suffered MAJORRRR withdrawlel when portal stranded and since then swore off it bc he drank the most under bill's influence. it's very important to me and i need more fics about it sooooooo bad, bc while i HAVE written my own, i think someone else is needed to do it justice. now that im remembering this i HAVE read some with this hc and they were beautiful and i need to reread them again and i need to REWATCH THIS DAMN SHOW SO I CAN READ AND WRITE SOME FIC AGAI .... also there IS some evidence as extracted by @/callipraxia (need to find that meta again) but i DOUBT that would ever be canon bc of the kid show rating. (watch the book of bill canonize this seven fucking months from now. i swear to god..../j)

Have you seen that YouTube video where some guy reads every Halo novel back to back and then reviews them? If so what did you think
The Brian David Gilbert one? Oh yeah, all my friends showed me it when it came out. (It was honestly kind of cute seeing how many people thought of me immediately.)
Rewatching it to refresh myself because it's been a couple years and a full-novel reread for me since the last time...
youtube
High fiving BDG because the Master Chief parts of The Flood were definitely the most boring parts.
He didn't have anything to say about First Strike which I think is a shame because I think it's better than The Fall of Reach and actually has A Theme I Find Interesting.
Rightful recognition of Contact Harvest as pretty damn good.
Rightful recognition of the Forerunner Trilogy as dense oldschool-style SF with deep worldbuilding. (Also the San'Shyuum thing.)
I disagree with him about, and have significant problems with, Kilo Five. He is correct that Kilo Five actually delves into some of the dark places in Halo in a way it really needed, and I would even say that its writing is extremely engaging by Halo novel standards. However, while he does notice the obvious parallels between what ONI is doing post-war and the kind of shit the CIA has pulled again and again irl, I think he misses some of the subtext I see where it feels like it justifies some shit a liiiiittle too much if you know the author's irl politics re: the military. He also doesn't seem to notice the character assassinations (particularly of Catherine Halsey) that I and a lot of other fans see/object to in those books. I kind of gaze into the middle distance with a haunted expression at the suggestion that these are the ones to read if you don't touch any of the others just because they are, ironically, so heavy-handed and feel like they treat certain kinds of evil as inevitable in a way that actually feels way worse to me than the excuse plot offered by the earlier/lighter Halo novels. (But idk, that's me? Nobody is committing a crime if they disagree with my frenzied insane person red string diagrams about Kilo Five.)
I'd swap Pariah for Dirt in the Evolutions anthology if it were me, but I think these are solid standouts.
Tumblr media
Broken Circle is neat but really nonessential he's not wrong.
A one-sentence review of New Blood is probably not enough space to get into how fucked up the Spartan-IV program is, but yeah. New Blood is fun if you don't find Buck's first person narration annoying. (It comes and goes for me in that one.)
Tumblr media
BDG you're an absolute sweetheart, I think Hunters in the Dark is kind of goofy in a way I cannot in good conscience ignore if I'm gonna review it. But it really really is so much fun and I love that one a lot anyway. The "it's like Halo 3... 2" observation is solid.
High fiving him again because I also found Last Light disappointing. And it is also a me problem.
Fractures!
Tumblr media
Hell yeah these are all good pulls from Fractures, I would say Shadow of Intent is the pick of the litter in that anthology for me. Interesting that as a Kilo Five enjoyer he didn't single out Rossbach's World, which is the last we've heard about Osman and Black Box. (Also, that one is good.) I think Oasis is worth an honorable mention because I'm an Envoy stan, and the Forerunner stories are interesting but I wouldn't go for them if you don't already have a healthy interest in the trilogy.
This tangent is so fucking funny now that we know more things:
Tumblr media
Oh BDG, oh buddy, it's really not for the people like you and me huh. (Disclaimer: I have no idea if BDG likes the Halo tv show or not and I have no desire to dig up evidence about it.)
Also, while you're here, this is the bloodgulchblog origin story:
Tumblr media
Smoke and Shadow is fun so it's a little sad that when he ends that sentence with "whatever," I can't actually say he's wrong to. (Sorry Rion your part of the lore just.... hasn't... touched anything that touches anything else anymore.)
ENVOY IS GOOD AND EVERYONE SHOULD CARE ABOUT IT okay okay I'm cool I'm normal, anyway. Envoy is the Halo novel that restored my faith in reading Halo novels and reminded me that authors can care and know how to do nuanced, interesting themes in this space. It's great. Everyone in this book has war refugee trauma (except the Spartans which have Spartan trauma) and that's incredible to me. Please care about Envoy if you have spare room in your heart for Halo side characters.
I am cheered to see someone indifferent to the Veta Lopis stories, but I still feel petty for feeling it.
I don't have a lot to say about Legacy of Onyx here but it's always so fun seeing someone else suffer and care.
Bad Blood, the Blood is Bad now is a fun joke but lol yeah. It does have this very vital moment where Chief and Arbiter talk, though. For the first and only time in years.
PROPS FOR NOTICING THE YA NOVELS they're actually pretty nice.
"The Master Chief is the protagonist and boy does he shoot some people" is most of how I feel about Silent Storm and Oblivion too, I know they have their fans but Troy Denning's Chief books don't do much for me personally.
Renegades hadn't had its followup Point of Light yet but yeah, Spark stuff is interesting.
I had to remember that oh yeah, there are multiple books now that didn't exist when this was made. I wonder if he read them?
OKAY I THINK THAT'S ALL I HAD TO SAY as always if y'all want specific book opinions, I might have a tag for them. Or just yell in my ask box, I'm sure I can scrounge up some thoughts.

hihi i hope you don't mind me asking but as a writer myself, i'm curious about how your writing process goes :o it's very evident you do a ton of research for your writing and it got me curious about how you go about research and writing as a whole! thank you for your time and have a wonderful day <3
Hi!! I don't mind at all <3 Thank you for sending this ask, because if there's something I love more than writing, then it's talking about the craft of writing! I'll just break down my general process on how I approach writing below <3 Keep in mind that this is both (1) general advice, and (2) specific to how I approach pieces, so it might not work for everyone! In general, I have four major steps: planning, outlining, writing, and then revising/editing!
Planning
The first thing that really happens is that I'll come up with an idea. For fanfic, this usually means I'll get an idea for a scenario I want to explore, or I'll really want to write about a character, and then I'll come up with several ideas that I think would be fun for them! In this stage, I might write a few notes about the premise, just a few sentences about the overall plot/arc I'm looking at. Additionally, I might come up with some general themes/motifs I want to include, but go more in-depth with them in the outlining stage. I'm a bit strange in the sense I tend to plan stories based on general concepts/themes before I delve into the nitty-gritty of characters and plot details (though this process is a bit reversed when I'm writing fanfiction).
I might also do some general research in regards to the premise: for example, I might look over the wiki to refresh my memories on character beats or miscellaneous trivia, or I'll reread certain pages of the manga/rewatch scenes of the anime/replay parts of the game. If I'm writing about a different culture, then I'll look up aspects of the culture that are relevant to my fic (and as with any research, you want to check that you're using reputable sites for accurate information!) Asking friends for their advice/expertise can also be helpful, especially if they're knowledgeable in areas I'm not.
2. Outlining
After I have an idea, I tend to make a really rough outline for how I want the story to go. I don't like planning every minuscule detail, so I leave my outline vague enough that I can be flexible with what I write. I might just draft the overarching plot beats that I want to hit, but then I might change/rearrange scenes depending on what happens as I actually write. I like having an idea of what might happen, but also I don't want my plot to be so rigid I don't have any freedom to play with it, especially because what I write might end up differently from what I planned to happen!
Additionally, I also tend to map out not just what's happening on the page, but also the themes, character arcs and emotional beats. It's not as daunting as it sounds; these things are generally entwined together, as they influence each other! I'm always thinking of them in conjunction with every other piece of the story.
If that's a bit difficult, you can also think about a general mapping technique: tracking the inner, emotional journey and the outer, physical journey, and how these events influence each other or intersect. What shows up on the page, and what's happening beneath it, that might not be as obvious?
In chronologically disjointed pieces, I tend to have an idea of what the chronological timeline looks like before I break it up and rearrange the scenes. I don't believe there are real "rules" when it comes to writing (things like "don't use adverbs" or "first person should only ever be past tense"); any rule can be broken, but you do need to understand the rules before you know how/when to break them in your piece.
3. Writing
Here's the hardest part of the process: actually writing! I have several different ways I approach writing. Sometimes I'll just follow my outline, in order of the events and scenes I have planned. Other times, I might write "out of order" where I tackle a section that I'm particularly interested in, rather than going by order of events (though this usually means I have to edit and revise a lot because I might write the aftermath of a emotional scene before I actually know the specifics of what happens in the scene).
I think that I sometimes approach writing as something I "have to do." I will make myself write, even if I don't feel particularly motivated or inspired, because I want to build a habit of writing even without that passion fueling me. And besides, writing even a few sentences is better than writing nothing, so I'll congratulate myself if I had one paragraph to my wip. Sometimes, this does help me get into the flow of writing!
I also don't tend to approach first drafts like they need to be perfect. I'm fine if they're sloppy or messy, and I might, say, add a [add transition here] or [expand on his inner thoughts] if I'm on a roll and I don't want to slow down to write that particular bit. It's important to keep the momentum going!
I also keep several wips on hands at all times, and I have a folder in my google drive specifically for my wips. Though I do tend to focus only one to three projects at a time, this helps me in the sense that if I feel tired of one wip, then I refresh my creative batteries by working on a different one. This helps keeps my interest up!
4. Revising/Editing
I know some people skip this step, but to me, it's important that I don't just toss out a fic before I'm completely satisfied with it. Editing is when you go through to proofread and look at surface level things like grammar and spelling, but revising is the real struggle: it's where you look at the piece as a whole. Is it cohesive? Do the scenes make sense in the order they're placed in? How is the pace? Is the characterization consistent?
You can't be afraid to rearrange scenes, to cut sections, to add new ones, or to transform existing scenes. If I need to, sometimes I take a break before I go back to a piece. Maybe I've been looking at it for too long, and in the heat of the moment, I might miss certain things. I might also ask a friend for their feedback and advice on a piece. I want to write things that I'm proud of, that other people will enjoy, so I don't want to half-ass any step of the process. I try to look at most things at least two or three times before I post them, but if they're shorter pieces/don't need thorough revision, I'll only look at it once before I post.

I was tagged by the lovely @flownwrong ❤️ I don’t usually get tagged in anything, this is exciting!!
3 ships you like: Fraser/RayK, Roy Kent/Jamie Tartt, Garak/Bashir. This took some thinking since I’ve had Finnish fandom brainrot for such a long time.
First ship ever: I’m a classic girlie, it was Kirk/Spock. Still love them so much.
Last song you heard: I’ve had Jane Birkin by Mika on a bit of a repeat. It’s seriously enchanting.
Favorite childhood book: I don’t remember its name but it’s a picture book about toys that have been forgotten or abandoned and they’re living inside a hollowed out tree stump. I had some good times looking at the details in the cross section drawing.
Currently reading: Under the North Star by Väinö Linna, national book of Finland no. 2. Reread number six or seven I think?
Currently watching: Alternating between my millionth rewatch of Bob’s Burgers and Deadloch. Love Deadloch, it’s so refreshing.
Currently consuming: Garlic bread 😋
Currently craving: World peace? Wouldn’t say no to some lychee boba either.
@flownwrong tagged everyone I know already 😂 @kelkkamonologi I’m tagging ya but imagine I’m doing it from my suomitumppu 😁

🥑 you accidentally killed somebody, which mutual(s) do you text for help?
Hmm… first of all, you can’t prove anything 🤐 Second of all, I would probably contact @thelastsliceofcheese since I actually know her irl and she can help me hide the body and maybe even act as an alibi. And I believe @jennyfair7 once said that she was a lawyer(?) so I will need her help too.
🍬 post an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character
This is kind of about both Christine and Erik, but I think Christine could have become a great singer even without “the Angel of Music” as her teacher. In the Leroux novel, her voice was said to have sounded like “a rusty hinge” before she started receiving lessons from the mysterious voice. Does this mean Erik has some divine power over her voice and he gave her the talent to sing well, and that if she leaves him then all her musical talent will leave as well??
In my opinion, OF COURSE NOT. At the end of the day, Erik does NOT have superpowers and he’s just a normal guy being a normal music teacher giving her lessons in normal opera technique. The only way Erik improved Christine’s voice beyond a technical level was the *idea* that the Angel of Music was teaching her. Ideas and belief are so powerful: we need to believe we can do something in order to actually do it. Since Christine *believed* that she was being trained by a supernatural force, she made “supernatural” progress. If it is true that Christine was not able to sing as well after she leaves with Raoul in the end (I don’t think we know that for sure), then the only reason for that was because the events she lived through in the story were harrowing and emotionally traumatizing for her (which we DO know for sure). She still has the ability and technique to sing well, but her mental and emotional fortitude has been so damaged that she can no longer sing with the same passion behind it.
🦴 Is there a piece of media that inspires your writing?
The fanfic I’m writing now is heavily based on the interpretations of Erik and Christine from the 25th anniversary performance of the ALW musical. Whenever I’m having a hard time writing, I always rewatch it in order to get a refresher on their dynamic. Rereading parts of the original Leroux novel as well as other recordings of the musical help out a lot too!

thots on saito now he's back?
So Saitou has thots now...............
More seriously, I don't have a ton to say just yet since his reintegration into the cast is so fresh but I'm tentatively interested to see how things go. I really appreciate he wasn't just uncritically accepted back into the fold and that Miyako smashed his face in with a brick offscreen like she deserved so my bare minimum for vibing with this plot thread had been met and I'm excited to see where we go from here.
About Saitou as a character in general... I think I like him a lot more than I maybe should do? LOL
Not necessarily because he's an unpleasant or unlikable character (though I would totally get it if somebody was off on him) but because I think my fondness for him is pretty out of proportion to his actual role in the story. I've said this before but the Strawberry Pro family from volume one (Ai and the twins & Ichigo and Miyako) is my favourite dynamic in the manga so Saitou kind of inherits a lot of goodwill on the basis of being part of that group alone.
I am also, like any other gay person with taste, extremely weak to the trope of "guy accidentally becomes the dad of a troubled teen and doesn't even realise it" so Saitou and Ai's relationship was basically cooked up in a lab to make me so so so so so so so sad and soft. I also just think he and Ai have a really fun rapport when they're together and getting to revisit it is one of my favourite part of rereading or rewatching the prologue arc. Wanting to see more of that dynamic is one of the big reasons (apart from, you know, The Obvious) that I wish we'd get some kind of comfy happy end spinoff or an anthology or something.
I also really like what he does for the series commentary on the entertainment industry, however accidental or otherwise it was on Aka's part. I think when you're writing a story like OnK which is so strongly about commentary on abusive systems, it's very easy to make it onto a black and white issue where everyone involved is either an active perpetrator or a hapless victim - OnK is refreshing to me in that it's very honest about how many people there are in that fucked up system trying their best to just make good art and minimize any harm done in the process but end up perpetuating harm regardless.
Saitou is in this gray area for me where I think it's undeniable that he was complicit in exploiting and hurting Ai - at every step of the way, Ai was a Strawberry Productions commodity before she was his daughter and Saitou loved her even as he was feeding her to the idol industry meat grinder. But at the same time, B-Komachi gave Ai hope. It gave her opportunities and a goal to work towards and it got her out of a truly dogshit situation that she had no power to change without help, even before she was pregnant.
So it's like... yes, Saitou was complicit in Ai's suffering, but he was also one of the very few people in the industry who really, genuinely gave a shit about her. He's not blameless by any stretch, but it's hard for me to WANT to blame him especially since like... the dude lost his daughter!!! I think that's punishment enough, don't you?
Man, I had a lot more to say than expected lol. Thank u for the ask, anon, I hope this was interesting to read!

MONTHLY MEDIA: November 2023
Ooooooh it's getting cold and snowy out here in Ontario! Perfect weather to stay in, curl up, and read/watch/play something.
……….FILM……….
Tumblr media
Bottoms (2023) The heightened reality could've been made apparent a little sooner but other than that, no notes. Weird and fun in a way I haven't seen in a while. Big fan.
How The West Was Fun (1994) It took me about 1 hour and 10 minutes to get into this but it finishes strong. And so many great jackets! Ugh I love a good belt buckle.
……….TELEVISION……….
Tumblr media
The Crown (Episode 6.01 to 6.02) Okay this is my first dip into the series but having lived (just barely) through a lot of this, I feel like I got caught up fairly quickly. Really feels like the focus is on Diana instead of the Queen, yeah?
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Episode 1.01 to 1.06) Not what I was expecting and really refreshing for it! The animation varies wildly from episode to episode and I assume it's intentional buuuut sometimes it doesn't quite work for me. If I finish it and enjoy it enough to warrant a rewatch, I'll definitely try it with the Japanese dub.
……….YOUTUBE……….
Tumblr media
Mosa Lina by Caleb Gamman This looks like a fun game and, more importantly, the video is a thoughtful divergence into the topic of "genre". Gonna be thinking about the ideas in here for a while. VIDEO
This Woman Deconstructs 100-Year-Old Books To Restore Them | Obsessed | WIRED by WIRED I could watch book restoration all day and I hope this becomes an ongoing series or she starts her own channel. VIDEO
Tumblr media
7 Deadly Art Sins by CJ the X Vital watching for any creative type. Don't compare yourself to others (different from learning from others), don't hesitate starting that project you have in mind, and don't be afraid to create stuff you don't like cause it's an opportunity to reflect and grow and move towards making something you do like. Also promise me you won't call it content. VIDEO
Tumblr media
Chicago Doesn’t Own Its Own Streets | Climate Town by Climate Town If you ever hear a city councilor mention selling public infrastructure to a private company, send them this link or vote them out. VIDEO
……….READING……….
Tumblr media
A Few Fiends To Tea by Virginia Coffman (Complete) Picked this up secondhand for the cover (obviously) and the promise of a dying man using his remaining time to enact some vigilante justice on serial killers. Pulpy fun, right? Well it mostly reads like a mid century romance with a few interesting exchanges peppered throughout. Oh well.
Tumblr media
Silver Surfer by Slott & Allred Omnibus by Dan Slott and Michael Allred (Complete) This is what comics can be. Funny, sad, silly, and sincere, all while telling superhero stories that don't exclusively rely on punching to solve conflict. This reads like the best of Doctor Who and I love it all the more.
Delicious in Dungeon Volume 1 by Ryoko Kui (Complete) It seeeeeeeeems like the series is wrapping up so while I wait for the final volume's release I figured I'd start a reread. Knowing where it's going it's fun to see how established the setting and characters are right out of the gate. Just so great and I can't recommend it enough.
……….AUDIO……….
Tumblr media
Wag the Doug (Podcast) This is for a very specific audience (folks living in Ontario, Canada that are invested in provincial politics) but if you're a part of that demographic then it's a great way to loosely keep up with what's going on.
……….GAMING……….
Tumblr media
Oz: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) The Mof1 Crew is infiltrating a funeral where they know Princess Ozma will be attending. I think their plan is still stuff from the coat check but maybe they'll change course along the way. Never know what I'm going to get with this crew.
Wonderland: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) Got to run this quite a bit this month and testing is going well! Similar tone but very different sort of play from Oz and Neverland and I feel like that's a good thing.
And that’s it. See you in December!

WoT Fic Writing Update!
Current status of Voice*: I have an Interlude that I will be posting next week. The next main fic in the series is going to have 16 chapters and will have major book plot spoilers through A Crown of Swords. I am not entirely certain when I'm going to start posting it, but I think early December. I have a bit of writing done on most of the chapters, but I'm probably going to skim the books to refresh my memory on some things, plus doing a reread of Voice to keep my changes in mind.
(*since I do have some new followers: voice in the back of my head started as my 'put Mat in the polycule' fix-it story that bridges out of wot 1x6 but is essentially an AU for the entire book series now; there are currently 8 main fics in the series and several 'interludes' that focus in on a particular moment)
I also have two multi-chapter fics I've been working on recently.
1. show-verse Cauthor fic that is going to use my recent Rand/'Selene' mini-series as backstory. Looks like it will end up being 5 chapters, 2 of which are fully written and the remaining 3 are partially written. It will contain spoilers for most of s2 of the show.
2. the "Rand takes Ebou Dar" story (Cauthor & Matavirandlayne), fic idea suggested by @essie007 -- this is going to have 9 chapters, 4 of which are fully written, and another 2 are partially written.
I also have a post s2 one-shot that is basically just exploring the potential new group dynamics through the lens of Elayne. Not sure how long it'll be.
On the meta front, I'm planning on doing some metas on each character's journey this season and how that journey ties into the various themes that we've focused on:
We had a couple of main themes that touched pretty much everyone and then several subthemes that impacted a handful of characters each. I'm kinda planning to rewatch each 'storyline' on its own to examine how each theme is impacted so that would be:
Moiraine & Lan
Egwene & Nynaeve
Rand
Mat
Perrin
Ishamael & Lanfear
The themes I'm looking into exploring are:
control (both over yourself and the control others exert over you)
imprisonment & manipulation
isolation=vulnerability; togetherness=strength
betrayal
Every single one of the main plotlines featured elements from those themes, though some were more intense than others.
Some of the subthemes are:
fulfillment of prophecy (and how others try to manufacture it)
what being seen as "special" can mean and the effects it has
the monster within
I make no promises about how much of this I will get done. But I have rewatched the finale twice now and am itching to rewatch the season, lol.

Last song listened to: oops answered that above... take another one that i just think is cool
Last tv show/movie: i rewatched over the garden wall with my dad!
Spicy/sweet/savory?: i like all of them!!!!! but i am first and foremost a sweet tooth and if i don't consume sugar every day i will pass away
Currently reading: children of ruin by adrian tchaikovsky!!!!!!!!! rereading the series bc i got children of memory two christmases ago and i'm FINALLY getting around to reading that for the first time. but first i had to reread the first two books to refresh my memory. my favorite sci fi series for real everyone should read it!!!!!! i've recommended it to so many people. i won't spoil too much but the premise is an uplift experiment goes wrong, and the subjects (monkeys) perish while the vector for uplift (a "virus") makes it to the terraformed planet's surface; it is already seeded with life, set up for the monkeys' success. the virus finds itself compatible with something very.... non-monkeyish.... >:)!!!!!! (edited to add the FIRST book is called children of time lol start there)
Last thing I googled: phidippus audax i'm trying to sort out and find the appropriate references for its synonyms!!! salticus variegatus and attus audax and phiddipus variegatus grrrr soooo many names for one little guy!! and some of my sources are in german which doesn't help me, englishpilled monolingualcel. this is my first project in systematics ok be nice 🥺

I feel like I’m doing a patch notes/developer update hahaha
Staying Right Here update due to a few comments I’ve gotten about the Ch1 rewrite.
Okay, so there’s going to be a couple of small story hiccups while it’s in this in between state for the fixes. I put out the new chapter 1 just to make the beginning easier for any incoming readers (it’s been getting recc’d a lot lately and i realized I just didn’t like the first impression), then I’m going to drop the rest of the fixes all at once I believe?
A few things are structurally going to change due to the reworking of a few characters’ treatments
-iceburg and Paulie’s motivations are already differently established and subsequent scenes are going to be changed just slightly to accommodate the change of information. They’re getting a new scene in chapter 4, and adjusted portions of 5,6, and 7.
- Nami is going to have a slightly different relationship to Robin within the scheme of the secret boyfriend sleuth subplot, mostly because
- I’m changing Sanji’s entire position in the first half of the story. I did some soul searching. Talked to a few experts. When I first started the story I was early in watching WCI and I think that put some serious blinders on how I portrayed him (significantly too flattened). I rewatched Alabasta, Jaya, and EL to try and find the root I was missing and I think I know how to at least fix him somewhat. This is the majority of the chapter 3 and 4 rewrite
- also chapter 4, 6 and 8 I’m rewriting quite a lot of Luffy. I think my frustration with “what do I do with Luffy in the plot of this thing” overrode what can actually be a very fun character challenge. He needs to Transcend and I think I needed to finish the vague story in order to realize that.
-Robin is getting a massive fix in chapter 2 (that’s what I’m working on next!) but I won’t get into it too much.
All in all, the comments I’ve seen so far have said something along the lines of “I know it’s changed but I can’t tell what has changed” which is exactly what I wanted out of this refresh. I’m cleaning house, I’m addressing critique, and I’m considering the whole shape of the story now that I know it, but I’m not structurally changing any big beats. Hopefully this will help tie the first half of the story to the second. I very much consider what I wrote to be a very public first draft, so it makes total sense that there’s a lot I missed the mark on, but I’m so glad the core of what I was trying to express came through.
That’s all to say, don’t expect True Epilogue 3 for a few weeks (even though it’s been written). But once it’s out, maybe give the whole thing a reread.

Hi! I’m in love with your Gilmore Girls fics, and I was wondering if you could shed some insight into your writing process/how you write fics, such as the most recent one that was 100k+ in word count? Huge fan! Have a wonderful rest of your day!
Thank you so much! Glad to read how you enjoy them :)
Usually I’ll get an idea - either by coming up with one, one being suggested to me, etc. - and it’ll nag at me for a while, which typically involves pestering @marlahey with comments and questions and research until I inevitably realize I’m invested and need to write it out.
In the case with the Yale AU, I had a rough idea of how I wanted to start from the jump: Rory and Jess never meeting back in season 2, which helped with figuring out what that meant for the start of the story (Rory and Dean likely never break up without having Jess be a catalyst, how Jess while remaining in NYC managed to not only get through high school, but succeed enough to get a full ride to Yale). After that, and this is something I’ve done will all my AUs - Sense8, Cisgirl!Jess, Chilton, Yale - I’ll rewatch the seasons I need to in order to refresh my memory and also inspire me. Usually there's spite involved in some capacity, which I think is most evident in Yale AU in particular with changing Lane's trajectory.
I’ll form a sort of outline using canon events as a guide, write in order for a while until I inevitably skip ahead and write future scenes that I work to bridge them. Then it’s just about rereading, rewriting, and adding bits to flesh out the story.
Then I send to @marlahey and apologize for my grammar and also, over the last few years, for the word count I dump on her.

@chernychnyi tagged me, so thank you and kisses!
Three ships: not into anything like that rn!
Last song: have not listen to anything today, but I had Moonage Daydream by David Bowie open on my phone and Dirt by the Stooges in my browser
Last movie: a Home at the End of the world rewatch…. That movie is so badly made but I love it so incredibly much. I need someone to get extremely into it and watch it with me like this
Tumblr media
Currently reading: mostly I’m reading The Gates of Europe: A History of Ukraine by Serhii Plokhy! I wanted to get a refresher on Ukrainian history in forever, and this one is precise, neutral in tone and surprisingly engaging for a straight up history! That Plokhy guy is pretty great. And I’m also slowly moving through another reread of Giovanni’s Room since I’ve finally got myself a paperback of it.
Currently watching: does YouTube count? I’m watching this series by a guy called City Planner plays where he goes over his old City Skylines save and tries to fix all the problems and bad planning decisions. It’s very fun
Currently consuming: some roibus blend tea
Currently craving: some time with my dog ;( she just had puppies a couple days ago and I’m not even there to play grandpa awoooooooooo

9 People You Want to Get to Know Better (round 2)
Thank you for starting this, @palfriendpatine66, because otherwise I'm stuck doing my job :(
What song comes on and ALWAYS makes you think “Yes! That’s my jam!” I have a lot of jams. Most recently I probably said this about Don Henley's 'Dirty Laundry'.
If you could only reread one book/series forever what would it be?: If I could only read one book forever I would probably die. Um...probably either the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, or Discworld?
If you could only rewatch one show forever what would it be? M*A*S*H
Currently coping with Ao3 being down by? What I should be doing? Work. What I am doing? Pausing work every ten minutes or so to refresh Tumblr.
As usual, tagging anyone and everyone who sees this ;)

The Sunnydale Herald Newsletter, Thursday, May 26
Giles: Uh, well, it looks as if you, uh, were on to something. Buffy: I know. Giles: (walks around the bed) The, uh, the, the girl Tina, um, it's apparent that she, she died of the fever, (sits) simple enough, but, but her records show her improving and then suddenly deteriorating w-w-w-without any apparent cause. Willow: So we checked Dr. Backer out. This guy was *not* a solid citizen. Buffy: It wasn't Backer. He was clean. Cordelia: What do you mean 'clean'? Xander: What do you mean 'was'? Buffy: He's dead. This thing killed him, and not with kindness. (hands Giles the picture) Willow: You saw it? Buffy: No, it's invisible. I saw Backer nearly shredded and the thing knocked me down. But it's real. Which means I get to fight it.
