Finale Part 1 (6x19)
I can't believe this is the last time I'll be writing an episode critique for Supergirl, it feels surreal. But nonetheless I have thoughts and I will voice them. For once I am writing this while watching the full episode so I can do this chronologically for once, I already know what happens from watching clips on Youtube but there might've been scenes that weren't available so here ya go, one last ride:
- Lex is a great villain but I still hate that he's stuck around for so long, personally I would've liked his arc to have ended in season 4 as more of character to highlight Lena's character development. Instead of this Lex/Nyxly bullcrap they put on. I also hate that we have Nyxly as the main villain for the season and she's great but somehow they force Lex into her plot. Just wished they left Nyxly as the solo villain of the season
- You know ngl kinda wish they went through with letting Alex kill Lex with her bare hands lol.
- I get Alex and Kelly's mindset of doing whatever it takes to get Esme back obviously but in getting Esme back by giving up the Totems would've been pointless cuz the first thing Nyxly probably would've done with the All Stone would have been to kill them
- I do appreciate that Nyxly really doesn't have any intention to hurt Esme in any way. She just wants the totem and its unfortunately connected to Esme. Like the whole episode she's trying to make Esme as comfortable as possible and preventing Lex from hurting her, it was nice (yes I understand she kidnapped Esme but you know what I mean)
- I really don't understand why they introduced the Lex/Nyxly romance arc since according to what we've seen, everything that Lex stands for is opposite to what Nyxly stands for. It also shows that that Lex doesn't really know Nyxly at all considering he keeps proposing things that Nyxly would never do (eg. hurt an innocent child, trust any man who has hurt women). Also how far in the future is this Lex from?
- Like they say this Lex is from the future but did he live in the future? or is he our present day Lex who went to the future and saw his future self with Nyxly? And if he's from the future then where the fuck is present day Lex? Also they said he had 31st century tech which also doesn't make sense cuz that's 10 centuries from now so it's impossible for Lex to still be alive then. Nyxly might be cuz she's an imp but still, idek did I miss something?
- Seeing Lena and Andrea interact is always so interesting because they are essentially childhood friends. It's such a shame that they never fully utilised their relationship in the plots. It would've been so relevant with Lena finding out she has magic and Andrea also having magic, Andrea being isolated, making terrible decisions is like how Lena was in S5. They could've leaned on each other and rebuilt their friendship like we thought since that scene in 5x19. But all we got were like 2 bland phone calls and 2 pep talks from Lena to Andrea. Truly a waste of talent considering they had Julie and Katie playing the characters.
- I fricking love Lillian (as a character, she's a horrible person). Just her laugh at the prospect of Lex being in love is exactly how everyone else reacted when they revealed the plotline. Ah Lillian, how I love how you tower over your ego-maniac son.
- Hey Nyxly, babes how 'bout we not traumatise Esme further by telling her your dad was a mad man who tried to slit your throat as a child, huh? thank yew
- Man, Chyler in that armoury scene was great, just the pure emotion of it all makes me wish we had more scenes at this level of intensity.
- God, Brainy and Nia really have my fucking heart :')
- Lol the Three Fates just reminds of Charlie from LoT. I miss them
- Alex and Kara arguing just makes me mad cuz like yeah Alex, Kara's plan might not work but handing over the Totems will also likely be the cause of your deaths cuz Lex would kill you all without a second thought. No plan is a guarantee but seeing as how Lena could still use magic at the bridge, ya'll could've thought of a plan eventually. Also Alex telling Kara she would never forgive her if something happen to Esme is a little bit of a low blow
- Lillian and Nyxly meeting was sure... something. Also thank you Lillian again for emphasising that Lex is incapable of love which makes the whole plotline make absolute zero sense. I do love Lillian manipulating Nyxly so effortlessly, just one convo and she was able to mess her up lol. Really shows how good Lillian is at manipulation.
- I'm in by no means an expert here but pretty sure basically knocking out the sun for SIX MONTHS is NOT just a small drawback
- Lena once again seems to be the only person who is speaking reason and yet again is ignored. Do you hear her Kara? Do you? Yes you have to do something but this ain't it
- How much is Lex paying that man to still be his butler? Like, I get it you need a job but surely there are other rich, white men who need a butler who don't want to destroy the universe.
- Honestly I thought after the scene where Nyxly puts herself between Esme and Lex that her arc would end differently. I feel like at that point Nyxly could have returned Esme even without getting the Love Totem, because in that moment we saw that Nyxly is capable of caring for someone else. But who knows...
- Seeing Lex get "dumped" and read for filth was so satisfying
- Another thing, didn't they say that at the bridge all powers and tech wouldn't work but they still used tech and Nia had her powers??? Did I misunderstand something?
- It's honestly hilariously bad writing that they were fully ready to air strike Kara with the military but when Kara stopped using the sun and said sorry, they were just like 'oh okay, all good I guess, bye Supergirl'. Also how are they continuously evading any type of repercussions from the government? Like they've been causing so much chaos and property damage to the city the whole season, how are the Superfriends getting off scot free
- I know its supposed to be serious but I can't help but laugh a little at them basically playing hot potato with the All Stone. This fight was still better than the final fight in 6x20 though
- I really wish Lillian died saving Lena instead of Lex but its still in character for her to save any of her children tbh
- Love how they just never explain why Nyxly and Lex become lizard people after using the All Stone 🙃. Way to waste your money to CGI that, it was just unnecessary they served zero purpose
- But thank you SupergirlCW for Lena witness yet another parents death, let's just add that to the long list of trauma Lena already had. For fucks sake, Lena really had to witness both of her mothers' deaths huh. I know she's not dead yet but still
- Orlando's speech was great :)
Well that's the end of this episode. Personally I feel like this was what 6x18 should've been, a build up to the finale and not part of the 2-hour finale. It's not that bad of an episode if you overlook some obvious plotholes like the whole bridge thing. I initially wanted to write this for the entire 2-hour finale but this way too long already so I'm posting 6x20 separately. So that's all for this ep.
Goodbye, for now.

So 5x18...
...Well hot d*mn.
Man when Supergirl fires on all cylinders...HOO BOY.
Case in point: *gestures to all of 5x18*
To be clear: I liked this one.
A WHOLE LOT.
Not that I disliked 5x17, necessarily. It’s just that 5x18 was more... Entertaining? ...I dunno. I dunno how to explain it.
...Okay yes I do and that explanation is: Someone remarked on Kara’s use of language and Kara overcompensated on the ‘NOooOOooOO I’m totally 100% normal!’ AND there was a musical quote AND it was WHILE TEAMING UP WITH ALEX TO FOLLOW A LEAD.
But I’m getting ahead of myself let’s backtrack...
TO THE TOWER! WITH ALEX! NIA! KARA! AND M’GAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!
June Foray voice: WOULD YOU LIKE TO STAY FOREVER?!?!?!
I know I’m not the first person to make that reference but it’s always fitting and, for real, recurring character status WHEN. (I mean. Obviously I would prefer series regular but that feels like a big ask considering that all future TV production is...uh. Ah. Erm....
...Up in the air. At the moment.)
And then we check in with the Luthors and Non Nocere isn’t working???
Tumblr media
I am shocked! Shocked, I say!
And then we’ve got Obsidian doing something ill-advised which is basically the company’s MO at this point but KELLY AND WILLIAM ARE ON THE CASE REGARDLESS.
(So that’s kinda the one thing I’m sad about re: the Crisis reset; Andrea’s character development. But she’s sticking around for next season so I’m not too upset that she remains...kinda...one note for now.)
And THEN the library scene.
It was so gooooood.
Then Leviathan and okay. Alright. Okay. Huge points in this episode’s favor: Rama Khan feels like a far more significant threat. And I feel like 80% of that is the fact that they just let him wear normal clothes. Thank you, show. Thank. You.
Also the rock effects were way better in this episode because they weren’t footing the bill for a giant crossover episode this time around
I am a little confused, though, by what has and has not happened with regards to Rama Khan on Earth Prime. Did the pre-Crisis stuff...happen? The dialogue...kinda made it hard to decide one way or the other. ‘He hasn’t been seen on this Earth for 100s of years’ but then also, ‘a chilly place you know quite well.’ So...he...did go to the Fortress. And fight Kara? But...all that stuff before Crisis...???
...Not gonna bother with that right now.
POINT IS...Leviathan is finally like...invested in killing Supergirl* and menacing in a very real way which both raises the stakes and makes it personal and that’s way more interesting than ‘nebulous evil organization that must be stopped.’
*I know they kinda sorta already did the whole, ‘let’s kill the Kryptonian!’ and invaded the Fortress but I don’t know what to tell ya, it was just lackluster.
J’ONN AND M’GAAAAAANNNNN
I am firmly in camp: I don’t care if they’re never green again I love seeing them in the super suits with their human faces IT’S GREAT.
Love that Nia’s snoring interrupts the moment.
Also love the deck of Rama Khan playing cards, that must’ve been a fun project for the graphic designers.
Then we’ve got William and Kara at CatCo and it’s baked goods! A hilarious line delivery by Staz! A ridiculous fabrication involving a shy, violent cat!
...Now I want Alex to actually own a shy, violent cat!
“Cats love me, for some reason.” “Of course they do.”
Side note: Love Kara’s blazer.
And then it’s ALIEEEEEENS TO THE RESCUE!
WHAT A TEAM UP, FOLKS.
We love to see it.
The interrogation scene is good n’ tense and ramps up to a very impressive showdown in the DEO (but BEFORE the sparks really start flying we get that rad shot of Kara leaping through the window and doing the superhero landing and it’s just
Tumblr media
Perfection.)
Also perfect? Lex playing a game of transmatter pickle with the prisoners.
Then we jump back to the DEO where things are not going well!
Like, really really bad!
But J’onn and M’gann save the day! If not the building!
RIP DEO. 2016-2020
Obituary: The DEO headquarters is survived by its elder sibling, the DEO desert base.
Look none of the favs work there anymore save for Kara and Brainy and they’re both gonna be better off working freelance for J’onn but I do expect Brainy to at least pick up some additional cash by working as a Lyft driver next season.
Me, watching the characters struggle to make it in the gig economy: I feel so seen.
The final portion of the episode is just ALL ACTING and I must say...good stuff.
Like. This cast, man. They take the plot points I’ve been ‘meh’ about all season and they turn in some stellar performances and suddenly I’m like STANDING OVATION, CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHERE THIS GOES.
Also, reason #342 I love Jon Cryer’s Lex: that scene with Lena.
Terrifying.
Full disclosure: I went in to this episode fully prepared to be really annoyed with whatever was going to happen with Lena and I still don’t...love the trajectory of this season, being so tied up in her personal drama but.
But.
Katie McGrath’s performance...went an awful long way here. In making this...not as bad as it could have been.
Like tearfully admitting she was hurt? And that hurt was the basis of all the nonsense she pulled? Finally owning up to the fact that this was never truly about the greater good but that it was all rooted in some personal issues and OUTRIGHT STATING SHE WAS BEHAVING LIKE A VILLAIN????
I am. Extremely impressed.
EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE THOUGH: Kara remaining distant both physically and emotionally throughout that scene! Not in like, a cold uncaring way, but in a, ‘I have emotions and I have a right to feel them and set boundaries in regards to my trusting you right now given all that has transpired’ kind of way.
GOOD. YES. GOOD.
(Lex’s outburst has that kind of same Nice Guy undertone--albeit more pronounced and rage-y--as Lena’s in the Fortress. Like, ‘I supported you and you still rejected my plot to take over the world’ and ‘I was kind to you and you still messed up my mind control’ which...I dunno I might just be digging in too deep here in order to further justify the character turn but I think Cryer’s performance regardless is a really sobering wake up call for Lena, different than Lex stuff we’ve seen before. It’s close and intense and uncomfortable in a way that really sells the motivation.)
“You’re a monster...but that doesn’t mean I have to be one too.”
Wow. Might be...the first time I’ve liked Lena all season.
...whispers: might be the first time I’ve liked her ever at all
For real: credit where it’s due, that was an excellent line read.
*insert applause here*
CUT TO ADORABLE J’ONN AND M’GANN MOMENT
D’aaaawwwwwwwwww
But, look, it’s a little undermined by the fact that they both gotta try and embrace in those bulky super suits, I’m sorry, it’s true
...Maybe it’s more endearing that way?
HEY remember how I foolishly assumed that the now-unemployed Alex would simply continue to work with J’onn in an investigative capacity and, ya know, NOT jump straight back into costumed badassery?
HA. HAHA HAHAAAA.
Those leaked set photos make sense now.
OH NO, WILLIAM!
Real glad Staz confirmed he’s returning. Otherwise I would not be able to DEAL WITH THE STRESS.
I already talked a little bit about the loft scene but some additional points! Beautiful lighting. Wonderful score. Excellent performances all around.
A truly great end to a truly great episode.
Like, it makes me retroactively sad, that we’re only getting 5x19, as opposed to 5x19 and 5x20 because I wish that the crew/writers/actors had a little more space to let all of this good work they’ve done settle and breathe.
(But also, it was good that they stopped production, from a safety standpoint, so. Can’t be too upset.)
And, regardless of how the next episode goes down (b/c I’m gonna be real, SG always does really great set-ups for their season finales and then kinda...rushes to the finish line and that can only be further exacerbated in this particular case) I’m just really impressed with this effort here.
...but also LET’S TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE SOME WILD GUESSES. Specifically, what is Alex’s vigilante name gonna be???
...
Alright I generally try to avoid addressing specific fandom complaints in these things b/c I generally try to avoid the fandom itself but of course some stuff has already leaked through all of my blocks/muting so:
‘Lena didn’t apologize!’ The words ‘I’m sorry’ were not said, sure, but 1.) season’s not over and 2.) for Lena, admitting she was wrong is huge. HUUUUUUUGE. It’s solid character growth and I really wish various subsets of fandom would recognize that it’s not fun, when fans hold on to negative stuff from characters’ past and refuse to acknowledge that the characters have changed.
‘Brainy should have seen this coming!’ This one is kind of more down to personal preference I guess but I feel like they’ve established that Brainy’s got a bit of a blindspot due to his feelings about his friends, so I don’t take this as a knock against his intelligence so much as him being stretched fairly thin because he’s playing all sides, and worried about the people he loves. YMMV, though.
All the ‘fix-it’ stuff re: the last scene, by making Kara immediately forgive Lena. Lose me with that nonsense, bleh.

S421 – Keep Me in Your Memory
I usually start with general thoughts but because this is a mainly Brainy blog –
1.       On one hand – oh my poor Querl that looked painful ;-; 2.       On the other hand – HAHAHAHAHA MWAHAHAHAH YESS BRAINY YESSSSS. The boxes are open! WOOOOOO. GET IT! 3.       Jesse Rath, I love you. You’ve got so much talent, thanks again for playing my no.1 favourite superhero. You’re the actor my fave deserves.
Aight, anyway.
General thoughts:
Daaaaaaaaaamn so Lex really got things done while Kara was knocked out, like oof. Not wasting anytime there. Truly the supervillain we know him as. Well done.
Lockwood as Brainy was amazing, great job Witwer.
Elizaaaaa!!! I was glad to see her again. As I have said before, best mum.
Kara & Family Storyline:
THE SMALL DANVERS SISTERS. I loved it. The whole *clap clap* thing is such a thing that I would do with my siblings and I just – YES ahhh.
Her convo with Papa J’onn like ALKSJDLAKSJD my heart. My poor heart.
She was so scared for the family, and she so wanted to tell Alex ;-;
Her hurt looks again when she was talking to Alex when Alex was talking about her sister to Supergirl cri
Alex remembering everything was woowwww. Especially when Eliza came up too
‘Take the grass’ – okay like I understand that this was sad and a desperate pleading but I also kinda laughed whoops. Probs cause we knew Kara was going to die but anyway. (Reminds me of KH’s ‘but who will I eat my ice cream with?’ if anyone plays KH lol).
I also didn’t really like how she actually managed to absorb the grass and I know one of the writers says it’s a Dark Knight Returns reference but like…it was a bit silly for the show imo but whatever, it’s only a minor thing lol
BUT THE HUG AFTERWARDS BLESSED.
DANVERS SISTERS BACK IN ACTION HECKA YEAH.
Anyway, I did enjoy the mindwipe storyline and I think it was a good ending to it.
Kara & Red Daughter
Ooooh their convos with each other were very good
Although wow I didn’t realise Red Daughter had been following Kara that much.
I love how Kara still tries to appeal to Red Daughter and tried to reach her feelings.
And they brought back up Mikael….I might be spelling that wrong but you know who I meant
Their fight was alright, though I suppose it was more about the back and forth dialogue and the emotions, rather than the action.
 Those lightning powers were uh…odd.
Still, seeing Red Daughter unconscious (if not dead) at the end was a ‘woah’ moment for me. I doubt she’s already gone but I can’t wait to see next episode what Lex really did…
Lena, Lillian, Lockwood ft. James
Baby truth seeker aw. Not that it was cute but like idk the name of it sounds cute.
That ‘I love you’ from Lillian though like OUCHHHHHH
 Lena’s face, man
But also Lena telling her mum to drink the antidote, even more wow
  Power move
Lockwood was so shocked that he was used by Lex pfft
Even Otis was like ‘lol, dummy’
But woah Lockwood took him out
Hm…I’m guessing James is going to go head to head against Lockwood again. And then his powers will go.
Brainy, J’onn & Nia
Firstly, I’m glad that we get to see the dreams come back into play again. With what’s been happening with Nia’s powers I was thinking that the writers forgot her powers were supposed to be…ya know…dreaming…because…’Dreamer’.
J’onn transforming into Eve was good, I like when they use his shapeshifting for things like this, it’s always great.
I would have thought that he would have already watched Star Wars…by now strange…
Anyway, back to the moment I wanted to talk about ofc..
 ALIGNED!BRAINY…..OHOHOHOHO.
So we know that this is still Brainy, because he says ‘you’ve aligned ‘me’ with my more emotionless ancestors’. And he still knows what the plan is, to rescue the other aliens (eventually) so this is not him being ‘evil’, but just ‘darker’.
‘and that was a calamitous mistake’ is such a chilling line like wow. WOWOW. Well done. Just OOOOOOOOH boy.
His fight sequence was amazing too….ahh he’s so good.
Also, I believe that he shot at the people and while he may have hit them (???), it doesn’t seem like he had actually killed anyone. I feel if he had, J’onn might have mentioned it…Though I could be wrong, but we might find out later
I like how Brainy says that ‘he’s more focused’ because he’s had the ability to remotely access/hack networks but he wasn’t in the mindspace to do so until now.
But oooof he was stone cold to Nia
I would be pretty freaked out if I was her. I do wonder if she did realise whether something was wrong
J’onn definitely realised after Brainy TOOK HIM DOWN.
Hoho I really hope this Brainy sticks around for longer than the finale…At least one or two episodes into Season 5, please. We shall see tomorrow, I guess…

I so want to write this fanfic but ahh it would be so long!!!
Oh boy this turned out longer then expected sorry for your dashes but my sister thought it was worth the read!
So the new “villian” of the year shows up out of no where saving supergirl and gives the DEO lists of Cadmus facilities that are still working. They don’t get a hit in any facial recognition for an identity. When those Cadmus facilities get shut down of course Lillian would use her connections to escape prison (again) and attempt to save her life’s work.
Now with that obviously more kryptonite would be involved resulting in Supergirl getting hurt more often and getting weaker. The new hero is dubbed as the shadow since she never talks to anyone or sticks around for the interview photo op and generally sticks to the shadows (wears all black).
Kara has stated numerous times there is somthing weird about the shadow but she can’t place it. That’s when a partial file was sent to the DEO anonymously all about the shadow. It’s basically found out she was created by Lillian to be stronger then any Kryptonian and be able to kill one.
With that the DEO (mainly Alex) flips out and wants her captured so she can’t hurt her sister. They soon realize nothing seems to be able to contain her. Kryptonite seems to peirce her skin but not debilitate her as it would Kara or Kal-El. Even though the DEO is trying to caputure her the shadow just keeps on showing up to help supergirl often times flying her back to the DEO when she’s to weak but leaving without a word.
Kara and Alex work together to try and figure out what her deal is and why she doesn’t just attempt to kill Kara. Lena tried to help and hack Cadmus for the rest of the file hoping to find a weakness when....
Supergirl gets stabbed right in the gut by a kryptonite claw. Alex gets terrified at the sight of her sister dropping to the ground but is quickly reminded of her own fight with a human armed with alien tech.
Lena is monitoring the girl of steel back at the DEO since she was wearing the special suit but she notices somthing odd. Usually and understandably when anyone is stabbed let alone Supergirl by kryptonite their vitals skyrocket. High heart rain, blood pressure is unstable and all of that kinda stuff. Instead though her vitals start to steady.
The Luthor looks at the footage of an agents helmet cam and sees the shadow putting pressure on the wound, kryptonite blade long gone along with the suits helmet. She was expecting to see her injecting supergirl with somthing but the shadow was just putting pressure on the wound with a gloved hand around supergirl neck shaking her head when the blue eyes flutter shut.
Alex was amazed by the footage when she saw it later how her sister just stared into the eyes of the enemy and seemed at peace. When Kara later woke up healed and cleared to leave Alex asked her about it but the blonde simply says she must have been delirious or something. Alex knew she was lying but didn’t push.
When Lena finally managed to obtain the other half of the file she was shocked. Immediately she went to the DEO with it but both supergirl and Alex were missing.
Lillian managed to capture Alex and convinced Kara to come willingly using Alex as leverage. During their capture Lillian taunted them before finally handing over the whole file.
Alex read it first and was shocked it took her a full minute to wrap her brain around it. Turns out the two parent cells Lillian used were Alura’s which she nabbed from lex when he had managed to obtain a sample of Kryptonian DNA that was stored in the fortress of solitude. And the other Jeremiah Danvers.
The perfect blend of Danvers and El blood, a sister to both Kara and Alex. It’s why Jeremiah stayed with them for so long no even attempting to escape. Sure in the process her protected Kara and Alex but he didn’t want to just abandon this new baby allowing her to grow up a weapon.
Thanks to the odd combination of DNA she aged faster until hitting puberty and was physically 26 years of age. Jeremiah made sure to raise her, helped her seperate the good and bad, helped her be her person.
When she was old enough he made her a suit and helped her escape while he stayed behind to cover for her. He taught her all about Kara and Alex, how close they had become in his absence, unintentionally he had made the third sister scared to confront her family.
She was terrified they would reject her, that there would be no room for her, their bond as sisters too fortified to let anyone else in. She planned on leaving national city, leaving everything behind but she couldn’t.
She couldn’t for the same reason Kara’s vitals stabilized dispite almost dying. Kryptonian familial recognition. She saw supergirl get hurt and had to go save her, she had to. So she stuck around keeping in the shadows of the Danvers lives making sure they were safe.
When the shadow eventually comes to rescue them after mentally prepping herself for returning to the place she was held and experimented on for the duration of her life she gets Jeremiah out of there too.
They hold off going to the DEO for a little while deciding the four of them needed to talk. So they sat in Kara’s apartment, the suits they all wore looking like Halloween costumes.
The shadow turned off the image inducer she made making sure no one would recognize her and the sisters were shocked at seeing Jeremiah engulf her in a hug. The reality still not fully cemented in their minds yet.
Jeremiah explains everything to them and the shadow (insert whatever name ya like for her) to which Kara scoffs at saying they would never turn her away. Alex seemed skeptical but going back to the whole familiar recognition Kara gets close with her very quickly making Alex warm up as well.
It would really be a full Danvers sister season with Alex being protective over kara after seeing Lillian created yet another thing to kill her. While also digging deep into their hearts to find room for more family seeing as they have been so used to being there for each other and now they have a sister who was mentally a physically abused/tortured/manipulated for most of her life (Jeremiah could only do so much).
Now the season finally could be all about how the three of them are all trying their best becoming the best of buds when Cadmus rises again more deadly then ever. It eventually ends with the shadow sacrificing herself to Lillian at her request to save Kara from dying. Kara begs her not to but she does anyway.
Kara only finds out later that Lillian nabbed Alex too and season 6 could be how supergirl gets really determined to save her sisters. She has to battle the new director of the DEO on everything so she quits and joins up with Lena to get the job done (maybe throwing in a little supergirl dabbling in the dark side in her determination while Lena keeps her on the right path as a twist).
Meanwhile in Cadmus Jeremiah is doing his best (cause Lillian will never admit but she needs him and if holding his daughters over his head and dealing she will take his smarts) to make sure Alex and shadow are alive and well (again his best!). Lillian just got Alex as a sort of bargaining tool, I mean Kara would do anything for her, the government what to save her and she’s smart like her father.
Alex endures all of the torture thrown her way refusing to help Lillian in any way all while Lillian is brain washing the shadow (I imagined it kinda like a cross between Bucky form marvel and how maxwell lord created bizarro) by making her follow any orders and planting a seed of hate for supergirl.
When she’s satisfied with the progress Lillian gives her a finally come and as the shadow begs her not to knowing it would be “kill supergirl”. Lillian then releases her and the shdow has to fight herself as she bolts to the DEO managing to get to a safe spot before collapsing as her mind battles itself.
Kara the ever worried sister finds out she is there and goes after her. Finds her crying and immediately try’s to comfort her meaning cuddling her on the stairs of the DEO with Kara being the affectionate person she is.
That doesn’t help with shadows mental state and she has to fight her heat vison as she screams at Kara to take the suit off. Lillian told her to kill supergirl not Kara.
The rest of the season can be all about Alex following in her fathers footsteps keeping her sisters safe but not repeating his mistakes. No Alex is determined to get out of Cadmus in time to save her sisters, in time to save herself.
Kara tries to help the shadow but is ultimately making it hard on her so kara turns to the only person she has (could make a good supergirl reveal) Lena who helps the shadow with some smart techy Lena invention.
Now this part is completely optional and is totally for whatever you ship in the show!!!!
For Lena x James
I mean that could make or break them the whole her and supergirl doing questionable morality trying to save Alex and shadow. Either it ends them or he decides to help and it fixes all the problems they have been having.
For Kara x Lena
Now personally I think if supercorp (as much as I love them) were to ever happen it would be out of obligation and not feel very genuine (in the writing at least I think Katie and Melissa could pull it off on screen but scripts can fail even the best of chemistry). However I think this would create a very real and emotional getting together for them. Kara going on an emotional rollercoaster with her sisters being kidnapped while Lena holds her hand and helps her. Then when she can’t help her sister and makes it worse she breaks down and Lena is the shoulder for her to cry on. Kara could realize that her support was taken away and Lena was there for her (she always has and Kara knows that but this would be like her eye opening I actually love you moment). Lena also realizes it after seeing her best friend hurting so much.
I mean seems more realistic then them one day just going eh I guess I love you.
Anyway that was really long if you made it through let me know what you think.

Winn Schott - He Protects the Stars Masterpost, [P1 S2 E1-11]
Being a ramble of thoughts concerning one Winn Schott Jr., the tech genius and undervalued hero, with much appreciation for his character and reminders of how much they all need him.
Missed Season one? See S1 episodes 1-10 and episodes 11-20.
Tumblr media
Without further ado, episodes are under the cut.
2x01, The Adventures of Supergirl
A decent Winnisode by all accounts
It was pointed out to me that Winn is always the one to pass Kara her drink when they’re out in a group. #idon’trecallmyhashtags. #supportive friend #priorities whatever
Winn chiming in on the “to family” toast, because this is his family. #space fam
Friendly reminder that Winn learned Kryptonian because he “got bored.” and that Alex requested his help at the DEO. #genius
“Find out something that my team of highly trained alien experts can’t.” “Challenge accepted.” AND HE DID. #genius
Aside: he promises to figure this out. To Kara. Because she is important to him.
Fanboying over Superman. I don’t have anything intelligent to add over this. Just watch the smol son freak out, it’s beautiful. #protect him
Winn handy translator helped him read the alien pod’s computer and discover the craft’s trajectory, giving them important info on their guest.
“You look Fantastic.”
Is the one who pays attention enough to find out where the explosion originated, that it was directly under a seat, and to realize that seat had significance: it belonged to Lena. This allows Kara and Clark to rush to Lena’s aid, who they thought was a suspect, not a victim, and they arrive just in time to save her life, and thereby contact the villain and find out his plans and save other lives. #hero
the murdery drone reminding him of his dad’s work. Look at our boy casually tossing around what was held as his deepest, darkest secret; making sure his friends don’t see him any differently now that they know. He’s come a long way.
-and immediate concern for Kara. Always. #supportive friend #priorities “always” should become another hashtag here.
Kara immediately asks specifically for Winn’s aid the minute they’re in trouble. And he delivers. #always
One minute Alex asks J’onn to let Winn help on a tiny bit of decoding, and suddenly Winn is in the thick of things, like he saw stuff going down and just grabbed a computer. #hero
Already making Space Dad smile by his antics. Space Dad needs this tbh.
Welcome to the DEO, Winn. You deserve this.
2x02, The Last Children of Mars
Open with sass: “Grumpy”
Quoting Yoda, the second Star Wars reference in as many episodes. Also, aside, it is obvious that Star Wars is Winn’s favorite fandom, it has the most nods and references from our boy of any he mentions. #nerd
“Hey, new kid, go get the alien tech from storage. Ya know, the stuff that almost made everything really bad for us last time. And see if you can improve upon it.” Winn isn’t there more than a day and J’onn already relies on him an incredible amount. Might be a test, might just be resourceful with his assets.
Entrusted with making Superman (and Kara) a specialized suit.
Our favorite non-super hero is loving this DEO tech, locating the Prometheum in seconds.
Those suits aren’t ready because the former IT guy is obviously preoccupied doing... everything else tech wise at the DEO. #give him a break
Winn and science and his big sis, Alex. #nerds #brotp
“Think with less stabbing.” Good advice.
Here’s a bit of backstory: Winn grew up in foster care after his dad was jailed and his mother took off. And they are not happy memories, probably especially because he’s the child of a crazy murderer. But what he’s taken away from that is beautiful. Family is about showing up. Probably this is why he always shows up for his friends, his family. He understands the importance of that.
CANNOT TELL A LIE TO SAVE HIS LIFE
Does anyone else require much, much more of Winn being a nerd with Clark? Give the boy some quality friendship time please.
Also: the slightly ironic swell of the soundtrack as the camera pans around Winn to reveal his emotional expression. It’s earned though: Winn is a hero.
“Thank you, Winn.” Clark is one of a small handful of people on a small handful of occasions to show appreciation for Winn or his efforts. Even though the quickly assembled armor was not ready to withstand the attack, it was helpful, and Clark appreciates it here. Bless.
He’s happy to see Space Dad and Clark finally getting along, and sad to see Superman leave. Also, that hug. Winn is very much a hugging person, and it’s a great bit.
“Next time.” Let there be a next time, yes? Yes.
2x03, Welcome to Earth
Look at that flame-retardant cape helping Kara save the president's life tracking Mon-el.
Just kind of, left on his own while everyone else squees over the president?? Winn honey, I know that in the past episode and a half you have become the single person who gets asked to do everything at the DEO but take a break for a minute
Finds Mon-el. Bravo.
Look at the other, older, more experienced DEO agents behind him, literally just staring in awe and confusion as he works. #genius
Somehow not only finds the signal Mon-el sends, but also tracks down its origin to a dead planet whose existence and name hardly anyone even knows about.
I feel the need to point out here, with Kara's reference to a Kryptonian slur for the Daxamites and her farewell to Clark in the previous episode, that Winn's ignorance of their meaning does not mean he doesn't actually know Kryptonian. Languages are hard and complex things, and Winn probably learned everything he knows from texts, not from oral teaching. A deeply personal phrase like the one Kara uses for Clark, which they say has no easy English translation, and a random curse, are not likely to have been in his vocabulary - but for what it's worth, they are now.
Pretty low on the Winncontent otherwise.
2x04, Survivors
Disappointed Earth doesn't have dragon soccer. Me too, Winn. Me too.
"awesome" and "amazing" are Winn's favorite terms, in case no one has noticed. #give the guy a thesaurus
Hold the phone. Casual mention of "shall I get a strike team to gear up?" after he identifies and locates an alien assailant??? The man has been at the DEO for what, a few days, maybe a week? And he has the authority to call up a strike team for Alex?? I'm not complaining, but, just how tight a ship is J’onn running here?
Just assumes Mon-el is going to use his newfound power for good, to be a hero, because whether it's with his friends, or even with his dad, or with Siobhan, Winn has a steady history of looking for the best in people.
I've been asked to point out the times Winn gets manipulated into things, and here's a good one: Mon-el promising Winn he can make his supersuit and name him, if he'll just let Mon-el do what he wants. Should Winn have listened? No. But he, too, has been cooped up at the DEO for a fair bit and temptation is too strong here. Thanks, Mon-el, for setting up how this relationship is going to work.
Drunk Winn. Oh dear.
Again, Winn cannot keep secrets or tell lies. He's hopeless.
This whole follow-up scene at the DEO is golden. All of it. I love him.
Winn traced J’onn’s phone. No big deal for him, but he did that.
To be fair, Mon-el at least puts in a good word for Winn, admitting he baited him into the whole thing.
Winn and Alex being concerned for Space Dad is an ongoing trope. I love Space Dad and his kids. #space fam
2x05, Crossfire **Winnisode**
Winnisode is how I’m officially labeling episodes with a fair amount of Winn
"Any of these [guns] look familiar?" is in the weary tones of someone who has asked this question multiple times in the past hour.
Displaying, again, concern over what could have happened to Kara in this most recent fight. #always
"I was into Kara." An important line. I don't think this is completely honest, but he's also not good at lying so who knows. In any case, his friendship with Kara is still important to him, and that's good.
Winn never should have let Mon-el watch television.
Playing with a toy gun, are we? After the incident at the toy convention and everything else?? Hmmm. I choose to read this as our irrepressible hero bouncing back, and maybe intentionally moving past fears, maybe because he thinks being an agent in the field would be cool.
Repeatedly going over the Cadmus broadcast, looking for clues. Detail-oriented.
Another instance of Winn being manipulated? Here we go. James here, showing up to "check in" on his friend, when instead all he wants is to trick Winn into giving him info so he can go be a haphazard vigilante. The second he has what he needs, not two minutes into their conversation, he just leaves. He wasn't there to see Winn at all.
This entire scene where Winn confronts James is golden. James is completely valid wanting to do important and worthy things and feeling out of place, but Winn is making total sense. James will get himself killed on this. He isn't a superpowered human, he isn't bulletproof. Winn obviously already worries about his other best friend getting herself hurt, now he's trying to protect his second friend.
“To fight with knowledge - there is no shame in that.” #hero
"Or you can end up just like him" is harsh. However, coming from the guy who is terrified that his own interests and skills will make him turn out like his father? He's not wrong.
Winn trying to remind James that you don't have to don a suit and punch people to be a hero.
Helping Kara implement her plan. Complete dork bumping into Lena. And still trying to protect James, whose actions in this scene, do not help btw. #supportive friend
Saving the day with his new Science Friend, Lena. #more of this please
"We stopped it!" #hero #sunshine child
1) acknowledging James' side of things, and 2) "I would feel kinda bad if you went and got yourself killed and I could have helped you, blablabla." You watch this scene and tell me which one is the more relevant reason for his decision. “Do not run into the line of fire until [the suit] is ready.” Winn will always want to be there to protect the people he cares about when he knows he can help them.
Also just a little bit excited to be a hero, who can blame him.
2x06, Changing **Winnisode**
(not as much screentime, but some solid moments)
Calling the agents to arms (is that also his job on top of everything else? what exactly is in his job description anyway??)
Distracted by Drunk Kara, a new thing. And you can't convince me of "was" into Kara when here he immediately deflates into saltiness about Mon-el partying with Kara.
Alex and J'onn just... leaving Kara for a bemused Winn to take care of lol.
Winn analyzed the laptops. All of them. Literally what are the other agents doing when they are at work?
Identifies and names the alien parasite. #genius #nerd
Another manipulative scene with James, and I was so angry with James here: He has absolutely zero right to demand things of Winn. They're both upset, worried about Kara, but that doesn't make his angry demands warranted. And he realizes he's gone too far, but it's too late. I think they both very much needed this conversation. But Winn is not yours to use, James, and he's doing this completely for you, so back off sir.
Aside: I will never not have feels over the way Winn immediately checks himself when he gets angry here. He confessed to Kara that whenever he gets angry, he wonders if he'll snap and do something terrible. So he doesn't let himself get angry. #protect him
"I'm better at this kind of stuff than anyone you will ever meet." It's nice to see Winn not selling himself short. Is it a little grandiose of a claim? I dunno, so far, he hasn't been wrong.
"Your IT Prophet has a lead." oh Winn. XD
Left to look after the two people who have come to be his family.
While I wish Winn had found a way to convince James not to do this, I appreciate the solemnity he handles the moment with. Yes, James, you need to be sure.
Friendly reminder Winn makes all of Guardian's arsenal. That bomb that just saved Mon-el? His. That shield? This boy is good.
Excited to see Kara. Sorry James, your Man in the Van will #always have a favorite super.
Designed James’ suit so that Kara specifically couldn't discover that it's James.
Feels wrong keeping the secret from Kara. Yes, good.
He hoped that James would take a shot at the hero thing and realize his mistake and be done. But that's not the case, so he'll continue to support James and enjoy being a hero along the way. #supportive friend
2x07, The Darkest Place **Winnisode**
Honestly, S2 holds a promising amount of content for Agent Schott, or at least it does when you know you might get scraps.
Winn Is Not Subtle.
“Three versus one.” Try three versus two, James. Don’t forget about your partner. Partner, not sidekick.
"in every situation Guardian seems to be one step ahead" that is one hecking good "sidekick" Alex
Nice grappling device, Winn *cough* I mean, Guardian.
#highpitched panic
Terrified of going to jail? Gee, I wonder how much thought he's put into that scenario...
Fantasy football: something James is into and invited Winn to get into as well, but not really Winn's thing - something he would do for an excuse to hang out with his friend? Yes.
Alex. Those eyes. He doesn't stand a chance.
That jump.
Offended by her slap. Such a little brother to Alex's big sister. #brotp
Too worried about the James/Guardian situation to be worried for Kara for once, having no idea she could be in danger. He does know she can take care of himself, honestly he probably shouldn't worry as much as he does, but this time it would still be warranted.
“Genius takes time.”
Winn figuring out things no one stopped to think on: noticing the one guy the vigilante let get away and wondering if there was significance to it, following through, making connections, digging up exactly who they need to look into. Call yourself genius anytime, sir, because at least it's not an empty boast.
James trusting Winn's direction when they're in the field. He needs Winn like the rest of them do. Can you imagine Guardian without his man in the van watching his back? (Spoiler, when Winn gets distracted, James ends up with a bullet graze.)
A little offended on Kara's behalf with the whole "hitched" conversation with Mon-el, but mostly amused
Kid in a candy store when his bff uses her powers.
2x08, Medusa
"Casually drop" the revelation about Guardian. Winn, dear, you can't casually drop anything.
"Eliiiiiiza's glazed carroooooots??!"
Okay, but petition Winn gets like... one, just one happy normal safe Thanksgiving someday?
Shoves James forward to make his confession. Pulls him back down when the timing is obviously not right.
Mon-el gives his speech, very similar to the one Winn tried to give last year, and Winn just...sort of freezes... and then just downs his wine. Poor dude.
"One slightly less intense than last year's Thanksgiving." SEE WHAT I MEAN Warring families are definitely worse than ripping holes in space, I agree.
Listen to Kara or do the smart thing? Or try your best to do both?
-Not Winn related, but I just have to point out in the Monopoly scene you can see one of the crew got careless with those glass doors and you can see their feet as Kara goes in to help Mon-el.
Watch Winn's face when Cadmus declares "every alien will die." You can tell his heart just dropped. His bff? The boss who will also become probably his healthiest relationship? Hundreds of innocents? He can't take it.
Calls the strike team anyway, because he would rather take action (and listen to Kara) than err on inaction.
At the end, he was totally going in for a hug there with Space Dad. Just saying. #space fam
Lastly. We were so close, sooooooo close to a Winn and Cisco meet. *sigh*
2x09, Supergirl Lives
I have a love/hate relationship with this episode, but Winn is amazing.
Quick thinking Winn, clothes-lining the baddie with the van door. Bravo. #hero
I can’t watch this scene. 10/10 cannot handle.
THE NEXT PERSON TO POINT A GUN AT THE PRECIOUS SUNSHINE CHILD-
“Winn, you okay?” No James. He isn’t. But thanks because this may be the last time anyone asks.
James had free time so he went home and wrote a fluff opinion piece on himself?? While his best buddy is in need of medical care and a friend. *sigh*
Can we talk about how Winn, regardless of keeping Guardian a secret, chooses to try and cover up his injury rather than seeking sympathy with his “mugging” story? #too pure #a good #protect him
“The future is very bright.”
.2 seconds of concern for Winn being the victim of an armed mugging is over, now we switch to finding out why Alex looks so dang chipper.
I’m sorry James. Not everyone gets a gun pulled on them. That doesn’t happen to normal people. Give Winn a break.
James may truly want to help, but somebody please give him some pointers: Good things to do for your friend: give them a break to recover from a trauma, go visit them for the express purpose of seeing them and being there for them, listen to what they have to say. Winn is always the #supportive friend, but he could definitely use one of those himself.
“It’s Stargate!” #nerd
WINN DESIGNED KARA’S SUIT WITH POCKETS AT THE SHOULDERS AND CAPE. #HERO #GENIUS
Tracing the portal trip to its base planet. #genius
Tooooootally a Captain America shirt right there. #nerd
I could talk about this scene for days but just kudos to Jeremy for brilliantly portraying a panic attack with all of Winn’s little mannerisms here: flight instinct, pushing his sleeves up, trying to breathe normally, stammering, all of it. Bravo.
“Kara needs you. I need you.” #hero
Alex is just amazing in this scene.
Winn + Space = the only OTP
Please tell me whose bright idea it was to leave an untrained agent by himself on a dangerous alien planet with no means of protection other than a bulletproof vest and what appears to be a completely empty weapon holster. ???? #protect him
You are not the red shirt.
“You brought WINN to space?” I hear you, Kara.
Winn taking on a murderous alien with only his wits and a space rock is amazing. #hero
LOOK AT THIS BRAVE CLEVER HERO. Yeah, you had better be watching Kara, look what your friend can do.
“Start the car!” is like my second favorite Mon-el line of all time, just have to put that out there.
Sometimes, being a genius means aggressively hitting alien technology until it does the thing. #genius #sorta #desperate times
Did anyone else notice that Kara pushed Winn safely through the portal and then suddenly he’s still with them at the end? Terrible continuity, but I’m just going to choose to believe that the little space nerd didn’t want to leave it forever quick so quickly.
#no hugs for Winn. :(
Look at him. He is over the moon. Well. Close. ;)
When did he get the space rocks? Collecting samples while fixing the portal? Or from shaking out his vest and shoes and finding space dust there?
WIINN. SCHOTT. PROTECTS. THE. STARS. #hero
2x10, We Could Be Heroes
Winn. Is. Tired.
It’s a tossup whether the fact that James is injured or the fact that Winn’s suit failed is the reasoning for him wanting to tell Kara immediately.
“This is officially the first time I have ever asked you for anything.” ..... He has a point. And all he wants is to tell the truth.
“Maybe she’ll turn all the girlfriends evil again, I don’t know!” Winn Schott is the saltiest, most extra cinnamon roll in the world.
Cries out in anguish when Kara breaks a computer. XD #nerd
Pretty sure if Kara had maybe had a heart to heart with her best friend, it probably would have kept him from going behind their backs to help Guardian again. He wants to prove a point, and prove his worth.
Jack-of-all-trades #8?: Man in the Van. He has too many trades. I’ve lost count.
“Short answer: science,” is the best techno-babble replacement line.
Stuff goes wrong. Calls Kara. Winn isn’t an idiot.
Space Dad lecturing Winn and Winn thinks he’s this close to being dead. XD Bonus of Space Dad complimenting Winn and James and acknowledging their work. Kara, take notes.
When Kara lectures them, James leaves. But Winn waits. He waits to see if Kara has anything else she wants to say. And he looks so disappointed as he walks away. :( #always?
2x11, The Martian Chronicles **Winnisode**
not the most development, but some thrilling heroics
“Didn’t know I’d be seeing you tonight.” “Why wouldn’t you be?” Kara, some people do actually have work schedules that they try to stick to in order to keep their jobs, and most humans actually benefit from them.
That sad smile of his when she says “you could have been killed” It’s the thing he worries about with her. He knows, Kara.
“Have you ever thought that maybe I have a calling too?” This is one of only a handful of times Winn directly stands up for himself, and I want to stand up and applaud.
Gameplanning with Vasquez. YES. Also, good to see at least one of the other DEO agents actually being allowed to do noticeable work.
Confusion and horror in reaction to seeing the White Martian double. #protect him
They just.....wreck all the computers. Winn is really going to have a lot of work.
Spoilers: Everything from this point is not Winn, but the Martian. But that Martian has access to Winn’s memories, including learned abilities and general knowledge, and uses that to his advantage. Also, little note: Winn was probably physically the easiest target in the room. He’s not tactically trained. Maybe that’s why the White Martian took him out, because it needed a hiding place and Winn was a safe bet. On the other hand, the other one also took Alex, so. It may have been more than luck that led the Martians to selecting Winn, the genius whose mind and access they could use to implement their plan.
“Teakwood and tobacco.” I need the story behind this. Current headcanon is that this smell is associate with a foster home.
Martian!Winn noticeably nervous about J’onn’s mind scan.
Covering his initial offense at M’gann’s insult by turning it into a very Winn-like quip.
There is thinly veiled contempt in Martian!Winn’s glance at J’onn. Nice acting, nice directing there.
#whatEvenIsThatHandThingy ???
#ScaryWinn
I...I really hope Jeremy enjoyed this as much as it looks like he did.
Winn has access to the whole system. That’s great. Uuuuuntil an evil alien gets to the reactor.
“We need the real Winn to unlock it.” I love that Alex doesn’t even question if anyone else can beat Martian!Winn’s encryption. However, I’m not sure if this is the real Alex here or not...
Also, seriously Kara, why has it taken you this long to show concern for your friend?
non-Winn-related commentary: #this is not the time for a meaningful chat. #you are going to get blown up.
WINN. UNCONSCIOUS. TIED UP ON THE CEILING. how dare. #protect him
“Whhyyyyy??!” is me when my alarm clock goes off. Probably Winn too.
“OOooHhHh wegottagetouttahere” XD XD
....Recovers faster than Alex. Maybe because he’s already ‘been there done that’ with someone being in his brain?
“About four minutes?” Love him.
Psyching himself up, assuring he can do it, right before seeing the battle going on around the reactor.
Warns J’onn about Armek. #hero #space fam
Space Dad’s priorities: protect the children, stop the bomb. #space fam
Has the courage to move through the fight to the core. He has his fear well in control here, just getting to work. #hero
“Whoever encoded this was a genius.” You. You sir. You are the #genius.
“This did not used to happen at CatCo.” Sweetheart. It wasn’t a lot better.
“Close? We had like twelve seconds to spare!”
“Can’t believe it’s still nighttime.” It’s ok, no one knows how time passes in this town buddy.
Put it on record: Kara just showed appreciation for Winn doing his job and saving the day. He couldn’t have done it alone, but no one else could have done it without him. #always #hero
“Unless you object.” He’s giving her a chance to make amends and she takes it, not giving him any reason not to go with Guardian. #supportive friend. “Be Safe.” She also shows care for him, which has become rare.
#Always.
Alrighty, that’s it for this post! I’ll add the rest of the episodes to a second part, which I shall link from here as soon as it’s posted. :D Hope you enjoyed. Winn Schott deserves the world.

Hey hi hello is anyone else just a puddle of emotion after that episode? Yes? Well then! Let’s all be puddles of emotion TOGETHER by way of a poorly organized recap!
Spoilers, obvs.
Okay, OKAY, so like. I went in with...I’m not gonna say low expectations, because Season 3 has been delivering BUT. I did think it...improbable? That we were gonna get a solid forty plus minutes of just Kara and Alura dealing with the emotional fallout of this meeting (which was the dream lemme tell ya) so I decided, fairly early on, that I was gonna take what I could get, so to speak.
WELL.
WHAT WE GOT WAS PRETTY GOOD? ALL THINGS CONSIDERED?
I mean. Just briefly:
Kara’s ongoing struggle with identity PLUS multiple references to status as an alien on Earth/immigrant
Cut back and forth between Kara’s Rousing Speech and Alex ‘You’re the Reason I Felt at Home on This Planet’ Danvers
Alex’s CAN I HAVE IT ALL??? struggle (spoilers, Alex: You can.)
Mon El finally, finally getting his Pet the Dog moment (more on that in a bit)
Uh, FORT ROZZ MENTION? ASTRA MENTION???
RUBY AND WINN BONDING OVER TERRIBLE PARENTS
SPACE DAD BEING HERE FOR HIS DISASTER HUMAN DAUGHTER
And again, that’s...just a brief outline of the plots.
Oh, right, Reign and Lena and James are there too.
SEE. SO MUCH.
(This is where Supergirl’s overeager tendency to cram in EVERYTHING is kind of welcome.)
Right. Okay. Specifics:
I’m gonna go out of order because there were references that I really liked THE FIRST BEING:
Evil Holo-Woman is on the COUNCIL *gasp* and her name is SELENA! *double gasp*
And that’s exciting because SELENA is the villain from Supergirl the 1984 film!
There is a lot less scenery-chewing with this version though, I must say.
Also, smaller reference, but I liked that in the council room, the two sculptures flanking the door are reminiscent of the...okay if I try to describe it it’s gonna be weird so here’s a pic:
Tumblr media
(The metal circle things, there.)
We learned about Zor’s fate. RIP Zor.
Also, Alex’s bike was blown up. RIP bike.
Nice callback to Midvale there, with Sheriff whatshisname.
(RIP Kenny.)
“I was hoping to get to know my daughter.” Just. Tears. Tears, and audible ‘awwwwws’ at the TV screen.
And the PLANT thing, I just. HnnGGNNNFFF
Also I like the Zor-El home, with it’s li’l marker out front with the crest. Does everyone have that? Is it like the futuristic Kryptonian equivalent of a mailbox?
“Daughter of the Great House of El, alive.” I’ve never liked the whole, ‘Kara is Kryptonian Royalty’ angle but I don’t mind ‘Kara is the Daughter of a Well-To-Do Upper Middle Class Family Known to Make Morally Questionable Decisions’
But it sounds like Zor earned some good press at the end there. Re-purposing his genocide tech. (That’s what I assume Alura was talking about, anyway.)
OKAY, so now it’s time to talk about our good friend Mon El.
I know some folks were upset that he tagged along. AND I know that some people are not overly fond of his ongoing presence in the show, period.
And I get this. I understand this. I was right there with them, last year, praying for his untimely demise.
But he was pretty unobtrusive in this ep? There was an entire scene dedicated to JUST Kara and Alura (which, I mean, is absolutely as it should be) but GIVEN some stuff that went down last year, it’s like. Kinda great. That it’s just Kara and Mom time. And overall, he was kinda...quietly supportive? And he was there to hold the rock, if need be?
BUT NOW. LET’S TALK ABOUT HIS PET-THE-DOG MOMENT.
So, real quick, in case that term is unfamiliar: It’s a thing that happens in stories...it’s common to the point of cliche, hence the term. ‘Pet the dog’ refers to a moment in a story wherein the protagonist does something kind for someone else, and we, as the audience, are thus inclined to root for them. Often, this takes the form of being nice to animals or kids. Think Aladdin giving the bread to the orphans.
(The opposite of this is a ‘kick the dog’ moment. Where the bad guy hurts an innocent, so that we KNOW they’re bad news.)
One of my major gripes last year, regarding our good friend Mike, is that he had multiple opportunities for a ‘pet the dog’ moment. Where he could’ve behaved selflessly, but he did not. (I’m not talking the big ones that the fandom likes to yell about, like leaving the planet. I’m talking small moments of selfless heroism, that would’ve endeared him to us.)
We heard about how great he was, but so often, his scenes with Kara were just...yelling and then promising to be better, that there wasn’t really a ton of time to just be alone with him and see him being this ‘great guy.’
(Which is understandably a tricky line to walk because the show is called Supergirl so any amount of time you dedicate to just hanging out with the Boys is gonna take away time from your lead and gosh, I wish people would lighten up on the writers. It’s a thankless job.)
Which brings us to the gift that is Season Three.
Mon-El helping that kid is his pet the dog moment. Where he’s ON HIS OWN, separate from the women in his life, motivated to do good because it’s the right thing to do, not because he’s trying to earn affection or because someone else told him to.
And really, Season Three has been doing a good job of showing us this mature, heroic Mon El. I’m not saying that he’s been terrible up until now.
BUT AS SOMEONE WHO WANTED TO SEE THIS SPECIFICALLY ONE ENTIRE YEAR AGO...IT IS MASSIVELY SATISFYING.
It soothes my story artist heart.
Anyways.
I’ll say it because it annoys the fandom jerks: Lena and James have the healthiest romantic relationship on the show right now.
(I mean it helps that they’re the only couple really, but whatever, I’m salty.)
(At fandom.)
(To be clear.)
Loved the Kryptonian council. And the design of Krypton as a whole. (Or, I should say, Argo.)
Sketchy space rock is SKETCHY. And reminds me a bit of the omegahedron from Supergirl (1984 version) That thing mutated and merged with like...a dragon sculpture? And caused problems?
(It’s a weird film. Everyone should totally watch it.)
But yeah, I’m thinking that’ll be a Problem coming up.
I’m digging Ruby a whole lot more in this back half (not that I ever really disliked her? I was mostly just ‘eh.’) But she’s playing off of the other characters a lot better, I think.
OKAY, I think...I think that’s it? I think I covered everything? Maybe?
If I missed stuff I can always add it. *shrugs*
OH WAIT HOW ‘BOUT THAT PROMO, HUH?????
TO SAY NOTHING OF THE CLIFFHANGER.
WELL PLAYED, SHOW. WELL PLAYED.
