Idk im rambling here but what if there was a story with a sizeshifter and a human or something but whenever the sizeshifter shifts they slowly lose their humanity and get more instinctive.

Plus imagine being the sizeshifters significant other and their instincts recognise them to protect. Like my gosh they could be absolutely lost in their instincts by that point and destroying things by accident, but the second their S.O get hurt it’s instant mother henning their well being!

And for the non sizeshifter they have to come to terms with what’s happening to them and work out what they’re going to do because they don’t wanna lose em to instinct but what else can they do?

So, I was doing some editing the other day, and I realized something about the structure of “Replacements” that I hadn’t before. The “Chipped Crosshair Commits War Crimes” sequence is immediately preceded by Omega telling Hunter that he shouldn’t be angry at Crosshair, because it’s not Crosshair’s fault, which I’d clocked before. The thing I hadn’t clocked, though, was the way the war crimes sequence is framed on the other side by a scene of Omega confronting a dangerous wild animal and realizing that even though it’s cornered and lashing out, it doesn’t actually want to hurt her if it can help it—it’s just hungry and scared. I don’t one-hundred percent know what to do with this, but the framing if the war crimes sequence by those two scenes is important, so just throwing some stuff out there:

1. The war crimes sequence begins with a moment that is heavily implied by the visuals to be the tail end of Crosshair having had another enhancement procedure done to his chip and is framed by these two Omega scenes as a way for the storytellers to remind us that as monstrous as Crosshair’s actions are, it’s not something he’s choosing to do. He’s been robbed of the capacity to do otherwise. Omega saying, “You shouldn’t be angry at him; it’s not his fault,” is as direct a way of telling the audience that as you can get. He’s culpable for other stuff he’s going to do later on, but not this, and that’s important.

2. The contrast between the way Crosshair’s confrontations with Saw Gerrera’s group and ES-01 all end with violence and death and the way Omega’s confrontation with the ordo moon dragon ends with understanding and an alternative solution that doesn’t involve violence, though she’s carrying a blaster, strengthens each part of the episode. The Omega-Hunter-centric A-plot has a lot of complex emotional stuff going on, but it’s also fairly heartwarming and lighthearted. The Crosshair-centric B plot is, like everything to do with Crosshair in this show, pitch dark. But putting them in direct contrast with each other and highlighting the parallels between the them helps to both make them feel contiguous when we would otherwise feel tone whiplash and cranks the reaction the audience has to each part of the episode up to eleven. The horror of seeing that close of up Crosshair’s helmeted face as we hear screams and blaster fire in the background and know those civilians are dead heightens the relief that Omega doesn’t have to shoot the moon dragon in the end; the warmth of having the brothers all gathered together as Wrecker welcomes her to her new room and makes sure she knows she’s welcome and has a place with them highlights the depth of Crosshair’s emptiness in the previous scene. They just do a very good job of tying this together, and I’m here for it.

3. Once The Bad Batch is over and finished (hopefully not for a long while) it’s going to be so damn fun to go back and analyze the show as a whole.

You and brendan had met when you guys were kids due to your moms being friends. You always hated having brendan around because you thought he was annoying and would always bickering with you. When you were 16, you had actually come to terms with your feelings about brendan and he came to terms with his feelings about you. You two started dating and your relationship was everything that you could have wanted. You both ended up at michigan and you two quickly became one of the poster couples. When brendan signed with Vegas, it was a no brainer that your relationship would go long distance. You and brendan had so much trust in each other but sometimes trust can be broken.

You were currently sitting in Brendan’s room in LA waiting for him to come back upstairs. You were scrolling on your phone when you got a dm from a girl that you didn’t know. You opened the message that read “i thought that you might want to see this” with a video attached to it. You clicked on the video and god you wished you didn’t. Your eyes started to well up with tears as you watched brendan make out with another girl who was sitting on his lap. As soon as you set your phone down on his bed and started moving around the room to gather your things when brendan comes back to his room. “Babe what are you doing?” “don’t call me that brendan” you said not even looking at him. “W-what’s wrong?” “The fact that your going around shoving your tongue down other girls throats. Did our relationship mean nothing to you?” He just stared at you, not saying a word. “How’d you find out” brendan asked “god, why does that even matter to you?!” You said slightly yelling, feeling hot tears streaming down your face. He just stared at the ground, not answering your question. “That wasnt that the only time was it?” You asked, your voice cracking, scared to hear the answer. “No” brendan responded quietly. “How long?” “Four months” your heart broke into more pieces, if that was even possible. You tried to hold it together, not wanting to breakdown anymore than you already were. You took of the necklace he gave you and handed it to him. “I’ll drop the rest of your stuff off later” You said as you grabbed your stuff and walked out the door, brendan not even saying a word. You were able to hold it together until you got out the door and to your car. You broke down as soon as you shut your car door. You were overflowing with emotions. You kept replaying the fact that brendan didn’t seem to be upset at the fact that you found out. Did your relationship mean nothing to him? Was he bored of you? Did you not give him enough? What did that girl have that you didn’t? Thoughts swirled through your mind as you pulled out of the driveway and started to drive home. Brendan walked out of his room to see jordan standing in the hallway staring at him “you’re a piece of shit.”

A couple months later brendan opened instagram and clicked on Thomas’ story seeing that he had posted. He stared at the picture in disbelief as he saw his best friend with his arms around your waist as your head was resting on his chest. “What the fuck”

Jesse actually cringes and shakes his head no over and over again.

"It could never. Give advice to my master??"

He swallows hard as Mark comes in and sits down next to Jesse, putting a hand on his arm.

"It's just me, Jesse. Just Mark. You can answer if you want to. I'd honestly love to know what you think."

His eyes go wide before dropping into a frown, still shaking his head no.

"Um, it really doesn't know more than its master, Mark, more than Mark."

Mark huffs softly, "I don't know about that. I'd say you have far more experience at this than I do."

Jesse sucks in a breath, filling the entirety of his lungs before breathing out again.

"Okay, um, maybe just one thing."

Jesse flicks his eyes up to Mark and Mark gives him a small nod, encouraging him to go on.

"More rules, maybe, in the beginning?"

Mark lifts his eyebrows and he tilts his head to the side.

"Yeah?"

Jesse nods once and shifts in his seat, angling more towards Mark.

"So, um, you know that pets are made to serve a master? Right, of course you know that, it means, um.."

"Hey," Mark squeezes Jesse's hand, "You are not going to say anything wrong, I promise. I wont be mad. Go on."

Jesse pushes out another breath but continues.

"You don't really act like a master is supposed to act. And, um, that was a little scary at first. It didn't know if it was doing what you wanted at all and it thought it would get thrown away. It didn't know how to please you."

"Jesse..."

Jesse laced their fingers together and squeezed Mark's hand. He looked urgently into Mark's eyes now.

"It knows now. It does. I do. I know you would never hurt me or throw me away. But in the beginning, it went from obeying nothing but rules to, well, none at all. And that was a little scary."

"Jesse, I'm so sorry. I should have thought to give you some kind of, I don't know, some structure. I'll be better at that. We can come up with something together, maybe? God, I'm so sorry that you were scared."

Jesse smiled softly and leaned his forehead down, tapping it once against their joined hands and coming back up to look at Mark.

"It isn't scared anymore. Rules used to be the only way to stay safe. That isn't true here, with you. I know that now. It just took a little bit for it to understand. That's all."

It was Mark's turn to lean down and he kissed the top of Jesse's hand.

"Thank you for telling me, Jesse. Really. I never want you to feel scared, okay? Will you promise to tell me? If you get scared again? If you need me to do anything different, at all? Please tell me. Can you do that?"

Jesse nods and smiles at Mark.

"It can do that. I promise."
