Do I think Chris Carter's comments are insensitive?

Yes.

Do I still hate that he used Scully’s pregnancy for dramatic effect AGAIN?

Hell yes.

However I don’t regret the opportunity in season 10 and especially 11 to witness middle-aged M & S. While I hate that it was up to fanfic writers to make sense of the Conversation on the Pullout Sofa or Scully’s maddening speech at the end of MSIV, revival MSR is one of my favorite genres now. So many wonderful stories came out of this and in my head canon they’re still out there, happy and together.

the x-files revival may have its flaws, but it truly is a testament to mulder's love for scully. it's mulder not doing anything to win her back, not because he doesn't want to be with her, but because deep down he's convinced that he already ruined her life in so many ways and he sees that she's in a better place and wishes he could resent her for that, but he loves her too much and he can't. he loves her too much. it's mulder saying "i'm here" on the phone when her mom is dying and staying with her until the end, and after the end. he holds her, comforts her, and he lets her return to philly with him because he knows she needs to work her pain away. it's mulder saying "you're never just anything to me, scully", and slitting a man's throat because he's hurting her and he's just so fucking tired of risking losing her. it's mulder holding her at night when she can't sleep, and never pushing her for something she's not ready for. he lets her come back to him, slowly. into his bed, into his house. his heart, though, she never left. it's mulder staying by her side, listening. he's all ears. it's mulder keeping at bay his own pain and hopes over william's loss, because he doesn't want to feed her guilt and for once he needs to be the one down to the earth because he knows how much she's hoping, he knows how much her heart will break all over again. it's mulder waiting for her in the church, lighting candles and asking for miracles he doesn't even believe in. it doesn't matter, he believes in her. it's mulder saying that she's damn good at her job, and he's just so happy to have the chance to work with her again. chasing monsters and doing autopsies and looking where no one else is willing to look. with her. and coming home at night just to fall asleep on their couch, in their home, next to her. a house that was lonely and haunted for far too long. and in the end it's about her, it's about their son and finding him. it's about being a father, it's about changing his priorities because now he knows what matters the most to him. it's that he loves her too much.

Sexiest thing Scully has done is probably when she unashamedly checks Mulder out in the quarantine shower. I love that it’s like a green light for Mulder and he reciprocates the gesture (and then some!)

Sexiest thing Mulder has done is love Emily. He was willing to kill for a little girl he’d only met twice and when he was carrying her to the hospital, just adorable. Mulder has hot Dad DNA.

60th years of G-Woman

Happy 60th years SCULLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

the night before her birthday Mulder had a beautiful surprise for Scully. he planned a night out In fancy restaurant with a ball room for dinner and dance. A couple of weeks ago when he was thinking how he would celebrated her this year because he forgot the past two years, he playfully blamed it to age. 

Mulder selected a fancy Italian restaurant he found on Instagram after asking William for help to surprise his mom; the restaurant has a gorgeous aesthetic resembling a Italian village, in the middle of the room is a dance floor and a stage for the musicians, the comments on the instagram feed are great; Mulder saw the menu online at it had the favorite dishes of Scully and also her favorite wine. He made the reservation for Friday night; he planned to take her the day before her birthday and celebrate at midnight together in the intimacy of their bedroom. 

Now the next step is buying the gift, for his one in however how many millions are in the world right now; he did one of the things he hated more in the world, go to the mall, he spend a whole day looking for what to buy, he enter a jewelry store an the young woman help him to choose. 

Woman (smiling at him): hi sir, welcome, can I help you find anything?

M (not understanding that the woman was talking to him): oh yes thank you, I’m looking for something for my partner. 

Woman: tell me about her and the occasion so I’ll help you sir found the perfect gift. 

M: well hmm we’ve met 31 years ago when she start working with me, she is the most beautiful woman I´ve ever met, we been together for more than 20 years now and the occasion is for her sixtieth birthday. 

Woman: it’s obvious how much you love her sir, now tell me about what she looks like. 

M: she is petite, with the bluest eyes you ever seen, her hair is red thanks to the dye these days, not that she needed it but she doesn’t relent to the fading red of her natural color; her smile is beautiful, she doesn’t like to wear big jewelry or very visible just simple but elegant pieces. 

Woman: I think I know the best piece. (She goes to the glass and took out a set of necklace, earrings and ring with diamonds and emeralds, not too big or obnoxious)

M: it’s incredible, I will take it. 

W: perfect sir, I’ll arranged the set and it’s yours. Do you want any inscription or a card inside of the box?

M: I didn’t think about it, the card will be fine

W: what do you want me to write sir?

M: to my constant and touchstone, happy 60th birthday G-Woman. Ps: you are ageless Ly <3 

Then the woman gave him the gift and he left. 

At Friday night 

Mulder was getting ready he was wearing his tuxedo, a rare sight these days in his retirement from special agent to teacher in Quantico like scully. He told scully they were going out on a romantic dinner to a place that requires black tie; scully chose an emerald green long velvet dress with sleeves and a nice pair of heels. Mulder couldn’t help but smiled when he see her. 

At the restaurant the evening unfolded with charm at the candlelight in their table and the soft twinkling lights creating a romantic atmosphere, the band started to play soft melodies to the couples dinner. 

Scully: mulder this place is enchanting, how did you manage to find it?

mulder: a little bit of faith scully (feigning hurt) but yeah actually Will taught me to look on instagram for venues. 

Scully: I love it mulder (she gave him a kiss) 

After dinner mulder stood and took scully to the dance floor, the swayed to the rhythm of every slow song and dance to the ones with a much rapid rhythm, a photographer took their picture while dancing it was a beautiful one were scully was leaning on mulder chest and mulder was looking at her like she was the only woman on this earth, and for him that she was. 

Scully feet started to hurt and they return to their table, mulder order another bottle of her favorite wine and give the waiter a note when scully didn´t see. Minutes later the waiter appeared with a new bottle of whine and a dessert with a candle light and the number 60th in it, the other waiter handed her a flower bouquet mulder order previously from a florist. After the dessert and half bottle of wine he decided to give her the special gift he bought at the jewelry store. 

M: Scully I only wanted to thank you for the amazing life you decided to live with me, I’m so grateful to be celebrating with you and I hope you like it. 

Scully: mulder I wouldn’t have it any other way, you’re and always be my constant

Mulder: even when I´ll be gray and old? (He said teasing her)

Scully: what do you mean with when? (She laughs) you already are my silver fox, Mulder and you’re not old 

Mulder: well thanks for the boost G-woman

He then took the gift bag where the jewelry set was. “And finally my last gift scully”. She opened it and the first thing she saw was the card “to my constant and touchstone, happy 60th birthday G-Woman. Ps: you are ageless Ly <3” “Oh, Mulder" she retrieve the card and was left without words the gorgeous set of jewelry was astonishing and perfect for her outfit, she looked at mulder who saw her with love and awe. “Mulder this is omg beautiful” he kissed her. “Let me put it in that neck of yours, you mind?” She grab her hair and put it aside so mulder could put on the necklace and then he kneels, with a few cracks of knee, to put on the ring on her well manicured finger. She also put on the earrings. The photographer ask them to stand to take a picture of them, they agree and the picture is taken. 

The dance floor called them again so they keep dancing and swaying to the rhythm. When the music stops Mulder look for the first time in the whole evening his clock, it marked 1:00 am, they had dance the whole night. 

“Well well well my cinderella it appears that our magic dance is ending” 

“mulder what are you talking about?” Scully gave him her raise eyebrow and disbelief look 

“well its 1 am scully you’re officially 60th, happy birthday” Mulder put his arm on her waist and kiss her “how does it feels, anything aches?” He ask her teasing. 

“You tell me mulder I’m not the one who woke up whining because of his back and refuse to go to the urologist” she replied, 

“Oh that was a low blow scully, not fair; in my defense the urologist isn’t necessary” mulder said with a playful tone. 

“Mulder seriously I can’t believe we danced the whole night, my feet are going to kill me tomorrow or well in the morning” 

“so what scully you had fun, I’ll be happy to carry you the whole day tomorrow if your feet hurt much” they were walking to the door out 

“oh mulder your are sweet, but no your back wouldn’t like it”. 

The photographer stop them and give them the pictures. 

“Thank you so much” said mulder to the man and gave him 20 dollars

At the unremarkable house they enjoy each other comfort and intimacy, despite scully teasing about his stamina, they did great in the bedroom.

just rewatched Jump the Shark & i am: a mess

#it's one of my biggest comfort eps. literally a perfect episode #it feels like it was written for me not as an X Files fan but as a Lone Gunmen fan #& i'll never get over how perfect their deaths are #like yeah it's faked but even if it wasn't. it's the most fitting ending they could've gotten i think #(ignoring what the revival did bc i'm still kinda :/ about that) #also Yves being in the X Files is genuinely the best thing that could've ever happened on this show #like msr being canon? i can deal with that not happening #but Yves being in one (1) episode of the main show???? i wouldn't give that up for anything #& Jimmy too of course <3 my most beloved #when your polycule is small but y'all crazy <33333 #anyway this episode means the absolute world to me i just love the Lone Gunmen so so so so so much

He took her onto the navy ship which he he worked, showing her everything from the command room to the engine room. He took her to the tiny bunk beds where the crew slept, the head, and the kitchen. Young Dana looked at the living arrangements in horror.  When he took her to the forward dock of the ship and she could see the vast ocean before her. It was then that she understood her fathers love for the sea and adopted the same passion. It was this day that her love and respect for her father grew immensely, and sometimes where she needs to take a break from life and retreat to her happy place, it is on the dock of that ship. 

Mulder and Scully come to separate but important realizations as starry-eyed children.

4. Mulder shopping for Scully

It had been easy in the past, with women like Diana and Phoebe, he found the most dazzling expensive piece of jewelry and they were happy. The gifts were nice but he never really put much thought into them. That wasn't Scully.

Post IVF-- Mulder wants to pick the perfect gift for Scully's birthday after the IVF and before the impending millennium.

Scully continued on with he night-time ritual of putting on her pajamas, fluffing up her pillows, and turning down her sheets, when Mulder emerged from the bathroom. He plopped unceremoniously onto the bed disrupting the sheets that she had just perfected. 

Pre-Dating-- Mulder and Scully take their own personal liberties.

Heaving herself out of the sunken cushion of the battered chair, she pushed it closer to Mulder’s bedside. Once settled back into the Scully-shaped indent she had managed to create over the last three days, she hesitantly reached out and took Mulder’s hand in hers. Despite his improving condition, fear wound around her heart, squeezing out all hope and replacing it with the heavy weight of despair. He could very easily be ripped from her life once again. 

Deadalive Scully waits (and begs) for Mulder to wake up.

In contrast to the corridor outside, the office was brightly lit and austerely neat, its untidiest feature being a pinboard near the door that was covered in newspaper cuttings and photographs.  Even those were arranged in a semblance of order.  There was a desk which, apart from a stack of ageing files,  a set of document trays and a slide projector, seemed to be empty of even normal office equipment; and a set of shelves around the walls filled with orderly rows of books and box files.  Mulder couldn't remember the last time he'd seen any office in the Bureau looking so tidy, and he included the Director's inner sanctum in that assessment.

AU-- Pilot Mulder is assigned to Scully.

9 Minutes

 The label inside the blouse collar bore the name of one of Scully's favourite outfitters and as she examined it, noting that the size was also her own, she made a disturbing discovery.  Just inside the neck of the blouse lay a small tangled gold chain and cross.

   Scully's fingers flew to her own neck, where an identical cross, given to her by her mother on her fifteenth birthday, lay against her skin.  What the –

   Her thoughts were suddenly jerked away by a distant scrabbling sound, barely audible above the noise of the machines around her....

   Scully jumped to her feet.  That voice had been familiar.  "Mulder!" she shouted, hearing her voice echo horribly.

   No reply, but there was a series of thumps and grunts, brought up finally by a loud thud. 

AU-- Pilot Scully flashes to the FTF hallway in the 9 minutes she and Mulder lose on the road.

Conversations

There was a pause as she tried to hang onto her anger and hurt, but Scully's innate sense of what was fair wouldn't allow this statement to pass unchallenged.  "I don't know about that, Mulder," she observed ruefully.  "I can think of a couple of occasions when I haven't been particularly fair to you.  More than a couple, if I'm honest."

"I won't argue you with you, but nothing you've done, or imagine you've done, can possibly match how unfair I've been to you over the past five years."

"I don't want to play "my blame's bigger than your blame" either."

Mulder gave a rough chuckle.  "Okay."

Pre-Dating-- Mulder and Scully get nudged and scolded by her family (twice) and Skinner (once) before they finally confront their S6 hurts and confess their love... in a cave-in.

Ah, yes, when the vengeful cultists also smashed their rental car’s windows and slit its tires. They were nothing if not thorough. You had to grant them that.

Scully is running a temperature, and Mulder gets her to a motel as fast as he can with slashed tires and missing luggage.

He leaned closer and drew a deep, argumentative breath against his congestion, instead sneezing dramatically.

“Great, now I have your germs all over me.”

Scully insists on taking Mulder home after he keeps sneezing in the office.

Travel

There are moments where he makes a fool of himself in airports. He catches glimpses of dark braids, swinging for just a moment before disappearing into the throng of people, and finds that his hands are shaking. She is forever escaping him, forever just a few steps ahead, and his chest tightens with the absolute conviction that it was her, that those braids belonged to her and now he has lost her again in the crowd.

It happens for the first time around Scully. She reaches for her gun and then his hand. He is incredibly grateful, suddenly; he hadn’t realized he’d been afraid that she wouldn’t.

Early seasons Mulder and Scully bond in airports, learning to appreciate each other.

City in the Clouds

He tells her he wants to settle down in the country, grow old where he can see the stars. He tells her she could be a mother, and she thinks for the first time of settling down with him. Fleetingly, she sees herself in the window of a little white farmhouse, wearing an apron. Cooking oatmeal.

She couldn’t stand it.

Scully realizes, years later, that she did want to live Home Mulder's domestic dream.

Kitchen

On the tabletop, her index finger splashes into a small pool of blood. “Come on,” she says, and Mulder leans obediently forward. The cut isn’t bad, or deep – head wounds always look worse than they actually are – but she dabs at it anyway, cleaning the blood away, applying disinfectant. He hisses, tries to move away, but she has one hand pressed to the top of his head, holding him steady.

Scully cleans up Mulder's latest injuries; and the two make a laughing but important blood brother pact.

Food

“There’s cheese on your mouth,” she says, and he tries to see it in the reflexion of the window but the car weaves and she grabs his arm instinctively.

“Mulder! Watch the road, I’ll do it.”

She wipes the corner of his mouth crudely with the scratchy brown napkin.

Mulder realizes he loves Scully while they eat food in the car, scratchy napkins and celestial comparisons serving as evidence for his belief.

Beautitudes

“I can’t accept it,” he says, and she wants to say, “You have to, it’s happening,” and, “There’s nothing anyone can do about it,” but he wouldn’t believe that either.

He makes everything harder.

Somehow, though, she is thankful. He’s fighting for her, and no one fights harder than Mulder.

Scully and Mulder support each other through their shared and separate tragedies.

The Strength of Their Beliefs

Sometimes he talks. Don't leave. I need you to stay. Keep fighting. I'll make them pay for this. I don't know who did this. I can't let them let you go and I can't make you stay. 

One Breath Mulder desperately clutches Scully's necklace while Scully feels his gaze, even in her coma.

The Realization of Weakness

Hidden in the back of his mind, the thought of not finding the thought of the Scully he lost. He has noticed that things faze her that she never blinked at before. Now she turns away and says she needs a moment when she is faced with the horrors of the world where previously she would have been fired up with rage at the perpetuator and would be shooting down his theories with facts. That is one of the things he missed most when she was taken for that long time; he would say "I think you have a vampire problem here" and pause, expecting her to take a deep breath and start listing all the reasons why that can't be after her exasperated "Mulder."

Irresistible Mulder wants to help support or heal Scully, hoping that, somehow, he is.

Waiting, in Reverse Order

For once, in a change of pace, she waits at his bedside. They have changed places, one sleeps on the bed and the other keeps a vigil in the uncomfortable chair at the bedside. Last time she was the one in the bed and he was waiting but now they have changed. She saved his life and waits at his bedside, hoping that her last memory of him is not the one where he ditches her to keep her safe.

End Game Scully waits in the hospital instead of Mulder, for once.

"Things are tough all over," I replied in my best hard-boiled voice.

He smiled darkly. "A change is gonna come..."

Haunted

//As the roar and keening whistle grew louder, I stood up and walked into the trough between the rails. With an increasing feeling of clarity and peace, I turned to face my ride. When I threw the empty bottle against the rails, I couldn't help smiling at the sharp, crashing sound it made as it shattered. It sounded final. The approaching train looked liked a darker, moving cutout in the night. Except for the flashing lights.

//I couldn't move. Terror and a bone-deep feeling of loss gripped me along with paralysis as the flickering lights froze me in place. I couldn't see through the glare, and I heard someone screaming, and I could swear it was a girl, and she was screaming words, but I couldn't make them out, even as I sensed that she yelled the same word over and over again, and I was helpless and couldn't move again...

Mulder is transported to the memories of his childhood suicidal ideations while investigating a ghost and train tracks casefile.

Dead to the World

He looked so pale and still lying there. He had something odd, something that had left bruises and abrasions, wrapped tightly around his neck. Two more lines of that something enveloped his wrists. When she felt his neck to search for a pulse her fingers brushed it and quickly shied away. It was warm, moist, and alive. The other end of each of the lines trailed off into the darkness.

But he still lived. She took a scalpel from her coat pocket and prepared to cut him loose.

Mulder's eyes slowly opened, as if consciousness didn't come easily. She watched so many emotions flicker through them before he settled on blankness.

S5 Mulder willingly lets a monster parading as Samantha kill him; and Scully watches, horrified at his suicidal tendencies.

Circle - Chapter 1

It’d be interesting to see what Alex’s Consortium would be like. Maybe no better. Maybe his would even be worse.

But he was the one paying me.

AU-- Cashier rises through the Consortium ranks with the help of Krycek... only to face him again, years later, in a darker context.

Unprotected

"You have a neck brace on. You could have been killed. It was a stupid thing to do."

Mulder couldn't tell if he felt rage or despair. It teetered from one side to the next from second to second. He told myself that she was just upset that he'd ditched her and injured himself again, but--

He remembered why he never confessed anything to her or anyone if he could avoid it.

An injured Mulder feels alone after a careless comment from Scully.

7-Eleven Nightmares at 3 a.m.

I take a little longer than I should to turn back around, but the room behind me has transformed: it is lit softly, by candles fixed on each side of the fireplace, casting amber halos on the walls, and the fireplace now has a fire, which has burned down to nothing but softly smoldering ashes....

I swing back in his direction. He hasn't budged. Unexpectedly, he moves past me into the room, startling me into a yelp which he doesn't seem to hear.

An unconscious Mulder witnesses the vision of a dead man sledgehammer his family.

The Fear Place

I wonder what other people see when they look at him; the man is beautiful with his wild, windblown dark hair, and eyes, and tall, lean frame. A few of them are audacious enough to look him up and down, but they usually stop when they get to his eyes. He's thirty-eight, but he has the eyes of an old soul. He sees deep, and through, observing things that others overlook. He looks at smiles and perceives the lies hiding behind them. He sees the truth.

Mulder's messed-up knee and mother-son dynamic drives him to call Scully on Thanksgiving for reinforcements. Tena finally relents, if only a little.

Mulder has half-convinced himself that it’s not important, that they have to get through this crisis first. He owes Scully the truth, but he can’t bring himself to add to her burden.

Let Them Eat Cake

Scully peruses the plate of donuts at the end of the table, irritated when she realizes that cake donuts are all that’s left. She feels someone lean in close behind her, and an arm snakes around to snag one of the chocolate-frosted ones with multi-colored sprinkles.

She glances over her shoulder to see Mulder’s grin. “You didn’t want that one, did you, Scully?”

She resists rolling her eyes through a strong effort of will. “I don’t like cake donuts, Mulder.”

“Cake donuts are the best kind,” Mulder protests, taking a big bite, catching the crumbs with his tongue.

Under the Mistletoe

“Hm?” He adjusted his glasses as he looked up at her.

“Is there something you wanted to tell me?”

“About what?”

“You know about what.”

He frowned, clearly confused. “No, I don’t know. What did I do?”

Scully pointed to the mistletoe, waiting for him to confess, or at least smirk. Instead, his face remained completely innocent—although that didn’t mean much, since this was Mulder.

Pre-Dating-- Scully notices but avoids the mistletoe. Mulder does not.

Reflections

His old man had missed Vietnam, but Doggett had an uncle who’d joined up. He’d heard a few stories, most while on leave after boot camp. Uncle Duane seemed to think they shared a connection that hadn’t been there before, and he talked about steamy nights that were filled with gunfire and the smell of reefer.

Later, much later, when he’d been given an honorable discharge after Beirut, Uncle Duane had talked about the horror of watching your friends get limbs blown off, of hands stained with the blood of innocents.

Pre-This Is Not Happening Skinner shares the details of the Unrequited case with Doggett. Both wonder what was and wasn't worth it.

A Strong Shoulder

The knock on the door came as a surprise around ten, and Scully heaved herself up off the couch, one hand on her back for support. A quick glance through the peephole had her hurrying to open the door.

Mulder stood there, a crooked grin on his face, his eyes a little lost, a little vulnerable. “Hey.”

Post Three Words Mulder slowly drifts in, glad Scully wants him to stay even if he's handling reentry badly.

All I Ever Get For Christmas Is Blue

Scully gave thanks that William was such a good-natured baby; he stirred once as she bundled him up, opening his eyes sleepily, then immediately closed them again once he was secure in his carrier. Keys in hand, she set the car seat down in the hallway to lock the door behind her, then froze as she heard footsteps.

How was it that she could recognize his walk after he’d been gone for months? How was it that she could sense him coming even though she had no expectation of his arrival?

AU-- S9 Mulder returns to Scully and William for Christmas; but he leaves again, though both wishes he could stay.

He stood in his forlorness like it was a new winter coat. It was draped across the downward curve of his shoulders, tugging impishly at his struggling-to-remain-steady mouth. It wasn't that she'd never seen him like this - as much as he tried to hide it, she knew there were certain cases that kept him awake long into the night, same as her - it was just that she'd never seen it so set in.

Pre-Dating-- Scully makes a calculated effort to carefully disentangle Mulder from his mind.

The Prairie State Debate

Dinner twisted away like dandelion wishes, table plated in hard plastic cups and warm to the touch dishes. The tea was syrupy sweet, made by the hand of a true Southern child despite their current place on the map, and the food sported heavy gravys and savory score marks - a combination that left Scully, two servings and only yeses for 'would you like a refill?' Scully, ready to collapse into the gossamer sheets of her bed until tomorrow.

But when she felt fingers on the rise of her shoulder, heard an absence of footsteps beside her, glanced up at a dazzling marquee, she lead the way in to the theater. She was tired, yes, but she had been more so, no doubt would be same time next week, and these moments like monthly allowances were something she needed as much as anything.

Dating-- Scully remembers their first not-date.

It's dark out, moonlit sky extrapolating between the slats of still open blinds, but he gets the sense that it's not the same night he remembers falling asleep in. The only other light is a small lamp somewhere above him, casting low light that does nothing for his pale, thin skin. He looks fragile, even from his own estimates - battered and bruised and made from poorly picked and sewn together parts.

He can't help but think he doesn't deserve the smile he finds waiting for him, not in this state. That doesn't stop her though....

Scully saves a drugged up, nearly dead Mulder.

All I Need's a Fraction of Your Happy Heart

Scully ducked her head into the street, looking both ways before bustling across the crosswalk, Mulder following a single footstep behind. To onlookers, their height difference was exasperated as they hitched their arms up and jogged quickly through the sounds of honking traffic, but it never seemed to cross their minds. When they picked back up on the sidewalk, he ducked his head and leaned forward, just enough so she could hear him, just enough so she could let a laugh kick up her throat.

AU-- Scully, giddy and freshly married on a case, reflects on the events that led to their mutual proposal, and courthouse wedding.

Breakup-- Scully and Mulder reconnect after a car accident. His car breaks down, forcing them to have a tearful conversation.

oh! um. okay! damn this would've been easier if you just asked about the show itself but lemme try

- Scully never just "tolerated" Mulder, she's always liked his crackpot theories, even from the very beginning. she might not always believe him but she listens to him always, no matter how ridiculous he might sound.

- these characters should not have been trusted with having their own kids when they couldn't even keep their dog from being eaten by an alligator. children? babies? come on. get real.

- I don't think they were miserable together, no matter how hard the second movie tried to convince us. i mean these are two incredibly intelligent people who, even before going through innumerable amount of horrors together, delighted in each other's company, always respecting and challenging each other. they are, first and foremost, best friends, have been for many years, and I don't see what could possibly change that after what they've been through.

- following up on that, I'm a revival denier. everything I've learned about those seasons has been against my will. you don't just write the characters whose whole deal is the two of them against the world, and then suddenly decide that actually. they're going to separate. Scully who's always been there for him when nobody else has, who said "I wouldn't change a day" and "I followed you and I'd do it all over again" despite everything she's been through. that Scully? would leave him? because he was. depressed? doesn't sound like the Scully we know and love if I'm being honest

I try to. I really love engaging with the people who write kind things on my stories.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oof. All of my stories are incredibly angsty, but all of them have sugar-sweet endings. Maybe Distraction, only because it might be my only fic that doesn't end with sex??

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

All of them have happy endings. Perhaps Throwing Good After Bad has the happiest ending, just because it's is the angstiest, most violent, most difficult of my stories.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Oh yes. A lot, actually. When I was writing On Marriage about revival MSR, I received death threats for characterizing Mulder as depressed. Someone went to my personal social media accounts and started making fun of my child (a BABY) over this. It's why I got off of Twitter. I very nearly quit the fandom over it and some very kind people rallied to keep me going.

Other than that big one, I get the occasional rude comment. Honestly, they bother me a lot. I go back and forth about continuing to write fanfic because of it. We all write for free and for the love of the characters--why is someone being critical?? (That's where I'm currently at now, and why Edges of the Night is on hiatus. I just cannot with the negativity in my ask box all the time because people are mad the story isn't progressing the way they want it to).

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do. I don't love writing smut and I find it the hardest part of writing. But I LOVE reading it and I love what it adds to a story.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

No.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

God I hope not.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I'm not sure. I don't think so.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, but I'd love to work with someone else :)

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Right now, maybe Edges of the Night? I will probably finish it because I have it fully outlined, but I dread having to deal with my ask box/messages if I keep writing it.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I'm a pretty empathetic person. It's easy for me to get in peoples' heads and figure out their feelings. Writing and resolving angst is probably my biggest strength.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Phew. I find humor really, really hard. I'm not a funny person and I have a hard time making my characters funny. Mulder requires the occasional dose of humor, and that's always super tricky for me. Also smut.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Maybe!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

X-Files. Cold is the Night was my first fic ever, and I was 3 months postpartum then. It was such a nice experience getting out of the baby mindset for a while to write that.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

My loves, my babies. Probably Throwing Good After Bad, Cold is the Night (because it was my first), and Yours and Mine (This Is Our Time). The latter is a fave because it has two of my original characters in it, Gemma and Emry. I've written an original novel about them. They are my true babies.

so, you guys don't know me because I've been away from txf fandom for 20 years (and thank g.d i never posted my teenage msr scribblings lol!) but I'm finally coming out of my slump and I have three x-files fic ideas that are concrete enough to actually start working on. Except I stopped writing for 8 months due to burnout in a highly stressful previous fandom and I'm worried starting all 3 at once will make me backslide, thus, A Poll!

option one: 'Resonance Frequency,' as it says, an AU that slightly exaggerates and focuses on the abilities that Scully is haphazardly hinted to have throughout the series. Playing up the idea of her as an aware but completely unwilling psychic perceptive, she can sense the difference between legit phenomena and red herring/hoax in ways Mulder simply can't but she does *not* want to explain or deal with it (or admit it to herself). She wants proof and quantification of what she senses to make it fit with the way she wants to view the world (ie driven by concrete rules and therefore predictable), and she's afraid to talk to Mulder about it both because of how he treats her faith and not wanting his 'seek out and expose the truth' ways to put a spotlight on her, and Mulder has to come to terms with the fact that his single mindedness and black-and-white thinking is harming the person he cares about, and in a different more direct way than 'if he keeps pushing ~they will hurt her in retribution.'

option two: 'Cuckoo's Children,' taking some of the idea of CGB creating William/revival baby but not using Scully to get there, Spender Sr. arranged for some kind of mysterious clone-hybrid Mulder Take II baby to try again to have a pawn and heir -- a process started when they had access to him for the experimental brain surgery. Mulder and Scully get tipped off about the child and set out to track him down and then have to find a way to cure/stabilize him health-wise. Undecided if the boy is a clone-clone or of half of his genetic material will turn out to be Diana's, or Scully's, or even Samantha's. Themes of Scully working through multiple kinds of jealousy, longing, and grief (Diana's intrusion into their world was recent, Emily was created to be used and discarded but this child seems to be created to be used but kept), Mulder dealing with thinking of himself as a changling child who is poisonous to his loved ones and having to accept that casting himself in that role, though partially true, gives him 100% more feeling of agency than he actually had. (slightly Pawn In Frankinsence by Dorothy Dunnett inspired but without [chess game] and without spitting up the main couple for most of the plot. iykyk)

option three: 'Nothing to Pack,' title in reference to Lisa Hannigan's song Home, the posit of an affair between M & S that began somewhere either in the aftermath of Ice or after Phoebe's mind games, that leaves them both completely overwhelmed and even bewildered in the face of their explosive chemistry and inchoate feelings in the midst of trying to do the work, making it impossible to stay apart and not get wrapped up in each other even when it's risky. Then Scully is taken and Mulder goes into a fugue of loss. When she's back everything is different and wary and brittle, and Mulder treats her with this new distance, and Scully almost begins to doubt that their past innocence and their affair even happened -- everything from Before seems less real -- but they're like 'so, I guess we found a way to get over that habit, we're not going to risk that level of personal entanglement taking over everything and exploding the work again, we're not going back there and in fact it's better to pretend we never went there in the first place, the work trumps everything,' which is, of course, completely a unworkable long term plan given who they are and how they together, and given the fact that you can't just turn human emotions off at the switch.

(*disclaimer that if my sense of inspiration gets ornery, the fic that wins the poll might still not be the one I concentrate on first lol, but I do want to make an effort to focus where the potential reader interest is!)

Here is a nice ask: Why do you ship msr so much? How do you deal with the theme of guilt throughout their relationship?

Their guilt has much less to do with each other and everything to do with how they view themselves. Mulder thinks he’s a failed brother and a failed son and a failed father, Scully thinks she’s a failed mother and a failed daughter and a failed sister. Because they hold those views so deeply and can’t refute them because they don’t have the evidence—which is held by family members who they have broken relationships with or who are gone—those guilts fester.

The one guilt they both hold but can help each other with is feeling like a bad partner. Mulder will say that he needs to do more than pray at Scully’s bedside with Missy and then Scully will tell him that she got better on the strength of his beliefs. Scully will tell Mulder that she’s only ever held him back and he will tell her that by caring for him she taught him how to be a whole person and that her grounded nature is the perfect contrast to his... unmoored one.

Their love was born among the ashes of the relationships that came before, and they built each other up because they cared about each other that much, even when they were just friends. In a morbid way, the end of season nine makes sense, because their ultimate guilt is a tangled, conjoined failure as parents. And they run from it from motel to motel, hide from it in a sequestered house, afraid that this is the one thing that will undo them. Because, deep down, they know that they’re not really a failed child or sibling. But as parents, they were 100% responsible for William’s safety and happiness. A parent is the ultimate defender, the person a child is meant to be able to trust the most.

And they couldn’t do that, in their views. Even with the other guilts, they could at least tell each other with confidence that they weren’t failed siblings or failed children. But they can’t look each other in the eyes and say that they didn’t fail as parents. Even though they believe that of the other, they can’t even say it because it’ll just be a circle of trying to comfort the other while putting themselves down.

It becomes the new thing Mulder sacrifices himself on the blade of—pretending to be stoic as if it doesn’t eat him up inside. Scully tries to find absolution in her work as a pediatric doctor. I’m not surprised that they broke up in the Revival at all. I mean, there’s only so long you can go with not actually talking about it. And with colonization not happening, then all those things they suffered didn’t mean anything, and Mulder is all about justifying suffering—not sadistically, but as he asked Skinner when Scully was abducted in season two, if he knew the risks of the work and didn’t tell Scully, is he then responsible for what happened to her?

The short of it, though, is that they simply love each other so much that guilt can’t ruin that. It’s probably the one relationship guilt can’t ruin for them. Even with Skinner and Maggie, they were cut off from them, and I’m willing to bet that even when it was pretty safe (probably before Scully got her job or they got the house), they still didn’t get in contact. But they’re so obnoxious about being in love that they can’t bear to be apart. And they could never stand the other thinking that they didn’t want to be with them (“I wouldn’t change a day” & “Of course I was [being territorial]”).

The beauty of MSR is that the worse their guilt gets, the stronger their bond gets, because they lean on each other greatly—they trust each other immensely. They make each other happy because they’re in love. It’s a big ode to the fact that guilt doesn’t have to stop you from having meaningful relationships or being happy. You just learn to live with it and in spite of it.

Details about the 2023 Exchange Season!

After listening to all of your amazing feedback, I’ve solidified the schedule for next year!

I know that a lot of people like being surprised but since this is a chronologically themed event, you already knew haha. I know some people like planning/schedules, so this year you can just get the dates outright!

As per usual (though in this case aided by luck), in the busier months I’ve doubled up on themes that I anticipate might be less popular. And since we had a good time with the scattered dates, I brought them back to give each exchange time to shine.

The post-original series though pre-revival time might not have the best names. I tried to make them even content-wise 

Post original series to pre IWTB: included on the run, getting the house, etc 

 IWTB to pre-revival: the movie, 2012, breakup, etc

Also important to note: just because the exchanges are rooted in the timeline doesn’t mean all the stories next year have to be canon compliant. Feel free to prompt things that diverge from the canon (they just have to stem from the given exchange era). We love canon divergence

I hope you all are excited! I feel like this will be a great exchange year for all of us to try writing versions of MSR that maybe we usually avoid or haven’t tried yet. We’ll get to spend all year chronologically going through the show during the 30th anniversary!

don't mind me i'm just thinking about the x-files revival rn. i know a lot of people don't like it. and sometimes it was a bit terrible. but wasn't it also WONDERFUL ???

mulder and scully were so BACK. everything was just as chaotic and messy and nonsensical and incredible as it always was. we got romantic msr and insane angst and MOTWs and incomprehensible mytharc and. i am just so glad that it even happened at all. it was 2018 and we got to see fox and dana again ??? are you kidding me ??? if you told someone in 2002 that sixteen brand-new episodes were even on the cards they would have thought you were insane. but there we were. and there it was. and everything was just so so so special. 2016-2018 was such a WEIRD time. but it was made that slightly more bearable by the x-files being with us again. and i will always love it for that.
