[Brief] Thoughts on Film Theory's Analysis

I was gonna post this on my priv twt.. but moots convinced me to post it here so here we are.. beware of spoilers, gore, bla bla bla ..

FIRST OFF I'm gonna start by saying, I AM ESL. I may or may not have misinterpreted some of his words, but this is mainly how I thought of his analysis. This is not meant to be ill-guided or rude ! so sorry if it comes off as this way. I will be very repetitive.

Another thing, most if not all of the information matpat gave out i alr discussed with a few mutuals on discord about a few months back so this is not new territory to me 😭😭 I thought most folks would already knew the concept of how the brain deteriorates overtime But honestly, that indisposition shouldn’t even apply to omni man??? matpat tried to compare an immortal Viltrumite's psychology to that of an aging human's, which can be misguided.

Let's start by how he compares Nolan's brain to the average aging human's brain so the audience could understand his psyche more and how empathy declines overtime. First and foremost, Nolan is not a human, second; Nolan wasn't raised with empathy or around an empathetic environment - it was an alien concept to his race. Something frowned upon. He was raised from birth to conquer and destroy without remorse. His brain never developed those neural pathways for empathy in the first place. It's not that they deteriorated over time, they were never even formed.

By the time he came to Earth, all this familial stuff was new to him. Sure, he knew he was gonna outlive them, but He didn't think he'd get attached. HE didn't process that he'd grieve over them when the time came.

Interacting with humanity for the first time ignited unfamiliar emotions in Nolan that he didn’t know how to process.

His time living amongst humans caused conflicting feelings he’d never experienced in his centuries of systematic slaughter. Loving Debbie and Mark went against everything he was taught, but he couldn't help it. For once, the lives he was manipulating to further Viltrum’s goals meant something to him. He developed a [what he presumed, NOT what he felt about them in reality, his love for them is far more profound than he assumed it to be which we later on see in the last ep of s1 and the second season] petty facsimile of love for his ersatz family.

So no, his capacity for empathy didn't decline with age as MatPat claims. His empathy was stunted from the start. An underdeveloped skill, not a deteriorated one. We had characters like Debbie to help him understand those notions, help him grow it. With Mark in the mix? it only amplified that development.

Viltrumites are societally and culturally predisposed to violence and domination. Nolan was never accustomed to forming emotional connections or grieving loss. Those were entirely new experiences for him after arriving on Earth. He was not jaded. he was grown into jamais vu in viltrum.

This is why the whole conflict in s1 happened, he was treading between double lives he wasn't sure of. He was conflicted because his past values were refuting with his new experiences. He found love on Earth, he found himself unable to accept how he'd lose Debbie. Of How jaded Mark might become. Everything he said to Mark till that point was his own self-projections, his own fears, doubts.

While the video did provide some interesting facts about neuroscience and aging, the application of those facts to Nolan's character was inaccurate. IT is educational for those who don't know, but it isn't recent news that the brain begins to deteriorate overtime so this video wasn't that informative which kinda disappointed me. Their analysis lacked alot of information about the Viltrumite race and Nolan's character. Comparing him to humans with normal life experiences just doesn't work. His immortal nature combined with a lack of empathy from birth created a psychology unlike anything seen on Earth.

SORRY FOR RANTING ALOT AND OR IF IT SEEMS LIKE I'M GIVING MATPAT SHIT ... i really liked their analysis on immortal so i'll give them that. Immortal, unlike Nolan, was born human. He has lived among humanity for over 3000 years, inhabiting different identities of public and devoted historians. Because of this, his psyche developed quite differently. Immortal knows how to form connections, experience loss, and adapt to social changes. His perpetual existence didn't harden his heart like Viltrum's brutal culture did to Nolan. Instead, Immortal's immortality allowed his empathy and compassion to blossom.

Humans are social creatures. Our brains have evolved to seek out interpersonal relationships, crave affection, and find meaning in community. For an immortal like Immortal, social interaction is vital to staving off boredom, depression and detachment from humanity.

By inhabiting mortal lives, he stays tethered to the human experience. He continues learning, growing, and developing empathy.

This is why he's devastated when the guardians die.

This is also why he goes fucking mental and tries to kill Omni-man.

If Immortal had lived in isolation all this time, unable to connect with people, his psyche would likely resemble Nolan's more closely. Without social interaction, Immortal's brain would atrophy in ways that preclude complex emotions and moral reasoning. His sense of purpose would fade, achievements would lose meaning, and life itself might feel pointless. By engaging with humanity, Immortal gives his endless existence purpose and direction. He finds value in each temporary life, so loss still impacts him deeply. Socializing keeps his emotions and cognition flexible, which prevents the apathy and hardness of heart seen in Nolan. Nolan never had these opportunities in his early years, this is why it's more difficult for him to stray away from his indoctrination. It's that he's unused to it, underdeveloped.

60 years to Nolan would've been a year and a half, so what's 20 measly years on Earth for him? Yes, he found profound connections in that little speck of time, but Immortal's emotional capacity is far more extensive.

In summary, Comparing Nolan to a human, whether mortal or immortal, is kinda inaccurate. His Viltrumite psyche rules out him from possessing JADED human qualities. You could say he's desensitized to violence sure, but no.. unfortunately.. he does not have [boomer] brain. He has [indoctrinated alien-fascist brain]

Little Mizzy Muffet and the Spider King - By Catfish (8.5/10)

Classic nursery rhymes and horror fit together very nicely. Every time I read another chapter of this I get another pleasant surprise. It's available for free on Line Webtoon under the Canvas amateur comic section. I think that's a shame, because this is miles better than alot of the featured comics.

I'm not going to beat around the bush. The Spider King's design slaps. He looks awesome. He's epic. Every scene he's in becomes more serious and important as soon as he shows up. Half of the commenters in the comment section are thirsty teenagers who want to be kidnapped by him. He's a powerful force that doesn't want to hurt anyone, but his existence causes problems for the weak humans around him. Including the protagonist, who he wants to marry. He doesn't work for free, and Mizzy is a kind girl. So, when her friends get in trouble she feels tempted to use him. Even though his services come with a very high price.

The Spider King wants to marry Mizzy even though she doesn't know who he is. He literally appears in her bedroom with an army of spiders and says she doesn't have a choice. He's willing to wait and do favors for her, but that is it. She is going to the demon realm with him, no matter what.

He's not a nice guy. He's just not the kind of demon that enjoys killing. He gives her three wishes to gain her approval and maybe her trust. He isn't giving them out of the goodness of his heart. His motivation is entirely selfish and he doesn't care about anybody but Mizzy. He also watches her all the time. His spiders work like spy cameras. She can't run or hide.

The other characters are cool too. All of them are connected to old nursery rhymes and that theme gets dark fast. Do not read this unless you can handle horror, bullying and suicide. One of Mizzy's closest friends dies right away. His name is Humphrey. He's fat and smart and he's got no confidence. Mizzy watches him fall into despair.

She starts to see things. Negative emotions are visible when you use demon magic. Humphrey is Humpty Dumpty metaphorically. After years of bullying he decides to end his life. He jumps off the school rooftop. Everybody in Mizzy's friend group feels guilty, because they tried to save him, but their words didn't reach him.

She noticed something was very wrong. She was there when he died. Everyone tried to stop him on the rooftop that day. She's in shambles, and then the Spider King makes everything a thousand times worse. She asks him the ultimate question. He says yes. One of her three wishes could have easily saved Humphrey. This conversation defines the rest of the story. Mizzy meets plenty of troubled kids in high school. She actually lost her parents and got adopted, so seeing kids like her suffer really affects her.

The Spider King does have feelings for her, but he doesn't understand her. His wish gifts are a guilt laden curse. In the beginning I didn't think he was making her suffer on purpose, but I'm not sure anymore. The Spider King is fairly robotic, and overly honest, but there are too many hints and hidden meanings in his words. He is not human. The way he behaves makes that crystal clear. When more demons appear in town he doesn't lift a finger. He's only willing to protect Mizzy. She will have to use her precious limited supply of wishes to protect her hometown.

The author has hinted that the spider demon has a monster form. His handsome human face is not his real body. Spiders crawl out of his eyes sometimes. He doesn't show his emotions. He gives Mizzy power and he never forces her to use the wishes. The crushing weight of that power starts to really affect her psychologically. When another friend of hers starts rebelling because of problems at home she knows why. When her friends feel insecure she knows. She's empathetic, unlike the Spider King, so seeing these things drains her.

She wants to help, but she doesn't want to get married.

Mizzy is cute. She's compassionate. She's popular. She has a good life and a loving family. The Spider King might actually be the villain by the end, not the main love interest. He is not giving her a choice. After the last wish she has to go with him, and she won't be able to ignore the suffering people around her forever. The Spider King is like every good nursery rhyme villain. He doesn't force our protagonist to take action. He tempts her and guides her towards an interesting and dangerous path. One that she doesn't even want. One that she feels obligated to follow.

Sadly this series is in black and white, even though it looks much better in color. That is its biggest flaw.

Often the peculiarity of this man is just a mystery. You won't learn much about him right away. Or you hardly ever find out. He is so calm that he does not show much emotion. The only thing that can prove a little more is just irritation. But even that sometimes looks different than usual. Sometimes it is more visible and sometimes less.

He watches more and doesn't act right away. He couldn't do anything sloppy and also without thinking. Also, he will not interfere if he sees that someone does not need it.

But when he sees that someone is not coping with something, and that person is a closer person to him (e.g. a friend or partner), he will immediately be able to approach and ask if he is to help. He understands if he hears that he does not have to help. If it is a friend whom he does not need to help, he will leave. But the closest person will insist that you help. I don't want anyone to get overworked. Or that someone would be desperate and would do anything to finish it. He's a bit of an idealist, so to ease someone's work and also make it well finished, it will help.

He is honest that it hurts some people. All you have to do is piss him off once, and he will rebuke it to the end. Or someone will approach him once on other than friendly terms. When people ask their friends what they think about something, they reply as they think they are, but they don't want to hurt another person. Unlike Nanami, who will say what he thinks right away. He honestly confesses who he likes and who he doesn't. And also honestly tells his opinion.

He has no big family, and this is generally not the case. His immediate family member lives in another country. However, he knows how to deal with people closer than friends. He hasn't forgotten how to behave yet.

It may seem different, but he is a man to talk to. You start a topic and he can answer his own. Sometimes he doesn't talk and sometimes he does. It also depends on which person you are exchanging sentences with.

Looks like he doesn't care if he has any friends. But living in complete solitude is also not ideal for him. In complete peace and quiet, as well as isolation, you can go crazy faster than in chaos. It can even happen to him.

For such a person, he is very understanding and able to accept most human qualities. If, of course, he wants to keep in touch with him.

He will definitely not give his hard-earned money to just anyone. He is very stubborn about what he thinks, and you can't say anything else because he just doesn't want to hear it. And also when he says something, and it turns out that someone has not listened to him, there is no chance that he will repeat it. And when he says something important and is not listened to, he gets irritated easily and may not care what he tells others. After all, he wants good for them and nobody listens to him.

• He knows being intimidating. He intimidates people with its appearance and stoic behavior. When he is standing next to you, or when you walk together, he can become connected into something that just keeps people from going like this. You could then be alone in your space.

• When he somehow pisses you off (if that happens because his manners make him apologize and ask instead of pissing people off) he'll be quiet. He will understand your mistake and he will only reassure you and keep repeating that he understands his mistake. Just as you cannot be angry with him for long because he is so apologetic and repentant, so he cannot be angry with you. If he loses you, no one else will live with him. And I don't want to lose you.

• If you agree to become his family, it will be the same for you. You will be even closer as your relationship is closer.

• He knows the human psyche. But he will never want to help people with their mental problems. He cannot bear someone else's problems and also his own. If you help him with his temporary aversion to such a life, he will be very grateful to you and will try to make your life easier and also make you happy. In some moments, it will try to illuminate the darkness you like. At least for a while. But he sees no problem with you like it.

• At home, he always lets you play your music. It accompanies every activity you do. It is played in the background whenever it can, and no one is bothered by it. It's not too loud. Besides, he doesn't mind any type of music. The only thing is that it does not upset anyone

• Fight him as much as you want. However, he is stronger than you physically. You cannot miss his muscles which he only worked on to be a strong sorcerer. He just loves it. There is nothing sweeter than you. It is enough that he is with you and no one else.

• If you like to look beautiful, especially to him, let him give you gifts that you love. you love, buy you whatever you ask for. He will not buy blindly. He prefers to buy gifts for you after finding out exactly what you like and what you would like. But he has a good intuition about buying surprises anyway.

I tried to step inside HC's energy today. I don't have a ton of experience with this but was curious enough to try. I got a splitting headache almost instantly (which also went away immediately afterwards, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't me). I also felt a lot of bottled up rage, to the point where it scared me a bit. I never felt that he had the urge to hurt anyone, just that he wanted to scream but didn't have the energy to. And I felt pain, like the visceral sort that's caused by grief. I was expecting to feel sadness after reading your posts, but this felt different to me. I also felt that he is tired, like you did.

I also pulled some tarot cards to ask about his current situation, and without hijacking your blog with a crazy long post, I got that he is having his energy and power drained by current burdens or people in his life, that someone close to him is trying to deceive him, and that he will need to make some sort of choice to get un-stuck, so to speak. I asked what he needs to do to find his divine counterpart, and I again pulled cards about a choice. Some sort of transformation is needed to embark on a new beginning, which will be part of his healing journey. And that while on this journey, he will meet his divine counterpart who will help complete the healing process for him. The choice to embark on this journey of self-healing seemed to be a required step for them to meet.

Anyway, just thought I'd share in case you or anyone else is interested. I do believe that he needs to take responsibility for his actions, but I also have a bit more compassion for him now because he seems to feel very lost and deflated, like he knows he got off track somewhere but he doesn't know how to fix it. I was exhausted after spending less than an hour in his energy, so I can't imagine being in that state 24/7. And I'm sure living under a microscope isn't helping anything. I hope he can get the help he needs.

Very interesting, I have yet to do HC on his own (not relating to NV or his family) so maybe I’ll add that one to my list too. It would make sense that there is some anger there, he’s living a life that he didn’t expect for himself. I have the feeling he was expecting or wanting to be one of the most renowned actors by now. Also he’s clearly been taught to hide emotions as much as he’s said before that he knows how to control them. Horseshit, he knows how to shove them deep down. That’s a class English culture thing as much as a family issue. But I’m not about to do a family constellation for the guy. I can tell just by the first one that theres a lot of work there. I think you’re spot on :)

For tarots absolutely 100% energy vampires around him. Honestly I believe it’s Dany more than NV, but NV is more than likely attributing to it. I also feel there are some friends and members of family that are apart of that. His career as a whole sucks him dry too.

That’s great that he finds someone to help him out, hopefully he can do so without sucking them dry as well. If you’ve been in a relationship with people who haven’t done their work and are codependent which I truly believe he is, that divine counterpart is gonna have to be the strength for them both to get through that, otherwise he’ll destroy her. Usually with divine counterparts there is ALOT of pain to overcome. I’m glad that’s coming for him, but I hope it works out in the best way possible.

I also used to absolutely hate that guys guts I thought he was so fucking pretencious and narcissistic, but after stepping into his energy and learning more about psychology and generational trauma, there is certain compassion for what he’s going through. And I do understand him as a human a bit better. However I still fully believe that a 40 year old not taking steps towards healing however small is at this point on him. He needs to be doing what he can to help himself, no one can do the work for him. And it’s all well and good to have empathy, but I feel that when we do so we also excuse the fact that everyone needs to take responsibility for themselves and their healing too.

So yes, compassion for what he’s been through/stuck in, but don’t take on that energy for him, he needs to be in it and learn from it. That’s one of the best lessons you learn from any kind of energy work, is never to take the energy for people, you can sympathise, but you also need to maintain enough distance to let them know you are not their support. They are.
