Stan In Time Shenanigans: Part 3
Ok,they've FINALLY finished beating up that octopus. Let's see how they got on:
Stan: *him and ford both walk in looking like a mess* WOO! hey, you didn't lose an eye out there, did ya?
Ford: No, did you lose that stupid mullet? *they pause, the laugh a bit*
YStan: IT'S GETTING HOT UNDER THE SOFA! CAN WE COME OUT YET?
Ford: oh yeah. Ahem, yes yes: you can come out...
*the boys come out and stretch, then sit on the sofa*
YFord: we were just thinking about some questions we can ask you...like-
YStan: *pushes Young ford's face* HAVE YOU BEEN SAILING FOR YOUR WHOLE LIVES?
*the older twins give each other a look then sit down know the sofa*
Ford: look...a lot has happened...especially in the last 30 years...
YFord: 30 years? How old even are you guys?!
Stan: about 58. Pretty old eh?
Ford: look, we...well what happened...between us...was-
Stan: *pushes ford's face* uhhh WE finished the stan o war! Y-yeah and we decided to travel the world!
*ford gives him a "what the hell did you just do" look*
Both young twins: *gasps* WOOOW!!!!
Yford: where did you go first?
YStan: what did ma and pa say?
YFord: did you get into any fights?
YStan: did you sing sea shanties?
YFord: DID YOU GET BABES: YES OR NO.
Ford: Hold on! Hold on! I've got to get my journal, to write this down. Stanley, answer the questions... *gets up and looks for journal*
Stan: Oh, um ok *claps hands* so...first we took a trip to florida, ma was thrilled and pa was angry due to pointdexter "wasting his talent", yes, hundreds of fights, only very few were between ourselves, and finally, no we don't sing: We both suck at singing since our voices are kinda rough. And babe's, many have come and gone.
Ford: I'm back! Did you get the answers you wanted? *pulls out a red journal with a golden six fingered hand on the front, with a huge 4 written on it*
YFord: whoa, neat journal you got there! *looks closer* "4"? You made 3 others?! 3 whole books?!?!
YStan: that's a lot of diarys! We don't even read books that thick! Can I-
Ford: *pulls the journal back* nope. This is a highly confidential journal, not a diary. You cannot look inside ANY of them, you hear me?
YTwins: BUT-
Stan: Hey! No buts, kiddos! We set a course for land now, we'll reach the docks by tomorrow. For now just, relax.
YFord: oh..ok..sigh...*begins chatting to ford*
YStan: hmmm....ah! *whispers to stan*
Stan: *whispering* ok..I get your jist..hehe...*to ford* eh sixer! Got something for ya!
Ford: *looks up a tiny tiny bit* yeah, sta-
Stan: *flicks ford's nose* PSYCHE!
Ford: *covers his face* WHAT THE HECK
*while the stan laughs and ford has his face covered, the young twins run outside*
Ford: i was writing! Why even? And did you tell them-
Stan: hehe, relax, i lied to them, ya know, like i do. And the little stinker wanted me to try something out- *silence* where-
YTwins, from outisde: WOW!
Older twins: NOOOO!!! *run outside, then quiet down*
YFord: *sniffles* look, look at this, bro!
YStan: *sobs* it's beautiful! We really did make it!
YFord: yeah *tears up a bit* I hope we live on to do great things.
YStan: and that we make so many other people...h-happy! *begins crying*
YFord: ya know, usually I would tell you to man up....b-but this time THERE'S NO MEN *begins crying really hard*
Older twins: *breathe in* oooooooo...*walks over to the kids*
Stan: there there...me (what) we did amazing...
YStan: YOU SURE DID *crrrieeess even more*
Ford: just calm down, we'll take you inside later...
YFord: o-ok *sniffles* it's just so crazy that you made it this far! With barely any issues! *sniffles*
Ford: y-yeah...barely...
-
Aww so sweet! Well! Let's let them look at that beautiful sunset, then we'll get to see what happens next! Ahem:
WILL THEY REACH THE PORT SAFELY? CAN THE BOYS KEEP THEIR HANDS AWAY FROM THE TRUTH? WILL STAN FINALLY BE ABLE TO SCRATCH THAT ONE AREA THAT HE CAN NEVER GET TO? WAS THAT QUESTION NECESSARY? FIND OUT NEXT TIME ON...

Roadtrip Shenanigans Part 3!
Guess who still had too many headcanons to put in that second post? Me and @garrulousgibberish that’s who! I think this might just be a singalong post haha! If so - there’s still more headcanons to come!
- Singing. FAMILY SING SONGS. You can’t convince me otherwise what with sea shanties and harmonicas and all the other good happy music that we’ve thrown at the Pines family. (We just want them happy and excited and- shhh). OK so as per Ran’s amazing drawing above. Stan and Ford will sing sea shanties all day long if you let them, as if they’re still walking through a small fishing town and joining in the raucous there. Usually one of them will start and the other will end up tapping along with it as they drive but it doesn’t take long before they’re belting it out together. This might be very deliberate - Ford’s found that humming to himself is one way to stop Stan being distracting or distracted while driving. Or it might be Stan who’s trying to see how long it’ll take for Ford to cave when he’s trying to do something important.
It takes a while for the kids to join in on a few of them, unless they’re ones the Stan’s have already taught them, then they’re clamoring about to sing along. It’s probably similar when the kids start singing a song that the older pair aren’t familiar with and it takes a while for them to catch the lyrics enough to join in. (Depending how much they like the tune and how quickly though they’ll probably end up humming along anyway and if it’s catchy get irritated that only a portion is stuck in their head on repeat for awhile).
Other times it’s not all of them singing though. After all Stan is horrified when Dipper and Ford get hooked on a new pop song together, one of the ones on the radio so many times when it first comes out you’re sick of it within a few days. Unless you’re Ford and Dipper - then you just sing along every time it comes on. Every. Time.  Mabel is delighted- Stan not so much.
Mabel and Stan are a force to be reckoned with when they sing. Usually their singalongs start from accidental song lyrics in conversations. ”How far are we from the next stop, sweetie?” ”Uhm... Looks like we’re halfway there.” ”Ohh~ Living on a prayer~” Usually their singalongs are dramatic renditions. ”Take my hand and we’ll make it I swear~” ”Stan! Hands on the wheel!!!” They just have to make sure Ford doesn’t catch them if they’re meant to be doing something important.
There are times when there aren’t singalongs though. When the family just sits and listens to one family member who probably hasn’t even noticed that no ones joining in - too engrossed in the song. With Ford it’s songs from the other side of the portal. Maybe a song on the radio reminds him, a familiar tune or hum that morphs into a completely different song that he doesn’t even realise never came out in this dimension. It’s usually while he’s doing something, not really paying attention and the words just bubble out, lyrics that stuck with him, or songs that were big and hold good memories when he heard them - different times when he’d finally been able to stop and relax even if only for a little while. The others just sit and listen. If Ford only knew that the quietest the family got were when they were listening to him like this. Maybe then he’d know how to distract them more effectively but that wasn’t the point. The point was that the others liked it when he was doing it just for himself. It was nice to hear about something from the other side and know from Ford’s wistful happy smile that a good memory accompanied it for once.
Then there’s Stan. He doesn’t sing all that often on his own but sometimes an old song will come on the radio or he’ll hear a lyric in someone else’s voice and out roars an old rock classic that refused to stay down. Songs that he would have heard on the radio years and years ago when he just had his car and the open road ahead of him. He probably associates a few of the songs with some daredevil escapes - him and that car have lived quite the life together. If it’s a song on the radio and Stan knows all the words instantly the others pause to grin, it’s rare that Stan get’s so into a song that he belts it out without a care. Or at least rare against the rest of them. The first time it happened was probably the most shocking for them! Only problem is the times when Stan sings lyrics because of them. Because he forgets that Ford wouldn’t know the songs all that well, if at all, if they came out after he fell through the portal and the kids sometimes only really know the choruses if that. He’s sometimes lucky if they’re on Mabel’s karaoke machine but other times he is affronted that his family do not know the songs. Though Mabel does love how his eyes light up if at first they don’t know the verses but join in on the chorus when they do recognise the song.  But it still gets to him and he finds a radio station that only plays older songs and spends the day ‘teaching’ them songs he thinks they should just know. Every song that comes on he seems to know all the lyrics to though so every song is important and must be taught. (Ford doesn’t tire of the way Stan beams as every song starts with a ‘Oh! I love this one!’) Sometimes they’ll just pretend not to know though - just because it’s so fun watching Stan getting really into the song and forgetting that anyone else is around him.
In the same vein though - once or twice whilst he’s teaching, an even older song will come on the radio. One both older twins know and gets them all nostalgic and singing along. The kinds of songs their Ma used to like listening to and would be heard throughout the house when they were kids. And when the kids sit bemused and kind of swaying along there is a consensus between Stan and Ford that nope you guys need to know one of Ma’s favourites. Can’t have that.
(Offtopic but not: Ford and the kids singing Lollipop by the Chordettes. Just Ran threw that at me so I’m throwing it at all of you too cause ♥)
Lastly - because me and Ran were looking up 2013 songs. There’s a new song all four of them agree on and fall in love with. It gets sung every time it comes on the radio:  Hey, brother, there’s an endless road to re-discover. Hey, sister, do you still believe in love, I wonder? Oh, if the sky comes falling down for you, There’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do.
