maybe home is a place, and people, and a time, and a thing.

home is where i go at the end of every day and i do my homework and i think and i talk and i breathe. it's where i spend hours every day at school just because i love it there and not because i have to. its where i go after school and i sit and spend time with people who are kind and we do hard work but it doesn't even feel like it sometimes. it's the field at sunset with taylor swift playing in the background and it's the dark warm pool that smells too strongly of chlorine. home is a place.

home is who i go to in the mornings, when i sit quietly alone on my couch, and they come in and they talk to me because they love me. home is who i hold hands with in the middle of english class because we can. home is halfway across the ocean in a town i've never been to, but we talk almost every day and we'll get boba next time she's around. home is the team on the field, in the pool, in the theater, on the court. home is people.

home is 9:30 pm on a saturday when my family is asleep and i sit on the couch and watch my silly little shows. home is 11:30 pm on a school night with blankets piled over my arms. home is 10 am on a saturday in the passenger car seat, unhealthy drink in hand, and maybe. home is a time.

home is a circle of people eating pizza, not just one circle but two, three, and their faces are different and i remember them clearly. home is running around in the rain, volleyball in hand, and for one second all our problems were solved, evaporated, like the droplets hitting the pavement, soaking into our skin. home is posing for pictures, our happiness immortalized in images, and who knows if we'll even remember today or tomorrow or next week or next year but for that moment we were home. home is making memories and. home is a thing.
