There really could never have been a better phrase for sanctuary then "linger a while thou art so fair!" it encapsulates Wataei so well oh it fits like a house on fire. And it really hits different when you understand the original german because every english translation I have seen translates it like "When I say to the moment flying / Linger a while thou art so fair / then bind me in thy bonds undying / and my final ruin I shall bear!" and that just really doesn't hit the same as "Werd ich zum Augenblicke sagen / "Verweile doch! Du bist so schön" / Dann magst du mich in Fesseln schlagen / Dann will ich gern zugrunde gehn!" It just really doesn't have the same vigor to it there's something missing especially in the last line the rest is fine actually but "and my final ruin I shall bear" sounds so resigned so accepting but in a sober way like it's a consequence to those actions it's so matter-of-factly and I think the "gern" just makes a lot of difference there because the german original has more passion behind it it's the same accepting of consequence but it's different and the verse before that too "dann magst du mich" feels like it's giving explicit permission it doesn't sound as sober as the english either it's. I really can't explain it. but it fits wataei so well because Eichi would also be fully on board with letting Wataru lead him into ruin oh and it is so good

I remembered another interesting thing, so.

Here's how other characters of the game describe Sakuma Rei in the plot and events (well, the ones I remembered):

Hokuto Hidaka said that next to him, he involuntarily relaxes and trusts him, because Rei reminds him of his grandmother (it's both cute and funny heheh)

Midori Takamine mentioned that in the presence of Rei, he feels calmer than usual, and "I have high hopes for you" from Rei does not make Midori feel burdened, but, on the contrary, inspired.

Ogami Koga (do I even need to talk about him lol) considers Rei his main role model, Koga has literally partially adopted his old manner of speech and behavior, carries with him a guitar that Rei gave him once (and will protect it with his life). Despite the disappointment that Koga felt when he saw exhausted Rei in the third year (it was not disappointment, but concern, in fact), he still admires him and looks up to him. And Koga is also afraid of Rei, when Rei in anger. For the most part, none of this was said out loud, but the most important and only idol for Koga is Rei and it will always be so.

Kaoru Hakaze calls Rei strangely helpless in everyday life (and he's right!), but, in addition, he once expressed his concern about the fact that Rei seems to be wasting his limitless abilities to work as an idol, although he could work in absolutely any field and achieve great success everywhere.

Adonis Otogari deeply respects Rei, although he finds that he sometimes does very strange things. Adonis is also grateful to Rei for taking care of him when he was forced to change his place of residence, as well as for the fact that Rei explained many things to him, helped him with the flight, with adaptation to a new place and did not leave him alone.

Aoi twins are very grateful to Rei for staying by their side during their most difficult times and, always smiling, allowing them to be in the music club without demanding anything in return. And Yuta also uses Rei as a reference to describe a "cool" person.

Hibiki Wataru considers Rei his best friend (i'm crying, platonic WataRei rule the world) and deeply admires his abilities. He also resented (jokingly) Rei for always being kind of easy on their competitions, because he often won.

During the War, Eichi Tenshouin said that Rei loves people too much, that he would be "poisoned and killed by love", trying to please and help all the people around. Hasumi Keito described Rei as a very charming and beautiful boy (as a child), whose intelligence was able to make adults trust him, that he could easily and easily refute and explain any idea or assumption as if he had known about it for a very long time. Wataru admitting that he's bad with his emotions and often doesn't know how he's feeling. "HIMEMIYA TORI-KUN" INSTEAD OF HIMEGIMI.

(*): The japanese onomatopoeia for "staaaare", when a character is staring intently at another, like they have something to say.

(**): This is a dish where there's rice with a sauce containing beef and a few vegetables are poured on top.

TL Note: I'm sorry if the HiMERU dialogue sounded stiff :’) This was my first time trying my hand at tling a HiMERU centered story it was hard for tense/perspective understanding but overall good practice :3

Happy Pride Month everyone! As promised, here is our first queer manga rec of the month:

My Love Mix-Up!, by Hinekure Wataru & Aruko (illustrations)

Original title: Kieta Hatsukoi / 消えた初恋

Aoki is in love with Hashimoto, his desk neighbor. But one day, when he borrows her ereaser, he discovers that her heart belongs to another: the handsome Ida, who sits right in front of him. He is so disappointed that he doesn't realize that the ereaser fell and that his alleged rival in love is picking it up... It's the start of an enormous misunderstanding that could very well turn into the most beautiful love story!

This... THIS is a love triangle just how we like them. Also, can we give the Dumbass Bisexual of the Year Award to Aoki, plz? He deserves it and that's a compliment. I love him whith my whole being, okay?

I absolutely adored this title, Hashimoto, who is kind of our only female character, isn't just a numbskull whose only purpose is helping further Aoki and Ida's love story, she's a true friend to Aoki, has her own love story and a pretty cool character evolution. I'm pretty sure that Ida is on the aroace spectrum given some of his dialogue, and even if it's not explicitly stated, it still feels good.

We're in a manga that really sticks to the codes of classic shōjo manga, the only difference is that the main love story is about two boys. There isn't a strong focus on homophobia either, we only have a few tense moments when they think about revealing their relationship, I thought it was really soft. Sometimes it feels good to read something where bigotry isn't one of the main themes

Aoki est amoureux de Hashimoto, sa voisine de classe. Mais un jour, en lui empruntant sa gomme, il découvre avec horreur que l'élue de son cœur en aime un autre : le beau Ida, qui est assis juste devant lui. L'adolescent est tellement déçu qu'il ne réalise pas qu'il a fait tomber la gomme de sa camarade et que son supposé rival en amour est en train de la ramasser... C'est le début d'un énorme malentendu qui pourrait bien aboutir à la plus belle des histoires d'amour !

Ça... ÇA c'est le genre de triangle amoureux qu'on aime. Aussi, est-ce qu'on peut attribuer le titre de Dumbass Bisexual of the Year à Aoki svp ? Il le mérite amplement et c'est un compliment. Je l'aime d'amour, d'accord ?

J'ai vraiment adoré ce titre, Hashimoto qui est un peu notre seul personnage féminin, n'est pas juste une nunuche qui ne sert qu'à faire avancer l'intrigue amoureuse entre Aoki et Ida, elle est une véritable amie pour Aoki et a sa propre histoire d'amour et une évolution plutôt cool. Je soupçonne fortement Ida d'être sur le spectre aroace au vu de certains dialogues, et même si c'est pas dit de manière explicite, fait quand même du bien

On est vraiment dans un manga qui respecte les codes classiques du shōjo, la seule différence c'est que l'histoire d'amour principale est entre deux garçons. On a pas non plus un gros focus sur l'homophobie, juste quelques moments d'inquiétude à l'idée de révéler leur relation, j'ai trouvé ça très doux. Des fois ça fait du bien de lire des titres où l'intolérance n'est pas un des thèmes principaux
