#i've been thinking of it ever since i saw that les mis one
Text
Hello guys guess what I (finally) saw Les Mis on the west end today so I need somewhere to rant about it bear with me here
(under the cut because 1- spoilers and 2- I have no idea how long this is going to be)
First of all just a small disclaimer : I am not in any part of this trying to be like "A was better than B in this role " or whatever it's just me being happy I got to see this show :)
Just hearing the opening live for the first time was amazing. Same goes for the whole show obv but this opening is the best
Also I did not know there were changing backgrounds this was so cool I really liked them
And the whole stage was super impressive I didn't expect everything to be that big it was amazing
Valjean was so good ??? I really liked his acting and his voice is actually incredible. Especially for Bring him home, I think it was one of my favorite versions of this song he has a really intense voice
Javert was incredible as well- I believe it was Stewart Clarke ? Point is he was a very good Javert I love him in this role
Anyway both of them have amazing voices so the Confrontation was very intense (or maybe it's just because it was the first time I saw it live ig)
Moving on but um. Lucie jones ??? Fantine ??? Like ma'am. Please. Your voice.
Literally I dreamed a dream ? So good. Made me tear up. If I am being honest I never cared for this song a lot but I can't even begin to explain how much I loved it here
Anyway she was definitely one of my favorite highlights of the show like yes queen
Also the factory scene was pretty great because I could finally know what was being said in the background- shoutout to whoever says "you bitch" to Fantine because I was not ready for that and the delivery was perfect
MADAME THÉNARDIER WAS AMAZING THANK YOU
Just- her mocking Cosette and her husband, the way she screams "COSETTE" when Thénardier messes up the name... Everything about her was so enjoyable I loved her
+ gotta love Thenardier just for the way he was sleeping and his head shot up when Valjean mentionned money for the first time
Also for being so funny in that moment after look down when Javert just comes to arrest them and he does his whole "may I go" act and then goes back to the policeman previously holding him and places the baton back on his neck I loved that for him
Anyway moving on to my favorite characters ever- tho actually I wasn't expecting to enjoy the beginning of the show that much but hey I did
Okay so Marius right ? If I'm being honest I had doubts about him, mostly because Ropert tripolino looked so much like a grantaire to me so I had a hard time picturing him as Marius but he was great
Very good at playing the part of the lovedstruck dumbass. Which is all it takes for me to like a Marius actually
No but also I loved his voice, maybe a bit shaky but it didn't strike me and I think it fit marius's character well so + it mixes really well with those of both Cosette and Eponine so that was cool, tho sometimes he was a bit drowned out by both of their voices but still.
The Gavroche actor was incredibly cute and funny I loved him so much- his mimicking javert was everything he is the best and must be protected at all cost
I'm doing this in no specific order so might come back to other things but I have said it before and will say it again... I don't like that little dance in one day more. It just kind of kills the vibe in my opinion because I find the dance rather funny but yeah
Anyway just because I have been dying to talk about him and he's all I've been thinking about for the past hours- shoutout to whoever was playing Grantaire. Like really. It was a cover so not sure who it was since I failed to look at the cast list (I wanna say ollie wray but I might be wrong) but oh my god. Sir. He ate it.
Everything about him was so great- I'll come back to him later just to pretend I'm keeping an order here (spoiler : I am not) but his part in Red and Black was incredibly funny it was just grantaire messing around and annoying Enjolras and I love that for him
Talking about Enjolras he was really good actually. I always have a moment of confusion when I see a brunette Enjolras just because I am not used to it but once I could actually focus on him he was very enjoyable
HAVE I TALKED ABOUT EPONINE YET BECAUSE I WANT TO TALK ABOUT EPONINE
She is. Really bitter I want to say. Like my brain isn't braining rn so I don't have words but she was rather sarcastic in a sad way. If that even makes sense. Anyway this attitude was great I loved everything about her
The whole part with Marius asking her for Cosette's adress just showed this and I really liked their dynamic it was exactly how I always imagined them to interact. Like Eponine obviously not being excited by this and Marius just blatantly missing every single cue
Point is I loved both of them
Okay just before I move on to the barricade's part which is all I wanna talk about, I am in love with this Cosette. That's it that's the post but lulu-mae has a beautiful voice, which again mixes really well with that of marius
Oh and also Marius trying to find a way to climb over the fence will never not be funny he's such an idiot I love him
Cue Eponine basically having to protect him while dealing with her own existential crisis- queen
ANYWAY
Actually moving on because this is getting long and I suck at ordering those notes but still
Firstly. Eponine singing On my own. I am actually not okay. She has such an amazing voice oml ??? 10/10 song I love her so much she made me tear up it was the best thing ever
So the barricade scenes
This is actually mostly me ranting about Grantaire and Gavroche because I literally missed a solid part of the barricade moment due to focusing on them
In my defense they were incredibly cute okay ? It's just the way Grantaire looks out for Gavroche and cares for him
And I love them so much I swear
Just two things before I just go on a full rant about them
1- A little fall of rain ?? Just Nathania Ong slaying all over again this was the saddest thing I heard her voice is just the best here
On the over hand this was one of the moment when Roberts voice seemed very much drowned out by hers but. She still carried the song. So it was very cool.
2- drink with me was so sad as well. Mostly because of grantaire. Again. Also I think it's always sad but seeing it live just made it worse- anyway it's just the way grantaire comes to feuilly's face to sing his verse. The way enjolras hugs him very tight when he's done. The way grantaire just pushes him away angrily and goes to stand in a corner. I am actually not okay about this
Also when Grantaire goes stand in a corner Gavroche comes to hug him from behind and he turns around to hug him back and that's basically where I lost it. Everyone was hugging all around but I was just looking at them because they were so cute okay bye
Sidenote but I still don't understand why the musical made Courfeyrac so angry and agressive- like the whole thing with Javert is kinda weird to me ? "Kill the bastard" is a good moment still just his cheering thing or whatever when valjean comes back- I am sorry but Courfeyrac would not do that like ever
Okay I already talked about bring him home and it slayed so yup
And anyway after this point I basically stopped looking at the barricade because I was just watching grantaire and gav so bear with me
During the attack grantaire just seats on a bench and does absolutely nothing. Just stares hopelessly into the void.
But after that there is the whole thing with ammunition and Gavroche volunteering
And okay first of all I really liked how everyone just zooms toward the barricade like Gavroche no- except then Gavroche is on the other side of the barricade right ? And nobody is moving. And you just have grantaire who gets up and starts walking slowly toward the barricade and it's absolutely agonizing
And after that Gavroche throws some ammunition to the guys and there is a short moment of victory- and then he gets shot and everything goes down from there
Enjolras gives his body to grantaire who is just below saying nothing. And it's utterly devastating.
Anyway after that Grantaire just kneels in a corner next to Gavroche's body
But when Marius gets shot him and Enjolras hug over marius's body and that was so sad
When Enjolras gets shot Grantaire just rushes on top of the barricade and starts screaming at the soldiers. And gets shot as well. And I did not know this happened I did not know Grantaire died after Enjolras I was not ready for this moment it destroyed me in so many ways
Anyway after that I basically zoned out because of what had just happened but what I can say is uh
I still don't like how javert's suicide is staged like it just looked to me like he was running backwards and the background was moving so. Yeah
Empty chairs at empty tables was- not the best. I liked the actor for all other moments but I just felt like his voice was kind of weak in this song ? It just didn't move me the way it usually does idk
Tho I still like how the women just laid candles down on the floor and then les amis arrive and pick them up
The Thénardier slaying again at the wedding <33
"I should have married your sister" always a highlight of the show actually
THE FINALE WAS SO GOOD
Lucie Jones again like love the voice love everything thank you queen
And just that moments when everything stops before the final "tomorrow comes" yeah that was that
Okay that's it that's the post if you read it down to here you're crazy and I love you
But still big shoutout to Fantine Eponine and Grantaire because those three really were the best parts of the show for me

AO3 tag game
Thank you for the tag @apopcornkernel my love kissing u /p
how many works do you have on ao3?
45 right now!
what's your total ao3 word count?
According to my stats page, 781,604! Holy smokes, Batman!
what fandoms do you write for?
Right now, mainly Heathers, but I've also written for Les Misérables, Derry Girls, Monster High, Miraculous Ladybug, Total Drama, Equestria Girls, and Rainbow High, and have posted some original work on AO3 too (mostly poetry).
what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
mArinette (a Miraculous Ladybug easy A AU)
today I woke up wanting to kiss you (plotless Duncney fluff)
Cute Boys With Short Haircuts (Miraculous Ladybug angsty one-sided identity reveal)
Mistlejoke (Miraculous Ladybug christmas fluff)
Waitin' on the Sunrise (shameless fluffy JDonica porn with plot)
do you respond to comments?
I try to lol. Usually I'll respond in batches because executive dysfunction is The Worst
what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Ooh, does original poetry count? Because if so, Kathryn, a midlength poem I wrote about Kathryn Howard the fifth wife of Henry VIII who was beheaded between the ages of 17 and 22. Or maybe these are times that can’t be weathered (and we have never been back there since then), a story about a Miraculous OC discovering Hawkmoth’s identity.
what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Personally, I think it’s The Dark Gate, part four of my Les Mis Winx Club AU. The happy ending is really earned and needed.
do you get hate on fics?
Not really since I stopped regularly writing for Miraculous Ladybug. Boy, that was a wild experience. The fandom was really big at the time and it was the post-Season 3 salt era, so Opinions were both abundant and poor in quality.
do you write smut? if so, what kind?
Yes indeed! I was born on the run (but I’ll die holding your hand) and Waitin’ on the Sunrise are both JDonica smut fics that I am very very proud of! They’re… very fluffy. You know that rule about how you see in fandom the stuff that was missing from the source material? Look, I just want my awful blorbos to be happy. And also to bang a lot.
do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written?
Does On Se Sent Comme Par Magie count? It’s really more fusion fic, it’s the characters of Les Mis living out the plot of Winx Club. Look, it just… it made sense in my head, y’know?
have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I know, and I hope it never happens!
have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I did write an English translation of a fic I wrote in my native Scots! Never posted it, though.
have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have tried and miserably failed. I just can’t do it, babes.
what's your all time favourite ship?
Probably JDonica. I just… he’d kill for her?? And he does?? Does it get more chewable than that??
what's a WIP you want to finish but sometimes doubt you ever will?
Oh god I haven’t actually written anything for two months. I need to get back to Waitin’ on the Sunrise, The Last Faery on Earth (Part 5 of OSSCPM), and The Mystery Solvers of Derry (Derry Girls SDMI AU).
what are your writing strengths?
According to my beta reader for OSSCPM, readability, characterisation, and cliffhangers.
what are your writing weaknesses?
I’m really bad for run-on sentences - it’s not my fault, okay, I started reading Les Mis when I was sixteen and impressionable, and Victor Hugo did a number on my psyche that I doubt will ever be reversed because unfortunately Vicky Huge-ho lives rent-free in my skull and whispers in my ear to just use more semicolons like the whore he is.
thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I’ve written in Scots before, which was fun! I kind of want to do it again, but the Plot Bunnies aren’t cooperating right now.
first fandom you wrote for?
I think. Technically. It was a documentary about Sperm Whales that had a really sad ending that I saw when I was six and I wrote a little book that gave it a happier ending, if that counts? If not, probably Equestria Girls. Although, thank god, my early fic experiments are all stored on a hard drive that will never see the light of day again.
favorite fic you've written?
I was born on the run (but I’ll die holding your hand)!! Fluffy JDonica smut for the win!!

Shipper Tag Game
Tagged by @lucientelrunya Thank you friend!
What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care about anymore?
Oh gosh it's been so long since I was a teenager. And there have been so many. It's less that I don't care and more that just, the obsession has faded and I don't actively ship them any more. Most of my old ships, I do still like, and under the right circumstances, I might be able to spark an interest again. Let's see, some things I was really into as a teenager...Buffy/Angel...Kunzite/Zoicite (Sailor Moon)...Zechs/Noin (Gundam Wing)...probably more, but those are the ones that stick out as being like super-ships for me.
2. Which ship would you consider your first one?
Mulder/Scully. I shipped them before I even knew what shipping was.
3. Your first fanfic was about which couple?
That I wrote? And actually published somewhere? ExR Les Mis fic.
4. Do you remember the first couple you saw fanart of?
Not really but it was probably something from Sailor Moon.
5. Have you ever gotten into ship discourse?
Nah, ship and let ship.
6. Did you use to have any NOTP or have one currently?
I have had them before and I have them now. In the interest of not hating on things I know other people like, I won't name them.
7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?
I read a Gong Shangjue/Gong Yuanzhi drabble while I was scrolling on tumblr yesterday. It's not really one of my current ships but it was a good little drabble!
8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?
RiSang my beloved!
9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?
I've been thinking about this question since I read through @lucientelrunya's answers, because I KNOW I had one but now I can't for the life of me remember what it was. Like these two people were so perfect for each other and it didn't happen and I remember being livid about it, but I guess I've since blocked it from my memory.
Also, not really "not getting together" but I'm mad that John Grey/Percy Wainright didn't get BACK together in Outlander. :|
10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?
Nothing I can think of off the top of my head.
11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, would've been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?
I guess some of my ships from The Fandom Which Must Not Be Named would fit. Author sucks, but I do still like the characters/ship.
12. What is your favorite crack ship?
Changheng/Dongfang Xunfeng (LBFAD). Don't ask. I think I'm the only one here. It came to me in a dream once and now I kind of ship it.
13. What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?
Uhhhh...I'd say probably Zechs/Noin from Gundam Wing. I read a LOT of GW fanfic back in the day. Like. A Lot. Like everything that existed on ff.n with that pairing. Because we didn't have AO3 back then. Weilan (Guardian) is probably a close second.
14. What do most of your ships usually have in common?
ANGST. Seriously I'm not sure what it is but I have had a ton of immortal/mortal ships, which will, in most cases, inevitably end in tears.
15. What you absolutely hate in a ship?
Lack of communication. The number of times I've actually yelled at my screen because of relationship drama that could have easily been avoided by having one simple conversation is...too high to count.
I tag: @merinnan @amidalogicdive @hils79 aand whoever else wants to play.

Ranking of all the actors who played each role in the last les mis cast then please
ok since literally one of you asked here goes:
Valjean
Chris Jacobsen Honestly, this man's Valjean is just something else entirely. His portrayal just has so much thought behind every action and I truly appreciate a Valjean that is just a little bit fucked up because he did fully spend 19 years in prison. You need to listen to his Bring Him Home to appreciate just how perfect his voice is. Not just my favourite Valjean of this cast but one of my favourite Valjean's ever.
Joseph Anthony Ok he fully got like 2 shows this entire contract but I saw one of them and was utterly amazed! He's only like 26ish but genuinely his acting was so great you'd never notice. Also it was very obvious that he started on the tour watching Dean Chisnall because his performance was very soft and nuanced like Dean's! Here's his Bring Him Home too if you're interested.
Luke McCall Always had a lovely voice but didn't exactly do much acting in his pre-pandemic era, very wooden. However, he came from the Staged Concert a changed man. His finale is genuinely heartbreaking from start to finish, I have quite often found myself in tears. He could have ended up at no. 2 but his vocals have REALLY let him down these past few months. Here's one of my fave clips of him in his vocal prime doing The Confrontation opposite Richard Carson.
Jon Robyns Look I love Jon, I really do...but his voice has just been in constant decline this year and I spend shows where he's on genuinely preparing myself for the inevitable cracks on all the big notes. His acting is really quite fantastic but god, until he takes some time to fix his vocals I honestly can't rank him any higher.
Javert
Richard Carson I wasn't sure about him to begin with but the way he grew into the role as he got more chances to go on was truly my favourite thing this cast. A fantastic, old school, PROPER BARITONE, javert. He's so perfectly cold and callous and his suicide is this perfect, unhinged breakdown at FULL SPEED (also truly incredible technique that he can do those big hyperventilating breaths and sing at the same time)
Bradley Jaden A truly extraordinary Javert on a good show, an incredibly below average one on a bad day. I think there was a point around June/July where he'd really found a perfect balance to his batshit suicide and coldness throughout the rest of the show. I also truly loved the way he embraced the valvert vibes.
Fantine
Kathy Peacock INCREDIBLE. The vintage Fantine we deserved. God I loved her. Here's her I dreamed a dream from her debut.
Jessica Joslin Another Fantine with a very classical musical theatre voice. I never really found her IDAD emotional enough though, like her acting was just never quite enough for me.
Ellie Anne Lowe ANOTHER Fantine with a very classical musical theatre voice. Only saw her once pre-shutdown but loved every single second.
Chanice Alexander-Burnett Look she was fine, a perfectly acceptable Fantine. I really never thought we got much from her acting wise though and I truly despised the riffs she sometimes did in IDAD.
Never sat Natalie Green but tbf she had literally one show and I'm sure I'll undoubtedly get a chance in the coming year!
Enjolras
Leo Miles If you've followed me long enough you'll know I was for a long time a Leo hater. However, I do not regret this. He has genuinely really improved in this past year and I love that for him! He's always had a lovely voice but he was so wooden. Now his Enjolras is absolutely heartbreaking, him and Connor's Grantaire are literally so in love with each other. Also pls listen to this note.
Joseph Anthony Just a really good Enjolras tbh.
Jordan Shaw Honestly...just all over the fucking place. Everytime I think he's maybe improved he'll just make the most bizarre choices ever. Like I've honestly gotten used to his more contemporary voice but I just can't get used to his absolutely batshit portrayal. Sometimes it can be fun to watch Chris' jaw literally clenching when he's being particularly bad. Also shoutout to Bradley who gave one of the best Enjolras' performance I've seen despite literally not knowing a single bit of the blocking. Him winging that new One Day More marching was iconic tbh. Also shoutout to Will Richardson who was fairly good but also nothing particularly special.
Eponine
Mared Williams One of the best Eponine's I've seen. A really interesting voice and such fantastic acting. The first time I've ever cried at A Little Fall of Rain. Here's her On My Own
Sha Dessi For the first half of this year she was absolutely nailing it, her On My Own felt so intimate. Unfortunately seems to have had some serious vocal issues for the past few months that have really let her down which is such a shame!
Jessie Hart To be honest she's still a fantastic Eponine. I'd definitely say the Eponine's have been the strongest all round, there's no a bad one! Her Eponine has an edge to her which I really enjoyed and her On My Own almost made me cry once. Also shoutout to Jenna Innes who I won't rank here but was an absolutely beautiful Eponine that I would have probably ranked 1st if she'd been a permanent cast member!
Marius
Harry Apps MY ABSOLUTE BELOVED FREAK OF A MARIUS. He's so weird and awkward and just a young guy in love, it's absolutely adorable. It makes his Empty Chairs such a heartbreaking contrast. His final one had me in actual proper tears.
Danny Colligan Honestly, don't have that much to say. He was fine, just a run of the mill portrayal tbh, and his voice is a little thin for my liking.
Michael Kholwadia Genuinely seemed like he'd just walked onstage for the first time and was winging it. His voice is nice enough but very wooden.
Cosette
Claire O'Leary Honestly she's just number one cause at least she can hit the notes.
Charlie Burn You know, she isn't the best vocally, but I do enjoy her acting, especially with Valjean in In My Life!
Phoebe Williams Don't really like her voice and honestly didn't think she did much acting tbh.
I'm actually not gonna rank the Thenardiers because I didn't get to see Georgie or Matt! I've also seen pretty much every single possible combination of covers and swings for the smaller roles if you want to hear my rankings of any of those just drop me an ask specifying which!!

Cossette, hiiii! ☺️🥰 My weekend is being good and a little weird, but yeah, I had a hot bath and some chocolate so I'm feeling better. I am, also, so bad with self-care and making my days as comfortable as possible. That's something I'm really looking forward to bettering in the coming year. I already have some plans! You just reminded me I need to get some scented candles because they always soothe my soul!!!
How was your weekend?
Oh, I do hope you end up enjoying it, when you can!!! I've been trying to get everyone I know to read them. Hehehe ARCs, that's so extremely cool!!!! Wow
I have a lot of unpopular opinions on Jane Austen. Nothing too serious, she's so freaking awesome!!! I haven't watched that adaptation yet, I think I am too scared to do it at this point! Is there a film that you watched this year that you absolutely recommend to everyone?
That's the most difficult question ever!!! I love all of them. I see pink and my eyes go 😍😍😍😍😍! I think it also depends a lot on my mood. Do you have one, though?
Have a super wonderful week!!! 🤍😘☃️
hi friend!! i'm glad to hear that you're hoping to work on that in 2024!! 🤍 i am also a big scented candle lover — i recently got a candle warmer and i loveeee it. probably one of my top 5 purchases of the year! my weekend was good, very self-care-filled, and i got to see my uncle which was always nice! i also read a little, which was nice since i haven't been reading a whole lot lately!
i would love to hear your unpopular opinions on jane austen 👀 fun fact, jane austen and i share a birthday! i was hoping to do a full austen reread last year which then got pushed into this year, and i still haven't read a single austen this year since i decided to reread les mis instead... oops? but hopefully next year i'll reread some austens! and i want to read/reread more classics too! i really want to revisit a lot of books i read for school and reread them now as an adult and see how i feel about them!
i am notoriously bad at watching movies — and also very bad at recording them on letterboxd! but i really loved watching glass onion: a knives out mystery (which i watched in january with my uncle), theatre camp (which i watched with my friend alyssa), the menu (which i watched with my friend jamie), barbie (which i saw the weekend i saw eras tour, with three of my closest friends), and of course, the eras tour film (which i saw a couple times; twice with my mom and once with one of my best friends from school)! i think part of my enjoyment was the movie itself, but also the experience of watching it with someone i love! what about you? do you have any tv/film recs for the year?
i am also a "any shade of pink is perfect" person, but i will say i have a softer spot for the pastel pinks! my room is very pastel pink + bright whites! hope you're having a good week my friend!! 🤍

Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. 10/20/23
Tumblr media
Reading: House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. (73% done)
Eating: Korean BBQ with the hot pot we got for our wedding. We made a whole afternoon out of it with my family.
Playing: Stick Season, Noah Kahan. I want it to be fall in CA. Maybe this album will bring it about.
Obsession: Les Mis (Musical). I saw Les Mis for the first time since high school. I took the time to think about my own growth and development in the last 10+ years. I used to have stark, revolutionary ideas. Now, I have settled into the ordinary. I have more in common with Marius/Cosette types (my least favorite characters in my youth) than Enjolras, whom I once admired. Valjean is my absolute favorite character now. The religious themes are unadulterated and genuine. "To love another person is to see the face of God?" One of the best quotes ever that I had forgotten. I cried, and I'm agnostic.
Recommendation: Homemade bolognese. I made my own pasta this week for dinner with my in-laws, and I am frankly obsessed. It's been forever since I've had enough time to make pasta. I loved being able to focus on a task and reap the benefits.
Treat: Rose Latte from Phliz Coffee.

Les Mis UK And Ireland Tour, Dublin 2.0
Okay so I saw Les Mis in Dublin on the 10th of February and as always when I see Les Mis I will be doing a review. For reference we were in the third row right in the middle.
I gotta see this is a STRONG cast. I actually couldn't fault any of the performances from the principal cast. There's usually always one that I'm not gone on but I genuinely believe this cast are stellar.
So to begin with, Dean Chisnall. I've heard such incredible things about Dean Chisnall and I have been so looking forward to seeing him. We've had these tickets since pre covid and I cam genuinely say it wad worth the wait. Quite honestly one of the best Valjeans I've ever witnessed. I can't even place what it is he brings to the character that makes his version so special but he's incredible. There's a softness to hid Valjean that sometimes I find lacking and it is just such a moving and nuanced performance.
So Enjolras is my favourite character and I've said it before that I have witnessed some incredibly underwhelming Enjolras and as a result I can be quite picky. Sam Wyn-Morris however, is quite honestly the best Enjolras I have ever seen. I am in love with his Enjolras. You can feel how much he cares for the cause in everything he does and those vocals. Honestly we are not worthy of his performances and I am so happy he got promoted from cover Enjolras in London to principal on tour because he is incredible.
Katie Hall. Katie Hall. Katie Hall. So I seen Katie as Fantine before back in Januarh 2019 and while I enjoyed her performance that time, it was nothing compared to this time. I don't know if it's becoming a mother or what it is, but her performance has completely changed and she blew me away. I sobbed through I dream a dream. There was so much raw emotion in everything she did and I just loved it.
Ian Hughes is a very enjoyable Thernardier. He is a great balance of funny and sinister and was very enjoyable to watch. Helen Walsh is good is Madame T., she's not my favourite role but I enjoyed her performance.
I had seen Nic Greenshields as Javert before and while I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, I enjoy him. He was perfectly stoic but unravelled at his death and vocally he was excellent on our night. I also found he acted more than he did previously when I'd seen him and thought he was a very good Javert.
Nathania Ong is a great Eponine. Her voice is stunning and I loved the rough and angry yet playful way she played Eponine. I felt like she did interstate the character which was lovely.
I really enjoyed Will Callan's Marius. Firstly, how is he only 18???? But secondly, he gave me very brick!Marius vibes he was just poor confused Pontmercy and I loved it and he also has stellar vocal chops.
I think it's generally agreed that Cosette can be quite a thankless role, but Paige Blankson was lovely. She actually acted!!!!! Which was great to see and has a beautiful voice.
The ensemble are very strong. Jordan Simon Pollard is excellently horrible as the Foreman. It is harrowing to see the Foreman as Fantine's first customer and his performance was fabulous. I really enjoyed Steven Hall as Grantaire in act 2, it was heartbreaking and he was wonderful. I could go through every member of the ensemble but I really don't have the time but it truly is an excellent company.
In terms of the production I was the first to complain about the original closing in London but after watching the New Production a few times in the last few years I can honestly say it is powerful. Some issues I would have, my friend I went with was a Les Mis newbie and sje said that the story was quite hard to follow at times as the scene changed no longer say the location and the year/ whether time has elapsed and I can imagine that would be hard to follow should you not know. Despite that I do think the production, sets and general staging etc are very good and while I do think it was a shame to get rid of the original completely, I do think this production is just as wonderful.
Something I noticed that was different to the other times I have seen both this production and the original is that Eponine no longer dies climbing over the barricade. The line "There's a boy climbing the barricade" no longer exists. Instead, Eponine is already at the barricade and a student (I didn't see who) calls "Incoming", this is followed by two gunshots and Eponine actually jumps infront of the gun in order to stop Marius getting hit (not unlike in the film). It was an interesting change because it is very small but I wonder what the decision was to change it.
Anyway, the tour company are very strong and I will urge anyone who can to get tickets because they're a cast you don't want to miss.

Y/N and Aldo never showed some kind of an affection towards each other. They respected, trusted, appreciated the other one but these traits were common among the Basterds.
It seemed so innocent at first, almost like a teasing and none of the Jewish American soldiers expected to become it something more.
•••
They met at the very beginning of the Basterd's missions. Y/N was a french spy, a very famous one so she obviously got their attention since they'd gotten to France.
The Basterds recruited her in a bar and she immediately became one of them. Y/N fit within the group perfectly, like she was always destined to be a Basterd.
•••
After the third successful mission, they decided to stay the night in a local resistance hotel to relax and prepare for another action. Everyone went to their beds as soon as they could but Donny persuaded Y/N and Aldo to gamble a little before the sleep.
"C'mon, just one game!" Donny pleaded. It didn't take much and the trio was sitting around a table playing their fifth game.
"I thought you're better at poker, Lieutenant." Y/N laughed as she grabbed another money she won.
"Shut up, Sergeant. I just am a bit lenient with ya, that's all." Aldo fought back, trying to cover the fact he's worse with cards than Hugo trying to actually smile for once.
"Show me what you got, Lieutenant. I wanna see how you lose control." she winked at him and dealt the cards.
•••
Something changed in Aldo this evening. At first, Y/N was just another soldier sticking up for her country trying to end the war. But now he saw her in a totally different light.
He noticed what colour her eyes have, how she always ties her hair in a braid.
He noticed how her cheeks blushed when he praises her after a good work.
He noticed how she scrunches her nose when she disagrees with someone.
All those little things were filling his head. Aldo was so full of it. It was during the other mission when he completely understood his feelings.
•••
One moment and his whole world flipped.
Aldo was so angry with himself that he missed such an important thing.
Like a gun.
The German soldier was just kneeling in front of Aldo when he reached in his pocket. It all happened so quickly then.
The German pulled out a gun and with one last defiance he pulled the trigger. But it wasn't Aldo who got hit.
It was the woman behind him.
Aldo was like deprived of his senses. He threw away the piece of bread he was eating and jumped at the German. If Wicki didn't pulled him back, Aldo would probably beat the guy to death.
And that was Donny's speciality.
"Don't you fuckin' touch her! Or look at her!" Aldo shouted hitting his face with his fist one more time.
Y/N was so taken away by his behaviour, not really sure where the anger got from.
"What the hell, Lieutenant?" she frowned, "it's just a goddamn scratch on my arm. The bullet didn't even hit me properly."
Aldo froze whereas Donny and Hugo looked at each other with knowing smiles. They finally realised what was going on.
"Are you sure you're okay?" he tried to brush it off, gesturing to the Basterds to continue with the scalping. "It's fuckin' bleedin' a lot!"
"It's fine. Nothing too serious, Lieutenant." Y/N replied.
Aldo just shook his head as he took off his scarf and tied it around the wound. "No one would hurt ya again, or I'd kill 'em."
•••
The Basterds got ordered to rest a bit because there was a big mission on its way. They didn't know what it was but they all welcomed a full night sleep.
But Y/N didn't feel like going to bed. Instead, she took her cigarettes and sat at the balcony of the apartment they got settled in.
It was a chilly night but she didn't mind. She actually liked cold more than heat.
"Aldo seems a bit off lately." Donny's voice broke the silence as he positioned himself next to her.
"What you mean?" she asked offering him a cigarette which he gladly accepted.
"Remember how he beated up the German officer two weeks ago? I've never seen him like that."
"Oh Donny. He's just a badass with a good heart. I assure you, Aldo's just fine."
Donny shrugged but didn't say anything. This wasn't his secret to tell even though the change in Aldo's behaviour towards her was so damn obvious.
Donowitz glanced at Y/N smiling a bit. He understood why Aldo fell for the female Basterd.
•••
Bridget von Hammersmark was laying in front of them with a bullet in her leg while Hugo, Archie and Wicki were dead.
Y/N was standing in the corner of the room, lost in her thoughts, mourning for her lost friends. She knew something like that had to happen but she also believed in Basterds and part of her thought that they'll all come back home one day.
Y/N wasn't able to look at the actress anymore. She quickly left the room not looking at anyone while she lighted her cigarette. It'd been becoming too much to handle for her.
"Are you alright?" Aldo frowned as he walked towards her. "You still in?"
She laughed sarcastically at his question sheaking her head. "Yeah, of course, business. I'm in, Lieutenant."
"I didn't mean in like that and ya know it."
"Yeah, sorry. It's just-"
"I know, Sergeant. This whole event got me thinkin'. I gotta tell you something."
Y/N threw away her cigarette as she looked directly at him. She wasn't sure if it was the light or the sentiment, but Aldo's eyes never seemed so beautiful to her like they did in that moment.
"The truth is," Raine began as he stepped closer, "you make me feel... you make me feel, Sergeant."
•••
When Y/N stepped into the room in a black plain tight dress, the conversation between the Basterds immediately stopped. They'd never seen her in anything but in uniform or the civilian clothes. Donny dropped the glass of whiskey he was drinking, Hugo's knife fell on the ground with a loud crash, Omar and Wicki stayed there with their mouths wide opened, Archie Hicox smirked and Aldo, Aldo was taken away and wasn't able to get out a word.
"Please, gentlemen! This is how you welcome a beautiful woman? She looks magnificent!" Bridget von Hammersmark exclaimed gesturing towards Y/N.
"It's so uncomfortable," Y/N frowned and tried to adjust the dress a little, "and so impractical."
"I think it's perfect." Aldo breathed out and Bridget smiled in satisfaction.
Y/N truly looked like a completely new person. And Aldo's feelings mixed once again. She was so special to him, like water is special to desert. His life was dry without an excitment. She was the water that refreshed him after a long time of loneliness.
•••
Bridget, Aldo, Y/N, Donny and Omar stepped into the small local cinema, already so full of Nazi officers.
"It makes me sick." Y/N snorted as she looked around on the German uniforms. "I have two knives and a gun and I'm not afraid to use them right now."
Aldo laughed next to her and gallantly put his hand on her hip pulling her closely to him.
"Just relax, darlin'. We'll do that later." Aldo winked at her, not letting her go for a moment.
Bridget suddenly seemed like she'd seen a ghost. An older man approached their little group and Y/N immediately understood with whom they have the honor.
Bridget and Hans Landa shared a short conversation before they turned to them. Hammersmark formally introduced the Basterds and Y/N flinched a little under the German's look. Aldo noticed right away her change of attitude and stroked her hip gently.
"Sei assolutamente incredibile, signorina! Ho notato che molti ufficiali hanno voltato la testa dopo di te." (You look absolutely stunning, miss! I noticed that many officers turned their head after you.) Hans Landa grinned and Y/N thought it was the most disgusting thing ever.
"Grazie mille signore. Sono sicuro che stai esagerando." (Thank you very much, sir. I'm sure you're exaggerating.) Y/N faked a smile and clenched her hand in fist to remain calm.
All of the Basterds with Bridget jerked their heads towards her. Her fluent Italian took them away as well as Landa.
"Quanto amo la lingua italiana! E dalla bocca di una donna così bella, è una musica per le mie orecchie." (How I love the Italian language! And from the mouth of such a beautiful lady, it's a music for my ears.)
"Mi stai adulando, signor Landa. Non hai un brutto aspetto." (You're flattering me, Mr Landa. You don't look so bad yourself.) Y/N felt like vomitting any next second.
Aldo had enough of Landa's fake attitude, especially how Y/N looked so stressed and angry. He decided he has to step in or she won't hold herself back. Aldo recalled the one sentence he learnt yesterday, just in case he'd need to interrupt a moment in a formal way. This was the time.
"Baciami, adesso." (Kiss me, right now.) he stated and pulled Y/N even closer than before. She didn't manage to prostest or ask a quick question and their lips touched. She returned the kiss immediately and ran her fingers through his hair.
Until someone coughed.
They pulled apart from each other, Aldo smiling widely like a winner and Y/N blushing harder than ever.
"Ci scusi signore. Il mio ragazzo qui è un tipo appassionato. Devi perdonarlo." (Excuse us, sir. My boyfriend here is the passionate kind. You must forgive him.) Y/N stuttered and but looked directly at Landa.
•••
Operation Kino was over and it was now only her, Aldo and Utivich. They lost everybody along the way. They stood together side by side through everything. They'd become something stronger than family, friends, lovers. They faced death together and nothing could break the bond they'd created over the years. It was time to go home.
Y/N stood on the ship that was taking the Basterds, or what was left of them, home. The wind was dancing on her hair whispering secrets in her ears.
"I never thought I'd make it back home." Aldo Raine appeared next to her with a cigarette between his lips.
"None of us thought so, Lieutenant." she nodded, "but the difference is, we were wrong. Not them."
"Smart as always." Aldo grinned as he turned to her. "You should stop calling me Lieutenant. The war's over."
Y/N giggled at his statement and he could swear he'd never heard something so melodic, something so right.
"It kinda sticked with you, Lieutenant."
Aldo didn't answer, instead he threw away the cigarette and took some deep breaths. He needed whiskey, or anything else that would give him at least a bit of courage.
Aldo Raine fought in war, he saw his friends die, he was broken by everything he saw and still, asking Y/N a simple question seemed harder than surviving the bloodshed.
"Spill it out, Lieutenant." she laughed as she glanced at him.
"I hate how ya always do that. But here it goes," Aldo replied, "I've never been good at this so I'll just keep it short."
He stopped for a moment and stared at the woman in front of him. As he stepped closer, his heart was already racing like it'd never before.
"Why don't ya come to the States with me? We can buy some little house in the Smoky Mountains and live there for the rest of our fuckin' lives." Aldo confessed in his Raine kind of way, looking at her with so much hope in his eyes.
"Is this some kind of your proposal?" Y/N chuckled as she intertwined her fingers with his.
"Maybe."
"I thought you'd never ask! Of course I'll come with you! You're everything I have, Aldo."

I LOVE BIENVENUE SUR LES CH'TIS AND AZUR ET ASMAR AND I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYONE MENTION THEM EVER!!!! I just got the whole scene with the furniture in my head, when they're talking about why the house is empty and the guy's accent makes "ils sont siennes" (they're theirs) sound like "ils sont chiennes" (they're dogs) 😂😂😂😂 did you know there's an Italian version?
Benvenue sur les Ch’tis is hilarious and I love hearing ch’ti dialect, it sounds so charming even if I can barely understand it (because, even if I speak french, it’s so harddddd)
My favorite part is this one:
Philippe : Bonsoir Biloute, HEIN ! Mi avec euch'l'équipe de l'poste, on voudrait...
Antoine : ...On voudro ! On voudro !
Philippe : On voudro, on voudro arcominder eul' même cose. Ch'il vous plait, HEIN !
Le serveur : Excusez moi je suis pas ch'timi, je suis de la région parisienne et j'ai rien compris!
I know there’s an Italian version and I saw it, but for some reasons I much prefer the french version over Benvenuti al Sud. To be claer, both films are great and I like Claudio Bisio as actor, but since I lived for a long time in south Italy it always rub me how southern people are portrait.
I know both films have been criticized for this, even if I understand that a comic movie need to exaggerate a bit. The films show how the preconceptions come from people who live outside these regions and that living there they understand that they were wrong. so i guess that's fine. it's not a movie I watch often, but it's certainly a movie that I enjoy watching when I need to laugh without thinking too much about it.
*hinale* AZUR ET ASMAR IS MARVELOUS
Still, I prefer Princes et Princesses because it's the oldest movie I remember watching and it's incredibly soothing to me.
(La Reine cruelle et le Montreur de Fabulo it’s the sweetest part and I love it with all my heart)

I read something interesting (I forget where) that argued they modeled "I'll Just Wait Here Then" off of the song "On My Own". Was wondering if you had thoughts on this. I've watched a couple different versions of "On My Own" on youtube and there does appear to be at least superficial similarities (then again I might just be blinded by trench coat).
*erases the 1 on the sign that says “days gone without getting I’ll Just Wait Here Then stuck in my head”*
Is that an official comment or just some meta because I don’t remember anything from around the time commenting on where any of the songs really came from…
Oh, wait, I had NO IDEA what you were talking about when I wrote all of that, assuming Youtube would explain once I got there, but now I’m here, but you know what, my BFF is so into musicals and loves Lea Salonga so much and so I actually HAVE made this exact comparison, myself, while sitting through this video for my BFF :P (I have a thing about musicals >.> Failed theatre kid over here >.>)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjfmP7h3gBw
I don’t think I ever shared this thought because it was just a silly thing I thought once ages ago (and I dislike musicals a lot), but, I mean, yeah. Look at her.
Tumblr media
Yeah, the song is essentially whatserface from Les Mis who’s in sad unrequited love with… main young guy…? Was it Eddie Redmayne in the movie or do I just assume he’s in everything? And he’s just run off in love with whatserface the other young love interest girl, and she’s got his coat somehow, and it’s raining and she wanders down through the dark empty street sing-crying about how she’s all alone and will love him unrequitedly and knows it. I got the impression from the movie she was really stoic about it the rest of the time and this is her kind of cracking open for the audience and showing us what she’s been feeling if you missed that she was pining from the smaller details.
I think to compare it to I’ll Just Wait Here Then, it’s probably tapping a similar mood, especially if Cas hasn’t sung all that much so far (if you crush the story down but you’re as far as season 5 he may have had like… 1 song for season 4 although I would hope 4x22 would be a super intense duet with Dean, and now despite my aversion to musicals I actually want to know what Cas’s intro number was like :P) - but anyway in season 5 we’re starting to get to know Cas better and to see more of all his underlying character stuff, since season 5 is really just an emotional arc for Cas, and he only helps along with the plot here and there. So his season 5 song would be one that shows us some underlying motivation and heart. And this IS a love song to Dean.
I think the sad unrequited part though, even though it sounds that way, is something that in 5x04 is answered with Dean’s reaction’s to Cas. I wouldn’t say Cas is rewarded for waiting all night and Dean being appreciative of him because that sounds kind of awful and like Dean’s got, idk, emotional currency tokens or that Cas is hanging on Dean for any he has to spare, but as I said about this song back after 10x05 aired, it’s such a random thing that they found one of the DeanCas moments that’s pretty much all comedic beats and there genuinely isn’t any romance subtext in the first conversation on the phone, but then Robbie turned it around and used that to lead into how Cas would be feeling after Dean hung up on him, and from there we get that incredible little love song about how Cas will always wait for Dean… In the actual episode we know that does get answered that Dean is ALSO genuinely fond of Cas, is given a strong wake up call about that with the events of Endverse, and at the end of the episode looks completely mushy over Cas.
(The other week when I was having a mental block on everything pre-season 7 I made this post and got a pretty repeated answer of “the way Dean looks at Cas in 5x04″)
We don’t know if the musical answered it or left Cas unrequited until later depending on what story Marie was telling (and it’s easier to leave that hanging as it’s such a theme it was still relevant TO 10x05 so whatever the end of her play involved, it could set Cas up for the long game) but when you piece the song back into its place in 5x04 I think it would make Cas feel less terrible than whatserface from Les Mis because Dean was so happy to see him, and had genuine words of affection for him when Cas had rescued him, not just for the fact he did it, but he’d been through so much and disliked seeing the potential future version of Cas so much that he was sort of… appreciating everything about Cas there, not just his ability to make a well-timed rescue :P
But yeah in the wider context of season 10, writing a song about Cas unrequitedly pining for Dean goes riiight back to being relevant, because Dean’s essentially off the market the whole time he has the Mark, or later Amara bothering him, and Cas has to wait it all out. He’s the one carrying the Destiel arc in season 10, and I think thematically, mixing up these 2 songs to get more subtext out of the relatively cute and harmless I’ll Just Wait Here Then, really suits the flavour more of stuff like Cas’s speech in 10x22 about everyone Dean loves being dead except for him, and all that stuff where it got genuinely that painful and awful for Cas, and Dean seemed to reject him. I mean Cas WAS written as an unrequited love interest that year - the 10x14 deleted scene is the most obvious place for that, but it’s really telling us nothing we didn’t already know from the rest of the story so far that year.
(gosh and to think I thought I’d have nothing to say on this when I saw the ask was about songs and music and I was like, oh no, I don’t know ANYTHING about this sort of stuff :P)

Hi!!!! I'm so sorry I didn't reply again until now. I wanted to reply the other day but basically my ask got deleted halfway thru replying and I didn't have time again until now. I'm so glad you had a great time at the movie. It seems like you had a lot of fun and i'm glad you were able to see it again. I expected there not to be a lot of people at the last show since it was so late and it was an added show on Thursday. It did make me wanna see it again just to experience it with other people but I don't know if I will. I hope it comes to streaming so I can watch it over and over. I loved noticing new things seeing it up close. What did your friend think of the whole show? Sometimes I forget how incredible it is how Taylor created and came up with it mostly by herself..a true mastermind! I'm grateful that I was able to go to the show at least once compared to the people that didn't. It did make me nostalgic for my show but I also loved the surprise songs cuz it was like how the fans that have been there from the beginning since Our Song to now with You're On Your own Kid just made it special. Aww she really put it on and said it was her favorite!!! I knew about the cut songs beforehand but my sister didn't and it took her some time to realize any were cut. I understand some of them cuz it didn't have choreography and I guess the movie maybe felt a little long but also everything went by fast too. But that was the one that hurt the most cuz its one of my favorites. It's also the only single from the album so I couldn't believe she cut it. I love them all but my favorites are probably Speak Now and Folklore too, along with rep.
I never listened to Renee's EP cuz I was waiting until her album but I do plan to hear them together probably next week. The few songs I've heard so far I've liked though. I have to give Holly's album a few more listens as well before I know my favorites but which ones did you like the best? I also enjoyed Boygenius as well. Ya I am curious about the movie version but I'm not excited about it or anything. I don't think it would change much from the stage version, but I'm happy it's at least people kinda from Broadway. I never saw anything from Sabrina if she ever was on Broadway, cuz I can't remember..but I agree..she could've been a great Cady. I remember the stunt cast for Cameron Dallas and apparently he was so bad lol. I'm sorry you didn't get to see it on Broadway but I might see it on tour in a few months to compare it to the movie. I also heard a Waitress proshot is coming soon so I'm probably more interested in seeing that, cuz I couldn't on tour.
So one of the reasons I didn't reply to you was cuz we went to see Les Mis last night!!! We were trying to go on Wednesday but it didn't work out so I didn't wanna tell you I was seeing it if I wasn't sure I could go. But it was so amazing and probably top 5 shows I've seen. I would want to go again to have better seats and cuz there was a lot going on, on stage, that I missed. It was really funny though cuz I hadn't thought of the musical in a while but of course I still knew all of the words haha. It felt really fast paced and I wish I could've paid more attention or soaked it in more..that was kinda my first time seeing a sung through show, so it was a good thing I knew it so well lol. My favorite parts were I Dreamed a Dream, The Confrontation, Stars, and One Day More, but I really loved the flow of Act One. The barricade scenes were good too, but the set was pretty dark which made it kinda hard to see. Of course I thought of you every time they said Cosette! And I noticed it was a lot haha. Anyway I also remembered I saw Moulin Rouge on tour almost the exact same day last year which is a crazy coincidence! I only know that cuz it was around when Midnights came out..which is today and I wanna know how you feel about it when it first came out compared to now. I think it's grown on me a lot and I do love it way more now. I can't believe 1989 is only a week away! I'm so excited to hear new Taylor songs to react to..it's so fun and will be fun to see if we have the same favorites.
Wow cool..that's awesome that you met up at your show! You're so sweet to say that and I realized we have been talking back and forth for a while now. I definitely think of you as my friend! Sometimes I worry that I have nothing interesting to say but then I also worry I talk so much lol. But that's why I say you shouldn't worry about replying..but I didn't want you to feel like I forgot about you either. I really do enjoy our conversations and how we just talk about our interests since I don't really have anyone else to talk about this stuff with. It feel weird that you don't know what I look like or that I'm just online, and sometimes I feel weird about it. Books are something I'm glad we can bond over, since my sister doesn't have as much time for reading, and I'm excited to start the book soon. If we are reading the Night Circus too, it's okay cuz I can read two books at the same time but just let me know. I read the summary of those on Goodreads and it reminded me of Only Murders in the Building, even if I haven't even watched the show yet but it's on my list. If you've seen it, let me know how it is. I am not a big thriller or mystery reader but it did seem interesting so I'm glad you enjoyed them! I'm sorry if I forgot anything, but I might not be able to reply until Monday if you reply to this though..just to let you know. I hope you have a nice weekend!
hi friend!! hope you're having a good weekend 🤍 i saw something on twitter about it maybe going to prime, but i take most things i see on twitter with a grain of salt 😭 my friend really liked it — and is super excited to see her next year 🥺 i understand why a lot of them were cut (choreo, etc) but i was really bummed because i love long live and the archer and cardigan and - well, all of them. i was talking to some friends on thursday about how if we could change anything in the eras setlist in a way that wouldn't alter production too much (i.e. costume changes, choreography, speeches, giving her time to rest a bit, etc) what would we change and so i want to ask you the same question! what would you change if you could? i think i said i'd switch out i knew you were trouble with holy ground or red! i would personally also maybe switch all too well 10 for the 5 minute version, and then add our song or i'm only me when i'm with you (or both) instead, just so i could get my little debut songs in. but i do think it's pretty perfect and even the songs that i don't gravitate towards listening to regularly are SO much fun live. the rep set is SO good; we've talked about how it's not my favorite album of hers but honestly one of my favorite eras performances i think.
i think elvis impersonators, cocoon, and ghost me are in my top 3, but i'm not entirely sure yet! i can't wait to hear more of your thoughts on holly's album!! sabrina was only cady for like, two days so not a whole lot exists out there! but i really liked her take on cady. i feel like more often than not i am disappointed with stunt casting (i understand why they do it though) — speaking of stunt casts, i'm curious to see how jordan fisher does as orpheus in hadestown! i'm seeing the tour in a few weeks and i'm super excited to finally see someone who isn't reeve carney haha! and yes — waitress proshot! it was announced yesterday or the day before, i think! my friend texted me about it but i'm not sure if i'll have time to go see it in cinemas. hopefully it gets put on streaming sometime soon too!! i just remembered broadwayhd exists — there's so much on there that i haven't seen (that being said, if you've never seen daddy long legs the musical, i do recommend it because megan mcginnis' voice is beautiful and i just love her — although the actual musical content/plot is a bit questionable — and of course, she loves me and allegiance are also ones i'd recommend)! i didn't know they did a proshot of snapshots — john cardoza was in it and i really like him (i saw him in the notebook + really like what i've heard of him in moulin rouge + like what i heard of him in the snapshots cast recording) so i might give that a watch sometime! and i forgot they filmed the production of first date that sam barks was in! i was also just thinking of submissions only, which was a web series back in like 2012 and is pretty scrubbed from the internet now, unfortunately but i loved it. did you ever watch smash? now i'm feeling incredibly nostalgic!
oh my gosh did you have fun at les mis!!! i really liked the marius on tour (gregory lee rodriguez) — his marius is so earnest and so charming; i saw him in a show here in seattle a few years ago and i remember thinking he was a very likable actor so i was really excited to see him in les mis when i saw the tour in june! the barricade scenes are some of my favorites, but yes — lighting can be tricky! i've been meaning to rewatch the movie at some point as well, but it's so long and such a commitment. i was also ... doing a VERY good job of working at my les mis reread/annotations but then ... did not do that. so we'll see if i pick it back up or if i decide to push it off to next year haha. and no way! that's such a cool coincidence!
i really like midnights; i think it's a solid album — but i do find myself reaching for the 3am tracks over some of the songs on midnights proper a lot! it's interesting because my friends and i did a little ~ prediction ~ of our favorites based on names and i could not have been more wrong. i said lavender haze, anti hero, you’re on your own kid, question…? and sweet nothing were ones that stood out to me, and i do like them, don't get me wrong, but the only one i listen to A LOT is you're on your own kid. i think my top listened to midnights tracks/favorite midnights tracks are (in no particular order): yoyok, mastermind, the great war and dear reader. what about you?
you don't need to worry about not having anything interesting to say! i love chatting with you — you can literally come talk to me about anything you want! and you don't need to apologize for taking your time to reply either! and i'm happy to do whatever works for you reading schedule wise / buddy reading wise! i haven't watched OMITB but i've heard really good things and there's apparently a lot of broadway people cameos in the third season? which is fun!
hope you're having a good weekend 🤍 🤍 !!

Hi! I hope everything is okay and you have started to feel better! That really sucks you had to cancel all your weekend plans though. Hopefully you feel better soon!!!
But ya I really like the ice cream back cover and I like some of the pics from the cd that I've seen. Some of those could maybe be better cover choices though. My sister pointed out that why was she wearing the same shirt from the sunrise cover on the back of the pink cover too..like the outfits don't match and I'm sorry..but it bothers me now! Other than that, yes I'm excited! I will admit that 1989 is not one of my fav albums. Sometimes the songs just blend together and one of the eras I felt kinda disconnected to her at the time and my old friends always hated her. I never stopped loving her but she kinda became like the popular girl and I couldn't relate to that even though I was also hanging out with my friends a lot during that time..but by reputation I was fully back in and also by that time all my friends had left me lol..so weirdly it did kinda like up with my life actually..which is why I'll forever love Taylor haha. Thats so cute..I think I found the Teardrops MV on someone's Myspace actually lol! I knew Our Song and maybe some of her other videos but never actually owned the Debut album. Fun.fact..i had the biggest crush on a boy named Drew in high school too..so I really relate to the song and gives me memories of high school. Ooh I connected Is it over Now? To her fame and career actually similar to the Lucky One or Nothing New but I didn't think of the slut connection! But I also saw a lot of people say is it over Now is probably a relationship..and as a closer, maybe it's actually pretty similar to Clean and that's my favorite song on the album so I'm kinda excited for that one now too. Also..I have never been out of the country so I think it's so cool that you came here from Hong Kong! I can't imagine what that would be like.
My favorite show was probably Wicked..cuz that was the first show I ever saw..and I had a lot of excitement for it. I didn't know the whole story and seeing the costumes and sets was also cool. Rent was another favorite, which I think I told you. I also got to see Darren Criss in Hedwig as the second show I saw. I liked Into the Woods cuz I got to see Gavin Creel and Stephanie J Block and her husband. I saw CATS and Lucky enough to be 2nd row and see the makeup and costumes up close and it was my 1st show back since the pandemic..so it made me really excited. I got to see HP and the Cursed Child and I never saw a play before but it wouldn't be my fav cuz it didn't have any songs..but still liked some music. Hadestown was cool cuz it's all singing and the effects and i wasn't as familiar with it either. It would be so cool to see that show without knowing anything about it beforehand.. Dear Evan Hansen is one of my fav shows as well and that was the last show I saw. But i never got to see Waitress or Hamilton and those would have been favorites probably. I'm still hoping for Les Mis next month too. What about you? How many shows have you seen overall or estimated?
Ya it didn't feel like that much..obviously they added the two songs and maybe a few 5 minute scenes..idk. I am excited to watch Theater Camp later tonight. How was it? I hope it's good and that you liked it! For the books, it was a book called the Unfortunate side effects of Heartbreak and Magic..I just read the synopsis but it was a book about witches so that's why I considered it. The other one was called Running Past Dark and it was kinda a mystery and what happened to her twin sister. I read a snippet of it but was unsure cuz I think both of these books just came out too so idk. But that one seemed kinda similar to another book called Whistleblower that's on my list..I think I picked it for orange cover. It's just a maybe at this point though. I hope you're taking this time to relax and feel better!!!
thank you!! 🤍 i am still not feeling super great, so i might have to go back to the doctor's this week :( apologies in advance for 1) how late this reply is + 2) if i missed anything !! 🤍
i think the ice cream cover is so so cute! i just love how happy she looks in these photos :") and i didn't notice that until you/your sister pointed that out! i love 1989, but i connect more to some of her other albums/gravitate towards them more! the album i reach for the least is definitely reputation, but i also still like it a lot. i'm very curious to see how rep tv will sound, since it's the most recent one. and i sometimes find myself wondering how her 5th album would've sounded — or how different her career would be today — if she had won for red!! i was never on myspace, but i remember seeing things about taylor's myspace!! my first social media was facebook, and i was definitely far too young to have a facebook account haha. i feel like whenever my friends and i theorize about vault tracks and how they'll sound, we're wildly off, so it'll be interesting to see what we get!!
wicked is SO fun live!!! the costumes and the set and choreo is just so good, it's just a show and i hope the movie will be similarly impressive. i don't know if i told you that i've never seen rent — i was supposed to see the ... 20th anniversary tour a few years ago when they were in seattle but also had bronchitis back then (funnily enough, wicked was also here that summer and i also had to miss seeing wicked that time around). i'm so so jealous you saw gavin creel, SJB and seb arcelus in into the woods — i wanted to see into the woods so badly </3 i've been very lucky to see a lot of shows but i've also seen a lot of things repeatedly so my number is pretty high! i think my favorite show i've ever seen live is either: hadestown, newsies (first show on broadway, very sentimental to me), marie dancing still, waitress, or come from away but i think i also have a lot of very fond memories associated with specific shows/performances — like i met one of my best friends at oklahoma!
i really enjoyed theatre camp! it was like, everything i love and hate about theatre people and i will admit that i cried a bit at the end!!! but i do cry at everything! i love molly gordon <3333 and noah galvin is very, very talented. did you like it? what did you think of it? and ooh! you'll have to let me know how those books are! i haven't been reading much lately but i have been watching some tv!! i finally watched season 2 of heartstopper, and then finished watching why didn't they ask evans? (i watched the first ep and then never finished but finished last night)! i'm almost done with my audiobook though, and then hopefully i'll feel up to reading something soooonish.
hope you're doing well and having a good monday! 🤍
