I have a big google doc thing where I keep track of media and stuff (putting everything in loosely ranked categories), which is mostly just for my own reference so I know what tv shows I've already seen before, etc. and I never really look back through it, typically just a quick "okay, watched two movie in the past 8 months, need to quickly slap them somewhere in the lists. okay. done. save document. exit". But today I was actually reading through some of the old notes and there are like... MULTIPLE places where my comment is basically "It would have been good if it were about elves" or "I wish there was a fantasy show made in this same style" or "It's well made, but I just keep thinking about how I would like it more if everyone was an elf or was in old 1700s costumes" or etc like...... lol.... Most biased media ranking system on earth blatantly made by someone with an extremely hyperspecific range of narrow interests. It'd be like if a food reviewer only had 5 foods they actually liked, so they'd just go to a pizza place and be like "eh, the pizza was okay, but I just think it would be better if it was cereal instead. :/ ...2 out of 10"

WIP Intro - Colour WIP

When a Purple mage – part of the serving class – is found and saved from following her colours expectations, she joins an overambitious heist crew, looking to obliterate a device that could change the world as they know it.  As she learns more about the world and her magic, she slowly comes to realise that real life isn’t quite as perfect as the stories she was told…

Starring!

Fina Luceros: Purple mage, sheltered from the outside world for fear of her being snatched away and groomed into servitude. Idealistic dreamer, anticipates things to be much more exciting than they end up being. Eleven years old and eager to please.

Red: Red mage, living legend, survived a typically deadly colour swarm and emerged changed from the event. Leader of the heist crew and the one who stopped Fina being snatched away. Arrogant and head-strong, often looks down on others for not matching his skill level. Completely blind.

Clem: Orange mage. Expelled student who was studying the effects of colour storms (and their absence) on mages. Badly affected by an old orange storm, and feels the impact of it quite consistently. Cannot stand Red.

Sunny: Yellow mage. Stoic and serious, speaks very rarely, mostly uses sign language to be understood.

Lief: Green mage. Non-nonsense, runs the business behind the scenes. Excellent kickass grandma vibes. Wants to be Normal.

Brighton Blackling: Blue mage, heir to a very powerful conglomerate and determined to keep it that way. Scientist and inventor. Obnoxious asshole, looks down on nearly everyone for pretty much everything. The one who called for and is funding the heist.

Bernadette Blackling: Magicless, Brighton's younger sister, desperate to inherit the family business. Diligent socialite with a heart of ice. Methodical and ruthless, working hard to out-do her brother and earn the inheritance, and created:

Elan Soot: White mage, failed test subject in Bernadette's bid to create a mage able to control all colours. Emerged stripped of and tormented by any pigment - works to bleach them out and make a 'perfect' world for themselves. Red's supposedly dead sibling, Bernadette's lover. Impulsive and abrupt.

Featuring fucked up sibling dynamics, a cutthroat gang trying to push the boundaries of what lowerclassmen can do, sentient and mood-altering magic, and cycles of behaviour that repeat over and over and over, often ending with abrupt betrayal.

#There's in Rilke and especially in this particular book a lot about the world‚ created in the beholding and loving it‚ #and one existing to love the world. There's so much about the world being created by that loving and knowing the world of one individual #person that loves and knows it. A kind of feedback loop of existing and being by love and knowledge that is all a participation #on the act of creation. The person coming to exist to love and know the world‚ and creating the world by loving and beholding it #This is also present on Juan Ramón Jiménez‚ among others‚ but 5 yo me was obsessed with those poems. ANYWAY #This topic made me think of Lacie a lot but in this particular poem that topic + the 'I'm sorry' scene + the figure of Lacie beyond Lacie‚ #a Lacie that's legend and real‚ a Lacie always sitting under a tree‚ life ending and life expanding so to speak‚... #That kind of knowing it all in a glimpse that is knowing in an instant and eternal (which again reminds me of Kierkegaard‚ #fitting I'd say with Rilke). I'm explaining myself terribly but I don't want to talk too much haha But yeah it all seemed very fitting #There was another poem about spiralling so to speak around god that I also thought was very Lacie but very PH in general #('I live my life in widening circles / that reach out across the world. / I may not complete this last one / but I give myself to it / #I circle around God‚ around the primordial tower. / I've been circling for thousands of years / and I still don't know: am I a falcon‚ / #a storm or a great song?'). Kirby Star Allies is one of, if not my absolute favorite Kirby games, and I recognize while it's on paper one of the weaker entries in the core series, it appeals to me personally on multiple levels and I think I should revisit it more

#musings #kirby #no the reasons don't begin and end with 'dark meta knight is playable' #but that is a very big reason #to expand on it i think the dlc dream friends were amazingly designed #they still fit into the structure and playstyle of a playable kirby character but they also still feel like bosses #using dmk as an example they took his boss fight from triple deluxe and made it into a playable character #preserving most of his moves and adding new ones in the same vein #before unlocking dmk i played as marx and was surprised by how faithful he felt to his boss fight #and of course being able to augment these characters' movesets with elemental upgrades makes it even better #guest star allies was a great addition because if i want to i can play through the whole game in one sitting #as dark meta knight with fire powers #that's like my ideal kirby experience right there #did i mention the dlc was all free and very well-crafted? #that's not a given nowadays so i'm very appreciative of that #i also like the mage sisters and the lore implications the game offers #fransisca and flamberge are quite possibly the first lesbians in a kirby game #and they're ALSO playable! with their full boss movesets! #you can even tag out to the other elemental nuns whenever you want #so they're three very strong characters in one package #i seriously need to finish completing my save file in star allies so i can just start up a dmk or mage sisters run whenever i want #that would be nice i think #but of course because of the main mechanic being related to having teammates i can bring both characters with me #including in other guest star allies runs #because if i want to i can just ride their back and control them that way #i wonder how easy it would be to cheese a hard guest star allies run by piggybacking off an op dream friend
