. * early days !

the only memory santiago has of his family is os his siblings running through a green pasture; he can remember the soft feeling of his mother's lap underneath his cheek, and the way her fingers ran through his hair. the sound of little children laughing haunts his dreams, but there's not a single face in sight. the people in his memory are nothing but blurred sillouettes, ghosts of people he once knew, of the child he once was. the orphanage, though, of that his memories are crystal clear: the beating, the fear, the hope that somebody would come and rescue him, and then the subsequently disapointment once he grew old enough to understand that nobody would. and then, nanuvut. the cold was somehow worse than the beatings, worse than the physical training that took and took and took from him until santi was nothing but a shell of the smiley kid he'd once been. killing is all that he knows, but santiago has never been at peace with it. he's familiar with death, has given it his entire life and soul, but it has never been something he enjoyed, something he got used to it. despite all the training, his handlers have never been able to supress his kind soul and gentle ways— nature vs. nurture, santiago being the living proof that there are some things nothing can ever truly change. all he wants is some peace and quiet, a life away from all of the decay and violence; a herb garden far away from the city, a sunlit kitchen and a big library to ruffle through. his dreams of tranquility have yet to come: when all you know is the underbelly of chaos, the rotten people and monsters, no other place feels like home.

. * recent years !

santiago tried leaving; at twenty-three, he tried to hang up his guns and become a regular, law-abiding citizen. and he didsurprisingly well. santiago went as far as graduating college, a major in psychology, and those were the best four years of his life. he partied, and he fell in love, and for the first time since he could remember, santi felt truly free. like he could finally be himself, like the blood on his hands had finally washed away. he settled down, and married a nice girl. his dreams of a suburbia life iwth white picket fences and a big slobbering dog were so close to become a reality he could barely believe it. a month after his marriage, another operative showed up. the operative -- probably a mercenary, santiago figured -- destroyed his home, tied his doe-eyed wife to a chair and ripped every single one of her nail before he got home from work. the message was clear: he was to return willingly to the red eye and fufill his purpose, or they would force his hand and the punishments for it would be devastating. his wife survived, but the trauma was too much. it ruined their marriage faster than anything else ever could, and santiago saw no other option but to return to his handlers with his tail between his legs. the corporeal punishments and risky missions were nothing compared to the feeling of falure, and santiago found solace in drowning himself in liquor, white lines and all sorts of chemicals that he could get his hands on. it started to affect his job, and santiago got slippery. more than once, the organization had to step in to prevent him from going to jail. considering his large death toll, santiago was giving a single chance: if he didn't get his act cleaned up, he could be terminated. as it turned out, santiago's destructive behavior was meant as self-sabotage, not as suicidal tendencies, and his self-preservation instincts took over. after a hellish period of going in and out of rehab, santiago has been somewhat clean; he hasn't exactly dropped the alcohol, though his black outs have stopped getting in the way of his work, and he's gone cold turkey on any narcotics. a functioning alcoholic, a friend called him once. it was good enough for the red eye, in the end.

. * wanted connections !

a best friend ; the only person in the world that santi trusts. he's not one to give himself lighty, but this person has proven time and time again that they're his ride or die. ( 0 / 1 )

an old friend ; someone that was in the orphanage with him. maybe they get along, maybe they hate each other, this dynamic can be played in any sort of way. ( 0 / ?? )

friends of all kinds ; santiago can be kind of closed off, but as it turns out he can be quite friendly once you push through that, so he probably gets along with this person pretty well. ( 0 / ?? )

an ex ; ever since his marriage, santi has big issues with commitment. in his life of work, he knows having a partner is a weaklink, something people can use against you. they cared for each other deeply, but once things got started to get serious, santiago jumped ship, probably in the worst way possible. ( 0 / 1 )

a protegé ; there's something about this person that just makes santiago's instincts bubble up. it's someone he'd kill and die to protect, and has been working on teaching them as many of his own skills as he possibly can. bonus points if this is someone that can handle their own better than he ever could, but he insists that they need help anyways. ( 0 / 1 )

the enemy ; santiago has made many enemies along the way ; he's quite blunt, and despite not enjoying violence, he does resort to it whenever needed. they've probably come blow to blow at some point before, and it doesn't get better. ( 0 / 1 )

the bad influence ; santiago's a very strict, logical person. he doesn't do things on whims, and certainly doesn't partake in reckless behavior very often. this is someone with whom santi's first instinct is to be “well, what the hell!” and he’ll do things he normally wouldn’t, be that go to a rave late at night, do the hard drugs he's supposedly given up years ago or just eat that greasy bacon cheeseburger that might give him a heart attack. the protective friend ; there’s nothing santiago doest best than taking care of people. in return, no one really takes care of him. except for this person, who’s there for him when he breaks down, who would go head first into a bar fight to watch his six and just doesn’t fuck around when it comes to calling santiago out on his bullshit. aka "EVERY JOKE/EASTER EGG IN ONE DAY YOU'LL WISH YOU HADN'T"

I'm putting it under a read more because it's long af (because... my dumbass.... makes a lot of jokes. if u didn't notice.)

chapter one: wish (soraka r)

“Not a single sign that the Rift’s champions, those gods amongst men, had ever been there at all.”

This was a vague reference to Damwon’s championship skins where they had wanted to appear as gods coming down from the heavens, if I remember correctly.

“And Faker would never be enough of a fool to trust someone who once lived in his shadow.”

Faker is (kind of) Zed in this au, so this is secretly a joke. ha ha.

chapter two: you and me (yuumi w) (get it? because meiko's skin is yuumi? i'm not funny ahahahah)

“Hmm,” Jiejie begins, his eyes wandering as he thinks. “I think Meiko would have wished for something to make him an even better support than he already is. Viper probably wished that he’d never miss a shot, and Flandre definitely wished for some magic that’s better than that smoke thing he does. That, or to be able to do this his entire life. Who knows?”

Two out of three isn't bad :)

“But Jiejie,” Scout says, intentionally mispronouncing his name. “How can you even be tired?”

I explained this in the end notes already, but Scout pronounces Jiejie’s name like 姐姐, which means older sister. Credit to my friend that only referred to Jiejie as “big sister” all throughout Worlds 2021. Bro is gonna fail Chinese III.

“Breathe, Yechan. Breathe.”

I’m pretty sure Scout is the only one to be referred to by his real name by his teammates, if you don’t count the introductions in the first EG fic. Generally, I try to avoid their real names, since it starts to feel a bit awkward once I’m writing about Ryu Minseok and not Keria or something. It’s too personal for me.

(Edit a few days later: I forgot about Miky but c’mon, I was not about to refer to him as “Mikyx” the entire fic)

chapter three: end of the line (graves q)

“He plays Teamfight Tactics until he sees stars when he blinks.”

Perhaps in this universe Riot Games is truly a small indie company…

“Scout tries to scream, but without the room to expand his chest, all that comes out is the faintest whine.”

This was tested to make sure it was an accurate depiction. I got sleep paralysis once when my sister was audibly on a call in the room over. I tried to scream. Didn’t work. The sound I made was actually very embarrassing. (it is ok to laugh at me for my sleep paralysis experiences. they are funny in hindsight. for more tips on how to handle sleep paralysis just hmu)

“We’ll go to Europe, then. I’ve heard there’s a retired Summoner that can suppress someone’s abilities. Maybe he’ll be able to suppress the Rift’s blessing as well.”

Some of you (by which i mean aryasage) caught it already, but this is a reference to Caedrel. In a different version, Scout’s response is, “No, he’ll just cancel it.”

chapter four: moonlight vigil (aphelios r)

“He’s not stupid—he knows what sleep deprivation does to people. (He’s read the Russian sleep experiment creepypasta, after all.)”

Somehow I doubt he would have been able to get his hands on that one, but whatever. Either way it’s kind of terrifying, and if it was true, this fic would go in a very different direction. Would not recommend it if you're scared easily or if you spend too much time thinking about everything that could go wrong.

“Telling the whole story to the rest of his team is quite possibly the hardest thing Scout’s ever done, if he ignores the past week or so.”

“You look like shit.”

In a different version, Scout absolutely snaps at Jiejie and then proceeds to verbally and emotionally obliterate him. I kind of wish I had been able to keep it in, since I thought it was kind of fun in a “haha angst goes brrr” kind of way, but it didn’t really fit in with the rest of the chapter.

“Scout sniffs, gratefully accepting the tissue someone hands him. He’s been going through a lot of those lately, despite it being November.”

Is there even a no-nut November equivalent in China??? Either way I thought I was hilarious in the moment.

“Forcibly inducing sleep (aka punching Scout in the head) is out too once Viper mentions brain damage, even if Meiko insists he can fix it.”

They don’t test this theory, but Meiko is 100% confident that his magic can repair brain damage. In the end, they decide it’s not worth finding out.

ppau leak: this comes up later

I spent thirty minutes googling how to meditate just to write this chapter. Worth.

“Scout tries to respond. His body doesn’t move an inch. Somewhat deliriously, he imagines himself as a meme. Aw, shit. Here we go again.”

‘“You need to relax.” Jiejie leans forward, holding two fingers to Scout’s head. “And trust me. Do you trust me?”’

Jiejie quotes Evelynn here for no other reason than He Can.

chapter five: harrowed path (viego e)

“Forgiveness is a bitch, and so am I.”

My English teacher wouldn’t let me use this line in my personal essay, so I put it here instead.

“It’s then that Scout realizes they’ve been moved from the couch to someone’s room, where two twin beds have been haphazardly shoved close to each other.”

Brief History:

Not much is known about his earlier life. However, he lived in Sharlayan for a significant amount of time as a low profile arcanist.

Was secretly banished from Sharlayan for [redacted].

Went to Ishgard since he had some contacts there, making it easier to hide from [redacted]. However, due to starting over completely and relying on those contacts, he owes a major amount of debt that he pays off with his special ability, [redacted].

At some point during this, he becomes an Astrologian.

After the Dragonsong War, he travelled around more often, figuring it's safe to do so after the time he spent in Ishgard. He still revisits Ishgard to deal with his remaining few debts every so often.

Eulalia!!! I love her<3 could you tell us more about her? I am not always on so I think I missed a few things?

You probably haven't missed much, I honestly haven't posted too much about her bcuz it's taken me ages to create a character I'm happy with lmao.

I've very bad when it comes to General questions, so I have decided to just loredump a lil bit and give the basics of her character lkflkdskl if u wanna know anything more specific pls hmu and I shall ramble some more.

Also brief tw about Eulàlia's backstory: Ableism (specifically about being deaf/HOH) and you could imply child neglect. It's also important to note my writing wrt to ableism and her family being awful due to her hearing is based on my personal experiences about the bad treatment I experienced from adults due to my hearing as a child, I'm not just some hearing person who thought it would be neat to write about a deaf character facing ableism.

Eulàlia has the basics from the Cousland origin in DAO, daughter of the highest nobility, has an older brother who's destined to inherit all the title and land, she, being a younger daughter, kinda only exists to eventually get married off and y'know, just be a Pretty Noble Wife.

My recent idea has kinda taken that in a slightly different direction. For one, I'm playing with the idea of Eulàlia being elf-blooded. I haven't decided whether she has a different parent, or whether she was adopted. In either case, the thought is her parents really wanted a daughter, yknow, someone who can go fancy events, mingle with other nobles, be kinda the pretty visual associated with the Cousland family. So they ended up with Eulàlia, and even if she's not fully Cousland blood they were happy because they got what they wanted right?

Well, things got complicated when Eulàlia went deaf as an infant. Which was upsetting to her parents because it wasn't in line with this ideal they had for a daughter. And while Eulàlia grew up completely fine and happy being deaf, it wasn't the visual her parents wanted. So, now instead of some Completely Perfect Beautiful Daughter We Can Marry Off, now they started to see Eulàlia as something that tarnished their reputation.

So now begins Eulàlia's life as a sort of forced recluse. The more she grows up the less she is the ideal daughter her parents had wanted, her parents realize they didn't really want a daughter they wanted something pretty to show off. She wants to use weapons instead of go to parlors, she wants to marry a woman instead of a man, her elven heritage is noticeable with her ears if she doesn't cover them. More and more of a rift grows between her and her parents, and Eulàlia spends her days fantasizing about running away to the sea.

In my default worldstate, I actually have it that Eulàlia isn't a warden. Instead, the night Castle Cousland falls, Eulàlia had planned to finally run away. During this escape, she encounters Howe's guards starting their attack and she has to fight through to escape. She flees to Denerim, and lurks around the docks desperately trying to get someone to allow her on their ship. No one takes her up except, of course, Isabela.

So when the Blight hits in full force, Eulàlia, Isabela, and my Tabris (long story there, but essentially instead of my Tabris being saved from execution by Duncan of the Grey Wardens, they're saved by a random do-gooder lesbian and her bisexual pirate captain) sail off and end up in Kirkwall. And I imagine that after the events of Kirkwall, Isabela and Eulàlia sail off together as pirate wives. Love wins. [also in this worldstate my Tabris gets together with Merrill so love wins and autism wins, we love to see it].

but more than all this, ive been in a silent hill mood recently ( trying to play it on ps4 but the only version is on freaking ps now and im not paying monthly for a game i already own) so because of that im thinking what if luxu was in silent hill? what would he see them as? people who go from human to monsters the longer hes there? Maybe just normal people who look like monsters to him as Eddie suggests in silent hill 2? There's a nice little bit of sanity questioning in that idea. What about becoming more uncanny the longer luxu looks at them? what would they do to him? would they see him as a person? treat him accordingly? or would they see him as a sin based monster, just like they are?

Invi is going first because she's the hardest to think of ideas for me. I've never been REALLY jealous of someone so I don't really know how it feels. To me, she gets more and more insufferable the longer she's there, refuses to leave luxu alone with the others because she wants to monopolize his time. She becomes more controlling and paranoid as the days wittle on. when shes around, the other world is filled with vines and barbed wire that blocks Luxu's path. he can hardly move for the stuff, it grows back right after he cuts it and seems to just get thicker and thicker every time he blinks. her otherworld is like a maze and shes determined to make luxu dependent on her to get through it. at the center invi is no longer human; jealousy has driven her mad and twisted her into something resembling a Lamia crossed with a dyrad. So controlling shes practically merged with her surroundings. With all the plant material she's practically green (with envy badumtss) If she was a game i think she'd be like Sepulchre from silent hill 4. she needs to be cut away from the vines that hold her and dropped into a pit to put her out of her misery

how does monster invi fuck? : well like a snake oddly enough. she twists herself around luxu until his ribs start to crack under the pressure. She wants his focus on her and her alone. i wouldnt be surpised if she could pull some sort of mind bending tricks like Kaa from jungle book; make luxu blind to all the danger aound him, put him in his happy place so he doesnt realise hes surrounded by monsters or that invi isnt human anymore. Hypnosis kink folks come get ya juice. I was going to give her 2 dicks or something but i think two tongues might be more interesting and not as over played. i mentioned she looks like a lamia but dont think that means shes got an entirely human face. shes all eyes and teeth and a mouth that has more than one way of opening, maybe something like mileena with the teeth. I can see why shes jealous of everyone and everything, i wouldnt like to look like that either.

Ira

silent hill is already a grotesquely violent place but something else seems to be eating at human ira. hes hearing voices whisper to him, sounds coming from behind walls that no one else seems to hear. hes usually slow to anger but now hes lashing out at everything, blaming luxu for all of it. Luxu really doesnt see it coming the first time Ira hits him, but it's certainly not the last.

iras otherworld seems to be out for luxu's fucking blood. everything is trying to hurt him, from the toxic plants, to the boiling water and every monster that seems to have a ping on his exact location. not to mention monster Ira. Strangly for the embodyment of wrath, hes sitting quite calmly in the middle of the street looking horrific. if i had to describe my mental image it would be akin to Goro from motal combat meets Resident evils crimson heads/lickers. Ira's helmet/mask has fused to his face, welded to his skin that's chapped and red raw around the edges. bone sticks from all angles of his body like armour. Around him are Plies of rotting corpses in various degrees of mutilation : luxu can't tell if they were human or monster. Now alone and with no one else to take it out on he seems to have turned his volence on himself, pulling chunks of skin from muscle until he's practically flayed himself alive. whether or not this monster can actually feel pain is anyones guess. in game i think he'd be too big to fight directly. You would need to trick him into one of the dangerous environment settings like the boiling lake Toluca or into the gas station before setting it alight.

How does monster Ira fuck? its less fucking and more slow murder with a lot of hip thrusting. Size difference galore in this fucked up pairing folks. think of that blood scene from AHS: Hotel except ira is now 3 times the size and has twice as many arms as normal. i think its less he wants to fuck the lust monster and more he wants to fuck him up. I'm sure I could sit here and wax lyrical about the relationship between sex, violence and death but it is 1130pm at time of writing and I'm tired. its a good thing you cant really die in silent hill ( well relativly speaking) because luxu would have been snu-snu'd to death several times over where Ira is concerned.

Aced

So aced was another difficult one because how exactly does your sloth affect others in the immediate. Since the word his name comes from in Latin means "without care" I'm choosing to interpret him as becoming completely apathetic towards luxu. He doesn't care he's in silent hill, he doesn't care the others are monsters and he certainly doesn't care to help luxu if he's hurt or being attacked. He just gets worse and worse until he doesn't even care to move, sitting down and becoming some hibernating bear.

Aced's otherworld is filled with goo and sludge, something like pure tar that slows luxu's movements to a crawl, makes running impossible. This isn't only dangerous because luxu can't escape from incoming monsters, but also because every movement requires so much effort that it's almost easier to just lay down and let the goo consume you. His powers remind me of the apathy Grimm from rwby. Fighting him would probably be a timed fight in game. I can see the environment changing like goo flooding into the room to slow you and eventually drown you. Aced himself is now almost a statue barely able to move. He's not as horrifc to look at as the others but the paniked way his eyes follow luxu is saying something disturbing. Monster boss Aced won't lift a finger to attack you, he's more of an environment obstacle boss and is non hostile. But also will he not lift a finger to help: he won't stand off the drain to save both himself and luxu from drowning and he won't use his size or strength to help luxu navigate the room faster. His apathy is essentially dooming them both.

How does monster aced fuck? Assuming he can, maybe in some Inbetween stage before losing all humanity, he seems like the kind of creature to get the other person to do all the work.perhals he employs an aphrodisiac, since sloth is failing to take action it could be a diddling while Rome burns sort of thing.i think he lies there and they bounce on his lap, he falls asleep as soon as he's done, fails to take action for his partner. Or on the flip side, maybe he's into sleep sex, drowsy half awake fucking, luxu's not quite sure if he's dreaming or not.

Gula

So I came up with a design for gula first but everything else after. Gula in silent hill is super selfish. He won't share information, supplies or even safe space with the others. He eventually resorts to stealing things from Luxu like the keys he needs to traverse silent hills many locked doors. Gulas other world is a literal trash heap, a junkyard filled with things he could never hope to use but still refuses to part with. The further in luxu goes the more the mounds of stuff become fleshy, as we see they become mounds of food. Gula has become this gangling zombie, thin as a rake but constantly gorging himself on anything he can get his hands on, animal or human, living or dead

Here's the problem with Gulas design. I wanted him to be influenced by w#ndigo psychosis, the actual disease/illness but not by w#ndigos themselves. I want him to have a wraith like look without looking like an antlered deer and I want him to be fleshy because he's based on a leopard ( which will often leave their dead pray in trees for a few days) not because of most depictions of w#ndigos as covered in blood. I have a design in my head I just don't want it to cross any lines. And I definitely dont Wana rehash previous w#ndigo type designs

i know nothing abt detective conan apart from what was established in the two lupin crossover specials. enlighten me

OH BOY u activated Ultimate Hyperfixation mode thank u... it's So Much. iirc the specials established the basics; high school detective Shinichi Kudo, somewhat well known as the "modern era sherlock holmes" was on a date outing with his childhood best friend, Ran Mouri, to the local amusement park. While there (and after solving a murder), he noticed two shady dudes dressed in all black, followed them, saw one of them doin crimes, then got brained by the other one w/a metal pipe sdjfgsk. the men in black gave him an experimental drug (APTX 4869, which is also a sherlock holmes pun (shi ha ro kyu)) said to kill without a trace. but! little did anyone know, it has a rare side effect of Turning You Into A Child instead of dying and that's what happened to shinichi sdkjfgsdf. (this might not actually be a side effect. the prototype drug might be an attempt to make a drug that makes u immortal. maybe.) He decided to ask if he could live with Ran and her dad, Kogoro Mouri(a disgraced ex-cop private detective) bc he thought that if he was in a detective agency, he could more easily find the ppl who did this to him! he named himself Conan Edogawa in a panic after being backed into a bookshelf (Arthur Conan Doyle and Edogawa Ranpo books, naturally). For a while, Conan ends up following Kogoro to any cases he's on (and the Random Murders they run into almost daily), knocking Kogoro out with an anesthesia-laced needle hidden in his watch and using a voice changer to solve the cases as Kogoro (this turns Kogoro into a minor celebrity: the Sleeping Kogoro, named bc he looks like he's sleeping when he's solving cases (he is sleeping actually. sdkjfgsd)) It starts slowly coming to light that the men who attacked Shinichi are a part of some larger Evil Organization with hands in corruption, illegal weapons trade, assassinations, u name it. Also they're all named after different kinds of alcohols (hard liquor for the men, diff kinds of wines for the women iirc) (the two who attacked shinichi are called Gin and Vodka)! One day a girl shows up at his neighbor's (Professor Hiroshi Agasa, the first person who knows that Shinichi is Conan) house, and eventually introduces herself as Sherry, the creator of the drug that shrunk him. she betrayed the org after they killed her sister (which conan was present for), and took the drug herself and escaped from where they were holding her when she too turned into a child. Now she's goin by Ai Haibara and is working to try and reverse-engineer an antidote for the two of them! There's also a group of Actual Kids who latched onto Conan and Haibara bc "Wow these two are smart and cool!" :] they formed the Detective Boys and they love going out and solving cases (and unfortunately see their fair share of murders :( ) As far as like the Main Cast (so many ppl) I'd narrow it down 2 probably Shinichi/Conan, Ran, n Kogoro! but also when u look up "detective conan main characters" the wiki page has a promotional image with like 43 ppl on it so. i'd also include heiji hattori (another high school detective, and the first one to figure conan out. they're besties now), professor agasa, and the detective boys :] the series has a general "monster of the week" format with a LOT of non-directly-plot relevant cases b4 kinda just. slamming so much plot that has been slowly setting up onto u in a Big Confrontation sdfhskjdg its like the kind where when u get there u go OHHH THAT WAS FORESHADOWING AUUUGH but then nothing big happens for another 100 chapters so sjdkgfjksdhskbs ALSO IT'S LONG AS FUCK I SHOULD MENTION THAT ongoing since 1994 babeyyyy getting close to 1100 chapters. pain BUT i do kinda love that for it. it's so long and theres SO many characters but that means nearly every reoccuring character is gonna get SOME kind of arc and growth as a person which is cool! like yeah there's A Lot but i feel like it does a p good job of juggling that big cast of ppl :] a lot of wild shit goes on like. there's sooo much backstory for some of the characters n so many connections between them it makes my brain

happy drawing lines between characters and bein like okay so you're connected to this person bc of THIS person and so on and so forth. also i think within the first 1/4 it's kinda just "hm smthn shady going on" and then suddenly the fbi is just. there. i think it's outright stated that they don't have permission from the japanese government to be there either. ALSO there's so many british ppl for some reason??? i mean i know why (sher lock holms) but it's still really funny to see some of these characters n b like. if u were speaking english u would have a thick british accent. oh should probably mention magic kaito too. so magic kaito was an earlier series by the same author focusing on kaito kuroba, a high schooler magician who ends up becoming a phantom thief (the kaitou KID) while evading a mysterious shady organization, trying to find out who killed his father (the og KID), and also trying to find a gemstone that supposedly makes u immortal? magic kaito got HEAVILY sidelined when detco started (and got way more popular) but the author made kaito a reoccuring character within detco, making them set in the same universe. now it feels like rather than writing for magic kaito, the author just writes a KID heist in detco skdjfgskjd (<- crying in "magic kaito hasn't updated in 3 years") this is like. mostly fine. except real magic explicitly exists in magic kaito (one of his classmates is a witch) which does kinda clash with the Mostly Grounded In Reality murder mysteries of detco sdjkfgsd

OH YEAH also the dub/localization was called Case Closed and they tried to Americanize it. Shinichi's name got changed to Jimmy Kudo sdkjgsdkfsdjskd i would watch the dub just bc from what ive seen it's venturing into "so cheesy it's hilarious" territory but it made me cringe so bad when i tried skjdfhsjkd despite my best efforts... i cannot handle Jimmy. THANK U AGAIN 4 THE ASK i hope that was somewhat coherent!!
