Hey! I was sent an ask awhile ago inquiring about a possible Discord server for PATFW and I thought it was a GREAT IDEA! Community is more fun when you can directly chat with each other, even though I do love the Romeo and Juliet letters my anons will sometimes send to each other through me.
As someone who's also not reading the - what is it now, 6500 word long screed? - about Edelgard Good Actually because fuck that, I just need to say you're providing an invaluable fandom service. Seeing someone who's able to stand in the face of a sealioning and laugh back is encouraging, and makes it a lot more obvious who's the problem with this discussion.
It's actually a bit horrible how so much of their discourse mirrors a radicalization pipeline, actually. Start with the seemingly- normal takes, get closer to your target, add on increasingly unhinged fanon and reinterpretations of the text taken as gospel, then just overwhelm with sheer 3000-word-long essays if anyone honestly tries to talk back. I've already lost one friend to the radicals (before they ironically realized Imperialism Bad after the events of 2022), and all of this absolutely discourages me from recommending the Fodlan games to anyone else in the future, despite how fond I am of them.
MAYBE one day in the future when people have reading comprehension again, I can have a normal geek out with someone over how the 3H games are just really fun modern adaptations of Romance of the Three Kingdoms (which makes it hilarious they were made half by KOEI). Ah well. One day.
I am fueled by spite and rage towards these people who straight up harassed multiple people out of the fandom, so I welcome any opportunity to clown on them. Especially Raxis. Fuck him, lol.
I think someone else has explained it more clearly, but it's cult tactics they're using. There is immediately an "us vs them" mentality. You are with us or you are against us. Being with them makes you a bad person. It means we can harass you, and if you call us out on this, then that means you're just one of them and an enemy. It's why their discord server has you walking on eggshells. One wrong word and you're labelled a filthy edelcrit/mooner.
Maybe they'll realize how fucking stupid they are and give it up. Or maybe the fandom has had enough and starts cracking down on them in fandom spaces.
Karter had finished the last few books he'd taken from the library, surprised by the weird variety there had been, most likely not having noticed it before, when he had visited it often. He had left a book by Peter Perring Thoms by the front desk as well as a few histories, walking now again through the history section. His mind had left the architecture phase that it had dived into before the holidays and had gone to woodworking for most of the month but now it was back on random facts from history and so he had decided to take a few more he'd asked to make sure were here.
With "A History of Warfare" and "The Tomb of Tutankhamen", which he was sure Amy would approve of, and was now looking towards the only, as told by the woman at the front desk, copy of "A Chronicle of England, B.C. 55 - A.D. 1485." He spent quite a while looking through the shelves and then as he had been told it was still here and no one had checked it out, he turned around and looked through the people sitting on the tables with faces buried in books. Sliding by a woman who had what he needed, he opened one of his books, as if ready to sit and read, leaning a bit forward with a smile. "Hey! Do you have a lot more to read? I would totally love to have that one once you're done... and if you won't check it out. Then I will totally need your number so I can ask when you return it."
