Chapter Warnings: spoilers for 2x02, swearing but that’s part of the show idk why you would be surprised by that

“Okay. Laptop. Charger. Keys. Coffee. Shoes. Shoes!”

For some reason, you were a mess this morning. You had been repeating your list of things you needed over and over again and yet every time you kept discovering something else you had forgotten. Your bag lay half-packed on the couch as you ran around like a chicken with its head cut off in pursuit of your shoes. Seriously, how the fuck did you lose the shoes you had grabbed from your closet just a minute ago?

That’s because they were in your hands.

Sighing, you pulled on the sensible flats and took another moment to look around your room and list out all the things you needed for work today. The TV played in a lone drone behind you and you turned your head to see This Morning playing. Philip and Holly were interviewing some guy from that one reality show.

“What about Amy? Are you going to wait for her?” Holly asked.

“Nah, no. I was just playing a game, know what I mean?” the guy replied. Christ, was that Jamie Tartt? It was, wasn’t it. “Find the fittest girl there, have sex with her in the toilet, ask her to marry you. Strategy.”

“Wow,” you drawled before you shut off the TV. “He’s a piece of shit.”

You headed for the door and quickly backtracked. You almost forgot your entire bag and the leftovers from the shoot you had last night. Ugh, you needed more coffee.

You were scrolling through TikTok in search of a new trend to use for a Richmond video when all five foot two inches of your boss came bursting into your office.

“Oh, sorry! I should have knocked. Get your bag, babes, we’re going to lunch,” she exclaimed. “There’s this cafe that’s a ten minute walk from here and they’ve got the best coffee.”

You knew better than to argue with the pure ball of energy that was Keeley Jones. In the short time you’ve known her, you loved the beaming blonde. She and Rebecca were infectious in their laughter, light, and kindness. When you first interviewed, you were intimidated by the two women, but you quickly learned that they were goofy as hell and always down to gossip.

Grabbing your purse, you dutifully followed Keeley through the maze of hallways. She passed the locker room without a second glance, but you made sure to peek over your shoulder to see a few of the guys streaming out of the doors.

“Yo, Keeley!” someone called. She spun around and waved at whoever yelled and then grabbed your hand, pulling you over to talk to a few of the guys.

“Hi Isaac! Have you met our new social media manager yet? She’s gonna be the one making you all look sexy on the Gram now,” she announced. You offered them a tentative smile and the large man in front of you beamed.

“Isaac McAdoo,” he introduced. You gave him your name in turn and then cleared your throat. You weren’t as charismatic or bubbly as Keeley, but you were trying to make more of an effort. Your last job was filled with a few passive aggressive comments thrown over cubicle walls and then bossa nova jazz everyday. No one had been chatty or nice the way everyone was at Richmond.

“I’ve actually been meaning to set up meetings with all the players,” you explained. “My job is to handle the team’s socials, but I also want to integrate the players' ideas and individual brands. I’d also like to know if anyone is working with a management team so I can coordinate with them on certain posts.”

“Isn’t she fucking brilliant?” Keeley exclaimed.

Isaac puffed out his chest and flexed his biceps. “As long as you make us look good, then I’m in.”

Keeley patted you on the shoulder. “We should get going to lunch, but check your email soon. I’ll make sure we can coordinate times to meet.”

“Awesome. Nice to meet you!” He darted off to go talk to someone else and Keeley slid her arm into the crook of yours so she could lead you out of the building and down the road.

“Isaac’s all bark and no bite unless you’re on the field,” she explained. “Sam is an absolute sweetie and Colin is darling. Richard is my go-to when I need to know a wine pairing and Zoreaux is a beast at Dance Dance Revolution. Bumbercatch is…”

Keeley listed off all the players on the team and you tried to keep a mental catalog of everything she said, but it was making your head spin. You were grateful once she stopped outside a small cafe that was indeed a short walk from Nelson Road. A simple vanilla latte and a chicken cobb salad was your order while Keeley got a complicated drink and a wrap.

The owner, Alex, handed the two of you your drinks and you turned with the intention of finding a table to wait for the food when Keeley stopped short. Some guy stood half-obscured by the plant shelves, but he stepped out once he realized he caught Keeley’s attention.

“Jamie?!” she exclaimed.

“I-I’m not stalking ya,” he blurted out. “I’ve been following you for, like, a few blocks now and I couldn’t text ya because I deleted your number.”

As he rambled on, his words started to fade in and out as you took him in. His slicked back hair made him look like a corny Godfather character and the all black ensemble didn’t help. You could understand why people fawned over him with that strong jaw and blue eyes, but as his lips moved all you could hear was his smarmy talk from the show this morning. 

“So, yeah, I’ve been following you for the last few blocks. No, I’m lying. I’ve been following you for your whole lunch hour. But I’ve just been trying to build up the courage to say hi…so…hi.” His voice trailed off and he shrugged.

“That’s, like, the definition of stalking,” you murmured which drew his attention to you. Jamie Tartt was starting to feel like a bad omen that was following you around.

“Hi, sorry. Jamie Tartt.” He offered you a cocky smile that you recognized from the TV that morning and you merely glanced down at his outstretched hand. You had no idea where that hand had been. Raising a single eyebrow, you let your gaze trail up from his hand to his face.

“I’ll go find us a table,” you said to Keeley before you brushed past him and found an empty table by the window. You always loved sitting by the window and watching the world pass by. You could make up stories about the people that passed by. Like the lady walking two poodles. Maybe she was some CEO or maybe she was an undercover agent. That would be sick as hell.

“Sorry about that, babe,” Keeley apologized. She placed your salad in front of you and then took the seat across from you. “Now, I just want to say that your idea about meeting all the players? Brilliant. Absolutely fucking brilliant. When we get back to the office, we can set up a calendar for everyone to schedule a time to meet with you. How’s that sound?”

“That’s great. I really love working here.” You looked towards the door where Jamie Tartt was heading out of, a coffee clutched in his hand. He glanced back at the table you were sitting at and you immediately looked away and back at Keeley. You offered her a tight smile and nodded along to whatever she was saying.

Hopefully that was the last time you would ever see Jamie Tartt.

do you think anybody else transfers? i've seen speculation for both q and yanna but idk it seems unlikely and if it was anybody else that would really surprise me

twitter is saying that maybe ines and amari got asked to leave so we can have more scholarship spots open for the transfer portal do we think that's true

now that we have scholarship spots who do you want and do you think it'll be two forwards or a guard and forward (that timea gardiner option looks pretty great)

I don't think anyone else is going to transfer. Q seems pretty adamant on how much she loves this team and Ayanna transferring right after an injury also seems unlikely. Everybody else is pretty much locked in as you said.

It could probably be a bit of both? A little push from the coaching staff and their own desire for actual playing time. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a little bit of that but in the end, I think it's good for everyone involved.

Personally, I want two forwards, specifcally someone 6'5+. Timea Gardiner would be nice but I'm also curious to see who else ends up there (here's looking at you Kiki). But we really, really need frontcourt players. Jana hasn't played a season and achilles injuries are rough and putting that much pressure on her is just not a good idea. Same goes for Ayanna. We don't know when Aubrey will be back. And while I have immense faith in Sarah, again putting pressure on a freshmen is not the ideal scenario. So I really need us to get some experienced frontcourt players like we did with Dorka.

I think it's always a possibility but I don't think so. I think it's hard for Geno to guarantee her a starting position and I'm sure wherever she goes, that's one of her expectations. However, I'm actually not completely against us getting another guard. I do think we need to focus on forwards but honestly an experienced guard wouldn't hurt. Beyond Paige, our backcourt (whole team really) is missing a fair amount of experience. Azzi's likely to be on limited minutes to start and I'm not fully sure about Caroline either. Obviously KK and Ash have proven themselves but they're still just only sophomores. And obviously the freshmen are the freshmen. I don't think having a strong experienced guard would hurt but the focus should still be on getting a big, and I don't think Kaitlyn Chen is the right option.

ok so this is for the headcanon asks from @yanna-banana @wkndwlff and @mizbytomic. Tumblr deleted the asks (probably because they sat unanswered for so long, my bad :/) so im doing it this way. I hope you like them. Sorry for taking so long, but thank you for submitting :)

A random headcanon - You were the one to convince Jake to become a pilot. He somehow thought he was too old and undeserving, and his father was still slightly putting pressure on him to run the company even though the contract was broken, but you wouldn’t let up, so he agreed to try. 

A family headcanon - Caleb was technically an accident. Wanted, but still, unplanned, and you were terrified you were going to be a horrible mother. You just didn’t trust in your abilities. So Jake created a bedtime routine where you listed all the reasons you would be a wonderful mother before trying to list any reasons why you wouldn’t be. By the time you finished listing the good reasons, the bad ones didn’t make any sense, and you realized it was just your nerves taking over. When Jake was deployed for part of your pregnancy, he made you promise to keep up the routine, and you did. 

A sick headcanon - Jake goes absolutely crazy when his kids are sick. So much so that his constant panic and hovering probably makes them feel worse, but you don't have the heart to tell him to stop fussing over them. You have to make him come to bed otherwise he will sit beside them all night.

A drunk headcanon - You don't get drunk very often. You're still embarrassed about the first time you did when you kissed him, even though Jake thinks of that day fondly and tells you often. Jake, on the other hand, has no issue getting drunk when someone else is watching his kids and he just wants to have some fun. It doesn't happen too incredibly often, but when it does, he's always extremely cuddly and won't stop touching you regardless of where you are or who you're around.

A birthday headcanon - For your first birthday after you were married, Jake bought you an engagement ring. It never felt right giving you one when you were in the contract because he would’ve been scrambling to find something that he couldn’t be sure you’d even like, and it probably would’ve been awkward. Your wedding bands were rather simple, and while he loved them, he wanted you to finally have a diamond. Ever since then, he liked to gift you diamond jewelry when he could. 

A secret wish headcanon - (gotta be honest, not quite sure what this means, but i’m gonna guess (and please correct me if i am wrong) something they secretly want? It was either that or something I secretly want for them, but I’m going with the former) 

Jake secretly wants five babies. He’s pretty sure you’ll never go for it though, because you’re basically thirty when you have your daughter. 

A fighting headcanon - You hadn’t seen Jake’s sisters since you were a kid. They weren’t able to make it your wedding, so the next time you really spoke to them was after you were already married. They unintentionally teased the both of you and made light of the whole contract situation, and Jake lost it, refusing to speak to them for almost a year until you urged him to. While you were out of the contract, the topic was still sensitive, and Jake didn’t let anyone outside of the two of you talk about it. He considered it in the past and he wanted to keep it there. 

An unexpected headcanon - Jason got married five years after you did and he invited you to the wedding. You didn’t know why he did but you went anyway. He had turned his life around and you didn’t have any hate towards him, so you figured it was the right thing to do. Jake was grumpy about it until Jason approached you both and handed you an envelope that contained a check for the 20k Jake paid him years prior.

yanna was in the middle of renjun and mark, gushing about how cute jisung was as the mc.

the camera also catches her bugging renjun while chenle literally giggles at them.

after jisung introduced the video, she could only giggle at how the members talked and commented on how it was weird how they were given this type of content considering how talkative they were.

“im excited”, she mumbled while writing “jisung is cute” on her pad and showing it to them.

she then turned the page and wrote “haechan, i love you” before showing it to him on the other side of the room to stop him from picking on jisung.

“honestly, we should’ve gotten someone else to decide the winner because it’s not like we’ll believe we’re wrong when it’s just one of us saying we are…” she mumbled, making the members nod in agreement while chuckling because she had a point.

when jisung explained how the mc would pick the winner, yanna started to write “jisung oppa” and showed it to him.

jisung: okay, you’re winning whatever letter you pick.

renjun literally leaving his podium to grab yanna’s pad away and keeping it with his as the members laughed at the whole scenario.

topic one: to have a spotlight on you everywhere you go vs. a fire alarm for 7 seconds everytime you move.

yanna picked A, laughing as chenle said the vocalists picked that while the rappers picked the fire alarm.

literally gives mark shit for being unfunny, like, she actually looks so done with his jokes and mark’s just laughing at her reaction.

she listened in on the others’ arguments but stepped in when both jeno and jaemin started talking about having two lights on stage and looking pale.

“no, you already have the initial light everywhere! so obviously when getting make up done on you, your make up artist would put enough to make you look presentable even with another light on since they’d know how pale you’d be just from the spotlight that’s already on you. it’s the same, it’s not like it’s a surprise on stage.”

jisung then asked her why she picked A instead of B, to which she immediately explained that it was more of just the fact that she didn’t want to bother others with the alarm and she didn’t want to be bothered by it as well.

“ears are more sensitive than our eyes, so automatically the alarm would be heard by more people. specially by us. with the light, there are ways for us to not notice it and not a lot of people would be burdened since the spotlight is on us only.”

when jisung announced A as the winner, yanna immediately clapped on mark’s ear to prove a point. “see. annoying, isn’t it?” she asked as she continued clapping loudly.

when jisung explained why they won, she laughed and said “he didn’t even listen to our arguments…”

chenle then picked renjun as the next mc, making her cheer for him but also get excited since jisung was beside her now.

with renjun asking them to clap for him, yanna ultimately ignored the boy and laughed when the others did too.

topic 2: members talk only to me for the rest of my life (and i can’t reply, just listen) vs. members never listen to me for the rest of my life.

“huh?”, literally stares at the question for 20 seconds.

renjun asking them to pick and her not moving so jisung’s like “yanna isn’t picking”.

jeno: it’s in hangul, so…

cue the members laughing, getting the joke while she just deadpans at him.

she then picks A and smiles at renjun before listening in on mark saying they should think about extreme scenarios.

as soon as they were told they can’t switch, yanna yelled at jeno to change back to A because she can defend them.

her argument then started off with “let’s talk about this in a group’s perspective. your own members not listening to you will result to a bad relationship within the group. but, if i listened to all of them then i could come up with ways to do something that will make all their and my own concerns go away. i can always act even when i don’t speak.”

“besides, my face already says all i need to say for them to understand how i feel.” she added.

as haechan explained that he’s already living like choice B, she tapped her podium rapidly and raised her hand to ask permission to rebuttal that.

“exactly, you already live like that so don’t you think it’s time to make them feel like how you’re feeling when they don’t respond to you. in A, you’re listening but you can also pretend not to hear them. they won’t know if you’re listening, it’s not like you can tell them and reassure them.”

jaemin: let’s be honest, no one will /not/ listen to yanna. she shouldn’t be allowed on this debate.

haechan: she didn’t pick B because it’s unrealistic, even mark-hyung listens to her.

mark: honestly, yeah.

jeno: i don’t listen to her, she sounds like squeaking in my ears.

“we’re on the same team!”

as soon as jaemin said his argument, her hands up went up again but renjun could only laugh.

renjun: you can’t rebuttal all their arguments, baby.

chenle: baby?!

a whole chaos about him calling her “baby” and yanna’s just staring at the camera in surprise.

“let’s end this, i got what i want already. i’ve won.”

she could only laugh when chenle’s argument was he can’t not talk.

jaemin questioning mark for talking too much when he chose A also made yanna want to argue again but renjun literally chuckled in disbelief while chenle and jisung laughed at the two.

“the only reason we have a lot to say is because we literally listened to everyone’s points and heard you well. meanwhile, all you guys care about is how you personally feel and that’s why you chose B. you focused on if the situation will frustrate you or make you lonely, not the bigger picture which is how it’ll affect the environment you’re in. and that’s why it’s better to listen, so you can observe more and not just focus on your own thinking.”

renjun then announced team A as the winner, and yanna smiled as he explained himself.

when renjun asked who didn’t want to get picked as the next mc, she raised her hand as well as haechan. but the other was picked and she pouted before saying “i won’t join” cutely.

topic: live with a 180 cm tall cockroach vs. live with 180 cockroaches.

cue yanna literally going “ew” with a disgusted face, while mark and chenle laugh at her reaction.

“i would rather be homeless.”

the camera literally pans to her as she contemplated about answering and jisung’s like “i can’t believe you’re thinking this hard about it. pick B, i’ll explain for us.”

she ends up picking B with no intent of arguing with anything but the fact that she’s disgusted either way.

when asked why she picked B, she said “because a 180 cm cockroach is disgusting. dirty. and ugly.”

renjun calling both her and jisung out for choosing B when they’re incredibly scared of them.

“would living with a big one cure that fear? no. living with 180 of them could.”

also her, “WHAT IF IT BITES YOU, HUH? IT COULD CUT YOUR SKIN WITH HOW BIG IT IS.”

cue her ending up imagining it and shivering.

everyone at her expect jeno: cute~

her staring into a void when they start talking about the cockroach, like she isn’t even in that conversation.

as soon as haechan said they won, she was evidently surprised but only high-fived jisung as she listened to haechan’s explanation.

“basically i won three times due to personal interest…”
