if libidO was about self discovery, begin is about self acceptance. its a lot more mature, and less desperate, you know who you are and now you need to embrace it, and you can begin again every time it goes wrong. there's freedom in starting over.

i'm so sick of my fellow iranians being cringe as fuck on social media and simping for the state of israel out of some insane the enemy of my enemy is my friend mentality like i know this is crazy but you can hate the iranian government without deciding to go full monarchist and act like israelis are liberators of literally anything or anyone
like i'm sorry if the best you can envision for iran is trading one authoritarian for the son of the previous authoritarian (who was literally overthrown bc he was an authoritarian puppet of the united states) solely bc of his name then you hate the iranian people more than i can image
#like why are they somehow hitting the same level of insane cringe as indian nationalists#also stop parroting these dumbass slogans that don't make any sense like iran isnt islamic republic like ok what does that even mean#it makes as much sense as hamas is isis#yall are just saying words that you think sound catchy but are ultimately meaningless#like yeah iran hasnt been an islamic republic for most of its existence#it currently is#that has clearly not worked out and it can and should change but like that's literally factually what it is rn#and it's dumb as shit to act like there ARENT people that do support it#you are never going to gain ground if you accuse literally everyone of being a paid state actor who disagrees with you#or if you see the world in so black and white that you think bc the iranian government is bad israel's government is good#or act like the actual revolution in 1979 WASNT born out of legit grievances#like obviously that went incredibly sideways but like#what is with this insane whitewashing of the shah all of you are so embarassing#sorry i cant rant on twitter bc of the Job so i gotta do it here i am so fucking tireddddddd#i wish the most outspoken public facing iranians weren't all wealthy as fuck monarchists playing activists#while sitting in beverly hills mansions contemplating their next nose jobs and doing absolutely nothing of use like wow you are so brave#it's the same energy as those rich cubans who moved to miami after castro took over#you can argue that the motive for the iranian regime's defiance of israel is not ultimately out of any desire to help palestinians#and frankly i would agree with you#but like in this specific instance i don't actually think their motive matters if it is materially helping palestinians#will it? that remains to be seen#and acknowledging that it could does not suddenly mean you support the regime all of you are so braindead i am tiiiiiired

i think the thing that no one tells you about being forced into being a high achieving child/teen is how much it comes to fuck you over later in life when you can’t do anything without holding yourself to an insane level of perfectionism and then you realize it’s basically leeched all the fun out of any hobbies you created for yourself and left you with a shell of a personality

Rant about how Jewish safety and Palestinian freedom are not opposing ideas under the cut
Yes, this is dramatically simplified. Yes, this is about anti-Semitism, not Palestinian freedom, because we can discuss both, and that's a good and important thing. Let's keep talking about both of these issues, and a post about one in no way means ignoring the other. Let's start with a bit of history.
Western nations ignore the Holocaust
They feel a bit bad, and are eager to give Jews a place to live after. The Jews did not divide the land. The west did, led by the UK. Why? Well:
1. They certainly don't want to take them all in, and they can't go home;
2. The west has been looking for an ally in the mideast, and here they can create one who will be completely dependent on them for their own survival (remember that most of their neighbors do hate them [to be fair, so does much of the world, but more subtly, so that's a different discussion] and they cannot survive without western aid which means keeping western countries happy)
Jews did live there six thousand years ago and are happy to find the one spot in the world where maybe no one will hate them
At this point, no one likes the Palestinians. (In fact, until recently, Palestinians have essentially been "the Jews of the Arab world," and if this ends soon enough, their neighbors will not continue to support them. The Jews and the Palestinians are far more alike than they are different; who do you think it benefits to have them pitted against each other?)
Separate point.
Zionism you guys. It's not just that it's not all Jews, it's that it's not a Jewish movement. It began in the 1800s in Russia. The first Jewish group to actively oppose it, despite what was happening at the time, was in 1939. It is incredibly popular in far right Christian communities. It is not incredibly popular among the Jewish people.
One of the fundamentals of Judaism is that it does not attempt to convert people. Ever. If you want to be Jewish, that's dope, you're going to be doing a lot of work because it's never been about spreading the religion. That's why Jews are .2% of the population worldwide.
Reminder.
Netanyahu and his government are not the Jewish people, and frankly, not stating that while discussing this leads to misconceptions because people want black and white, not nuance. This leads to more hatred.
Hamas is not the Palestinians. Do not conflate the two.
What the Israeli government and IDF are doing is bad. What Hamas is doing is also bad. Let's support the innocents on both sides, and be willing to educate ourselves rather than shut down at the mere suggestion that we might be wrong.
(And I am more than happy to discuss this further, this is a broad overview but one most people are unfortunately never taught that is critical to understanding where we are today. The Jews were never conquerors, they were victims handed a life line and after Hitler do you think they were going to question it? That said, of course some Jews did horrific things. So did some Palestinians. Neither side has clean hands. And neither side is defined by those who are currently doing the fighting. Both people deserve a state, and it is not the fault of either that colonizers, always so good at dividing up the world, fucked that one up, too.)
Anyway. Today instead of having a calm, nuanced discussion about the history of the people, the fact that civilians dying is generally just bad, and acknowledging that we can fight for Palestinian freedom while protecting Jews from dramatically rising anti-Semitism around the world, it was:
"I'm sorry that ending the genocide means supporting Israelis dying."
Um. What.
And now, I have to add, that five minutes ago I read an article that compared Israel to ISIS.
How the fuck did you get there?

i want someone to tell me in detail what’s wrong with me, because there must be something that i’m missing. the caving feeling of watching their replies get slower and more distant is something i’m growing all too familiar with. things will be going well and i’ll feel so happy and comfortable with them, but then they’ll post on their story when i’ve been on delivered for 16 hours and it turns out they’re with another girl and all of a sudden it clicks for me. how could i ever think that i had a chance with someone like them? if i take a step back and look at my life, it appears to me that i only attract people who are way older than me, or people who think that because i’m nice to them, i must be interested. and when you think about that they’re after? a naïve, young girl or a motherly therapist. suddenly i’m not as attractive, or as interesting, or as funny as i supposed i was. i’m just a toy.

Let’s do another season about a white person (we don’t have already 4 seasons) and make her season about the obvious things (again). Let’s throw aside that we could’ve made the 8th season about Ava (which I was more interested in) 🤡

Welcome to my Rant and Review of the Isis Oracle! (Something one of my friends really really wanted me to do, and it's been in my back pocket for awhile now. So why not?)
A Rant and Review is similar to a Rate and Review, but a lot saltier and without any rating system whatsoever. So buckle up folks cause here we go!
>>I'd also like to preface this rant and review of the Isis Oracle by saying that this is in no way a condemnation of it's creator, her beliefs, or that of the publishing company. This is simply my opinion about the deck and the problems I personally have with it, despite the fact that I do still use it.<<
Background Info: The Isis Oracle
The deck was created by Alana Fairchild and published by Blue Angel Publishing in 2013. The deck I have was reprinted in 2020. It consists of 44 cards and a 220 page guidebook. There's also apparently a CD with the meditations/rituals/invocations and a journal, neither of which I have because a) I don't want them, and b) I'm poor.
Pros:
1. The Artwork
This deck has PHENOMENAL artwork. The illustrations are so beautiful and evoke a lovely energy. If you've ever looked for artwork of Isis anywhere on the internet, I can pretty much guarantee you've seen at least one of the cards.
Tumblr media
This card, "The Divine Guardian: Protection of the Winged Mother", is probably the most well-known as far as the artwork goes. It's also the cover of the box and guidebook. But you can see what I mean about the art right? It's gorgeous. There's even a card that references an existing figure from Ancient Egypt, with Auset holding the infant Heru sa Auset.
2. The Cardstock
The cardstock is also really nice. It's thick with a smooth finish, not shiny at all so The imagery really shows well. The cards shuffle really nicely (no reversals in this deck, so I only do a quick overhanded shuffle). The cards are on the larger side, which not everyone likes. I shuffle them vertically instead of horizontally, which works well for me with larger cards.
3. Extra Guidebook Content
Each card has a ritual and invocation associated with it. They're not the best written, in my personal opinion, and don't work with a Kemetic practice, but they are interesting and I've found ways to work around it for a good number of the cards. The way the rituals and invocations are...well, on par with the rest of the guidebook. Which I'll elaborate more on in the Cons.
....and yeah, those are the only Pros for this deck. Seriously. It's beautiful visually and tactilely, and it has interesting elements in the book I don't often see. That's it.
Moving on!
Cons:
I'm going to start small and work my way up to the big issues, because they are truly BIG issues.
(0. The Back of the Cards:)
(This one is a moot point with this deck, so I'm not really counting it as a full Con list item. But I get annoyed when the back of the card is designed in a way that lets me know if it's upright or reversed. Again, this deck doesn't have reversals, so it's less of an issue, but the back of the cards is very one directional, so you know immediately when a card is reversed because the image is upside down. Photo for reference.)
Tumblr media
1. No Card Numbers
The cards aren't numbered. This is an annoyance for me when I actually use the guidebook (more on that in a second) because I constantly had to either flip to the front of the book and reference the table of contents, or just quickly flip through once I kind of knew which relative page the card is on. I actually went through and numbered everything myself (gold sharpie on the cards so it's not distracting, and black pen in the book).
2. Depiction of Isis
The deck and it's guidebook were written from the perspective of Isis as part of the Divine Feminine, as an aspect of THE Goddess instead of a deity in her own right. Which, on its own, is not the worst thing. It doesn't work with my understanding and knowledge of my goddess, but I can mostly work around it (geez how often do I say that about this deck? That's probably a Con in and of itself.)
In the deck, Isis is conflated with multiple different Egyptian goddesses. There's a whole card that basically makes her out to be Ma'at in the imagery, while also putting her in the role of Anpu/Anubis with the scales.
Fairchild also routinely refers to Isis as "Lady Isis", and calls her a Priestess of...all sorts of things honestly. Let's be very clear here, Auset isn't a lady, she's a fucking queen. Her name literally means "throne". She ruled Egypt with Ausar/Osiris, and even ruled in his stead when he was traveling. "Lady" is not something used to reference her traditionally. And SHE is not a Priestess, she HAD/HAS priestesses. She's a goddess who had her own cult in Egypt, a cult which was SOOOOO popular that is spread across multiple countries and cultures. She has a fuckton of magic and wisdom, but that doesn't make her an initiated priestess. That's not how that works.
3. Huge Emphasis on Masculine vs Feminine
This goes hand in hand with the previous point, but nearly ever card has some reference to the Masculine or Feminine energies. Now, this deck was originally published in 2013, which doesn't excuse the very binary view, but it does make sense with how it's written. One of the cards for Osiris is called "Healing the Divine Masculine: Osiris Rises" and it compares the collection and mummification of Osiris' body parts, as well as his return to life, with healing the Divine Masculine energies. In order to protect and nurture the softer Divine Feminine energies. So not only is that concept fairly offensive, but it's also incredibly narrow-minded as there is no inclusion of anything or anyone outside the male/female binary.
4. No Reference to Nebt-het/Nepthys
That pretty much sums it up. She's not mentioned. At all. Which is kind of insane when you think about it, because there is a card that is all about sisterhood and community ("Divine Sisterhood: Community of the Spiritual Sisters and Brothers of the Light"), and this card does name multiple other Egyptian goddesses as sister-aspects to Isis (in her own guise as an aspect of the Divine Feminine): "Hathor, Isis, Bastet and Sekhmet and more." Yup. No Nebt-het. Not even in the cards which reference Set.
Speaking of His Chaotic-ness:
5. Set is Treated Like Absolute Shit (in the Most Love and Light Way Possible)
Now, I understand that the more common and popular mythology paints Set in a pretty bad light, casting him as the villain because he offed his brother and did some very bad things. And sure, Auset and Set don't generally get along, in my personal experience. But the deck literally calls him "The Dark Brother", and his two main cards are "The Brother in Darkness: Overcoming Negative Energy with Feminine Power" (yeah, that's the bullshit we're dealing with here people) and "Truths Unveiled: The Revelation of Isis".
That second one doesn't sound so bad, right? Haha, WRONG. While the first card is blatantly offensive in it's treatment of Set, from the get-go, making his role as the God of Chaos equate to him being the worst evil (even though his job is to literally slay A/p/ep, the Nope Rope of Chaos, in order for the sun to rise and the world to continue spinning instead of being consumed and becoming absolute nothing), "Truths Unveiled" is a little sneakier. The best way I can explain it is with a quote from the guidebook:
"Isis was betrayed by Her brother Set, who, out of his great jealousy, murdered Her beloved Osiris. ... She also learned a painful and valuable lesson that it is wise to take our intuitive feelings seriously and to recognize a snake in the grass when there is one."
And it goes on in the same vein, taking the importance of trusting one's intuition when dealing with other people and using it as a cover to imply that Set's whole role was to be the bad guy and fuck shit up for the fun of it.
6. The Appropriative Content and Seeming Lack of ACTUAL RESEARCH into the Culture of the Goddess the Deck Represents
I could say some Things about the perceived race of the deck's creator in relation to the culture and goddess it's based on, but that would come out incredibly antagonistic and mean. And probably not within Ma'at. So I won't say it. I will however infer my personal opinion via the above statement.
In the second card of the deck, the guidebook references the crown chakra. Not Kemetic. That same page in the book talks about connecting to Mother Earth, which is not inherently a problem in its own, EXCEPT in Kemetic Mythology the deity associated with the earth is Geb, the FATHER of Auset, Osiris and the rest of that group. You've got references to the Tantric Path, and some imagery that looks suspiciously like the Star of David. Oh, and Angels. Yup, the Christian Angels. Once again, a whole ass card, about connecting with angels and asking Isis to help you connect with them. Even though they have NO place in the culture she is from. Zero. None.
7. The Idea That "If You Choose to Walk this Path of Light, You are From Another World or Plane of Existence"
Did you read that in a really insipid and high pitched voice laced with mocking and contempt? Because that's how I wrote it.
I mentioned very briefly when ranting about the treatment of Set that this deck has a Love and Light vibe. That vibe happens to be so strong is chokes you with it's instruction to only work with beings who approach you with "unconditional love", walk a "path of light", removing "lower vibrational forces", etc etc. Want to throw up yet?
But wait, it gets worse.
There are MULTIPLE cards which make the claim that, because you felt compelled to purchase this deck and pursue a relationship with Isis, you must be a Starseed! And you, and others like you, were sent to this time to help bring us lowly humans up to your higher vibration. The lapis lazuli card info actually says Star People, no joke. (I'm also really salty about this because lapis is my favorite crystal and one I strongly associate with Auset, so I really don't like having it associated with this Starseed bullshit)
Fun fact, that's a bunch of made-up crap that combines a classist idea of spirituality (as in, being spiritual makes you better than those who are not "enlightened" in the same way you are) with the idea that those who are "other", ie neurodivergent or who have a medical or mental illness or disability, are only that way because of said "enlightenment" and that those people are not of this world. Therefore making them even more other. And it's fucking wrong.
Which leads me to....
8. The Very Very VERY Harmful Idea in the Preface About Healing Work and Personal Health
Ooooh yeah, the book goes there. The first 16 pages of the guidebook is all background info and suggestions on how to use the deck, some ideas for spreads, the usual. And right before the actual info about the cards is a little three-bullet note about "Working with Ritual and Healing". And I wish I had the words to explain this or to sum up how I feel about it, but a picture is probably the best option.
Tumblr media
Ritual work, magic, spirituality are not an excuse to change or go off your medication. They do not preclude or heal the very real, very difficult physical, mental and emotional illnesses and diagnoses that people have to live with. Yes, they can help. And yes, I agree that a lot of the work people, especially in the New Age community, do these days should not be done alone. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that a lot of shadow work needs to be done while you're seeing a licensed therapist. And sure, if whoever you see, be it a doctor or therapist or whatever, doesn't agree with you about your beliefs and views on ritual healing, that be difficult to work with. But that doctor/therapist has SCIENCE.
.....
And, end rant.
Overall, it's a visually stunning deck. But the ideas it's based on are so not in line with Isis, the goddess it supposedly represents and allows readers to connect with. And I say supposedly for a reason. It's why throughout this post, when I use Auset's name, it's in reference to her as she is seen according to the Ancient Egyptian mythology and culture, and when I say Isis it's about the way she's viewed in this deck.
I have worked with and gotten to know Auset over two years now, which by no means makes me an expert on anything. I am not Her Priestess or a Devotee (yet). But, in my very personal, very STRONG opinion, anyone who seeks to use this deck in the way it's prescribed is not using it to connect with Auset, the Kemetic Goddess. They're not even using it with Isis, the Greek version of the Kemetic Goddess. This deck only leads you to an energetically white-washed, New Age bastardization of that goddess that was labeled as Isis for popularity.
.......
This has been a Rant and Review with Morgan, thanks for reading.

like jesus okay i’m basically anti war & certainly anti iraq & afghanistan and so i’m like 100% biased but this sort of television just. doesn’t make the military come off in any sort of good light. when television can’t come up with halfway decent justification for this shit that even me, as someone’s whose just studied law at the undergraduate level, can pick apart, it’s pretty pathetic. there are not justifications for war crimes & given both invasions were big fat war crimes, any sort of justification on television comes across as weak willed & pathetic.

Richard Dawkins' meltdown in the early 2010s was so prophetic for what would happen to *gestures at every old British celebrity* in the past few years. Within just a few years he went from quietly respected to giving interviews where he ranks which types of rape are the worst, calling a Muslim teen wrongfully arrested for playing with a clock a "ISIS child soldier", and repeatedly trying to shut down feminists by using Muslim women as a blunt object to say they don't have it so bad so stop complaining, all while doing a lot of "I don't believe [bad thing], I'm just asking questions, y'know" on the side
Confirming all that I learned that he promoted a conference run by evangelical Christian Nationalists in 2019 since, while he "didn't support their religious beliefs", he did support their speaker's rants about "post-modernism", which. That checks out tbh
