While Aster and Beck planned the pregnancy they were not ready for two of them. Two identical boys, and she wasn’t aware how much more she would enjoy her pregnancy; how Beck was even more wonderful, or how Ellie would tell her belly stories every night.
Being pregnant this time was completely different. Not just her changing body, but her partner. Beck was the perfect partner. So when she held those newborn boys for the first time she felt complete. Like she finally did something right, and that they were the most perfect things in the world, along with her perfect daughter.
With the twins growing and developing more of a personality, she realized quickly how different life with two boys was, compared to her sweet giggly girl.
Orion had showed himself to be a complete mama’s boy. Content just being held by her. Atlas never slowed down. He became mobile and was always on the move. Never realizing just how much Orion wasn’t like him.
Orion could be laying in the floor, and Atlas would crawl all over him. When they were learning to walk, Atlas tried to pull Orion with him. The younger boy, just wobbly would screech at his brother, and look towards his mama for help.
Atlas bested Orion in just about anything. Could overpower him with very little effort. The one thing Atlas did not mess with when it came to Orion was food.
He learned the hard way that Orion did not share food. Trying to reach over on his plate, and his little brother would bite his hand. The funny thing is, Orion would cry right along with his brother, upset that he was crying.
Even if he tried to sneak food from Orion, who was the much slower eater, Orion would clench his fist screaming before trying to bite him. Aster’s sweet baby being a biter bothered her.
“Starlight, he only bites if Attie comes for his food. He’ll learn to leave Rion alone.”
“But,” Aster pouts, laying over on her husband. The two of them watching their wild child, Ellie kicked back on Beck taking a Sunday nap. “I don’t like hearing Attie cry.”
“Rion cries too. He’ll learn that sometimes he should leave my little star hunter alone, huh buddy?”
Orion turns to see his mama laid on his daddy, and slaps at his chunky thighs. “My my my!”
“You know, Rion, for you to be the sweet twin, you’re very demanding,” he goes to push Aster of him, but she holds tighter. “Your big baby is about to stomp over hear, and my Pumpkin is sleeping.”
“You wanna take a nap with mama?”
Atlas’ eyes go large and he stands to start running away screaming and giggling no, while Orion just claps his hands.
Coming back into the living room, Atlas waddles over to his dad telling him a no no. “I didn’t say it. Your mama did. Azzie, this one is too much Drysdale, and Orion is all me, baby. Come here,” standing up, his diaper butt walks over to his mama, and reaches up so sweetly.
“Yep, all me, that’s why he’s all about his mama. You know they’re nearly two how about…?”
“We’ll talk later Moonbeam. Can I just enjoy having my family in one room?”
“Softest Drysdale of all aren’t you?” Beck sighs as Aster gives the most tender of kisses to her sweet cuddly boy.
Atlas comes over to her, and taps on his lips, “Me, mama,” even her kisses are different with Atlas. Hard and quick pecks all over his face, and it leaves him giggling. Upon stopping he rubs at his eyes, and his lips pout out a bit.
“My little titan is seepy.”
“No not!”
“Fine, keep playing. You’re going to fall asleep on your toys.”
“No, daddy!”
“Beck, leave him alone,” Aster chastises, cradling her youngest boy, he buries his face on her chest sighing. “Let him prove us right.”
Not long into playing some more, he does just that. Almost falling over on his trucks, and Beck can only giggle.
“Now it’s time for our nap. Ellie and Rion will sleep until we wake them.”

Corn Maze [Spookstober]
Day 6 of 13 Days of Spookstober: The Half of It.
Aster Flores and Ellie Chu get lost in a Corn Maze, when Paul comes to find them, he realizes that they may have gotten lost on purpose.
Warning: Not safe for work, aka Smut.
_________________
“Are you sure he won’t come looking for us?” Aster whispered breathlessly, a soft sigh escaping her as Ellie continued her assault on the brunette’s neck.
“No,” Ellie murmured between kisses, her lips hot on her girlfriend’s skin, “We left him at the ring toss, he’s a jock, he’ll be there hours trying to win every prize.”
“I just-” Aster cut herself off with a loud gasp as Ellie found her pulse point, sucking at it roughly, hands resting on her waist. “Don’t want to be- jesus!”
Ellie’s fingers slipped underneath the thin fabric of Aster’s shirt, her hands ice cold but also burning against the bare skin of Aster’s sides. “Interrupted!”
“That’s why I picked the corn maze...” Ellie settled on, lifting Aster onto her hips with ease, a subtle reminder of just how built the woman actually was.
The next few minutes neither one of them spoke; Aster wrapping her legs around Ellie’s hips as the woman carried her to a hay bale not far away, Ellie laying her down with the gentlest of ease before ravishing her with kisses that got hotter and less innocent with each passing moment.
At first her lips stayed on Aster’s neck, nipping and biting at the sensitive flesh in ways that had Aster moaning softly, anticipation swirling in her.
Then her lips slid across Aster’s collarbone, each kiss punctuated with a small groan as Ellie found herself slipping between Aster’s legs, her body pressing against her with the gentlest of touches, desire growing in both of them.
As Ellie’s lips fell to Aster’s chest, what could be seen through the fabric of her shirt, the brunette wasted no time in pulling Ellie in closer to her, a soft groan escaping her lips and begging on Ellie’s mercy.
“Please...” She whined.
“Are you sure?” Ellie had to ask, between kisses over top of Aster’s blouse. “We can wa-”
“I need you.”
In those words, the matter was settled; Aster pulling her shirt over her head until her bare chest was exposed to the air, no, exposed to Ellie. Ellie acted as well, her lips finding the perfect swell of Aster’s breast, hands pulling Aster closer to her as she licked and teased at the peaks of her girlfriends chest.
A noise escaped Aster that had Ellie choke on air.
Ellie slipped Aster’s shirt underneath of her, a barrier between the rough hay and the perfect, unmarred skin of her love’s back. Moments later she pushed the brunette on top of the hay, her own body slipping until she was directly over Aster, kissing her again.
As Ellie’s fingers teased at Aster’s jeans, the brunette let out a gasp of delight that had them both groaning.
Ellie’s lips found Aster’s again, her tongue slipping inside of her mouth to explore it delicately, and then Ellie’s hand found it’s way past the waistband of Aster’s jeans and Aster bit down on Ellie’s lip, pulling the sensitive flesh towards her as she hungrily deepened the kiss.
“Touch me...” She gasped into Ellie’s mouth, the other woman wasting no time in obeying her, fingers splaying across the front of Aster’s panties, feeling how wet the brunette was already.
“Mmm, baby...” Ellie moaned, loving the way that Aster’s hips arched up to meet her hand, desperate for release. “God, you are amazing.” She sang her praises as her fingers slipped between Aster’s legs and began to rub her slowly, lovingly.
Aster laid her head back against the hay, her own hands moving to Ellie’s shoulders and squeezing them tightly as the woman increased the pace of her rubbing. Aster was desperate for release, the very thought of Ellie making her desire pool beneath her.
“Aster, I love you...” Ellie whispered, her lips slipping back down to Aster’s chest, teasing those peaks again as her fingers worked her girlfriend, a finger slipping inside of the brunette slowly.
“Unnnghhh.” Aster nearly screamed, her hips moving to meet Ellie at each thrust inside of her, the raven-haired woman taking good care to be gentle, to be searing, to be everything that Aster had ever wanted.
“I love you too.” Aster groaned, her breath getting shorter and more uneven as she moved against Ellie. She was desperate, so desperate and only Ellie could give her the release she wanted.
“I love you, I love you, I love you.” Ellie repeated with each thrust, before Aster’s legs were clamping around her arm, and the brunette came undone, a shriek on her lips as she clung to her girlfriend desperately.
Ellie held Aster tightly, letting her ride the waves of her pleasure before slowly pulling out of her. Aster didn’t let go though, dragging Ellie down onto the hay stack with her as she slipped her body overtop of Ellie’s and kissed her hard, kissed her frantically.
“I’m far from done with you.”

Paul won three stuffed bears, a stuffed giraffe, two squirt guns and a fake flower before he decided that it was enough presents for his two bestfriends.
Dropping everything off at the car, he figured that it was getting late enough, and the carnival was shutting down enough that they probably should be getting on their way. With his luck, he could convince them to watch a movie at Ellie’s before they’d all say goodnight and go their separate ways.
The only issue was that he had absolutely no idea where Aster and Ellie had gone while he was playing.
He vaguely remembered Ellie mumbling something to Aster about taking a walk in the corn maze, and figured that was where he would start his search.
Paul was about halfway into the corn maze when he heard the first moan, and his heart stopped.
One of his friends was in trouble!
He was about to rush towards the sound, when another moan filled his ears, followed by the unmistakable sound of panting, and screaming...
Screaming in not a bad way.
Going bright red, he froze where he was... The next moan he heard was followed by the cry of “Oh, Aster!” And he knew exactly what was going on.
At first he blushed about six shades of red, and then he turned on his heel and all but ran out of the maze... He’d wait in the car for them to come back, or maybe he’d go spend more money on prizes, anything to distract him from what he had been hearing.
He’d never mention it to them, no that was far too embarrassing, and not just for him, for them too.
Paul was a good guy, afterall.
In fact, he was such a good guy, that on his way back to the car, he saw a few teenagers entering the maze and went out of his way to tell them (in his best, I’m in charge, voice) that the corn maze was closed for the night and they needed to leave.
He was not good enough of a guy to avoid the smirk that fell across his face when Aster and Ellie came back to the car, both of their hair messed up, hay everywhere and Aster’s shirt was on backwards.
After all, they kind of deserved that.

The Whole of Them
It's been a couple of years. Ellie Chu is killing it in college and Aster's a flourishing painter. The two meet again on the wall they painted together.
"Ellie!" Ellie turns and sees Paul running towards her. They hug and Paul picks her up. Ellie laughs as she shouts to put her down.
"How's the sausages going?"
"Good. Also, I got into Iowa now." Ellie laughs as the two best friends catch up on everything that's happened for the past couple years.
"Good work, Ms. Flores." Aster smiles as she loads the last of her bags on her car. "Your last piece was beautiful again." Aster nods.
"Thank you, professor." The old woman chuckles.
"Love can be such an interesting subject." Aster laughs. Of course, her professor would get it.
"Yes. It is."
"I'm assuming that you're going to meet her?" Aster smiles and nods, she can't help the grin forming on her face. "Tell her good luck from me, will you?"
"Why?"
"Because painters can be such difficult lovers." Aster laughs and the old woman walks away.
"That's actually true." She gets in her car and drives away.
'Your move.' Ellie finishes up her stroke and smiles.
"You done yet?" Paul offers up a taco sausage and Ellie chuckles as she accepts it.
"Did you change the recipe?"
"Yeah. A little bit." He watches as she takes a bite. "How is it?"
"Good. Really good." She takes another bite and smiles. "Better."
"Yeah?" She nods and he sighs in relief. "Thank god." She laughs and punches him lightly then they eat in silence.
'You really are something else, Ellie Chu.' She picks up the spray paint. She adds a stroke then begins writing her note.
'Are we still doing this?' She smiles as she walks away.
Ellie sighs. Was she being too repetitive? Damn it.
"What's wrong? Not gonna reply?"
"I-" She sighs then runs a hand through her hair. "Does she think this is boring?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Look at what she wrote!" She throws her hands up in the air. "It's like she's saying that she's tired of this!"
"Maybe?" Ellie glares at Paul. "You two are weird."
"What? Why?"
"You can just talk to each other, you know. I mean you guys are ghost messaging but…" He gives her a burger and she accepts it. "It's just not the same as talking face to face." Ellie hums as she takes a bite. She notes the juicy patty but holds it back.
"I know that. But. I'm not good at talking."
"Me either."
"I know. Ugh." She sits down on the hood of his truck.
"What if she hates me now?"
"What? Why?" Ellie shrugs.
"Because I'm boring now? Because I'm repetitive?"
"She won't think that. I mean, you're in college and you're smart." Ellie smiles at him then takes a bite. She finishes it before speaking.
"You're smart too."
"No, I'm not. I'm stupid."
"No, you're not. You're smart. Maybe not in the same way as I am but you are." They smile at each other. "Nice patty by the way."
"Thanks." She walks over and hums. She picks up the spray paint and adds a stroke and a note.
'Sorry if this was too boring… and I repeated it.'
She gets inside the truck and they drive away.
Aster smiles and puts her hand on Ellie's note.
'Nice. Smart.' She smiles at the photo that Paul sent her a year ago. 'And pretty.' She chuckles as she picks up the spray paint. She adds a stroke and a note.
'Sorry if that was what came across. It's not boring. Just that… I want to talk with you more.' Aster walks away then stops as she sees a container besides the cans. She picks it up and there's a note.
'Try my burger! It's a new recipe!' Aster laughs as she gets in her car, said container on her passenger seat.
"Talk, huh?"
"Told you." Ellie hums as she accepts a burrito from Paul.
"How's your girlfriend, by the way?"
"Three days that you're here and it's the first time you ask. I'm hurt."
"Shut up. I just forgot." Paul punches her lightly then smiles.
"She's good. We're good."
"She makes you happy?"
"Incredibly so." She smiles.
"How come I haven't seen her?"
"I told you she's visiting her parents for five days."
"Okay. When is she coming back?"
"Tomorrow."
"Want to go on a double date?" Paul beams and he nods excitedly at her. Ellie laughs then gets her phone out. Her fingers hover the screen but she pockets it.
"Not gonna ask her?"
"I will." She hops off. "I'll wait." Paul nods approvingly then gets in his car.
"See you later then."
"Yeah! Next lunch is on me!"
"Got it!" He drives away then Ellie sits down in front of the graffiti. She smiles before bringing out her book and reading. It's been an hour before Ellie hears the soft rhythm of a slow car and she smiles.
Aster hums as she gets out of her car but stops in her tracks when she sees Ellie. Ellie is pretending not to know that Aster is here. Aster hesitates but takes a deep breath then walks towards her. Ellie smiles.
"Hey." Ellie looks up and gives her a smile.
"Hey." Aster sits beside her then hums.
"What are you reading?"
"Dan Brown's Angels and Demons." Ellie closes the book and turns to Aster. "A professor actually recommended it. She says to make sure I find something to believe. Just like you said." Aster chuckles then turns to her.
"Hi."
"Didn't you just say hey?"
"You know it sounded familiar." Ellie laughs then takes Aster's hand. "Want to get lunch? Or go anywhere? You know-" Ellie kisses her suddenly and Aster smiles into the kiss. They break apart and their foreheads touch as they bask in the moment. They both chuckle.
"So, lunch?" They stand then gets into Aster's car.
"So… um."
"Yeah?"
"Apparently, Paul has a girlfriend and she… she's coming back into town tomorrow." Aster hums. "So… I was wondering if you wanted to meet her? With me? With also Paul." Aster chuckles.
"What are you really trying to say?"
"Go on a date with me. A double date, to be exact." Aster smiles. "But you-" Aster takes Ellie's hand to stop her rambling.
"I would love to." Aster smiles as Ellie squeezes her hand. They smile as Aster drives them to a diner.
Ellie smiles at Tv screen. She used to scoff and frown at Rom-Coms… but now, she just felt giddy whenever she watches them. Her phone chimes and both Paul and her dad looks at her. She just smiles at them then checks her phone.
DiegaRivero : Heathen. You up?
SmithCorona : Are you still calling me that?
DiegaRivero : It kinda stuck.
SmithCorona : Should I choose a nickname for you too?
DiegaRivero : Alright. Do your worst.
SmithCorona : How about beautiful?
Ellie blushes as she sends but then decides to push through the initial embarrasment.
SmithCorona : Angel? Hmmm.
SmithCorona : No. Goddess. It's perfect for you.
Both Ellie and Aster are now blushing.
"You okay?" Ellie turns to find both her dad and Paul staring at her.
"Y-yeah." Paul smiles teasingly as he goes back to watching.
"It's Aster, isn't it?" Ellie blushes even more but nods. The two men chuckle but leave her alone.
Both Ellie and Paul are waiting for the train to arrive. They're both waiting in comfortable silence. The train finally arrives and Paul stands then turns to Ellie who's still half-asleep.
"Ellie, wake up!" Ellie yawns then stretches. She gives Paul a smile then they both wait for the train to stop.
The train finally stops and a beautiful girl steps out. Paul quickly runs to her and gives her a hug while Ellie watches them with a smile. They kiss as the train leaves. When they break apart, Paul gets the girl's suitcase and duffel bag.
"Morning." The girl giggles.
"Morning."
"You must be Jen." Ellie holds out a hand.
"Yes." Jen takes the hand and shakes it. "Unless. Paul's cheating on me and have two different Jens." Ellie laughs.
"I like you already."
"That was fast."
"Sure."
"Come on." The three chat as they go into Paul's truck. The couple sits upfront while Ellie sits in the back with the luggage.
"How was the visit?"
"Fine. Everyone is still the same." Jen holds Paul's hand as he drives and Ellie can't help but smile at them. The rest of the drive was spent in comfortable silence. Ellie's phone chimes and she quickly sees who it was. She smiles as she sees Aster's number.
Aster : Are you awake?
Ellie : I am.
Aster : Huh. Did I wake you up?
Ellie : As nice as that would've been. Paul woke me up.
Aster : Did you meet his girlfriend already?
Ellie : Yeah. She's pretty and funny.
Aster : Should I be jealous?
Ellie : She wishes. She's got nothing on you, Goddess.
Aster : Only you would pick such a long nickname.
Ellie : It's fitting.
Aster : Whatever you say.
Ellie chuckles.
Ellie : It's true. You are like a goddess to me.
Aster smiles.
Aster : So you'd worship me?
Ellie : Anytime. Anywhere.
Aster blushes at Ellie's answer. God. The girl was smooth as hell.
The truck comes to a stop and Ellie sees that they stopped in front of a blue house.
"Wow!" She exclaims as she looks over it.
"I know, right?"
"You guys are really best friends." Ellie and Paul look at each other then fists bump. Jen chuckles as they all go inside.
Both Jen and Ellie are watching as Paul prepares breakfast for the three of them.
"So..." Ellie smiles. "How long have you two-?"
"About a year now." Ellie hums.
"Upcoming anniversary?"
"Yeah. This month too."
"Cool." Ellie leans away from Paul then gestures for Jen to do as she did. They huddled up.
"Any big plans? Anything I can help with?" Jen chuckles.
"How about Paul?"
"If he had plans, he never told me."
"Huh." Jen stands then gets something from her bag.
"I want to give him, sort of a poetry compilation."
"Yes! I can definitely help you."
"And I want an original there too."
"Is it finished?"
"About halfway through."
"Okay. You finish up. I'll compile."
"You sure? Aren't you busy?"
"And let my best friend and his girlfriend's anniversary go to waste? Hell no." Jen giggles.
"Thank you for helping."
"No problem." Ellie winks then they talk about anything and everything.
"I'll pick you up around 12."
"Got it." Ellie wears her helmet then gives Paul a fist bump before pedalling away. When she gets to the station, she sees Aster's car and said girl waiting for her. Aster smiles when she walks towards Ellie.
"Your bike hasn't changed?"
"Yeah. Had to leave it behind here."
"If you had the chance, though?" Ellie chuckles as she parks her bike.
"Not a chance."
"Why?" She shrugs.
"It's the only thing I allowed myself to buy before entering high school."
"How about driving?"
"Never learned. Didn't have a car too."
"Wanna learn?" Aster presents her car.
"You sure?"
"Yeah. Besides I trust you."
"Even when I have basically no knowledge?"
"Yep." Ellie laughs then takes Aster's hand.
"Maybe tomorrow. Have you had breakfast yet?"
"Yep. Pancakes. Yours?"
"Bacon and eggs." Aster hums as they walk towards Ellie's house. "Come in."
"Your dad?"
"Doesn't mind and he also knows." Aster chuckles.
"Ba." Ellie greets and Edwin looks up from his papers to see both girls.
"You're back. Did you meet Jen?"
"You know her?"
"Paul told me… and I also met her."
"Oh. Wow. Can't believe you met her before I did."
"Don't be rude. I can socialize."
"Just kidding." Ellie gives him a glass of water. "We'll just be in my room."
"Got it." The two turn to leave. "Ellie."
"Yeah?"
"No inappropriate things." The two girls blush to their roots.
"Ba! God!" Ellie quickly pushes Aster to her room and follows suit.
They both giggle and settle down on Ellie's bed.
"How did your dad know?"
"I told him when he visited me a year ago."
"At Grinnell?"
"Yep. It was a surprise visit too."
"You showed him around?"
"Yeah."
"I want to visit Grinnell too."
"Want me to show you around?"
"If you have the time."
"For you? Always."
"The thins is."
"Yeah?"
"I don't want to be worshipped." Ellie smiles. "I want to be loved."
"Of course." Ellie kisses Aster's forehead then they just hold hands basking in the moment and their closeness.
Paul honks and both Aster and Ellie who fell asleep got woken up. Ellie quickly looks outside and sees both Jen and Paul wave at her.
"Paul! You could've texted me."
"I did. Like five times." Aster shows Ellie's phone then Ellie sighs.
"Sorry! We fell asleep."
"We?" Ellie blushes then doesn't answer, instead she just goes downstairs with Aster.
"Ba?"
"Yeah?"
"We'll be going out now."
"Of course. Be careful."
"Yeah!"
"Nice meeting you, Mr. Chu."
"Of course. Ms. Flores." Aster chuckles before following Ellie outside.
"Oh! Aster's here already."
"Yep!" Ellie assists Aster on the back of the truck and Paul drives away.
"Where to?"
"I thought you picked already?"
"Nah. You pick. You'll pay."
"Oh. Right." Ellie considers her options then settles on the one where they've already gone and most people that they know wouldn't be. "How about Sparky's Diner?"
"Got it." Aster glares at Ellie who just shrugs.
As the truck stops. Aster stops Ellie from jumping off.
"Why this place? This is where me and Paul had our-"
"First date?" Ellie smirks. "I know." She jumps off then helps Aster. "But it is fitting."
"How?" Ellie winks.
"We can rewrite your memories." Ellie smirks as she holds out her hand. "It's our first official date."
"With us!" They both flinch as Jen shouts together with Paul. Aster laughs then takes Ellie's hand.
"Okay." All four walk inside, hoping to make memories now that they’re all together.

Half of it: Reunion
Welp. I threw this one in just 40 minutes the day I watched the movie. Didn’t proof-read it much afterwards and I merely thought on sending it to the roomie -narrows eyes at the Tumblr darkness: M, give me your Tumblr pretty pls.- But I guess... why not sharing it here xD
Attention: Not many spoilers or plot points discussed aside from, you know, the obvious. At any case proceed with caution if you haven’t watched it yet.
The air was icy when the train stopped, the rails whining at the sudden halt and by the time Ellie jumped out of compartment, boots firm against the pebbled road, she breathed in the scent of asphalt and soon-to-be snow that permeated the nighttime breeze.
She could have gotten in town much earlier, when the night wasn’t a shadow already passed over the horizon. On her wrist, dutifully annotated, where the timetables of the different trains that would have run from her campus to her childhood home but she had felt reluctant to do so and when she squared her shoulders and brought her right hand back to where she had put her trolley with a heavy thud mere moments before, she nibbled into her bottom lip, nerves getting the best of her once again.
It wasn’t the city on itself, she told herself as she started to walk towards her right, the train groaning as it picked up speed once more. She hadn’t felt a reaction inside of her the moment the rails had curled and run through the few and distant buildings that signaled the line between forest and town. The lush green marred with salt-peppered grey concrete had made her smile for once after all: the knowledge that she wasn’t stuck but merely passing a different kind of feeling to get drunk into once she realized that she had left for good. Yet, as she walked past the rails and the small cabin she had spent so much in, nerves didn’t quite leave her lungs. Spreading, mutating, they formed a tight ball around her throat that made her swallow by the time she reached her home, her former home.
She knew her father was inside, the lights on the kitchen’s window enough to tell her she had already been spotted by the man and the sounds coming from the ajar door signaling that he had already put a film to watch together while they ate. This time, though, the one he was probably giving her like every other pause he now used to give her whenever she called, amidst exams and outings and books that should be read for the next class she was supposed to take, a whirlwind of unspoken understanding.
He had never quite asked her why she had trouble wondering what life was back in town whenever she asked about Paul work. She suspected that, eventually, it didn’t matter how far off he was from the little town’s busy life: rumors were unperturbable to time. It was only a matter of it before he got to hear what had happened months ago. She would answer the questions that would spill of course, but she doubted very much that the man would ever question her.
And that, she considered while she pushed the door open, was as much of a blessing as it was a curse.
Not that she hadn’t talked to others about what had happened during her last months of her senior year. Private as she was there were things that eventually spilled out of one’s mind. Even if one didn’t want it so. But she still wondered if she would feel raw or betrayed if her father questioned it, if he told her to confide in him.
Morose wasn’t a feeling she often felt like but the thought of being halfway through her university career, the two years bell having been ringing on her ears ever since she had turned her last paper in, felt like a looming doom that she couldn’t run fast enough from. Which was probably the reason why that, when her father had asked her if she would be up for a small reunion of two to three days using up the few days between papers and the time she would need to go back to her in-university job, she had said yes.
Maybe to show him that there was nothing new about herself. Maybe to tell herself that there was, in fact, something.
Nevertheless, she took the last steps and smiled at his silhouette, at the way his shoulders hunched and moved as he stepped forward to hug her. Short, brief, awkward. They still were after all. That much hadn’t changed.
Patting his back, she looked around, spotting the bag that was emblazoned with Munsky’s Dinner symbol. The telling note on how his father has kept contact with the little glance of the outside world that she had brought into those years ago.
“You look good.” She said, words rusty but language prevailing and Edwin nodded curtly with just a shadow of a smile curving his lips. It felt good, she thought, pointing at what had been her room, trolley still behind her, secure on her already freezing hand. “Let me change and we can start dinner.”
He said nothing to her, merely remaining busy while she climbed up and by the time she reached the last few steps she tucked her chin into her chest, content and less anxious that there hadn’t been any tearful reunion nor cutting questions into the what or how. Pushing the trolley until it stopped at the end of her bed, she glanced around, flinching ever so slightly at the empty feeling of the room; the thought of being trespassing into a person she had been once not quite hitting her as strongly as she had feared it would. She hadn’t changed that much obviously. But there were things, small things, that made her look at the wood on the walls and the rickety pieces of written papers on the side table, before glancing towards the duvet, expecting almost to see something there, a letter that could have been sent but had never reached her for a reason she would get to listen to later.
Her bed was empty, though, devoid of a letter, and she looked at the window in where the dying lights of orange-ish lamps pooled around the rails as they mixed with the grey smoke that seemed to permanently come off from the nearby road. The one she had taken time and time again to get to school.
In there, dividing the slope that would eventually turn to the town proper, the stone wall made of red bricks blinked into existence. She hadn’t looked towards it when she had gotten off the train, the metal shielding her from it, the thought of seeing her father blinding her to anything else. Which, perhaps, had been her error because there, waiting, cans of paint and a blank slate of white painted over the red awaited her with one single word written in deep blue. The kind of one that could be water if one tilted their head enough, eyes narrowing until the lights hurt less.
“Hello.”
And it could be a message to anyone. It probably was, her rational part whispered to her as she turned and stormed out of the room, trolley forgotten, patterns of dust imprinted on her boots. But she had shared enough letters to recognize the handwriting, enough, she hoped, to be able to link to them in a second. And not like she hadn’t looked at the string of messages they had one shared a few times during her stay; hoping against hope to be on the receiving end of a message that would telegraph the longing she herself felt. Eventually, she had realized that she could also be the one sending a message, three dots that would eventually turn into a confession with a much deeper meaning that the one she had almost shouted to everyone in the midst of a proposal that should have never happened. And, at the thought of doing that, at the weight that on itself had brought upon her mind, she had revoked herself from the sentiment: unsure if she was strong enough to bear it.
It had been a fling. She had told herself. An almost maybe. A promise in the shape of a kiss in the middle of an empty road; a brave yet stupid declaration that had kept her on stitches every time she considered coming back there for just a spell. No one should weigh themselves for the things they did back when they were 17.
No one should be that cruel.
Her father said nothing as she run past him, the handle on the main door frozen beneath her fingertips, the shock minute with the way she pulled it back towards her as she stepped into the road once again. Crossing to the other side of the road she stood at the brink of the now empty rail, her boots straining against the metal, the sole of her feet protesting. Beneath the cans, tucked away, a note laid, paper that felt as if it could fling against her fingers if she wished hard enough. Crouching next to the cans, one hand caressing the paint, feeling the coldness coming from it, the slowly drying white, she unfolded the note with two fingers and her teeth, moving the paper away from her as she refused to move her other hand away from the wall.
“I wasn’t sure then. I am now.”
She tried to laugh, a blubber escaping her lips, peal of bubbles that piled up within her as she looked up.
It had been two years. Two stupid years made in a dare, in a flamboyant act of selfish righteousness. But she had gotten to learn that she could be selfish on her own love. If that made sense. It the words she had uttered had been something beyond an escapist explanation of why she had ever convinced herself that what she was doing was nothing but right. It shouldn’t be this complicated. It didn’t need to be. She had gotten the taste of how it could not be if she dared to look past the circle she had put herself in once.
And then, as a distant nagging sensation, her phone buzzed on her back pocket. Once, twice.
She never got to see what it was, as she heard the pebbles sliding off the path when a new set of boots moved in closer, waiting for her to look up.
Aster’s was looking at her with the same intensity she had once upon a time looked at her, when they had been in the lagoon and Ellie had thought she would combust if she ever dared to ask to feel her fingers around her forearms once more as she battled for a shirt that she had felt unsafe enough, exposed enough, to keep on wearing. She had her phone on her hand, the light illuminating her skin, her wrist, her nails. She had a stroke of dyed color on her hair. Not clear enough for the descending light to catch on it but deep enough for her eyes to pause on it, on the way it framed her eyes, her face, her smile. Pointing towards the wall, she shrugged half-way.
“Paul told me you’d be here. I wanted to leave as soon as you saw…. But I couldn’t.”
There were hundreds of questions Ellie felt like asking, and some others she didn’t feel like questioning. She could feel her father’s eyes on the kitchen’s windowsill, the scent of already heated food reaching them both as she stood, slowly, while curling her fingers, forming a ball she now made it reach the front pocket of her parka, skin wet and crackling from the humid paint.
She had wondered. Of course, she had. She had expected herself to be bolder in front of Aster only due to the years that had passed, for the exhilarating thought of maybe she being right.
She was none of those things: she felt robbed of both voice and temper. There was nothing but the ache on her muscles of thousands of steps never taken. Yet, she realized that she quite liked the thought: of the possibility that the message on her phone could be, even if she never dared to look at it.
“It’s been two years.” Her voice felt rough at the back of her throat, her tongue like wood and sand, the same sand she hadn’t gotten to see until she had left. And even then. Aster halted at her, lips half-closed, a look of recognition shining through her eyes. Laughing weakly, she nodded again, giving her a second half-shrug, this time aimed at both, rather than the wall that now extended at Ellie’s right, like a page about to be filled.
“You said two.”
“I said two.”
It was an idiotic set of words, combinations and grammar be dammed. Yet Ellie laughed a little as they kept on looking at each other. As if expecting something. She had been the one rushing last time, hasn’t she? Was that what was expected from her? To be the one keeping the promise she had told.
But then, Aster moved forward, timidly at first, more secure later, and promptly grasped her forearm, the one with her painted skin, and pulled, making her stumble as her fingers slipped away from the pocket, crusty and suddenly warm enough to be melt. She pushed back, because that had been them, at the very beginning, before anything had transformed into the mess that had been. And when she did, muscles answering, she felt a second pull, this one on her shoulder, poignant glance darkening the space.
Her lips felt numb at the end of everything, her chest open, her eyes hurting when her eyelids responded.
“How about no more waiting?”
This time she didn’t answer. Not with words.
Words could be screwed. And promises of a time that should be spent waiting scattered in the wind, against the windows, over the rooftops, beyond the town’s sign.

Falling in love with Aster Flores in 1hr and 45m (aka watching THE HALF OF IT)
Hi, it’s Dana and today I’m going to be reviewing THE HALF OF IT!
I am so excited; I have been waiting for this movie since the trailer first came out weeks ago so it’s safe to say that my expectations are high and I truly hope that this will be rememorable.
I also did a reaction to the trailer of THE HALF OF IT so if you haven’t seen that the link is here.
I think that’s all I really have to say so read on to see my reaction to THE HALF OF IT...
Tumblr media
This is just a lovely way to start a movie and I have noticed that a lot of movies do that. I personally really like the simplicity of adding a meaningful quote at the beginning of a movie (especially if it’s actually corely related, not just added for the sake of adding it) because it gives it that book-like, nostalgic feeling.
Tumblr media
In the first few seconds of the movie we already have that idea of soulmates explained in some really creative animation and lovely narration. What I’m thinking is that obviously alluding to that connection between Aster and Ellie being almost soulmate-like.
Tumblr media
And here we have Ellie who is scientific and rational and doesn’t believe in soulmates. Oh, she is going to find that everything she has once believed in is going to be proved so so wrong once she meets Aster and I just can’t wait!!!!
Tumblr media
Ellie’s mum. We don’t know what has happened to her yet. Is she dead? Has she left? Is she missing? Was there an accident? But what we do know is that she is the reason why Ellie has closed herself off from other people and believes that love is irrational and meaningless. Therefore, for Ellie to truly accept her feelings for Aster she’ll have to face her mum and I am not ready for this; this is going to most likely be such an emotional part of the movie and I will definitely be crying my eyes out as I attempt to write up this review.
Also, Ellie has a lot of checklists and I feel that vibe because that is pretty much my whole entire life.
Tumblr media
Mr Flores? As in Astra Flores?
I think the music teacher might be Aster’s dad and I feel like that’s going to relate in someway. I don’t *exactly* know how - yet - but I will ponder on it throughout the review.
So Aster is also in her dad’s class and she has such a beautiful voice, seriously, listen to it; she sounds like an actual angel and she makes it look so effortless. I understand why everyone likes her so much because even I want to marry her!
I think that Ellie has a crush on her even before she meets her in the corridor and that’s quite cool considering that the trailer made it look as though she gained a love at first sight crush on her (which she obviously doesn’t believe in).
Tumblr media
Ellie’s philosophy teacher, who is quite close to her, knows about her essay writing business but never actually turns her in. This was a question I had during my trailer review because I was wondering how none of the teachers have noticed (or they were all just blind).
Another question about the essay business I had was how she manages to get away with writing around the same essays for everyone. However, it turns out that Ellie writes different essays for everyone and that is just amazing.
Also, Ellie was talking about leaving or staying for university so I think that’s also going to be a big thing. I hope that she ends up leaving at the end for her own sake.
Tumblr media
Wow, okay, was it just me or did you feel that sexual tension too?
Because that just took my breath away and just made me love Aster even more. I didn’t even know that I could love her more but just watching her talk to Ellie was so beautiful and I just love her. Wow.
She’s so smart and so knowledgable about everything. I just want her to talk to me for hours and hours about anything that comes to her mind.
Aster also has known Ellie for some time which was a surprise because from the trailer I thought that they only met there for the first time. Hmmmm...maybe Aster also has feelings for Ellie????
Tumblr media
I’m sensing a theme. Almost feels like a philosophy essay on love...maybe.
Tumblr media
Everyone seems to be hanging out in the church which is quite different, I guess.
Tumblr media
Aw, Aster is insecure about being at the peak of popularity and she’s being extremely honest about this to someone she’s only just met. This really shows that even through Ellie’s writing, Aster can tell that the person who’s writing this is genuine and someone she can trust to open up to.
(Also, she should drop her friends and find other people who don’t try to boost their own ego by bringing you down to their level. You are above them. Aster! They are nothing like you, honey!)
Tumblr media
But her boyfriend’s quite funny and cute (in like a puppy kind of way). I know we’re meant to not like him because he’s getting in the way of Aster and Ellie but if they just break up I feel like he’ll just be a bit of a cool guy. I love how he has taco time with his girlfriend because that’s just too cute (and also makes me quite hungry).
Tumblr media
This.
This.
Oh my, this is just beautiful.
They created art together from a bunch of lines that just so happened to get together.
Wow.
They are goals.
Tumblr media
...this, on the other hand, is anything but.
I feel so bad for Aster being letter-fished (y’know, like catfished?) like that. She just wants someone who understands her at that deep sort of level; someone she can talk to about philosophy and art and literature; she needs Ellie (or me because I love books, abstract art, and philosophy too - hit me up, Aster!)
Tumblr media
Omg, guys, is Aster Flores my soulmate?
She laughs at horror films! I laugh at horror films! I have seriously never met anyone else who’s crazy enough to laugh at horror films apart from Aster and I am astonished.
Why is she perfect in every way for me?????
However, I do find it extremely creepy how they’re basically stalking Aster and learning everything about her, writing every detail on whiteboards, windows, and notebooks.
Tumblr media
I just love the contrast between Paul’s energetic, lively, and chaotic family contrasting with Ellie’s small and quiet home atmosphere.
Tumblr media
What’s a taco sausage? A taco with sausage pieces? A hotdog but with a taco shell instead of a bun? A taco shell in the shape of a sausage?
It turns out that Ellie’s mum died when she was quite young.
Tumblr media
Paul ends up finding out about Ellie’s crush on Aster quite early on. Actually, everything in this movie happens quite early on which I like because it just gets to the point of the plot without beating around the bush, constantly keeping the audience on their toes. I just love this movie so much.
What I also love is how Paul doesn’t go “you’re gay????” with all those question marks. It’s just normalised without questioning the gender of who she loves; just the person. Paul is actually just a cinammon roll at heart and he does deserve to find love but not with Aster (and I hope he learns that).
Tumblr media
I’d probably eat that.
Tumblr media
Hmmmm I’m thinking that this might be a bit of foreshadowing for the ending. I predict that Ellie leaves Squahamish and as the train is leaving, Aster (or maybe even Paul because I can’t see Aster running after trains) runs after her to say goodbye.
Hearing them eat those taco sausages has actually made me quite hungry.
Tumblr media
Awwwwwww look at this boy; he is too cute to handle; he deserves so much love.
Ellie’s song - oh my. Can you just imagine her having a duet with Aster singing this song? And the fact that everyone claps is just beautiful.
Tumblr media
Just no. Please, no. Please, stop, you’re only hurting yourself here. She has a name, please use it.
Also, Ellie’s sudden popularity??? Drunk Ellie??? Protective Paul???
Their friendship is everything that is needed in the world.
Tumblr media
Okay, so if I thought that the corridor seen had sexual tension well...this...is on a whole other level.
Aster is conflicted between her destiny to marry Trig and how understood she feels when “Paul” writes to her.
Tumblr media
Also I am here for the bromance between Ellie’s dad and Paul.
Tumblr media
THIS. SHOT. IS. EVERYTHING.
It sort of reminds me of the lake scene in After - except better.
(Btw, this was kind of their first date. Right?)
Tumblr media
Ummm...okay...WHAT DID I JUST WATCH?
WTF PAUL?
Paul, oh my, are you okay? Paul, honey, you were a cinammon roll. I cared about you, Paul. I believed that you deserved to find love when you finally realise you’re just not right for Aster.
Paul, I know that you’re not the brightest bulb in the shop but - this is not what I meant. This is not how I wanted conflict to arise.
This movie was going so well having this PLATONIC friendship that is sweet, caring, and supportive.
Paul, you’ve ruined it.
But, you know what the most annoying part is??? It’s the fact that I know at the end of this movie him and Ellie are probably going to make up and they’re going to brush that near kiss off as Paul being cofused or something and everything will be happy.
Usually, I enjoy watching something that I did not expect and the movie has been delivering that so far - including this. This, on the other hand, I did not like.
What kind of signals are you getting, Paul????
I seriously just want to know what’s going through this guys mind when he asks Ellie “You don’t want me to kiss you?” because she has seriously shown no signs of wanting to kiss him. Not gonna lie, Paul, but I think Ellie would rather make out with a bottle of Yakult than you!
I don’t know, I feel like that just ruined this movie for me. Going into this movie I knew that there will be something that causes a rift in their friendship but I thought this movie was better than using that over-used plot of platonic friendship turning into something more (or something like that, anyone ever watched Naomi and Eli’s No Kiss List? Well that’s what I’m sort of talking about).
There’s about 25 minutes left in the movie so I guess we’ll get through it (I just hope that somehow Paul redeems himself because even Trig seems more of an appealing character now).
Tumblr media
Wait.
I swear we established this way at the beginning of the movie.
I’m so confused.
Tumblr media
Wow, too far Paul.
I seriously take back every nice thing I said about you earlier being accepting, lovely, caring, and all that because this scene has just ruined him for me. I can’t believe they’re kind of making Paul the antagonist!!!! He had so much potential and they just did that.
There is just no way he’s redeeming himself at the end. I wouldn’t make friends with him again after this.
I really just want to fight him at this point; he just needs to go away; I’m not happy at all.
Tumblr media
Why is the only good guy in this movie Ellie’s dad? Seriously, there is not a single good guy and that just makes me so annoyed.
Tumblr media
I can confirm.
I feel so bad for Aster, seeing the one person who she thought understood her (Paul) try to kiss Ellie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And you don’t either Paul.
I’m pretty sure Ellie’s dad understands her a lot more than you could any day so don’t go around thinking that you really know her because if you did then you wouldn’t have said what you said.
Tumblr media
AND THIS IS THE REASON WHY YOU ARE A QUEEN ASTER FLORES!
Paul got what he deserved and I had to replay that soooo many times just to get that satisfaction.
(Personally, I think that Aster should have slapped Paul and then kissed Ellie amongst all the triggered homophobes).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This shot is just beautiful. They know they’re both heading in different paths, with Ellie deciding to go to Grinnell and Aster going to art school and this might just be their last chance to get things right between them.
Tumblr media
Are we seeing this???
THIS IS EVERYTHING I WANTED FROM THIS MOVIE!
Even though they’re not ending up together their is that agreement that they like each other and they might even wait for each other after university.
That was just the best goodbye ever. I am so proud of Ellie’s confidence growth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ew, no, not you again.
I thought we were done with this guy after he got slapped.
Why can’t it be Ellie’s dad wishing her a farewell???
I can’t believe she just forgives him after he told her she’s basically going to go to Hell and we don’t even see him say sorry to her. I just hate how we were made to love him and...
Oh he’s running after the train oh my, I hate this so much.
Alright, this running and this goodbye would have been cute if all that stuff before didn’t happen - but it did. And no matter how much I try I can’t see Paul the same way no matter how much he attempts to make it up to Ellie.
Paul doesn’t deserve her tears.
(say it with me kids)
The most annoying thing is the fact that this was meant to be a friendship-centric story so I did expect that Aster and Ellie wouldn’t be the main focus but they just ruined the friendship and attempted to restore it in the last 25 minutes through Paul’s speech at church. This wasn’t a friendship story and Paul wasn’t a good friend.
Paul, in the first half was a good friend (the best) and had so much potential. Paul, in the second half destroyed first half Paul and replaced him with his evil homophobic twin brother.
Lol maybe that’s why they call it THE HALF OF IT!
At this point, I don’t even have anything to say except for the fact that I am very much disappointed in Paul’s storyline and what Netflix thinks is a “platonic friendship between a guy and a girl” (or a friendship in general).
As for Aster and Ellie, they got the ending I partially expected with Ellie deciding to leave Squahamish for university and them going their separate ways after that brilliant kiss (there are no words to describe the thick sexual tension between these two people).
Aster in general is just an amazing person who deserves to rule the world and I hate how she had to go through that letter-fishing but the upside is that she has time to figure herself out and what she wants in life at art school without fake friends and Trig holding her back.
I’m happy that Ellie gets to leave Squahamish but I feel sorry that her dad has to hang out with Paul the homophobe back home (I hope his taco sausage business fails and I’m not even sorry).
Anyway, that was a bit of a disappointment but if I just the almost kiss part out of my mind then it’ll be less traumatic.
What did you think of the movie? Good? Bad? Still angry with Paul? Tell me in the comment! Bye!

the elementalists/band au
beckett harrington wasn’t the type of person who put off studying to go to a concert- he honestly wasn’t the type of person who would go to a concert period. eliana elidi was the one person who had the ability to drag him out of the library to attend such events.
at the moment beckett was questioning how he had even let this happen, he had found a nice little corner to wait in until eliana arrived and somehow he was still being pestered. the group near him had been jumping up and down as an excuse for dancing for a good 15 minutes now, drunkenly screaming/singing along with the half decent band.
god- why did penderghast even have a battle of the bands? beckett continued to moodily stare into his drink, compulsively checking his watch every 30 seconds or so until a voice that wasn’t a drunken scream brought him out of his pouting.
“hey penderghast! how are we doing tonight?!”
his eyes snapped to the stage as the crowd screamed in response. eliana was up there. beckett’s brows furrowed in confusion as she continued.
“we’re really excited to play for you guys tonight! i’m eliana, this is griffin, zeph, atlas, and shreya!” she went on, pointing to griffin on the drums, zeph at the keyboard, and atlas and shreya each holding a guitar.
now beckett was really confused! when had his friends had time to form a band? when did they practice?! how did beckett not know about any of this!?
“we’re the ouroboros! now it’s time to get excited!” eliana smiled a dazzling smile, eyes searching the audience as she put a hand on her hip.
her warm brown eyes somehow seemed to pierce through his own. becketts eyes widened as eliana winked, a flush creeping up his neck.
the ouroboros started to play an upbeat song, every one of them surprisingly good at what they were doing. eliana cocked an eyebrow as her dazzling smile melted into a teasing grin, stepping forward to grip the mic.
beckett felt his cheeks getting warm as he let his eyes travel up and down her body. a tight black dress clinging to her every curve, turquoise hair up an a messy ponytail, her lips painted a bright cherry red. he was barely even listening to the words she began to sing, too distracted by how beautiful her voice was to pay attention to anything else.
he began to shove his way closer to the stage, elbowing his way through the crowd, never even taking his eyes off eliana. why hadn’t she told him she was performing! he would have gotten a better placement to begin with!
beckett smiled up at her in awe once he found himself successfully in the front row. allowing himself to fully enjoy the moment he took in the band.
shreya was dancing around, singing backup as she played. atlas was nodding along with the song, following along with her bass guitar. griffin’s smile was so big as he drummed that beckett could feel his own smile growing. zeph’s fingers danced at the keyboard, he didn’t seem to be taking himself too seriously as he played, grinning at the audience and laughing.
but beckett had to admit that eliana was easily the most natural up there. she flawlessly danced along to the music, hips swaying in time to the beat. her voice without a doubt the most beautiful he had ever heard. her dress was so... everything about her was radiant as she performed.
“they’re amazing right!?”
beckett looked down to his left, aster was smiling up at him. he nodded at her and turned back to stare up at eliana. aster continued, not even noticing that beckett’s attention was elsewhere.
“we couldn’t find you earlier beckett! eli was so worried that you changed your mind about coming. she almost left to go find you at the library but it was too close to when they were performing so atlas didn’t let her go.”
beckett rolled his eyes at that. she would do something that reckless. leave right before she was supposed to perform just to drag him here.
“well eliana never told me she was performing tonight so i was waiting by the door for her.” he said, voice slightly bitter, still annoyed with the fact his friends left him out on such an important detail.
aster put her hand on beckett’s elbow and smiled reassuringly, “don’t worry! the trees told me that they saw you walking here so i knew that you weren’t going to miss anything!”
beckett began to respond but something caught his attention out of the corner of his eye. he looked up at the stage to see eliana glowing. she was literally glowing.
his eyes widened as he took in what he was seeing- she had performed some sort of sun spell that had everyone radiating light. beckett gasped softly at her beaming smile, eliana was looking right down at beckett as she sung the last few notes of the song.
the room was quiet for a few moments as the song came to a close. eliana was breathing heavily, her intense gaze locked with beckett’s. beckett couldn’t understand why his heart was beating so fast as he and eliana stared into each others eyes, but he also couldn’t understand how one person could be so perfect without even trying at all, so he was okay to not understand everything at the moment.
suddenly the silence broke and everyone was cheering, screaming a little bit too loud for beckett’s taste. the crowd rushed forward to get to the stage as the band members came up to interact with the crowd, eliana was crouched down to grab at hands, smiling her ever so charming smile as she did.
beckett started to hold his ground unwilling to give up the spot he worked for, it was easily the best view in the place! and he had to stay close so he could chide her for not informing him she was performing!
a hand was placed on his shoulder, he looked down to see aster. she was surprisingly rooted in one place for someone so small in a crowd this rowdy.
“come on,” she whisper-yelled in his ear. “shreya said she would make sure we were able to get backstage after they were done.”
///
ellie was pretty darn proud of herself. this night was going perfectly! there was one bump in the road considering beckett almost didn’t show up in time… but things happened even better than she had planned!
she had to put aside the disappointment of beckett not seeing the band's first performance as she got on stage, a sort of confidence she only got when she was performing coming over her as she looked out into the audience.
but she was so looking forward to seeing the shock on his face! she wanted to see how he would react to it all! would he be impressed with her? ellie had to admit that she knew beckett had some sort of feelings for her, the amount of almost kisses they had was a little impressive if not disappointing at this point.
she pushed the thoughts away and began her little welcome speech. right as it was ending her eyes found his. he was here! as ellie began to sing she watched him clamor his way to front, his eyes never leaving her, his face flushed as she performed just for him.
ellie grinned at herself in the dressing room mirror as she thought back on the last 10-ish minutes. god it felt like hours had past since she first got on the stage! and now she was standing here waiting for someone to bring beckett to the dressing room which was taking much too long.
she was going to confess to him tonight. she had to! she couldn’t keep pretending to be just friends with him any longer! and if all went according to plans than they would kiss. and kiss. and kiss!
atlas had asked her what came next but ellie didn’t have a next step. she would let what comes next come naturally. which of course atlas was disgusted at that response, but it was true! ellie would be lying to herself if she said she wasn’t thinking about what would happen if they were guaranteed more than 10 minutes in the dressing room…
ellie’s heart leapt at the sort knock at her door. she took one last look at her appearance before winking at the reflection. a lot of effort was put into this look! and more than half of the effort was listening to shreya loudly disagree to every dress they found.
“come in,” ellie shouted, twisting to face the door.
the moment beckett was through the door ellie launched into her speech. she rushed towards him, one hand tugging at the hair tie keeping her hair up, the other wiping away her red lipstick.
“ah good! someone’s here,” she turned her back to him and looked up into his eyes from over her shoulder as he shut the door.
“would you unzip me? i’m trying to hurry and get out of this thing before the next group needs to get in.”
becketts eyes widened, his face immediately growing a violent shade of red. he cleared his throat and shook his head slightly, avoiding ellie’s eyes.
“you want me to unzip your dress?” he asked, his voice sounding a little too forced.
“please! preferably before we get kicked out of here!” she smiled, rolling her eyes with fake annoyance.
she had expected some resistance to this rather forward question but his reactions were pure gold! ellie had to turn so he wouldn’t see her stifling the giggle that was threatening to overtake her.
///
beckett gulped as his hand brushed against the back of eliana’s neck. this whole situation was not unlike one of the many dreams his unconscious mind had cooked up. dreams that always ended up with beckett waking up to take care of a problem...
what was even going on! everything that was happening was absolutely bizarre! aster has brought him backstage where his friends bombarded him with affection (excluding atlas of course) before they had left. not before zephyr had the chance to point beckett in the direction of the dressing room though, leaving beckett alone to find eliana. the second he walked in she was in his personal space asking him to undress her?
his hands shook as he slowly tugged at the zipper. he could feel his already pounding heart in his ears as more and more of eliana’s back was revealed. he nearly choked when he realized she wasn’t wearing a bra.
“god beckett,” she said, her fingers brushing against his as she reached back to unzip the remainder of the dress. “have you never seen a topless girl before?”
“eliana i-“ he began before she cut him off, bending down to pick a shirt off the ground, leaving little space between him and the black thong she was wearing.
beckett just stood there speechless as she slid her arms into a white button up shirt. he couldn’t pretend that he wasn’t very turned on at the moment, there was no way he could hide what eliana was doing to him.
she turned to face him, eyebrows raised and smiling softly despite the heat behind her gaze, hands still working at the buttons. beckett couldn’t help himself as he drunk in the sight of her. the way she made him feel without even trying was astounding.
“hey,” she whispered, reaching up to lightly trace at his jaw.
he leaned into her touch as he met her warm brown eyes. he wanted more than anything to kiss her, to touch her, but he didn’t want to do anything she didn’t want as well.
eliana stood up on her tiptoes, bringing her face impossibly close to his as she muttered, “do you want something from me beckett?”
///
becketts reactions had gone from pure gold to absolutely perfect! ellie had ditched her original plan of straight up confessing that she liked him to teasing the shit out of him. how could she not when he was shaking with anticipation at unzipping a dress!?
and now she was basically naked in front of him, breath mingling with his, waiting for him do something! she had practically sent him every sign she could think of!
she traced her finger down his neck, gently biting her lower lip, eyes never leaving his dilating pupils. ellie smiled as his breath caught in his throat.
how had he not responded to her at all!? she wanted more than anything to kiss him like there was no tomorrow but also wanted him to kiss her. there was something about making him suffer that turned her on.
suddenly he brought his hand up to grab hers as she dragged it lower and lower to the bulge in beckett’s pants, his eyes widening as his hips jerked forwards.
“ellie,” he growled softly, thumb tracing against the inside of her wrist, leaning his head down so the words tickled at her lips, “can i kiss you?”
ellie’s felt heat flare in her stomach at his words. she figured she would stop the teasing- at least for now- she wanted to kiss him too much to continue.
“i thought you would never ask.”
beckett crashes his lips to ellie’s and she immediately deepened the kiss, licking at his lower lip as she ran her fingers through his thick hair.
he groaned and responded in kind, tongue slipping into her mouth, hands rubbing at her hips. ellie moaned and brought her leg up around beckett, bringing them flush together as his hips bucked forwards in response. beckett broke the kiss, breathing heavily, to stare down at ellie.
“ellie,” he started, hands still massaging at her hips when a knock sent the two flying apart.
“hey, wrap it up in there! the next group is almost done!”
ellie turned to pluck a pair of jeans off the floor, not letting beckett see her flaming face.

We’ve gotten a ton of snow where I live, so I’ve spent the snow day catching up with all of your work and I’m 🥺. Whenever you get the chance, I’d love to see more of Ellie and Beck, especially Beck showing the other kids in her class that he does know her!
Oh I hope that you're nice and toasty! We were supposed to get snow, and it was the most pathetic thing in the world! So it will take Beck getting back from his mission before he gets to confront Miss Samantha...so this one might be a bit of a long one. There's going to be tears, cuteness, fluffiness. And I may ruin a bit of Ellie's birthday surprise, but I didn't want to spend too much time at Disney World.

"But but how long are you going to be gone?” Ellie leans back to look at the NASA clad Beck, both her and her mom getting to say their final goodbye to him before his mission.  Her little hand rubs along his cheek, and Aster tries to be strong for the two of them, but seeing her daughter cling to him, it’s bittersweet.  All she’s ever wanted was for Ellie to have a good strong father figure, and she has it.
Beck starts to speak, but has to stop himself when he sees the tears pool in Ellie’s eyes.  “Pumpkin, we talked about this.  I’m gonna bring you a star back.”
“But it won’t be real, and I want you,” the conversations of him leaving were plenty, but it didn’t hit Ellie that he was actually leaving until they were there, the shuttle in the background like her arch nemesis.  “I don’t need a star.”
“I know, but we gotta show that Samantha that you know me, right?  I got a surprise for you, okay?  For when I get back.  And every night, you can look at the moon, and see me.”
“No I can’t, you’ll be too far away, not in yours and mommy’s bed,” she lays her head down on his shoulder.  Her little hands rubbing and patting his back.  “I want you to stay here, I love you.”
Beck looks up at the ceiling, his tears flowing down his face now.  “I promise,” he has to stop himself, and realizing that Becks is crying Ellie starts sobbing on his chest.  “Pumpkin, I got you the moon buddy.  You can hug him every night.”
“I wanna hug you though.”
“Ellie,” Aster starts to pull her off of Beck, but she smacks at her mom.  “Ellie belly, you can’t...we’re supposed to be saying goodbye.”
“No!  I don’t want to say goodbye.  Please, Becks, don’t leave me,” she stops to lean back to look at him; face all splotchy and tear stained.  “I promise I’ll be a good girl, I don’t care about Samantha, just don’t leave me.  I won’t crawl in the bed with you no more, if you stay.”
“We don’t have to say goodbye.  Just I love you...” he presses his lips against her forehead, “To the moon and back.  But I have to get there so I can get back.  And we’ll talk and video call.”
“But...”
“No, Pumpkin, I’ve got to go, but I’ll be back, and with a surprise.”
“But but...you never got to tell me happy birthday before.”
“Aunt Ree is taking you to Disney World, and I’ll tell you,” he turns when he gets a yell from the Captain saying it was time to wrap it up.  Pulling Aster in for a group hug, he holds on tight to the two people who mean more to him than life itself.  Aster pulls him down for a bruising kiss, while Ellie still buries her face in his chest, her hands clinging tight to him, like she can hold him on earth forever.  “I’ve gotta go,” he struggles to hand Ellie to Aster.  Her body flailing around and scream crying as he gives them both a final kiss.
Walking onto the shuttle he wipes away his tears, “Doesn’t get any easier,” Whatney tells Beck.  “Never thought I’d see you tied down.”
“They’re perfect though.  Now I gotta get proof that my girl knows me.”
________________________________________________________________
“Becks!” Ellie cries when she sees Beck’s smiling face in the screen.  She turns to give her mom a quick giggle, and then back at the screen.  “Where are you?”
“We’re about to land, Pumpkin.  Are you outside?” she nods into the camera, her face hardly lit up with how dark it is.  Leaning back against Aster’s chest as they both stretch out on the blanket staring up at the moon.  “You looking up at the moon?”
“Uh huh!”
“Holding onto your moon buddy?”
“Yes huh!”
“Give his hand a squeeze, Pumpkin,” Ellie looks back at Aster who just smiles down at her, and she gives the moon buddy’s hand a squeeze, hearing Beck’s sweet voice sing, ‘At night, when the stars light up my room. I sit by myself, talking to the moon.  Trying to get to you.  I love you and your mommy so much Pumpkin I’ll be back soon.”
“Becks,” Ellie gives a tearful giggle.  “Oh I think I see you,” her hand waves up at the moon, and Beck tries to hold back his tears, waving back.
“I see you and Starlight, Pumpkin.  I’m waving right back.  You be good for mommy and I’ll see you soon.  Love you two.”
“I love you, Beck,” Aster blows a kiss towards him, and he pretends to catch it, placing it on his cheek.  “You’re so cheesy.”
“Love you Becks!  Hurry home.  Mommy brought my star caster in her room, and I just keep your side of the bed warm for you okay?”
“Okay.  I gotta go, but I’ll talk to you soon,” He places his helmet on his head, giving the two of them a quick wink before ending the call and starts to get in his suit.  Ready to get this mission over with and get back to his family.
“You’ve got it bad,” Captain Lewis laughs checking over his suit.  “Cute kid.”
“The cutest.  Is it illegal to write something on the moon?” Lewis looks at him confused.  “See there’s this brat girl, and she...she called my kid a liar, when Ellie told her she knew me.”
“It’s not illegal,” she walks away towards the exit ready for everyone to head out.
As soon at they’re out on the moon, Beck asks Martinez for a favor, handing him the camera when he uses his foot to clear out the perfect spot.  “Little brat, calling my girl a liar.  I’ll show her.  Alright, you got this,” he looks at Martinez who is carrying on about Beck trying to get revenge on a four year old.  “My kid isn’t a liar,” he starts using his gloved finger to write out, Ellie belly, my pumpkin, before looking up at the camera smiling beside her name.  “Take that Samantha.  Stupid brat.”
“Picking fights with a baby.”
“She’s a bully.  And my Ellie isn’t a liar!”
________________________________________________________________
“Ellie,” Aster gently taps her daughter sprawled out on her bed.  Her arm wrapped tightly around her moon buddy, and Aster gives his hand a little squeeze to hear Beck’s voice singing to them.  “Ellie, baby, it’s time to wake up.  You’ve got a fancy present on the chair to open.”
“Go back to sleep.”
“Ellie, you get to meet your princess Belle today, and you have a big present waiting for you to open.  It’s from Beck,” Ellie turns her head to look at her mom, and raises to look at the gold wrapping paper.  Jumping up quickly, and still holding her moon buddy she starts ripping the paper off.  “We’ve got the Halloween party at the park later.  I didn’t bring you a costume though,” she smiles when her daughter screeches.
“It’s like the real thing!  Mommy look,” pulling out her very own yellow Belle ball gown, and she hugs it tightly to her chest.  “Can can we take a picture of it to send to Beck?”
“Yes baby.  Aunt Ree got you some more presents, too.  After breakfast.”
Ellie can hardly contain her excitement.  Wanting to put the dress on as soon as possible, but Story just tells her to wait.  Sending the boys out to have some fun when stylists walk in their room.  “So, that’s the birthday girl,” she points over at Ellie who just giggles and wiggles around.  “Ellie, you gotta have Belle’s hair right?  And nails?”
Having a girls day with just your daughters and granddaughters, getting pampered and ready for the Not So Scary Halloween.  Oohing and ahhing when Ellie puts on her dress.  Aster wearing a Princess Tiana inspired dress.  “Mommy, you don’t match.”
“Belle is your princess.  Tiana is mine, she’s a hard worker, and got what she wanted.”
Ellie’s eyes look all around the park as they’re lead to meet Belle.  Wanting to soak everything in.  The way it’s decorated, the way it smells, the sounds, the lights, everything.  Marching directly to her, and Ellie is all giggles and smiles as she hugs onto her.  “Where where’s your prince?”
Belle gives her a soft smile, “You’re Belle tonight aren’t you?” with her cute Ellie giggle she nods.  “He’s up there,” Belle points up a few steps to see the prince with their back to them.  “Go on.  You deserve your dance.”
She slowly walks up the steps almost embarrassed about dancing with a stranger, looking back at her mom, who uses her hands to gesture her forward.  Ellie takes a deep breath when the prince turns around, “Becks!” running into his arms, she grips him tightly.  “You came back, and you’re all dressed up.”
“Just for you, Pumpkin.  And now, I can say it...”
“Say what?” her glossy eyes lean back to look at him and to pet his cheek, while Aster stands in the distance softly crying at her whole world.  Ransom walks behind her to hold onto her gently.  Gazing at the man that has stolen both his daughter and granddaughter’s hearts.
“I wanna be mad, angel, but I can’t hate that man,” Aster pats at his hand, “He’s a good one.  Perfect for you and Ellie.  Don’t push him away because you’re scared.”
“I don’t want to daddy.”
Beck looks at Ellie’s chubby little face, rubbing his nose against hers, “I love you to the moon...”
“And back!" she finishes, before nuzzling her face agsinst his.
________________________________________________________________
Beck sits quietly in the back of the classroom with Ellie on his lap.  Her hand holding onto a canvas, while the other holds her moon buddy.  The both of them waiting on the student to finish their show and tell.  Her little hand goes to his cheek and gives him a little pat when the teacher calls her name.
“I brought...” she stops and looks at Beck, who gives her a soft smile and nods his head.  “I brought my moon buddy that Becks gave me before he left, but also,” she flips around the canvas to show Beck smiling with a thumbs up beside her name on the moon, “I didn’t want my...” her feet wiggle a bit, deciding it’s best to change her words, “Becks, I didn’t want him to leave.  And he came back and brought me a star, and my mark on the moon.”
“It looks like sand.”
“Samantha,” the teacher scolds and looks back to Ellie.
“It’s not.  It’s the moon,” Samantha rolls her eyes and shakes her head.  “It is.  My dad went to the moon and wrote my name on it for me,” Beck tilts his head hearing those words come out of Ellie’s mouth, wanting so badly to give her the biggest hug, almost taken aback by how easily it flowed off her lips.  Needing to just hold her, and smell her sweet strawberries and Biscoffs scent, but that brat.
“He’s not even your dad.  Your last name is Henry.”
“Samantha!  Pull a card.”
“He is my dad.  He lives with me, and he plays with me, and he loves me, and brought me back a star, and left me on the moon,” her eyes pout back at Beck.  “You are my dad.  My second dad.”
“No he’s not.”
“Yes, I am.  Miss Katy, I think it’s been a long day for Ellie.  I’ve only just gotten back, and I miss my daughter.  I’m going to sign her out for the day,” he stops at Samantha’s part of the table and leaves behind her own moon buddy before walking up to Ellie, grabbing the canvas out of her hand, and holding her tightly against him.  Not another word spoken to anybody until he gets out of the classroom.  “To the moon and back, Pumpkin.”
“You’re not mad?  I didn’t ask if you wanted to be my dad, and I’m sorry.”
“You didn’t have to, Ellie.  I’m not going anywhere, and I would love to be your second dad.”
“To the moon and back Becks.”

hi jen it’s me again 😏😏😏
thank you so much for giving us your brats so many ellie and becks content lately!!! but is it okay if we get a floofy history of her nickname ellie belly coz i really feel like papa was the one who gave that nickname because ellie as a baby was always milk drunk and then when she was teething, she was always eating papa’s secret stash of biscoff so she had a squishy belly HAHAHAHA
thank you, jen! 💗💗💗💗💗
🍁
It was Papa who gave Ellie her nickname, and while Ellie was a chonky girl, she still wasn't as much of a chunk as Squish!

Ransom can hardly contain his excitement about having two babies at the estate.  Otto is typically with his mom and dad, while Ellie?  She is always with Ransom.  Constantly in his arms is where you’ll find her.  Making sure that she’s always got a clean diaper and well fed.  Ransom adores when her cheeks got extra chubby, so when she sneezes they jiggle a bit.
Holding a Biscoff cookie near her mouth, so Ellie can gum it to mush Aster scolds him.  “Daddy, we talked about this.”
“I know, and I’m not listening.  Why can’t she teethe on Biscoffs?  Look at her, she loves them, Az,” she rolls her eyes and continues packing her things for work.  “Tell her baby, tell mommy that Papa is number one,’ Ellie lets out a bit of gurgles giggling to her mom.
“Well, Ellie, you make sure you’re a sweet girl for Papa, Mimi, and Story okay?” more random chatter is spoken to her mom before Ransom nibbles on that chubby cheek.  Getting a bit of Biscoff mush with it.
“It’s gross, but I missed that,” Aster rolls her eyes giving her dad a kiss before leaving.  “It’s just you and me Ellie girl.  Everyone else is asleep, but I like waking up to spend extra time with you, before Otto comes and takes you away form me, huh?”
He continues playing with the little girl, until his nose curls up, “You’re nasty.  You finished?” letting out another gassy giggle she smiles up at Ransom, “You’re starting to sound just like Otto.  That boy loves to laugh with his toots.  You’re supposed to be a lady,” he playfully chastises her, walking her into the changing area downstairs.
Smiling and cooing down at her, while he has to completely change her, “You are such a stinky girl, Ellie,” washing her off before he puts her in a diaper, searching for an outfit for the chubby girl.  “Wook at this belly.  Goah I could eat it up,” Ransom looks around the room, deciding it is in fact time to bite at that chubby squishy belly.
Leaning back dramatically before he dives right in, nipping and blowing raspberries all over her belly, and Ellie just laughs and giggles uncontrollably.  Leaning back once more, Ellie’s fist clench tightly together while she releases a playful screech, “I’m gonnna get cha belly,” before he’s back to tickling her belly with his mouth.
“Baby, she can barely breathe she’s laughing so hard,” you tell him.  Loving seeing your grumpy cat husband so animated with one of his grandbabies.  He looks down at Ellie, and it’s true.  Her laughs and breaths nearly come out as gasps, and Ransom stands there letting her calm down before inhaling sharply.
“Gonna get my Ellie Belly,” before he ever touches her, those laughs turn into screams.  Her fingers pull at his hair, but still that baby giggles.  “Dis is my Ellie Belly,” he warns her a final time.  Giggling himself.  “Kitten, you know I love our kids, but this...grandbabies are the best.  Why are they happier?”
“Because for the hard parts we let their parents deal with them?”
He turns to gape at you.  Picking Ellie up to squish up against his face, “I will take whatever I can get.  They are precious.  Ellie Belly, Mimi is being mean to Papa.”
“Oh geeze,” rolling your eyes at him, while he continues dressing her.  “We did good, baby.  I know Ellie wasn’t conceived under the best circumstances, nor Otto, but man, they’re perfect huh?”
“Yes, they are,” you kiss along his neck as he does his baby talk, making sure to give her toes a little nibble.  “We have the most perfect grandbabies, and I love it!”

Trains and Passengers [1 of 4]
Trigger Warning: Mentions of Emotional Abuse, Physical Abuse and Domestic Violence.
Inspired by an ask I received, wanting an AU of Aster/Ellie plus an adorable little boy, I’ve decided to take that idea, and run with it! There just seemed to be so much plot, that a one-shot wouldn’t have sufficed. So I bring you the first chapter, out of about four, in Trains and Passengers, an Ellie/Aster AU.
_________________
“You are sure that he isn’t going to find us, right?” The look Aster Flores fixes Paul Munsky with nearly breaks his heart. She’s the thinnest that he has ever seen her, dark circles under one eye, a purple-red bruise surrounding the other eye. She looks beaten down, absolutely exhausted and like her spirit has been broken. In a sense, he supposes that it really has.
Nothing can prepare a person for the day that the man who is supposed to love you forever, starts to use his words and fists against you in pure hatred.
“I promise.” Paul whispers, pulling her suitcases out of his car, refusing to let her lift much. “Squahamish was before me and T.J. met. I was a teenager when I left.”
“And you’re sure that the cabin is still there?” Aster double checks. It isn’t that she doesn’t trust Paul, which is funny that she does at all since he was T.J.’s friend first, but the way he looked at her when she first started wearing sunglasses indoors... He knew what was going on immediately and confronted her.
She supposes the only reason he’s even helping her, the only reason she even trusts him at all, is because of Tommy. The day that T.J. and Aster named Paul the godfather of their newborn son, the man had cried and promised to always protect him.
Three years later, on the day that she broke down and told him about T.J.’s temper, Paul had cried again and promised to not let Tommy get hurt. Paul grew up with an angry Dad, he knew the damage it could do.
So it wasn’t that she didn’t trust him, she just had that natural fear running through her. What if the cabin wasn’t there? What if it wasn’t inhabitable for her and her son? She didn’t have much money, didn’t have any friends other than Paul, and her family had made it clear who’s side they were on. She was whisking her son away to safety, but she hoped it was security too.
“My friend lives across the track from the cabin, she said it’s fine. It’s still standing, and she even went in and tidied up for you guys.” Paul pulls a still sleeping Tommy from his carseat, the boy curling up against his chest and reaching his arms around his Uncle.
“Make sure to thank her for me.” Aster whispers, reaching to rub her son’s back gently, leaning her head against him and whispering. “Tommy, baby, you need to wake up... we have to say goodbye to Uncle Paul.”
“I’ll let you thank her, she promised to check in on you guys when you got there.” He smiled, as the boy in his arms stirred awake slowly. “Hey, little man.”
Big brown eyes stared up at Paul, thick lashes jostling up and down as the young boy blinked slowly at him. “Hi Uncle Paul. Are we going on a train now?”
“You and Mama are, Uncle Paul’s gotta stay at home with Daddy, okay?” Paul hugs the little boy tightly, tucking his nephew’s head under his chin before passing him over to Aster. The brunette hoists Tommy onto her hip, and grabs her suitcase in her other hand without breaking eye contact with Paul.
Tommy just whispers against his Mommy’s shoulder. “Daddy is scary, don’t let him be mean to you, okay Uncle Paul?” And then he’s wrapping his arms around his Mom’s neck and clinging onto her.
“I won’t.” Paul promises, leaning in to kiss the boy’s brown locks before giving Aster a tight hug, squeezing them both against him. “Take care of Mama, okay?”
“I will.” Tommy promises, oblivious to the tears springing to his mothers eyes as she mouths a soft ‘thank you’ at her son’s godfather, her bestfriend.
Paul nods his head, before gesturing to the train, holding back his own tears. “You better go and get your seats, the train’s just about to leave.” He smiles.
Aster hauls them onto the train, finding their seats and settling in quickly. Her bag goes under their seat and she lifts little Tommy up to the window, securing him safely against her legs. The boy waves his chubby toddler arms back at his Uncle until the train picks up enough momentum that Paul disappears from sight.
_________________
When they get to Squahamish, it’s late in the afternoon and the sun is already setting into night.
Tommy has spent most of the day curled up against his Mama playing on her cellphone, while she ignores the thirteen calls that her husband has made. Each time the screen lights up with another missed call or text, Aster and her son share a look of concern.
“Don’t worry baby...” She whispers into his forehead, lips pressed there as he shakes in her arms. “Uncle Paul said he’d handle it, right? Plus, he got Mama a new phone, that way Daddy can’t find us, okay?”
The little boy nods, perking up only as the train starts to come to a stop. “Is this it? Are we here, Mama?!”
Aster nods and it’s like a switch flips in her three year old, the little boy bouncing up and down excitedly, his hand gripping hers and pulling, always pulling towards the exit of the train. She stops him for a second, struggling to get their suitcase out from underneath the seat, and by the time she’s gotten it and is ready to go... Tommy is already off the train.
“Thomas?” She’s shrill. “Thomas Paul Singh?!”
Aster practically sprints off of the train, bag in her hands, her son’s name a scream on her lips as she prays to whatever God there is still out there, that she didn’t just get her baby boy away from a sick monster, only to lose him immediately to another one.
As she steps off of the train and into the station, she hears a sound that stops and starts her heart again.
“Mama, look! I found Uncle Paul’s friend! I saw the letters T-O-M-M-Y! That’s my name, Mama!”
Aster drops her bag and pulls her son into her arms, squeezing him to her chest as a sob wracks her body. “Don’t you ever do that to me again.” She cries.
“You must be Aster.” A stranger’s voice breaks her relief of seeing her son, and she looks up from where she’s kneeling to see one of the most beautiful women she’s ever laid eyes on. “I saw him get off the platform and knew it was you guys, you look just like Paul described.” Ellie smiles and Aster feels faint.
She nods her head slowly, not realizing that she’s staring until the other woman seems to catch on. “We were just about to go find you.” Ellie explains, holding up the handmade paper sign that Tommy must have seen from where he got off the train.
In neon letters it screams “Aster and Tommy!”
Aster’s still silent, her son squirming in her embrace as she finally lets go of him. The stranger in front of her laughs a little, clearly just a little embarrassed of the sign and of the alarming way they met.
“I’m Ellie Chu!” She smiles and holds out a hand.
“I know.” Aster breaks free of her stun and smiles, somewhat awkwardly, and takes the girl’s hand. “I mean I guessed. Paul said you’d be here to greet us.”
Ellie nods this time. “Oh yeah! Should we get you two home? You’re probably exhausted from the trip.”
Aster nods, putting her son down. She watches as Ellie outstretches her hand, clearly to take their suitcase, only to wind up with Tommy grabbing on.
Her smile falters but doesn’t fade, and Ellie walks along beside the tracks with the little boy, only waiting for Aster to catch up to them.
“Squahamish is pretty small, but we do have a main street, I’ll have to show you tomorrow since we are pretty much at your place.” Ellie points at a small cabin just across from them, and Aster feels her heart seize up. She knows most people would regret it, the change from the five bedroom Victorian that had been in her husband’s family for years, to a small two bedroom shack... but to Aster it looks like freedom.
“It isn’t much-” Ellie starts, only to get interrupted by a mesmerized Aster with a smile from ear to ear.
“It’s everything I could have hoped for, thank you.”
Ellie smiles softly, and Aster’s heart skips a beat for a moment, something that she chastises herself for. Here she is, fleeing for her and her son’s life, and getting distracted by a cute girl. Damn Paul Munsky!
“Paul sent me a list of stuff you two needed, so I grabbed groceries.” Ellie unlocks the door, letting Aster and her son inside of their new home. Tommy lets out a yell as he runs at a stuffed dinosaur sitting on the kitchen table. “I also picked up a couple of things that weren’t on his list of essentials.”
At the tears that fill Aster’s eyes, Ellie reaches out to squeeze the other girl’s hand. “I know what it’s like to start over in someplace new, only I had most of my stuff with me... I figured you wouldn’t have the room in your bags to pack certain things.”
Aster nods her head. “I had to leave behind almost all of his toys, I certainly wasn’t looking forward to bedtime tonight with only one of his bears.”
Ellie gives a look that says she understands, and neither of them move to pull their hands away from each other until Tommy turns back to look at them.
“I better get home.” Ellie finally says, moving quickly back to the door. “If you two need anything, I just live across the tracks in that building, okay? I run the train station. So just knock on my booth if you need me.”
Tommy’s mouth drops open as he hears Ellie, his voice getting impossibly high-pitched and excited as he talk-shouts. “You work in the train station?!”
Aster just laughs. “Well now you’ve got his attention, you should stay for dinner, so we can thank you.”
Ellie Chu stays for dinner, and even bed time, regaling little Tommy Singh with stories of the work she does on the trains, the people she’s met. She has Aster captivated as well, but for very different reasons.
As Tommy begins to fall asleep, Ellie excuses herself with a smile. “You should get some sleep too, you’re settled in alright?” She’s genuinely concerned, a breath of fresh air from how T.J. would dismiss her.
Aster nods and smiles, wishing Ellie a good night and then triple-locking the door before crawling into bed next to her three year old and curling around him.
_________________
Mother and Son wake somewhere near Midnight, a sound in the dark outside stirring them from their sleep putting them both on edge. They both freeze temporarily in bed, hoping that if they’re quiet for long enough, the unknown noises will go away.
When they don’t, Aster pulls Tommy into her arms and whispers. “Do you want to go see the trains?”
The little boy nods, and so she wraps him up in a blanket, pulling a shawl from her suitcase to wrap around her own shoulders before she carries him to the door and outside of the cabin to watch.
For a second they watch in silence, the midnight train passing in front of them. Aster hugs Tommy close to her as the train starts fading into the distance, too far now to see, before a soft and concerned voice calls out to them. “Hey Aster, Tommy! Are you alright?”
Aster glances up, a sigh of relief escapes her as she realizes who it is that called out to them. Ellie Chu, working the midnight train. She should have guessed.
“We couldn’t sleep!” Aster calls out, taking a step closer to Ellie, her son clambering down from her arms to get closer to the other woman, or more importantly, the train booth she’s sat in.
Ellie opens the booth doors open wide as Tommy Singh gets close to them, the boy stopping at the doors to stare between her and his Mama. “Can I?” He calls over his shoulder, a soft nod from his Mother sends him scrambling inside, rushing for Ellie. “Cool!”
Aster gets closer too, the girls exchanging a look as Ellie lifts Tommy onto her knee to show him the control panel. “Only touch the button I tell you too, okay?” She makes sure to tell him first, before pointing at the different ones on the control board and explaining what they do. Aster comes closer and closer with each explanation, her eyes stuck on the way her son lights up as Ellie asks him to point which button is which and he gets them mostly correct.
Her heart warms as Ellie lets him press one to make the stop lights turn on and off, and she lets out a laugh as he proclaims loudly that he’s going to be a train “connector” when he grows up, just like Ellie.
Ellie looks at the time before turning back to Aster. “Do you want to join us, it’s pretty cold out?”
Aster blushes, suddenly painfully aware of how embarrassing her thin, pink nightgown is. It’s not very warm, and it covers barely anything, her shawl barely wraps around her shoulders. Ellie’s suggestion is one of concern for her health, nothing more, but Aster still can’t help but blush at the very thought of it.
“Are you sure we aren’t bothering you?”
Ellie shakes her head, a smile coming over her face as she holds Tommy close to her, squeezing together so Aster has enough room to join them in the booth. “Not at all.” She pauses, glancing back down at the time. “The second train is supposed to be here in fifteen minutes, if you want to, Tommy can help?”
Aster nodded her head, the little boy giving out a tired but excited cry of “Yay Mama!” Aster smiled.
“You can share the chair with me, if you want?” Ellie scootches over in her seat just a little, trying to give Aster some room to sit down. “That way you can sit?”
As the three sat together; Ellie, Aster and Tommy, a small pang rang through Aster’s chest. How was it, that she could be so comfortable with a girl she just met, when her own husband kept her terrified.
It wasn’t until she was at home in bed, over an hour later, that she was able to even think about why. Ellie was just a friend, she was nice, she was polite, she was safe... Only she didn’t make Aster feel very safe.
Getting involved with Ellie Chu seemed like the most unsafe thing Aster Flores could ever possibly do.

Hello! First of all, love your fics. ♥️ Waiting patiently for the next chapter of Trains and Paasengers.😊 Is it okay to give a writing prompt? Hahaha! Like how Ellie and Aster's world will collide with Will and Vivian's. :) Maybe they're in the same city and they needed a doctor or even Ellie becoming a doctor under the guidance of Will. Or even the art world will introduce Aster to Vivian. Hahaha they just seem cute together and all the gut feels it will bring.
Writing prompts are always welcome to give, thank you so much for your kind words about my work! I should have the last chapter of Trains and Passengers up in a few days or so! I really hope that you enjoy what I’ve done with your prompt! It was a lot of fun to write, I adore Wil and Vivian, Alice Wu does an amazing job making her characters come to life.

“Tell me again who we’re having dinner with, baby, one of your students?” Wilhelmina Pang peered over towards the bathroom where her beautiful wife was half-dressed, desperately trying to finish curling her hair and applying the last touches of her make-up.
Vivian Shing looked up in the mirror, making eye contact with Wil as the latter did the buttons of her blouse up, rolling her sleeves just slightly - the way Vivian liked it. “Aster Flores.” She replied, setting down her curling iron and reaching for the tube of lipstick. “She’s the painter we hired to do the magic forest backdrops for our spring recital.”
“I see.” Wil smirked, adjusting her collar, before moving to Vivian’s side as the woman struggled to reach behind her for the zipper. “I got it, sweetheart.”
Vivian beamed, turning to face her wife with a blush of gratitude as Wil did her dress up for her. “I think you’ll love her, she’s a fantastic painter. She’s so very innovative, and she is just absolutely brilliant.”
“You used to think that I was brilliant, too.” Wil teased.
With a teasing grin, Vivian leaned in until she was pressed against her wife, faces inches from each other. “Yes, that was before you became a Mother. Now you’re boring, and no fun... I mean our bed time is nine-thirty at night, just how lame is that?”
“You’re the one who falls asleep during Jeopardy.”
“You’re the one that makes me watch Jeopardy, no wonder I fall asleep, Wil.” Vivian smiles, leaning up and kissing her wife’s nose gently, pulling back to look at her. “You aren’t jealous, are you, my love?”
Wilhelmina shakes her head, but it isn’t convincing.
“She’s twenty-two, and we’re going to dinner with her AND her girlfriend, you have nothing to worry about.”
Wil makes a face that Vivian can’t help but laugh at. Her voice playfully hurt-sounding as she protests. “I wasn’t worried anyways.” Her face grows soft as she wraps her arms around Vivian’s waist and draws her in closer. “Besides, you’re mine, even if I have to chase you down in an airport again to keep you here.”
Vivian laughs, brushing the lock of hair that fell from Wil’s ponytail behind her ear. “This time you better kiss me then when I ask you too.” She teases her.
Right before Wil can remind Vivian of all the times she’s kissed her since then, the door bursts open and three little bodies race into their bedroom, practically jumping at each other as they dive on Wil and Vivian.
“Mama! Bowen is teasing me!” Wilhelmina is pounced on by her four year old daughter, the little girl wraps her arms around her mother and wails into her.
“Nuh uh!” The six year old boy immediately retorts, shaking his head as his twin copies his movement.
“She’s telling a fib!” Bence, always the one to escalate the situation, immediately yelps. He sticks his tongue out at his little sister if only to prove her right.
Vivian sees this and immediately scolds him, a warning in her voice as she gives him the look that only mother’s can give. “Bence, leave Mei alone.”
The boy sulks, but only for a moment as Wilhelmina reminds their three young and rambunctious children gently, “You better be good, Nai Nai is coming to watch you, and she’s bringing Caihong.”
The children immediately stop bickering and begin to cheer. While Nai Nai is not their favourite grandma (they claim that their Lao Lao is nicer), all three children absolutely adore their Mama’s little sister Cai.
As Caihong has gotten older, she’s less inclined to play with her niece and nephews, instead choosing to be with her friends. However, Wil and Vivian plan on being out late tonight, and there’s no way that Wil’s Mother would leave her twelve year old unattended at night, so the child has to come along to babysit.
Wilhelmina is happy for her kids, but also feels bad for her poor sister who’s likely going to be delegated to being the children’s play toy for the entire evening.
Vivian smiles at Bowen and Bence, sitting down on the edge of the bed and letting the two boys climb into her lap to press kisses to her cheeks, waving Mei over as well so that Wil can finish tying her tie.
“So what’s the girls name?” Wil asks, her ears perking up as their doorbell rings and the children all sprint towards it excitedly. “The name of your painter?”

“Aster Flores!” The brunette young woman perks up, holding her hand out to Dr. Wilhelmina Pang with an earnest smile. “And this is my girlfriend, Ellie Chu!”
Wil takes her hand and shakes it, before turning to shake the other girls hand as well. “Nice to meet you, Aster. My wife speaks highly of you and your work.”
The young woman blushes slightly as Ellie responds for her. “Aster has plenty of good things to say about Vivian as well. She really enjoys working with her.”
The two women nod their heads at each other, before Wil tries to spark up a conversation. “So what do you do for work, Ellie, are you a painter as well?”
“Oh no.” Ellie stammers. “I’m nowhere near talented enough to paint like Aster does, I’m a junior editor.”
Wilhelmina looks at Ellie like she understands exactly what she’s talking about. “I know. Sometimes when I see Vivian dance, I feel like I’m super untalented.”
Ellie immediately perks up. “I once saw Aster paint a meadow of flowers in about four hours!” She pauses hesitantly. “Sometimes I can barely correct the mistakes in an article in that amount of time.”
The two women begin to gush about how talented the loves of their lives are, excusing themselves to go grab the ladies a drink. Aster and Vivian watch after them, amused smirks settled on both their faces.
“So I think I just noticed something...” Vivian trails off as the women get further away, matching white button-ups and near identical hair styles making it difficult to tell where Wil ends and Ellie begins.
Aster nods her head, feeling a little like she’s in the twilight-zone as the women both cringe when the male bartender speaks to them. She can tell they’ve just been hit on from the way that Ellie - or wait, maybe it’s Wil - she can’t tell from a distance due to the outfit they both decided to wear despite having never met before, steps back and Wil - or maybe it’s Ellie - hesitantly hands over the money for the drinks. “We’re dating the same person, aren’t we?”
“Well not exactly...” Vivian trails off, hearing Wil and Ellie both begin to awkwardly laugh at the bartender and also laugh a little at themselves. “I think that I’m technically married to the person that you’re dating.”
Aster wordlessly holds her hand out to Vivian, a small engagement ring sitting on her finger, her mouth still slightly open as she watches the two interact. Finally she turns slightly to Vivian. “She surprised me last night with this ring, so we’re engaged now.”
Vivan’s eyes widen, both at Aster’s news but at the fact that the two are getting along like they’ve known each other forever, despite it being less than five minutes. “Congratulations Aster! I’m so happy for you both...” She pauses again as the girls turn to walk back to them with drinks. “This is still really weird though.”
Aster nods in agreement. “Definitely weird.”

“And then I had to tell Paul that just because he has a key to our place, doesn’t mean he can come over unannounced and not expect to see something he doesn’t want too.” Ellie rolled her eyes as the table started laughing, Aster going pink in the ears.
“My Mom and neighbour Jay are like that, they’ve definitely walked in on a few things that they regret.” Wil smirks at Vivian, her wife smacking her in the arm lightly with a laugh as she also blushed with Aster.
“We took both of their keys away.” Vivian admits.
The four of them enjoy a nice dinner together, a few bottles of wine are opened and the conversation is all over the place; anecdotes from all four of their careers, full rants about how people treat lesbians and bisexual women, and even a few comments about the children that Vivian and Wilhelmina have.
It’s nice being able to talk to the younger couple about the process they went through with the kids, how Vivian carried the twins and then Wil was the one pregnant with their youngest. It’s too early for Aster and Ellie to think about having kids, but they still seem interested in asking details for the future.
They even laugh about their significant others attention to details when it comes to decoration.
“I swear, Vivian gets so crazy about decor, she made me paint our daughters room about six different shades before it was finally the right colour!”
“Aster made me move all of our living room furniture three times until it ‘felt right’, I was exhausted!”
“Wil’s favourite colours are so muted, if it weren’t for the kids being around I think we’d look like we were living in a black and white movie or something!”
“I told Ellie to go find some art for our office, her only decorating job, she came back with a horse picture and an actual dogs playing poker painting.”
They laugh when hearing about Ellie and Paul’s antics in writing Aster love letters, the story much funnier now that the hurt and betrayed feelings are gone.
“So, here I am, getting proposed to by my high school boyfriend in my Dad’s church in front of the entire town, and Ellie, just decides to scream out, ‘No!’”
Ellie blushes bright red, embarrassment written clear over her face until Vivian comes to her defense slyly.
“I think it’s cute. This one...” She nudges Wil with her elbow playfully, a smirk on her face, “Wouldn’t even kiss me in a crowded airport to prove her love.”
Wil rolls her eyes back at her wife. “Baby, we’ve been married ten years and have three kids... We got over the airport thing! Besides, I’ve kissed you in plenty of airports since then.” She shares a look with Ellie.
“Two airports.” Vivian teases. “Once during our honeymoon, and then again last summer when we took the kids to Disney Land.”
Ellie glances back at Wilhelmina. “Don’t worry, when I proposed last night, Aster waited a whole two minutes looking around our apartment, before finally turning to me and saying she was waiting to see if anyone would scream ‘No!’ this time around.”
“Remind me again why we put up with this?” Wil glances back at Vivian, only to feel her heart swell like it did all those years ago, and she doesn’t even need to hear Ellie’s answer, but she still humours her.
“Because... Women.” Ellie answers plainly, her own heart swelling as she grabs Aster’s hand and squeezes it, the smile Aster gives her lighting up the room.
“Ah yes, women. Good reason.”
_________________
By the time dessert is over and the bill has been brought; Wil and Ellie have made plans to meet for dinner again the next time the loves of their lives are stuck at work, they’ve also planned to take the kids to a musical in a few weeks, Aster and Vivian not welcome to attend because they’re ‘judgey’.
“Last time we went to a play, you said the set looked like it had been painted by a five year old, Aster!”
“No, I said that I had done better at five years old.”
“You almost got us thrown out of Mei’s ballet class, I’m not letting you get us kicked out of this, Viv!”
“That woman was teaching our daughter all wrong!”
As they leave to return home for the night; Wilhelmina and Vivian to their hopefully sleeping babies, Aster and Ellie to their cat Idgie Threadgoode, there is a round of hugs and handshakes between the couples. Surprisingly, Ellie and Wil are the ones to hug, while Aster and Vivian laugh and shake hands.
“Hey, El?” Wil smiles as the younger girl opens the door for her fiancee. “I’m really glad that your fiancee paints really detailed and talented set pieces.”
Ellie smiles back. “And Wil? I’m really glad your wife is talented and creative enough to have created her own unique ballet so that my fiancee can paint her really detailed and talented set pieces.”

Reacting to THE HALF OF IT TRAILER on Netflix
Tumblr media
Hey, it’s Dana!
As you can tell from the title I’m going to watch the trailer to THE HALF OF IT and deliver my thoughts and predictions while going through the trailer.
So read on for more!
https://youtu.be/B-yhF7IScUE (here’s the link to the trailer if you’re interested).
Tumblr media
Just from the first bit of the trailer, we can obviously tell that this is going to be one of those nerdy-girl tropes which have been played out many many times before.
Another main highlight (which is also the main reason why I wanted to review this trailer) is that Ellie is ASIAN! I do love how Netflix has started introducing more diverse main characters in teenage movies like these because it just shows that, yes, we too experience the same romances and struggles just like every other white teen in the universe.
(However, she does fit into the nerdy-Asian-girl trope which is a bit offputting, especially with the stereotypical glasses and all, but I guess it doesn’t matter *that* much).
Tumblr media
Squahamish? SQUAHAMISH?
Who would name a town Squahamish, let alone decide to *live* in a town called Squahamish?
Is it even a real place?
Tumblr media
Well, it turns out no - but there are many places called Squamish, particularly in Canada.
Tumblr media
Okay, kind of unrelated, but the actress who plays Ellie (Leah Lewis) has a lovely talking voice. It’s really calming, almost velvety and caramelly. I actually advise you to go and watch the trailer just to listen to her voice.
Also, I like that in sync eating with her dad because just by looks and mannerisms you can tell that she and her dad seem alike reflecting how close their relationship may be.
However, this does bring up the question: where’s Ellie’s mum? She might either be dead (to be blunt) or her parents are divorced. I’m leaning towards the former more because that’s such a trope to give a character more depth and add in a little emotional scene.
Tumblr media
Ooooooo okay, my girl’s an entrepreneur at the age of 17 - you go, girl!
Tumblr media
Here it is, our designated love interest to come and swoop nerdy Ellie away *YAWNNNNNNN*
He’s probably going to ask her to write an essay for him and then they’ll fall in love and kiss and break social boundaries and live *happily ever after!*
DisGuSTaNggGg
Tumblr media
This is such a beautiful wide shot.
Nevertheless, I can’t help but wonder how far in the countryside is this Squahamish??? Because the town looks quite lonely.
Tumblr media
Only 10???? Ummmm...Ellie, honey, essays take *effort* and if you’re doing multiple different essays at once then I would definitely charge A LOT more. Seriously, I can barely do my own essays so I don’t know how she’s getting through her own work and all those other essays from other people.
I am wondering if Ellie might get caught by the school for helping other people to cheat because she obviously has written about the same essay topic multiple times for different people and thinking about good points are hard to come up with. There are also other factors like the tone of voice while writing because certain people write in a certain type of way.
Also, this is a teen movie so there should be some aspect of a “moral to the story” and Netflix can’t promote cheating so Ellie may get caught during the climax of the movie.
Tumblr media
So here it is, the guy wants Ellie to write this letter to Aster and then he and Ellie are going to fall in love in the process. GENERIC!
But, on a side note, Aster is very pretty so if she’s available at the end of the movie I’m available too so...
HIT ME UP, GIRL?
I hope they don’t make Aster a bitch but I know that if they go through with the generic storyline of the guy realising he wants Ellie instead of Aster then they need to make her unlikable.
I mean, who names their child Aster Flores????
Tumblr media
Wait -
WAIT!
Is that a...meet-cute? Between Aster and Ellie? Are they going to fall in love? Is Ellie going to be gay? Are we getting a gay Asian?
Omgomgomgomgomgomg - YES!
I really didn’t want this movie to be generic and it looked as though it was going through that path but 44 seconds into the trailer and this movie is *definitely* anything but.
So now, after seeing this interaction, my prediction is that Ellie and Aster are going to bond just as Ellie’s friendship with The Guy (who I still don’t know the name of) blossoms so she’ll have that big conflict between helping him out with helping Aster fall in love with him and her own feelings for Aster.
If they actually make this a thing then I will be so happy; omg they just look so cute together.
BUT I do hope they don’t make The Guy the main kind of “villain” of the movie because we do need some solid male-female friendships in movies just to show guys and girls can be purely platonic without it turning into something more.
Okay, now I’m really excited!
Tumblr media
Awkwardddddd...
Okay, so what I’m thinking is that Ellie’s love letters are going to help The Guy and Aster go on a date but when they actually go on the date, The Guy realises he has zero in common with Aster and says “hey, Ellie, I think I just liked the idea of dating Aster - but it’s you who she actually really likes and has stuff in common with!”
Or something like that.
(Basically, I’m just trying to save The Guy’s friendship with Ellie as much as possible because he does look pretty sweet).
(Also, another side note, I love the colours of the film; they just look very simple and pleasing to the eyes).
Tumblr media
So I’m thinking that maybe at the end of the movie, Ellie might leave Squahamish to go and explore the world (possibly with The Guy or with Aster, or both!)
Tumblr media
Why do all these blonde girls look just a tad bit *too old* to be in High School?
Not to be rude or anything but it’s just a tad offputting to have Leah Lewis look like an ACTUAL 17-year-old and then have these side characters who look like mums they’ve decided to take their daughter to school to meet all her friends.
Seriously, look at that look on Aster’s face - she looks like her 4 mums are strutting into school, holding her hand, and completely embarrassing her!
But back to the review: Aster seems to be a popular girl (and her friends seem to be stereotypical popular bitches). But it seems as though Aster doesn’t like her popularity so she might just ditch her friends to hang out with Ellie and The Guy, then by the end of the movie they become a friendship trio (with Aster and Ellie dating because duh).
Tumblr media
The trailer does end up revealing that The Guy finds out Ellie likes Aster (as we were all waiting for).
He does look quite betrayed but at the same time, I think he’s also angry at himself for not actually realising Ellie’s feelings before.
This might come after they become good friends so it looks as though The Guy seems (possibly) willing to give up his crush on Aster for the sake of their friendship (I hope).
Tumblr media
Awwwww FRIENDSHIP!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OMG yes, Netflix! I am proud of you!
This little phrase is kind of changing my thoughts on the end of the movie because I don’t think Ellie would actually go and date Aster right after The Guy tried to date her because - BRO CODE.
So, the movie might just focus on the development of their friendship and then Aster might join them to make them a trio, leading up to the possibility of Ellie and Aster getting together in the future.
Is this making sense???
Tumblr media
DisGuSTaNggGg
Well, I don’t think The Guy got the message about bro code...
So this will probably be the height of the conflict where Ellie and The Guy fight over the fact that he knew she likes Aster yet carried on dating her.
Tumblr media
This seems like a really cute moment but also a bit dangerous because, like, that’s a *train*. I don’t know about Squahamish but if I decided to walk across the train tracks in the UK, I would get crushed by a train, or (if I don’t die) get arrested or something.
Tumblr media
Awwwwww he’s a JOCK!
Jock-nerd friendship goals omg that’s too cute.
Netflix do not mess up this friendship! They are too pure!
So overall I am super excited to watch the movie for the male-female friendship and the lesbian love story.
My initial reaction, as you read above, was that it was just going to be a generic heterosexual love story between this nerdy Asian girl and this white jock.
HOWEVER (and this is a big however), when I watched the rest of the trailer, the story became anything but generic. The story seems complex, interesting, and really fitting to the lives of teenagers now.
So I urge you all to watch THE HALF OF IT on the 1st May 2020 on Netflix (and I’ll make a reaction post to the movie).
But as for now, keep binging - bye!
