- What app is this for again?
- It's this new hookup app my company is launching. We've got Grindr. We've got Tinder. This is Zellweger. It's for gay guys who just want to talk about actresses, then go to bed.
- Oh, I'd use that.

Rookie-Critic's Top 25 Films of 2022:
#19: Bros (dir. Nicholas Stoller)
Rom-com's are not generally my forte, and comedy films in general tend to be very hit or miss for me, but there's something about the Apatow-ian sense of humor in director Nicholas Stoller's work that just ticks all the right boxes for me. Forgetting Sarah Marshall is, to me, one of the greatest of all time, and honestly, Bros falls right up there with it. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, it just takes all of the things that work in a good rom-com and brings it to an audience that Hollywood hardly ever doesn't trauma-lock in film. Although there is something to be said about the fact that this film does center two white men, the positivity and non-tragic LGBTQIA+ representation Bros brings to screen while maintaining a measure of quality that rivals the greatest rom-coms of all time is a gigantic step in the right direction for mainstream queer film. An absolute triumph.

Regular and Recurring LGBTQIA+ Characters in series on TV & Streaming Video
These are characters who have first appeared or been revealed as LGBTQIA+ during the 2022/23 season, or whom I’ve recently learned about or whom I hadn’t mentioned in previous posts of this type (that is, on my old blog). Needless to say, this list is also highly arbitrary and incomplete.
Netflix
Uncoupled
Michael Lawson (portrayed by Neil Patrick Harris)
Stanley James (portrayed by Brooks Ashmanskas)
Billy Burns (portrayed by Emerson Brooks)
Colin McKenna (portrayed by Tuc Watkins)
Jack (portrayed by André De Shields)
Jonathan #1 (portrayed by Colin Hanlon)
Jonathan #2 (portrayed by Jai Rodriguez)
Tyler Hawkins (portrayed by Nic Rouleau)
Continuing the tradition from my old blog (which has been unceremoniously deleted by tumblr without much of an explanation why) I’m doing daily posts during June to celebrate LGBTQIA+ pride by showcasing openly LGBTQIA+ celebrities and various content about or created by LGBTQIA+ people such as music videos, characters on TV shows, movie trailers, …

Bros (2022, dir. Nicholas Stoller) - review by Rookie-Critic
Bros absolutely blew me away. It's a funny, heartwarming, Apatow-ian (he produced the film) comedy that brings massive amounts of representation and feel good vibes to the screen. It showcases everything that works about a romantic comedy and distills it into its purest form, taking the tropes and rolling with them without falling prey to the pitfalls of them. It feels comfortable and easy, the way a good rom-com should, while still being unapologetically different and itself. Not to mention that it's just good to see Billy Eichner finally get to shine in a starring role, and he really does. His one-liners are gut-bustingly hilarious, his incredulous looks are a riot, but even outside of the film and Eichner's humor, the dramatic acting is phenomenal. Both Eichner and Luke Macfarlane have incredible chemistry and dramatic acting chops, and when this sometimes absurdly hilarious film turns to serious on a dime, it doesn't feel unnatural. The ebb and flow of humor and more grounded, somber moments is supremely artful, and I would expect no less from Judd Apatow protégé Nicholas Stoller, who directed the film and co-wrote its screenplay with Eichner. Stoller already has one all-time classic comedy under his belt with 2008's Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and I think, with Eichner's help, he's just added his second with Bros. Now, as a white, cisgendered, straight man, I am not at all the demographic that this film is meant for, and I don't intend to speak for that demographic at all, but for this white-cis-het male, Bros was an absolute win.
Score: 10/10
