was thinking about how cats are said to be able to see spirits so like

Julie is walking down the street and finds a box of abandoned kittens or rescues them from a burlap sack in a creek or whatever way you so please, but Julie comes home one day with three traumatised, hungry baby kittens

of course Ray lets her keep them so she and Carlos spend the evening warming them up and getting them to drink while Ray goes out to get toys and beds and litter boxes

Luke, Alex, and Reggie poof in to check on Julie and fall in love with the kittens immediately

Reggie was allergic to cats and wanted one so bad as a kid and is delighted to find that ghosts can't have allergies

but the cats also take a liking to the boys, each choosing one as their favorite (cause cats always have a favorite human)

one is really shy and doesn't chatter much but loves to play; his fur is grey, the tip of his tail and the paws white, as well as the center of his face and the fur around his left eye, and he instantly decides the best place to be is Alex's lap (little pink nose! tiny pink toe beans! Alex has crossed over into heaven)

the black, brown and tan calico tabby walks head-first into the leg of a chair and flops on her side, letting Reggie scoop her up and she licks his thumb with her lil pink tongue and Reggie almost cries

the loudest one of them all, an all-black male with one blue and one green eye and the resolve of a brick wall won't stop mewling until Luke is scratching his head

all three love Julie so much and when the ghosts are busy or when she comes home from school they all waddle over to say hello and cuddle against her ankles

Julie teases the ghost boys into oblivion until they confide their middle names to her, and she names the cats after their favorite human. Alex's kitten is named James, Luke's is named Andrew (or Andy), and Reggie's is named Michelle (a femme version of his middle name, and he also really loved Full House) (middle name headcanon from this post by @trevor-wilson-covington)

Ray was worried the kittens would get into mischeif while everyone was away at work/school but after Julie finally tells him about the band and how much the cats love the boys, it's a win-win situation for all

the boys unofficially get household chores ("everyone has to pull their own weight!" Ray says with the smile of a man who's just adopted three dead teenagers in need of a good father figure)

they take care of the cats while everyone else is gone, feeding them twice a day and cleaning out the litter box

they get collars for the cats to match their ghost's fave colors, and from that point on the cats are (unofficially) officially The Boy's Cats; a pink collar for James, a red collar for Michelle and a blue one for Andy

they won't mention it but the cats help ground the ghosts a little more, they have typical teenage household responsibilities again and a sort-of schedule that makes the afterlife a little more manageable and normal (espessially for Alex)

it's not an uncommon sight in the Molina household to see floating kittens as the boys tidy up, dance to music (the google home can hear them?? they get all music on command?? no explanation but yes) or lounge around; kittens sleeping in the pockets of invisible hoodies, perched on non-existent shoulders or dozing on laps

as a result the cats are incredibly spoiled but thats the way the Molinas do

to outside eyes the cats will sometimes wander around the house aimlessly, but really they are just following their ghost like a little duckling while they do little chores

sometimes the boys will crowd together, tripping over each other's feet as they shuffle around the house just to see the kittens march across the hardwood floors on unsteady feetsies, rolly polly pell mell tumble bumble

Julie will never mention it but it kills her everytime she sees Luke being soft with his fur baby it's just too much for her heart to handle. cute boy talk sweet to kitty make heart go brrr

So @jatp-spinsb wrote me this lovely Halloween-ish ficlet about The Caleb/Ray/Reggie ABO AU’s Reggie’s love of Halloween, and I love it so much. And it unlocked so many headcanons I thought it deserved its own post.

-So, Reggie loves Halloween. Like, loves it. It was the only holiday growing up that wasn’t mired in drama and fights, because it wasn’t focused so much on Being The Perfect Family. Especially once his parents decided he was old enough and just let him roam the streets alone with his friends. (Which was... way younger than most parents would.)

-He loves the pumpkins, and the black cats, and the ghosts (both cute and spooky) and just the entire vibes. He loves scary movies, especially now that he can curl up against Ray or Caleb and hide his face against them when it gets very scary. (Ray jumps just as much as Reggie. Caleb pretty much never jumps, and will mutter insults about how stupid the protagonists are under his breath.)

-October first, Reggie breaks out the puppy eyes. Ray and Caleb negotiate him down to adding a little bit of Halloween decor every week, and not going Full Spoopy all at once. They start with some Tasteful Gourds. Maybe a nice wreath for the door.

-Yes, the tiny pumpkins start popping up all over the house.

-Like the ficlet said, Caleb is Very Pleased when he realises how he can best spoil Reggie. Even if he is a little like: I wanted to buy him a rolex, but I guess a *checks amazon* zombie lawn flamingo will have to do. One day, he will get Reggie interested in the finer things in life.

-Imagine Ray and Caleb taking Reggie to a real pumpkin patch and he just... nearly vibrates out of his skin. They get two nice big pumpkins for carving, some cute small ones to dot around the porch, a hot slice of apple pie and some Pumpkin Spice Lattes and apple cider. Ray takes his camera and just takes... so many pictures. Yes Caleb’s phone screen is now a slideshow of Ray and Reggie at the pumpkin patch.

-When Reggie realises this is the kind of neighbourhood that does trick or treating, he is so excited. He doesn’t even feel bad for using his credit card to buy a ton of candy so they can be the House That Gives Out Full Sizes Candy Bars. He also gets some cute little Halloween themed trinkets and stuff like erasers, cool pens, yo-yos and fake spiders, because he remembers his childhood best friend having to give away half his candy at the end of the night because of his peanut allergies.

-Ray and Caleb agree to dress up, even though they’re staying home and handing out candy. Caleb only has an afternoon show once he learns that Halloween is a Big Deal for Reggie.

-They ask Reggie what he wants to be, and he asks them if it’s okay if it’s a surprise. Which, of course. So they all agree to surprise each other with their costumes. Ray starts getting suspicious when Caleb stops shaving a few days before Halloween, because he knows the man likes to be clean-shaven. (Caleb is a little shit and is like: I have no idea what you’re talking about.)

-Ray decides to dress up as Han Solo because 1) he’s always wanted to 2) to see Reggie go all flushed. Which he does.

-Reggie comes out and he’s dressed as a Sexy Cat. Except he added some tights and fuzzy leg and arm warmers as well, because he wants to be a sexy cat that is also warm and child-friendly enough to hand out candy. “Get it?” he says, sidling up to Caleb. Caleb of course is highly amused his kitten is now an actual kitten. (And he has Plans for when the trick or treating part of the evening ends.)

-Then Caleb disappears into the bedroom. And when he comes out, Ray is half-annoyed, half-turned on. Because Caleb is wearing one of his flannels. And his jeans. And some big boots. And a beanie that Ray is also pretty sure belongs to him. Listen, he loves it when Reggie wears his clothes, but seeing his husband in them is new and exciting and... wow.

-“Oh my god, you’re a sexy lumberjack!” Reggie shouts, beaming.

“I was just going for ‘lumberjack’, but alright, kitten,” Caleb says, looking smug.

-Yes there are Many Sexy Times once the trick or treating if over.

-Reggie manages to keep the Halloween decor up until almost Thanksgiving. After that he dutifully packs it away. Except for the Decorative Gourds, those get to stay until Christmas.

-He has plans to spray paint them white in an attempt to persuade Ray that totally counts as Christmas decor.

-Reggie keeps the cat ears around, though. Just in case.

i know that reblog wasn't jatp related but reggie would absolutely name a cat concrete (maybe from the rayreggiecaleb au when they "foster" more cats) (foster of course meaning the time it takes to soften caleb/how long caleb takes to admit he already considers the cats theirs [he obviously knew it within days but he's still got a reputation to uphold and besides the cats need to know he's in charge. well reggie's sort of in charge but he's clueless about that])

Oh my god Concrete is 100% one of the cat's names. I was wondering what to name the two kittens they keep. It's Concrete and Spork.

Ray probably has the math down to a science like: Okay, if we foster any animal more than two months Reggie and Caleb will get too attached and it takes another 6 to 10 days for Caleb to ADMIT he's gotten too attached, so the optimal use of puppy eyes would be next Thursday.

With the fish it wasn't even four weeks, Caleb was just like: we did not put that much effort in creating the perfect fish tank for some other family to come and take it all away, Ray. Do you have any idea how much research I did on nitrogen levels? No it has nothing to do with the fact that Reggie named the shiny one Caleb Junior.

Hello my love!!

🌝 Who is one character you haven’t yet written for that you would like to?

Ray probably. He appeared in my Jatp+Kittens fic but only really quickly, and I really want to write more about him. I know I'm going to in the [redacted] sequel, but it's gonna take a while until I'll get to it 😔

🧠 What’s an idea you have that you can’t quite call a WIP yet?

I have not one, but at least three ideas. Willie works at Lush AU, Willie is the first person Alex kissed, and Willie takes his dog to feed the ducks in the park. All three are only thoughts vibing in my mind, the only idea that has a single note in my ideas doc is the kiss one. One day.

😈 Is there anything you enjoy doing that you think your readers hate?

Omg I write so much in italics I'm sure it's so annoying. Also my sentences would be so long if it weren't for you always splitting them when you beta (thank u ily)

💍- your most underrated story

For JATP that would definitely be The Last Standing which is a character piece about how Bobby turns into Trevor after he loses his dreams and friends all in one night.

It was the first story I started to write and the second I posted (Oct 10, a year and a bit ago!) and was therefore way ahead of the Bobby love. Back then, most people still seemed to hate him so there wasn't much interest and later, the fanon!Bobby took over and there still wasn't much interest in Trevor (or the in-between) so it's just very niche? At the same time, I'm really proud of it and it means a lot to me so ... yeah, I wish it was a bit more popular. Besides, I'm super proud of all my chapter titles and I never have chapter titles!

👁- series or oneshots?

I always hope to do oneshots and then they often don't stop there and become multi-chapters or series. Idk, there's something to be said for both of them and it depends on the story?

💻- three works of yours that are must reads

Since I already mentioned The Last Standing (which would otherwise have been on this list):

Call For a Date, (Don’t) Fall in Love

I'm just really, really happy with it. Every scene works and the Chaos Curve boys are a loving, messy delight and the Willex is all flustery and sweet and so, yeah, I'm glad people wanted me to actually write the silly fake boyfriend agency fic. And with 15k it's the perfect length when you want something sweet that's a bit longer than a ficlet/One Shot but also not a whole multi-chapter thing :D

Take Me Through the Storm

While the fake boyfriend story is all silly and fun, this one's my angsty word porn (that isn't actually porn though has a well deserved mature rating) and I just love the structure and the metaphors and the emotion. There's a storm in Alex's head when he returns from his family and Willie is the only one that can soothe him and help him through it.

Dear Dave

Not JATP but from my previous main fandom, Metal Gear Solid, this is a story that I'm still immensely proud of. I might change or add some stuff now but since there's a physical copy of this story, where Hal starts writing first emails and then a journal addressed to his dead partner Dave, that's not an option. I poured a lot of love and grief into this story, had fun with the fake tears and coffee stains, had cramps in my hand from writing, pressed flowers for it, and cried when people, who've actually gone through losing someone this important, told me they found it ringing true.

💭- any ideas for a possible wip?

Okay, so, the phrasing of this question is a bit weird ... like, how can a work in progress, which suggests that it exists and is being worked on (more or less), be hypothetical as in 'possibly might exist at some point in the future'??

But if we redefine this as 'any ideas for a possible writing project in the future' then I'll go with kitten!Alex. Because I still want to write that just because it's ridiculous and sweet and fluffy with a little bit of angst for seasoning and we all deserve Willie cuddling with kitten!Alex!

💕- opinion on AUs?

I LOVE them! There's just so much fun in finding the connections, to explore these characters in different settings and still make them recognisable, to integrate little nods to canon and all that. It's the purest form of 'what if' and I adore it. Of course there's some AU settings that I enjoy more than others but as a concept? A+++

🎈- what’s a spoiler for a wip or series?

I'm not really really writing anything atm but I hope to get back to my merman fairytale AU soonish. It'll incorporate the HC Anderson bit of Willie's feet hurting whenever he walks so there'll be a scene of Willie zooming around a large gallery in the castle in a wheelchair and later a dance scene where he stands on Alex's feet!
