#jess and rory in new york au

Text
sometimes i’m glad jess got the hell out of stars hollow cause otherwise, i imagine he’d end up a lot like dean, juggling multiple jobs and struggling to make time for rory. i just wish they’d had a smoother break than whatever implosion they contrived to send jess to california. i mean, rory was headed to europe for the summer anyway. jess could’ve gone to california for the summer, worked things out with his dad, and then moved to new york which is closer to yale than stars hollow anyway. whatever. i’m just torturing myself at this point.

A List Of My Favorite Gilmore Girls AU's, Conspiracy Theories and Ridiculous Headcanons
There are definitely more... as I think of them I'll keep adding to it. But these are the biggies and some of my favorites. 13. Jess eventually gains custody of Doula and she avoids ending up in the cult, and she changes her name to something way less stupid too. 12 Jess and Lane have a fling as an act of rebellion to piss off Mrs. Kim (but I really can't see any long term compatability here) and because pissing off one Stars Hollow mom just wasn’t enough for Jess 11. There is an alternate universe where Jess ends up enrolled at Chilton because his mother conned some rich fucker into marrying her and he used his money and influence to bribe Headmaster Charleston into letting him in. I feel like Luke is sitting on a lot of money but he would never have enough to pull to make it happen. 10. Rory was actually a hero for sleeping with Dean and breaking up Dean's marriage so Lindsey could escape 9 Luke, Jess, and/ or Rory finally snap one day after they can't take any more bullshit and go on a rampage around Stars Hollow slaughtering the many people who have wronged them, I call it the Blood In The Hollow triology. 8. Taylor Doose is pocketing all the money made from the festivals in Stars Hollow and he has no intention of fixing The Bridge or putting that money towards other charitable causes 7.In season 4 when Jess is living in New York and Luke insinuates Jess is a drug dealer he's right #HeyTawd 6. Luke serves cheap ordinary supermarket coffee (oh wait, that one is actually TRUE, Mr. Folgers can. I've seen you). 5. There's a vortex/black hole in California sucking in the unsuspecting men of Stars Hollow (Dave Rygalski. Jess. Max. Even Christopher, apparently ) called the Male Gilmore Girls Character California Wormhole, it swallowed Dave Rygalksi permanently because It loved him so much, but it spit everyone else back out eventually 4. Jess erased Shane after the Dance Marathon and threw her body in the lake and the swan that beaked him was a reincarnation of Shane out for revenge 3. Jess' novels become unexpected worldwide best sellers, turned into movies, turned him into a household name, earned him legions of fans and book groupies, making him a millionaire, causing our reluctant and modest blorbo to face the pressures of fame, press, wealth and attention 2. During the Truncheon years and beyond Jess Mariano blossoms sexually and becomes a raging manwhore the likes of which Philadelphia has never seen, sometimes I make him a college student (sometimes I don't), he has a Myspace page that the girlies flock to and a very busy flip phone and two roommates who never get any sleep 1. Lorelai and Dean are having a torrid love affair, and I call it The Dala (The Dean and Lorelai Affair) I will die on this hill, this is my Death Hill

if a rory meets jess in s1 AU happened i do imagine it would’ve been during the Bangles concert ep. yes solely bc of the fact that they were in new york. not at the concert though at the party but he wouldnt be in the party he’d be out in the hallway bc he got bored and it’s quieter out there for reading (intentional parallel to rory reading during the house party) lorelai would interrogate him about whether he’d seen the girls and he’d say maybe :| and yk what do you MEAN maybe and he says maybe i did or didnt :| bc hes annoying she gives him 5 dollars and he says yeah they’re in there. theyre really Loud :| and well rory thinks he’s kinda funny (paris calls him some caulfield wannabe or something or the other) and she can’t contain the urge to ask him abt what he’s reading maybe it’s didion or something (how could a hemingway-loving jess not love a hemingway-loving didion?) and yk rory can be very talkative when her special interests are involved etc etc whatever you see the vision. a fleeting conversation between strangers that doesn’t matter until it does.

daisy jones and the six makes me wanna write a whole au about gilmore girls in the 70s where lane & the band (zach died in a car crash idc he does not belong in this universe) goes on a tour around the us playing some gigs thinking they’re gonna become the biggest band in the world and ending up in new york and meets rory gilmore & jess mariano, two nerds that are in their early 20s who grow up in the city and they’re already married (“they got married with paper rings last summer” “oh, that’s such a bullshit, dave” “no, it’s true. lane told me that rory told her that jess proposed that way”) and!!! lots of dave x lane moments!!! jess and rory in the van living their best life!!!!

3 sentence au
Rory doesn’t even bother with a pro/con list.
There are a thousand reasons why Rory shouldn’t allow Jess to shove her boxes of books and journals and sweaters into the backseat of his battered old car, a thousand reasons more why she shouldn’t prop her bare feet on his dashboard while they sing along to a Belle and Sebastian song, but she can’t remember a single one of them when Jess shoots her that crooked grin, his fingers thumping along on the steering wheel; she’s not thinking of Dean, driving silently back to Stars Hollow; she’s not thinking of Lorelai, leaving a litany of missed calls and voicemails that she won’t answer until they’re already in the city, and Rory’s always been the good girl, the sensible one, but not this time—right now Rory's thinking only of herself, and what she wants:
Jess, and New York City.
And the thought of Yale is always there, hovering in the back of her mind, but in the here and now, there’s Jess’s lined yellow notepads of hurried, cramped writing strewn across their coffee table, and her own journals with their deeply-creased covers neatly stacked on the windowsill, and maybe they’ll never work out, maybe they’ll only have this one summer, but it’s a summer that she’ll always remember: This cramped one-bedroom apartment with an air mattress on the floor and no hot water; a summer of afternoon sunlight drifting across the tattered sleeves of Jess’s favorite records; a summer of ink-stained fingers and a dog-eared Dickens edition and leftover Chinese takeout, a summer of kisses, of Jess’s warm hands slung around her hips and Jess’s breath against the back of her neck, and it’s all hers, something Rory wanted and took just for herself, and that means she’ll always, always keep it—
Rory runs away from home, and finds herself.

literati vibes all over it!!!!!!!! rory working as a journalist for the new york times and jess as spiderman but ofc they haven’t seen each other in years until she covers an article about mitchum huntzberger and jess figures that something is really off with the mayor of nyc and his son logan haha bye
TWO ASKS FROM MY BESTIE???? BLESSED
No but PLEASE. What a great AU I love it. I will never be able to play Spiderman again without thinking I'm Jess and Im obsessed with that.
Also just Rory getting herself into dangerous situations constantly because she needs to get the story and she knows Jess will be there if it gets bad. Ugh. I love them.
Mitchum makes so much sense as Norman too omg

Hi I’m back! I was wondering if you had any Captain Snowing (Killian/David/Snow) and Swanfire (Emma/Neal) headcanons made yet? Any thoughts on how it would all go down with that relationship?
I would find it kinda hilarious when Killian finds out he is related to the bloody crocodile aka Rumpelstiltskin 😂 David and Snow would have to hold them down, just calm him down at the loft cause Killian was just having a simple conversation with Grumpy while grabbing groceries as he comes home to find out that information by his spouses. Especially since he was hesitant about Emma, Henry and possibly Alice too going with Rumple to find his son, fearing for the lives of his children/grandson, and also curious to Bae actually being here in their world. Seeing how he regrets how that ended for them.
Also he would be surprisingly trilled to see that Bae/Neal is alive and hell. I believe Killian would go racing to New York to protect his children and make sure Rumple doesn’t do anything harshly to harm anyone. David has to call Emma telling her that her Papa is on their way. Once Killian arrives in New York and finally finds them he is in shock to find Bae who is a adult now and completely understanding the situation at hand to the best of his abilities. It hurts a lot of everyone’s side of the story but it is dealt with soon. Killian would definitely seeing Neal as family more than ever, not blaming Emma or him too much for their actions since they were young.
Over the years, Neal and Killian grow closer together with their father-son relationship. Alice possibly becoming that annoying little sister than Neal never had and Emma being embarrassed about it especially after coming home from dates to Alice wanting to hear all about it! Snow is trilled about it and a little curious about everything since he wants to be the cool mom and ask about the dates and such.
David is very overprotective of his daughters and always looking out for her no matter what happens so it takes some time for him to grow close to Neal but they do ofc! (which is probably why Neal tries to go to Killian first before proposing the idea to David about marriage to Emma 😂 and Killian watches Neal ask David for his blissing trying not to laugh at his husband and future son in law’s interaction)
What do you think? I just had this idea bouncing in my head for a while and i have so many other ones lol
This would be funny and awkward because technically Swanfire would be step-siblings in this universe. And normally, I’d say it wouldn’t work but in case, they obviously met prior to knowing who they were and their connections. I also think it works as Neal definitely views Killian as a father figure but he’s not technically his dad?
Honestly as much as Killian loves Neal, I see it going a little like Gilmore Girls (idk if you watch) where Luke grills Jess about treating Rory right and Jess is like “ you know you’re my guardian and not hers, right???” (Adding video for reference)
I’d actually make this an AU of my “Every Little Thing” verse where Killian had Alice right before falling in love with Snowing, then both she and baby Emma go through the wardrobe only to be separated. (I think Alice is like 3-4 years older in this verse) She would totally be the obnoxious big sister that wants to pick out what Emma wears. And Snow encourages it. (She lives vicariously through them as she always wanted an older sister).
I see David as totally making Neal squirm and think he’ll say no. And then burst out laughing.
I’d also work in Baby Snowing into this mix somehow (I always name him Ben is universes where Nealfire is alive). He’d be the only sane one in this family lol.
In this version of reality, I think Henry would like Hook 1.0, because he’s not an asshole trying to burn down the city. He’d be the cool pirate grandfather telling stories of a life at sea (and stories about his dad). Add in Regina as she and Snow are very close. She’d roll her eyes and tease the hell out of all of them, but also find joy in having a family this big and crazy.
Forget when Tallie (Swanfire’s daughter) is born. That little girl will be the most beloved in all the realms.
Now, I want all of this. It’s be a crazy, hectic life for all of them. In this universe. Emma being overwhelmed but also loving all the family who clearly care about her and her well-being. Thank you for giving me all these feels!

anonymous asked: hi! i dont know if this has been asked before but i recently saw ur au recommendations for post-series aus and was wondering abt whether u have any recommendations for chilton-yale era?
Sure! I know some chilton-yale AU fics, though I haven't been able to read all of them (but the summaries sound good):
this is all addition by subtraction - Chilton AU where Rory meets Jess at Chilton in season 1.
where soul meets body - this is actually a Sense8 AU where Rory and Jess meet each other by being "connected", though it does have Chilton as one of the surroundings and Paris is a supporting character.
this is just how we were taught to love - another Chilton AU where the events of season 1 are altered once Rory meets Jess at Chilton.
Starstuck - this isn't a 'direct' Yale AU but it does take place in season 4 and it's a Groundhog's Day AU where the events of Nag Hammadi keep happening to Rory and Jess, and they're forced to team up in order to figure out how to break out of the time loop.
Hidden Maps - again, not a direct Yale AU but it's a Serendipity AU where Rory and Jess have a faithful meeting in New York in season 3 instead of Jess coming to Stars Hollow, and the fic follows them individually throughout season 4. Very much worth a read.
Sundays at Luke's - this fic takes place in season 5 where Rory decides to fake date Jess in order to get her grandmother off of her back when it comes to her matchmaking. This fic takes liberty with a lot of the events prior to season 5, but it's incredible and very much recommended.
distilla truant - a Chilton AU where Jess is a student when Rory comes in during her sophomore year. This is still ongoing but is regularly updated and the writing is exquisite.
Lux et Veritas - a Yale AU where Jess is slightly older than Rory and also a TA. This AU deviates from some canon facts but is really well-written.
Attitude Adjustments - this is a Chilton AU where Jess and Rory's lives are essentially swapped, Rory is the hooligan while Jess is the more behaved teenager.
The Kids are Alright - a Chilton AU where Paris and Jess become step-siblings and Jess attends Chilton. This fic is part of a series that also covers Paris, Jess and Rory's years in Yale.
Four Letter Words And How We Use Them - this is an older unfinished Chilton AU where I believe that Rory and Jess start fake-dating.
iron hearts all turn to rust - this is an AU fic that goes back and forth between several years and does take place a bit at Yale, though again, not a direct Yale AU.
These are all that I can think of for now, hope this list helps!

What WIPs are you (not) working on? I know about the "Blue Skies" sequel, but what about the other ones???
omg okay okay so one of them is an au where after having rory, lorelai agreed to marry chris, so rory is raised in hartford high society. she and jess have never met so it'll be what happens when they meet at 21 and it's gonna be SO fun if it ever gets written omg. I won't share all the details because some things need to be a surprise but they're going to date in secret for a while there it's going to be. fantastic
another one is a dawson's creek style au where dean jess and rory are all best friends, like jess and dean were close and dean and rory were close (dean's family moved to stars hollow when he was very young and liz took jess to new york after several years but he and dean stayed in touch) and basically jess and rory fall for each other and all hell breaks loose ajsjfhsjd. like they start off very antagonistic but after a couple years pacey style jess falls for her and she falls for him <33 again if it ever gets written it's gonna be so dramatic. god. truly a teen drama
the last one is one that I thought up like two days ago and it was SUPPOSED to be a practice fic so I could warm up with my writing again and try to let myself have a not great first draft (because I struggle a lot with that) but it's already kind of taken over me ajsjdf. but basically because I have no sense of originality it's a the office/jim and pam au <3 loosely inspired by a bullet point au I don't really have a plan for this one either I want to just see where it takes me but I'll loosely follow at least season 1-3 jim and pam but with jess and rory, with new dialogue and stuff but yk.
and yet... with all four I am just sitting switching between docs and slowly losing my mind <33

Whenever you mention any idea that you have for an AU I'm all 👀👀 but I won't ask for this new one since I don't want to seem like I wanna put more pressure on you than you already seem to be putting on yourself
NO ACTUALLY IM KIND OF DOWN TO SAY just bc im so curious as to whether or not people would be interested in it. the basic premise is: lorelai gives rory up for adoption instead of keeping her because she thinks it’s ultimately what’s best for her kid, but rory actually ends up having a worse life and bounces around from foster home to foster home, wherein she encounters jess. they end up becoming friends, and rory is still very much academically inclined bc she thinks college is probably the best way to get herself into a better situation, and there’d be lots of literati content in school libraries and in various locations around new york. meanwhile lor is absolutely full of regret and determined to track down her daughter, and would probably enlist luke’s help or something. there are a lot of kinks i need to work out with it but. i’m kind of obsessed if I do say so myself

(tried to hit all different crossovers but it was a challenge lmao)
1. Kirsty and Richie have a standing date that every week (maybe it was Fridays before Friday Night Dinners?) they go for dinner somewhere outside of Stars Hollow so that they can just hang out and talk and catch up without their family or anyone in town overhearing?  They keep it up all the way through Chilton and Yale and even as adults
2. this is totally up to you but maybe!! when Emily and Rory go to Europe after season 4, Richie gets invited on a trip with Sophie and the LDB boys?
3. Willow and Richie climb up to each other’s rooms to talk on a regular basis!  Also I like to imagine that their windows face each other so they can do the You Belong With Me Music Video talking through the window thing lmao
4. Anytime that Christopher shows up, Richie stays with Charles instead — he has his own room (iirc?) but usually he and Charles will just have a sleepover in the poolhouse until he’s gone!  And when Emily and Richard are too much to deal with, Charles stays with Richie!
5. Instead of Brittany, Faith is the one to notice that Abbie is the only person who didn't sing in Duet Week
6. Despite not having any idea what she's talking about, Richie is always happy to listen to Paige ramble about fashion and to get dragged along when she goes shopping
7. Whenever Jess and Rory get too pretentious about books, Char and Grace will get into intense arguments over trashy novels just to get them to stop — both are capable of being just as pretentious but they get bored of those arguments sometimes
8. Grace is the one to encourage Cecilia to show her songs to Hep Alien
9. Richie spends the summer after s2 in New York with Blythe!  In a non-Charles-And-Kaito AU, this could be the start of a romance too!
10. While she’s his sister and he loves her, Charles also holds a lot of resentment towards how blatantly their parents favour Regina
Send me a 👋 and I’ll give you a random crossover headcanon
