It's Healthier to Move On
Summary: Eikichi was told over and over again to move on from Tae's death from MJ. And he tried, he really did, even if inside he felt horrible that Tae was the only one that Saga left behind.
He is 47 and can't forget her. And one night in MJ's bar he meets someone named Kotaro Tatsumi, who convinces him to hire his idols to advertise his onions. And he is faced with Tae Yamada, the mindless zombie.
He just can't understand....Why did MJ tell him to move on when he enabled Kotaro's grief??? Why couldn't he have been the one to revive Tae?
Ships: slight Kotasaku, slight Tae/Eikichi, but mostly familial bonds Jofuku & Eikichi and Jofuku & Kotaro and Jofuku & Tae.
Notes: I wanted to write this one ever since the Gaiden finished, and ever since I finished my last fic, I immediately started writing this one-shot about how Eikichi was told to move on by Jofuku but Kotaro likely wasn't. What changed??? Was Kotaro just THAT crazy??? Or did Jofuku just break from the grief? I really wanted to explore that.

jigokuraku spoilers
the mirror between gabimaru and rien really doesn't become apparent until near the end of the series but when it hits you...
both of these characters are driven by the same core motivation—to be reunited with their loved one. rien trying to bring jofuku back from the dead, gabimaru fighting to come back from a kind of social death (through criminalization) to return to yui (the island can even be read as a kind of purgatory that he must traverse to return to the world of the living). love is something that transforms them both—gabi from a hollow vessel to a person with something to protect; in contrast, rien in losing her love, but still trying to revive it, shuts off everyone around her.
to be sure, they're both willing to go to extreme lengths to achieve their goal. on many occasions gabi reverts to his "hollow" way of being, willing to kill others and even to sacrifice himself to survive/win. it's easy to see how his sympathies could, for a moment, align with rien, who is an amplification of that ruthlessness to the magnitude of millions of people. what keeps him from going down rien's path are the connections he comes to accept (as opposed rien's pushing away and grinding down)—yui, of course, and importantly sagiri, the set of individuals who are willing to see his humanity and put their faith in him and his ability to change.
i see a lot of these little echoes across the different pairings that come into conflict over the course of the story.
mudan, who modified humans to be their playthings but thanked the group for freeing them of their thousand-year purgatory; senta, who was always discomfited by what the yamada-asaemon did with human life and found a sense of relief in death, freed to imagine and desire whatever he wanted, both of them unbound from obligation.
jufa and taofa facing off against the aza brothers in a pair, lovers against siblings, halves of a whole, with one half taking upon themselves to relentlessly protect the more vulnerable half, regardless of how much they have to take from other people or sacrifice themselves for the other's safety.
gantetsusai imagining that taofa (and the rest of the tensen) must be like him, someone who desires the thrill of battle, only to have her shoot him down ("it's not fun at all")—and boy, does he come around to her point of view in the end.
much of zhujin's driving force being to please their family, haunted by their own sense of inadequacy; their efforts to please everyone ironically bringing zhujin into confrontation with shion and nurugai, who both feel they failed their respective families, by failing to protect one of them (tenza) or for bringing genocide to her home.
even shijia, gabimaru, and sagiri's fight (with zhujin in the background) contends with these themes of rejection/acceptance; after all, shijia was raised in the same way gabimaru was (which is also similar to the way rien's children were raised). as demonstrated during the battle though, shijia was fighting alone.
guifa, sagiri, and mei's conversation is also important to me. of course, these three are the point of connection, the first spark of the idea that both parties don't have to keep taking from one another. i also see these characters as having to do with truth, either knowing and revealing it (as guifa or mei) or uncovering it (as sagiri—not only as to the mysteries of the island but her efforts to uncover what lies in people's hearts/"the sword reflects the truth"). it's fitting that guifa and mei get featured in the epilogue, which came from sagiri's pov before the time jump.
shugen, gabimaru, and rien are interesting as well. circling back to the initial point—is the fact that shugen did not have a "love" the reason he could deal the final blow? is he the "wicked" who won them the battle?
in the end, it's gabimaru's hesitation that saves everyone. he identified himself in rien and she did the same. she also hesitates to kill him, and instead asks the question that saves them. it's such a lovely conclusion. the thing that deters mutual destruction is identifying yourself in the enemy. people don't have to choose cruelty and mutual destruction with their last breath. not being able to swing the sword can be the thing that saves us.

I don’t mean to spread my propaganda but from your interests and your critiques of JJK I think that you would like Hell’s Paradise!
I personally feel that it handled its themes of love, power, and loneliness much better! It’s unfortunate that it’s anime couldn’t convey that :,/
I have actually read Hell's Paradise! Although it has probably been a year or so since I reread it and I only skimmed a bit through the anime to see some of my favourite scenes. Unfortunately, they didn't quite manage to capture the natural horror of the island and the grotesqueness of the soshin and monshin. They ended up looking more goofy than intimidating. I was also a bit disappointed by the voice actor for the yang form of the Tensen. He sounded too much like just some dude. I like the opening though and otherwise the voice actors seemed well chosen.
It does have some themes similar to jjk, although I think it addresses it from a different angle and bases it on other philosophical and mythical backgrounds. Like for example love seems to be a lot more focused on the romantic aspect of it in Jigokuraku, whereas in jjk it is more platonic and about family and found relationships. I wouldn't say one is necessarily better than the other. Jigokuraku is just a bit more...concise? JJK lingers longer on certain side stories, whereas Jigokuraku has a very straight forward plot progression with not that much ambiguity about what is about to happen. It's shorter too, so that contributes to it. Both have things I like very much and some aspects one does better than the other.
I think the stories are most similar in regards to Rien (my fave, who would've thought) and Kenjaku. They are both a similar age, want to optimize their respective magic system and energy source for the sake of a person they care about and use dubious science and human experimentation for that sake, including abusing their "kids". Both are genderqueer in some way and I think the obsessive feelings they have for Jofuku/Tengen are also quite similar. Except in case of Kenjaku you also have the aspect of curiosity and entertainment thrown in with it. I like both of them though, can't say I prefer one over the other, they just highlight different things. Except I think we get to know Kenjaku more as a person than Rien. In his case all the emotional reasons for his crimes get dumped on us at the end and before that he mostly stays distant and calculating.
For any deeper analysis of the two series I'd have to reread Jigokuraku again 😅

Hells Paradise Characters : 35+ Characters Ranked And Skills Explained
Tumblr media
This is gonna be my first answer in quite some time, so I’ll list the top 30 strongest instead of the regular old ten. I will also be refraining from adding manga panels, lest the answer becomes far too long. Just brief descriptions would do. Please note that Banko-powered Zhu Jin will be excluded since it can’t be scaled one way or another. Below Is All informations About Hell's Paradise Characters Hells Paradise Characters Who is The Main Characters Of Hell's Paradise ? The Main Character Of Hell's Paradise is Gabimaru Gabimaru is a ninja on death row with one chance to see his wife again — by finding the elixir of immortality on a supernatural island and delivering it to the shogun. Standing in his way are his fellow convicts and the fearsome beasts that roam the island, devouring or killing anyone they encounter. List Of Hell’s Paradise Top 30+ characters ranked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeVdqT3kEK4 Top 35 Strongest Hell's Paradise Characters |1| Rien Rien is practically the strongest character in the series. She held her own against all of the remaining humans and nearly killed them at that. The only reason she lost was that the gang exploited her weakness (Jofuku) and caught her off-guard. It was trickery that brought Rien her demise. Though she did reappear and nearly devastate everyone. |2| Gabimaru Gabi is by far the strongest human in Jigokuraku. Not only did he showcase a far better performance against Rien, but the Shinobi also outclassed nearly every other human if only by a slight margin. His impressive battle instincts, vast ninjutsu, insane physical capabilities, and amazing control over his Tao make him quite the ferocious enemy. |3/4| Shugen Shugen wields the uncanny ability to alter the attributes of his Tao, allowing him to damage nearly any adversary. This coupled with his immense knowledge and sword skills make him a deadly opponent enough to contend for the 3/4th spot. |3/4| Jikka While he may slack off quite often his strange ability allow him to contend with Shugen. Jikka’s unnatural technique allows him to not only figure out the safest and best attacking point but allow him to destroy a Lord Tensen level opponent fairly easily. This art or whatsoever is what I believe can be used to pit him at Shugen’s level. |5| Chobe The king of the bandits who achieved the body and abilities of a Lord Tensen, Chobe is arguably the 5th strongest character in Jigokuraku. His tenacity, adaptability, raw strength, and regenerative abilities come together and make him a force to mess with. His monster form allowed him to tackle many heavy hitters including Ju Fa and Gabimaru. In my humble opinion, no one deserves this position but him. |6| Shija The sadistic/masochist Shinobi who lusts after Gabimaru, Shija has what it takes to compete for number 6 on this list. She possesses a greater array of ninjutsu than Gabimaru and matches it up with her strategic mind, to fight even Base Rien. Her black Ascetic Blaze is quite a nifty technique. |7| Ju Fa-Tao Fa (Kishikai) While this form does come off as a Kishikai, I’ll be considering it a different being altogether since this is a fusion of two characters. This being can assume two separate forms, one suited for defense and the other for offense. I would’ve placed it higher than Shija but it's lackluster in terms of feats. It did get taken down by a team of the Aza brothers and Fuchi along with Gentetsuya. |8| Zhu Jin Now, this might come off as controversial but I have my reasons. While this Lord Tensen might crave attention from his kin, he still did fight equally with Shion (for a while). Zhu Jin also was the first person to ever demonstrate a partial Kishikai form. This form might be featless but judging from Shion’s reaction followed by Zhu jin’s escape does suggest the dude’s power. |9/10| Gantetsuya The infamous Blade-Dragon packs quite the punch. Gantetsuya demonstrated amazing finesse and skill with the blade but showcased destructive power with it as well. Enough to almost bring down Rien’s ship. While he originally did neglect the usage of Tao after accepting it he reached new heights. Putting him at this rank. |9/10| Shion Shion has quite some feats to back him up. Not only did he fight on par with Zhu Jin for some time, but he also managed to even gain the upper hand. Later against the Banko, he took down multiple Tensen clones, all while protecting Nurugai. |11| Ju Fa Ju Fa is one of the strongest Lord Tensen without Kishikai. He manhandled both of the Aza brothers and later on kept up with the two of them even if by a slight margin. His Fire Tao also blesses him with extremely destructive power. Plus he’s narratively/contextually asserted to be stronger than the rest of the Lord Tensen (Zhu Jin’s Partial Transformation is another case). |12/13| Ran In terms of martial arts, Ran is the top of the cream amongst the Tensen. He fended off both Gabimaru and Yuzuriha who were both slightly out-matched at the moment. Ran has also demonstrated mild control over his Kishikai. Though he did wind up losing to the combined strategy of the two shinobi. |12/13| Tao Fa I would never have placed her in this spot lest it wasn’t for her connection with Ju Fa. The two are stated to be the one and the same, beings cut from the same cloth. This can be used to pit her relative to him, but it is generally disagreed with. Though she did put up an impressive performance against Gentetsuya and Fuchi before getting pummeled by them. |14| Yuzuriha She’s a tough piece of work. She fought relatively to Gabimaru albeit slightly against Ran and later was the only one who stood up to Isuzu. Normally I’d place Sagiri higher than her but Yuzuriha’s vaster arsenal and tricky personality win her this rank. Her healing techniques are also quite the troublesome factor. |15| Sagiri Now this here will bring me quite the hate. But I have my reasons. First of all, in most of her fights, Sagiri has been carried on by someone. Secondly, she doesn’t have much of a strong standing. Against Rien, she was only the linchpin of the plan as she was the only one who could harm the Lord Tensen. Moreover, Gabimaru’s statement about her being stronger refers more to the emotional and mental state rather than physically. |16/17| Kyomaru Kyo is a lackluster character in terms of feats. He’s relative to Isuzu and is good with the blade. Nothing else to be honest. But he did prove to be slightly stronger than characters like Fuchi and the like. |16/17| Isuzu Same reasoning as Kiyomaru. |18| Toma He doesn’t have much to say for himself. He is practically the same case as Sagiri. Apart from that Toma is quite the prodigy and seems to possess an unrivaled talent with the blade. |19| Mu Dan Mu Dan is the weakest of all the Lord Tensen who have participated in a fight. He lacks complete control over his Kishikai form and is extremely cocky. But his large quantity of Tao and regenerative powers are what placed him at this spot. |20| Fuchi Fuchi is calm-headed and strategic. He was carried by others in nearly all of his fights. The only reason he made it this far is due to his skills and Tao control. Fundamentally that’s what puts him this high. |21| Nurugai The same case as Fuchi. Though her restorative powers are noteworthy. |22| Mei Mei has little to go about. She stopped Mu Dan in his Kishikai, opened a crater in the ground, and cleared a couple of boats. Nothing else. The reason she’s below Mu Dan is that she’s not built for fighting and lacks the firepower. And her pacifist-type personality doesn’t help one bit. |23| Gui Fa Gui Fa has no fighting feats. Nothing. It's just that she’s strong and has the regular abilities of a Lord Tensen. That is why Gui Fa is on this rank. |24/25| Centipede Doshi He overpowered both Gabimaru and Gentetsuya temporarily but eventually was utterly stomped by a Gabimaru who just began to manipulate Tao. His regenerative power is an added plus. |24/25| Butterfly Doshi Contextually speaking this thing is weaker than the above-mentioned thing. The only reason I say he’s interchangeable with the C-D is due to his control over grotesque butterflies which serve as a ranged attack. |26| Rokurota This giant is the physically strongest convict without the usage of Tao. Rokurota casually ripped apart trees, and physically overwhelmed Gabimaru. |27| Osa This shitty human has nothing to go by. All we know is that he’s skilled in genjutsu and should be strong as the head of Iwagakure. |28| Kichiji The original head of the Yamada Asaemon he should be strong. There is literally nothing else to go by. |29| Kumokiri There exists only a statement regarding him. One that claims he should be relative to Gabimaru. Again not much to go by. |30| Eizen He was the number one ranked Asaemon, but he died at the hands of a criminal. Nothing else. Read the full article

Is It a Lover's Quarrel?
Summary: Did the staff at the bar Kotaro went to during his depression bender ever wonder what Sakura's relationship was to him? Sakura is assumed to be Kotaro's secret wife by outsiders although both of them are unaware that everyone in the bar can hear them argue.
A scene from an outsider's perspective.
Notes: I just wanted to write something from a nameless person (in the show's) perspective/try something new. I think the original idea for this fic was all of Franchouchou finding out that Kotaro had a secret wife from a gossip interview and it's JUST Sakura/it's just that the staff of that bar misinterpreted things. But I went in this direction instead.
When I asked my friend what the restaurant was called that Kotaro got drunk at, they sent me this screenshot.
Tumblr media
And the fact that it's called Jofuku's Retreat is too funny. Did Jofuku franchise? Is that why he's not racking up more of a debt by going there? Is that why he has a specific bar and can't go to Yugiri's bar??? Because he doesn't have the money??? Or is it just because Jofuku's famous in Saga? Who knows, but it's too funny.

Kotaro Mikeyverse HC:
- contrary to Ryo collecting old-timers, he collects guitars, brands, designer and just different types (acoustic, electronic, etc)
- preserved Donnie's old guitar and commissioned a new custom designer guitar for him
- before Sakura died he pursued fashion design but then his plans changed and he got into the music industry
- he studied all aspects of the music industry. From composing to cosmetics, song writing and marketing
- instead of 10 years it took 20 years until his Zombie project started fruiting
- inbetween he used to be a singer but he bever gave concert and ended his career after 6 years, then he disappeared from public view completely. Though he had made himself quite the name which lead curious people to check out Franchouchou later once it became public who produces them.
- he uses Mikey as a feature singer for his girls but mainly uses her as model for fashion as he sometimes still designs (he also designs and tailors or commissions FranChouChou's outfits depending on the time he has)
- he asked Arata if he wants to unofficially become his personal photographer but Arata declined
- he keeps breaking into Arata's house using a hairpin until Arata's daughter gave him an extra copy of the housekeys
- he's an alcoholic (canon) with bulimic tendencies
- he got dyscalculia and thus tends to miscalculate some expenses
- he has IBS (semi canon)✌️😔
- begore he met Mikey he had actually lost his will and just went with the flow of things until he realized his efforts finally paid off
- he still loves Sakura but is not interested in her as a potential love interest anymore. He will pamper her tho if he feels like it
-he only wears high fashion and loves fur (thrifted already used materials prefferred over faux)
- he and Ryo dont get along
- he finds Donnie amusing and cares about him despite their enemy shenanigans
- he worries a lot about his girls
- he prostitutes himself to gain extra money or land the girls special deals nobody but him, Mikey, Yugiri and Arata know and thus is why he never judged Mikey for being a sex worker
He also used to work in Jofuku's bar as a waiter during the times he was studying and not active as a musician
-he is currently 32yrs
- he is very nlatantly and openly bisexual to a point people mistake him as gay and suspect his relationship with Mikey as a decoy. The news of Mikey's pregnancy went through the press and Arata had to type his fingers wound to try and combat with articles to support themas he still is a journalist
- he and Mikey regularly attend fashionweeks and shows
- he claims to have been friends with several famous fashion designers but hes actually lying about that
