Where California politicians stand on Palestine
The majority of Democrats in DC, despite their voter base being overwhelmingly in support of a ceasefire, refuse to disavow the genocide in Gaza or call for ceasefire.
They are able to do this, to disregard the outrage of their constituency, because they feel certain that no matter how many letters we send, we will show up and vote for them when the time comes. They are certain their actions have no consequences.
Senator Alex Padilla received about $31k from Israeli lobby groups. He refuses to call for a ceasefire. This was his going rate to enable genocide.
Senator Laphonza Butler was appointed in Oct 2023 after the death of Diane Feinstein, who was pro-Israel. No campaign finance info on file. She refuses to call for a ceasefire. Perhaps she's waiting for her payout.
12/52 California congressional representatives are Republicans. None have called for ceasefire. Palestinian genocide is core to the Republican platform.
Of the 40 Democrat representatives, only 11 have called for ceasefire. The following CA Democrat representatives have called for ceasefire. They were not swayed by money received from Israeli lobby groups.
Jared Huffman, 2 - not swayed by $1k from Israeli lobby groups this election cycle, down from 13.5k and 9.5k in the last two
John Garamendi, 8 - not swayed by $500 whole dollars from Israeli lobby groups, down from 5k and 15k
Mark Desaulnier, 10 - not swayed by $1k, down from 4k and 4.5k
Barbara Lee, 12 - not swayed by $13.5k, down from 27k and just 4k in 2020
Ro Khanna, 17 - not swayed by $12k, down from 45.5k and 23k
Judy Chu, 28 - not swayed by $1k, down from 7k and 10.5k
Tony Cardenas, 29 - not swayed by 35k, down from 70k and 38.5k
Jimmy Gomez, 34 - received nothing this cycle or 2020, not swayed by the $13.5k Israeli lobby groups gave in 2022
Robert Garcia, 42 - has received nothing from Israeli lobby groups since taking office in 2023
Maxine Waters, 43 - has received nothing from Israeli lobby groups in the past 3 election cycles
Sara Jacobs, 51 - not swayed by $9k, down from $26.5k in her first election cycle
The following CA Democrat representatives have refused to call for ceasefire. The approximate amount they've received from Israeli lobby groups since 2019 (the price it cost to buy their endorsement of genocide) is after each name and district number.
Mike Thompson, 4 (24k); Ami Bera, 6 (46.5k); Doris Matsui, 7 (9k); Josh Harder, 9 (159k); Nancy Pelosi, 11 (92.5k); Eric Swalwell, 14 (54.5k); Kevin Mullin, 15 (0 - 19-22 data missing); Anna Eshoo, 16 (34.5k); Zoe Lofgren, 18 (22k); Jimmy Panetta, 19 (14k); Jim Costa, 21 (127k); Salud Carbajal, 24 (27k); Raul Ruiz, 25 (24.5k); Julia Brownley, 26 (47.5k); Adam Schiff, 30 (205.5k); Grace Napolitano, 31 (8k); Brad Sherman, 32 (132k); Pete Aguilar, 33 (315.5k); Norma Torres, 35 (14.5k); Ted Lieu, 36 (122k); Sydney Kamlager, 37 (15.5k - 22 data missing); Linda Sanchez, 38 (36.5k); Mark Takano, 39 (17k); Nanette Barragan, 44 (69.5k); Lou Carrera, 46 (12.5k); Katie Porter, 47 (152.5k); Mike Levin, 49 (143k); Scott Peters, 50 (34k); Juan Vargas, 52; (208.5k)
The Republicans will be trash regardless, but we cannot let our Democrats skate by thinking there are no consequences for supporting a genocide. They are slaughtering people with your tax dollars, Americans. It's time to get serious. It's time to tell these people that they cannot have our votes for free. It's time to start talking about primary opposition and third party voting. It's time to start exercising our power as voting citizens.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at Nationwide Arena, Columbus, Ohio, April 21, 2024
As he led the E Street Band through “Twist and Shout,” Bruce Springsteen betrayed a roached voice much as John Lennon had when the Beatles cut their version 60 years earlier.
But, like Lennon’s, Springsteen’s voice benefitted from its battered state - conveying joy and conviction, not exhaustion.
The house lights were on and the heart-stoppin’, pants-droppin’, hard-rockin’, Earth-quakin’, booty-shakin’, love-makin’, Viagra-takin’, history-makin’ - legendary - E Street Band had already been on stage for three hours April 21 as it played its twice-postponed-in-2023 gig inside Columbus, Ohio’s, Nationwide Arena to close the U.S. leg of its 2024 spring tour. Springsteen, who at 74 retains the energy and voice - acrobatic with guttural growls and falsetto cries - of a much-younger man, was sweat-soaked, his tie tucked into his blue shirt, his vest now removed, returned alone to close the show with an acoustic version of “I’ll See You in My Dreams.”
Death is not the end, he sang, while proving the life-affirming nature of live music.
Though the band could’ve phoned it in, the expanded 18-piece - augmented with four-voice choir and five-piece horn section - instead brought a loud hailer, opening the 30-song, 185-minute set with a grimy version of “Youngstown,” the first of a handful of tour debuts that included “Streets of Fire” and “I’m Goin’ Down.” That some songs were slowed by a quarter-step seems to have been the only acknowledgement of age.
So, if these guys are actually taking Viagra, it isn’t because of on-stage impotence. The band is so hot that even relatively weak songs like “Bobby Jean” and “Dancing in the Dark” are splendid in the moment.
A few scattered empty seats did nothing to temper the raucous atmosphere inside the hockey arena. Fans hoisted signs - “I’m Mary, thanks for all the songs” was among the best - and Springsteen sung a line of “Thunder Road” to a woman who’d been dancing furiously in front of the stage all evening, causing her to light up like a strobe. Though there was no crowd surfing during “Hungry Heart” - dude is 74, remember - Springsteen did go into the audience during “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” as images of late E Streeters Clarence Clemons and Danny Federici shone on the house video screens.
Back on stage, the living celebrated being alive. Steven Van Zandt played a guitar emblazoned with the Ukraine flag during “No Surrender.” Fellow guitarist Nils Lofgren spun like the Tasmanian Devil as he unspooled his “Because the Night” solo. And Jake Clemons served as Springsteen’s saxophone-blowing foil and conjured Uncle Clarence’s spirit throughout the night, thus garnering some of the crowd’s loudest adulation.
One of those moments came during a religious-experience rendering of “Spirit in the Night,” when Clemons sat on the stage and Springsteen literally leaned on his bandmate. The music temporally settled before exploding like a supernova and the climax. This was the greatest E Street moment Sound Bites has witnessed since the Band reunited for the 1995 Concert for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“Last Man Standing,” with Springsteen on acoustic accompanied by trombone, was a nod to his earliest bandmates, all gone now. “Trapped” was a singalong on the choruses. “She’s the One” borrowed the Bo Diddley beat. “Wrecking Ball” transformed the arena into the charismatic church of E Street. “Rosalita (Come out Tonight)” found the group mugging and celebrating with the faithful on a small chunk of stage that jutted into the general-admission pit. And the vaunted “Detroit Medley” once again demonstrated that if you have rock ’n’ roll in your life, your life has the potential to be heaven at any given moment.

Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than what we could learn from books.” – John Lubbock
When it comes to learning from nature, winter can be a very clear and crisp teacher. If you see one avalanche, you know immediately that the natural processes at work in this season are strong and dangerous.
Avalanches can occur on many slopes in the national park. The wonderful folks at the Northwest Avalanche Center, NWAC, (their forecasts cover our mountain hint hint) have great educational opportunities for learning about avalanches. The science is just as incredible as avalanches are dangerous.
Tumblr media
Before you venture away from the parking lots, it is a good thing to find out about avalanches and what you can do to stay safe.
What do you do to learn about winter recreation before you visit the national park?
Have you taken an avalanche class either in person or online?
Are you now a snow geek, sending observations to NWAC to help out your fellow winter recreationists?
Park information on winter safety can be found here https://www.nps.gov/mora/planyourvisit/winter-safety.htm  Northwest Avalanche Center is at Home - Northwest Avalanche Center (nwac.us)

When you are trying to explain to an inquirer how the money system has been corrupted, while so many people don't realize it, this is a good quote from the father of deficit spending, Maynard Keynes:
“There is no subtler, no surer means of overturning the existing basis of society than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose."
--liberals’ economic hero, Keynes
Only one person in a million is savvy enough to realize the scam, right? He is saying it is the perfect fraud scheme to destroy a country, and history shows it always does; the majority of people refuse to acknowledge it, as they stuff the printed money into their pockets. By printing money, the government povertizes the middle class with inflation, deflates the welfare checks, but manages to expand the rich’s wealth, even as they claim to be against wealth.
Why are there ever-expanding, obvious rewards for wealthy industry leaders?
1. Because the wealthy are rewarded to go along with the fascist part of socialism: Buying out industry leaders to go along with the fascism of socialism. Subjugating industry to gov’t-funded profits which now dominate education, medicine, pharmaceuticals, defense, health insurance, and the equities markets.
2. The socialists can continually blame the rich for the system’s failure; they are scapegoats and rewarded stooges for the most evil people on earth: Communists, calling themselves democrats, socialists, or republicans.
---John Lofgren

The Rite Stuff-Border Stripe Tee

In 1979, Frank Zappa took a shine to an Eastern Indian rock/jazz violinist, L. Shankar. So much so that he produced an album with him, "Touch Me There." Not only does Frank produce, but he also co-writes half of the album and performs on one cut, "Dead Girls of London." So, not surprisingly, this disc sounds like much of the material Zappa was releasing around that time, even though it is technically a "Shankar" album. After obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Physics in India, Shankar moved to America in 1969 and earned a doctorate in ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University. Here he met jazz musicians Ornette Coleman, Jimmy Garrison, and John McLaughlin while working as a teaching assistant and concert master of the University Chamber Orchestra. In 1975 Shankar and McLaughlin founded Shakti, a pioneering, groundbreaking and highly influential east-meets-west collaboration, with a fluid sound that managed to successfully combine seemingly incompatible traditions. His first solo album, Touch Me There, was produced by Frank Zappa in 1979.[3] Shankar founded his own band - The Epidemics, in 1982, with the composer Caroline. He released three albums with the band. During the 1980s, Shankar recorded periodically as a leader, doing both jazz-based material and Indian classical music. His 1980 release of the album Who's To Know on ECM introduced the unique sound of his own invention, the ten-string, stereophonic double violin. This instrument, designed by Shankar and built by noted guitar maker Ken Parker, covers the entire orchestral range, including double bass, cello, viola and violin. He has recently developed a newer version of his instrument which is much lighter than the original.[3] 1990 saw Shankar co-producing a one hour film directed by H. O. Nazareth, which went on to be nominated for Best Documentary film at the Cannes film festival. Shankar worked on the score of the film The Last Temptation of Christ (1988),composed by Peter Gabriel, with his music ending up on both albums of the score - Passion: Music for The Last Temptation of Christ and Passion - Sources. He won a Grammy for his work on the latter in 1994. 1996 saw a Grammy nomination for the album Raga Aberi.[1] Shankar has performed on several of Peter Gabriel's records such as So and Us. Since 1996, Shankar has toured internationally with fellow-violinist (and his niece) Gingger as "Shankar & Gingger", garnering critical acclaim and popularity.[4] The two performed at events including the Concert for Global Harmony and Nelson Mandela's 80th birthday celebrations. Shankar & Gingger released their first DVD One in a Million in 2001. After a critically successful tour of North America, the DVD went to number 1 on the Neilsen Soundscan DVD charts and stayed there for four weeks.[3] In 2004, Shankar composed additional music with Gingger Shankar for John Debney and performed on the score for the film The Passion of the Christ (2004). Shankar has played with some of the greatest musical contemporaries of his time, including Lou Reed, Echo & the Bunnymen, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Charly García, Jonathan Davis, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, Stewart Copeland, Yoko Ono, A. R. Rahman, John Waite, Steve Vai, Ginger Baker, Toto, Nils Lofgren, Mark O'Connor, and Sting.[3] Shankar has been praised for his ability to mix Eastern and Western influences, assimilating Carnatic music with pop, rock, jazz and contemporary world music.[5] He admits "Ultimately, I would like to bring the East and West together. That, I think, is my role," he says. More recently, Shankar has used a new stage name, Shenkar, and has created recordings under this name. In 2006  2007, Shenkar provided the vocals for the opening credit music and other themes for all episodes of the hit TV series Heroes. He has been lately working in Jonathan Davis', Stephen Day and Ana Maria Lombo's next records.

ALL KILLER, NO FILLER
I only have one Jerry Lee story, but it’s a good one. In May 2004 I was about to leave the USA Network to return to Viacom. But not before, I oversaw the last of a trilogy of Willie Nelson tributes we had produced annually starting in 2002. Over the previous two years we had been able to attract dozens of amazing artists to appear with Willie, including Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Paul Simon, John Mellencamp, Elvis Costello Norah Jones, Toots, Bon Jovi, ZZ Top, Ray Charles and many, many others.
The final one, taped in LA (in celebration of Willie’s 70th birthday) was to be no exception. Bob Dylan, Al Green, Merle Haggard, Kid Rock and Keith Richards were among the many performers slated to be on hand. About 48 hours before the show, and with a bit of hesitation,
Willie’s manager Mark Rothbaum asked Jerry Lee to participate.
Willie and Jerry had a long if not complicated relationship.
l think they were getting drunk together the night Elvis died. But I might have to go back and verify that one.
Anyway…afterr a bit of back and forth, arrangements were made to get the Killer to LA. He finally arrived backstage the day before the taping and walked around all day scowling in a terrycloth robe and shower slippers, his horribly long yellow nails portruding from both feet.
He looked awful and unhealthy. He had a greenish hue to his skin, cadaver like. I was certain he wouldn’t make to showtime. Hard to believe he lived another 20 years or so.
The idea was for Jerry to perform in the finale along with Willie, Keef, and Merle.
They would perform “Trouble in Mind”, “Whole Lotta Shakin”, “You Win Again”, and “Honky Tonk Woman” with Kid Rock on lead vocals.
Rehearsal finally started as midnight approached. The all star band with the likes of Nils Lofgren and Jim Keltner took their places. Willie slid on stage and put on his guitar, Merle does the same, then Jerry Lee sits at the piano, and now everyone is waiting for Keith. After a few minutes Keef finally arrives and bounding on to the set and announces….
“Ain’t It great we’re all out of jail at the same time??!!”
Maybe the best line EVER.
Anyway…everyone is ready to go.
They want to try “Honky Tonk Woman” first. The band kicks in.
Now this is a song we all know by heart. We have heard it a million times. I can’t play any musical instrument, but I bet I could figure it out in time from muscle memory.
So, the all star band is rocking The Stones classic but Jerry seems to be playing something else. It sounds awful…like a car accident. Everyone on stage is looking around at one another bewildered. Everything stops… the music director and the “billion dollar quartet” huddle around Jerry Lee and his piano…and after some discussion, they try again.
It sounds no better. Worse maybe.
They huddle again…and then Jerry Lee proclaims….
“If we can’t play it my way…we ain’t playing it at all”.
And….they did not.
They didn’t call him “The Killer” for nothing.

"I have mad respect for athletes and have penned a few songs with more to give all the way around," says my friend, singer, and songwriter Cindy Mizelle.
Cindy Mizelle is the proud mother of three children. Her two sons are professional athletes. Devin Fuller, a wide receiver with the Atlanta Falcons, and Jordan Fuller, a safety for the Carolina Panthers, have had distinguished careers in the NFL.
Her incredible career includes Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Seeger Sessions Band, Steely Dan, Billy Ocean, Whitney Houston, Dave Matthews, Duran Duran, Freddie Jackson,  Carly Simon, Alicia Keys, and Luther Vandross.
Cindy told Rolling Stone Magazine that growing up, she knew a singing career was in her future, "I just said, "I know how to do this." I played the flute, too, and I knew scales. Everything was a musical thing for me. And once I found that power, I was like, "I'm going!"
I met Cindy on Luther Vandross's Never Let Me Go tour in 1993. Cindy toured and recorded with Luther Vandross for over twenty years. She admits working with Luther felt like family. "I loved everything about him. I could relax and be myself, and he was so supportive. When it came down to my kids, he got them their first shoes."
Between gigs with Luther Vandross and the Rolling Stones, Cindy managed to squeeze the recording of her debut album, Cindy Mizelle, on Atlantic Records. My favorite tracks include the lead single, "I've Had Enough," "Smile, and "Back To Emotions."
Through Cindy, I met the talented performer Katreese Barnes, who was the musical director for SNL and won an Emmy for 'Dick In The Box." I styled Katreese for several shoots and co-produced her show, Rocket Man, featuring the music by Elton John.
A few years later, in 1995, Cindy gave me the gift of a lifetime when she sang lead vocals on the dance song I co-wrote with Keith Haarmeyer, "That Man Of Mine." The fantastic Brenda White-King also performed backing vocals on the record.
I'll always remember the day we recorded the song in Keith's one-bedroom apartment in New York City. After Cindy looked at the lyrics sheet, she asked me if I had a specific idea of how I'd like her to sing the lyrics. Then, to my astonishment, she said the chorus line five or six different ways, varying her tone and phrasing with each variation. It was the most incredible thing I've ever witnessed. I still have goosebumps thinking about it. The power and control she has with her voice are great, too.
I'm not Cindy's only fan, either. In her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Mariah Carey praises Cindy Mizelle: "To me, she was one of the absolute greatest. "Cindy Mizelle was the background singer. She sang with the most gifted vocalists of all time—Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, and the Rolling Stones. She was a real singer's singer. Cindy was that girl to me. I looked up to her so much.
It was also a thrill for me to design costumes for The Lovely Ladies (Tawatha Agee, Brenda, and Cindy) when they were on tour with Dave Matthews Band. Most recently, my boyfriend Joe and I filmed Cindy for Nils Lofgren's "Ain't The Truth Enough" music video.
Music is part of her DNA. Cindy Mizelle is the cousin of the famous Mizell Brothers (they dropped the word "e" out of their name), who wrote songs for the Jackson 5 and A Taste of Honey. She's also the cousin of the Ronettes. She told Rolling Stone magazine, "I looked them up and was like, "Oh, my gosh!" That was my motivation there. I'd play their records and figure out what they did. I started singing in the basement and in bands after that."
She mentions how Ronnie Spector always supported her in her career. It's a pleasure to spotlight this remarkable woman whose heart is as big and beautiful as her voice.
