noises in the bedroom with ron, lew, lieb, luz, and shifty
Tumblr media
word count: 770+
warnings: reader has female genitalia, degradation (only in ron's), praise, teasing, i call nixon a whore for the reader (it's true)
notes: i couldn't include babe in this one cause i just decided that i would write for him (and therefore i must do Research) but hope you guys enjoy anyway !!
ronald speirs
big on praise-degradation, like 50/50 on it
unless you managed to really set him off (ex; make him jealous on purpose, tease him, be a brat, etc.), then don't expect very many kind words
he can be so mean and unfair when he wants to, but by the end of it he’s worshiping you like you're a deity
he’ll call you a slut but his slut, yk?
could not care less about who hears — no one's gonna confront him about it anyway with his reputation, and they're definitely not coming up to you either since they know ron is going to be death glaring them the whole time
he groans and grunts huskily + openly and encourages you to not cover up/muffle your sounds with your hand
(quickies are, of course, the exception since that would be unsafe, and if higher-ups are around, obviously he's about to care; in any other situation though, no one is safe from hearing the two of you)
lewis nixon
somehow his moans are louder than yours???
LIKE that's not a bad thing, it just means he's enjoying it just as much as you but he's just so vocal about it, saying your name or princess, doll, sweetheart like his life depended on it
(he's such a whore for you, especially when he goes down on you. you're gonna be feeling the vibrations of his groans bc omg is he obsessed with eating you out…but that's another story)
this is mostly because he also does not care who hears (same exceptions as ron). i imagine dick having to come talk to you all flustered, his face matching his hair and his eyes cast to the ground, asking you guys to keep it down
…nixon definitely didn't get any play for two weeks after that
despite being the #1 slut for you, he still manages to tease you, saying things like, “tell me how bad you want it.” (as if he doesn't want it just as bad)
joseph liebgott
he's probably the biggest pottymouth out of the five
anything he does is followed up by a hoarse “fuck, doll” or “shit, (y/n)”
he's trying to cover up the fact that he's a bit of a whiner/panter
he’ll kiss marks onto and around your breasts to muffle the sound of his moans
definitely says “yeah, you like that?” or “that feel good, baby?” during foreplay, smirking down at you while you’re begging for more (he's a little cocky with it)
becomes soft during and afterwards; he's scared to be vulnerable but he can't help telling you how pretty you look, how good you feel, and how much he loves you
will probably confess some of these things in german so he's not as vulnerable, but you still get the gist either way (and if you do understand german, he's screwed)
george luz
honestly he's just kind of unserious, like this man is giggling he's so happy to be with you (and his laughter and smile are infectious so now you're laughing too and telling him to shut up)
he’ll praise you with jokes, telling you you're prettier than any pinup model
“rita doesn't have anything on you, beautiful.” cue you rolling your eyes with a smile and telling him he’s cheesy
he's a little bit of a cusser too (especially when you play with his hair), not to the level of lieb though
“damn, (y/n), i'm lucky you're all mine.”
eventually the jokes and goofiness dissolve into him straight up telling you how good you feel around him and that you're especially gorgeous like this
+ him confessing his love for you when he's still catching his breath
“(y/n), have i ever told you how much i love you?”
“maybe 100 times today, george”
“oh so not enough then” you kiss him before he can remind you again
shifty powers
loves to praise you (and be praised honestly)
like he swears up and down that you're the most perfect girl alive
he can't believe that you're his and he's yours
kind of shy about his moans but he can't stop himself/hide them well enough because he moans at the slightest touch (he's so in love with you)
whimpers when you say he's making you feel good and “don't stop”
he's definitely asking if you're sure about anything and everything, reminding you that you don't have to go through with this if you don't absolutely want to
you just have to be like “darrell c. powers, please just take me” and lord will he oblige you with the brightest goddamn smile on his face

Hey! I love your work so much! Like your writing is actually beautiful! Anyway, I was wondering if you could do some of the Easy Boys if you were to tell them your pregnant? If not that’s totally ok, I completely get it. I just thought it would be kinda cute lol. I was wondering if you could include Bull, Lieb, Gene, and Winters along with whoever you want bc let’s be honest, I’m in love with them all.
A/n hope you liked this anon! <3
Warnings, so much fluff, slight language, probably needs a spell check.
Tumblr media
Bull Randleman
You weren't sure of how he'd react, sure you loved each other but you never got to the point of whether or not you were having kids. When you did tell him his face stayed neutral, you almost thought that he was upset at first until a huge grin displayed across his face. He took you into his arms and gave you the biggest hug. He rubbed your back and kissed the top of your head, holding you close. He then let go to kiss your stomach. Telling his future kid that he loves them. When he looked back at you he had the most genuine smile.
“son of a bitch, I'm going to be a father”
“Damn right your are”
Joseph Leibgott
You just made this man stop completely in his tracks, you knew how bad he wanted a family so as soon as you found out you were expecting, you went running to tell him. He had the biggest holy shit face. He immediately ran to you and scooped you up. He started to ramble, thanking you and telling you how much he loves you and how happy and excited he is. He then gives you the sweetest kiss. The whole day he sported the biggest smile, if anyone asked why so joyfully he proudly told them that he was going to be a father. If this was a modern au I would totally see him calling you a milf, respectfully
“holy shit I love you so much, you're amazing you know that? I'm gonna be a dad, jesus”
“The best”
Eugene roe
Like bull you haven't discussed the possibility of having kids. You had no idea what to expect telling him the news. You honestly expected the worst. But all that fear washed away immediately when you saw the excitement in his eyes and the wide smile on his face. He asked you if this is what you want and when you nodded with yes he went straight to hug you. Gene would be so caring with you. I honestly think that he would find trinkets and toys to give you his kid when he's old enough.  Will be such a great dad.
“Are you sure we're ready for this”
“Probably not but one things for sure is you are going to be a great mom”
Richard winters
you wanted kids and so did winters, you've talked and discussed it before, even going as far as telling what names you liked and disliked. But it was always something you said you would do later in life, so it came as a surprise when you found out you were pregnant so soon. Telling him was exciting and nauseating at the same time. It took him a second to  register what you meant, but he was more than excited. Starting a family has been something he's always wanted and now it's a dream come true. He rapped you in your arms telling you how happy he gets to do this with you.
“I love you, you know that?”
“More than you know”
Ronald Speirs
Honestly children were never really in the question. When you and Speirs talked about your future you would talk about beaches and vacations and buying a big house. Never kids. So you were rightfully terrified to find out you were pregnant. You had no idea if Speirs ever wanted kids. When you told him you half expected for him to walk away. It took at least ten seconds for him to make any face acknowledging to you his feelings. That's when he hugged you. When he pulled away he had tears in his eyes and a smile on his face.
“were having a kid?”
“We are”
“I love you”

Tumblr media
I was born in Chicago. My mother was born in Groningen, Netherlands, and my father in Antwerp, Belgium. I was the oldest child, and after me, my parents had five others. Despite having six kids, we were all taught Dutch and German from a young age. The sole reason I was accepted into the military was because of me being trilingual, I’ll forever be grateful to my parents for teaching me their languages.
February 9, 1945
Easy Company was on its way to France. We were stationed in Haguenau, which had been taken by the Allies in December. Honestly speaking, I didn’t really know what to expect when we got there. I was sitting in the back of a truck, squished between Babe and Liebgott. Joe had become a close friend way back in Toccoa when he’d fallen running up Currahee, and I stopped and helped him up. We both had our 48-hour weekend passes revoked, but we made the most of it that weekend together. After that, we’d spend our weekend passes together and hang out.
I was leaning against Joe as I’d been almost the whole ride, his arm slung around my shoulders as I read a book that I had found when we invaded Foy. It seemed the Krauts enjoyed good literature as I was reading For Whom the Bell Tolls in German. I was a translator for Easy Company, being able to speak English, German and Dutch, I was a heavy asset to the team. It was a beautifully told story about the Civil War that had some romance aspects while also being brutal. I finished the book twice, and now I was reading it a third time.
“Jesus doll, I think I’ve seen you read that damn book about forty times now. How good can it be?” Joe said when he noticed my attention had strayed.
“Oh it’s a beautifully told story, Joe. Although, I don’t think you could read anything that didn’t have pictures.” I replied jokingly to him, looking up at him from where I was leaning against him. I could hear Babe and Malarkey laughing, and a young soldier, Jackson watching intently.
“How can you read that, (L/n)?” A quiet voice asked in front of me. It’d been from Jackson. He lied on his documents so that made him 20 right now while I, at 23, was considered young.
“I can speak and read German. Although my mother is a Dutch immigrant, my father was a Belgium immigrant.” I spoke honestly. Picking up languages was a bit of a gift for me. I’d always been good at remembering and learning languages, probably since I was taught three languages at once from a young age.
“(Y/n)! I’ve read that book! It’s so beautifully written.” A new voice spoke from the opening in the back of the truck, I quickly jolted from Joe’s shoulder, as he groaned from lack of contact, to see who the familiar voice belonged to.
“David Webster? Where the hell have you been?” I interrogated, while simultaneously giving him a toothy smile. He blushed slightly while asking Jackson for a hand to get up on the truck and suddenly Joe spoke up sharply,
“The hospital. Must’ve liked that hospital Webster, cause uh, we left Holland four months ago.” After saying that he gave Web a dismissive look while tightening his hold on my shoulders. Suddenly, I felt very awkward, and slightly bad for Web - the war was tough and it was understandable to be afraid, it just wasn’t fair that some men snuck out only to get killed or injured more severely than the first time. They started going back and forth, jabbing at Webster passively, although it didn’t seem to be because they didn’t like him, they were just tired and upset. I gave Web a smile before getting off the truck, following Joe close behind.
“Y’know, you didn’t have to be so mean to Web.” I said calmly, making sure to not seem mad at Joe as to not have him get defensive.
“I guess, but it’s bullshit that we had men come back just to get killed.” He said quickly. When he said that, I saw Lieutenant Lipton sluggishly walking towards a building. The poor man had a bad case of Pneumonia, so I ran over and put his arm under my shoulders to help him. As I did that, explosions rang over our head and fell a little farther than we were. He gave me a smile and I helped him into the building he was walking towards. It was pretty on the inside, Luz and Captain Speirs were in the room along with Webster walking in.
“Hey look who it is. Nice digs, huh, Lip? (Y/n)?” Luz said to me and Lipton as I helped Lipton situate himself on the couch.
“Yeah.” Lipton called back, unenthusiastically and coughed slightly after.
George came over with a blanket and put it on Lipton. He had a lit cigarette in his mouth, so I took it out and took a long drag from it.
“Hey what gives (Y/n). Just ‘cause you’re a pretty dame with a nice rack doesn’t mean you can steal my cigs.” He said while laughing, only partly joking. I gave him a look and replied,
“You’re just mad, this is all you get to see of my ‘nice’ rack.”
He laughed and replied with a ‘you bet’. As he said that, a new voice spoke up, mock confident.
“Ahem. Is this the company CP for Easy?” He asked, looking at me and Luz weirdly before I went to get Lip a cup of hot coffee.
From the kitchen, I could vaguely hear that he called himself Lieutenant Jones and that he was asking for Captain Speirs. I came out with a coffee for Lipton as Speirs was drilling him about going to the back to sack out and rest. I noticed Jones had stood up when Speirs walked in.
“Christ Captain, give him a break. He’s got Pneumonia!” I told Speirs as I handed Lipton his coffee and gave him a squeeze on his shoulder. Lipton thanked me with a small smile as the new guy looked at me with an expression I couldn’t decipher.
“Hello to you Ms. (L/n). If he doesn’t rest up though, that Pneumonia won’t go away.” He said pointedly at Lipton.
“I’m sorry, are you a field nurse? I didn’t think they let field nurses come this close to action.” Jones asked me, even though he wasn’t asking with any malicious intent, and it was all curiosity, I still got upset.
“Why d’ya think I’m a field nurse? I’m literally in uniform.” I deadpanned at him while giving him a little attitude for automatically assuming I’d be a field nurse just because I was a woman.
“Oh. I’m sorry, truly I was just curious. I didn't mean any offense, I just didn’t know they let women become paratroopers.” He said quickly, face turning slightly red.
“They don’t. (Y/n) here has some insane stamina, and she’s a helluva shot!” Webster spoke up for me, and I threw him a smile.
“Oh gee, Shifty’s got a better shot than I’d ever dream of having.” I replied, giving credit to Shifty, as he did have a better shot and he was just the sweetest man alive. At that, Winters walked in and told us he’d need fifteen of us on a patrol tonight to capture prisoners. When he said he’d need a translator, I instantly knew it’d be me or Joe as we were the only two in Second Platoon who could speak German. Webster could as well, but we didn’t know which Platoon he’d be in.
After Nixon and Winters left, Speirs began talking to Lipton about who should lead, and who he could take for the patrol. During this, Jones asked to be on the patrol, which Speirs answered quickly and easily with a no, that he hadn’t any experience.
“Lipton, how many prisoners do you think there’ll be?” Speirs asked the man in question.
“Honestly, sir, I’m not quite sure, anywhere between three to forty it seems.” He said in reply.
“(L/n).” Speirs called for me as I was sitting in a chair reading.
“Ya want me to be a translator, that it?” I asked, knowing that’s what he was about to ask me.
“Yes ma’am.”
“Alright.”
When Webster and Lieutenant Jones left for OP two, I decided to get going as well. I knew Liebgott would be there so that was a good enough reason for me.
“Web, I’m comin’ with. Joe’s probably there right now.” I said to David, although slightly talking to Jones as well, to let him know I’d be going to.
“Yeah, no problem. Say when you’re finished with that book, d’ya mind if I reread it?” He asked me as all three of us walked down the street.
“Awh hell Web, I’ve read this thing three times now, you can go ahead and read it now.” I said while throwing him the book, silently noting how quiet Lieutenant Jones was behind us. The two men were running around crouching behind a little garden wall as I stood up, not seeing why they were doing that. When I heard the door open, Sergeant Kiehn came out, greeting me and Web and telling us where OP two was at. Before anymore words could get exchanged, bombs and mortars started raining down on us and we started running and ducking to take cover. We sat against the wall of a building before a man shouted out that it was all clear. After that, we quickly got to the building where OP two was located. Once inside, I immediately went upstairs and sat down on Joe’s bunk and plopped my stuff down.
“Hey doll, where’d you run off to?” Joe asked while wrapping his arms around me as a way to annoy me.
“Went to help Lip, where’d you go?” I asked while laughing at him.
“Came here.” He replied while digging his face into my stomach and faking sleep. Web and Lieutenant Jones came up not too long after I had, and when Jones saw me and Liebgott he immediately stiffened and gave me and Joe a weird look.
“This spot taken?” Webster asked.
“Nah it’s all yours.” Joe said to him while turning his face away from my stomach, my hands went down to card through his hair and he took notice of Jones’ look.
“Fuck are you staring at?” Joe asked him while sitting up and giving him his own glare.
“I’m sorry?” The Lieutenant asked, offended.
“You got a starin’ problem? Why you lookin’ at me and (Y/n) like that?” He challenged him.
“Alright, alright. Quit fighting, we’ve got news.” Webster said, breaking up the fight.
“Dummer, zimperlicher Junge, der dich so ansieht. (Stupid, prissy boy, lookin at you like that)” Joe mumbled to me in German, only loud enough for only me to hear.
“Er ist einfach sauer, weil du mich berührst und nicht er. (He's just mad because you're touching me and not him)” I said back laughing.
Me and Joe got up to go talk to a bunch of men in the corner laughing and smoking, while Webster and Jones went to talk to Malark. When Joe heard them talk about the patrol he pulled Web aside and I went and sat next to Babe to listen to what he was going to say.
“What do you know about this patrol thing?” Joe asked Web quietly.
“Uh, nothing.” Web said while nodding his head.
“Oh, come on, Web. You gotta know something.” Ramirez interrogated.
“I don’t” He replied adamantly
` “Bullshit.”
Web and everyone went back and forth and soon more people sat down to listen. I knew Web wouldn’t give anything up, so I decided to. My head was starting to hurt and I wanted to lay down before the patrol knowing I’d be on it at 0100.
“Speirs is picking fifteen men, Jonesy boy wants to be one of ‘em.” I said while yawning. Joe looked down at me and said,
“I say let the kid go, he could use the experience.” He smiled then Ramirez perked up,
“And I bet they could find fourteen other replacements to help him out.” while smirking.
“Nope.” I said, popping the p. “Babe, McClung, Ramirez and I are going out there.” I said dismissively.
“(Y/n)!” Web hissed at me.
“What?” I asked, confused. Then proceeded with,
“Pssh, I’ll just say it was you who said it, Joe and Babe’ll back me up, won’t you boys.” I asked, smiling up at Joe then at Babe.
“Course we will, doll.” Joe replied and Babe grunted. Webster deadpanned me and sat down when Malarkey started telling us about the patrol.
When the phone rang, and the PX supplies came in, I was ecstatic. New shoes and a shower? Felt like late Christmas. On our way out, the Krauts started to bomb us. We ran down the stairs and I threw myself under a table with Joe. When we had made it outside, we heard there was a casualty, Bill Kiehn. He was a Toccoa man. It was upsetting and it was unfair that he’d gotten through Bastogne only to die like this. I hadn’t known him too well, but the fact that I’d been talking to him 30 minutes prior made me feel like throwing up. Instead of staying to watch, me and the rest of the second platoon went over to the showers to pick up our new ODs.
Arriving at the showers, we went to go pick up our new ODs, and anything else they’d dropped for us. Nixon was standing by the depot and was holding a box with my name on it. Being the only woman paratrooper here meant I’d need a different size uniform and boots. I thanked Nixon and grabbed the box, opening it. Inside there was a uniform my size, boots, and women’s sanitary needs, a new bra set, and a few new pairs of panties.
“Well ain’t you a lucky gal, getting new undergarments while we’re stuck with the same briefs.” A voice came from behind me. Getting ready to yell at whoever was looking over my shoulder, I turned and realized it was Joe.
“Aww, poor baby has to wear the same briefs.” I replied, feigning upset and then laughing when I saw his disgruntled expression.
 Before I could run off to take a much needed shower, Malarkey called for us to let us know who’d be going on the patrol.
Heffron, McClung, Ramirez, me, Liebgott, Grant, Wynn, Jackson, Shifty and Webster. When we heard how many second platoon men were going, you could practically feel the rage flowing from us.
We’d all been pissed, wanting to complain but knowing it’d do us no good. Malarkey went off towards the showers and told us to as well. There were men standing at the entrance, undressing and some coming out wet. I didn’t want to undress, even if it was only down to my bra and panties. I’d been behind Joe when I took my first few layers of my tops off. Down to my black bra and army-issued pants was when Webster came up to talk to Joe, effectively, scaring the shit out of me.
“Jesus, Web, you came outta nowhere.” I said, holding my hand to my chest to calm down.
“Oops, sorry (Y/n).” He said while rubbing the back of his neck nervously. I’d noticed his face had turned a bright shade of red, but I thought it was because he was embarrassed that he’d scared me. A hand shot out to grab my arm and turn me around when I noticed it was Joe.
“What’s the matter?” I asked curiously.
“Do you not see everyone lookin’ at you like they’re starving men looking at their last meal?” He asked bewildered. Suddenly, I became hyper aware of most of the men's eyes on me, waiting for me to finish undressing. Before I could respond Joe spoke up again.
“Nevermind that, just finish and we can go in together.” Quickly I went to undo my belt, and I realized Joe was already down to his briefs, waiting on me. I felt bad to make him wait, but he didn’t have to if he didn’t want to. I took this time to really look at Joe. Sure he was cute, and I’d definitely thought about him like this before, but would he really want me? I tried not to let my hopes get up, and as I slipped my pants down my legs, I forced myself to look away from his bare chest.
Having a hot shower was probably the best thing I’d had in a long time. Quickly scrubbing my body and hair down and then rinsing off, I stepped outside in a towel and grabbed my new uniform, and new undergarments.
Joe had finished showering, so I grabbed him by the arm and dragged him to a random building to change, and do my hair. When we got in, there was nobody there, probably all in the showers, so I took Joe to the first mirror I found in a bedroom and made him sit down. He had no obligations and I told him I’d be back after changing. Once I finished, I brought out my old undergarments and towel and hung them out to dry.
There was a vanity on the opposite side of a bed, with a little cushion seat, and some old, dusty hair products. I quickly got to work using them and braiding up my hair.
“Why’d you pull me away doll? Want me that bad huh?” He questioned while smirking at me and drawing a cigarette from his front pocket.
“Yeah, you wish. I wanted someone to talk to.” I joked back before replying honestly and looking at him through the mirror. I finished doing my last braid as Joe was telling me about one of his comics he found that he enjoyed. Standing up, I walked over to stand in front of him, looking down on him as he was sitting on the bed. He stopped talking and we made eye contact. He looked as handsome as ever sitting in his new ODs, with a fresh shower.
“Well don’t you look handsome in your new uniform with your hair combed.” I said to him in a sweet voice running my hands through his wet hair. His eyes darkened as his hands went to hold onto my hips.
“Jesus, (Y/n). We’ve been through hell and back and you’re still the most gorgeous woman I’d ever seen.” He said confidently. I could feel my face getting hot, he’d said things like this before, but this time, it felt different. Stronger almost.
“Oh, Joe. You’re the most handsome man I’ve ever met.” I whispered to him, and he looked up at my lips, silently asking me. I slowly closed my eyes and let my hands fall from his hair down to his face, I slowly leaned down as he looked up and closed my eyes. As our lips were less than a centimeter apart, someone awkwardly coughed.
We sprung away from each other, embarrassed that we got caught. Looking at who it was, some random replacement apologized and said he left something in here and it was his room.
When he left, I started laughing and grabbed Joe by the arm to pull him up.
“Come on, I bet everyone is wondering where we went.”
“Goddammit Johnny, you’re breaking my heart.” Luz said.
“Come on, George, just give me, I don’t know, ten, fifteen bars?” Martin pressured him
“Juicy fruit, happy?”
Johnny and Cobb had been pestering George to give them Hershey bars. I knew there wasn’t enough, and that it wasn’t fair so I just stayed quiet the whole time. Cobb began badgering George again and when George went to defend himself, a whole group of men walked in.
“Whoa, Hershey bars!” Joe exclaimed, coming up behind me to rest his hands on my shoulders from where I was sitting in front of the table of candy and treats.
“Jesus Christ.” Poor George just couldn’t catch a break.
“Wait your turn, Liebgott.” Cobb said, pissing me off. I never really liked Cobb and he didn’t like me.
“Yeah, who they for?” Liebgott asked George.
“Not you, Lieb.”
“Oh come on George, one bar!” Joe pestered, wanting to get that bar.
“Y’know who they’re for? People who don’t interrogate me. Here, (Y/n), have a bar!” George replied while looking Joe in the eye.
“Oh George! Thank you!” I exclaimed excitedly. I hadn’t known the last time I’d gotten chocolate.
“Christ, you’re only giving it to her because she’s a woman and you wanna get on her good side in case the opportunity arises to fuck her!” Cobb said angrily as I turned around, glaring, ready to hit him.
“That sounds more like something you’d do, knowing you couldn’t get a woman to sleep with you willingly if your life depended on it!” I yelled back at him which caused him to call me a slur of colorful words. After that, Joe yelled at him and I ignored him.
“Hey big mouth! Give Lieb a Hershey bar, huh?” Perconte asked.
When I heard his voice, I jumped up, running up to him to give him a hug.
“Perco! Your back!” I exclaimed as he hugged me back.
“You gotta be shittin’ me! Look who it is!” George laughed and said.
“How ya feeling?” Joe then asked him, smiling.
“As long as you keep your hands off my ass, I’ll be fine.” Perconte replied, laughing.
“Have a Hershey’s!” Luz threw one at Perconte.
“Hey he gets a fuckin Hershey bar?” Joe asked, offended as I came to sit down next to him, opening up my Hershey’s.
“Ask ya girlfriend to french ya when she’s done eating it.” George joked as I took a bite into my bar and broke it in half.
“I’ll do you one better, Joe.” I said after I swallowed and handed him the half I didn’t bite into. He took it with thanks.
“That’s not one better, he’d rather you kiss him (L/n)!” Luz said while laughing right after. Joe pushed him backwards while also laughing
At 1700, there was a briefing about the house we’d be going into. I was next to Shifty, talking with him. Every now and again me and Joe would make eye contact, until the other looked away. Winters, and Martin walked in which caused Joe to look away first. Winters explained Johnny would be going in Malarkey's place, and that made everyone slightly more comfortable. I was on Johnny’s team, along with Webster. I walked out and Liebgott was waiting for me, he left with me and as we passed Speirs, he told Joe he didn’t have to go on the patrol.
We’d been all stationed in the basement for now before the patrol. Having to eat slop and we couldn’t have our helmets. I sat with Shifty as I ate.
“Youse gonna be out there with a gun?” Shifty asked me in a sweet voice, I knew what he was talking about. He was asking if I’d be helping shoot.
“Nah, well obviously I’ll have a gun, but I’m mainly a translator.” I smiled at him and he smiled back.
“I don’ understand why they never let you shoot with me. You’re a helluva sniper.” Shifty told me, making me giggle at him.
“Oh Shift, you know how to make a woman feel good about herself.” I replied, happy that I got to talk to him before the patrol. He always knew how to make someone happy, even during nerve-wracking times.
At 0100, we were getting into those rubber boats, and setting sail on a short trip across the river. Before the fourth boat could even get far, it flipped and we were down three men. I wasn’t too nervous, knowing that I’d been through worse. When we got to the other side, Martin had someone cut the fence and me and Web, being translators, meant that we had to be up front in case we found any Germans.
So far, we’d gotten up to the steps of the house we’d need to get prisoners from. Johnny had shot into the window, and Jackson went up to throw his grenade, except, instead of waiting for it to finish detonating, Jackson didn’t stop and immediately went into the house, getting hit straight in the face with his grenade. As we ran in, me and Web were yelling at the men in German. We started to split the three men up when I heard a small cry in the corner of the room. I stopped to turn to go towards the sound.
“(L/n)! What are you doing?” Johnny yelled at me.
“Sir! There’s a child!” I shouted, confused. When I got down eye level with the little girl, I noticed she was only in a thin, white nightgown, with no shoes. She looked malnourished, hurt and mostly scared.
“Alsjeblieft! Alsjeblieft! (Please! Please!)” The little girl cried in Dutch, shrinking away from me when I went to get her.
“Het is goed schat! Rustig maar, ik ben hier om te helpen! (Its okay dear! Relax, I'm here to help!)” I replied to her in Dutch. What had a little Dutch girl been doing here? I didn’t have time to continue to calm the little girl before Johnny started yelling about getting on the boats and leaving.
“Klein meisje, ik ga je ophalen. (Little girl, I'm going to pick you up.)” I warned her before grabbing her bridal style and running with her out of the house and covering her eyes to make sure she didn’t see what was happening around her with Jackson. Pushing everyone into the boats, the girl I was holding onto kept crying and crying. The poor little girl couldn’t have been more than four years old.
“Het is goed schat. Het is goed schat. (It’s alright baby. It’s alright baby.)” I kept repeating to the small frightened girl. When Webster jumped into the boat behind me, we started going back to our side. He had his head ducked, as the Krauts kept shooting at the back boat. He had his arms around me when he realized I was shielding a child.
“(Y/n)! What the hell? Why do you have a child?” He yelled out over the gun fire.
“I don’t know! She was in the corner, she’s Dutch!” I replied, still confused as to how she got here and why she wasn’t in the Netherlands. We all ran downstairs, I was still holding onto the little girl, she had come from the Germans territory so I had to stay with her by the other prisoners. Nobody had come up to me about the girl yet so I took this as a time to try to get information so she wasn’t bombarded when adrenaline wore off.
“Wat is je naam? (What’s your name?)” I asked her calmly. She looked up at me with teary dark blue eyes. “Tineke.” She responded in a quiet voice. I was sitting on the floor and I held her so she was only facing me. I could feel someone watching me, but for now I didn’t care.
“Mooie naam! De mijne is (Y/n)! (Beautiful name! Mine is (Y/n)!)” I replied while smiling at her and gently carding my hand through her dark brown strands. Her skin was deathly pale and it was obvious she hadn’t drank or eaten anything in a long time. I gave her my canteen and she took it wearily. She wouldn’t drink it because she was scared of what could be in it. I took it back and took a small sip and gave it back. When she noticed I was okay, she started drinking out of it rapidly.
When she finished drinking, I asked her more questions.
“Spreek je Engels? (Can you speak English?)” I asked her. “Little bit.” She replied hesitantly.
“Very good, mijn liefje! (My love!)” She seemed to smile a little at the name I’d given her.
“Where is your mommy?” I asked slowly. She started to get upset at the mention of her mother but she replied anyway.
“She die. The Duits kill her. I am Joods. They take her and kill my mammie in de camps for Jodens. Then they keep me. (The Germans kill her. I am Jewish. My mommy. Camps for Jews.)” She told me in a somber tone. When she couldn’t think of the right word, she’d just say it in Dutch. I thought about bringing her to Joe later knowing he was Jewish, she might feel comfortable with him.
“You’re safe now, liefje.” I told her while bringing her close to my chest. She ended up falling asleep not even ten minutes later. It gave me time to think about what she had said. She never mentioned a last name which made me believe she didn’t know it. The camp she was talking about was also weird. What did she mean by a camp for Jewish people?
Jackson had died. That boy who’d just turned twenty, had died. He had his whole life ahead and he died in a stupid war. I hadn’t even known him too well, but he just died in front of me, in front of everyone. I was thankful Tineke was asleep as she’d already seen enough.
A day had passed since the patrol. The Germans were taken away and Tineke wouldn’t talk to anyone except me, and occasionally Joe. When Winters had found out about her, he had to ask her questions. I had come with because she couldn’t speak English very well and she refused to go anywhere if I wasn’t with her. The poor girl had been traumatized and it seemed like she’d been like that for a while.
While asking her questions, we found out her family was Jewish, and when the Germans found out, they took her and her family out of their homes to be sent to a camp. She didn’t know much, just that her mother and her got away and when they were found by the two Germans, her mother tried to fight against them resulting in her getting shot. Tineke was then taken as a hostage.
Doc Roe came in to see how she was and it turned out she had been malnourished, and if I hadn’t found her when I did she would’ve been dead. Later that day I took her to the building where the second platoon was located to introduce her.
I walked in and held onto Tine and went upstairs.
“Guys, this is Tineke. She was found in the house with the other POWs and she’s Dutch. She can speak some English, but don’t bombard her.” I spoke when I went upstairs and saw everyone. They all looked at us, and one by one I walked around with her and had her say hi to everyone. When I got to the last person, Joe, I sat down on the bunk with him and had her greet him.
“Tine, why don’t you tell Joe what you are.” I reminded her. I had told her to tell him she was Jewish before we went upstairs.
“Jewish.” Was all she said, nervous and not knowing too much English, she turned her face away into my chest. I rubbed my hand down her knotted, dirty hair realizing she needed a bath.
“Ain’t that cool! I’m Jewish too!” Joe responded in a sweet voice, smiling down at her when she slightly turned her head towards him. Before any more words could get exchanged, Webster came in to break the news that we were to go on another patrol that night and there would be another meeting at 1800. It was currently 1530 so I decided to bring Tineke down to the kitchen sink where I could give her a makeshift bath. I remembered how my mom would do that for me and my siblings when we were little and there were no baths in any of the houses.
I grabbed some soap and put it in her hair while I’d tell her stories to pass the time.
“A long time ago, there were two moons. It was said one of them, named houden got too close to the sun, and out came thousands of dragons.” I told her a story my mother used to tell me all the time.
“Houden? To hold?” She asked as I began rinsing out her hair.
“That’s right. That’s how dragons were born.” I told her. As I finished saying that, another voice piped up from behind me.
“I didn’t know dragons were born from the moon.” Joe came up behind me and waved at Tineke, who brought her hand up slightly.
“That’s because I never told you that.” I said while smiling up at him. He moved to have his arms around my waist and laid his head on my shoulder. I finished rinsing Tine off then I grabbed a towel and wrapped her in it. Nixon had got clothes small enough to fit her from one of his sources. It was a small, black dress with a dark brown fluffy shawl. She also had stockings and tiny boots. When I finished dressing her, I braided up her hair and put on a hat.
At 1800 we all went down to the basement to await Winter’s meeting he called.
“Whatcha lookin’ at Webster.” A drunk Cobb said. I put one of my hands on Web’s shoulder, holding Tineke to my chest as she slept on me, and he turned to give me a smile.
“That’s what I thought, college boy.” Cobb said while swaying lightly on his feet. I gave Cobb a glare and squeezed the hand I had on Web’s shoulder.
“Are you drunk, trooper?” Lieutenant Jones asked him, angrily.
“Leave me alone.” Cobb replied, looking away.
“Answer the question.” Jones said firmly.
“Yes, sir, I am drunk, sir.” Cobb said sassily before adding, “Drunk, and sick and tired of fucking patrols. Taking orders-”
“Hey Cobb, shut up. It’s boring, okay.” Martin cut him off before he could finish what he was saying.
“Taking his side, Johnny?” “Yeah, I am.”
After that shit show I went and sat by Joe, wanting to make sure I wouldn’t be in Cobb’s line of fire in case he decided to throw something.
Winters came in to not only tell us that we didn’t have to go on that patrol, but that we’d also be off the line tomorrow. After he left, everyone started talking, which woke up Tine, who had no idea what was going on, but was happy because everyone else was.
When I went upstairs, Winters was waiting for me.
“Hey, (Y/n).” He said, a bittersweet tone to his voice.
“Hello, sir. Anything I can help you with?” I asked, slightly nervous that he had waited for me.
“It turns out, we found one of Tineke’s family members. Her aunt and uncle. They’re set to come tonight.” He said quietly.
“Oh. Well that’s great!” I smiled slightly, feeling my heart get heavy at the fact that the young girl would be leaving.
“Tine, you hear that? Your aunt and uncle are coming to pick you up.” I told her, looking down at her. She perked up, looking between me and Winters and then she smiled. She smiled bigger than I’d ever seen her smile.
When her aunt and uncle arrived at 2100, Tineke ran up to them and they picked her up. They repeatedly thanked me and Winters and before they left, I gave Tineke a hug and kiss and turned around to walk away. As I did that, I noticed Joe was standing there waiting for me, smiling sweetly at me. We walked away, arm in arm to go back to the house together. The next day, we’d all been sent to the trucks to move to our new location. I was sitting next to Joe, my head on his shoulder as I slept.
We had made it to Germany. The Krauts surrendered and Hitler shot himself. We were finally able to stay in an actual house, with actual baths and actual beds. To us, life couldn’t get any better.
Me and Joe had been sharing a house with Perco and Luz. Frank and George went out to get eggs from a farmhouse a few blocks down so right now it was just me and Joe.
“You excited, doll?” He asked me from the table. I put down one of the wet dishes I was washing, and replied,
“For what Lieb?” “We got through the hard part!” Oh. I hadn’t really thought about that yet.
“Well, yeah, I guess. I’m just scared that I’ll have to go to the Pacific if this war finishes soon.” I replied genuinely.
“Oh don’t worry about that right now.” He said while standing up and coming behind me. I put down the last dish and pulled off the wet, yellow gloves I had on to wash the dishes in.
“Y’know, Perco and Luz just left.”
“I know Liebgott, I’ve got eyes.” I replied, smiling up at him while turning around to face him. He put his hands on the sink behind me and smiled down on me.
“Well if your eyes are any good, then you’ll be able to see how much of a hold ya got on me.” He spoke before closing the distance between us and closing the gap.
I immediately closed my eyes and kissed him back. We slowly pulled apart, and without another word he slammed his mouth into mine. This time, he was much more passionate. His hands wandered down to my waist, and mine went up to his neck and hair. I gasped as he bit my bottom lip, and he snuck his tongue into my mouth. I kissed him back with as much fervor as I could, slightly pulling on his hair without realizing. He moaned into my mouth and the vibrations caused heat to pool in my stomach.
His hands started to roam down my body, causing me to moan as well. He pulled me flush against him and then pulled me up the stairs into one of the rooms I was occupying. I gently sat down on the bed and his fingers went to my uniform top, unbuttoning my shirt.
Perconte and Luz were walking down the trail to the house they were sharing with (Y/n) and Joe, they had eggs to cook up for everyone. When they got inside, they expected to see (Y/n) and Joe downstairs, waiting for them like they had been before.
“Hey, where’d they go-”
“D’you hear that?” George cut Frank off when he heard what sounded like muffled banging from upstairs. The two men immediately smirked at each other, and Luz ran upstairs.
They stopped outside of the door getting ready to knock, when they heard moaning from the other side.
Before Frank could hold George back, he knocked on the door yelling,
“You two better hurry up before me and Perco eat all the eggs!” It was quiet for a moment before Joe shouted out towards the two men,
“Go ahead! I’m eating something way better!”

hi! i really love your writings!
i was wondering if you could make some headcannons for the easy boys breaking down and turning to the reader for comfort after a super hard week.
if you don’t wanna do this one/can’t think of anything, it’s totally fine!
i hope you’re doing well!
This has been sitting in my drafts forever now. I was worried about too many of them being too similar, so I didn't get to everybody. But here are the ones that I had the strongest feelings about:
Dick Winters: Okay, so I feel like maybe Winters doesn't quite reach a breaking point. You can tell that he's stressed and that he's going through a lot, so you let him know that you're here if he needs someone to talk to. It's actually kind of a shock when he comes to you, asking if you have a moment. Really, he just needs to unload, to have someone listen to him. It would be such a relief for him to know he can do that with you, and for you to know that he trusts you enough to confide in you.
Lewis Nixon: Nixon tends to go a different way. When he's stressed or upset, he kind of shuts down, becoming somewhat emotionally unavailable. He knows that he can - and that he should - go to you, but he's worried about how you'll react. When he does turn to you, when you listen to him, comfort him through what he's going through, he feels ten times lighter and ready to take on the world with you by his side.
Ronald Speirs: The rest of the company would probably be shocked if they knew how easily Speirs comes to you. It starts with him resting his head against your shoulder once you're alone together, and then sighing when you run a hand through his hair. He trusts you and knows he's safe, and then confides everything in you. There's not much that can be done to fix the week he's had, but if you just hold him like this, it'll give him the strength to pick himself up and give it another shot.
Carwood Lipton: He's so busy taking care of everyone, but who takes care of him? He's not really one for showing when he's at his limit, so when he comes to you, you know that he's reached a breaking point. Just let him talk it out. Maybe you both come up with a solution for where to go from here. Maybe you don't. He's just thankful for your company as he goes through this.
Babe Heffron: You know in Bastogne, how after Julian's death Babe just sort of . . . shuts down for a bit? That would be him after this week. He's stressed and doesn't really know how to process whatever is going on. When he comes to you, he's probably quiet and careful. But as soon as you see something is wrong, you take his hand, and he feels like he's able to tell you anything.
Eugene Roe: He feels guilty coming to you, because he doesn't want to feel like he's forcing his problems onto you. Once he starts sharing what's wrong, though, it's hard to stop; he didn't realize how much all of this was weighing on him. And when he's done talking, when you hold him and promise him that you'll always be there for him and will help him through it, he's glad that he spoke up.
Bill Guarnere: This boy is gonna hold it all in until he can't anymore - and when he finally breaks, it probably isn't going to be pretty. He doesn't know how to tell you what's wrong, but he decides to try. Some things can't always be fixed; sometimes you just need someone to listen to you. And knowing that he can confide in you makes all the difference to him, even if that's all you can do to help. Now he doesn't have to push himself to the limit anymore, and that makes all the difference.
Joe Liebgott: Listen, I think Joe is better with emotions than we tend to give him credit for. If he's bottling them up throughout the week, it's just because he doesn't want to worry you too much - after all, he loves you, and he doesn't want to feel like he's being a burden. When he finally does turn to you for help, he feels bad the entire time he's explaining his emotions to you. He's going to have to learn that he can open up to you, and this is his first time realizing that he can come to you when he needs to.
David Webster: Either bottles up his emotions until he feels like he's going to explode, or he comes to you the second he feels like he needs to talk things through - there's no in between. This may comes as a surprise, but Webster is a great listener, and if you give him advice or comfort for whatever he's going through, he's going to take it to heart. And he'll always remember how you were there for him.
Thank you for the request, Anon, and I hope you like these! 💕🕊️

Out of the Woods
So finally here is the fic to accompany the Liebgott Taylor Swift moodboard (as seen below) Pairings: Joseph Liebgott x reader. Warnings: swearing, gore (reader is a nurse), war themes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Normandy 1944
Joseph Liebgott had never been the easiest man to get along with, he was stubborn and opinionated and was built like a ticking time bomb, the slightest thing could set him off and that was the mistake Y/n made when she first bumped into him.
“Hey, watch where ya going ya shit head!” Y/n stumbled forward, her threadbare boots scuffing in the mud as she dropped the wooden crate of medical supplies, cursing as the valuable, clean bandages unravelled into the sludgy puddle. The path outside the aid station was a thick mire and often reminded Y/n of the way her father had reminisced about the trenches of the Great War.
“ I should watch where I’m going?” Y/n spat, narrowing her eyes at the paratrooper, “You’re the one who just cost first battalion half of their medical supplies.” Throwing the salvageable bandages back into the box in anguish, the crumpled lumps of clay-coloured cloth were no good now. Y/n wasn’t sure how she was going to break the news to Eugene; the medic wasn’t known for his anger but knowing their situation this would surely push him over the edge.
The paratrooper spun around to face her, his skin pale and dark eyes encircled by purple, “oh so first battalion got their own personal nurse now? No wonder those fuckers are so cheerful,” he sneered, oblivious of the accident he had inflicted and not bother to offer any kind of assistance as Y/n fumbled anxiously for the supplies.
“No, I’m distributing supplies to all the medics in each battalion of Dog, Easy and Fox company actually, but maybe when I find out which battalion you’re from I’ll conveniently skip them,” she snapped back, thrusting the waterlogged box aggressively under her arm, no longer concerned by the trail of sludge leaking down her white apron.
“Good day, Corporal.”
Tumblr media
Holland 1944
The second time they met was no better. Joe had been injured on a patrol and his neck was bleeding profusely through the rudimentary bandage wrapped poorly in a limp scarf.
“Liebgott just let me look at it God dammit,” Y/n reached over, her nimble fingers trying desperately to remove the bandage from his neck but he flinched away. Her fingers barely brushed against the dressing as he shot up from his seat in a receptive, crumbling leather chair situated in the corner of the temporary aid station, having once been someone’s home that now lay abandoned and derelict.
“No, get off me. I don’t need your help. Where’s Doc Roe?” Liebgott snapped, and Y/n sighed elaborately; she was in no mood for this kind of attitude. There were eleven other men in the aid station who would all greatly appreciate being attended too.
“Doc Roe is dealing with other casualties. You got me or nothing.”
Liebgott snorted, “Guess I’ll just bleed to death then.”
Y/n protested but Liebgott had already shouldered his M1 and was making his way towards the entrance.
“Why won’t you just let me look at it?” Y/n hollered, a little louder than she had intended and alerted the other paratroopers.
Joe spun on his heels, his mouth-eaten jump boots, scraping the rough, wooden floorboards.
“I don’t want some woman half-assing a dressing because she wants to be part of the war effort. This is no place for a woman, it is a man's war,” he vituperated her, taking no notice of the stares he was receiving from his friends. “I don’t want your help,” his word was final and his boots were heavy as he departed leaving a deafening silence in his wake.
Tumblr media
“I don’t know what his problem is with me, Gene,” Y/n sighed, as she finished unpacking the fresh medical supplies from one of the many crates from their much-needed supply drop. Her muscles griped, but soon relaxed as she finally took a seat on one of the crates; Y/n had been on her feet all day. “I don’t know why he hates me.”
Eugene's dark eyes followed her movements, sending a sympathetic smile her way as he dropped down beside her on the crates, “Liebgott is a hard man to read, ma Chérie.”
Y/n simpered, the right corner of her lips turning upwards at the nickname. Eugene, with his dark hair and kind eyes, had always been a striking character and the two were of one mind. His friendly but subdued nature seemed to draw people to him, making him a favourite within the company, including with Y/n who despite what other men in the Company thought was always a welcome hand by Eugene’s side,
“I just don’t understand why he hates me.”
“I don’t hate you,” the gruff voice caused the pair to turn; Y/n felt as though she may have whiplash from the speed at which she spun around, concerned by how much he could have heard from their conversation and worried that he would now think she was pathetic, lamenting about trivial problems. Joe, standing in the doorway leaning against his M1, seemed to have not heard the conversation or if he had he never made a comment. Instead, his dark eyes made their way towards Eugene, bloody bandages still pressed against the wound on his neck.
“Are you free to look at my neck now, Doc?” He asked, ignorant of Y/n presence - why should this be any different to any of their previous interactions? He stared blankly at Eugene.
“Sure, Liebgott,” Eugene stood up and moved over to his fellow paratrooper. “Take ya self a seat, I’ll grab ma things.”
Eugene disappeared, his heavy footfalls seemed to echo his departure and was the only sign Y/n needed.
“I’m going to head out, Gene. I’m shattered,” her hands fumbling into her musette bag, hastily stuffing the extra box of syrettes Eugene had given her into the inner pocket. Joe’s eyes seemed to dance after her, an unwanted shadow documenting her every movement. They followed her out of the door and even as her boots squelched unpleasantly down the track, her legs carrying her rapidly away from the watchful eyes. She couldn’t find it in her to turn around, to face him, too afraid of the glare he always sent her way.

Bastogne 1944
The Luftwaffe started dropping bombs around midnight. Y/n with blood encrusted under her short nails, had just finished her rounds, checking on all the wounded soldiers she had patched up during the day. The distinct whistling from above was her first clue that they weren’t going to have a quiet night. Like a deathly siren announcing the beginning of the end. Reneé appeared beside her, anxiety etched on her delicate features.
“We are in for a long night, Y/n. Grab what supplies you can.”
Y/n nodded, hurrying towards the store room when the first bomb whistled down on the church, shaking it from the rafters, dust falling in great clouds from the ceiling.
“Y/n, come quickly. We have to evacuate everyone.”
Along with the other nurses, Y/n helped Reneé evacuate the walking wounded first, sending injured soldiers into the snowy streets of Bastogne. Next came the more severely injured, hauled out on stretchers between two nurses.
“Y/n, stay out here with the wounded, check their wounds. We have to make sure no one has torn any stitches trying to escape. I’m going to try and get some more out,” Reneé called, hurrying back into the crumbling church with several other nurses hot on her heels.
Great flames billowed from the surrounding buildings, the night was ablaze with fire and smoke, and the earth shook with each eruption. Soldiers had started firing the Ack Ack guns at the aircraft above. The noise was deafening, a constant pounding over the top of the whistling bombs and explosions. Y/n could feel her heart pounding, a constant thumping in her ear reminding her that she was miraculously still alive.
The church was struck again and Y/n had to fight the urge to follow her friends into danger, but the wounded soldiers needed her. Lights flashed up behind her, illuminating the terrified nurse and her patients. She turned to see a jeep approaching, a wounded man strapped to the front wailing in agony, thrashing against his restraints. The jeep swerved to a halt and a figure came running towards her.
“EUGENE!” She cried out running to embrace her friend.
“Ma Chérie, are you alright?” Eugene hugged her tightly to his chest. Y/n couldn’t help the tears that began to fall, the growing emotions of the evening finally spilling from within her.
“Gene, Reneé went back inside,” Y/n sobbed, just as the third shell hit the church. They both watched in horror as the front of the church caved in, stone crumbling down into the street and blocking the entrance.
“NOOOO!” Y/n cried, thrashing against Eugene’s arms but he wouldn’t let go.
“No Y/n, please. There is nothing we can do. I can’t lose you too,” he admitted, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead as they shared in their grief.
Tumblr media
Joe sat shivering in his foxhole, the cold seeping into his bones in a way that the winter in San Francisco never could have.
“Hey Joe,” George called out, plonking himself down beside him. “How ya doing?” George shoved his scuffed leather boot against Joe’s clothed leg, prodding him like an impatient child.
Joe turned to him, “How the fuck do you think I’m doing, George? I’m freezing my fucking ass off in the middle of the woods for a CO who can’t even make a decision.”
“Alright, jeez. Sorry for asking,” George raised his hands in surrender. “We just got news from Bastogne.” George began, trying to gauge Joe’s reaction. “It was hit by the Luftwaffe. The aid station… it’s gone.”
“Oh fucking brilliant. Now if we get hit we ain’t got no aid station either.”
George swallowed quickly, “Y/n was in Bastogne.”
Any words Joe had thought of died in the back of his throat. His face went as white as the snow on the ground and he could feel the sweat growing on his palms, his stomach plummeting into his jump boots.
“Is she…?”
“I don’t know, Joe. Doc’s not back yet but I wanted to prepare you in case.”
“In case of what?” Joe snapped, standing from his foxhole and slinging his M1 over his shoulder in anguish. “And why should I care anyway? It’s not like I like her or anything.”
“Fucking hell,” George whispered under his breath. “Joe, when are you gonna grow some balls and admit you’re in love with her. Everyone can see it, including Webster and he’s oblivious to most things.”
It was true George had to spell it out to him back in Holland before he got hit.
“Webster sent a letter to Hoobler the other week asking if you’d finally told Y/n.”
Joe sighed, running his hand over his face, deep in thought.
“Is it really that obvious?”
“Hell yes. I bet even the Krauts on the other side of the clearing can see it.”
Joe nodded slowly, “okay. As soon as I find her I’m gonna tell her.”
George nodded, watching as his friend hurried away to check if Eugene had returned.
“Let’s just hope he’s not too late.”
Tumblr media
Y/n groaned as she straightened her back, stretching after what seemed like hours of bending over to apply dressings, carrying wounded men to transport vehicles, and digging through the rubble to collect supplies. Her friend's bodies had been retrieved from the church and lay in a neat row under rough, army-issued blankets. Y/n couldn’t bring herself to look at them, couldn’t bring herself to accept their fate.
She had seen members of Easy Company coming and going. A few had been sent by Captain Winters to help, bringing with them more wounded paratroopers from the front line. Y/n was too preoccupied to notice the familiar figure approaching her, she didn’t notice until he grabbed her arm firmly and spun her around to face him.
“Liebgott!” She gasped, raising her hand to smack him. “What the hell is your problem? You scared me half to death.”
Joe looked a mixture of shocked and confused until his cheeks grew a bright red.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” He seemed genuinely sorry but Y/n was too consumed by her emotions to think rationally.
“Well you did a darn good job of that didn’t you,” she snapped. “You know if you’re just here to be mean or make some rude comment then you can forget it. I’m not in the mood today. I just lost my friends.” Y/n knew she should not have snapped, it wasn’t Joe’s fault but all the emotions were bubbling up inside her and if she felt anymore pain her heart would burst.
“That’s not why I’m here,” Joe began, he reached forward to take Y/n hand in his own. It was warm, comforting and almost felt familiar, as if he had been holding her hand all their lives. She let him but watched in confusion by this unusual act.
“I’m so sorry about your friends, Y/n. I know this must be difficult for you. I’m here because… well when George told me the aid station had been hit I couldn’t think of anything else than making sure you were okay. Y/n I realised something and…”
“Joe, let me stop you right there. Why would you care if I was okay or not? Joe you hate me… and… and I’ve never understood why?” Y/n sobbed, bringing her hand to cover her mouth, muffling her whimpers into her bloody sleeve. “Why do you hate me, Joe? What did I do wrong?”
Joe’s heart shattered at the sight of the broken woman in front of him. Her shoulders shook violently and tears flowed freely down her dirty cheeks, smudge with ash and mud. She looked frail, weak even and Joe hated that he’d caused it.
“Y/n, I never hated you. Why would you think that?” Joe moved towards her, collecting her hands in his own larger ones once more and rubbing his thumb over her knuckles. “Talk to me, Y/n. Please.”
“Well you always shout at me and… and you wouldn’t l-let me treat your wound and y-you avoid me all the time,” she stammered, looking up at him through tear-filled lashes.
“Oh Sweetheart,” Joe pulled her against his chest, his breath felt warm and tingly against her neck. Y/n had never noticed that he was only slightly taller than her and her head fitted perfectly in the crook of his neck. Her hands wrapped into tight fists against his jacket and she could feel his heart hammering against her hands. “I don’t want you to ever feel like that again.”
“Joe…”
“Shh Mein Liebling, it’s all going to be alright now.”

Y/n had never dreamed that she would get to visit Austria. It seemed as if it was a world away from the likes of Bastogne and the horrors of war. Its tranquil, turquoise lakes and steep mountains with their snow-covered peaks seemed the pinnacle of the landscape. Work had become scarce too, other than the occasional scrape or sprain it had mainly become stock control and arranging supplies to be sent to the Pacific where the fighting had yet to cease. Y/n knew that both herself or Joe could be sent to the Pacific at any time it was inevitable, and neither of them was going to get through the war unscathed.
For now, they were at peace and in the comforts of her room, under clean sheets with her legs tangled in Joe’s and her head resting on his chest, Y/n couldn’t help but feel at peace. The steady thrumming of his heart and the gentle rise and fall of his chest coaxed her too and from sleep in waves. She didn’t want to move, afraid that she would disturb her sleeping paratrooper but at the same time her legs had gone numb hours ago and she could feel the pins and needles begin to prickle their way up her legs.
“Joe?” She whispered, reasoning her hand cautiously to brush a stray brunette lock out of his eyes. Joe’s nose wrinkled and he screwed his eyes shut tighter with a sigh. Y/n smiled as she watched him stir from his slumber. It was one of life’s greatest pleasures to see Joe so relaxed, so at peace even if for just a while.
Joe moaned, his long lashes fluttered against his cheeks before they opened revealing his chestnut orbs.
“Good morning Mein Liebling,” his voice was gruff and sleepy but the smile on his face said that he was more than conscious enough to show his love.
Y/n smiled back at him, “Good morning handsome. How did you sleep?”
“It’s the best night's sleep I’ve had in a while, although I don’t recall much bc sleeping happening.” Joe grinned and Y/n's cheeks grew bright red at the thought of last night’s activity. Glancing around the room there was evidence everywhere. Clothes strewn across the floor, the mirror hung lopsided on the wall, the desk was cleared of any objects and the paper that had once occupied it lay across the carpet.
“I have to admit it’s the most enjoyable night I’ve had in a long time,” Joe admitted, tangling a lock of her hair around his finger.
“Me too,” Y/n admitted and Joe smiled once again.
“What does it mean? Mein Liebling?” Y/n asked, running her fingernails slowly over his exposed chest.
Joe laughed, “my darling. It’s been your nickname for a long time.” He admitted his cheeks rosy and his smile nervous.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, I’ve been calling you that for far longer than you’ve realised. I just didn’t want anyone to realise I was talking about you. Figured the other guys would give me hell about it.” Releasing the lock he’d wrapped around his finger, he sat propped up by his elbows so he could face her.
“Y/n, I need to ask you something and it’d be real nice if your answer was yes.”
Y/n sat up now too, her expression a mixture of anxiety and confusion but the soft smile on her lips encouraged him to continue.
“Y/n will you come home with me, back to Chicago I mean? I can get my old job back at the cab company and we can buy a big house…” he paused a grin spreading across his lips. “A big house with lots of rooms, for all the little Liebgotts we’re gonna be making.”
Y/n laughed, smacking Joe’s arm.
“You’re lucky you’re good looking Liebgott.”
“Am I taking that as a yes?”
“Yes, you can.”
Joe grinned at her, his cheeky little smile followed by a little laugh causing Y/n’s heart to swell beyond what she thought was possible. Wrapped in Joe’s arms in their little room in Austria Y/n realised that maybe they were finally out of the woods.

Querencia ( Joseph D. Liebgott x Reader )
querencia/ kɛˈrɛnθɪə,Spanish keˈrenθja,keˈrensja/
noun ; querencia; plural noun: querencias
Sanctuary.
( POST WAR !!! fluff and maybe a smidge of angst ?)
Tumblr media
01.00 AM.
19th July, 1946, Yuma, California.
1 cup of self raising flour, 1 cup of granulated sugar, equal parts. Wisk together in a bowl, before adding 1 large egg.
Feel free to stir together using your hands.
In a pan, arrange the canned-peach slices, before half of the reserved peach juice on top. After this, apply the doe on top of the peaches. Then drizzle a ½ cup of melted butter.
Bake in a preheated oven for forty five minutes until golden brown, serve with cold ice cream and rest of the peach juice. Easy peasy !
Yeah right.
You sighed irritatedly, eyebrows knit together as you crouched before the oven, one hand on the oven latch, the other holding an oven mitten. You had been sitting there for at least an hour and a half.
You were wearing one of Joe’s shirts, over your nightgown. You pursed your lips together, scowling at the peach cobbler in the oven, which wasn’t even browning. “Come on..” You murmured quietly. You were so caught up in the baking that you hadn’t noticed the door unlocking.
That was until you heard the soft clang of Joe’s cab car keys being thrown onto the table. “Shit-!”
You looked over, confused as you looked up to Joseph Liebgott, your boyfriend. He stared down at you, his surprise slowly morphing into a small smile. “Wasn’t expecting you to be awake, Doll.”
You giggled at that, an excited smile gracing your features as you stood up and jogged to him. A warmth spread through your body as you held him close, pulling him down to litter his face with kisses. “Lots of customers ?” You asked, between kisses. His lopsided grin surfaced, chuckling as he leaned into the kiss. “ Mhm, drove ‘round half the fuckin’ city swear to god.”
“The real question is,” He began, hand trailing down to the curve of your waist. “ What are you doing up ?” He jokingly poked at your side, earning a small sigh and downwards turn at your lips. “I wanted to try the recipe for Peach Cobbler.. kind of a lost cause though.”
A hoarse, tired chuckle left his lips, shaking his head as he pressed a kiss to your head. “What’s the occasion ?”
You tensed up a little, clearing your throat as you looked to the oven. Your lips parted, taking a soft inhale before speaking. “ Next saturday, you know .. that reunion in indianapolis ?”
Joe didn’t look at you, his lips pressing into a thin line as he looked to the wall. You softly moved your hand up to his cheek, gently rubbing it with the pad of your thumb. “ It’s been a year since we last saw them .. and I know Webster came to visit us last february but you know that doesn’t count.”
Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to bring it up after his long shift, but he asked, and you had no intention of hiding things from him.
You caught on on how his jaw clenched, eyes trained on the tiles of the kitchen wall. You would have preferred screeching of fingernails on chalk than the deafening silence. After several moments of this, he licked his lips, voice quiet.
“I just..”
You looked up to him.
“I just can’t do it, Doll..”
You felt your heart clench. He didn’t sound hurt, he didn’t sound mad or anything. He just sounded so discouraged. The way his words died on his tongue, how he couldn’t meet your eyes.
“Oh Joe..”
You cooed, your hand moving up to his hair as you tugged him into a warm embrace. It didn’t take long for him to melt into your glow. His arms sneaked around your waist, burying his face into the crook of your neck. He didn’t cry, Liebgott rarely cried. He just savored the moment. The smell of your hair, as well as the light scent of artificial peach and flour. One hand moved to cradle your head, as his eyes closed. The gentle tugging at the roots of his hair, the soft tracings you drew on his back, it was his sanctuary.
“My darling, we don’t have to do anything. We don’t, we can just rest.” You’d say, your voice muffled by the material of his shirt. He didn’t really respond, just a quiet hum resonating through his body.
The two of you stood there for several minutes, until you reluctantly pulled away. You looked up at him, the soft smile on your lips never faltering as you intertwined your hands. “ Let’s get you some sleep, hm ?”
He nodded.
“The rocket’s empty- I’ll try the atom load of this ray gun.” You read, your voice saccharine and honey like as you read of the comic book strip. Both of your backs were pressed against the wall, Joseph’s arm around your shoulders as you read to him. His head was resting on yours, half-lidded eyes following the comic drawings as you read.
It only took fifteen minutes before the book was tucked away in a drawer, the lights off and blanket pulled over you two. Joe lay behind you, his body pressed up to yours with his arms holding you around the torso.
“Y/N ?” He interrupted the silence, and you hummed quietly, eyes still closed.
“ I just .. well..”
You shifted slightly, turning to face him. One hand moved to rest on his cheekbone, eyes opening slightly.
“If you want to go to the reunion, you should.” Your eyebrows knit together, slowly adjusting to the light as you spotted his warm eyes.
“What ?”
He nodded, shuffling closer to you. “I don’t know if I’m ready to see any of those bucks again.. But, they were your team too.” You looked at him with a small, small smile as you nodded. “But- Joe, you know you don’t have to-”
“I know.”
You shut up, thumb tracing patterns against his jaw. He continued speaking.
“But.. Well, if you need a ride to Indianapolis, I’ll be there. ”
Your lip curled up into a teasing smile. “You’re saying I'll get a free cab ride ?”
“Hey, I ain’t saying anything about it being free, I just said if you need a ride.” He countered, gently squeezing your side with a chuckle. Your laughter is harmonious to him, as he closes his eyes and smiles.
Your laughter died down, your chest fluttering. “Hey..” You’d say, quietly. You moved closer, pressing a warm kiss to his lips. Sure, Joe was tired, but he kissed you back, with as much love and eagerness as he always did. You mumbled a soft “thank you.” to his lips.
He just shook his head, and tugged you closer to him, the sound of traffic rumbling from the balcony of your apartment.
( THIS ISN'T PROOF READ SO PLAY NICE !!! I love domestic joe : ( he's my baby boy. It's post-war, if it wasn't clear enough- uh yeah hope you guys enjoy xoxo !!!!!!)

Angel, with the gun in your hand,
pointing my direction, giving me affection
Joe had been taken immediately by the new female replacement that walked through the pub door that night, a look of awe crossing his face as she sauntered in, flashing a smug smirk at all of the men who watched her with shock. Most of them had met the woman prior to her appearance at their usual drinking spot in Aldbourne but most had not wrapped their heads around it all, especially when the military grade skirt distracted them from processing anything.
Y/N wandered slowly over to a table that sat Guarnere, Toye and Babe after grabbing a drink from the bar, jumping into a conversation with them immediately after pushing herself under Babe’s arm. The two were close after training together for so long, their friendship staying sound after their combined placement into Easy company. Babe had made quick friends with Bill Guarnere and with that came the acceptance of the woman into the man’s good books before she had even been fully introduced to him. Joe Toye had been hesitant about Y/N but took to her quickly after watching her smack the attitude out of a private from Fox company who had spoken down to her, the two clicked instantly after that.
The group of mix and match soldiers at the table grew as the night went on, men coming and going to converse with her as she accepted drink after drink, mostly thanks to George Luz and Floyd Talbert. The original four of them sat together laughing like old friends reunited, with Babe blushing while under the scrutiny of Bill when asked why he friend-zoned such a darling dame such as Y/N. The woman in question smirked into her drink while watching him glance at her for help before deciding to tease the poor boy.
“Why did you decide to do that Babe? Damn near broke my heart.” He shot her a pointed look after she said it, giving her a gentle squeeze to the waist.
“You’re a piece of work.” He muttered to her.
It was between these comments being passed around that she had caught a pair of eyes watching her from the corner of the bar, with his companion, Skinny Sisk, failing to turn his eyes away from the woman no matter how much he tried to. She turned away, taking another sip of her drink, once again hiding her smirk before she made direct eye contact with Toye, who licked his tongue over his lips while he sent her a sly smile. She squinted her eyes at hi teasingly to which he just raised an eyebrow in question. The woman shrugged, taking another quick glance over to see Liebgott was still watching her in interest. Toye and Y/N silent conversation went unnoticed by the others, who were too busy seeing Babe turn more red by the second as Bill hounded him with vulgar questions.
The night continued on like this for a while, and aside from the dance or two that Y/N shared with Luz, the woman barely left her seat, so engrossed in the atmosphere she was enjoying. The rush of alcohol hadn’t taken over her completely but it certainly made her feel good as she chatted happily to the men before her. It was in that moment that she’d been talking animatedly to Tab that she saw Liebgott over the man’s shoulder. She nodded her head as if she was listening to the Kokomo boy when really her focus had been on the man behind him. Their gazes met for a moment, enough time for her to send a smirk his way before he slipped out the door. The woman turned back to Tab before politely excusing herself for some ‘fresh air’.
The cool english air hit the exposed skin on her neck as soon as she left the comfort of the bar causing a shiver to trail her spine. It was mostly dark outside aside from a flicker of flame that came from beside her, her eyes curiously turning to the figure she knew was there.
“Are you going to continue watching me for the rest of the night or will you be finding the balls to come and talk to me?” Y/N spoke so confidently, yet the darkness shrouded the smirk that fell on the man’s lips in that moment.
“Trust me darlin’, I ain’t needing to find no balls. I haven’t lost ‘em you see. You can even check if you want?” The woman let out a quiet snort which led to Joe letting out an amused huff.
“That was bad.” She replied, stepping towards him while lighting her own cigarette. The man inhaled while nodding his head, sticking the unoccupied hand in his pocket.
“Yeah it certainly wasn’t my best.” He said with a chuckle. She smiled at him then, no longer a sly smirk but more an amused curl of her lips.
“Give me another one then.” The man looked as pensive as he could before a yawn suddenly escaped his mouth, the hand holding his cigarette moving to cover it. Y/N raised an eyebrow at him, amused by what she thought was his lack of focus on her.
“Tired already? Or is my presence boring you?” She teased.
“Nah, it’s not you doll-face. You see I’ve been having trouble sleeping recently.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, can’t sleep by myself you see. Maybe you could sleep with me?” Joe said before looking up at her, his eyebrows raised as he waited for her consensus.
“Ah, you had me there for a minute.”
“Was it better though?” He pushed, bumping his hip into hers while she took a drag of her smoke.
“Eh, it wasn’t the worst I’ve heard.”
“Damn, the lady has high standards.”
“No, not high standards, just lots of experience.” Y/N said with a unbothered shrug.
“Maybe you’d like to share some experience with me?”
“That one was a little better.” She said while laughing, causing the man to look at her with his own genuine smile.
“I’ll be here all night.” He exclaimed, giving a small bow for effect.
“Or you could be in my bed all night?” She threw his way, her lips pursed to withhold her smirk.
“Oh, we have a competition here?” His smirk widened across his face as he pulled the cigarette away from his face, dropping it to the ground to smoulder.
“As I said, lots of experience.” She replied, a smirk rivalling his growing over her lips. Joe shook his head in amusement before moving to stand directly before her, his warm breath making her cold cheeks tingle.
“Well doll-face, me and you are definitely gonna get along.” He flashed her a wink before stepping towards the door of the pub once more. He turned to glance at her over his shoulder as he realised she hadn’t moved from her spot. “Coming?”
Love is fatal,
won't you give it a chance?
Y/N clutched the letter between tense fingers, her nails slowly tearing into the paper as a sneer made it’s way to her blue lips. Another day, another letter from her mother, and another from her father. Seperate letters from seperate people yet holding almost identical messages. There was no questions of how she was, where she was, what she’d been up to. She was great by the way, freezing her ass off in a blizzard of a forest with the constant blasts of artillery blowing the trees to smithereens, thanks for asking. Hell, she would have been happier to recount every gruesome and traumatising kill she’d made since dropping into the war in intense detail than have to reply to them regarding their problems.
Your mother did this again; I wish i’d never met him; She’s getting on my last fucking nerve; He’s the worst man i’ve ever met; She’s lucky I go away so often on business trips; Business trips my ass, he’s still cheating so i’ll be sure to do the same; Nasty piece of work she is; He’s lucky his money is more attractive than he is.
An aching pain enveloped her chest, causing her to bite into her lip to hold back the emotions that threatened to spill from her eyes. She could never understand it, why a child should have to listen to the immaturities of their parents who were in no means compatible, it wasn’t like she’d asked for them to birth her in a bid to save their already abysmal marriage. Fat lot that did anyway. She was the kid for fuck sake, so why must she be the one that has to baby them.
Her parents had always been like this; jealous, spiteful, childish people. Once she had believed it had been her fault, maybe her appearance on the family tree had caused a rift between them. Now she knew that wasn’t the case, especially after the history lessons from extended family members that they’d always been like that, they were just heedless to one another; always had been, always would be. The question had been asked so many times, whispers in the dark of why they even bothered to stay if it wasn’t working. There were two reason for this, one from each side and sadly neither being her. Her mother was a beautiful woman, covered in beautiful garments, driving beautiful cars, seen at only the most beautiful of places; beautifully expensive. Her father was a successful man, with a successful job, a successful marriage and a successful reputation; a successful lie. Her mother was greedy, money hungry and spiteful while her father was envious, power hungry and short tempered. The money was enough for her mother to stay and the dazzling reputation with the chance to be dominant was enough for her father.
Now don’t go getting her wrong, her parents weren’t bad people, mostly. They both had many redeeming qualities, ones that seemed to shine through in their daughter, however, the bad qualities just happened to be seen more commonly from her point of view. They did love her underneath all of that malice. She often asked how she, herself, could be so selfish as to think her life was hard when they’d given her a home, all the clothes and trinkets she’d asked for, and paid for an expensive private school. Some may have looked at this with raised eyebrows and questioned whether that was for her or for their reputation, however, Y/N would continue to turn a blind eye, refusing to tarnish the views she had of her parents more than they already do themselves. They’d given her everything she’d ever asked for except for one thing; a loving family. They gave her a home but it was broken, spoilt her with things but they were meaningless, given her an education many would kill for but it was pointless. They were selfish, and they always would be. They may have loved her but they loved themselves more.
Y/N had woken up to this now, no longer pulling a cover over her eyes in hopes she could keep the good parts of her parents and ignoring the bad. Now, she had her own feeling of malice. Her upper lip twitched as she let the anger take over, grasping at the top of the paper with both hands and tearing it down the middle. She continued to rip the letter until it was just tiny pieces in her palms, letting it blow away with the wind that swept past her with a huff of resentment. She’d gone so long pretending things were okay in hopes they would be eventually, but she had grown up now, seeing death and war and hatred on a scale she never thought she’d ever have to. Growing up wasn’t a choice here, it was a requirement; just another condition of war.
“Can practically see the steam coming outta your ears, must be a hot mess up in that head of yours.” Came a voice from behind her, a pair of boots coming to a halt at the edge of the dug in pit.
“You know me Joey, just fighting the enemies in my brain the same as I do in the field.” She teased with a smirk, trying to throw him off asking further as to her sudden burst of rage. He rolled his eyes at her, knowing her enough to know what she was doing, dropping down into the frozen foxhole beside her and pulling her into his side. Her eyes stayed on the line, yet her rifle lowered as she let herself slip under his arm for a bit of warmth and comfort.
“What’s eatin’ yah doll?” He muttered into her hair, her eyes unseeing to the way he looked down at her with such adoration.
“The less you know the better.” She hadn’t meant the comment in anyway against him, quite the opposite actually yet the words seemed to sting like salt in a wound. A part of her was trying to protect him from the absolute chaos of her broken family, but all he could hear was a woman in refusal of his care. He ran his tongue across his teeth, holding himself back from snarking something at her like he usually would to anyone else. The problem was that she wanted him to say something, anything to ease her aching chest, however both seemed to be met with disappointment. They’d continued to sit there together, pressed against one another for just a little bit of heat while they both found themselves lost in their own thoughts; her about her fucked up family and him about the woman snuggled against his side.
Center of attention,
don't you ask me any questions
The fight in Foy had been rough and though it had rewarded them with the show of a new CO in Captain Speirs, it had also taken from them several casualties, one of which was Y/N. It hadn’t been a big deal compared to others but the ricochet wound to the shoulder and bullet graze to the neck had the woman cursing the most colourful words as she shoved herself to the wall of a building, away from sight of the sniper.
The aid station had been worse than the pain of her wounds. The cries of dying men calling from their mothers, the squelching of blood as nurses were stuck up to their elbows in someone’s torso to pinch an artery, and the mumbled prayers to God to save the men who were honestly already too far gone made up a harmonious symphony of pain and suffering. A sour taste invaded Y/N’s mouth as she sat there getting her wounds wrapped, her eyes travelling over as many of the men around her as she could before settling on the nurse in front of her. She was beautiful, and aside from the dirt, grime and blood that covered certain parts of her skin and uniform, the woman had looked like an angel sent from the heavens. Y/N had watched her closely as she worked on mending her injured shoulder, whispering sweet nothings into her ear as she’d winced in pain. She had imagined the feeling of this woman being her mother, caring, tentative, gentle, throwing her own mind into a world completely made up to ease the pain that plagued her mind.
Y/N returned to her company the three days later after an argument with the same nurse she’d watched with awe. She fought with her words rather than her rifle but fight she did to be let go from the aid station, using the point that if she was able to stand, move, and grasp at things without difficulty and only a little pain than she was simply a wasted body taking up a bed needed for someone else. The nurse had pursed her lips with an angry huff and shake of her head before storming off, letting the woman walk off with a smirk on her face. That was more like the actions of the mother she knew.
She looked on as the trucks pulled up in the distance before her, a smile rising to her lips as she caught sight of her platoon jumping from them. She spotted Joe and Babe chatting to one another and sighed in relief about her best two boys being safe before jumping from the jeep that had pulled up behind the line of four wheelers. The urge to run to the two men had filled her but she held herself back and focussed on her mission to find Winters or Speirs and inform them of her inevitable return.
The woman made her way into the building that had been pointed out to her to be headquarters, her feet stomping against the wood to rid herself of the icy snow that caked itself to her boots as she entered. Three familiar faces were present in the room she walked into, as well as one unfamiliar one.
“Lip, I told you those cigarettes were going to catch up to you.” Y/N teased as she witnessed the man hack up the mucus from his lungs, moving to him to gently pat his back and run her fingers through his slightly damp hair. He smiled up at the woman, pulling her onto the couch beside his legs to keep her down.
“Very funny Y/N. Now what the hell are you doing back here? You should be at the aid station.” He replied, his voice tired and husky. She shrugged her shoulders, wincing as she forgot about the stitched wound on one before tucking Lip in with the blanket Luz had just placed over the man’s body.
“Nurses said I had to come back and look after my boys before they lost it without me. Though in all honesty, George looks like he’s taken the mantle of ultimate mother hen in our absences.” The man in question raised his hand with a smile from the small kitchenette attached to the room where he had been making Lip a coffee.
“Just making sure you didn’t have a bigger mess to come back to Y/N.”
“How very thoughtful of you sweetheart.” She flashed him a cheeky grin before her eyes moved to the two other figures in the room, her expression dropping slowly.
“Hey Web, long time, no see.” The man nodded at her while replying with a greeting of hello, his eyes looking towards the Lieutenant who stood abnormally upright in the corner, her gaze following. The officer had already been staring at the woman in a well-hidden look of shock or awe, she didn’t know. A small smirk overtook her lips as she eyed him up and down, standing slowly with a hand outstretched.
“You must be the new lieutenant, pleased to meet you Sir.” She almost purred, trying to rile up the fresh meat for a little bit of entertainment. He seemed to stand even straighter as he took her hand, shaking firmly while discreetly trying to figure the woman out with his eyes. He went to open his mouth to reply only for their CO to saunter in, his gaze finding her immediately. Speirs sighed, stopping before her.
“You just can’t stay away can you.”
“You can take the woman out of the war but can’t take the war out of the woman Sir.” He shook his head with the faintest of smirks before nodding towards the door.
“Head back to second, i’m sure they’ll be happy to have you back.”
“Yes Sir.” She said with one final salute before heading towards the door, but not without a last smirk at the new kid, who watched her until she had completely disappeared. Lipton and Luz made eye contact, both with looks of amusement, with Speirs glancing at the two before following their moving gazes to the man. A smirk drew to his lips as he clicked to his eyes following the woman, opening his mouth to voice his thoughts.
“She will eat you up and spit you back out lieutenant. Best not to go there.”
The woman had made it to second platoon’s housing without an issue, ignoring the sound of explosions that weren’t close enough to disrupt her. Following the voices she could hear, she trailed up the stairs, wandering into the room with one shoulder pulled back slightly more than the other as she tried to square them off with confidence. A quiet snort left her nose as she listened to some of the men in a playful argument about who knows what before stepping towards them, unnoticed.
“Ladies, ladies, you’re all pretty, now stop arguing.” She exclaimed causing all the men to turn to her, smiles tugging to their lips as they moved towards her, each with something different to say.
“AYE, she’s back from the dead.”
“How was your vacation sunshine?”
“Looks like you forgot to rest up during your stay at the day spa.”
The woman chuckled at their words before she was cut short by someone tugging her into their arms, careful of her injuries. She inhaled his scent immediately, relaxing under his arm yet her eyes were held squinted over his shoulder at the men behind quietly snickering to themselves. She sent them all a warning with her gaze while he pulled away from her, her expression changing to a dazzling smile as soon as he could see her face once more.
“You miss me Joey?”
“Piss off doll-face, you know I did.” He replied with a snarky tone but the smile on the corner of his lips said otherwise about his mood. She just looked back at him with a sly tilt of her lips that could rival even his infamous smirk.
“I certainly do.”
Go on and light me like a cigarette,
even if it might be something you regret,
you got me now, now, now,
swallow me down, down, down, down
The new officer had been in Liebgott’s bad books as soon as he’d wandered up the stairs behind Webster. His constantly straying gaze would find the only woman in the room a little too often for Joe’s liking, leading him to hold a unwavering sneer on his face for the rest of the day. His bad mood had impacted everyone, except Y/N of course, with his snarky comments and biting looks giving them a heads up to not push him any further. This lieutenant, however, did not know the solider enough to be able to read the expression of aggravation upon his face.
Y/N had picked up on the pair of eyes that watched her, a tell tale sign being the smirk that barely left her lips, this sending an even deeper feeling of resentment through Joe’s body. There hadn’t been any meaning behind her previous look at the new kid, it was more of a sizing up of what she had to work with. She had simply been playing a game, no harm done, aside from the fact that there had, in fact, been some harm done.
Joe had trudged back up the stairs after being dismissed from the patrol across the river in favour of Webster, his mood boosted just the slightest. Y/N had been propped up on a bed upstairs, book in hand as she had been ordered to rest by the extremely persistent Doc Roe. She jumped when Joe threw himself down beside her, so engrossed in the words on the page before her to realise he’d arrived.
“Hey Joey, what’re you doing back here so soon? Thought they needed you for prep for tonight’s patrol?” The man laid his chin on the woman’s shoulder as she asked, his eyebrows knitting together as he tried to understand the words splayed in the book before him.
“Hm? Oh they don’t need me anymore. Looks like you don’t get any ‘me time’ after all. Yah stuck with me for the night.”
“Oh how very disappointing.” She teased. He let out a huff as he side-eyed her over her shoulder. The woman’s mind reeled as she pretended to read her book, her thoughts of the man beside her clearly being pissed at the new kid, and all the reasons that could be for. She made up her mind in that moment, her eyes squinted as she chose her words carefully.
“I would have loved to spend some one on one time with the greenie in all honesty. That’s a shame.” She tested teasingly, but Joe’s eyes had turned dark immediately, his lips twitching to hold back the sneer that threatened to come back.
“Oh yeah? What’s so interesting about him anyway?”
“Hm, well he’s an officer, a man with power is pretty attractive. He’s got such dreamy eyes too, he really has me blushing any time i catch him staring. And oh my goodness he’s clean and doesn’t smell like shit like the rest of you sorry sods.” The man’s face slowly relaxed as he realised she had been playing with him, rolling his eyes before giving her a gentle shove to her uninjured shoulder.
“You’re such a little tease.” He muttered as he looked down at the woman who’d let her body fall to the bed dramatically as if he’d pushed her much harder. She turned her eyes to him as he made the comment, the slyest of smirks slinking to her lips.
“You haven’t seen nothing yet Joey.” His eyebrows raised at this while discreetly gulping down words he would love to say to her in that moment. His mind tried desperately to capture the imagine of the woman in front of him, her hair splayed out around her like a halo, a cheeky smile pulled to her lips. She watched him carefully, trying to gauge where his head was at as she seemed to lose him for a minute or two. “Joey? Come back to me honey.” She said while sitting up, her face close to his as her eyes wandered his face. He blinked several times, clearing away the haze of his thoughts only to realise how close she had gotten to him.
Her breath had hitched slightly while their eyes stayed locked, both with pupils blown. He leant down so suddenly to capture her lips that she barely had a chance to react when he pulled away again, his eyes asking if this was okay. She was the one to initiate the second kiss, her hands moving to grasp at his neck to pull him to her, their lips meeting harshly. They lay there for a minute, melting together in their own little world. She had stopped herself short then, her bottom lip grazing his when she pulled back as they stared at each other with wild eyes. I am so going to regret this.
I only light up when cameras are flashing,
never enough and no satisfaction
got no shame,
I love the way you're screaming my name
The room felt significantly warmer than she was used to as she let out another breathy sigh. Her skin was slightly damp, hair sticking to her forehead while she withered under his touch. His fingers had gripped so tightly at her hips that bruises were sure to form, holding her to the bed as she so desperately tried to grind herself forwards to where his head had been tucked in between her thighs. He worshipped the woman, praying to her on his knees like she was a god, her moaning becoming more frequent and higher in pitch as he did.
“JOE!” She screamed his name as she reached her peak, a sharp inhale sounding as her back arched, ignoring the slight pain that she could feel in her shoulder while it pressed into the bed as it added more to the sensations she was feeling. She threw her head back against the mattress, her eyes screwing shut in pure bliss. He had smirked from his place still between her legs while watching her wriggle under his grasp, a proud look on his features. A woman like her deserved only the best, so his best is what he gave her.
Y/N came down from her high slowly, her breath becoming more regular before her eyes finally opened again. She had glanced down to him just in time to see him wipe his thumb across his lips before taking it in his mouth, sucking it clean. Her stomach clenched hungrily before she leant forward to grab him by the front of his neck, tugging him to her lips. Neither were gentle with each other as their tongues fought harshly against one another. Joe had groaned at the thought of her tasting herself on his lips as his own hand came to grab at her throat. Her naked body lay below the man, the only thing between them being the pair of pants that he had yet to take off himself. Her hands had crept slowly down his body before one slipped under the waistband of the fabric keeping them apart, his breath catching in his throat as she took ahold of him.
Joe hadn’t been patient, and as soon as her hand had come in contact with him, he had jumped back, ripping the clothes from his body before pressing back against her, completely nude. Y/N moaned as his hardened cock had come in contact with her core, quiet begging leaving her mouth shortly after. The man smirked down at her, his eyes softening at the beauty that was this woman, her pretty pink lips pleading for him to take her. She reached up again, wanting the feeling of his lips on hers once more while her legs moved to wrap around his hips, opening herself up to him fully. They had let out simultaneous moans, and Joe a following curse, as he eased his way into her, hands moving to cup at her breasts, squeezing like his life depended on it. His head came down to rest on her collarbone, her hands moving to the hair on the back of his neck as they sat for a moment, both getting use to the feeling of each other.
“Look so pretty underneath me doll. Taking me so well.” He managed to mutter into her shoulder as he began to thrust carefully, using her face as a gauge of how hard he could push. A curse left her lips, followed shortly by a moan, her mouth hanging open in pleasure causing Joe’s eyes to roll back into his head as he bit at her uninjured shoulder.
The room echoed with the sounds of heavy breathing and his hips meeting hers as he became relentless, pushing in and out of her with so much power it was almost on the verge of pain. She had relished in the feeling though, her fingernails running down his back harshly as she tried to pull him as close as possible.
“Fuck Joey.” Y/N mumbled into his ear, his lips pulling to a smirk as his name left her lips so lustfully.
“Say it again Y/N.”
“Hm?” Was all she could say as it mixed with a moan.
“I want you to say my name again. Scream it.” He said with a particularly harsh thrust, her breath catching in her throat half way through her inhale. A whine left her lips as she proceeded to do as she was told, letting his name tumble from her mouth in between senseless moans as she found herself growing closer and closer to her high. He groaned greedily at the sound, while savouring the feeling of her beginning to clench around him. His hand came to rest back over her throat as he lowered his face to her, pressing a firm kiss to her lips. “Such a good girl for me.” He whispered against her mouth to which she just replied with a whimper and a soft bite to his lower lip. He smiled down at her as he pulled away, his thumb moving from her jugular to her lower lip.
They had both passed the point of sweaty as the air around them hung with moisture. Joe had felt it as she neared her peak, her body clenching so deliciously around his cock as he continued to pound into her. He whispered to her for her to cum for him while his unoccupied hand moved to rub at her clit. His head had thrown back at the same time as her as he felt a shudder ripple through her body accompanied by a loud scream of his name as she had before. His hips had stuttered while he felt her come undone for him, as he too reached his high, pulling out to release on her breasts.
Y/N had been the first to come down from her high as she opened her eyes to see Joe fallen beside her, breathing heavily. She had reached over to the floor, picking up the dirty tshirt she had replaced that day with a new uniform, and using it to wipe down her chest. She placed herself back down beside the man as he came back to earth, his eyes turning to meet hers.
“You, Joey, are one hell of a man.” They smiled at each other before a giggle left her lips as he grabbed her, pulling her to his chest.
“Only for you doll.” He’d mumbled and if she hadn’t have already been so tired from their previous activities, she might have let herself be worried about the sentiment that came with that comment but instead decided to ignore the weird feeling in her stomach. They lay there for several hours, naked bodies pressed to one another as they basked in the feeling of warmth and satisfaction. Joe had watched her as she fell asleep, her head tucked away in his neck while her breath tickled his chest. He had pressed a delicate kiss to her head as he felt himself beginning to slip away; oh how she had caught this man in her web.
Diggin' my grave to get a reaction
changing my face and calling it fashion
got no shame,
I love the way you're screaming my name
Second platoon were finally given some form of respite for a fleeting moment when they arrived to Germany as the trucks drove along the road to their new location. Joe and Y/N sat pressed against one another, exchanging amused small talk and making fun of Webster who sat on the opposite side of the man. The man in question rolled his eyes dramatically before turning to Perconte beside him and muttering a frustrated ‘there’s fucking two of them’, to which they traded similar smirks of entertainment.
It was when Joe begun talking to Webster about home that Y/N felt herself shrivel up into herself, dismay making a home under her skin. She tried her best to listen while pushing to suppress the feelings that welled up inside her, yet her ears seemed to subconsciously pick up on a piece of conversation leaving Joe’s mouth.
“-then i’m gonna buy a house, a big house, for all the little Liebgott’s we’re gonna be making.” Her stomach seemed to twist with something she couldn’t quite understand at that comment, a strange sense of envy of someone who was but an idea in Joe’s current life. She racked her mind for reasons as to why she was so uneasy, flashes of her parents coming to mind. Memories of the jealousy fuelled fights emerged in front of her, painting a saddening story of two people who shouldn’t be together, thus sending a spike of worry to snake its way to her heart.
He glanced at her after the words left his mouth yet she seemed completely oblivious and stuck in her own head, an action not missed by Webster as he lowered his head to smirk at the two. Joe’s look of longing had quickly turned to a look of concern as he watched her brows crease in confusion and a flicker of something sad seemed to dull her eyes for a moment. An idea made its way to his head while a smile suddenly rose to Joe’s lips as he reached out, proceeding to grab her gently by the waist, his fingers wiggling. A surprised screech left her lips as the tickling sensation began, her mind leaving its tunnel visioned scene to pull her harshly back to reality. She swatted at his hands but he was relentless as laughter filled the air from the both of them, though hers had been forced from her in the cruelest of ways.
“JOE!” Y/N yelped through choked laughter as his fingers dug into her sides, her body jerking to get away from the man and his tickling hands. She pushed herself away from him, trying to jump across the truck towards Luz only to be pulled once again into his arms. More laughter came from her lips as tears began to fall from her eyes, her sides aching from how much she had been giggling. “JOE! HA! STOP! I’M CRYING.” The sound of the man in question chuckled in amusement, causing most of the men to look at the two with sly smirks while others, like Webster, rolled their eyes with expressions of frustration, hiding the delight they had from the two’s laughter. He called to them, causing them to pull away from one another as he asked for a timeout. Joe sent one last poke into the woman’s side before pulling himself back to his seat, his eyes never leaving her figure. She glanced at him with squinted eyes, recovering her breathing slowly while sending a swift smack to the side of his head. Joe laughed as his head turned from her for second before he came right back, his eyes glistening with an unspoken mirth.
“You are a pain in the ass.” Y/N mumbled, crossing her arms in front of her with a pout while looking away from the man.
“Awh, don’t be like that doll.” He replied, sending a gentle poke to her cheek. Joe continued this to the point of annoyance when she finally threw her hand up to smack his hand away with a hiss. He laughed again, causing a warm feeling to swell in her chest, the smallest of smiles tugging on her lips as she tried desperately to stay looking mad. He caught the look, regardless of her attempt to cover it, his arm throwing itself over her shoulder before pulling her to his chest, exclaiming a loud ‘mwah’ as he pressed a kiss to her hair. “You fucking love me, don’t deny it.” He meant it as a tease, yet the immediate seizing up of her muscles and the shoot of discomfort in her stomach showed she’d caught more in the words. A sense of bitterness crept up in her spine at the sentiment, yet her body fought with her mind to let his arm stay where it was. Don’t tell me not to deny it, because I will.
Lay me in the palm of your hand,
I'll give you my permission,
you'll always be forgiven
Austria was beautiful; the scenery, the peace and quiet, but most importantly to the men was the women. The trucks had pulled in that day, driving past several local women who stood smiling brightly, as if the sun was projecting light from their glowing faces. Y/N felt the discomfort settle even deeper in her stomach, much stronger than it had earlier on the trucks, her mind throwing insults at her, comparing their fresh faces and softly flowing hair to her constantly grimy cheeks and lost cause of a hairdo. The feeling only grew as she watched Joe holler loudly at them as the other men were, a sly smirk on his lips.
The woman was almost at a breaking point, the confusion, frustration, jealousy, dismay, and sadness constantly setting such an unknown and uncomfortable feeling in her body. And yet, it was the added confusion, joy, comfort, pleasure, and warmth that made her feel even worse, like fuel thrown over wood to start a fire; and Joe Liebgott was the fucking match.
Joe’s head had whipped around to make a snarky comment at the woman but he stopped short seeing the look that covered her features. He watched her for a minute, taking note of the tension in her jaw, the way it clenched and relaxed every few seconds, as well as the way her teeth chewed on her bottom lip. The smallest of smiles accompanied with a the common look of adoration covered the man’s face again as his eyes never left the plumpness of her lips.
“Don’t look at me like that.” She muttered lowly, Joe’s brows creasing in confusion at the statement. She had glanced at him while he was lost in his own world, admiring the way she looked while thinking, and recognised the way he was gazing at her all starry eyed. It scared her, feeling like an unnecessary punch to the gut.
“Look at you like what?” He asked, his eyes swimming with concern and confusion yet an undertone of pure adoration flickered the longer he stared at her. She clenched her fists by her side, trying to ease the tension she felt building in her as she swallowed the need to just grab him by the shoulders and yell at him to stop.
“Like that.” She replied after a gulp, her head nodding towards him as she did.
“I’m just looking at you Y/N. I’m confused.”
Go on, replace me,
when you're craving something sweeter
than the words I left in your mouth,
go on and spit me out
The local Austrian bar half the company found themselves in that afternoon while off duty was a warm comfort unlike any place they’d seen in recent months. The liquor flowed plentifully down the throats of many of the joyful men that sat talking to one another, their eyes following the figures of several women who had come to say they’d been smiled at by the American soldiers. Y/N perched herself on a stool beside Grant, and previously Floyd who had left them to flirt with a local girl, as they chatted animatedly while sharing a pint, smiles never leaving their faces.
Y/N’s gaze fell over the environment with a look of curiosity at the idea of the oncoming peace that swept over everyone before it had even arrived. Her eyes  strayed several times to the man seated by Skinny and Webster by the window, painting a similar scene of enjoyment as her and Grant had found themselves. This was something the man beside her picked up on as he snorted into her beer in amusement, pulling her eyes to him. She screwed up her face in confusion at his behaviour before taking a sip of her own drink.
“Do tell what’s got you giggling Grant?”
“I just think it funny, you and Liebgott.” The man said, flicking his gaze between the two of them.
“What do you mean ‘you and Liebgott’? Me and Liebgott what?” Y/N asked, her eyebrows drawing further towards one another, her forehead creasing with frown lines.
“You guys...together. It’s an interesting pairing.”
“Together? The fuck does that mean?”
"You guys being together...as a couple?" Grant looked confused and borderline uncomfortable at this point, unsure where the conversation was going and why the woman was reacting as she was.
"What? You nuts?" She all but screeched, a few heads turning before looking away quickly after receiving a sneering glare from the woman who was growing more stressed by the second.
"What? So you're not?"
"How long-how long you been thinking this?"
"I don’t know, I overheard Luz saying to Perconte bout how he’s talked about it with most of the other guys, just kinda assumed..." Y/N’s heart dropped to her stomach for some reason at this revelation, panic setting into her bones as she scrounged up some kind of escape plan. Her fight or flight seemed to flare up almost as much as it would while in the field, her breath increasing in growing worry. This is what she wanted...was it?
“Everyone...thinks Joe and I are together...more than friends?” She muttered to herself, her brain running thoughts through her head at speed, like a bullet from a chamber until it could hit the centre of a target. Her spine straightened suddenly, giving Grant the slightest of frights as his eyes continued to watch her movements as she stood quickly. Her feet took a step forward towards Floyd who stood leaning against a wall, smiling down at a woman who seemed to be fluttering her lashes at him. He spun around in a flash as Y/N had shouted his name, heads turning to look at her from all angles of the bar. He barely had a chance to mutter a word before she pulled his face to hers, planting a firm kiss to his lips. Her panic drove her to madness as she clutched at the idea of anything to calm her frightened nerves. Floyd hummed in shock for a moment before melting to the woman’s lips, his hands moving to grasp her waist almost aggressively. The two had stood wrapped up in each other even after they’d heard the harsh slam of the bar door, until eventually a voice called to her gently.
Y/N was reluctant to pull away as she savoured the feeling of another’s lips on hers, the taste of cigarettes and beer inhaling her fully for a split second from the reality of things. She pulled away at another call of her name, recognising the voice to be Babe, Floyd’s eyes asking so many questions as she stared at him for a moment. He let worry take over him as she saw the almost distraught look on her face, her mind running so fast that she couldn’t distinguish any of her emotions from each other; and god was it driving her mad.
Y/N barely glanced at Babe or anyone else for that matter as she stumbled backwards and sprinted out of the bar back to her room, only taking notice of the absence of one man. Babe looked at where she disappeared from for a moment before making eye contact with an equally confused Floyd whoo simply shrugged his shoulders in defeat. The man sighed before shaking his head, inevitably knowing she wanted him to follow her as he took off in a run out the door.
Y/N let out a loud sigh as she wandered down the hallway to her room, Babe close on her heels as he tried to talk to her to calm the frustrated woman. She felt his presence yet heard nothing that came from his lips as her mind swallowed itself whole, throwing her into a swirling pool of ‘what ifs’ and ‘why the fucks’. More flashes of her parents came to her, hard and so goddamn fast that she almost felt dizzy; a technicolour of jealousy, spite, pain, misery. It ate at her, and she wanted nothing more than for it to just stop. She just wanted to feel anything but this; anything. They approached the door quickly as the woman let out a huff, throwing the door open and taking a step inside. She turned towards the man with her, her hand resting on the edge of the door, holding it open for him while he hesitated to step in.
“You coming in or you just going to stand there like an idiot?”
“Is this really a good idea, I mean, isn’t Joe already upset enough.”
“That isn’t my problem, he knows we’re nothing more than friends just like I am with you. You didn’t get jealous when I kissed Tab so why should he have the right to?” She all but spat, growing impatient as she tried to ignore every other feeling in her brain, guilt from her harsh words about Joe now added on top of that. The young man sighed when he realised nothing he was going to say was going to change her mind, throwing his head back to look at the ceiling as if asking God for forgiveness in advance.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you Y/N.” He replied, looking back at her as she stepped towards him, grasping at his tie and tugging him to her.
“Stop talking and fuck me already Babe.”
There hadn’t been any talking from that point on aside from the occasional mumble of slurred curses from Babe as she grabbed at him, allowing her to have her way with him in a way he shouldn’t have. The two of them had always been so carefree about their little arrangement, just another plus of their close friendship and nothing more, but as he took her how he always had he felt the guilt build up in his stomach. Joe had become one of his closest friends bar the woman who was currently withering in ecstasy underneath him and the feeling ate him alive as much as he tried not to think about it. Babe had been the one Joe had confined in about Y/N and his feelings towards him and yet here he was, groaning in pleasure as he touched the woman in ways good friends should not.
Y/N was in a similar state of confusion and guilt. Her mind ran a thousand miles an hour as she tried to suppress the urge to compare the two men she had been rolling around the sheets with, yet it had constantly come back to the man who had plagued her thoughts for weeks in ways he shouldn’t. Her confusion stemmed from the emotion that bubbled in her chest at the idea of the day she’d had, the green-eyed monster that had stirred in her at the sight of the pretty, blonde Austrian girl so close to someone who wasn’t hers. All this flew through her head as she lay beneath the body of another and it infuriated her. Why? Why was she so caught up on the man? Why was he any different to the men she’d been with before and why was she so wrapped up in the idea of him?
Y/N and Babe spent the rest of the afternoon pressed against one another’s bodies, both trying to gulp down the torturous feelings of guilt that nagged at them. When the man pulled his clothes back on slowly, his eyes wandered to the figure still lying on the bed, her chin resting on her hand with a far away look on her face. He pursed his lips, wondering if he should bring up Joe and continue their previous argument but had decided against it, finishing lacing his boots up before walking towards the door. His back faced her, his hand resting on the doorknob as he paused for a moment. Running his tongue over his top teeth, he glanced back one more time, staring at the woman who hadn’t moved since he’d stood to get dressed before shaking his head and ripping the door open. Y/N didn’t even look towards the door as he shut it, her lip pulling between her teeth as she tried to fight the feelings of disgust and guilt she had towards herself. Babe took two steps away from her door fixing his hair and straightening his clothes before he looked up from his shoes. His eyes found their place on a figure standing at the end of the hall, hands clenched into fists and nostrils flaring in rage. Joe shook his head while letting out a chuckle of disappointment, an unamused smirk pulling to his lips before turning and storming off down the stairs, leaving Babe standing wide eyed and deflated.
I only light up when cameras are flashing,
never enough and no satisfaction
Y/N had been feeling the weight of her emotions beginning to tip dangerously far to one side of the scale, her mind ready to explode at the addition of any extra stress. Joe had yet to speak to the woman in a few days, so it was to everyones shock and surprise that he had been the first to jump at the chance to defend her honour. In the state of chaos, Y/N followed the man outside to talk to him as he rushed out the door of the bar, her mouth opening to yell as soon as she left the warm of the indoors.
“Why the fuck did you do that Joe? He was twice your size.” She yelled after him, her feeting picking up the pace to reach him. Joe spun around immediately, his face still red from rage.
“You should have heard the things he said about you Y/N. What else was I supposed to do?” He countered, fists clenched at his side.
“You don’t need to defend me like that for fucks sake, i’m not a child.” She replied harshly, feeling the scales tip as the emotions begun to slid off the uneven surface and escape her mouth. Joe let out a huff, an unamused smile on his face as he ran a hand through his hair, tugging the ends harshly.
“Nothing I do ever seems to be enough for you.” He spat, surprising her as he’d never spoken to her with such a tone.
“Wh-what?” She stuttered out quietly. He just stood still, staring directly at her without an answer. Her frustration grew as everything started to implode on itself. “What do you want from me?”
“What do I want from you? I’ve given you fucking everything, Y/N. Everything I have, everything I am, I’ve given it to you.” Joe said with his voice raising higher in volume with every word he spoke.
“I never asked you to do that for me Joe. I’m not fucking yours so stop acting like I am.” Y/N replied, pointing at herself as she did. The man let out a yell of frustration to the sky before taking several steps closer to her.
“LOVING YOU HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH POSSESSING YOU! I JUST WANT YOU TO LOVE ME BACK.” He screamed at her, a visible vein popping along his forehead at the tension he held in his body. He stopped short at her taken aback look, his body loosening slightly while his eyes seemed to begin to swim with tears. “Just-just a little bit of your love, that’s all I want. Fuck Y/N, i’d continue to let you walk all over me, be with these other guys no matter how much it fucking hurts just for the sake of being able to see that there’s a little space on your heart with my name written on it.” He all but whispered the last part to her while watching her face so intently for a reaction. The woman didn’t know what to say, her mouth only opening and closing like a fish out of water as she pondered his words. “Forget it. This was a mistake and I really can’t do it anymore.”
Y/N thought she had been forcing herself to bleed so he wouldn’t have to, yet it had been him taking a knife to the heart, and even a few to the back, the whole time while she stood with her hand clutching the handle. She’d told herself to stay away from him when he started getting too close, played around with other guys in hopes he would leave before he’d have to see the ugly side she hid away. She’d gotten jealous about someone who was yet to be in Joe’s life yet kissed Tab in front of everyone to prove a point she wasn’t even sure she needed to make, continued to sleep with Babe even after he’d brought up that it wasn’t a good idea. She’d done all of it in hopes that he would lose the adoration in his eyes when he looked at her so she wouldn’t get the chance to act like the abysmal role models of ‘love’ that were her parents; and yet that is exactly what she did.
She knew in that moment she should let him go, for the both of them, yet something inside of her seemed to jump out and take ahold of the reigns, pushing her body to throw a hand out to grab his shoulder.
“No, no Joe please. I don’t want you to go, I want you to stay, please stay.” Her eyes were swimming with tears at this point, much like the set of eyes that turned to looked back at her. He shook his head, screwing his face up as a single tear fell along his cheek.
“Just another thing you want in spite of how others are feeling, huh Y/N?”
He walked away from her with hast, another hidden tear slipping down his cheek while he got lost in his own thoughts. The problem with a woman like Y/N is that he knew he would continue to love her, even if it had to be from afar.
Got no shame,
I love the way you're screaming my name
“JOE! PLEASE!” Y/N screamed after him as she felt the sudden burst of emotion flowing out of her, taking long strides to grab at him again. He threw his arm out of her grasp, spinning around to tell her to piss off but stopped short with a gulp. The broken look on her face is something he hadn’t seen on her before; pain and sadness, happiness and joy, anger and malice all yes but never such a shattered look. A sob left her throat as she looked up at him, her fingers gripping at the sleeves of her shirt out of anxious habit. “Please, stay. Listen, that’s all I’m asking. If you still wanna walk away after that then I’ll-I’ll let you go, please. I can’t let you leave without trying.” She stuttered out, causing Joe to nod his slowly, taking his tongue between his teeth to stop him from biting back. “I can’t take back the shit i’ve done no matter how much I wish I could, but i’m trying my best to do better and I’m starting with this.” She continued before taking a deep breath. She recounted it all, the lies, the cheating, jealousy, spite, pain, grief, loneliness, greed, confusion, loss, solitude; all of it. Joe listened to it, taking it in as well as he could as she told him of her parents, her childhood and how she doesn’t know what the fuck she’s doing half the time but how she didn’t have any choice but to learn. His heart ached for the woman he loved and the emotion she was expressing to him, watched as every single thing she’d been holding in for so long was finally slipping from her eyes and down her face. He fell in love with her again, all over again, as he saw her now, raw and vulnerable, his Y/N.
“If-if i could be a different person, could have lived a different life, trust me, I would have. I’ve never had good role models, never been shown how to love people without being greedy and hateful. I’ve only ever known how to take the good from people and spit them back out when I’m done with them. I’m-i’m still learning how to not be that person, but I am, I promise. I just-I just need someone to show me how.” Y/N said, several tears running down her cheeks as she did. Joe let his hand move to run his thumb over them to clear the salty liquid from her face, not liking the way she looked so lost.
“I was kinda hoping it would be you. If you’d have me.” She whispered to him, looking up at him almost sheepishly to see the smile that was slowly moving to his lips.
“I thought you’d never ask. Cause god knows you’ve had me since day one.” He reached out in that moment, taking a hold of her waist before dipping down to meet her lips with his. They stood wrapped in one another arms for a few minutes, giving in to the feelings, giving in to each other. They pulled away from one another for a moment, their eyes never leaving each other as she muttered the next words, her lips ghosting over his.
“Take it. Take all of it. I don’t want the heart beating in my chest if your name isn’t written all over it.”

“You’re not going on that patrol.”
“Yeah, you know, you’re real funny,” you sarcastically quipped. With a sardonic grin plastered on your face, you turned to face Liebgott. His face displayed a much less amused expression as he stared at you, arms folded. You scoffed. “Oh, come on, Lieb. You can’t be serious!”
He deadpanned, his expression conveying his response.
You furrowed your brows, frustrated. “Well, it’s a good thing you don’t make the choices around here.” You scoffed once more before turning away, angrily tightening the grip you held on your rifle.
“I spoke to Tab, he’s taking your place.”
You froze. Turning around slowly, you glared daggers at him. “You did what?”
“Go back to your foxhole, go get some extra rest.”
Your mouth fell open. “Liebgott, you can’t–”
“Go back to your foxhole, alright?” he repeated with a nonchalant tone. He spoke as if he was doing you some service. Who did he think he was? Your face turned red as heat rose to your cheeks, and you swore steam almost shot from your ears.
“Why are you doing this?” you snapped.
“You’re exhausted. You need rest. For yourself, for the company.”
You dryly laughed. “What do you know about how I feel? Everyone here is tired.” He frowned in response. “You can’t just decide things for me, that’s not how this works. I’m perfectly capable of going on patrol, and so that’s what I’ll do.”
“Yeah, well, maybe I don’t want us to lose another man because someone’s too tired to look out for their partner,” he countered.
You gaped at him, shocked that he would stoop so low. “You were the one that told me it’s not my fault! I did the best that I could!”
“Maybe your best isn’t enough!”
You stood, astonished, boots buried in the snow. Opening your mouth to make a retort, you quickly decided against it. It was a waste of energy. He was a waste of energy. Turning on your heel, you stormed off.
The snow crunched beneath your steps as you stormed off. Even in the freezing hell that was Bastogne, it was no surprise that you were still subjected to his nasty temperament. You were used to his brash personality, but now, as you found yourself trapped in the frigid Ardennes, he was much worse.
You let out a huff, your mind racing. The way that he was bothered you to no end. It was frustrating that he would dare to make such a decision on your behalf, it was frustrating that he felt the need to do so, and most of all, it was frustrating that you cared so much.
It wasn’t like you to be so heavily affected by others, so why did this matter? Did he really think you were weak? You had put up with so much to get this far and you weren’t about to start accepting hand-outs. You trudged through the snow, mind heavy with thoughts - before a sudden flash sent you tumbling backward.
You laid in the soft, white snow, your ears ringing.
The colors of the world faded to monochrome. Time was slow.
You laid, unmoving, tired. You felt the cold earth beneath you shaking as German artillery rained from the sky.
Through the deafening silence, a voice screamed your name. Snapping back to your senses, your eyes widened in fear. Propping yourself up, you cried out in distress. You glanced down to see a sharp piece of shrapnel lodged in your right leg with a thick patch of blood pooling the area.
“Medic!” a voice shouted out only to be consumed by the thundering roar of an explosive. You clutched at your wounded leg, staring at the deep gash in horror. Sensing rapid approaching movement, your eyes darted to Liebgott, who was frantically crawling towards you.
When he finally reached you, he grabbed your shoulders, supporting the weight of your upper body. You blankly stared at him as he scanned your leg to assess the situation. “Doc!” he called.
“Joe,” you mumbled, your head lulling to the side.
“Hey, look at me. You’re fine, alright? Look at me!” His face read worry, but his voice remained steady. He moved a hand to cup your cheek and tilted your head to face him. You leaned into his warmth, entranced by the gaze of his soft, brown eyes.
“Joe,” you repeated.
“Hey, hey. You’re alright, sweetheart.” He gently ran his thumb over your cheek, wiping away a tear you hadn’t realized had fallen. In an instant, Eugene Roe rushed to your side and dropped to his knees by your injury. He tossed open his medical bag, making quirk work with the few supplies he had left.
“Look at me, sweetheart,” Joe cooed, bringing your attention back to him. He paid no mind to the medic, solely focused on you. A sharp pain stung your leg.
“Joe,” you echoed, your voice faltering. “Joe, I don’t want to go. Please don’t let me go, please.”
“I’ve got you, sweetheart. You’re okay now.” He pulled you in close, allowing your upper body to fall into him. He wrapped an arm around your back and the other around your head, gently pressing your cheek against his chest. He silently cradled you, resting his chin atop your head and squeezing his eyes shut.
You were afraid. The adrenaline coursing through your body made it difficult to form rational, comprehensive thoughts. You remembered how you were mad at him. How could he be like this in your final moments? You didn’t want to go like this, you weren’t ready. You wanted to cry out and yell and tell him how angry you still were. You wanted to tell him that you loved him.
“I know, I know,” he whispered, holding you tightly. No, you thought, you don’t.
Although numbed to pain, you felt the touch of the medic on your wounded leg. As your consciousness slipped away you focused on the sensation of Liebgott’s embrace. He held you close, trembling, his fingers combing through your tangled hair. The last thing you felt was his warmth.
You jolted awake, jerking upright. As your consciousness slid back into your body, memories of what came before flooded your vision. Blinking away the confusion, you sat, shell-shocked.
You were on a bed–or, what felt like a wooden plank covered in scratchy blankets–in a small, tented room, likely attached to one of the field hospitals. You peered down at the shape your legs formed beneath the blanket, taking note that both remained intact. In an attempt to swing your legs over to get up, a sharp pang of pain shot through your freshly wounded leg and up to your spine, causing you to cry out.
A nearby nurse gasped and pushed into your makeshift room, scrambling to your side and throwing her arms behind your back to support your weight. “Goodness, dear! You sure gave me a fright,” she exclaimed, gently lowering you onto the rickety bed.
You took a moment to take in her appearance. She had dark brown hair that was neatly slicked back into a white nurse’s cap. Although she carried herself with a youthful demeanor, her face displayed creases similar to that of an older woman.
“I need to get back to the line,” you mumbled, forcing yourself up.
“Not in your state, you don’t!” She placed a palm on your shoulder, giving it a tender squeeze. “What’s your name, dear?”
You frowned. “How long was I out?”
At your refusal of her question, she paused, offering a polite smile. “You arrived here just about a day ago.”
You curtly nodded in response. You observed your wounded leg. It was wrapped in thick, white bandages that were, in some odd areas, tainted with hues of red and brown.
“I’ll need to replace those bandages of yours shortly. I’ll go get some more and I’ll return in a bit, alright, dear?” She smiled once more, clasping her hands together at her front. At your lack of response she pursed her lips and saw herself out, exiting through the tent flap.
After you watched the nurse leave, you returned your gaze to your legs. With shaky breaths, you leaned back and rested against the stiff frame of the bed. You wanted to cry. You wanted to release all the emotions that came along with your freshly opened wounds, but you couldn’t. Nothing came out.
Instead, you stared ahead.
You awoke to the sound of the tent flap shuffling. Your head whipped to the source, body stiffening. Standing at the entrance of your makeshift room was none other than Joseph Liebgott.
He stood rigid, his helmet clutched at his side. He had shaved since you had last seen him. The two of you looked at each other in silence. Despite the emptiness that ebbed away at your mind, now that he was here, you felt your emotions beginning to trickle back.
You remembered the rage you had felt towards him. You remembered how, despite your argument, despite his cutting words, he immediately came to your side to comfort you in what you thought would be your final moments. You felt the way he held you as your consciousness crept away from you.
“I can’t…I can’t do this anymore,” you uttered.
“What?” he pressed, taking a couple steps towards you.
“Joe, I’m fed up. I’m sore and I’m frustrated, and really, I just can’t do this.”
“What? What’s the matter with you?”
“You! You’re the matter!” you cried out. “You’re an ass! You make my head ache and you make me hate myself for feeling like this! And I hate that I feel this way, and I hate that I let myself feel like this, and I hate that I have to pretend that I’m okay with it when I’m not.
“I can’t stand you! I can’t stand your fucking attitude or the names you call me or the way you pick on me or how you can always find me in a group or how you always stare at me with that look of yours.
“And I hate how I allowed myself to fall into this trap, that I let you have this much power over me. If I could change the way things were, I would. But I can’t. And we’re in the middle of a goddamned war and this–this feeling should be the last thing that I’m worried about, but the truth is, I’m hopelessly, irrevocably, madly in love with you, and I can’t imagine a day where I wake up and you’re not around to bother me. And I hate that the most.”
By the time your tirade was finished, you had begun crying. Your face went hot as tears spilled down your cheeks and into your lap. Embarrassed by your explosive reaction, you tightly clenched your fists, raising an arm to wipe away your tears.
“You’re…in love with me?” he muttered, his voice a breath.
“That’s your main takeaway? Yes, you idiot!” you bawled.
Glimpsing past the cover of your arm, you caught his expression softening. As your eyes locked with his, he came to his senses and rushed to your side. He threw his arm around your shoulders and gently nudged your body towards his.
You fell into his chest, allowing yourself to let it all out. He wrapped his arms around you. You were grateful for his comfort but confused as to why he wasn’t recoiling in disgust. Hesitantly, you snaked your arms around his waist.
As your emotions calmed, he gently pulled away. You glanced up at him, sniffling. He lowered himself to your height, cupping your face in his palms. You weren’t sure if you’d seen this side of him before. He sharply inhaled a breath.
“I’m in love with you, too,” he declared. You searched his face for any trace of dishonesty but there was none to be found.
“Joe,” you breathed, bringing a hand to his cheek.
You were captivated by his beauty, taking in the sight of how handsome he was up close. Your eyes flickered down to his lips as he tugged them into a smirk.
The two of you, as if propelled by magnets, slowly drew your faces together until your lips met. Eyelids fluttering shut, you pressed your lips against his, melting into his touch. He returned the kiss, using a hand to gently adjust your head. He slid his other hand down your shoulders and to the small of your back, drawing you closer.
You were the first to pull away. You raised your fingers, pressing them to your swollen lips as if you were unsure that the kiss was real. He studied your face with interest, watching with a smile.
“You mean it?” you asked him, just to be sure.
“I do, sweetheart,” he replied, rubbing his thumb up and down the side of your waist.
Suddenly, the tent flap shuffled and in came the nurse. “Oh!” she exclaimed, abruptly stopping in her tracks. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize–”
“It’s alright, I was just visiting,” Joseph said, rising to his feet and turning to face the nurse.
“I just need to replace her bandages. Is that alright?” she asked, turning to you for permission. You nodded.
She bowed her head and approached your bandaged leg. As she started to get to work, you looked over to Joseph and reached out to clasp his hand. His face flushed as he smiled down at you, lacing his fingers with yours.
“I love you,” you mouthed to him.
“I love you,” he mouthed back.
Although your mind was still swirling with many negative feelings such as hurt, shock, and frustration, none of them were as strong as the love you felt for the man holding your hand. In that moment, you knew that eventually, your wounds would heal, and it would all be okay.

Hi bestie!! I am, once again, humbly Begging for #1 or #6 with Lieb, please 😅🥺🙏🏼
#1 — GOOD MORNING KISS. / send a kiss from this list.
He likes to start his shifts early, to really make a good buck off of all those sailors coming in the early morning on their ships. It’s routine for him at this point. Wake up, (begrudgingly) detangle himself from you, take a shower and start on coffee. Joe’s convinced he has this down to a science. Since the war, his internal clock doesn’t even let him sleep in as late as he would’ve liked, so it all works out, in its own way.
Eventually, you also pull yourself out of bed. He always greets you with coffee, has the way you take it memorized. By that point he’s dressed for the day, keys on the counter, and orangey-early morning light is washing over the kitchen as the San Francisco fog finally begins to clear.
Before the war, he honestly hated mornings, but he’d pull himself out of bed because he had siblings to support and parents to help out, so he did it without complaint.
Now, though, he looks at you and the scene before him is something that can only be described by those overly flowery words Web was always mulling over during the war. You’re a dream in his button down, hands clasped around the mug as you slowly but surely make your way back to the waking world.
“I forgot something.” Joe pushes himself off the counter, making his way towards you. You raise a brow.
“And what’s that?”
He leans down, kissing you sweetly, tasting the remnants of coffee on your breath. You run your hand through his hair and he doesn’t mind as he pulls away, giving you a smirk and a wink.
“Good morning, beautiful.”

A/N: credit for the smacking on the nose goes to @itswormtrain thank you very much for putting that vivid image in my mind. I'm very aware of the fact that Liebgott didn't keep in touch with anyone from Easy Company after the war, but bear with me. Side note, this was originally going to be a Malarkey fic but I rewrote it entirely for it to fit Lieb lmao. That said, hope you enjoy <3

C'mon, Y/n, you can do this, I spurred myself, hand on the metallic door knob. You were a paratrooper, for God's sake.
Knock knock.
"It's open!"
With a slow push on the wooden surface, I was able to walk into the narrow estance at the back of the chapel that currently served as changing room for the groom and groomsman.
Before me, a very hopeless Floyd Talbert attempted in vain to do his tie knot, and a stressed Joe Liebgott muttered profanities whilst pacing.
"Sorry to interrupt, gentlemen." they both ceased their actions and turned to me with a surprised face. "Arlene told me to tell you that the... bridesmaid problem? Is solved."
Ah, the bridesmaid problem; Floyd's soon-to-be wife had gotten into a serious argument with her friend a few days prior to the wedding, which led to Arlene Hunt finding out she lacked a bridesmaid last minute.
Chaos had unleashed, until the bride's mother had laid her eyes on me. Soon enough, I was dragged into the ceremony even before I could go and greet Tab.
"Apparently, I'm the bridesmaid?" I announced, rubbing my hands with nervousness. "I don't-"
"Y/n Y/l/n!" Tab claimed my name with a smile, stalking across the room to give me a quick hug. "Didn't know if you'd make it."
"Matter of fact, I almost didn't." I laughed softly, returning the affectionate gesture. "The trip was dreadful. I just got here."
"Joe could've brought you here. He came all the way from San Francisco, too." That statement made us both spare a proper look at a starstruck Joe, half forgotten in the room with his mouth agape. "Right Joe?"
"Huh?"
"The cab. You two could've come together."
"Oh! yeah." He cleared his throat, scratching the back of his neck. "I'll... drive you back to your place after the wedding."
"You don't have to." I assured him.
"No, I will— don't fight me, it's fine."
I gave him a tight-lipped smile, clutching my purse as if my life depended on it.
Floyd puffed, his eyes traveling from Joe to me, and back to Joe. The tension heaved over us so visibly that it could have been cut with a knife.
"Okay I'm gonna go... Attend groom's matters." Talbert announced, gently moving me out of the way in order to reach the door.
"Ain't that supposed to be my—" Liebgott's words were cut short by the abrupt shut of the door behind me. "He's a mess."
"He is." I agreed, taking my hands to my back. "Floyd Talbert marrying. Who would've thought?"
"Fuck, not even him." Joe remarked, triggered an quiet amused chuckle on my part. "You look beautiful, by the way." He added, nonchalantly motioning at my form.
My cheeks heated ever so slightly, my gaze casted down to check the way I looked myself. "Why, thank you. You don't look so bad yourself."
He clicked his tongue, briefly giving his head a side tilt, eyes wandering off to the side of the room while he shoved his hands in his pockets. "Had to look sharp for today."
"Well, you sure do."
We both shared a nervous look and seemed to wander the same thing. Gosh, where was this awkwardness coming from? Floyd, Joe and I used to be as thick as thieves. Now we couldn't even hold a proper conversation.
Drifting apart, time and the war were to blame, sure, but Joe and I had had a hand in it too.
Spring of '45
"—Y/n for fuck's sake!" Liebgott's hand made the door come to a halt and pushed it wide open, shortly after I had attempted to shut it behind me.
"I don't wanna hear it!"
"Too fucking bad!"
"Leave!"
I was very much aware that our shouts were most likely echoing through the whole hotel, which was the opposite to what we both would have liked, but the panic led me to have a very irrational response to Joe's words.
With a huff, he turned, not to leave but to close the door behind him. At least we'd have some privacy. "If you don't wanna hear it then why'd you fuckin' ask?!"
"BECAUSE" I clapped my hands together. "I didn't THINK the response to 'what's wrong with you today' would be 'I think I'm IN LOVE WITH YOU'!" Throwing my hands in the air definitely added unnecessary dramatism to the situation, but I couldn't stop myself.
"I know that wasn't the ideal love confession you expected but—"
"What you're implying is unethical." Outloud sounded even more absurd than in my head, and I had to mentally facepalm myself.
"The hell— that's— feelings are not unethical, you stupid fuck!"
"Hey!"
"What a poor fuckin' excuse! You've always been bad at handling your feelings—"
"Look who's talk—"
"—but this one takes the cake!" He took a couple of steps in my direction and I could tell he was about to spiral. "I'm your fucking friend! The least you can do is reject me properly! And instead what— you run upstairs and try to shut the door on my face! you coward. selfish. assh—"
Smack.
Not giving a single thought to the impulse I had just felt sent us into an abrupt silence.
Joe lips parted in shock as he took a step back with his hand on his nose, while my own covered my mouth, eyes widened.
"Did you just... Smack me in the nose?!" His tone held outrage and disbelief in such a way that it was almost comical.
"I'm sorry." I blurted out in a whisper. "I dunno what—"
He had taken advantage of my frozen state to smack me back. Talbert's voice echoed in my mind; 'you two behave like middle schoolers'.
"Why would you do that?!"
"You smacked me in the nose!" Running his hands through his hair, he did a half turn and, after letting out a frustrated groan, faced me again. "Listen, if you don't feel the same way, just say it."
"Okay!" My mind buzzed with an answer that was so définitive, so simple, that it became difficult to voice. So instead of speaking the truth, I didn't speak at all.
" 'Okay' what?"
My mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water until the only coherent sentence I put together fell from my lips. "Fuck you."
I didn't stay to listen to his response. Needless to say, that chaotic argument we had in Zell am See, had been the last time we had spoken to each other.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"what kinda bridesmaid bails the day of the wedding?" I commented with a frown in an attempt to make a proper conversation from a scratch.
"A stupid one." I an amused smile tugged on the corner of my lip. "Mind helping me out with the tie?" I shook my head in the negative before taking a few careful steps to reach Joe. "I told Tab I didn't like that broad." He explained while I passeohim my purse and reached for the undone tie around his collar. "Always saying shit to Arlene 'bout—"
"Alright, Joe, let's not speak ill of future Mrs. Talbert's friend." I warned with a quirked brow.
"Aye, Sarge." His mocking tone earned him a warning glare, which, as soon as I looked up at the ghost of his cocky smirk, turned into an endeared glance.
Oh, what I would do for that smile.
"You're staring." It was nothing more than a whisper, but it did the trick to snap me out of my daze.
"Am I?" My voice was just as quiet, my eyes leaving his face in order to focus on finishing the knot of the tie.
He hummed affirmatively. "Not that I mind it." Done with my task, I straightened the tie over his chest, giving him a pat on it. "I missed havin' those pretty eyes on me."
'And I missed you', I wanted to say, but a quick yet loud knock on the door made me step away from Joe. "Y/n, the bride's callin' for ya!"
"Comin'!" I gave my old friend an apologetic smile and stepped backwards to the door.
"See ya out there." He threw me my purse and I nodded, swiftly turning around to exit the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The church ceremony flew by; before we knew it, pictures had been taken and we all have a considerable portion of cake in our plates. The banquet had been simple— a frugal meal by the church, and lots of laughs and drinks.
As endearing as the couple of newly weds were, my attention seemed to keep drifting off to Joe, who kept wandering around, jumping from one conversation to another, occasionally having a drink alone.
"He hates talkin' 'bout the war." Floyd had explained to me. "Whenever someone brings it up, he leaves."
Understandable, I thought. The war was still a hot topic —to the dismay of most soldiers—; people would inevitably bring it up in every conversation.
Eventually, I joined Joe in his nomadic demeanor. We stuck together throughout the remaining of the celebration, much like we had done back in the church, due to our duties as groomsman and bridesmaid. The more we talked, the more my regrets weighed on me.
We had spent years without contacting one another, despite living in the same city. I knew I couldn't blame it all on my reaction to his confession, but it surely had something to do.
That memory, along with the last moments of our friendship back in Berchtesgaden, played in my mind during our trip back to San Francisco.
For better or for worse, we didn't travel alone until we were getting to California.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"There—" I leaned over the cockpit seat to point at the next turn the taxi would have to take. "That's my street."
"Huh."
"What is it?" I questioned, leaning back again for my own safety right before my very personal taxi driver turned the steering wheel in the direction I had pointed.
"I just never realized how close we live."
"Funny, isn't it?"
"I dunno if 'funny's the word." Joe muttered, slowing down the cab midway through the path. From there, it would be a mere three minute walk to my block, which was not bad, considering that Joe had brought me home from Indiana. "It was good to see ya Y/n."
"Joe?" He hummed, looking at my reflection in the rear-view mirror, the same in which I could see his eyes. With a deep breath, I shifted nervous in the backseat, unnecessarily accommodating myself. "I..."
Another sigh escaped my lips again when my eyes met his in the mirror for the second time. There was no trace of the previous curiosity in his look; his brows were now furrowed.
"You know what I'm gonna say, right?" His hand tightened around the steering wheel at my ominous tone.
"I think so."
Should I say it then? I thought. Maybe— no, not maybe; surely at this point it was uncalled for, unnecessary.
"Hold on, I'll pull up." Joe stopped me even before I could open my mouth, which I was thankful for. Purposefully or not, he had given me a couple of minutes to figure my thoughts out while he parked the vehicle.
Soon enough we both were climbing off the taxi with bowed heads.
"Okay, go ahead." He prompted me, leaning against the side of the cab.
"First of all, I'm sorry."
"See? That's how you should've started." "Not by smacking me in the face."
"I did not start by smacking you."
"My bad, you started by running away."
"I— okay yeah." I looked away in shame, an embarrassed smile twisting up my lips at the sound of a soft chuckle escaping Joe's. "Anyway."
"Go on."
"I'm sorry."
"You said that already."
"Gee, true. Okay I..." As hard as I fought the urge to avert my eyes from his, I ended up looking everywhere but at his face, rubbing my hands together in an anxious manner. "You're right. I'm horrible at handling emotions. I panicked. I— I loved you too." I finally met his gaze, relaxed and softened, and let out a relieved sigh. "I still do, I think. Just letting you know in case you don't wanna talk to me ever again."
I didn't mind what happened next, now that I had had the opportunity to get that information off my chest.
There was a moment of silence, after which Joe nodded. "Okay."
" 'Okay' what?"
He leaned on me with a shit-eating grin, hands still behind his back, pressed on the car's window, and whispered. "Fuck you."
"HOW CAN YOU BE SO PETTY? OH MY F—"
We had always seemed to have a habit of cutting off each other's sentences. Normally, it would play on our nerves, but in that moment in which Joe took a hold of my hands to bring me flush against his frame— in that moment in which his lips danced with mines under the stars of San Francisco, I didn't mind it at all.
By the hold he had on me, I don't think he minded it either.
How Different men from BoB and The Pacific would react to you being insecure
Part 2 (George Luz, Joseph Liebgott, and Ron Speirs):
Tiny warning: Speirs’ section is a tad bit suggestive but is not explicit or graphic in anyway
Tumblr media
George Luz:
• You wonder why George is with you,
• He’s so funny, witty, charming!
• And you’re…not.
• It’s not that people didn’t like you. Because they did.
• You just didn’t think your personality could hold a candle to George’s.
• George thought you were super funny, though.
• You didn’t try to be funny like he did, even though he was good at it. You were just naturally good at it without meaning to be.
• That’s one of the things that drew George to you. He thought it was amazing how you were so funny without even trying to be. You just made comments that came to you. And they were hilarious. (This isn’t you’re funny without meaning to in terms of, like, ignorance or stupidity, btw, like “Aw, cute, haha, you don’t know how to do this thing or you don’t know what this is and you should”)
• So he notices when you haven’t joked or even really talked that much one day.
• He sits next to you and asks you in all sincerity what’s wrong.
• And, of course, you reply that nothing is.
• Which earns you a frown. Because obviously something is wrong.
• So George asks you again.
• And you know the jig is up.
• You try to explain it to him.
• And he’s flabbergasted.
• “You mean…to tell me…that you don’t think you’re funny?”
• “That’s right.” You’re completely serious.
• George laughs.
• “What’s so funny?”
• “The fact that you don’t think you’re funny.”
• “I’m not.”
• “Yes you are! You just don’t try to be. You’re naturally funny.”
• “Not as much as you.”
• “I’m funny because I’m good at being funny. And I’m good at being funny because I want to be. I practice. I see what people do or don’t laugh at. And do the things that make them laugh. I do it for attention, mostly. But you don’t try and you’re funny.”
• “How so?”
• “It’s just the things you say, the things that just pop into your head, are funny. You are naturally funny. I’m actually jealous.”
• Now it was your turn to laugh. “You’re jealous of me? I’m jealous of you!”
• “Why would you be jealous of me?”
• “Because you’re so funny and likable.”
• “And you’re not?”
• You shrugged. “I dunno. It just seems like you’re really funny and everyone likes you.”
• “Well, you’re funny and everyone likes you, too.”
• “If you say so.”
• “Do you really not see how other people laugh at what you say?”
• “I guess not.”
• George tsked “well, I guess I’m gonna have to change that.”
• “What do you m-“ before you could finish your question, George had grabbed your wrist and was dragging you along.
• He went to what seemed like almost half the company asking people if they thought you were funny. All of them said yes. He also asked them what the funniest thing you’ve ever said was. All of them were immediately able to cite multiple things without being able to pick one.
• you started crying at one point. George then enveloped you in a hug.
• He held your face in his hands
• “you see that, sweetheart? You’re funny as hell.”
Tumblr media
Joseph Liebgott:
• Cobb (lol, sorry buddy that you’re my go to instigator) had said some mean things about you, particularly your body (PT gear, running Currahee or whatever, maybe just training in general, idk what I want the context to be)
• And Joe was having none of it. It took several guys to hold him back from ripping Cobb to shreds (like, think Bill and the Samaria, except they hold him back before he actually gets to take a swing at Cobb).
• After he had calmed down (or perhaps to calm down), he decides to try and find you.
• You had gone back to the barracks and were lying face down on your bed. Joe sat next to you and ran his hand soothingly up and down your back.
• You moved your head to the side to tell him: “don’t do that.”
• He stopped, but asked: “why not?”
• “Just don’t, ok?”
• Joe scoffed. “Don’t tell me you actually believe that idiot.” Joe was starting to get angry again. How dare Cobb say those things about you. How dare he make you feel bad.
• “Why shouldn’t I?”
• “Because he’s wrong?”
• “How is he wrong?”
• “He just is!”
• When you said nothing, instead opting to just pout at Joe, he sighed and moved to sit further up the bed.
• “Why do you think he might be right?”
• You shrugged. “I dunno.”
• “Is there something you wanna tell me, sweetheart? What’s wrong?”
• This is when you started to cry. Joe instinctively pulled you up and into his arms. You tensed a bit at the contact at first before relaxing into him.
• “What’s wrong sweetheart? Please tell me. I hate seeing you like this. It breaks my heart.”
• “The things he said hit a little too close to home for me. I’ve been a bit insecure about my body for a while now, even though I’m loosing a bit of weight now due to training. So, when he said those things to me, it hurt.”
• “Oh, sweetheart. I’m so sorry. I didn’t know.”
• “It’s alright. You couldn’t have known. I didn’t tell you.”
• “You’re my girlfriend! I should’ve known!”
• “It’s ok, Joe.”
• “No, it’s not ok! That prick can’t say things like that to you and get away with it.”
• “Don’t give him that satisfaction.”
• “What satisfaction?”
• “That he’s right. That he’s angered you.”
• “Same goes for you, too, sweetheart. Don’t be all mopey in here. Get out there and be your badass self.”
• You blushed and smiled.
• “There’s that beautiful smile.” He booped your nose. He then started tickling you.
• “Joe! Joe! Stop! I can’t breathe! It hurts! My cheeks hurt!” You said through your laughter.
• Let’s just say you felt a whole lot better after that.
Tumblr media
Ron Speirs:
• He gets pissed. Like really, really pissed.
• You’ve had to hold him back and calm him down on multiple occasions at bars and pubs if someone insulted you. Or if some private questions your competency as his superior officer.
• But now he’s got all this pent up anger.
• So he steals you away and turns all soft once you two are alone.
• He’s holding you tightly to him and petting your hair while he tells you how wrong the jerk was. He lists off all the ways in which he is wrong. And all the ways in which you are wonderful.
• You get all shy and blush at first, trying to be humble. Because you didn’t really believe him. You thought he was just being nice. That he just had to say those things because he was your boyfriend.
• But then he tells you that he’d like to show you how wonderful you are.
• I will not go into detail about what happens next, but let’s just say he gets his anger out and you feel as loved as ever. It’s a win-win. 😉🤫
the sniper (joseph liebgott x sniper! reader)
Tumblr media
summary: when you transferred from dog company to easy company following the battle of bloody gulch, you thought you knew what to expect of men in the military— though you really wanted joe liebgott to prove you wrong
word count: just over 3500
warnings: period-typical sexism & misogyny (big part of the story), very minor violence, denying feelings, mutual pining, reader lowkey has trust issues, full of other characters but hopefully no one's ooc?? also this fic is kinda messy 😭
notes: happy thanksgiving! enjoy this fic for the holidays 💞 also your favs AREN'T sexist, just confused
Gossip, you realized, was an easy way to kill time for the men of the military, especially with the recent news that there would be a transfer to Easy Company— the transfer being you, of course. You had no idea you were such a hot topic until you walked down a street of Aldbourne in search of the man currently in charge of your new company, Lieutenant Winters, and overheard a trio of soldiers discussing rumors as they sat around awaiting orders.
“Hey, have you heard that there’s a transfer coming from D-Company?” one said, lighting a cigarette.
“Whew, he must’ve not taken any smokes from Lieutenant Sparky, huh, Don?” another chuckled, stealing the cigarette out of who you guessed was Don’s fingers and puffing for emphasis, much to Don’s displeasure.
Huffing, Don continued, “He’s a sniper, apparently! Better than Shifty!”
“Nah, no one’s better than Shifty,” the third butted in. “Shifty can shoot you right between the eyes blindfolded.”
“Shifty would deny that ‘til he died, Penk,” said the second with a smile.
“It’s true, Skip! Apparently he tracked a target from 1,000 yards away and still got him in the head! Bang! Just like that,” Don said while he mimicked holding a rifle and firing.
“Psh, our boy Shifty could do that, or better: 2,000 yards, right?” Skip nudged Penk with his shoulder.
Penk shrugged. “Length don’t matter, anyway. It’s what you do with the gun, not how far it shoots.”
Skip and Don shared a look and grinned, the latter joking, “Don’t you mean distance, Alex? What, you insecure about something?”
The trio devolved into laughter and banter, but was suddenly quieted as Don patted the others and pointed at you approaching. Several other men standing nearby swiveled their heads to watch as well.
A woman dressed in fatigues, the shoulder of her uniform emblazoned with the Screaming Eagles patch, a M1 Garand slung around her back— they couldn't seem to get their mind around it. Disregarding their curious stares (you’d gotten a lot of them for the past two years or so that you've been enlisted), you walked past the group of spectators.
A couple of men whistled lowly, and a murmur spread through the small crowd. You stopped in your tracks for a moment, eyes downward in thought. Surely one of these men knows where Lieutenant Winters is. You turned on your heel toward the group.
“Afternoon,” you addressed the onlookers, who were now either standing up or gathering around in interest. Your eyes went from man to man, meeting inquisitive and suspicious stares alike, unfazed. “Anyone know where I can find Lieutenant Winters?”
“You, uh, you lost?” a diminutive man — Perconte, his name tag read — asked.
One with a strict face and a glower already etched into it — Martin — stepped into the scattered group. “Who’s asking?”
“Private (Y/N), sir,” you said with a quick salute that was returned. “I’m transferring from Dog Company to Easy Company. I was told to look for a Lieutenant Winters.”
The men exchanged a look amongst each other.
The man from earlier, Don, spoke up with awe apparent in his voice. “You’re a sniper?”
You turned to him with a curt nod. “Yes, I’m a sharpshooter.”
Then a lanky, scrappy-looking guy, Liebgott, entered with a smirk tugging upon his lips. Just by looking at his crooked smile and raised eyebrows, you knew he was going to cause you trouble. Just another man ogling at you like you're nothing but a pretty face. What else is new? “You need help getting around base?”
“No thank you, that won’t be necessary,” you swiftly rebuffed, turning your attention back to the rest of the men. You set them with an expectant look.
“You can find Lieutenant Winters over there at CP,” Randleman, a large red-headed man, said around a hefty cigar in his mouth, nodding his head in the tent’s direction. “If he’s not there, try the mess cabin.”
With a small smile, grateful that someone finally answered your question instead of asking more of them, you thanked him, saluted, and walked off.
As you started towards CP, you heard behind your back, “Did Roosevelt change something while we were overseas? ‘Cause I just saw a lady wearing paratrooper clothing with a rifle ‘round her back.”
“Very astute, George,” someone replied.
You could almost hear the smirk in Liebgott’s voice as he declared, “I’m gonna go talk to her.”
“Yeah, come back alive,” another voice — Skip, maybe — chimed in. “Speirs might’ve rubbed off on her.”
You only had a few seconds to mentally prepare yourself before you heard footsteps catching up behind you. Liebgott was now walking side by side with you, matching your brisk pace.
“Hey, (Y/N), right?”
You took a sidelong glance at him. “That’s right.”
“Joseph D. Liebgott. Technician 5th-Grade.”
“And is there a reason why you’re following me to CP, Liebgott?”
“Thought I’d show you around base, get to know you a little.”
“And I thought I declined your assistance,” you said firmly. “I was part of Dog Company; I'm not new around here.”
“Alright, how about introducing you to Easy men when you’re finished?” He threw a smile your way. “They’re curious about you.”
You slightly grimaced at the thought of being at the center of attention for so many strangers. “I’d rather not.”
“Why? They’re great guys. I don’t know about Dog Company men and their Lieutenant Speirs, but Easy men, especially Toccoa men, are different.”
They don’t seem all that different to me. You gripped the strap of your gun a little tighter. “Once again, I’ll pass.”
He shrugged. “You’ll warm up to us.”
A tense silence ensued. You did your best to not seem bothered by it. Usually by this point people gave up and stopped talking to you entirely.
“So, uh,” he began, running his hands through his hair. Of course you weren’t getting rid of him that easily. Your intuition earlier was right. “Why’re you transferring over to Easy? No offense, but we've got a helluva marksman already.”
“I wasn’t given a reason, just an order.”
“That so? Well, maybe you’ll take his place as our resident sniper, huh?”
“Looking forward to it,” you responded drily.
He chuckled. “You’ll fit right into Easy with the rest of the snarkers. Where you from, (Y/N)?”
You eyed him cautiously. “Lansing, Michigan.”
“Get outta here, you serious? I'm from there too!” Liebgott cracked a smile and gazed at you. “Man, I might’ve seen you around and just haven’t realized it. Could've been talking to you years ago.”
You pursed your lips. “It wouldn't have helped your chances, Liebgott.”
Grinning, he said, undaunted, “What chances? We're just talking. I wanna know the lady I’ll be fighting with.”
“You just want to know if I’m single or not. That’s all,” you icily said as the two of you neared the tent.
Apparently found out, Liebgott smiled broadly and stopped a few feet from CP while you continued walking. “Well, are you?”
You turned to face him. “Yes, I’m single, and no, I’m not interested in sleeping with you.”
You couldn’t see the smile melt off his face as you entered the tent, eyes searching amongst all the men and equipment for the tall soldier you’ve seen conversing with Lieutenant Speirs before.
“Private (Y/N),” a voice called. You looked in its direction and finally found Winters.
“Lieutenant Winters.” You saluted.
“You’re the new transfer, right?” he asked, beckoning you further into the tent for some privacy. You were thankful that most of the men here were too occupied with their own duties to notice you.
You followed him to a quiet corner. “Yes, sir.”
“Met the men yet?”
“Some of them.”
“Anyone give you trouble?” he asked gently. “You can tell me.”
You paused, thinking. Nothing past some inquisitive stares and a couple of questions. “No, sir.”
Winters perceived your hesitation. “If that changes, tell me. They're good men, but they might be a bit eager to meet you.”
You nodded. Liebgott certainly was. He analyzed your face for a second before continuing, “Try to get yourself acquainted at dinner before you go into combat with them. That’ll be all, Private.”
You saluted, knowing full well that you’ll most likely try to get a seat by yourself, away from the clamor of the men.
“Thank you, sir.”
-
It turned out that no seat was good enough to escape the onslaught of questions.
You had gotten there early and took a seat at the far end of one of the tables with a book in hand and not much of an appetite. Unfortunately for you, being one of the first ones there instead of a head in a crowd of people singled you out, and eventually you were surrounded by men wanting to know more.
“Hey, this is the new replacement I’ve been hearing so much about, yeah?” Bill Guarnere, or Wild Bill, as they called him, questioned, shoving himself into one of the seats at your table.
“Transfer, Gonorrhea, not a replacement,” Liebgott said from your side. When he had entered the mess cabin, you had attempted to hide yourself with your book, but to no avail. He had beelined toward you, beaming ear to ear as he slid into the seat next to you.
“You into books?” he said, eyes going from you to the book in your hands.
You thought that he might actually surprise you.“Yeah, are you?”
He scoffed lightheartedly. “What, you kidding? I love to read!”
A ghost of a smile graced your face. “What kind?”
“Oh, you know, Dick Tracy, Flash Gordon, mostly!” he said, seemingly proud of himself, and your smile disappeared.
Soon after that, people swarmed your table. If you were being fair, though, Liebgott had spoken for you for most of the night, making sure you could read in relative peace. If you didn't know any better, you’d say that he was just enjoying you being by his side, but you were still wary of any underlying intentions (let’s say, getting into your pants) he might have.
Yet, out of the corner of your eyes, you saw the way he looked at you from time to time with a small smile upturning his lips, and you wanted to believe he didn't have any.
“Transfer, replacement, whatever,” Bill brushed it off with a wave of his hand. “What I wanna know is—”
“—why she’s a girl?” Liebgott finished. “Jeez, I dunno, she’s only been asked this twelve times tonight.”
“If you’d let me finish,” Bill said with a pointed look at Liebgott as he pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, “I was gonna ask if she did shoot a Kraut from 1,000 yards away.”
“You’d be giving ole Shifty a real run for his money, ain't that right, Shift?” Joe — the other one, Joe Toye — said from beside Bill, reaching over to another table and shaking one of the guys there.
Shifty, you assumed, looked over and met your eyes with a kind smile. “No, no, I’m sure she's a better shot than me. Y'all give me too much credit.”
“That’s what being humble will get ya.” Bill chuckled and puffed from his cigarette. “Your spot as Easy’s best shot out from under ya.”
The table laughed, and you steeled yourself before uttering in a quiet, yet steady voice, “It was two men.”
A hush descended over the table. Liebgott turned to look at you. “What?”
“Two men. I dropped the first. The other one heard and started running. I dropped him next. Both in the head,” you relayed, without the humor of a storyteller but the gravity of a historian. You didn't know it, but you had a stony look in your eye.
Luckily, you were saved from the stunned silence by a man getting up and reciting a poem, but you could feel Liebgott’s eyes burning into you. With fear? Admiration? You weren’t sure, but you didn't dare look over.
-
Joe Liebgott was nothing if not persistent. For months now, he'd been lingering around you, flirting and striking up conversations with you. To be honest, you never outright said for him to stop (besides that one time in the very beginning when you said you weren’t interested), so you guessed he wasn't overstepping any boundaries.
Still, he seemed determined to get you into his bed.
“C’mon, I think we’d look cute together!”
“That’s what you think, Joe,” George said, squatting next to his friend, “Giving her heart eyes and all. Meanwhile, she looks at you like you're her next target.”
Brushing his teeth, Frank followed the other two’s gaze across the road, where you were happily talking with Bull and Shifty. He spat out the toothpaste residue on the ground beside him and said, counting on his fingers, “Seems like the only people she gives the time of day to are Shifty, Bull, Doc Roe, even Webster.”
“Who, if you'll notice,” George said, gesturing with a cigarette between his fingers, “are all quiet, reserved, well-mannered people. You, on the other hand, got a loud mouth and, uh, what’s it called, Frank?”
“A short fuse,” Frank supplied.
“Yeah, a short fuse. She probably thinks you’re trying to get into bed with her, in which case, you're shit outta luck.”
Frank said, shaking his head, “Scary, that girl. With her rifle and that look in her eyes.”
Liebgott exhaled. “But I’m not tryna just sleep with her! I even gave her some of my favorite comics ‘cause I knew she likes to read.”
“Yeah, real books, Joe— that's why she gets along with Webster!” Frank exclaimed. “You sure you didn't give her the pornos?”
George laughed. “That'd give her the wrong impression.”
Liebgott narrowed his eyes as you giggled at something Shifty said. “You’re right, maybe she doesn't like me.”
Standing up, George sighed and snuffed out his cigarette. “That’s not the point, Joe. I’ve seen the way she looks at you.”
“Yeah, like I’m her next target? You told me already.”
“No,” George said with an exaggerated eye roll, “like she wants more outta you. ‘Cause all she's getting is the impression that you wanna fuck her.”
Liebgott stood up as well, still watching as you laughed with Bull and Shifty. George and Frank patted him on the back.
“She’s all yours, buddy,” Frank assured with a sympathetic smile. “She makes heart eyes at you too.”
-
There were only a handful of women selected to serve outside of something like a nurse’s position; you just so happened to be one of them, most likely because of your experience with a rifle. So, you’d gotten used to the lustful ways some men would watch you, or the demeaning ways they would taunt you. You guessed almost all of them had never seen a woman with a combat position in the military before (or by the way some of them acted, ever spoken to a woman at all).
But such men only assumed that you had earned your jump wings by sleeping around with officers. They assumed that they should be able to get in on it too, or that they should condemn you for something you didn't even do, for being unworthy and unskilled all because you were a woman.
It had always been a difficult pill to swallow: your military career would be littered with scathing remarks and crude comments, and you’d have to be strictly professional or closed-off with most men lest you’d be seen as a whore rather than just “scary”. But the hardest fact to accept was the fact that Liebgott, for all the kindness he had shown you, all the times he talked to you like you were a human being— that he most likely had the same intentions as everyone else.
As much as you relished his company, his crooked smile, his jokes, his lingering touches (and as much as you had to pretend you didn't), you had to accept his end goal was for you to warm his bed. And sure, maybe he was more dogged with his efforts than other men were, and maybe your friends in the company had told you that he was a genuine guy, but you just couldn't believe that he had anything else in mind when it came to you.
Maybe all the criticisms thrown your way had affected you more than you thought.
With the success of Operation Pegasus, Bull had dragged you (not literally, though you’re sure he could've) into a pub in the Netherlands for some celebratory drinking.
You didn't drink, and you disliked pubs; the smell of booze and drunken people was often overpowering, but at least you found quiet company with Bull. Across the room from your table, you saw Liebgott staring at you with a smile and a drink in his hand. It seemed as though he had noticed you the second you entered.
“It’s alright if I leave you alone for a second, little lady?” Bull said, chewing on a cigar like usual. “You'll be fine?”
“Sure, Bull. Go enjoy yourself.”
The large man smiled and patted you on the back before leaving to talk to some of the other men in the company.
Not one to mingle, you were only a few pages into your book when you caught the attention of an intoxicated soldier.
“Look who it is,” Cobb said to himself, hardly standing upright. You recognized his voice, seeing as this wasn’t the first time he’s derided you. “Ms. 1,000 Yards, huh. Bet the officers over at Dog Company only made up that story so it looks like you had some use.”
You ground your teeth. Typically, if you didn't give someone like him the satisfaction of an answer, they’d leave you alone. Why defend yourself and give people another word to call you: bitchy?
“What's a woman got to do in the military anyway?” Bottle in hand, he shambled towards you. “Besides suck the dicks of the men who are actually fighting.”
Steadying your uneven breath, you tried to look behind him to find Liebgott, but his body blocked your view.
Taking another swig, he spat, “That why they transferred you over from Dog Company? Those boys got their fill of you and passed you onto us, huh? Fuckin’ good for nothing slut.”
“What the fuck did you just say to her?” You heard Liebgott’s voice and felt relief wash over you.
Cobb turned around, and you caught a glimpse of an incensed Liebgott, a fierce glint to his eyes.
“Tell me what you just said to her.”
“Oh, please, Joe, you trying to get her to suck your cock faster—”
He was interrupted by a fist flying his way, toppling the inebriated man. Liebgott got on top of him and began trading punches before the surrounding men, drawn by the commotion, tried to pull him off of Cobb.
Your eyes were blown wide as you stood there, speechless. Bull found you and pulled you by the arm out of the pub.
“But what about Liebgott?” you said, peering behind you.
Bull shrugged and did the same. “Seems like he was winning anyway.”
That night in your billet, all you could think about was the fury that twisted Liebgott’s face into one you only saw on the battlefield.
And it was all for you.
-
The next day, you searched for Liebgott at breakfast, the table feeling a bit more empty without him taking up his normal spot beside you, but he had found you first, as he usually did.
“Hey, (Y/N), can I talk to you for a sec?” he said, his hand on your shoulder. You turned around in your seat and were met with a slightly bruised Liebgott, a small cut across his nose. Concern filling your chest, you nodded, and his hand held your wrist as he led you out of the mess hall.
“So, uh, about last night,” he started, rubbing the back of his neck. His eyes searched yours for how you felt about him bringing it up, but he found no hints in your unreadable expression. “I’m sorry for fighting Cobb for you. You're a strong woman, you could handle him yourself—”
Smiling at his uncharacteristic hesitance, you cut his apology short with a peck on the cheek. You pulled away and saw his temporary surprise.
“Thank you, Joe. I appreciated you standing up for me. It means a lot.”
His face broke into the widest beam you've ever seen.
“Can I kiss you?” he asked eagerly, the words spilling out of his mouth before he could even process what they were. “Shit, sorry, that was too soon—”
You answered his question by tenderly holding his bruised face with your hands and bringing his lips to yours. You could feel him grin into the kiss as he pulled you closer, and your heart just about melted.
Maybe you had gotten Joe Liebgott all wrong from the start.
“Great, he’s never gonna wash that cheek again!”
Hi honey, I have to say I love your stuff. You write absolutely great. Could you do a headcannon on BoB and what type of love would you give them? I mean love at first sight, enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, etc. I'd be happiest with Winters and Nixon and Speirs, but do what you will. Thank you.
A/n: here you go my love. When I finally re read the request I realized you might have wanted the pov's reversed but it was too late. Hopefully it's not too bad. I will happily switch it to reader pov if you wish.
Warnings:fluff
Richard winters
-friends to lovers. I don't think that this man thought of romance when he first met you. Attractive? Most definitely. However he had bigger things preoccupying his mind. Yet somehow at some point, you wiggled your way to being one of his best friends. Don't tell nix. Something about you practically scrambled his brain. He doesn't know when in the friendship he fell or if he fell in the very beginning. But when he realized just how much he loved you it was like he jumped off a cliff without a parachute. He knew right then and there you were it for him. He probably felt nervous telling you due to the fact that he never gave off the impression that he likes you. But let's just say the feelings were reciprocated.
"Dick, I have been flirting with you this whole time."
"Really??"
Lewis nixon
- love at first sight. This man took one look at you and said yes. He may not immediately start flirting with you out of respect, but he will damn well be tied to your finger. Will always open doors for you, and give you his coat when you're cold. So many acts of services. At one point you two were at a bar and some private made his way to your side to start a flirty conversation where he swears he got to hands'y. He knew that you were single but he was extremely jealous nonetheless. Eventually he had to leave to get some air. You followed shortly to catch up with him. You confronted him asking what has gotten into him as of late. He never wanted it to come out like this but it sort of just spilled out of him. He rambled on about his feelings before you cut him off with a kiss and a huge grin on your face.
"Shut up nix and take me on a date"
Ronald speirs
-Distance attraction, I don't know what to call it, this is the closest I can get. It just feels right. Basically, Speirs isn't quite love at first sight, he's the guy who needs to really get to know you to start building a relationship like that. However this man has a MASSIVE crush on you. But he's too prideful to say anything seeing how simping for someone isn't exactly in Ron's profile. He just admires you from a distance while simultaneously stuffing his emotions deep down. Much better in his book. Yet he still does his very best to be by your side at every moment possible even though he spends a lot of time trying not to think about how perfect you are. It's you who makes the first move. You obviously like him and you know he does too. It's obvious to everyone but no-one sais a single word. And before you can finish telling him if he wants to go out some time he's already agreeing.
"Yes"
"What?"
"You free Friday?"
Carwood lipton
-childhood friends to lovers. He was the boy next door. You two were friends from first grade through college. Sharing secrets, sleepovers, getting into mischief. Car started crushing on you when you two were teenagers. Said crush continued all the way until you two volunteer to join the paratroopers. War was hell but you seemed to make it just a little bit more manageable. His life in the war picked up significantly and he had a freight train worth of responsibility placed on his shoulders. Yet you never left his side. It wasn't until Austria that he confessed his feelings. He almost felt sick when he told you in fear of losing his best friend. It was short sweet at straight to the point. You were silent for what felt like an eternity. Lip almost took off in fear of rejection. He was stopped in his tracks by the sound of your laughter. He turned to hear you laughing with the biggest smile on your face.
"Clifford carwood Lipton, do you know how long I've been waiting for those words"
Joseph Leibgott
-Enemies to lovers. Your relationship started off Rocky. Your personality clashed and having a civilized conversation was seemingly impossible. Every time your paths crossed it was filled with banter, insults and tension. Sometimes it got to the point where someone needed to intervene. When you would walk into the same room that Joe would be in it's like the air seemed to thicken. The cold stares and passive aggressive comments. As the war progressed your comments never faulted but the tension you ask? It could be felt by an entire room. And all that hate seemed to not leave as bad as a taste in your mouth. Joe knew from the start that he hated and loved you. You know the type of enemies to lovers where it's like 'she's mine' and 'who did this to you?' It's giving that. He got so fed up with replacements trying to whisk you away so he simply grabbed you by the waist and kissed you.
"Don't lever leave with one of them alright sweetheart?"
"Wasn't planning on it"
~~~~~~~
October 1943
It was never a good idea to mix a single female with a Company of deprived men in the Army...but here you are. You found out you were assigned to Easy Company 2nd Battalion 101st Airborne Division in Fall 1943 when they lost one of their medics to an injury. Although you trained separately from the males at Toccoa in the Divisional medical unit and were one of very few females allowed to work alongside men, you got along quite well with most of the guys. You held your own never asking for special treatment or never played the ‘damsel in distress’ card, so Easy Company learned rather quickly that you can keep up.
~~~~~~~
You remember the day you arrived at Aldbourne, England to make contact with the boys of Easy Company. With your reassignment order in hand, you approach a group of soldiers sitting at a picnic bench outside a building. All of them looking a bit rough, but nonetheless smoking and joking with eachother. They take a pause as they notice you approaching them. Some of them sizing you up and down as you carry your duffel full of medical supplies and wearing fatigues that have yet to see the battlefields like theirs have.
“Hey, you lost there, lady?” Private Roy Cobb called out to you, sizing you up again as you continued to walk towards them without faltering.
You shoot the mouthy Private a look of disdain before responding.
“I’m looking for Corporal Roe. I was told to make contact with him as soon I arrived.” You speak to the group as a whole.
They all exchanged looks and a few whispers.
Corporal George Luz stood up.
“Why, I’m Eugene Roe. But around here they call me, ‘Doc.’” He declared confidently with a cocky grin.
The others started to snicker. One laid a heavy pat on his shoulder showing his appreciation of the joke.
You rolled your eyes, releasing an exasperated sigh.
Sergeant Denver Randleman stood from the bench, then walked towards you pushing Luz aside shaking his head as he passed him. He was a larger man. Like a bear. Never removing the cigar hanging out of the corner of his mouth as he spoke to you.
“He’s across the way this way, I’ll take ya to him.” He said, motioning you along in the opposite direction.
“Thank you, Sergeant.” You reply.
“No problem. And it’s just ‘Bull,’ ma’am.” He said politely in his thick Southern accent as he passed you leading the way.
You turn on your heel and proceed to follow Bull, ignoring the distant whistles you heard from some of the men you just met behind you.
~~~~~~~
“I hope the guys haven’t given you too much trouble so far?” stated the actual Eugene ‘Doc’ Roe when you crossed into the designated aid station.
“Nothing I haven’t dealt with before, Doc.” You say with conviction.
Bull chuckled, finding your response amusing.
“Yeah, I bet.” Doc replied before continuing.
“Well, let’s get you in processed here, and squared away. Thanks for bringing her here, Bull. I’m sure those other idiots would’ve just sent her to their barracks.” he said with a roll of his eyes.
Bull nodded with a small wave.
“See you at chow, L/N.” Bull called back to you before he left.
When Bull returned to where the others were still gathered, they bombarded him with questions.
“Did you catch her name??” Sergeant (Sgt) Don Malarkey prodded.
“-is she coming to Easy Company??” Sgt Bill Guarnere interrupted before Bull could answer.
“-did she say anything about me?” Luz questioned.
As the interrogation got heavier, he threw his hands up and removed the cigar from his mouth.
“GUYS!! Take it easy, will ya? You’ll see her later at chow, just don’t attack her with all of these questions right away, k? We don’t want to scare her off now, do we?” He explained as he replaced his cigar and walked away.
They all swapped looks of excitement.
“Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to have me a shower before dinner this evening.” Corporal Joe Liebgott stated while flicking his cigarette butt, rising from the picnic bench, shouldering his rifle.
Tumblr media
“Ok, Liebgott, like you have a shot.” Malarkey teased.
Liebgott turned to him.
“Oh contrare, I feel you underestimate me, Don.” He shot back at Malarkey while walking backwards, then turning back around.
The group scoffed at him collectively.
~~~~~~~
You got to chow early before any of the other men started to show up. You tucked yourself way in the back at a long table in the corner. You made sure to keep your head down, hanging over a tray trying to swallow some of the Army’s finest slop.
“Should’ve just stuck to a dinner roll with margarine.” You whispered to yourself as you grimaced from the last mouthful of mystery meat from your plate.
“Not exactly a high-end dish from The Ritz, now, is it?” Sgt Carwood Lipton joked as he sat down across from you with his own serving of slop.
“Yeah, not quite.” You respond while poking at a hard, clay-like mound on your plate that was supposed to be mashed potatoes.
“You’ll get used to it.” Bull stated as he sat next to you with his tray.
You ‘psh-ed’ at Bull’s statement.
“I highly doubt that. But I’ll make do.” You convinced yourself. “Surprisingly not the worst food I’ve had.” You added.
“Really, there’s something out there worse than this?” Lipton asked astonished as he stirred his cold soup that looked like ketchup and water.
“Oh yeah! Pixley and Ehler’s Diner on Clark Street in Chicago has some questionable selections.” You explained.
“Is that where you’re from?” Corporal Frank Perconte queried as he sat next to Lipton.
“I am.” You replied with pride.
“You Italian then?” Guarnere asked, inviting himself to the conversation, sitting next to Perconte.
“Italian and Irish.” You clarified.
“Ssshh, a goddam Mick-Deigo.” Guarnere sneered crinkling his nose in disgust.
“Leave’er alone, Gonorrhea.” Liebgott interjected sitting next to Bull.
“I’m guessing you're Italian?” You directed at Guarnere.
“Sicilian, actually.” He retorted.
“Hm, you know that Sicilians aren’t real Italians, right? Sicily is just like Australia. All the criminals of Britain were shipped there to be ostracized from the mainland. Sicily is just an island of Italy’s delinquents.” You taunted.
The others “ooooo-ed” in unison. Even Perconte who was the other Italian of Easy company.
“She got you there, Guarnere.” Bull teased.
Everyone laughed. Except Guarnere.
“You think you’re funny?” Guarnere challenged.
You sighed and looked at him deadpan in the face without an ounce of fear to show.
“Come on, Guarnere, she was only dishing out what you gave her.” Perconte defended.
“Shut your trap, Perconte, you should be on my side!” he said slamming a fist onto the surface of the table then pointing at him.
The rest of the table filled up with remaining members of Easy Company that could fit that wanted to see the fight unfold.
You folded your arms in front of you on top of the table and leaned forward, making sure you got Guarnere’s attention, then spoke with distinct fire in your voice.
“You think I’m some dame just showing up here straight out of basic training not knowing how to handle myself with soldiers? I’ve been whistled at, barked at, howled at, catcalled, pinched, ass slapped, and manhandled by the worst of them, pal. You labeling me because of my heritage ain’t gonna do shit to me. But I’ll be damned you disrespect me like I haven’t earned the right to be respected. Just remember, I’m the one that’s going to be tending to you if you get shot in the field, sergeant.”
You glare at him, then rise harshly from your seat, leaving the rest of the table in a state of awe and shock.
“Good job, Gonorrhea. You pissed her off now.” Liebgott pointed out with an audible tsk.
“Fuck her.” Guarnere spit back.
~~~~~~~
As soon as you left the chow hall, you found a spot out of sight to catch your breath and slow your heart rate. You leaned against a post looking up towards the night sky taking deep controlled breaths.
“Corporal L/N?” You’re startled by the voice of Lieutenant (LT) Richard Winters. You snap to attention ready to render a salute, but he waves you down.
“As you were. Are you alright?” He asked as you relaxed your stance.
“Yessir, just getting some fresh air.” You reassured.
He looked at you with skepticism, not believing you were telling him the entire truth.
You continued.
“A room full of men who haven’t showered in a few days can make a gal lightheaded.” You joked.
The corner of LT Winters’ mouth started to curl into a slight grin, trying his best not to laugh outloud at your quick wit.
“I see, L/N. Well rest up, we’ll need you to be ready when we move out for the next mission.” He explained.
“Yes, sir. Have a good night.” You replied.
Winters gave a nod and entered the chow hall.
LT Winters bee lined for his company’s table. His men all greeted him cheerfully as he approached the table.
“Lieutenant, got a seat open right here.” Bull called out, gesturing to your vacant spot.
“No thanks, Bull, I’ve eaten already.” Winters responded. He paused before he continued.
“Just ran into Corporal L/N on the way in-” He paused again to assess the men’s reaction.
Some continued eating, pretending like they hadn’t really heard. Lipton, Bull and Liebgott looked up at Winters waiting for him to continue.
“She seemed somewhat troubled.” Winters finished. He waited for anyone to speak up, looking at the group expectantly.
“Maybe her panties got all up in a twist, sir.” Guarnere offered up sarcastically.
Some of the men chortled in response.
Winters, Bull, Lipton, and Liebgott weren’t amused.
“Well, she only said a room full of foul-smelling males made her dizzy and she needed fresh air.” Winters relayed, while looking at Guarnere suspiciously.
Tumblr media
The men all started to smell their armpits self-consciously.
“Corporal Liebgott.” Winters called out.
“Sir?”
“Get out there and escort L/N to her tent.” Winters instructed.
“Yes, sir.” Liebgott acknowledged.
“L/N will not walk around alone at night, gentlemen. I don’t care who goes with her, but make sure she always has a battle buddy in the hours of darkness. Tracking?” Winters asked, raising his voice authoritatively.
The table responded “yes, sir” simultaneously.
Liebgott rushed out excitedly and hustled down the street to catch you before you got too far.
~~~~~~~
You were aways a bit ahead before Liebgott found you.
“Hey, L/N! Wait up!” He called after you.
You turned around looking for the voice calling your name.
You stopped walking, waiting for Liebgott trotting over to catch up to you.
“Can I help you?” You asked with a little more harshness in your voice than you intended.
“As a matter of fact, I’m here to help you. I have the honor of accompanying you to your barracks.” He responded with enthusiasm and a smile.
You were taken aback. You raised an eyebrow at him.
“Oh?” You questioned before continuing. “That’s quite unexpectedly chivalrous of you.”
“Well, you have Winters to thank for that, it was his idea.” He responded quite bluntly.
You rolled your eyes.
“Hm, I see.” You reply briskly.
Liebgott realized he sounded like an asshole right then.
“Of course, if you approve, I’ll appoint myself your permanent battle buddy from now on.” He extended with his signature smirk as you resumed walking together.
You felt your face heat up. You averted your eyes to the ground so he wouldn’t see you blush. But Joseph Liebgott doesn’t miss a thing. He grinned wider.
“If those are the LT’s orders, then have at it, Liebgott.” You replied coldly.
“Nah, that last part was my idea.” He stated proudly.
You shot him a confused expression, then he winked at you.
You laughed nervously, looking away quickly to break the awkwardness you felt in the pit of your stomach.
He smiled at you affectionately.
“And call me Joe.” He added.
“Y/N.” You reply looking up at him through your lashes.
“Look, sorry if I’m making it weird. And don’t listen to Gonorrhea. He’s just a jackass with a height deficiency. The kid always has some stupid shit to say.” He explained.
You nod trying to suppress a giggle.
“This is me.” You announce as you approach the entrance to your sleeping quarters. You turn to face Joe. “Thank you for the chat, and the company, Liebgott…I mean Joe.” You say dotingly.
“Forget it. So?” He asked.
You were genuinely confused.
“Sooo?” You reply.
“Am I your permanent evening escort?” he asked with a grin and a wink.
This time you laugh outwardly at his attempt at a flirty sexual inuendo.
“If by ‘evening escort’ you mean my nightly walk to and from one location to another, I’d have to say....I’ll think about it.” You respond flirtatiously with a wink in return.
His face lit up.
“Well alright then. We’ll take another test run tomorrow night.” He proposed.
You shook your head smiling, astounded by the level of confidence this man had.
“Good night, Joe.” You finalized as you disappear beyond the threshold of the tent entrance.
Joe Liebgott x reader
A/N: (this is written for the fictional depictions from the show - no disrespect to the real life veterans!) This fic idea has been banging around in my head for a solid year now, but for some reason I'm only just now writing it. Oops. The title comes from "2am" by Foals. Thanks for reading, and I hope that you enjoy! Warnings: alcohol, mentions of the Holocaust, language (one f-bomb and that's it)
For the middle of summer, the night air is cool against your warm cheeks when you stumble out of the hotel lobby, arms slung around the necks of your friends as the three of you lean into each other for support and guidance as you make your way to the curb. The three of you are still laughing at some joke that Luz made back inside when the cab pulls up.
“Here you go.” Careful not to lose his grip on you, Luz opens the back door of the cab and guides you towards the back seat.
You really should be getting back to your hotel, but you don’t want this night to end. And who would, after all the fun you’ve been having with your old friends? It’s nice to see them again, to catch up with them, like you’re finally getting to know them without the constant threat of German artillery fire looming over your heads.
“I’ll take the next one,” you protest.
This makes Babe laugh. “Nope. Drunkest person needs to get home first. We gotta make sure you get in the cab before you pass out.”
You fix your old friend with the best intimidating look that you can manage in your current condition. “You drank way more than me, Heffron.”
Babe chuckles. “But I can actually hold my liquor.”
Well, touché. You can’t argue with that one.
“Can you make it home okay?” Luz asks.
“I’ll be fine,” you promise. After all, you’re not nearly as drunk as they seem to think that you are . . . At least, you don’t think you are.
As if he can see your thought process, Luz laughs. “I’ll swing by tomorrow morning to make sure that you’re still alive.”
Your friends close the door of the cab then. Babe taps the glass of the window twice to signal to the driver that you’re ready to go. On cue, the car pulls forward, slowly pulling out of the hotel’s drive. Only when it nears the exit of the parking lot does your driver finally ask his question.
“Where to?” A voice with a familiar raspy quality wants to know.
The sound is enough to make you freeze, your breath stuck in your throat. Maybe you are drunk. Yes, that must be it – the alcohol making you hear what you want to hear, using some wild manifestation of your subconscious desires. Because you haven’t heard that voice in years. You haven’t seen its owner in just as many. And you certainly didn’t expect to run into him here, of all places.
Your eyes jump to the rear-view mirror. A lump the size of a golf ball appears in your throat. Because even in the faded light of the late summer night, there can be no mistake as to who is staring back at you, waiting expectantly for your answer. Even after all these years, even though you can only see his eyes, you would recognize him anywhere.
“Joe?” Somehow, the words manage to push past the lump in your throat, echoing through the car in the silence that has fallen.
Click-click, click-click. The turn signal methodically keeps time, a metronome as your fellow paratrooper waits for a reply. Though you still haven’t said anything, he takes a right out of the parking lot and eases onto the road.
“Guy behind us was looking impatient,” he says by way of explanation.
It’s Joe Liebgott, you can tell. From the voice, the eyes, the way he tensed when you said his name. Would he have reacted that way if anyone else had said it? Or is it only because of you and the things that happened between the two of you so long ago?
The car is moving and you probably shouldn’t, but you can’t stop yourself from leaning forward, trying to get a better look at him. He’s so close – closer than you ever thought he would be – but he seems unreal and worlds away, like a dream that you can almost, but not quite, reach.
“Is it really you?” You whisper.
Joe sighs, a familiar sound. “Yeah, (Y/N). It’s me.”
“San Fransisco,” you remember aloud, some far away memory of some offhand comment that he once made to someone filtering into your memory. “You always said that you would come back here.”
He only nods. Your heart thuds in your chest. There’s so much to say, to ask, yet it feels like you’re running out of time for it all.
“And now you’re here,” Joe finally says. “With . . . them.”
It takes your brain a second to work out that he means Luz and Babe. Two of the many members of Easy Company who came to the reunion this year. Unlike some people.
“You didn’t come to the reunion.”
“No.” He makes a noise that might be a laugh. “Kind of defeats the purpose when you’re trying to leave the war behind you.”
Leave the war behind you. A slap in the face would have hurt less. Is that why he stopped calling you? Stopped answering your letters? You met during the war, during boot camp, and made it through the whole thing together – from Georgia to the Eagle’s Nest. You had been under the impression that you could make it back to the States . . . Well, at least now you know that Joe had different ideas.
“Then why are you here?” You ask. It’s a fair enough question; Easy Company reunions always generate a lot of attention. Joe happening to be outside of the hotel that was hosting this year’s reunion can’t be a coincidence, can it?
His silence is all the answer that you need.
“You showed up, but you didn’t come inside. Why?” Before he can answer, you add, “And don’t say the thing about leaving it all behind you again. I got that part, okay?”
You can hear Joe’s mouth shut with a click. You hadn’t meant to snap the last part at him. But seeing him here . . . All the anger, the sadness, anything you ever felt about or towards Joe Liebgott that you’ve spent years repressing is now rising to the surface.
“I think you know why,” Joe mutters.
No! You want to snap. No, I don’t understand how you could have left me hanging like that, after all that we went through together, all that we meant to each other.
“I – “ He clears his throat, shakes his head. “I was only hoping to see you. Just . . . I don’t know. I thought that would be enough, if I saw you. I never expected you to get into my cab.”
“And now I’m here.”
“Now you’re here.”
Thankfully the darkness of the night hides your faces from each other. In the solitude it provides, you can feel warmth bubbling and spilling over your eyelids, leaving glossy trails down your cheeks that shimmer gold in the passing streetlights. When it was clear that Joe was done with you, you had decided to leave him and your affections towards him behind. Clearly a part of you never quite let go. That much is clear to you now, as tears escape you without your permission.
Still driving, Joe glances up at the rear-view mirror, catching your eye. Your teary eyes. You can hear the frown in his voice.
“(Y/N)?”
“You left me behind,” you whisper.
For a moment, more silence. Then, “I know. And you know what? It was the stupidest decision that I ever made.”
Yes, it was. For a while, having loved him, having trusted him, felt like the stupidest decision that you ever made. It seems so terribly silly and childish to be sitting behind the man you once loved wholeheartedly – the man who broke your heart – and to wish for nothing more than for the two of you to go back to the way that you once were.
Second times the charm? Or should you follow a policy of “fool me once”?
“I want to go home,” you say. “Can you take me home? Please?”
Joe nods. “Where to?”
You give him the name of the hotel that you’re staying in. The cab fills with the rhythmic click-click, click-click of the blinker as Joe changes lanes, easing the car onto the exit and then navigating onto the quickest route like a master. There are several times when you hear him draw a breath as if to speak, but he never says anything. You keep quiet, allowing him the silence to concentrate on his driving.
Say something! Part of your brain – or is it your heart? – demands. You never expected to see him again, and now the chance is here. The destination is fast approaching, and then what will you do? If only you don’t squander it, this could be your chance to say all the things that have plagued you for years.
The cab slows as Joe sidles up to the hotel. Warm light from the lobby spills out the door and into the back of the cab, beckoning you into its safety. However, something stronger in the front of the cab keeps you firmly in place.
“I can’t sleep alone. Not again.” The words tumble out of your mouth before you’ve even had the chance to register them in your mind.
For the first time since you got into the cab, Joe turns to face you so that you can look at each other head-on. He frowns.
You rush on. “Do you remember Austria? After we liberated that camp, I never thought that I would sleep again. I only got rest because you were willing to flaunt the fraternization policy to come hold me, keep me safe.”
“I remember.”
“I think about that, sometimes,” you admit. You probably shouldn’t have told him that, given him that power over you. But who doesn’t regret the things they say at 2 a.m.?
Joe pushes a sigh, long and hard, through his nose. “Fuck.” He adjusts his position so that he’s leaning further back into the cab, closer to you. Through the darkness, you can see the conflict so clearly on his face, with his wrinkled brow, his frown. It’s so familiar.
“I’m sorry,” Joe says. “I really . . . I was stupid. You deserved better than that. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I thought that I was sparing you.”
“From what?”
“All my pain. My anger.”
“You don’t think I have that, too?”
Joe blinks, like the thought hadn’t occurred to him. When your boyfriend should have been helping you through those things, you had to rely on your old friends from the company instead. You would have helped him through his struggle, if he had only let you.
Then again, Joe Liebgott always had trouble asking for and admitting when he needed help.
“Park the car, Joe,” you say. “No, not here. In one of the parking spots.”
“Why?” Joe asks, even though he’s already pulling into a parking spot – he gets it perfect on the first try, effortlessly.
“Because,” you say. “You’re done driving for the night. You’re coming up to my hotel room and we’re finally going to talk.”
Joe kills the engine, but he doesn’t move from his seat. For a moment he stares at you, like he isn’t sure if this is real, or if he should. He must make up his mind because he nods, gets out of the car, and comes around to open your door for you. In the old days, he would have smirked at you, given you some pick-up line to hear you laugh. Now, he watches you with reserve.
Maybe this is a mistake. But if either of you really feels that what happened was a mistake, then there’s the possibility that it can be fixed, even after all these years. Not in one night, but it will be a start. Tonight, you can do something for Joe that people so often forget that he needs – show him some understanding, some compassion. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll be able to reignite the light that once existed between you again.
This Dance pt. 2 | Joe Liebgott
Tumblr media
Summary: Part two, in which everyone is fighting to hold back exactly what they want to say.
Word count: 3,857
Warnings: SMUT
There was a conversation that needed to happen that Joe Liebgott was not quite bring himself to start. As they stood in the crowded room, the roaring of the speakers around them felt overwhelming. After settling into the quietness of their lives’ new pace, watching the footage from the Pacific seemed a stark and unwelcomed contrast. Liebgott wondered if he would have felt this way if he had not spent the entire fight in Europe wondering what it would be like to start a life with Evelyn Mosey when this was all over. If there was one thought that got him through the blasts, the cold and wet, seemingly endless nights, it was her. And the idea that he would never be without her again.
He tried to steal subtle glances over to her as she watched the footage screen. Her jaw was set. Her full lips pressed into a firm line. Her dark eyes were focused intently, never once bothering to look over at him. He watched a wave of tension ripple in her neck. She tilted her head side to side, rolling her shoulders up to meet her ears. A simple gesture that would have gone unnoticed to anyone but him.
When they shuffled out, he made sure to keep sight of her. The masses that filed out trickled out taking different paths, he made a bee-line for her. Years spent in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to glance, to touch, to speak, he knew how to keep himself at a distance, while still in her warm orbit.
“I don’t want to talk about it now, Lieb,” she told him adamantly, looking down the hallway both ways to ensure that no one else was interested in their exchange.
“I know,” he rolled his eyes. Never had he been with a woman who was so consistently unfeeling when it did not benefit her. “Can I just--”
She watched someone walk past them, behind Liebgott. They exchanged a nod of recognition. Her face fell from its friendly openness to one of frustration when she met his gaze again.
“Just come in,” she opened the door wider and encouraged him to move quickly. “I don’t want to do this out here.”
Liebgott had seen her room since their time began at Zell Am See. The time he spent there was less than he would have liked. If he had imagined a true celebration of the victory in Europe, it would not have been so distant from her.
“I don’t want to talk about this right now.” She was firm in her words, but her hand was gentle as it touched the buttons on his shirt. He nodded and bit the inside of his cheek. He knew there weren’t going to be any words he could say to demand her to comply. He could not claim her strong will was his favorite thing about her and then admonish her for it when it did not benefit him. “Please?”
The way she looked up at him with those large doe eyes made him feel a warmth spread in his chest and abdomen. He touched her face gently and nodded, tracing her jawline with his thumb. He had spent half the fucking war holding back a proposal of marriage, children, a life together. He bit back vows of eternity and forever. He withheld the words “I love you.” Surely one more fucking day made no difference.
She smiled and took him by the hand, slowly backing him towards the bathroom.
There was an electric current that radiated through every vein in his body when she reached to turn the shower on. He was convinced there would never be a time where he was not breathless in anticipation to see her undress. He felt the twitch of need in his groin just thinking of the moment where he would watch the water touch her naked flesh. So when she started to work on the buttons of her shirt, he sat back on the corner of the clawfoot tub with a playful smirk.
Evelyn rolled her eyes as she watched him perch himself on the tub. If there was one thing she was going to miss about Joseph Liebgott, it was going to be his boyish charm. The way his eyes danced over her appraisingly caused her skin to catch light with blue flame, so hot it felt cool and caused her to erupt in goosebumps. She stepped out of her boots skillfully as she worked on the buttons of her shirt. When she pulled it over her shoulders and left it in a pile on the ground, she heard a small whistle from her observer.
Liebgott felt a pang in his stomach while he watched her start to work on her pants. Ignoring all thoughts and feelings (how did she do it?) about what was to come, he focused on the way her deft fingers worked on her buttons, letting them fall to her feet. Though he had ensured that every part of her had been explored by eager hands, lips, and tongue, it was taking everything in him not to get to his knees and help her escort those pants the rest of the way to her ankles.
She stepped out of the last of her clothes with a smile. He bit his lip as he glanced over her body. Evelyn had resigned herself that there would never be another man who made her so hungry to be stared at in this way again. His eyes carried just enough devotion to balance the intense desire that made her feel like the only woman on the planet. He once had told her he would watch her read the phone book just to stare at her lips.
Liebgott licked his lips softly, shifting to adjust the fullness in his pants. No coaxing, no teasing, simply the pure sight of her undressing herself, all for him, caused such a stir in him. It was exactly that gesture that Evelyn watched hungrily, her eyes darkening as she pinned her lower lip between her teeth. That was all the indication Joe needed to close the gap between them.
He braced the back of her head, her dark curls tangling perfectly around his large fingers when he pulled her close. He wanted to taste the spot of her mouth where she had bit down. A needy whimper betrayed Evelyn as it eased up from her throat. It was so very like Joe Liebgott to pull all kinds of unprompted sounds from her eager throat. The way his mouth moved with hers was a dance the two of them had skillfully mastered. Lieb couldn’t help but smirk as he thought about the other kinds of dances she had shared with other men. Nothing could compare to this. Ever.
His hands worked at the buttons of his own shirt. He made a quick and sloppy job of getting it off and tossing it to the floor, his undershirt quick behind it. There was a simple and intense maneuver Evelyn had mastered in getting his belt undone with nimble fingers. It always left him growling against her lips. He gripped her scantily clad behind and squeezed, pulling her hips into his with a force that caused them both to let out a groan.
“Joey,” she breathed, her lips swollen, his pridefully wearing the ghost of her red lipstick. He smirked, feeling himself twitch at the sound of her need. He busied himself with kissing her neck, his thumbs teasing the cups of her bra. She worked to unbutton his pants, chest heaving, eyes heavily lidded.
“Yeah?” He grinned against her skin. She moaned again, biting her swollen lower lip and shuddering as he kissed down over her sternum. “What is it?” he asked teasingly. “Tell me.” The demand was placed just before he nipped at the skin of her right breast. He tugged at his waistband and let his pants fall with a gasp.
“Take me,” she murmured, feeling his desperate length through his boxers with her hand.
“You know how this works, doll.” He smiled, making eye contact with her. He could taste her desperate shudders as he pressed their foreheads together. Their eyes were locked so intensely that she felt him twitch under her hand. “You don’t get any of me until I’ve had my fill of you first.”
She leaned up and kissed him with a groan, reaching around and taking it upon herself to get her bra off. Lieb took the hint and cast his boxers to the floor, slowly stroking himself as she watched her expose every inch of her perfect body to him. The strain his erection had felt boyish, desperate, and fucking incredible. Never in his life did he think he would find himself a puddle of need at the simple sight of a woman.
She knew it, of course. Evelyn teased him with a smirk as she kicked her underwear to the side with a delicate gesture, her toes pointed. She turned and his breath hitched in his throat at the sight of her delicate muscles of her back, the perfect curve of her hips, her ass, her strong thighs. He continued to touch himself, the way she always reminded him to, when he watched her turn on the water. He knew she longed to be needed in the way he needed her. Joe tried not to think about who would prove to her just how incredible she was when he was no longer around. Biting back every question that bubbled over in his throat, he stepped forward, closing the distance between them.
When his chest pressed against her back, Evelyn hummed contently. His length settled against the curve of her rear, his lips near her ear as he leaned down. She watched as his hand traced the length of her arm, leaving a trail of goosebumps with the gentlest touch.
“You are so fucking beautiful,” he whispered into her ear. He pressed his lips to her shoulder as he slowly moved his hand toward her exposed breasts. When his large hand fully enveloped her, she felt the gentle brush of his palm over her nipple that encouraged a moan. He chuckled in her ear as his other hand trailed the curve of her hip toward her desperate center. “Fuck,” he growled, feeling her wetness with the gentle touch of the pad of his finger. Gently pulling her hair up into his fist, he held it away from her neck as he planted hungry kisses on her skin. Sucking, scraping his teeth, flicking his tongue against the sensitive skin where her neck and shoulder met while he drew slow circles around her most sensitive spot. Gasping, pressing back against him, melting into his ministrations, Evelyn felt like she was unable to promise her legs’ ability to hold her up much longer.
“Please, Joe,” she begged breathlessly. “Please.”
Joe chuckled from deep in his chest. She felt it rumble against her back. He took his hand away, missing the warmth of her on his fingers immediately. She turned to him, her eyes heavily lidded with lust, searching his desperately. He smiled at her, took the finger that had worked on her so deftly, and placed it to his lips, flicking his tongue over the pad, his eyes locked with hers.
“Mmm…” He groaned, stepping towards her, backing her into the shower. “God damn…” he growled, watching as her body was hit by the hot water.
Joe watched her, watching the beads of water create paths down over the curves of her body. With her taste on his desperate tongue, his eyes on her perfect body, his heart beating in his chest, he wasn’t sure he would be able to hold out much longer. Whether it was the vulnerability of the space they occupied, the time left together that felt too short, or the intoxicating effect he had on him, he couldn’t distinguish. All he knew is that he had to have her.
There was a beat that passed between them where they were sizing each other up. Evelyn felt the desperation of the moment hit her with a depth she had not recognized. God, if he would just be a little less delicate and loving in those touches, she could excuse away the lump growing in her throat as she watched the way he looked at her. She had always been enough for him. He had always reminded her of that.
In a quick attempt to avoid him seeing the tears welling up in her eyes, she leaned forward and kissed him. The way their lips crashed into one another had an urgency he had not felt from her before. Her hunger was bone deep. He traced her jaw, tenderly caressing her neck, flicking her hair over her shoulder. His length stood at attention between them, gently nudging the flesh of her belly. He rocked forward to feel the friction as he ghosted a gentle trail down her arms to her warm, capable hands.
When he laced their fingers together, she felt him back her into the wall of the shower. The cool tile was an intense contrast to the warm water that hit her front. He laced their fingers together, pressing it gently against the wall beside her head, pinning it there. She watched a coy smirk cross his lips as he pulled away from her. She giggled, tracing the curve of his lower lip, cleaning up the lipstick he had stolen from her mouth. He leaned down and took that thumb between his teeth, flicked his thumb over the pad, and chuckled. She laughed, a playful swat at his cheek against his cheek, pulled her thumb back and replaced it with her lips.
Joe held her against the wall with the weight of his body. Slowly, he started to trail those kisses down over her body, his hand still tightly clasped in hers. He loved the feeling of her grip on his hand tightening as he placed kisses to the more intimate parts of her body. The spot between her breasts, her left nipple, just above her belly button (God, would he miss that fucking giggle), the curve of her hip, the top of her thigh. He directed her hand to the back of his head and left it there, needing both of his hands to tenderly separate her thighs, pulling one up over his shoulder as he got to his knees.
Joe…” she breathlessly tangled her hands in his hair and gripped as he pressed his mouth to the place where she needed him most. There was a wave of gasps that followed that caused him to smirk against her, following the work of his tongue with the addition of a skilled finger.
Mindful of shared walls, used to keeping herself quiet by biting pillows and shoulders, Evelyn was left to trap the back of her hand in her teeth as he worked. Wave after wave of pleasure crashed over her as she touched her, teased her, tongued her with the skill of a much more experienced man. But, she recognized, he was an experienced man. He was a man who knew her so fully that he was able to coax the most unladylike noises from her throat with ease. He knew her inside and out in every way possible. The intimate attention he paid to the details of her body felt like the worship of a deity; the way he enacted that devotion felt sinful.
Overwhelmed by every sensation between her legs, she found herself grasping at the back of his head and shoulders, her hips moving up to meet his attentive mouth and fingers. He moaned against her repeatedly, desperate to draw every curse she knew from her delicate mouth. Grinning with desire, with power, with pleasure, he worked attentively on her body, his only goal to push her to her limits. He stopped the hand that was working at his own length and snaked it up over her body, tracing her edges to take her heaving breast in his hands. They moaned in unison, his sending vibrations to the core of her being. In that moment, she came undone around his fingers, against his tongue, spilling out desperate whimpers and cries of his name. Joe could have spent an eternity in the sound of her sweet need.
Evelyn, on the other hand, was unable to let too long pass without any part of him inside of her. His vacancy was felt immediately when she pulled him to his feet, gently guided by the fistful of his dark hair. She kissed him as if it would be their last, unsure if it would be, and teased a hand over his eager length, guiding him towards her.
Joe, pleased to know she was as needy as he felt, pulled away from her lips and tongue. He gripped her hips and turned her away from him, her ass pulled against his hard length in the most satisfying way. She moaned at the contact, he held his own back. He tucked her hair behind her ear as to not obscure her vision as she turned to look over her shoulder at him. He kissed her temple, her ear, her jaw, neck, and shoulder. His hand encouraged her thighs apart, lifting a leg to the edge of the tub where her foot found purchase.
Swiftly, skillfully, and perfectly, he entered her, pulling a satisfied, guttural moan from deep within them both.
“Fuck,” he gasped against her neck. The way he gripped her hips was bruising as they both accommodate his eager entrance. He felt her skin erupt in goosebumps against his chest. He pressed forward, making sure he reached her depths with all he had. She reached back, stiffening against him, her fingers lacing with his against her hip.
Slowly, consistently, deeply, he started a pace with his hips. The water that fell between them from above made their skin glisten and it pooled where their bodies met. The gentle slap of their skin meeting with gentle force made her giggle. He kissed her cheek, unable to hold back the groans of pleasure that spilled from his lips. She gasped, pushing back against him as she angled herself to take him deeper.
That was all Joe needed to encourage him to pick up his pace. The swiftness in which their bodies collided called new noises from her mouth. He kissed her upper back and shoulders while he steadied himself, pulling her back onto him.
“Oh, god…” she reached toward the wall to find something to grip. The slick tiles gave her no purchase. That was when she reached behind her, wrapping a hand around his neck, gripping the hairs at the base of his scalp. Liebgott groaned loudly, gripping her hips tighter. His other hand trailed up toward her breast, gripping it gently in his hands, memorizing its shape, weight, the hardness of her nipple against his palm.
“You’re fucking incredible, you know that?” He grunted into her ear, only further pulling strings of incoherence from her mouth. She bit her lip hard, feeling an overwhelm of emotion take over her body like a wave. The lump grew double in size in her throat as she met his every thrust, stars behind her eyes. Unable to respond, he continued. “You’re so perfect. Fuck, Evie.” Her name felt like chocolate on his lips. She turned over her shoulder to taste it on them. Her eyes screwed shut as the tears burned behind them, he continued to bring her body to new heights. When he reached down between her legs, she became overwhelmed. The threat of tears was hard to fight off.
“Joe--” she breathed, the sound of his name clipped by the failure to stop a sob from leaving her lips. The phrase he pulled from her next caused her to bite her tongue between her teeth.
“I--” Joe started. She heard the start of her own words start to come from his mouth. The feeling, the desperation of her overwhelming emotions was contagious. He couldn’t tell where his heartbreak, his pleasure, his love, began and where hers ended. The only way to stop himself from telling her just how he felt about her was to sink his teeth in her shoulder, as she had done to him so many times. Familiar with the sensation, Evelyn felt the pressure, the sting, and every unsaid word behind the contact on her shoulder. She turned away, fearful he would stop if he saw the tears cascading down her cheeks, he would stop. She screwed her eyes shut as she felt a heat building inside of her.
Desperate to feel her come undone around him, under him, with him, he teased her more intentionally with his fingers, his hips working in time with his skillful touch. If he couldn’t tell her, he could show her.
“Please,” she begged. He had come to know it as the last phrase, the last push, before he was gifted with her orgasm. “Joe--”
As he felt her start to push back against him, taking every inch of him, all of him, so intentionally. The feel of her as she let go, her body working desperately to pull him over the edge with her, he followed. The two of them tumbled over together, a tangled mess of limbs, pants, sobs, and everything they swore they’d never fucking say.
