🌙 moon: do any of your OCs have dark backstories or secrets they’re trying to keep?

What is a character but a miserable little pile of secrets?

Which is to say yes, of course. On a not-so-deep level, Addison and Rosamund both spend most of book one of Auberon keeping her manifestation a secret. But there's plenty of deeper stuff, too (though not necessarily with those characters). Christie's also got a "dark" backstory, in regards to her being kidnapped and (sort of) remembering it.

thank you @sarandipitywrites for the nine lines, nine people tag! i'll share something i wrote today on my nano project that made me wiggle with joy.

“Would you accompany me?” the Gravedigger asks. They don’t intend to; the question slips from their tongue like the autumn leaves from the trees, stirred by something outside of their conscious mind. Is it their desperation for protection from the monsters that lurk beneath the trees? Their fear of the dark now that their candle has been extinguished by the cold? Maybe it’s that hollowed ache in their chest, slowly swallowing their ribcage whole since they buried their father in the same plot as their mother, tucked behind the cottage away from the other graves. Their own loneliness speaking through them like a ghost. The Beast appears just as surprised to hear them ask as the Gravedigger is. “If that is what you would like,” he replies slowly. “Lead the way.”

9 Lines, 9 People Tag Game

Thank you @k-v-briarwood for tagging me. These are some lines from yet another magical boy transformation sequence, because I can't get enough of writing them and I think I finally figured out how I wanna go about them.

Whatever invisible entity forced him to 'transform' last time nudges at his chin gently, almost as if apologising for its previous misconduct. Beau scoffs, "It doesn't matter how gentle you are, you're going to do it anyway, right?" Intense heat envelops him, like an internal furnace has been set ablaze inside his body. The flames burn through him, faster than last time, but the embers smoulder for longer. He trembles under the feather-light, hot touch. They're like swift brush-strokes —made by a steady, yet tender hand— there where his veins carry blood to different parts of his body. It's over before the fire could truly settle under Beau's skin, but the pace has left him panting for breath. His heart hammering in his chest. "You did not want to go slow," A deep voice explains in his ears, stern but not callous, "so you got your wish."
