So, I saw the Kagome Kagome song post and because I'm a huge nerd about children's songs because I like to dig into them like I do with mythology and the like, I find it funny both Irene and Kagome have names in old songs ("Kagome, Kagome" and "Goodnight, Irene", an American folk standard song that was first recorded in 1933) that have multiple versions and some versions/translations of the lyrics can be dark, especially since older versions of "Goodnight, Irene" talk about the singer's frustration and sadness over being parted from Irene and how the singer's not handling it well. I don't know if you planned that, but I thought it was really cool.

ALSJSKSNSKS THERE’S A FOLK SONG FOR THE NAME IRENE!????? I AM GOING TO HAVE TO FIND THAT IMMEDIATELY.

I love the whole Kagome, Kagome plot line in the Final Act. It was so good, also, the song is just really catchy lol. I find it super interesting that Kagome herself is actually both bird and cage.

Because, to the Sacred Jewel, Kagome was the cage that it was trapped in, reborn into her body after Kikyo died and made her wish to live her next life as a normal girl. However, much like how Kagome hates the song, the Sacred Jewel hated and resented Kagome, fearing her, as she was it’s cage and had such immense spiritual power.

It hated and feared her so much, it locked away the most of it, preventing her access to it, and thus Kagome became the bird, unable to fly as she was restrained by the jewel that was once trapped (however unknowingly) by her.

Also, I may or may not have made that post because I’m including the song in the next chapter, lol. Gotta get that foreshadowing in!!! It’s a very Kagome centric chapter so far.

I FOUND THREE VERSIONS OF THE IRENE SONG!!! But I like this one most so far.

It amuses me greatly that it involves a river, seeing as it was a river stream Irene was pulled into (via a pentagram) that led to her traveling through time, and drowning? Seeing as Irene once attempted to drown herself when she became depressed, believing for a while that the Inugang died. Also,

“I wish dear Lord that I'd never seen your face, I'm sorry you ever were born. Irene, good night, Irene, good night. Good night, Irene, good night, Irene, I guess you're in my dreams.”

The “Goodnight” could be taken as Irene’s death, especially since she died in the middle of the night. The Inugang isn’t sure if she’s alive or not. “Stay there by the fireside bright” in the sense that the Shikigami take on their forms through flames.

“Good night, Irene, good night, Irene. I guess you're in my dreams. I love Irene, God knows I do. I love her 'til the sea runs dry. If Irene turns her back on me, I'm gonna take morphine and die”.

She literally ends up leaving the Feudal Era for a while after Anastasia is defeated 😭
