Hello! I’ve been wondering something for some time now. In Kami no Kohitsuji Agnus Dei, if I’m not mistaken, Gilbert is said to have a descendant (?) along with Serge. However, if Gilbert died unmarried, how did he have a descendant? Or did he have a child outside of marriage? I tried finding some information but still couldn’t really get anything. Maybe it’s just me not reading everything thoroughly 😭

Well, Gilbert has descendants, in the last volumes of the manga when Serge and Gil go to Paris, they meet a young girl called Camille.

This girl, although she is very young and knows that Serge is in a relationship with Gilbert, does not hide her passion for the pianist.

At one point, the two boys fight and Serge leaves, leaving Gilbert alone in their small apartment. At that time, Camille provokes Gilbert and offers to sleep with him, and he accepts.

After that it is shown that the two actually had intercourse, Camille is shown happily in bed while Gilbert is serious as ever, and it was from this act that Camille became pregnant.

She had a child (I can't confirm if it's a boy or a girl) who also had a child and gave birth to Gilbert's grandson that we can see in Agnus Dei.

Prologue "Le Grand Banquet d'Eté"

Parfois Fran se demandait.

Tout a commencé exactement comme dans un conte de fées.

En juillet 196X. Par une chaude après-midi d'été...

Bien que ce soit la période des vacances, le couloir de la maison du vicomte Battour était littéralement rempli d'un nombre impressionnant de personnes élégamment habillées.

Bientôt, les serviteurs en queue de pie apparaissent et escortent habituellement la vague de personnes dans le jardin.

En se promenant dans le manoir, Fran a contemplé avec étonnement le somptueux intérieur rococo, et lorsqu'elle est entrée dans le jardin, elle est restée sans voix devant son immensité. Elle connaissait Paris et sa banlieue, mais seulement la banlieue, elle ne pouvait donc pas imaginer un tel manoir.

Toute cette immensité se mêlait parfaitement à la beauté du jardin français, et Fran s'est soudain sentie seule.

- "Hors de propos serait plus correct", a soudainement souri la jeune fille.

L'invitation au "Grand banquet d'été" du vicomte Battour, célèbre dans les milieux mondains, était étrange pour Fran, simple élève du Conservatoire de Paris.

Des robes de bal ou des queues de pie brillantes, des mots élégants inconnus ont clignoté comme les pièces colorées d'une mosaïque, rendant Fran encore plus solitaire.

Séparée de la vague humaine et pénétrant dans le jardin anglais attenant, Fran s'est assise sur un banc en bois avec un soupir de soulagement. Contrairement aux arbres artificiellement plantés et taillés en fleurs du jardin français, le naturel du jardin anglais plaisait davantage à Fran.

- Vous vous ennuyez, mademoiselle ?

Une voix soudaine est venue de derrière et a presque fait sursauter Fran.

- Je vous demande pardon. Je m'appelle Gustave Kahn, reporter pour le magazine PLEIADES. Je vous ai déjà vu, mais vous êtes parti seule si vite...

C'était un jeune homme mince et grand, âgé de vingt-cinq ou six ans. Le smoking ivoire se marie parfaitement avec ses cheveux bruns.

- Je suis Françoise Vian. Mais tout le monde m'appelle Fran. Une étudiante de deuxième année au conservatoire.

- Une musicienne en herbe, non ?

- Je suis spécialisée dans la théorie. J'étudie la musique de manière académique... c'est un cours similaire au département d'art.

-Et bien, alors vous pourriez être un docteur en musique ou un critique.

Le jeune homme désigna de sa main Fran, dans laquelle se trouvait un verre d'apéritif.

-Je vous demande pardon. Je ne suis pas du tout habitué à ce monde et je suis dans l'embarras.

-C'est la première fois que vous participez à un tel banquet ? La nourriture est étonnamment bonne. Mais c'est à peu près tout. Pour faire simple, la famille Battour ne peut pas se vanter d'une excellence particulière.

-J'ai entendu des rumeurs, mais je ne savais pas que la famille du vicomte était si riche.

-Au contraire, c'est vrai. Après tout, c'est le talent de cette famille d'accroître sa richesse au détriment de la guerre. Ils sont célèbres, mais il est difficile de rester une famille unie.

-Oui, mais il y a un grand musicien parmi eux. Serge Battour, vous le connaissez ?

-Oui, juste son nom, mais il arrive une fois par siècle. C'est étonnant que dans une famille de réalistes, il y ait un musicien.

-J'ai pensé écrire un article sur ce Serge Battour, j'écris beaucoup ici depuis l'année dernière. Ça ne ressemblait à rien, et puis soudain, juste avant les vacances, c'est arrivé.

-Vous avez été invité au banquet de ce soir. Et pourtant, inviter des étudiants est inhabituel.

-Hmm, j'ai reçu une réponse d'un certain Henri Battour.

-Henri, Henri, je ne le connais pas... Bien que je sois en bon contact avec la famille Battour. Mais même les parents d'autres pays se réunissent au banquet.

Fran, pour prouver qu'elle ne mentait pas, a sorti précipitamment une lettre de sa pochette et l'a tendue au jeune homme.

-Je peux le lire ? Ah, ces armoiries sur le sceau appartiennent sans aucun doute à la famille Battour. Donc, "Madame Françoise Vian...

J'ai reçu une lettre. Je suis prêt à répondre à certaines questions sur les origines de Serge Battour.

C'est incroyable. On dirait que vous êtes parents. Il semble que j'ai été irrespectueux... Vous devriez peut-être demander au majordome ou à la gouvernante pour M. Henri. Toute la famille Battour, hommes et femmes, est célèbre pour sa beauté. Les hommes en particulier ont un nez droit et de grands yeux. Vous les reconnaîtrez donc immédiatement grâce à ce trait distinctif. Si vous restez ici, vous n'entendrez pas la cloche pour le dîner.

Le jeune homme a pris la main de Fran avec un salut et s'est précipité vers la maison. Sa réaction laissait entendre que seuls les proches resteraient à l'intérieur après le dîner.

"Est-ce que je pourrai... ?"

La salle à manger était entièrement préparée pour le banquet et toute décorée de roses orange et roses. Elles devaient provenir d'une boutique de fleuriste parisienne, toutes ces roses en grand nombre, décorées en collage et entraînant les gens dans un monde de rêverie. La grande table centrale était entourée de plus petites tables. Il y avait la place la plus basse dans le coin de la pièce, et bien sûr Fran s'y est positionnée contre le mur. Elle craignait qu'une dame rigide ne s'assoie à côté d'elle, mais par chance, il s'agissait d'un magnat du pétrole américain, et Fran, en raison de sa faible connaissance de l'anglais, s'est entièrement consacrée au repas. Comme l'avait dit le jeune homme Kahn, la nourriture jusqu'au dessert était exceptionnelle, grâce au chef engagé.

Une fois le dîner terminé, les gens se sont dispersés dans le salon et la salle de jeux, et Fran est restée seule. Bien que légèrement fatiguée, elle a attrapé un domestique supérieur pour demander où se trouvait M. Henri, mais n'a rien reçu d'autre qu'un froid "je ne demande pas à savoir" et "s'il vous plaît, n'entrez pas ici".

En fin d'après-midi, les gens se pressaient à nouveau dans le couloir pour rentrer chez eux. Fran réfléchissait déjà à la manière dont elle allait rentrer seule et à ce qu'elle allait dire en guise d'adieu, lorsqu'une voix féminine obligeante a retenti à proximité.

-Mme Françoise ? C'est Mlle Françoise ! Je t'ai cherché partout. J'avais peur que tu sois déjà parti, alors j'ai attendu ici.

Une jeune fille de deux ou trois ans plus jeune que Françoise a eu du mal à retenir ses larmes de joie.

-Je cherchais aussi M. Henri.

-Je suis désolée. M. Henri a dit qu'étant donné que la journée était trop mouvementée, il vous rencontrera demain. Je vais vous conduire à votre chambre immédiatement...

La jeune fille s'est précipitée vers l'armoire et en a sorti le manteau de Fran et sa valise blanche.

-Ta chambre est à l'étage, fais attention dans les escaliers.

La jeune fille était habillée d'une robe noire et d'un tablier blanc à volants, comme si elle était à la Belle Époque. On ne sait pas si le maître s'était habillé de cette manière pour respecter l'atmosphère du manoir, et Fran n'était manifestement pas préparée à une telle ringardise, mais la jeune fille semblait tout à fait satisfaite de sa position.

Un labyrinthe de couloirs s'étendait depuis l'escalier, et s'arrêtait finalement à la mansarde, ce qui fit penser à Fran qu'elle n'était clairement pas la bienvenue ici.

Cependant, une telle chose ne briserait pas Fran. La jeune fille a à peine gardé son sang-froid et est restée calme, comme elle l'avait fait en cherchant à gagner la confiance de ses camarades de classe. En raison de sa petite taille, elle n'était pas prise au sérieux en tant qu'élève du lycée, mais à peine commençait-on à lui parler, qu'on sentait immédiatement qu'elle était intellectuellement plus âgée, c'est le genre de fille qu'elle était.

À l'intérieur, la pièce mansardée s'est avérée être meublée avec goût, avec des meubles d'un design complexe qui ont plu à Fran. Le papier peint, décoré de fleurs d'été, semblait neuf, et il y avait une salle de douche équipée, bien qu'étroite. En ouvrant la haute fenêtre et en laissant l'air de la nuit entrer dans la pièce, Fran a enfin pu se détendre véritablement.

So I was yesterday years old when I learned about Kami no Kohitsuji: Agnus Dei and according to a few comments Serge apparently engaged in some Bad Suspect Stuff shortly before [SPOILER]. Is it as bad as they're saying or is more context needed? I've only read a few summaries so far, via Google Translate.

Hello anon, I'm sorry for taking so long to answer your question.

This time I don't have much information, because I only know a few parts about the story of Agnus Dei, I couldn't read the whole novel. But according to people who read it, this is what happened:

Serge married Irene and had a son named Leon, he was unhappy in his marriage because he only married his wife because she looked like Gilbert, and now his son was also becoming like Gilbert. So he decides to leave and work at Lacombrade, where he gets involved into a relationship with a teenage student, just the way some teachers were with Gilbert when Serge was a teenager.

The reasons that led him to do it are unknown, only those who read the whole story can confirm, but I have a theory:

Serge never got over Gilbert's death and always tried to keep someone like him around, he did when he married Irene, and probably he found some boy like Gilbert in Lacombrade and decided to get involved with him to make himself feel better.

I know, it's really disgusting, Serge knew how bad attitudes like that were for Gilbert, and he ended up turning into the people he hated so much.

I'm also always searching for an English translation or copy, but I didn't find it either. There's an English translation for Kofuko no Hato, but we don't have for Agnus Dei.

Thank you for your question, I’ve made a research (both in English and in Japanese) and I couldn’t find anything. I only found Japanese websites where you can buy the physical version.

If anyone have more information, please comment and share this post. Let’s help each other.

And you said you have the physical version, may i ask where did you buy it?

I really hope we eventually find a translation, because I’ve only read the KazeKi translation and Koufuku no Hato (The Dove of Hapiness) translation.
