Oh, the pain of this scene and the reality behind it, the difference between boyfriend and husband, between sharing a life together and being able to legally bind yourselves together. The agony of knowing that you are literally everything he has and that it is not enough to let you help him.
This is why we need legalized marriage for everyone, this is why the legalities matter, this is why we fight for what we can because it matters in the end, it matters so, so much.
Piseang can do nothing because there is nothing legally tying them together and there is nothing to do. He cannot fight this. He cannot love Kawi enough to overcome this.
Love is not enough. Love does not give him the rights he does not have, does not cut through red tape, does not open doors. Love may light his life and love may be beautiful and love may move mountains but love cannot make the choices he needs to make.
Love cannot make a medical decision or give him permission to stay with Kawi. Love cannot open the doors or let him sign the paperwork. Love cannot do anything. Love is not enough. The freedom to love is not enough.

Top 10 2023 BL Kisses
If you've seen at least a couple BLs you know that some of these actors are either uncomfortable kissing another man or just didn't get enough practice kissing literally anyone. So when they get it right and genuinely seem to be enjoying themselves, it is worth noting. Soooo grab a pen and paper, and take some notes:
You Are Mine: This Taiwanese drama was problematique with the unbalanced workplace power dynamics, but this sweet upside down kiss was worth the wait.
Dangerous Romance: This may not have been their first kiss, but it felt like the most romantic. By this point, they'd shared many scenes filled with awkward sexual tension, but this one didn't have an ounce of humor, and Kanghan and Sailom just melted into each other's arms.
Kiseki: Dear to Me: The lighting for this kiss really emphasized their till-death-do-us-part themed dialogue where they vowed to die seconds apart.
Stay By My Side: Lackluster supernatural subplot aside, this Taiwanese drama delivered the most adorable kiss as the main lead was too nervous to give in to his desires without closing his eyes.
Be My Favorite: It took Kawi a frustratingly long time to pull his head out of his ass and realize he would be lucky to have Pisaeng even as a friend let alone a boyfriend. Thank goodness for Pisaeng's patience, cause ours was wearing thin.
Love Class 2: Very happy Ma Ru realized he had feelings for his bestie and wasted no time making that clear with an epic kiss that I have probably rewatched a dozen times.
Only Friends: Honestly, all of their kisses were incredible, because both of these actors went from supporting characters to lead roles, and did not skip a beat. There was no awkward beginner's kiss phase. Those intimacy workshops must've been lit.
Step by Step: Their kiss chemistry was on point, but the car scenes were the most memorable for how very possible they would've been caught in the act in the parking garage of their place of employment. Caution meet wind.
Wedding Plan: These two were about five seconds away from making a baby in that car, and if this were the omegaverse, they probably would've.
Hidden Agenda: There was hunger in that kiss on both sides, and it took every ounce of strength in Zo to shove Joke out the door once he made his intention clear.

Drunken Kisses & Mixed Feelings
Kawi has now kissed Pisaeng twice and each of those times he's been drunk.
We know that Pisaeng was okay the first time it happened (eyes open; face relaxed),
but something is different this time around. He's confused and conflicted (eyes closed; brows furrowed).
Going back to the trailer, we see that they get into an argument after the second kiss. My guess is that Kawi getting drunk and kissing Pisaeng has happened more than a couple of times in this timeline (this might be especially true now that we know Kawi is an alcoholic who is very unhappy in his personal life).
Pisaeng has been fine hanging out on the sidelines as Kawi’s friend and "comfort zone" but it’s really difficult to do that when Kawi keeps crossing the line. Pisaeng has had enough and it will all come to a head in the next episode and I am looking forward to seeing it.
As a reprieve from the angst, it looks like we might also be getting a drunken kiss attempt from Pisaeng after Kawi has asked to date him.
Such a great callback to our runaway groom's first drunken kiss—the one that started it all.
Is it next Friday yet?!

My favorite implication in Be My Favorite is that when Kawi got sick, it is entirely possible that he moved to Pisaeng's side of the bed.
Throughout the montage, we see Kawi sleeping on the left and Pisaeng on the right.
The only time Kawi's on the right and Pisaeng's on the left is when one or both of them is awake while reading or gaming or watching something, so it's presumably, like, when they're just hanging out during the day or before bed.
But when Pisaeng gets sick, he says he's going to sleep early, and he goes to the right side of the bed. And then Kawi takes care of him and presumably catches whatever Pisaeng had.
So, y'know, one of the most heart-wrenching things in the world to me is when a character who struggles with expressing themselves does something that hints at how deeply they feel through actions. And Kawi feeling so physically miserable he can't get out of bed to go to work so he migrates across the bed to the scent of Pisaeng's hair on his pillow and the lingering warmth of his body in the sheets absolutely slaughters me.
I love this fucking show so much.
It feeds me so well.

I'm obsessed with how Be My Favourite queers the straight narrative so beautifully. The show literally starts off with a straight romance cliché (lead doesn't get the girl, regrets it for the rest of his life until he goes back in time to fix things) and if you hadn't read the tags or the synopsis you could be 100% forgiven for thinking it was just another straight time travel romance. Heck, even Kawi, the literal main lead, and Pisaeng, his actual love interest, think they're in a straight time travel romance for 7 and 1/2 episodes.
You can literally see the two opposing narratives fighting with one another, the "tradional" romance narrative fighting against its queering and maintain the status quo and then slowly coming undone as it becomes clear that the queerness was always there it had just never had a chance to flourish.
Be My Favourite is making a very pointed statement about queer narratives and queer visibility in media and I love love love love it.

I just want to point out the way kawi is looking at pisaeng while pisaeng is not looking
his eyes are literally saying "what did I do to deserve such an amazing person next to me" and this thought brings a smile on kawi's face
this smile is so pure and genuine, his eyes are so pure and genuine (and may I add that this actor is phenomenal in communicating so many different emotions with only his eyes? I'll add it cause it's a fact)
the way pisaeng takes care of him expecting nothing in return is what leads them to this moments. kawi just feels the need to cuddle and caress him because he finds him so adorable and he can't believe that someone that he considers so perfect and so loved by everyone would actually choose to love HIM
basically this is the reason behind kawi's kiss. it's a thank you, it's an "I care about you even tho I suck at showing it" it's an "I'll give you this kiss because you deserve it and I really wanna give you one" it's just a drunken kiss, it's nothing but it's everything at the same time. amazingly shot and amazingly acted
