Petition for Kijo's (Byakuya's dad) appearance in fics to be changed. Like, the dude doesn't appear in a lot of fics but when he does, it's mostly Naegami.
And there he's portrayed as an abusive, homophobic jerk. And that technically isn't wrong nor is it right. We know nothing about Kijo, so he can literally be whatever.
But I think it would be so much more interesting that instead of being portrayed as abusive, he's just very manipulative. That is kinda what makes the most sense, to me at least. Like, as the CEO of the Togami Corporation, he probably can be very charming.
So, imagine this. Byakuya introduces Makoto (or whoever. Not a Naegami shipper but just using this as an example) and Kijo seems to be fine with it. He even seems to like Makoto.
But secretly he's planning to destroy Makoto's life. He hates Makoto- he is ruining Byakuya and he can't have that.
That would create a whole new layer of angst and that would be very fun to read.
But in the end, do whatever you want. Can even make him a silly (maybe even gay) dude. I would already be happy if he just appeared more.

Kijo gets blackout drunk and wakes up gay married to Jin and he's like "this might as well happen"
Because the kirigiri family is a big deal, detective or not, and who is going to tell Kijo Togami gay marriage can't happen? Throw enough money at the right people and they'll make it happen.

love love love seeing Kijo Togami headcanons on the byakuya tag AAAAAAAAA and honestly it got me inspired to share my own!!!!! heheheheh I kinda homebrewed the Plot Twist™ and new lore regarding... certain things... from Project Raincode into this so if you don't want spoilers for that I don't recommend clicking the read more. Though that being said it's very much a homecooked-homebrewed version of it so it's also not reflective of what's canon in the universe also. The plot twist IS still talked about however!
so a lot of my writing for Kijo is centered around my own lore (which contains a lot of oc x canon because hehe funny i have no self control) so I'm mainly gonna be focusing on the stuff that isn't super duper specific to that. Also, all of this takes place in the Non-Despair Timeline.
So first of all, tl;dr on my funky version of the Homunculus Project is that some people either became homunculi via injection of DNA or they could have a body double. Body doubles could either live alongside the host OR have their consciousness transferred into a homunculus body. Typically, only high ranking people were offered the latter option. Also in my take on it, they found a way to negate the sunlight sensitivity and the Amaterasu Corporation cut corners that unintentionally made it so all of their subjects to have the issue. The Unified Government's experiments also successfully prevented permadeath, but they didn't know the effect was only short term and after a certain number of years "dying" would result in zombification.
•Kijo was one of the very first people to have his consciousness transferred into a Homunculus body, since he was extremely eager to become even more perfect than he already was. He was a huge backer and part of the project as a whole, seeing as the Togami Conglomerate has such a prominent place in the global government.
•One of the head scientists, a french DNA sequencer, was also one of the very first people to do this as well. She was able to do so despite not having the same status as the billionares because she contributed so much to the project. She decided to work on the project because she was born infertile and wanting nothing more than to have a kid of her own, and being transplanted into a new body was, at least in her mind, the only way to achieve that dream.
•Kijo overhears this and has the idea of procreating a homunculus child. Homunculus children at this point were being given to non-homunculus surrogate volunteers (basically how everyone else who went to Hope's Peak got to exist. It was never a school for the gifted-it was secretly a containment zone for all of the test tube homunculi babies aside from "Lucky Students" like Makoto and Reserve Course students.) She agrees since it's everything she's ever wanted, despite knowing that one day she'd have to give him up when the time came.
•The Woman would be allowed to bear Kijo's child, and he was predetermined to be the heir of the company. However, the traditional competition and inheritance contest had to continue as normal in order to maintain the illusion that there weren't genetically modified children in the family. Her son was never to find out, and him and his father were to rule to corporation for eons to come while also spreading homunculus DNA and offspring to those deemed worthy.
•Byakuya's mom never told him that he was basically destined to win. She raised him with love and care and all the formal training any Togami child would normally have needed to compete and be worthy of the title. It pained her to see him go, but she got to experienced the thing she'd always wanted.
•Byakuya doesn't find out ANY OF THIS until his dad "dies" (since the project ended up being faulty and nobody knew that the immortality effects did not stop the body from giving out on itself,) and subsequently gets reincarnated as a zombie within a day. It crushes him, he is full of angst and confusion, like imagine your whole life you believe your talents were earned not given, and they turn out to be given instead of earned (this is actually where more of the oc x canon lore comes in because my character also suffers from genetic modification, and her altered DNA is what cancels out the effects of his altered DNA. We have an in-joke in my friend group that Chere gave Byakuya radiation poisoning and that's why he's allowed to live almost painlessly lmfao) that and like, imagine knowing that one day your body is gonna just give out on you and you'll wake up the next morning as a zombie. that's kinda scary man ngl
•tl;dr: Byakuya Togami is a superhuman because his dad and mom are genetically modified superhumans. His dad wanted to play god and raise a god heir. Byakuya did not choose this path and now has to suffer the consequences of it. Byakuya is also the ONLY homunculus child that was born from two homunculi, all the others were surrogates. That's why he's the Ultimate Perfection ;) ...this probably doesn't make much sense and is like SUUUUUPER fucking out there and weird but I'm posting it anyway I'm tired of being a coward

The Ishimarus and Togami family having been acquaintances before is one of my favorite hcs to see. Because then it gives me more of a need to give Takaaki a terrible love life experience with Mr. Kijo Togami kfndje.
He meets his father's friend who is a very wealthy man. They knew each other from politics and Takaaki was honestly less thrilled than anything. He didn't care who his father was acquainted with, he had his own responsibilities to worry about than meeting friends of his father. Though, Mr. Togami did have a handsome son...
After Kijo and Takaaki got to know each other, they seemed to just not stop staring at each other. Kijo's intense gaze with Takaaki's just as intense gaze meeting the other's.
They couldn't keep their hands off each other.
Whenever they could, they'd just hide away in the Togami family's study and have their moment of passion. Now, Takaaki has fallen hard for this man. Meanwhile Kijo just saw him as just someone to use for his own pleasure more than anything. He didn't think anything more of Takaaki...
And Takaaki was fine with that. What harm can it be than to just fuck? Hidden away from the world. He knew Kijo didn't love him. And he was just fine...fine. Things started to just fizzle out and they just stopped their arrangement and that was it. It wasn't anything more than just them fucking and getting their kicks.
Though, it did make Takaaki a bit awkward meeting Kijo again randomly while just living life. But he didn't want to dwell on that, it was the past and Kijo didn't matter to him anymore. He laughs sometimes because he thinks that man just forgot him entirely. And it's to just keep himself from hurting...

I just wanted to get a reference down for the worst father of all time who is more morally dubious than canon Kijo.
I decided to lean more into the wyrm reincarnation thing that happens and elected to give him more dragonlike features and weird little legs that match.

Danganronpa Togami: Misc Championship Affiliates
Now here we have the DRT LCC cast that weren’t exactly participants, but did have involvement in the process, barring a few major exceptions. Made via Novel AI.
DISCLAIMER: This is just what I think the cast of DRT looks like. Having any other interpretation is super fine! Go nuts! It’s valid!
Tumblr media
Kijo Togami
“The leader of the Conglomerate! We...don’t actually know him all that well. He gets some voice lines, but no physical appearance. I always imagined he’d be greying up in the years, but would use the conglomerate’s funds to make him look as young as possible, while still be imposing. Trying to keep up the imposing figure angle.”
--
Tumblr media
The Makkabes
“Aren’t they a cute couple? I always imagined the MAkkabes to not necessarily be old, but still look older than someone like Yusuke. So I’m glad this design came to be.”
--
Tumblr media
Polaris P. Polanski
“And here we have pretty much the most popular DRT girl, heck most popular DRT character herself: Polaris P. Polanski. Granted, she’s pretty much just Byakuya Togami, but I guess that goes to show you how impressionable his character is. Gave her a blue-themed outfit to match her eyes. For someone who doesn’t get much screentime, she really captured a lot of people’s heart’s huh?”
--
Now, you might be wondering by now: Where is Blue Ink? Or Kazuya? Or Suzuhiko even? Well, by the end of this series those guys will be for last given their high prominence! Rest assured, you’ll see them soon. Tomorrow, though, is a real myst’ry!~

thinking about how the Togami Family™️ holds cruelty and misery as virtues of Strength and how thoroughly engrained that is in togami's character. also thinking about how naegi's whole entire character is that his strength comes from his kindness and desire to create a more pleasant future. thinking about how togami's entire character arc is about realizing that strength comes in many forms and that allowing yourself the space to be emotional actually leads to a greater resilience than just. bottling all of it up. thinking about That.

No that’s what I mean. Like at first, Toko sees Chihiro, and then faints. Then ‘wakes up’, apparently dazed and confused. But we know now that was not what was happening, that was just Jill coming out. For the first time since Toko awoke in the school. And they were a considerably toned down version of the ‘crazy Jill’ we saw later too — like she was in the middle of gaging the situation, figure out what is going on. And once she realises she is being filmed, and probably is about to be exposed in some sort of trial of some kind, decides to play things up, as they always planned to if caught. When in reality, despite everything, Jillian would be quite sane.
Tumblr media
Fair enough but really, this isn't that serious a scenario. I just think it would be very fucking hilarious if she was openly talking about all the stuff everyone else have forgotten. Imagining Kyoko's face and Makoto's blush when she just goes "did they break up, he's usually all over her?" or Byakuya's shock and visceral anger at her somehow knowing he's into men (the heir of the Togami Corporation is super closeted, there's no way that fucked up man he calls father is progressive) or even like, her just straight up going "ey Ikusaba why're you pretending to be your whorish sister?" is amazing

Something that I’ve been interested in for the past few months or so (maybe more) is the relationship Byakuya has with his father, Kijo Togami.
Like, a lot of people- at least in fanfics- make him abuse... and homophobic- most fics with him are Naegami- so yeah. Even though we know next to nothing about him
But, what I like to headcanon is that he isn’t abusive or anything. Like, he’s actually a kinda good father. He makes sure to spend quite some time with Byakuya, though most of that time is business related.
I like to headcanon they have a good relationship because that makes the reveal at the end of THH that the whole Togami family is gone just so much worse. Like, Byakuya did not only lose his future since the Togami Corporation is gone, but also his father.
This doesn’t mean I headcanon Kijo to be a good person- he’s far from it. When asked how many children he has, he’ll just say one.
Just Byakuya.
Because in his mind, that’s the truth. In his mind, his other ‘children’ don’t exist (keep in mind I’m not following the Togami light novel with this) because those other children failed. They’re now just commoners. So, they’re dead to him.
He has also probably got a few people- most likely rivals- murdered or something. He’s far from a good person.
But, he has a good relationship with Byakuya. Byakuya is his heir. The only child that didn’t fail him. The child that is perfect in his eyes. This probably plays into Byakuya’s ego as well.
Like, Kijo feeds into Byakuya’s ego because he thinks that’s what Byakuya deserves- e truly thinks that Byakuya is perfect, just like himself.
So, in short. Kijo Togami is most likely a very selfish, cruel and cold man. But, he does love his only child.

Kijo is the definition of bi wrongs to me, and Byakuya inheirited the mankissing wrongs from his dad.
Tumblr media
My personal headcannon is that Kijo MAINLY kisses woman but settles for kissing guys in private. (he also has a crush on a guy but won’t admit it)
And we all know Byakuya loves guys so 🤡✨

The idea of Kijo being gay (or some form of man enjoyer) and homophobic is so narratively juicy to me.
All the power in the world, all the money in the world and he's still shackled to the dated Togami traditions and the mindsets that come along with being raised in a strict environment like that.
In a non-despair timeline, he wouldn't ever bring himself to explore it in my interpritation of him.
However, if society were to collapse and fall into despair (and survive), he would be somewhat more inclined to explore his preference for men considering the society that enforced and validated his dated mindset no longer exists.
Later, when he rebuilds the company, he eventually becomes the first Togami in generations to get married, to a man.

Something that just popped into my mind is what if Byakuya actually was the blank slate Kijo wanted? Like, what would've happened then? Assuming the events of Ultimates still take place, of course.
I mean at first he…. Kinda was.
When all the ultimates were first adopted out, everything that had been done to make them forget left them very…. Um, moldable. For lack of a better word. They very quickly picked up whatever traits and behaviors they saw around them (for better or worse) Little Byakuya was like a little sponge and Kijo probably had an EASY time making this kid as perfect as he wanted.
Until he got older of course. Learning to do business on his own meant having just a sliver of independence, and Monokuma being around to actually Encourage Byakuya’s questioning about why he’s different than everyone else was really the catalyst that led him to breaking away from just being exactly like his dad wanted. He still wants to be a Togami, and I think in his head there’s still a little voice that urges him to be as perfect as possible, but he knows how to think for himself now.
IF he hadn’t learned that independence, though- that would be very interesting. If Kijo had maybe been a little more overbearing, a little less lenient with how much time Monokuma got to spend with Byakuya as a kid, I could absolutely see Byakuya growing up to be exactly like Kijo wanted. That line he has in chapter… eleven I think- about how a ‘mindless drone would be a dream come true’ had a little bit of truth to it.
He probably would’ve been trusted with a lot more information going into Hope’s peak, and he might’ve been even more wary of Makoto in particular if he’d had more of an idea of what Junko was really capable of. He would’ve been like a mini antagonist for the better part of the story… that would’ve been interesting. I’d like to think that even then he still would’ve stood up to Kijo at the police station, but if he DIDNT- Junko would’ve won. Easily.

Kijo as Cave Johnson pressuring Byakuya into becoming Glados is so real. Just as a way to ensure a Togami will always be in charge of the facility, unaware that the engineers would attempt to strip him of his power.
Maybe Mr. Naegi as Doug Rattman putting his son in priority in the long term relaxation vault as it's the only way to ensure he lives. Maybe he was hoping that Byakuya would stay offline after the events of Portal 1 and his son would eventually wake up to safety and freedom like he had hoped.
I just [shoves them into a blender and puts it on pulse].
OOOOOOHOHOHOH Ough the tragedy, the possibilities AAAAGH so fucking real
