"I want to talk about Tyler Christopher, the person. If you are a fan of his or even if you knew him personally, go on a walk with me." "I first met Tyler when I was about sixteen and as some of you may know, Nikolas and Robin had a friendship, a very sweet friendship, but so did Kimberly and Tyler. We were a part of this acting class where I met a lot of my really good friends and we were also part of a friend group. Once, when I was going through a breakup, It was a really hard time in my life. I was extremely lonely and he apologized to me for not being there for me, and he said I hope you'll forgive me. It made me feel like I wasn't crazy, that I was loved, and that Tyler really was my friend. I mean, what 20-something-year-old TV star at the height of his career says the words, 'I hope you'll forgive me?' But that was the kind of friendship we had, Tyler was like a big brother to me and things were never romantic between us, which was great. It made our friendship even that much sweeter and simpler." "Tyler always supported me when I wanted to make a transition into directing. He could see it as clearly as I could. He would always say yeah, go go go, keep going. I know you're going to do it. He even went so far as to put me up in his house in Austin, Texas, while we were shooting a TV show. I was shadowing on an ABC family show, and he totally took care of me while I was there. He would even make coffee in the morning before he go to work and leave me a little note like see you at work. He was just thoughtful." "I remember Finola [Anna, GH] came up to me one day after working with him and she was like, 'I didn't know he was so funny.' She was like 'Tyler is so clever; he just says this stuff under his breath and so if you're not listening very carefully, you'll miss it.' I was like 'I know, I know, no one knows he is freaking stand-up comedian in the body of a prince'. Tyler was like so funny. He would tell these stories and my stomach would hurt so bad. I would cry like those cartoons where the tears shoot out of the side of your eyes." "So, I guess my point to all of this is to tell you that even though Tyler had his own struggles. he found a way to be all these things for me as a friend. He found a way to be empathetic, generous and had a way of just making me laugh like no one else could. We share a love of hip hop, we shared a love of dogs, we shared of love of finding the emotional truths in our craft. Even though I am super sad today, I am so grateful I got to know someone like that and grateful that I got to have a good friend for over 30 years. Rest in peace man," - Kimberly McCullough

kimberly mccullough talks working on high school musical: the musical: the series, including specifically working with olivia rose keegan from days of our lives (and olivia rodrigo):

host: when you think about the credits that you’ve amassed as a director, is there a particular assignment or gig that you feel like was a game changer for you? either because of the doors that it opened or because it was creatively satisfying for you or because it gave you like a deeper confidence in yourself in the profession?

kimberly: wow, yeah i mean the obvious one is high school musical because it encompasses my dance, singing background and also i get to work with like the most talented young people. while we were shooting last season you know olivia rodrigo’s song went number one in the world and you know just shows up the next day to work, playing nini which is so amazing. so i would say that, and then after my first season on that show i directed two episides, tim federle the showrunner asked me to be a producer on season two. so that has opened doors to me as a producer, as the first television show i’ve produced. and also now i’m in contention for pilots and i just got some big news yesterday about a movie, can’t share it yet, but um yeah i would say that. creatively satisfying and also game changing.

host: yes and we are on the precipice of the debut of season two uh because day’s of our lives alum olivia keegan will be appearing in season two so...

kimberly: yes, i worked very closely with her.

host: oh- okay

kimberly: she was in lots of my episodes. i love her.

(laughing)

host: okay does she get the mccullough thumbs up?

kimberly: oh of course. actually she- when we came back from our break um she had won an emmy.

host: mhmm

kimberly: and we talked about that- but yeah i absolutely love her. we call her keegan on set so that we don’t get olivia rodrigo and olivia rose keegan confused. so it’s liv and keegan. so if i say that that’s what i mean. um yeah. fabulous to be able to talk about our soap lives together!

host: that must be so interesting because it really is such a- you know unique experience especially doing it when you’re young. and then maybe comparing your experience with someone else who’s done it because i feel like unless you’ve done it maybe you don’t really understand what goes into doing the rigors of doing a soap opera.

kimberly: no, like- literally nobody understands unless you’ve done it. and i was able to talk to her in terms of like- just- just- ways that you shoot a soap versus the ways we shoot hsm is just different. um and you know soap actors always impress everybody because they know their lines backwards and forwards and know everybody else’s lines because that’s just the muscle that you gain, comes from working on soaps. so yeah it’s really interesting i mean she is- this is a very different character for her you’ll see she’s funny- she’s very funny. and um she sings a song in episode two and she just kind of blows it out of the water. i can’t wait for you guys to see it i’m so excited!

IMPORTANT ‼️ today a man under the age of 18 walked onto a high school campus with an ak-47. he was detained by police immediately before anyone got hurt, but it’s sickening that someone would be so cruel to do that after the shooting at robb elementary. i’m making this post to remember and honor the victims of robb elementary in uvalde, texas, and i’ve provided some links to verified gofundmes down below so we can provide support to the victims of this horrible event and their families. please try to donate or spread the word. i’ve also provided alternative ways you can help if you can’t donate money!
