So…allow me to ramble about my fic for a while.

Home is Where The Heart is (Or HIWTHI for short) was the first fanfic of Raincode I ever wrote. As someone who ONLY specializes in sickfics, I usually write one per fixation targeting my fave every single time. But the moment I saw how pathetic Yuma was throughout the game, I was practically ready to get to work the minute I finished the game in July 2023, I practically wrote down the summary on an hour plane flight I took.

Truth be told, I was actually super nervous to write this fic. I would be the third person in the fandom to write a sickfic of this series, two others sadly beating me x’D So I was super nervous since the fandom was still so new. I feared I wouldn’t write any of these characters well enough. So before I wrote it, I played the game a second time and tried to study everyone’s personalities, mannerisms, and tried seeing how they’d think and react to a mildly drastic situation.

When I started to write it for the first time I got writers block quite a lot… Especially with Fubuki. I mostly got my ideas for each of the master detectives individual mission chapters whenever I took outdoor walks. (mainly because writing anything not related to the sick whump itself is harder for me xD so Vivia’s chapter was the easiest to write lol)

But once I was finished I was very excited to post it. And I never thought it would do as well as it did! In a way, this fanfic is what truly established my place in the fandom. It defines me as well as what kind of content I enjoy doing. I’ve never had my writing get this much attention before. And it made me so happy… ;w;

And now it even has an illustrated comic based off it. To think my silly little idea I came up with last summer, would find such a place among the community… It practically defines my place among the RC fandom.

Yuma’s the youngest, at he just turned sixteen. Man is a gifted kid, radiates gifted kid burnout energy, and a super talented teenager isn’t really absurd given that Kodaka made Rain Code and Danganronpa, and the premise of Danganronpa is that all these teenagers are the best at what they do, so yeah, teen! Yuma. 💋

Then there’s Kurumi, at sixteen, just a little bit older than Yuma by a few months, she’s giving young and in high school, and she’s very aspirational, I’d say a good handful of teenagers have that young, excited energy and these big goals for themselves, and she’s already super passionate about being an informant, even though she hasn’t been one for very long. ✨

Then Desuhiko, at twenty - one, radiating that “ young adult that doesn’t have their shirt figured out in the slightest / child with a drinking permit “ type of vibe, like yeah, he may be an adult, but he’s not an adulty - adult, if that makes sense ? He is still prone to fucking up and needs a bit of patience still, since he’s not quite at the age where he’s figured everything out. 💅🏻

Fubuki’s next at twenty - two, she’s sheltered, but at the age where people are in college or getting their lives started, and with the inferences made by her Gumshoe Gabs and interactions, it feels like her parents pushed her to get out there, because she “ needs to learn about the real world “, which I think is a little fucked up, but that’s a story for another time. 🥂

Halara is definitely older than a lot of them by far, being thirty one, but they’re still young. They know who they are, that’s for sure, but they’re at a place where they’re established, have their shit together, but they’re not what people can consider old either. They are still at the age where they understand millennial type humor and meta jokes, but they would have to look up slang on UrbanDictionary. 👀

Vivia is thirty four, given the backstory, he’s giving me the “ my parents did a shit job raising me and my brothers but it’s kinda what they thought was best, even though it was shitty “ / latchkey kid energy, something I feel older millennials had experienced, also his interests feel mature, and it’s like he genuinely has always enjoyed stuff like reading, a hobby he could have grown up with. 💕

And when the game said Yakou’s middle aged, I would consider that like, early forties ( forty one ), because he did lots of gaming in his prequel story, and the game said that this prequel fic took place over a decade ago, which could mean anything from ten plus years, but he still had stuff like video games, so I don’t think he was much older than forty - ish. 🤠

I just remembered the episode in Saiki K where it was like, Christmas, and Kuniharu was going to go be the neighborhood Santa but couldn't because he hurt his back. It was so funny they wanted Kusuo to do it and he was like nope nope no no way in hell absolutely not

And then Kurumi comes in like "it's okay! I'll do it!" with the little santa outfit and they're both so horrified he immediately agrees to do it if only so that his mother doesn't go out in that. Like I'm pretty sure that's the one and only time in the series where Kuniharu and Kusuo were in complete agreement about anything. Whatever else happened, neither of them were letting Saiki Kurumi out into the late December night, dressed like THAT. Absolute King shit

Stupidest though that has crossed my mind ; The Agency ( + Kurumi ) playing Minecraft together. 🤠✨🥂

So like, I feel like Halara would be running the server, not because they’re super into video games or anything, but because they get tired of Desuhiko abusing admin privileges, so in order to keep relative peace in the server, they’re running it. Probably the main builder of the group, makes the main base, keeps everything organized, probably really good at redstone circuits.

Fubuki is normally the one prettying up the base and taking care of the animals, getting flowers, planting gardens, farming. Kurumi is probably helping her sometimes, but for the most part, Fubuki is the one doing the decorating and farming, probably has a fuck ton of dogs and cats.

Desuhiko is so cringefail, he enjoys playing, he really does, but he just has shit luck and is the type to get killed on spawn, forget to place his bed, not bring food with him on adventures. He’s definitely rage quit before. Absolutely flexes when he gets Diamond tools and armor though, but c’mon, you gotta be a little proud of him.

Vivia is definitely the type to know everything about the Nether, and would spend most of his time in there. He marks where bastions are and nether fortresses, spends a lot of time looking for those spawns and looking for netherite. Probably knows a lot about enchanting too.

Yuma is the only one with a plan, he’s the one who focuses on the objective of the game, so he’s constantly trying to speedrun getting to The End, but doesn’t take much time to explore really. He knows the best speedrun seeds, and really tries to stock up on everything so he’s ready to fight the Ender Dragon and the Wither when the time comes. Shinigami is complaining that he’s not “playing the game right” because he’s not exploring enough.

Kurumi is the adventurer, she likes to search for desert temples, ocean temples, ice spikes, lush caves. She always invites Yuma and Fubuki to come along with her, has accidentally hit polar bears before, has definitely tried to bring every mob back to their base, lured a panda over with bamboo before. Can absolutely land a water bucket.

Yakou is the only one getting actually jumpscared by the game, totally hates caves, acts like it doesn’t bother him at all though. He is so stressed when playing, especially because everyone’s so busy with their own tasks, he’s normally the only one in the mines. Definitely has dumb luck though, probably the first one to find the strong hold, badlands, and Ancient City, but lost his cool when the Warden came out.
