In Imtiaz Ali's world, I met two mango people, Meera and Jai. Two practical individuals, who were not Heer-Ranjha or Laila-Majnu; they were simply two people in love, in a practical relationship. They were not those mad lovers that the history remembers - where lovers would die for each other or wait for one another for years, or face the cruelty of the society and go against all odds to be together.
They were just two people who met and felt right to be together; there was liking and understanding, and they also embraced their individuality and dreams together. They enjoyed and struggled through the ups and downs together. But when situations relating to long distance, contrasting future plans, career paths, and preferences rose, they chose to let each other go by being practical.
They believed that relationships are not meant to be complicated, so why face the restraints when things can be easier. Despite their attempt to keep things simpler by breaking up and not facing the harsh realities on the outside, the two ended up facing the internal struggles in their life in actually letting each other go. They progressed in their respective careers, they moved on to date other people, and their life was going in the rational direction that would lead to fulfillment and happiness, according to their practical understanding about life.
Yet, they felt a void. A void where, despite achieving it all in life, their hearts couldn't be where they were supposed it to be. When they were apart, they experienced restlessness and incompleteness. They couldn't estimate the depth of their love, and it took them a long time to realise that while they believed in being practical, their heart listened to the rhythm that they created together.
That's what Jai and Meera remind me - what's meant to be and with whom it's meant to be, that happens anyway, in it's own time, in it's own way because of the heart that leads you through. To be in love doesn't necessarily mean to do grand gestures by building Taj Mahal or to die for each other. It's when the odds don't matter and being together makes the most sense in this chaotic and apathetic world.

POV: You're a 90s kid going to the movie theatre with your friends after school in 2009/2010 to watch a light-hearted movie popular among your peers in school.

That one line in the song, Ajj Din Chadheya,
माँगा जो मेरा है जाता क्या तेरा है
मैंने कौन सी तुझसे जन्नत माँग ली...
Hurts more each time.
