Title: heart as tough as leather Rating: M Summary: Klaus Mikaelson joined The Heretics at a young age after escaping a dismal home life, quickly rising through the ranks and becoming one of the highest-ranking members. After the organization allied itself with the Ciphers, a mysterious cult-like group that experimented on pokemon to make them stronger at the cost of their civility, what started off as a seedy but legal network of agents retrieving rare wild pokemon for wealthy collectors devolved into a crime ring that specialized in stealing already caught pokemon from trainers. When Cipher demands he hand over his pokemon for the final phase of experimentation, it’s the last straw, and he makes his escape with the prototype of the Snag Machine, intending to destroy it and make a new life for himself as far away from the Orre Region as possible.

Caroline Forbes has a rare gift, one that got her dragged into this mess after Cipher steals her Charmander. She knows Klaus and his stolen Snag Machine is her only way of getting Charmander back, and she begs him to help in exchange for funds to allow him to make his escape from Orre forever. Together, they embark on an adventure to do just that.

And, somehow, there’s always only one bed at every place they stop to rest. Darn.

Hug me, friend! 🫂 I love a good rom-com style fic. If you haven't yet, I highly recommend that you read everything by @misssophiachase! She has so many delicious drabbles and fics with that rom-com vibe! Keeping Up Appearances is such a fandom classic, Spellbound is fantastic and has a little magical twist, which I love, and Collision Course is another incredible one! But seriously, just go through everything. Cristy is a *master* of the rom-com fics, there are dozens and dozens, some longer, some shorter, but all equally delicious. I'm sure you'll find material enough there to keep you entertained for a long, long time.

A fic I really love is Colored You In by @lalainajanes. Not sure it qualifies as rom-com but it certainly has the vibes! Delivered by @honestgrins is another fandom classic and it's a You've Got Mail AU, so it fits the description perfectly!

Also, another true classic that is not exactly rom-com but ticks a lot of boxes and has some magical twists and that if you haven't read yet, you definitely should is F*ck You Flowers by @lynyrdwrites. It's such a delightful read, I can't even 🤌🤌

I guess some of these are more the Human AU with romance type rather than classic rom-com, but you get what I mean. 😂

i’ll always admire writers who are able to create a whole another alternate au and present it in a single one shot in a way that explains everything you need to know, without overwhelming you with unnecessary information. like, how’d’y’all do it???

anyway.

kol is really the highlight here. he has a way of stealing the show, but in this case, it’s in a truly unique way i don’t think i’ve seen anywhere else. no spoilers, but his turmoil and anguish are portrayed so beautifully here. caroline’s struggle is just as stunning. i loved it so, so much.

Only this time, the family has their own homicidal plans, and it seems like her other husband might be the power behind the whole mess. But if she can just survive the night with her new in-laws thinking she's still human, it should all work out.

Ever pictured Caroline in a bloody wedding dress? An alternate universe, Ready or Not fusion, this fic is heaps of fun and definitely for you. If you’ve seen the film its inspired by, you know what I’m talking about. It’s not an Original!Caroline fic, but definitely gives off the same vibes - Klaus and Caroline are married, powerful ancient beings each in their own right, only Caroline has spent the last few years - centuries? - away from her husband, pretending to human. Which is how she accidentally says yes to Stefan’s proposal to marry her. Oops. Well, at least she doesn’t have to live with him for long - humans die after a few decades, right? Or so she hopes - honestly the casual disregard for humanity’s customs are partly what I love about this fic, Caroline is so clearly other and it’s amazing. What’s even more amazing, is Klaus is exactly the same, and the two together are a hilarious eldritch horror.

This is truly a delight, in all its bloody gory. Go read it.

I don’t know if I’ve ever actually been happy, or if someone else is feeling it and I cling onto it with all I have because I wish I could feel that, too.

Kol didn’t say anything just scowled at the unconscious figure in his bed.  She had no right to go and say something like that, and make him feel as though he understood her more than he understood any of his siblings.

He understood faking it – playing pretend and showing one face to the whole world, until you weren’t sure if it was even an act anymore.  Or if you had simply become the lie.

A Klaroline Magicians AU

It all started with an exam, her mysterious guide taking her to an exam to see if she could get into magical grad school. Maybe it started earlier than that — with the interview gone wrong. When she and Bonnie had stumbled on a dead body in what was supposed to be Caroline’s Yale interview.

That was the moment right? When everything changed.

If she hadn’t followed the page for Fillory book 6 would any of this have happened?

The craziest part is that Caroline isn’t sure she’d change it? She’d change some of the circumstances and the consequences but she loves her weird coven.

Yes maybe they were brought together by blood and a maniacal bastard but she loves them. They're  her  people.

Bonnie, her lifelong best friend, they drifted apart for a bit when they got into Brakebills, when Bonnie was a knowledge and Caroline was undeclared (but assigned to the cottage). They had some of their worst fights but Caroline knows they’re closer now than ever before.  

Her roommate Kat, a psychic traveler who didn’t know how not to run away. Who pretended like she didn’t care about anyone.

(Who saved her life multiple times despite claiming not to care about Caroline).

Caroline is still going to bother her with Taylor Swift though

There’s Enzo St John who became her best friend outside of Bonnie.    Who is one of the most brilliant magicians Caroline has ever met and literally sneaked into Brakebills because he wasn’t invited… all to find out what happened to his sister.

And of course  the Mikaelsons.

Kol with his hedge stars, knowledge of battle magic and heart eyes for her best friend.

Rebekah who ruled the Cottage, was obsessed with Welters and yet was as much of a Fillory nerd as Caroline was. Who put up an Ice Queen front but was one of the softest people

And Klaus.

Her mysterious exam guide, who comforted her with one of his darkest secrets when she was worried about being expelled and ending back in the hospital. The same person who brought her into his inner circle that had previously just been him and his sister.

(The one she’d slept with when feeling the effects of emotion magic) (They don’t talk about that night)

She remembers the cliffside where she crowned him High King, then he’d crowned Rebekah as High Queen, then had crowned Enzo and herself.

(Neither Kol or Bonnie hadn’t wanted it but they had technically been ambassadors.. Caroline had joked that the alone time brought them closer.. and it did).

They had almost lost Enzo in the fight against Silas but he’d they’d managed to defeat him and then had to save a fairytale land where magic was failing. They’d had to fight a political game that had ended with magic being shut off and they had been overrun by fairies.

And then the quest for the seven keys. Which had brought new challenges. Kat had almost died and been taken by the Library. Thankfully Bonnie had found a loophole. Enzo had lost his father and then he and Rebekah had finally gotten their shit together.

Caroline had known joy and grief like no other. She’d grown old and had children and grandchildren.

(Their daughter Lizzie was never far from her thoughts)

She and Klaus had come back and things had been weird. They hadn’t really talked since then. Caroline had come face to face with the worst version of herself and came out victorious. She and Klaus were still avoiding each other, Caroline’s focus was on the quest and his on the election.

It all leads to right now.

They were en route to Castle Blackspire to bring back magic. They’re so close she can almost  taste it — maybe afterward they can talk right?

To celebrate week 3 of @klarolineauseason I’ve got my rec list! 

All I Need by emeraldvixen 

Multichap. Complete. Wolf mates. This 6-part fic is one of my favourites, gotta say. Technically, I suppose Klaus and Caroline are still their canon species, but this fic explores Klaus’ werewolf side in more detail, particularly in relation to mates. There’s also some fantastic smut at the end, as well as action in the middle, where Caroline’s friends try to break the mate bond. Little do they know, a bond like that can’t be broken - not without death anyway.

The Lost Prince and The Eternal Queen by 3tinkgemini 

One-shot. Complete. Now this is a fic I don’t see in fic recs often and I don’t understand why because I LOVE it and it is definitely up there on my top 10 fics (mostly because I love anything wolf or pack related but still). Klaus is an Original Hybrid in this, fresh out of Mystic Falls where his attempt to create a hybrid pack (surprise, surprise) failed. Caroline is a werewolf Alpha, with a pack of her own, one who she would protect at all costs, even if it means going up against the most powerful creature to walk the earth - Klaus. Instead of fighting though, Caroline offers Klaus a deal. Live with her pack, let her teach what it means to be a wolf, and if any pack members wish to become a hybrid after his stay, he is free to take them. It’s a brilliant story that explores what Klaus is missing, never having grown up in a pack, never truly been a werewolf, while also portraying a beautiful story of Klaus and Caroline slowly falling for each other.

Two-shot. Complete. Dragon!AU. Caroline is set to marry Tyler to form an alliance between two lands, but her soul has already been marked with another. I always love a good dragon au, and this is great fic to read to satisfy the thirst.

Shoot The Stars by LynyrdLionheart / @lynyrdwrites

In-complete. Y’all need to read this so we can unite and pester the writer for an update (I’m sorry Lenna but it’s true I NEED an update it’s way too good 😭😭😭). Caroline is an assassin that’s turned over a clean slate, living anonymously, and unknown to her, Klaus is an alien. Hilarity ensues. This has some brilliant moments with the other Mikaelsons too, and the end to the first part is amazing. Caroline is a badass and I stan.

F*ck You Flowers by LynyrdLionheart / @lynyrdwrites

One-shot. Complete. Caroline is an empath, while Klaus and his family are still Original vampires. Finn Mikaelson walks into Caroline’s flower shop wanting a bouquet that accurately says F*ck You, needing it to give to Klaus for leaving him in a box for a thousand years. Caroline complies, intrigued. Klaus, unsurprisingly, is not amused. It’s a great fic, and as always, this writer infuses a certain level of humor into their fics that I adore. Highly recommend. Had to open the link to refresh my memory, and you know what? I’m gonna go read it again. It’s ace.

The Howling by BelleMorte180 / @bellemorte180

Two-shot. Complete. My favourite of Erica’s fics. Another wolf mate fic, but with a twist. Klaus, an alpha of a visiting pack is not pleased to find out his mate was harmed by another before he even met her, and harmed by a member of her own pack nonetheless. (Or, a.k.a includes some good old Damon murder at the end, werewolf style). It’s a wonderful, beautiful fic, which has Klaus and Caroline as wolf mates, burning for each other, but also explores the werewolf culture side of it - the idea of ‘The Howling’ is amazing and so original. Come scream at it with me.

Sing the Song of the River Styx by Certified_Ceraunophile / @certifiedceraunophile

One-shot. Complete. Hades x Persephone AU. This fic left me shattered in a million pieces at the sheer devotion and love Klaus and Caroline have for each other. Klaus creates and entire freakin’ constellation for Caroline. Like. COME ON. Srishti has forever ruined my expectations for men, let’s just leave it at that.

One-shot. Complete. Another flower shop au, this time with Caroline as a witch. Oh, and Klaus and Caroline are soulmates, with words written on their skin. Great read.

For this week’s Klaroline Spotlight Sunday @klaroline-event​, I’m promoting Changeling by @lynyrdwrites

This is a marvelous supernatural AU that explores fae folklore. This is the type of writing that’s a signature mark for this author — the details and characterization are beautifully blended with supernatural elements to plunge the reader headfirst into this captivating universe.

I love the strength Caroline projects — even in her most vulnerable moments, she’s a force that threatens to swallow Klaus whole — and he welcomes it.

These lines are amazing:
