Danmei and Baihe C Novels and Manhua Officially Licensed in English
Things are getting licensed fast enough that keeping a list like this up-to-date is basically impossible, but I saw someone asking in the tags so I figured I'd try. All titles are danmei unless otherwise noted (very little baihe is licensed so far). I've included Chinese titles and linked novelupdates for each title when I was able to find them, but sometimes publishers change the original titles so much that I can't track them down, apologies.
Basically: this is everything I know of as of April 12, 2024. There might be more. I tried.
For the latest danmei news, Danmeinews.com is a great resources.
Note that some of this information was sourced from this Carrd, last updated in March 2023.

All these titles are manhua!

World Hopping: Avenge Our Love (Ni Wufa Yuliao de Fenshou, Wo Du Neng Gei Ni Song Shang) by Xiaomao Bu Ai Jiao (no longer available)
-
Honorable Mentions:
There are a handful of titles I know of that are official translations of C Novels, where the C Novels aren't danmei or baihe but are often treated as adjacent within fandom (as in: I've seen people shipping characters from them, lol). I've included two above under the entry for titles from Aloha Comics (Link Click and Nirvana in Fire) and here are a couple others I currently know of:
The Grave Robbers' Chronicles (Daomu Biji) by Nanpai Sanshu (six volumes are available in English from Things Asian Press
The Legend of the Condor Heroes (She Diao Yingxiong Chuan) by Jin Yong from St. Martin's Press
Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguo Yanyi), attributed to Luo Guanzhong, available in multiple translations
The Seven Heroes and Five Gallants (Zonglie Xiayi Chuan), attributed to Shi Yukun, there are two translations to English listed at the linked Wikipedia page
Note that to the best of my knowledge both of these are considered very substandard translations. I've personally read the official DMBJ translations and... yeah... and I've heard the LOCH translation is also mediocre.
I will add to the "Honorable Mentions" list if I find any other more mainstream titles with official translations.
Please don't come at me for including a couple classics. The characters shippable, what can I do? I've written fic for Romance of the Three Kingdoms...
-
A handful of other licenses are mentioned on the Carrd I linked at the beginning of this post; I have no idea the status of those titles and wasn't able to find information on them while putting together this post other than what was listed on that Carrd, so I've omitted them.
As a final note, I've personally purchased from every printer on this list EXCEPT Monogatari Novels (I'm holding off because of the controversy and will see how things play out) and Chaleuria (which I vaguely knew existed but nothing beyond that).
Seven Seas translation varies but the editing is general strong and the editions are sturdy and nice. Extras that have come with final volumes are lovely. I am buying literally everything they publish except for You've Got Mail, due to information about the author that was shared with me that the author is a transphobe. Note that Kinnporsche by Daemi is not danmei as it's Thai (and I've heard unsavory things about the author - I don't have a link for that as the information was shared with me on Discord, and I encourage you to do your own research rather than taking my word for it). No judgement if you make a different choice than me, to be clear, I'm just sharing the information I have and why I personally am not buying the books). Note that Seven Seas isn't without controversy, especially for treating their contractors poorly resulting in them unionizing. Some people have also been unhappy with the fidelity of their translations compared to the original Chinese (I've been satisfied personally but ymmv).
Peach Flower House has inconsistent inconsistent editing quality, but the books are very readable, and I'm excited that they're working with translators such as E. Danglars. I haven't bought any of their special editions so can't speak to their extras, but I've bought all their print translations and will continue to do so going forward.
I just got my first title from Via Lactea last week and finished reading it on Sunday, and the translation read very well and there were minimal errors. It also came with a bundle of cute extras, which I wasn't expecting and pleased, and writing this post has caused me to cave and spend $150 to buy the rest of their books. Thank you, tax refund. (Should I spend this money? No. Did I anyway? ...)
No Rosmei titles have actually shipped yet, so I can't speak to their quality, though the previews they've shared on social media (as outlined here, for example) read decently and I'm optimistic. The cover art is also lovely, and they've been communicative and responsive, for example they've already issued a statement related to a recent controversy over perceived poor marketing for At the World's Mercy.
Tl:dr, the above is absolutely everything I personally know about mlm and wlw Chinese novels and manhua that have been licensed for English publication. I hope it helps someone.
Now go forth, and buy some books!

Welcome to the 'Best Character with [X] surname' polls!
This is where I take several characters from different Chinese media (mostly cnovels and cdrama) and run a poll on which one is the 'best'. What does best mean? It's up to you! Whether you love them, are intrigued by their characters, love to hate them, or they're your '2 second blorbos whose personality you made up wholesale', these are all reasons for you to vote for your favs!
NB: the surnames are not exactly the same in all the cases, as often they will be a different character. I am, however, grouping them all together otherwise things got more complicated.
If you can't find a surname, it's because I couldn't find enough candidates (at least 3 from 3 distinct medias) to compete. Feel free to submit candidates!
I will be posting several polls at a time, so do come back and check this masterpost to remember which polls are ongoing, who the winners are, and who's coming up next!
Currently ongoing polls:/Chi/Shan/Tian/Dao/Chao/Xin/Ran/Sang/Miao/Cang/Yao/Zang/Chong/Nangong
Finished polls: Xing/Rong/Nan/Ren/Pan/Qu/Fu/Sui/Tan/You/Sima/Xuan/Chang/Xun/Shangguan/Jian/Qian/Shu/Xi/Yuwen/Cai/Sha/Yin/Ceng/Helian/Zeng/Lou/Mi/Ji/Ping/Tong/Tuoba /Ge/Murong/Hei/Niu/Tao/Si/Pang/Zi/Gongsun/Mao/Qing/Lian
There's only a certain number of hyperlinks that can be added per post, so the rest of the completed polls can now be found here

best cdramas I’ve watched since the last one of these posts in 2021 (also some not so good + some upcoming)
I’ve been too busy to make lists, so I’m leaving out every drama I dropped
Luoyang (watch on iQIYI VIP) adapted from the novel of the same title by Ma Bo Yong (马伯庸), starring Huang Xuan, Wang Yibo, and Song Qian. The Longest Day in Chang'an vibes, but like, lighter and more colorful in every sense of the word. So many excellent female characters. Moves at a good clip for 39 episodes without stuttering. The cast is out of this world. 9/10
The Longest Day in Chang'an (watch on Amazon Prime | watch on Viki) starring Lei Jia Yin and Yi Yang Qian Xi. Fckn masterpiece. The cinematography in this thing is a joy to behold. Visually stunning. Not a drama you can glance at occasionally and still catch the threads. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. 10/10
Sword Snow Stride (watch on WeTV VIP | watch on Viki) based on the xuanhuan novel The Snowy Path of the Heroic Blade by 烽火戏诸侯 starring Zhang Ruoyun and Hu Jun. I have a soft spot for Zhang Ruoyun so I was gonna watch this to the end even if it sucked. Luckily, it didn’t. Still, it’s sort of a run-of-the-mill adventure journey story, where the hero always wins against all odds. It does a good job filling that empty hole in your life that Joy of Life left behind. The cast is stellar, and the plot stable enough for enjoyment. 7/10
The Long Ballad (watch on Viki |  watch on YouTube) based on wuxia manhua by 夏达 starring Dilraba Dilmurat and Wu Lei. Dilraba Dilmurat is a fckn goddess. Not gonna lie, I watched this whole thing just for her. I’m not particularly crazy about Wu Lei as an actor, but he was amazing in this role. The plot meanders occasionally, and there are some episodes I’ve watched at 1.25 speed. Still, one of the better romances out there. 7/10
Marvelous Women (watch on Viki) starring Jiang Qinqin and Zhang Huiwen. This was glorious in every sense of the word. So many brilliant women. So many brainless men. In-depth study of duty, honor, loyalty and love. I laughed, I cried, I lay on the floor and stared at the ceiling. Beautiful story, exquisitely told. 10/10
The Theatre Stories (watch on iQIYI VIP) starring  Qin Kaixuan and Zhao Xiaotang. Fun, lighthearted joy of a story. The best comedy I’ve seen all year. Love it to fckn pieces. 9/10
Honorable Mentions
The Story of MingLan (watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki | watch on YouTube) adapted from the novel of the same title by Guan Xin Ze Luan (关心则乱), starring Zhao Liying, Feng Shaofeng, and Zhu Yilong. Cao Cuifen is also in this, for those who fckn adore this woman as much as I do. First of all, Zhao Liying is magic on screen, regardless of the role. The romance in this doesn’t meander, even if the other story lines occasionally do. First two thirds were very enjoyable. Last third I could’ve done without. I believe I called this drama “the terrible, wonderful lives of women,” and I still hold to that. 6/10
Watched, but nothing to write home about
The Rebel Princess (watch on Amazon Prime | watch on Viki) adapted from the novel "Emperor's Conquest" (帝王业) by Mei Yu Zhe (寐语者) starring Zhang Ziyi and Zhou Yiwei. 5/10
The Legend of Condor Heroes (2017) (watch on iQIYI VIP) starring Li Yitong and Yang Xuwen. Meng Ziyi is also in this adaptation. 4/10
God of Lost Fantasy (watch on Amazon Prime | watch on Viki | watch on YouTube) adapted from the novel “Ancient Godly Monarch” by Jing Wu Hen starring Sheng Yilun and Wang Ziwen. 3/10
Legend of Zhen Huan (watch on Amazon Prime) starring Sun Li and Chen JianBin. 5/10
Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities (watch on Viki) adapted from the novel "Jing - Shuang Cheng" (镜·双城) by Cang Yue (沧月) starring Li Yifeng and Chen Yuqi. 4/10
Still waiting on:
Immortality - based on danmei novel The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by 肉包不吃肉 starring Chen Feiyu and Luo Yunxi
Winner Is King - based on the danmei novel Sha Po Lang by Priest starring Tan Jianci and Chen Zheyuan
Step By Step Lotus - based on historical novel Return to Ming Dynasty as Prince by 月关 starring Zhang Binbin and Luo Yunxi
Eternal Faith - based on danmei novel Heaven Official's Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu starring Zhai Xiaowen and Zhang Linghe
Thousand Autumns - based on danmei novel of the same name by Meng Xi Shi - cast unknown
Joy Of Life Season 2 - based on wuxia novel of the same name by 猫腻 starring Zhang Ruoyun and Li Qin
A League of Nobleman - based on danmei novel The Society of Four Leaves by Da Feng Gua Guo starring Song Weilong and Jing Boran
Flying Phoenix - based on danmei novel of the same name by 風弄 starring Dai Jingyao and Shu Yaxin
The Story of the Bat - based on danmei novel Bat by Feng Nong starring Mao Zijun and Zhang Yao
The Longest Promise - based on xianxia novel Zhu Yan by 沧月 starring Xiao Zhan, Ren Min, and Zhang Yunlong

DAILY SELECTIONS FROM LAO-TZU’S TAO TE CHING — JULY 28, 2022
“Instead of pouring in more better stop while you can making it sharper won’t help it last longer rooms full of treasure can never be safe the vanity of success invites its own failure when your work is done retire this is the Way of Heaven” -Lao-tzu- (Taoteching, verse 9, translation by Red Pine) THE HOUHANSHU says, “What Lao-tzu warns against is ‘pouring in more’” (see the Houhanshu’s Lao-tzu biography). HSUN-TZU says, “In the ancestral hall of Duke Huan, Confucius reports watching an attendant pour water into a container that hung at an angle. As the water level approached the midpoint, the container became upright. But when the attendant went beyond the midpoint, it tipped over, the water poured out, and only after it was empty did it resume its former position. Seeing this, Confucius sighed, ‘Alas! Whatever becomes full becomes empty’” (Hsuntzu: 28). LU TUNG-PIN says, “This verse is about the basics of cultivation. These are the obstacles when you first enter the gate.” LIU SHIH-LI says, “Since fullness always leads to emptiness, avoid satisfaction. Since sharpness always leads to dullness, avoid zeal. Since gold and jade always lead to worry, avoid greed. Since wealth and honor encourage excess, avoid pride. Since success and fame bring danger, know when to stop and where lies the mean. You don’t have to live in the mountains and forests or cut yourself off from human affairs to enter the Way. Success and fame, wealth and honor are all encouragements to practice.” YEN TSUN says, “To succeed without being vain is easy to say but hard to practice. When success is combined with pride, it’s like lighting a torch. The brighter it burns, the quicker it burns out.” WANG CHEN says, “To retire doesn’t mean to abdicate your position. Rather, when your task is done, treat it as though it were nothing.” SSU-MA CH’IEN says, “When Confucius asked about the ceremonies of the ancients, Lao-tzu said, ‘I have heard that the clever merchant hides his wealth so his store looks empty and that the superior man acts dumb to avoid calling attention to himself. I advise you to get rid of your excessive pride and ambition. They won’t do you any good. This is all I have to say to you’” (Shihchi: 63). HO-SHANG KUNG says, “Excessive wealth and desire wearies and harms the spirit. The rich should help the poor, and the powerful should aid the oppressed. If, instead, they flaunt their riches and power, they are sure to suffer disaster. Once the sun reaches the zenith, it descends. Once the moon becomes full, it wanes. Creatures flourish then wither. Joy turns to sorrow. When your work is done, if you do not step down, you will meet with harm. This is the way of Heaven.” HUANG YUAN-CHI says, “You need a raft to cross a river. But once across, you can forget the raft. You need to study rules to learn how to do something. But once you know how, you can forget the rules.” And RED PINE adds, “This recipe for long life has been repeated in every civilized culture, and yet it has forever fallen on deaf ears.”

I tried something new and wrote a bio for Ling Tong. Would appreciate any feedback/corrections.
Ling Tong 淩統 (Gongji 公績) was fifteen years old when Sun Quan 孫權 (Zhongmou 仲謀) sent him to take over his father’s troops, after his father Ling Cao 凌操 had been struck by an arrow and killed in battle. Tong, despite his age, was well respected by many and Sun Quan 孫權 appointed him Separate Division Major and Acting Breaking Bandits Commandant. This was no doubt also due to Ling Cao’s 凌操 commitment to the state. During a campaign against the mountain bandits, Sun Quan 孫權 laid waste to the Bao encampment and left, leaving behind ten thousand troops to besiege the Ma camp. Ling Tong 淩統 was among these troops, and they plotted for the day of the attack.
Before the day of the battle, Ling Tong 淩統 attended a banquet alongside an officer named Chen Qin 陳勤, who was in charge of the banquet. Although, he abused his authority and dealt punishments without obeying the rules. Ling Tong 淩統 confronted him for this humiliation, however Chen Qin 陳勤 ignored him, furiously cursing him as well as his late father. Tong, though the insults and frustration had driven him to tears, offered no response. After the conclusion of the banquet, Chen Qin 陳勤 continued to furiously berate Tong on the road. By now his fury had gotten the better of him, so Tong drew his sword and attacked him. Chen Qin 陳勤 died from these wounds several days later, leaving Tong feeling guilty over what he had done.
When the time to attack the camp came, Ling Tong 淩統 decided the only way to pay for his crime was to die in battle. So, Tong rallied his troops and charged the enemy, avoiding flying arrows and rocks before quickly breaking through the opposing side. Once the officers behind him followed up on his assault, the battle was a decisive victory for Sun Quan’s 孫權 forces. Tong, believing he still had not paid for his crime, had himself bound and submitted to a disciplinary officer. Sun Quan 孫權 instead praised his conduct and pardoned him of his crime due to his achievement in battle.
Several years later, Sun Quan 孫權 campaigned against Huang Zu 黃祖 in Jiangxia 江夏 again, with Tong and his trusted warriors leading the vanguard. They sailed in a single boat, far ahead of the main army. Sailing into the western part of the river, Ling Tong 淩統 and his men beheaded the general Zhang Shuo 張碩 and captured all of his men, before reporting back to Sun Quan 孫權. At this time, Lü Meng 呂蒙 (Ziming 子明) defeated Huang Zu’s 黃祖 navy, and upon attacking Jiangxia, Ling Tong 淩統 was first to scale the wall and Jiangxia was quickly captured. For this victory, he was promoted to Chief Commandant and was present among Zhou Yu 周瑜 (Gongjin 公瑾) and others when Cao Cao 曹操 (Mengde 孟德) was repelled at Wulin. Following this, he defeated Cao Ren 曹仁 (Zixao 子孝), and was promoted to Colonel.
Tong was still well respected among scholars several years after Sun Quan 孫權 had first appointed him; he obsessed little over his wealth and valued good conduct. In the year 214, six years after Sun Quan’s 孫權 campaign in Jiangxia, he lead an attack on Huan, Luijiang. Ling Tong 淩統 once again performed well. For his efforts, he was made the General of the Interior who Terrifies Criminals and was designated the Chancellor of Pei. Following Lü Meng 呂蒙, he conquered the three western commanderies and returned to Yiyang, before marching towards Hefei 合肥.
Sun Quan 孫權, following a brief skirmish with Guan Yu’s 關羽 (Yunchang 雲長) army over Jing province, had led an army of 100,000 strong to march on Hefei 合肥i, defended by only 7,000 men, for the second time. The garrison at Hefei was headed by Zhang Liao 張遼 (Wenyuan 文遠), Yue Jin 樂進 (Wenqian 文謙) and Li Dian 李典 (Mancheng 曼成), though they did not get along. Zhang Liao 張遼 led a decisive strike on Sun Quan’s 孫權 army, taking 800 volunteers with him. This small assault inflicted massive damage on the opposing army, with Liao personally charging the lines until he reached Sun Quan’s 孫權 personal guards, prompting Quan to withdraw.
The siege continued for another ten days, though Sun Quan 孫權 made no progress and was forced to retreat, also in part due to the illness that had spread throughout his forces. The majority of the army was sent ahead, with a group of elite soldiers left behind to guard him. Zhang Liao 張遼 saw he was isolated, and struck again. Ling Tong 淩統 commanded three hundred of his personal troops and charged forward to protect Quan, breaking the encirclement. Tong escorted him from the fighting, to a nearby broken bridge where only a single plank remained on either side. Quan drove his horse to jump the gap, taking him to safety, and Ling Tong 淩統 then returned to the battle until all of his men had fallen, and he was badly wounded all across his body. Only when he had killed dozens of Zhang Liao’s 張遼 soldiers did he decide Sun Quan 孫權 had enough time to get far away, and so he tore off his armour and jumped into the river.
Sun Quan 孫權, who was safely aboard a boat now, spotted Ling Tong 淩統 in the river and pulled him free. Though he had survived, Tong was overcome with grief and wept uncontrollably at the loss of every one of his men. Sun Quan 孫權 wiped the tears from his face with his sleeve, and said, “Gongji, the dead are already gone, but with you here, what fear is there of lacking men?” He was kept aboard Sun Quan’s 孫權 boat and cared for by him personally, until he was healed. He was appointed Lieutenant General for his contribution, and the amount of troops under his command was doubled.
About the same time, a man named Chen Xian was recommended to Sun Quan 孫權. He was said to be of great morality and more virtuous than Ling Tong 淩統. Quan’s reply was “Having one like Tong is enough.” Chen Xian was later summoned, though at the time of his arrival, Ling Tong 淩統 was in his bed. However, once he heard of his arrival, he got dressed and went out to meet him, leading him in by the hand. He showed great kindness to one he had only just met.
Ling Tong 淩統 proposed the mountain bandits possessed many who were strong and heroic of nature, and could be brought into their service through rewards and martial prowess. This would take away the pressure put on their bordering territories, and provide them with allies. Sun Quan 孫權 accepted this proposal, ordering him east to take command and suppress them. He sent a decree to local administrators that all of Tong’s requests were to be fulfilled, and reported to him afterwards. Ling Tong 淩統 garnered much respect from the soldiers due to how he treated his men, and many flocked to volunteer for his service. He gathered 10,000 elite troops for this campaign.
Along the way, he passed by his hometown and walked into the local office. He treated the minor clerks and officials with utmost humility and respect, and greeted his old friends and family with great love and kindness despite having been parted for so long. However, once his matters in his home town were done and he had left, he suddenly fell ill and died at the young age of 29.
Upon hearing of his death, Sun Quan 孫權 wept uncontrollably for days, and his sorrow was endless. In his grief, Quan barely ate for several days, and had his official Zhang Cheng 張承 (Zhongsi 仲嗣), son of Zhang Zhao 張昭 (Zibu 子布), to write a eulogy for Ling Tong 淩統. His sons, Ling Lie 凌烈 and Ling Feng 凌封, were both of very young age when their father died. Sun Quan 孫權 brought them to the palace and cared for them is if they were his own sons, and he would introduce them to guests as “his tiger cubs.” Once they had reached the age of about 8 or 9, Quan ordered a man named Ge Guang 葛光 teach them how to read, and every ten days they would be instructed on horse riding. Due to Ling Tong’s 淩統 achievements, Ling Lie 凌烈 was made Marquis of Lieting and given command of his father’s troops. Later on, Lie was dismissed due to a crime, and Feng inherited his title and command of the troops.

DW Potential Additions Tier List
So I made some spreadsheets but decided I was putting in too much work so here’s a quick summary.
I was grading on a scale of 1-5. 1 was characters I really don’t htink would add anything good, but who I thought some might suggest (like Cao Zhi, Jia Nanfeng, Pan Zhang, Zhao Guang, Zhang Ren, etc.) 2 is people who could maybe work under very specific circumstances, like a big narrative shift or a lot of related characters being added, or who might be fine but aren’t nearly as good as some other options (like Cheng Yu, Cao Xi, Wu Jing, Mi Zhu, or Gao Gan). These don’t really make the cut for discussion, so if you don’t see a name you’re expecting, I probably put them in one of those tiers for some reason.
Tier 3 are characters who would be fine. Just fine. They either did enough to make themselves noteworthy, or have enough of a connecting to existing narrative and cast that they’d probably add something worthwhile. Not the ones I’d be most excited about, but the ones I couldn’t make too many complaints over.
Tier 4 are great adds. Characters I really want to see, who could really expand the cast in worthwhile ways.
Tier 5 are characters I forget aren’t in these games already because why are they not here?
I’m not going to explain every decision here because I’m sure there will be followup questions. Yes, I’m aware that Jin is overrepresented, because it’s the smallest of the main factions.

DAILY SELECTIONS FROM LAO-TZU’S TAO TE CHING — OCTOBER 17, 2022
