Alive.

At what cost?

Swallowing the lump in her throat, the princess nodded her head. Alive meant that it wasn’t over. Alive meant that there was always a chance. There was still air in her lungs and blood in her veins and she would keep fighting. Sometimes, she caught herself. Wondered what had become of the girl that used to run between trees and bushes, roll through meadows. Now. There was a fighter in its place. Untrained.

She had clawed her way out of trouble, there was no grace, there was blood and nails, rage and desperation.

“I don’t know how to fight.” An admission, but one that was clear, the statement felt superfluous…victory was the only option.

Enemies/Rivals to Lovers recipe

(with the mild version aka Pride and Prejudice and the tragic version aka Romeo and Juliet) Step 1: The main heroes are on the opposite sides of any scale (the grumpy one vs a cheerful one, a kind and stupid one vs a cunning and vile one, a demon vs a god, a master vs a servant, people of enemy states or absolutely different cultures etc.).

A cheerful and funny little bird demon-yao Qing Qing and a grumpy and stone-faced deity of Netherworld Xue Qianxun Step 2: They are forced to communicate with each other without a chance to avoid it (e.g. an arranged marriage, being trapped somewhere together, working as a mole in the enemy camp etc.).

Asura King Xuan Ye plays out damsel in distress to get undercover into Heavenly Realm and his future lover Ran Qing is the one who "rescues" him.

Step 3: One party get impressed by unique character features of other (e.g. the person is the only one who isn't terrified by other's scary reputation, the only one who treats other party well etc.).

Even kings and princes are in absolute terror seeing Gwi - an immortal all-powerful vampire, and only Hye Ryung hates him so much that dares to bicker, scold and deny him. Step 4: One of the parties takes the first step towards another and that melts another`s heart.

Even if Hou Ling Changjin hurt Princess Bao Zhu for her miraculous blood, she still cares for him and doesn`t hold a grudge.

"You are injured!"

Step 5: Here come mutual pining, UST and moral sufferings "what is more important: to fulfil the mission / to be accepted by the society / whatsoever or to love?"

Gong Shangjue doubts if he can indulge himself being gentle with the girl he likes if she is an assassin from the enemy clan.

Shangguan Qian adds Shangjue`s favorite flowers into her tea and thinks about her mission of taking him down.

Step 6: It`s time to confess the feelings.

Leader of a diabolic sect Li Chenlan comes to save his beloved who hated him and tried to kill him and promises her to be her sword and shield. So romantic!

Step 7: The parties try to solve the problem that keeps them apart. If the problem is internal (it has something to do with beliefs and prejudice of a person), here it will be solved and «happily ever after» begins.

Despite of his low social status Hao Du ventures to participate in the competition, wins the right to marry the princess (who he is in love with) and dares to be honest explaining that he did it not only in order to save her from a Barbarian prince but because he truly wants to be with her. Step 8: If the problem is external (there is a large-scale conflict and the parties are just some insignificant participants of it), one of the parties sacrifices themselves to solve the problem.

Before saving the world by the cost of his life Demon God Tantai Jin engraves his name on his own tombstone placed next to his beloved wife's one, so in the future she could mourn him in a suitable place.

Step 9: In a satisfying story there is a magical reward of party's brave deed, which is a happy end.

Demon Lord Dongfang Qingcang sacrificed himself in order to save the girl he loved and died but his girlfriend (who happens to be a Goddess with abilities to resurrect the dead) nurtured a piece of his primordial spirit for 500 years and brought him back to life. Side note: If you want to add some chili pepper into your story, you can break this scheme any step from Step 4 on: pining could be one-sided, UST could never ever be resolved, characters could prefer their goals to love or maybe death or other circumstances would do them apart against their will.

The Wolf and Ma Zhaixing finally got together but the cruel world couldn`t allow it to last anytime long.

TV Recommendation: The Wolf // His Majesty the Wolf

When Ma Zhaixing was younger, her first love was a nameless boy raised by a pack of wolves. Wolfie, as she called him, was kind, sweet, and gentle, but scared of humans. Ma Zhaixing taught him how to speak, how to be around the people of Kuizhou.

But then disaster struck. To protect her beloved Wolfie, Ma Zhaixing pretened to turn on him, and then tried to save him from her deranged half-brother. But Wolfie was simple to the world, not used to the intricacies of human relationships, and so he died believing Ma Zhaixing hated him. Had lied to him. Had set the trap he fell into when he perished on the cliffs of Wolf Mountain after watching his pack be slaughtered.

But no body was ever found, and so Ma Zhaixing isolated herself within Kuizhou for eight long years, turning away any suitor who came after her, desperate to find her Wolfie again.

Instead, her family was slaughtered in the night. Ma Zhaixing is tricked by the evil Emperor into believing a rival nation did it, when really he entrusted the task to his elite spy and assassination unit, the Night Furies.

An order given without the knowledge of the leader of the Night Furies, the Prince of Bo.

To guarantee the loyalty of Ma Zhaixing- and more importantly the massive army her family commanded- the Emperor engages her to the Prince of Bo himself.

This man bears a striking resemblance to Ma Zhaixing’s ill-fated Wolfie, but the similarities are barely even skin deep. The Prince of Bo possesses none of Wolfie’s scars, and is a royal to boot. Not to mention their personalities. Wolfie was gentle, kind, curious, and sweet. The Prince of Bo is hateful, cold, calculating, and cruel.

Eight years ago, when Wolfie fell from the cliffs, bloodied and left for dead by Ma Zhaixing’s brother, he was found by the Emperor’s men. Healed. His scars were carved out of his flesh, and eight years of brutal torture and conditioning turned him into the Prince of Bo.

As Ma Zhaixing brings warmth back into the Prince’s soul, he learns the truth of what happened in Kuizhou so long ago, and falls madly in love with his childhood friend once again.

But nothing can change the fact that it was the Prince of Bo’s own soldiers- men (and a lady) Ma Zhaixing has become friends with- were responsible for her family’s slaughter. The Prince of Bo begins to shove Ma Zhaixing away, turning all of his darkness upon her to make her hate him.

Into this tension steps Ji Chong- a mysterious vagabond with a darkness inside him- one he sees reflected in Ma Zhaixing’s own pain.

Will Ma Zhaixing be able to save her beloved Wolfie from the hatred driven into him by the Emperor? Who is Ji Chong, and what are his true intentions?

When the war begins and the blood spills, will any of them even survive long enough to find the answers?

Awesome! I have more propaganda. This one is for a non-canon ship from an obscure fandom. So I'm posting this mostly for fun and to try to get some others to check out the show. I also have the only fanfic for this ship on ao3. Lol 😆

But the chinese historical drama The Wolf has three main leads: Ji Chong, Ma Zhaixing, and Youwen(Langzai), and I love them all.

It features a lead female (Ma Zhaixing) who is in an arranged marriage with a man (Youwen/Langzai) who she used to be best friends with as a kid (he was raised by the wolves in the forest by her house!?) but is pretending that he ISNT that man and/or that he doesn't remember her because his dad is a bad guy and plot reasons. Then she runs away with the second guy (Ji Chong), who is a wanderer but he turns out to be a prince (for the 'good' king on the other side of the war). And then THEY get married, because it turns out she is a lost princess too??? But she doesn't love him as much as the other guy (despite them being besties and him being SUCH a good guy, and he LOVES her). So eventually, he lets her go so she can be with the other guy, and then they all team up to take down the first guy's evil dad.

BUT the reason I ship them ot3 is cus the 2 guys are friends and get along well. Also, they both acknowledge how much the other cares for her. And, like, one half is long-time loves, and the other half is literally married. So I feel like the obvious answer is to just, both date her, and combine the 2 kingdoms into one. Also, there is one scene where im like: oh, the guys have chemistry, too.

Also Ji Chong is my favorite Xiao Zhan role (yes even more than wei wuxian) and the COSTUMES in the show are so good. They gifs I picked are not good representationz of the absolutely amazing outfits.

OH. the drama. the intrigue. i do wanna check this out now. ive been a little allergic to subbed shows bc of my lack of focus but i wanna make and effort for them this show seems like fun! and they sound lovely :)

Yes absolutely :)

This is Xiao Zhan and Li Qin’s fifth collaboration together. They have previously worked together on “The Wolf” (狼殿下), “Battle Through the Heavens” (斗破苍穹), “Joy of Life” (庆余年), and “Jade Dynasty” (诛仙). But they’ve only had scenes with each other only in “The Wolf” and “Jade Dynasty”. And neither of them was the centre couple.

So this time many are looking forward to them being the primary ML/FL. They actually have an active CP supertopic that's filled with candies that date back years and years ago. Also it helps that they are actually friends irl, have gone for public dinners and Li Qin has been to Xiao Zhan's 'A Dream like a Dream' stage play and in the past they have gone for holidays suggesting they may have a common circle of friends.
